Have you heard the ghost story about a young girl hitchhiking on a lonely road, and when she's picked up, the driver loans her a coat or a jacket? And then she disappears, and he finds the jacket on her headstone or somewhere weird? That's the story that Rose is based on.

This was the book I discovered in the May 2014 Romantic Times Rewind that I most wanted to read, and it was excellent.

This is a picture of HALF of the ballroom at the RT Book Lovers Convention signing. If you've ever been, you can hear this picture. It was loud.

Banners, balloons, anything to try to make it easier to navigate and find the authors you wanted to meet. But wow, it was so fun.

One year, when YA became a Major Thing, RT invited a bunch of massively popular YA authors, including Z Brewer. I met a young person who had come with their mom from HOURS away, solely to meet Z, but couldn't find them.

Being in the Bs was about as good as being in Ws (end of the room, so lots of AC and room to breathe) and it was not difficult to lead them to Z's table.

Where this young person promptly levitated off the ground in shock and excitement and could barely speak two words, when two minutes prior they'd been chatting with me about every single character in every single book Brewer had written so far.

Z signed a piece of swag (they were way, way sold out of books but still there to meet readers because Z @zbrewer is awesome) and I think this young person may have floated all the way to the car.

The thing I miss most about RT is the reader excitement, whether it was young people or not-so-young people like me. Meeting authors and having that moment of being able to say thanks for a book that rocked our worlds was an entirely unique energy, and I miss that part of the conference most of all.

That, and the part afterward where once you walked out of the book signing, you'd find people on every sofa, every chair, tucked into corners and hiding beneath stairs, just everywhere reading the books they just brought. It was like grown up Drop Everything and Read time.
