and if you’d like more evidence, (with the related anti-capitalist rant about corporatization of hospitals aside/deeply ingrained to this specific evidence) look no farther than corporate creating bullshit titles that Mean Nothing so that they can put an entire job description through nine circles of hell and 6 months of approval before they even post the job for people to apply. Under a guise of ‘We’re doing this for you!’
We are Always Understaffed if you’re staff and Never Hiring bc corporate decides who, when, and why to hire
Bc god forbid u hire a secretary to replace the one who retired and left the other one alone when we should have three. No, of course, Mr.Moneyballsack we should have a singular ‘Lab Coordinator’ instead who can maybe help in the office sometimes but is also going to oversee phlebotomy and micro and cytology and blood bank and the OR schedule and needs to be a certified pathologists assistant just in case. Yeah no our 75 y/o secretary who u have in a chokehold kept from quitting bc of her insurance needs really wants that instead of two normal secretaries. She wants you to sacrifice her wellbeing so that you save so much money. You’ll save so much money. You will. If the Cost is not Money it does not Count.
No no of course if they lose the cytotech upstairs (who they are underpaying w a lab assistant rate, bc the job post ‘said’ lab assistant) u should definitely evaluate if they even need the position at all! You should probably just get rid of that position actually. The supervisor enjoys talking to others too much and that keeps her from being Efficient, which deduces our imaginary profit predictions by 4%. Of course, we’d never say that. Instead we always approve PTO, you guys just don’t finish your work. The reasonable amount of work that we give you. Why aren’t you taking PTO? Someone else can learn your medical job how hard is it? Internally of course. We can NOT hire anybody new right now. Training is so hard :(
No definitely. Boss lady. Hand me, then, your part time lab assistant, the entire secretary training packet to “see how much I can learn” in my 4 hours present per day. That’s 76$. And give me deadlines to learn it by so that I do it in a week or two. That’s 760$. Just in case Secretary burns out again and is absent for a couple days! We wouldn’t want our big partner companies to know that we don’t have backup! That was -504$! Terrible Incident that. Before we ‘trained’ you of course. Should her Discrepancy of the Mind happen again and you are Perfect (required) it will only be -276$. See. Profit. From last time. Less loss. Could look at it as +228? To you? Do you want to work Extra Hours? We will give You. Chosen One. 456$ for the same time and job 🤗. 48 dollar profit 🤫 no benefits! You’re a part time worker. That’s what you signed up for.
I don’t even go down to the lab anymore btw. Bc they will Not hire a full time person to put anywhere unless that person signs up for 3 other embedded jobs at the same time and says workflow with a straight face. After the job description is approved of course.
At Hospital. Brought to you by Corporate. where Profit Saves Lives!!!!
We said saves lives. We said nothing of livelihood. You must not be able to read. Therefore we were unable to proceed with your application at this time. If you don’t hear from us in more than 30 days, assume we have moved on to other candidates that are a better fit for our institution.
Hot Take:
There is no labor shortage. There is no shortage of people who want / are able to work and either possess useful knowledge and skills or are willing to learn them.
What there IS a shortage of is business owners that are willing to spend resources on training, safety, benefits, PTO, proper staffing levels, and fair compensation.

Today my no-longer-support-worker friend Emily came to visit!! It was so nice. We did the same as normal routine with her (even though it is Friday not Wednesday).
Watched some Pirates of the Caribbean with her around lunch time. Then later on played cards with Mum and Emily. Not sister today though because she is at university now!
I love to sit and hear Mum and Emily talking having conversations and feel included and a part of it even if I can't contribute much to a conversation.
She also brought vegan chocolate chip cookies!! I had half one for second snack today, I will have other half at second snack tomorrow. It is so yummy!
Today is a good happy day. Emily always makes me smile and feel better. Even when the day starts bad or I had bad days before it or have a lot of pain. It just gets better with Emily.
Happy Ezra! 😊

Urgh my support worker cancelled my visit today 😫 I see her once every 2 weeks and that’s mainly the only time I get to go shopping for myself and be able to casually browse in shops now since my only friend in my city moved away and I don’t have anyone else to get out with much 💔 I was up early and ready only for a cancellation phone call….now I feel so out of sorts

I am absolutely devastated by this news. Bandcamp's former workers and indie musicians will all be negatively impacted by this. I hope a new platform arises from this, but until then, many people's sources of income will be in limbo. My page focuses on goth music, but I hope that indie musicians and music fans of all genres come together during this time.

Text of the image reads: “I was under a 7 year contract with FX in what they call “first position”. As a series regular, I could not work anywhere else without getting network approval. While working on AHS season 10 I was told I would be returning to Season 11 and was put on hold for several months. During this time Marvel called a few times asking about my availability. By the time FX released me, Marvel stopped calling. Now it’s been years since I have had an acting job. This is also why we are striking. #UnionStrong #SAGAFTRAstrike”
I used to work with Angelica. Her experience is sadly common. Support the writers, support sag-aftra, and please donate to strike funds if you can.

Thoughts on what general audiences can do for the WGA and SAG strikes
I've read up a lot on the strike situation these past weeks because I'm someone who consumes A LOT OF media content. The strike will affect my daily life and I'm a curious girlie when it comes to show biz rules. So here are some of the takeaways I wanna share with my fellow audience:
1. Understand the strike
The strike is happening for 2 major reasons:
1.) The studios are refusing to pay the creators/actors residuals on streaming services.
This makes it hard for the majority of writers and actors to make a living by doing their respective jobs. They used to rely on residuals from old projects (DVD and blue-ray sales, renting, etc.) to pay bills. That's just not happening today.
To try to get out of paying residuals, the major studios started this trend this year to take old and new shows/movies off their streaming platforms and use them as an excuse for a tax write-off. Disney did this last month and got a 1.1 billion tax write-off. They can currently do that without consulting the people involved AT ALL, taking away their livelihood without warning.
2.) The studios want to retain the rights to use AI writing and performing.
In the negotiation with SAG, they proposed a plan to pay actors only one day's wage to use their AI image FOREVER without paying them ever again. And the actors wouldn't have a ground to argue that. This is straight out of Black Mirror Season 6 Joan is Awful. Netflix is really writing its own villain origin story right now.
So what would happen if the workers budge and give up mid-way?
They'll end up losing their means to survive and have their images stolen. So striking for a few months is definitely better than starving indefinitely.
What's happening right now?
Right now, no projects fiananced by AMTPT companies can film with SAG members or develop with WGA members, which means only a very small percentage of all Hollywood productions can still happen. (More to come about this.)
With finished projects, if they're being released in the next few months, they're going to be released without any promo from the actors. They can't take part in interviews, premieres, fan events, or even post about their projects on social media.
2. Help with the strike.
Now that the double strike has officially happened, what's the best outcome for the workers and the audiences?
If you're just a casual entertainment enjoyer:
Cancel the streaming services not essential to you. The studios are going to panic more when they start losing even more money.
If you're a fan of a fanchise/upcoming blockbuster:
Flood the companies behind it, demanding them negotiate with the SAG and WGA on their own and agree to a fair deal. Threat not to support the projects unless it's settled fairly.
These studios with upcoming big-budget movies are bleeding money and panicking right now, any added pressure is good.
If one company buckles, the others would follow suit.
If you have money to spare: (Congrats on being rich, btw!)
Donate to the unions and support the ones with lower income in the first place, they'd be struggling with bills if the strike goes on for too long.
For everyone:
Call out big studios who are still planning on filming projects during the strike.
Please note there are exceptions to the strike rule:
1.) Foreign productions.
Please note an actor has to be part of the foreign union to work on these. Some of the foreign unions are still in meetings to decide if they'll allow US companies to work with their members, the most notable ones being the UK one and the Canadian one. Fingers crossed they don't fall for the deals the US studios are offering.
2.) Indie productions.
Indie companies can make their own deals with the workers since they're not included in the overall deal. So a very small amount of US projects can still happen. Make sure a project doesn't fall into this category before calling them out for scabbing.
That's about it for now. I might add more later in the replies if I think of anything.

Ok guys I know I am a bit out of the tumbr demographic but I can’t put this on my regular blog or YouTube without it costing me subscribers but just saw a Facebook post from a local disability “ advocate” and  let me say she is an amazing advocate but I need to point out that what she was saying when I discussed it with care staff in my housing facility they had the same take. It was a post around how school is inherently ableist and I get that yes, it is but from what I understand these kids have no disabilities its mum with the disability and that mum expects the children to get accommodations, she was also saying that bad grades damage self-esteem,
I get that some of us hated school and yes getting bad grades sucked and even as an adult I prefer self-directed learning, but that is the point of main stream school and the point of grades, I need to say just because you think something is ablest doesn’t mean it is sometimes it there for a reason, maybe you children need tutoring or screening for learning or other hidden disabilities it’s called being a parent.
Why is this so hard for people to get that not everything is ableist when we are asking for the basics of accountability?
So an update, she was saying basically asking why he children where getting bad grades in school without questioning the kids and did they need tutoring, and the kids don't have hidden disabilities, mum is just expecting them magically to get good grades when it seems that they aren't putting in the work to get the good grades. Essentially she is calling ablism and I am saying just because your calling something ableist, doesn't mean it is, school isn't ableist we have accommodations, we have ramps, we have adjusted program's, what I am saying is be a parent and find if the kids need tutoring, or screening for learning disabilities.

I had a very good day today.
My support worker came to the house for the first time! It is my first time meeting her in person. Her name is Emily and she is lovely. (She also has very cool hair).
She was here from about 11am - 5pm. I got to take my time and take breaks to swing and rest and be alone. Emily, Mum and I had a chat in my room before lunch. I used my AAC and Mum helped me tell Emily things about myself. Communication is much easier with Mum there - I was a bit worried about getting stuck or having a shutdown and not able to cope with a Person there at all. But I did well, I think!
Then I had lunch and a break for swing and Grey's Anatomy. I was quite anxious in my body - tense, sweaty, a bit shaky. Even if I logically know that everything is fine, my body has an instinctive reaction as if I am in danger and not safe, every time there is a Person there in the house (usually this doesn't include parents or sister, because I am used to them living in the same house. But on some days it is absolutely everyone, no matter who). New People are especially hard.
It is also rather hot weather today (18°C!) so that threw me off sensory-wise. I had to take more time to regulate.
In the afternoon I decided to be very brave and play a card game with Mum and Emily. We did three rounds of blackjack. It was a lot of fun! We each won one game. I was still a bit tense, but I was also very proud that I did so well.
I really like my new support worker and I am happy and proud and relieved that today went so well. I finished off the positive streak with listening to Martin Fröst (legendary Swedish clarinettist) play Brahms and Mozart while in my swing.
Wednesday will be my day with Emily from now on. I am really hopeful that this can help me learn to be less scared and anxious around people. Or at least widen the group of people who my brain recognises as "safe". And it is just lovely to spend time with someone and laugh and smile. And get to tell someone new about my interests!
I also have been texting with my best friend in the past week. That is very nice. They are also friends with my sister and quite often pop round our house to hang out, although not with me (because, y'know, Very Disabled - I am sure I don't need to give the full explanation here!). I hope to work towards being able to be physically in the same room with them and hang out, eventually.
It is different with someone I already know, who knows me for years back. There is different mental blocks and barriers and obstacles for both New People and People Who Know Me. It will be a slow process, with lots of teeny tiny baby steps. But I have to start somewhere! So, next time they come round, if my bedroom door is already open, they will pop their head in and wave. That's it. Just wave.
I hope to write more in detail about my "brain barriers" (just what I call it because I don't have any other words) in general, especially relating to Other People. It is a tough topic, and very hard to find words. I have been trying hard for over a year to write anything about this, but the progress is incredibly incremental.
Anyway, now I will need a lot of rest, I am knackered! My body is still in a heightened state of anxiety from a new situation and New Person and how much stimming I had to do to regulate. Usually in the evening I can finally calm down my body - things get quieter and darker and colder and it is all much better. It takes more time to calm down physically than mentally sometimes.
But it is all so very worth it. And Mum is happy too :D
Time to relax, rest my body, and turn my brain off! AKA: Time to watch even more Grey's Anatomy!

I did an off-topic video this week!
There has been some speculation going around about what exactly has been going on with Bandcamp and the union that the workers are a part of, Bandcamp United, over the past few months. I just thought I would summarize it to the best of my abilities.
The links to follow BandcampUnited and support the healthcare fund are in the video description.

I'm sorry for all the authors with book launches in August who might wind up not having their books in stores because of the UPS strike and I'm sorry for me, a bookstore owner, who is rapidly losing my mind this week trying to gameplan for the potential strike with a PACKED month of events but mostly I'm sorry for the UPS workers who deserve fucking AIR CONDITIONING in their goddamn dark brown trucks.
