Sirius would love watching Muggle teleshoppings on TV. He would be especially addicted to all the jewelry, but Remus would block all the phone numbers to those TV channels so Sirius couldn't buy anything.

Hogwarts houses are medieval social casts.

I am convinced that the characteristic for hogwarts houses are based off of medieval social casts. I mean... Slytherin (cunning, ambition): is coded as aristocrats, that were used to using the words and favours to climb the social ladder. Griffindor (chivalry, bravery): should be the knights. Still aristocrats but those who chose to use their physical prowess to gain the favour of those in power. Rawenclaw (knowledge, wisdom): are the scholars, I mean not even all aristocrats were literate, a lot of knights did not know how to read and married wives who are capable enough to manage their households, or had advisors for that. Scholars made themselves necessary for society by gaining knowledge. Hufflepuff (loyalty and good work ethics) : is coded for the peasants. Those were the people who did not have much of an oportunity to climb the social ladder and the traits of loyalty and being hardworking is basically what the social casts above the expecter.

I mean it would explain the mismatched traits for Hufflepuff, why the traits were important for the founders instead of handpicking whatever students they wanted. It would also make sense why it was common for families to be in the same house generation after generation. It also explains the prejudice against Hufflepuff house.

Hogwarts houses weren't based of traits but social standing of the student, it changed much later. Change my mind.

What's going on in every common room

Ravenclaw: Soft classical music; people sitting alone, doing homework or whatever they like, others huddled together in small groups conversing in low voices; flying teapots serving tea; a book club meeting every week

Hufflepuff: Not so very loud dance music, to which some dance and teach each other dance moves; some older students giving advice to first or second years in a corner; everyone has a different hobby, so you can see statues drying in the oven next to baking bread; there are many, many houseplants

Gryffindor: At least one party every day; occasional outbursts of loud music; competitions starting from a dare; karaoke nights with everyone singing along; alcohol sneaked inside in juice bottles; prank battles

Slitherin: A table loaded with magical fashion magazines; they either hate each others guts or make a plan of world domination together; there is a secret terrarium, full of snakes and strange creatures adored by the whole house; making fun of other houses together

there's a fun way to differentiate what hogwarts house you belong to and it's this:

gryffindors would die for you.

slitherins would kill for you.

ravenclaws would figure out a way no one dies.

hufflepuffs would die with you.

it's a strange thing to think about what your life would become when given the choice to live or die for another person.

i'm part hufflepuff part gryffindor and i will admit, as a hufflepuff, in the unlikely event that we are put into a life threatening situation i would most likely die first. but as a gryffindor i would protect you with my life. but as a member of both houses i'd like to add one more:

i would live for you-- with you. every. single. day. i think there is something far more brave than dying: living life, life threatening or mundane.
