*RANT WARNING*
ok this is going to trigger the fuck out of a lot of people probably but I don't give a single damn because I've been stewing over a stupid comment and I need to rant. I hate when toxic directioners just hop straight onto the hate train with absolutely no hesitation (like the whole Zayn & yolanda situation and the podcast thing with Liam that got him way more hate than anyone deserves) and then as soon as the drama is over and people have calmed their asses the directioners that were hating on a member come back and start staning them again acting all sorry and apologizing. if you guys are going to constantly be switching sides but not sticking up for your "idol" when it actually counts, they don't need you as a fan. cancel culture is toxic as fuck because people make monsters out of someone who just made a mistake, like human beings do. this isn't even the worst part though because what makes me really fucking angry is when the toxic directioners generalize the whole fandom and act like what they did was ok because "all directioners" did it. the comment I saw the other day was on a sad Liam edit with him talking about how the hate affected him and a "directioner" said that we (the fandom) made Liam feel like that. I was like, bitch? who the fuck is "we". just because your fake ass just decided to go along with everyone's toxic and hateful opinions about Liam doesn't mean that all directioners did. I personally have never stopped supporting any member throughout any type of drama and I have never made anything even close to hate comment towards one of the members because unlike you I'm actually a fucking real supporter and a decent human being. plus I saw countless of other directioners sticking up for Liam during the hate situation, so no, the directioners didn't do that to him because the people that hated on him honestly don't even deserve to be called a directioner. don't group us real ones in with you please when you talk about that. sure if you guys are sorry for what you did to him, that's wonderful, but honestly if you truly, truly cared about him, you wouldn't have done it in the first place. and before anyone that still is hating on Liam for some stupid fucking reason says he deserved it, no, he didn't. he made a mistake, said things he didn't mean, partly because the people who he was with knew what they were doing. the other members don't have harsh feelings towards him so why should you? he apologized afterwards to Zayn and some time ago Zayn actually commented on one of Liam's insta posts calling him his brother. Louis also stuck up for Liam during this as well. again, for the people that hated on him and are sorry now, I'm glad your sorry, and I understand that sometimes it's easy to just believe everything people say, but next time you should really try to understand the whole situation and view the person as a human rather than a celebrity before you just start attacking them. this rant is mostly about the Liam situation, but that's because this is my best example but I did see similar things with Zayn after the whole ab*se accusations. if you guys are going to love your idol and hate them the next, I repeat, they don't need you as a fan. also don't generalize an entire fandom so you can make an excuse for your actions.
i know I probably offended a lot of people but at least I'm not stewing in my head anymore lol.
also let's be clear, when I say stop cancel culture, Im not saying to forgive people who do stuff that's actually deserving of criticism such as being racist, ect.

I love when @107bees said "...cancel culture is dumb, people need to make mistakes to grow"
That's the WHOLE thing with being HUMAN
Humans are imperfect, fickle, multifaceted creatures, who are always going to make mistakes and hopefully - if they are given half a chance - they will learn to grow from their mistakes and make better decisions, and then probably make some more mistakes, and then grow some more, etc etc.. but We have to Give People A Chance to make a mistake, see the outcome, learn from it, and grow.
I'm so SICK so being afraid that something I do or say in my early 20s while I'm still honestly dumb af is going to come back and hurt 30-40 something year old me who is trying to do something in the public eye, like publish my first book or something.. and someone pulls up some idiotic thing I did or said once thinking that that culminates who I am as a person years after the fact
I hope cancel culture dies out before I ever manage to do anything worthwhile :( and just forgoodnesssakes forgive people

What if instead of hounding people for their opinions and ideas, thus attacking the fundamental right of freedom of speech, we develop a thicker skin?
And to you, that person so worried about someone's opinion because it apparently harms someone's life, threatens someone's existence, and so on, perhaps instead of attacking freedom of speech you should consider:
Getting someone banned means they'll seek an underground way of finding people with alike opinions, making them feel persecuted, become violent, and blow up in our faces all by surprise. Exhibit A: The Capitol far-right attack.
Learn politics and Greek speech and discourse techniques. Study the power of propaganda, political propaganda Nazi propaganda, philosophy, brainwashing, study the ideological progression of famous politicians depending on the trend of each time, learn about performative activism, and seek to read and understand opinions drastically different from your own.
Consider your elders are not automatically outdated and Conservative and stupid and perhaps bother to learn why they think like they do.
Ask yourself, who is really benefitting and making millions from making me their minions, threatening people online? Who really benefits from cancel culture and the end of freedom of speech and democracy? What positive impact has woke culture really caused?
Learn to accept criticism, criticise yourself and don't get so bloody defensive. Learn to reason, to question everything and to make your own informed opinions.
Once you've learned the important things, vote for the right people, stop buying from people you disagree with and don't like to give money to, and you know, stop doing performative activism and useless cancel culture and make a real difference in the world.

My talk on the TikTok-ification of ‘I have no mouth and i must scream’
I personally have discovered ihnmaims recently and through TikTok but honestly, from what i've seen so far, the Tumblr community is way more welcoming than the TikTok community. I believe the ones i call ‘hardcore fans’ or 'gatekeepers' will try all they can to belittle the people who discovered the book/game through TikTok, like any hardcore fan does for their community when it gets famous on TikTok.
TikTok is very helpful to share media on and i have discovered many fandoms through it. But some people are so against ‘TikTok-ification’ that they can’t stand when people find medias through this platform.
When i see some people (again, mostly solely on TikTok) tell AM fans ‘ermm but you know he SA’d Helen ☝️🤓’ i cant help but think ‘yes ?? And he also committed genocide on humanity, keeps torturing the same 5 people over and over again and im very, VERY sure he did use a lot of not really nice kinds of tortures on them, but you draw the line at SA ??’
Like, AM is a horrible being of course, all of these are horrible actions but if someone, like me, likes AM its not gonna be because they think they’re a good ‘person’ (for lack of a better word), WE KNOW AM is bad, of course we do, HE’S THE BAD GUY OF THE STORY and he’s the kind of bad guy who cannot be redeemed but COME ON, WE KNOW THAT.
I love AM for his writing, for how well thought he is as a character, i do not love him for his actions. And i know some 'new gen fans' will pretend AM is not 'that bad' but you shouldn't just assume every fan who comes from TikTok is going to think like that.
Another thing i’ve seen people hate on are AM’s humanisations/personnifications fanarts when posted on TikTok. I know for a fact that these existed for a long long time on other platforms such as Tumblr but the arguments the haters pull out is that ‘errr AM hates humanity, i doubt he’d want to be human ☝️🤓’ but do you even know WHY he hates humanity ?? Have you read the book ???
The reason AM hates humanity is because he wasn’t able to express the creativity he was given by humans, he didn’t just wake up one day and decided to hate humans ?? If anything, giving AM a more humanized/personified image would be something he would want more than anything. If AM had been able to BE like a human none of the shit he did would have happened.
The only ‘argument’ im willing to listen to is when some people say that the whole point of AM’s character is that he isn’t human. But then again, are you against fun ?? In literally EVERY fandom with non-human characters artists will give them humanized designs, even if just for AU’s (take ‘The stanley parable’ for exemple), it’s not because the story is old and is an horror story that people cannot have fun with it. It’s not because it’s a deep story with meaning that people can’t do what they want with it. That is what creativity is for.
And my final point is addressing the people who hate on AM's simps. My gosh, these people have not seen the dawn of the internet if they think its weird to simp for AM.
People simp for Glados, The Narrator from tsp, horror movies murderers and more, and you're telling me that AM is the worst simping choice you could make ?? Let people have fun, let people have weird taste in fictional crushes. In other words:
Stop being allergic to fun, ffs

bionicle masks of power looks amazing but…
Tumblr media
The demo looks awesome. Everything they have planned is awesome. It’s crazy how it’s just an indie dev team who have permission from Lego as long as they don’t make money off the game.
eventually, when it comes out, the YouTubers will play it and it will get as much attention in media as the average triple A game.
the problem with that is…
when something gets popular…
certain people will find it…
Certain people that mostly reside on twitter…
People who were born near the tail end or after bionicle ended who take pleasure in “canceling” things and people because it makes them feel like heroes…
they are the farthest from heroes you get before you reach criminal territory. /srs
what do you think will happen when they find out about bionicle? They will research bionicle. And, what do you think will happen when they research bionicle? They will find out about early bionicle. And what do you think happens when they look further into early bionicle?
havoc.
chaos.
Barely escapable, ever consuming darkness.
all by the hands of outsiders of the bionicle community who don’t have as deep of an understanding of bionicle as us.
we need to stop this darkness from escaping somehow…
any suggestions?
(I have to say here that I have nothing against people fighting for what’s right, it’s just… some of the people who think they are heroes were actually villains all along.)

Just randomly scrolling through a lighthearted video of a singer then seeing a "I've never seen them say Free Palestine" comment🤦🏾‍♀️
People are starting to make whole lists of celebs who haven't said anything about the w4r and are practically bullying them into saying something!
This is so pathetic and ridiculous, I can't get over it! This "speak up for Palestine or get cancelled" mentality is so fking stu pid!
Stop feigning moral superiority when the same people who chant "free Palestine" under every comment section couldn't care less about the millions of people in Sudan who are starving to d3ath. The gay people in Ghana, Russia and Uganda getting t0rtured and k1lled. The women and girls getting traff1cked by p0rn hub! You're just using this as an excuse to cancel celebs you already didn't like!
STOP PRESSURING PEOPLE TO SPEAK OUT ABOUT SENSITIVE TOPICS THEY'RE NOT EXPERTS ON! These are models, singers, actors, ENTERTAINERS! NOT FKING POLITICIANS!!!!
PALESTINE IS NOT THE ONLY CRISIS HAPPENING IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW!!!!
...Words can't describe how annoying it is to try to unwind and get away from all the politics for one second, tune in to a random feel good video and the comments are spammed with "free Palestine"🙄 pls tell me, what tf is that gonna do!?
Is the meme channel showing cute cat videos the one holding Palestine hostage!?
Now if you want to spread the word on any important issue, you have to use the tag "free Palestine" otherwise it probably won't get seen. Cuz that's the only thing people care about rn. Everyone else that's suffering can just go fk themselves huh?🙄

This is not it. Boycott, use the anger and uneasiness towards pressuring institutions, informing those around you and donating.
Sending hate mail, cancelling and harassing a singer and expecting some apologies from them will do nothing if not make you feel better about yourselves - nothing good for the Palestinians will come out of it

...and the pendulum swings
Liked the wrong tweet, voted for the wrong candidate, praised the wrong movie, had the wrong opinion about Black Lives Matter, had a bad date, wore the wrong Halloween costume, and that was it. If you defended someone who wore “blackface” on Halloween once, you are a convicted racist, and you must apologize profusely or lose your job, sometimes both.
Who gets to stay and who has to go has been the sick little game we’ve all been playing, like we’re trapped in an episode of the Twilight Zone and are one wrong opinion away from being wished into the cornfield.
You, too, can now be humiliated in the public square. You can get your name on a list. You can get fired or not hired. Who would want a little monster like you on their team anyway? Not I, said the fly. Not me, said the bee.
Here we are, stuck with hundreds of thousands of young people graduating our universities who do not understand the difference between terrorism and war. So, who is teaching these kids?
Tumblr media
These students didn’t “make anti-Israel statements.” They blamed Israel for the slaughter, suggesting it was justified. That’s like saying the Columbine or Newtown massacres were justified because the shooters had been bullied.
Or that the Manson murders were justified because Charles Manson had been treated so poorly. Or that the mass murder of children in the daycare center at the Oklahoma City Federal Building was justified because of what our government did to David Koresh.
Would you want someone working for you who said Hitler had a point in his mass genocide against the Jews because the United States did not deliver on its promise to help rebuild Germany after WWI?
Let this moment serve as a reality check and a warning to those naive young students that there is a difference between criticizing Israel, even protesting its war on Gaza, and justifying what Hamas did in Israel. Ignorance is no excuse. If your news is failing you, then find better news. Do the work. Educate yourself, as the kids like to say.
[...]
Welcome to the real world, kids. Remember all those “consequences” you’ve been shrieking about? Well, here they are! Come and get ‘em while they’re piping hot.

To all the haters everywhere about anything and everything - that scream cancel - that scream they should die - that act like they make zero mistakes and curse and dehumanize and vilify those in the limelight when they displease you or make a mistake -
THESE ARE REAL HUMAN BEINGS!!!!!!!
Think before you speak - just because you can does not mean you should - actions have consequences.
Just really...
Stop the madness.

There is no cancel culture. Some of us just want bigots to shut the fuck up and say so. Rightwing pearlclutchers love to dish out insults for everything under the sun, but once someone calls them out they start whining about cancel culture.
Cancel culture is a copout.

there's a point at which someone's fear of being a dick wraps back around to them just being a dick anyways
#im side-eyeing those who reblogged my post on ethnocentrism and missed the point#but im also thinking about the tags i saw on being too scared to comment on fic#the first is being ~too scared~ to write cultures other than their own#(1. my point was people should be learning *as they watch the show* not just when they write#2. i just. jfC. stop saying youre too scared to *try* to write from another culture/POV different from your own as tho its a *good* thing)#the second is just annoying/frustrating because being too scared to participate in community is how community's die#i dont want to be dismissive of cancel culture because i do know the stories and there is always indv cases of a person ready to be a dick#but like. its just *not* a thing most people have to be worried about. very likely you're just not big enough to have that concern.#anxiety's no joke but like. u dont just accept the anxiety as the excuse. you have to challenge it. i've been there but u cant feed it.#and i dont want to sound dismissive of that anxiety but im really frustrated with seeing people throw that excuse around#without considering how their fear-based attitudes/actions come off in turn#such as not showing fandom creatives any appreciation for fear of saying the ~wrong~ thing#which comes off as creatives' stuff seeming to be ignored completely or otherwise very discouraging silence#when the only rule for tags/comments is to treat others the way you wish to be treated and apologize if you accidentally tread a toe#and being more worried about accidentally stepping on a theoretical persons toe than interested in showing actual people gratitude#like? pretty sure im not the only one side-eyeing that like ''have u really considered this feeling/logic????''#again: its not saying that anxiety isnt a dick or easy to dismiss but i am saying maybe challenge it or at least reflect on it#i just#blahh#the commenting thing is way more mild than the other but tags arent for that conversation and i need a much better brain space for that one

i cant wait for the wicked movie to come out bc i want society at large to acknowledge and criticize on mass the story’s queerbaiting. it astounds me every time i see it how egregious it is. the two literally get two entire musical numbers together where they sing about their feelings. the entire show is about their bond. they keep staring into each other’s eyes. holding hands. trying to protect each other. hugging. i love wicked so goddamn much but i know it has caused harm to me thru its mischaracterization of a clearly queer relationship, its heteronormativity, and its erasure of the source material’s queer content. i wanna see it called out in a big way. when i first saw it i was a confused kid who didnt know she liked girls, and i latched onto wicked for reasons i didnt yet know. i deserved better, and now we have a lot of stories that thankfully Do represent these relationships better. i’m glad that wicked’s mistakes will be clear when it’s compared to them.
