My writing feels rather clunky to me lately, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things! Here is a little piece from one of the oneshots I've been working on. If you saw my last "last line game" post, you'll recognize part of it!:

"I can't help you tonight, Astarion." He pulls away, startled. Hurt. Curse that man and those big, sad puppy eyes of his for making you feel guilty. For making you willing to sacrifice yourself at his altar just to see his smile again. But you shouldn't. You can't. You won't. And so you do resist the urge to offer your neck, though you feel you should at least soften the blow. "I'm sorry, it's just… now is not a good time. My supply is already… limited." A beat passes. Then, with a twitch of his nose, confusion becomes understanding. "Ah." Again silence. At least you can breathe easier now. You have a legitimate excuse tonight. You learned during your travels together that you can only handle one kind of blood loss at a time. You could barely function otherwise. He may be disappointed, but he will understand. "Well, I need not bite you to get my fill." His words hit you like an eldritch blast. He cannot possibly be suggesting what you think he is suggesting. Because it sounds like he is suggesting he spend the night with his face buried between your legs. And that sounds an awful lot like sex.

“Excuse me for keeping the passion alive.” Sirius doesn’t let him escape, leaning closer to nibble at his ear.

“What a terrible sacrifice. Please, accept my heartfelt thanks, and let’s pop off. Lily and her brood put us behind schedule, and you know how Reg gets when we’re late.”

“That uptight wanker needs to loosen up.” 

“You tell him that.” 

“I’m gonna.” 

“Ten Galleons says you’re gonna chicken out as usual.” 

Sirius scoffs. “Easy money. I’m not afraid of my brother.”

Last Line Game

Whew, it's been a minute! Thank you to @strixamans and @anacdoce for tagging me for this. I also had @roguishcat, @vividiana, @nw39, @amoremagnificentbastard and @bardic-inspo tag me for various wip day stuff, so I'm counting that here, too! Thank you, everyone! 💖

Writing for me had reached another absolute standstill for a little while there, but now that I'm in my new house I am making time for writing again! Here is a tiny bit of one of my wips:

I'm basic as shit and breathe work, so steel toe boots, jeans, a shemagh for the sun (to much of a cod fan) and a simple tank top or short sleeve.

My 'rizzing' skill if I have any, would be being overly friendly, and a little shit talker. It's also stupid easy to make me laugh. And sharing food I buy, cause it's only manners 😮‍💨

going right up to him and offering him a bite of your onion rings (or etc. bar snack) is just doing the hard work for him. overly friendly? giving him immediate attention? falling right into his lap, more like.

he thinks you're actually maybe just pulling his leg before you hit him with the ol' smile and the "want one?"

he eyes you and then your basket of onion rings.

"or... not?" you peel off a piece of fried breading and eat it yourself for another few seconds to think. "do you come here often?"

"do i come here often," he repeats. his low voice measures and enunciates each syllable just long enough to make you feel warm at the cheeks. "you want to try a better line, or is that the best you got?"

wow. you were half-joking with that cheesy line, but he's not getting anywhere near your best with that attitude. and you tell him so.

"attitude is part of the package deal, love. take it or leave it."

you swing your snack basket away from him. "more for me, then."

"oh, no. anything but the onion rings," he deadpans. "she's stone cold."

before you can react, he swipes one from the basket. he's more dexterous than he looks.

"fine, i'll bite. what other lines you got?"

despite the mask covering his lower face, you swear you catch a smirk from just his dark eyes. you consider trying out another (worse) line on him before you look down at the onion ring still in his hand. "you gonna eat that, or?"

he stares at it for a long moment. then he brings it to his mask--looks you in the eye--and lets the onion ring smush up against the fabric. 

the look in his eye is so absurdly inscrutable, you break out into a crackle of laughter. weird fucking joke from a weird fucking dude.

by the time you recover, he's swallowing the last of the onion ring. you didn't catch so much of a glimpse of his face, though. 

you tell him you're not sure anyone has ever attempted to break the ice like that before (but you also toss in a "no offense" since you're nice). he snorts because making you laugh is enough of a win in his book to deal with the grease stain that'll be sticking to his upper lip for the rest of the night.

invite him over to your place at the end of the night and you'll figure out he's always willing to play things a little unorthodox to keep it interesting for you. plus, you can share food again at breakfast the next morning. ;)

am i crazy or has very little of what bioware has revealed so far been actual "spoilers" and not just very typical game marketing to get people interested in the story... like i get wanting to go in blind of course but then you shouldnt be watching this marketing stuff to start with lol

Some notes from today's new BioWare Blog post, which contained some new character insights and also gave some information on what is coming next and when:

Creative Performance Director Ashley Barlow helped to cast and direct over a thousand conversations in the game

Lucanis is bloodthirsty, calculated, and a workaholic. He was raised with high expectations and fears disappointing those he loves. To him, being an assassin is his only job and identity to be excellent at. He's constantly attuning himself to the kind of shifting terrain of every mission. There's a lot of love between him and Illario

As Zach is a comedian, he would easily find the humor in anything Lucanis was saying

Neve is a Shadow Dragons rebel who cares deeply about helping people and never leaves work half-done. Epler: " [she is] the working class hero trying to make her hometown better"

Emmrich is sincere, friendly, scholarly, sophisticated, eager to teach and learn, a well-meaning but oblivious academic, with a "hot nerdiness". He assumes everyone has an academic's curiosity so can be pedantic on select topics

The Mourn Watch are revered in Nevarra but odd at best and evil at worst outside of it

Nick: "I love the fact that the writers took Emmerich and explored the whole idea of death and the whole idea of necromancing by bringing kindness into it. I really responded to that and got into that and I know it sounds crazy, but it’s to not have this idea that death is vulgar or something to be terrified about, but something to actually engage with on so many levels. I just love the fact that the writers had the courage to do that in a game like this."

The world has changed a lot since DA:I

Harding has been leading teams through the wilderness while covering friends in battle

Harding loves her mom. She loves to write letters home and is always talking about her mother. She likes plants and raising plants. She has grown and is a veteran now, a trusted voice at the table

Next month there will be a new roadmap, more looks at the game, and the reveal of the release date

loved the demo! mc seems fairly interested in grandpa sheo (for obv reasons) and since they just heard mc speak in that void, I could see mc just talking aloud to grandpa’s cloak or the air like the ancient could hear them

Thank you! And that is a rather adorable thought! Well adorable because of MC, not necessarily adorable considering Sheo. Might even end up in the demo as an option...

You settle down for the night, and settle your cloak in front of you. You sit cross legged on your bed and stare at the cloak.

Then start talking. About your day. What you ate. The snacks you had. The things you didn't understand. What you and the twins played today. Odd things Lexia said. Things Havard taught you. What you liked and did not like.

You go through your day, from being woken up by Havard, to the evening being tucked in.

Then you go to bed, feeling better for having told Grandpa about your day.

Somewhere far away, a traveler listens to a child speak about their day. The traveler does not answer, he just listens. He could block out the sound but he has time. Even as he senses the fortress full of cultists and calmly walks towards it, he has time to listen. Even as the gate turns to dust and he calmly walks inside, he can hear the description of a game of hide and seek between children. His face never changes, but he is glad that the child turned thing by cruelty is allowed to be a child again.

Innocence after all is worth protecting. Or so the traveler thinks as cultists burn and scream around him, pleading for mercy that will never come.
