Mabel : mabel is a podcast about a woman named anna who is a home care provider for an old woman and tries to get in contact with the woman's grand daughter by leaving her voicemails. the show describes itself as being about ghosts, family secrets, strange houses and missed connections. its been going on for a few years so its got a healthy backlog. its very poetic.

The Deca Tapes: not technically one man but its one person per episode, the deca tapes are about several people with no recollection of who they are or how they got their carrying out provided tasks on a space ship. every episode is interupted by a news broadcast that somehow relates to the person narrating that episode. amongus jokes aside, there is a murder and they all handle it so incredibly poorly, but thats what we want in a horror podcast right? eight episodes, short and mean.

Modes Of Thought In Anterran Literature: okay, you're in college and you need to take a history class for your actual major. you find on that works for your schedule, the teacher is decent so sure why not. you show up to the lecture and slowly realize that this guy is lecturing with an absolute authority on a place that does not exist. modes of thought in anterran literature is basically a series of recorded lectures about a place that does not(?) exist but the guy lecturing is incredibly instant that it does. technically three season i think but the episodes are pretty short.

Do you recommend reading homestuck? I really like your analysis and takes so I was curious when you talk about homestuck and want to know if I should read it and when to stop. I’m aware that it has its own unsavory elements but I was curious on your opinion

honestly yeah despite everything i honestly do. just don't read the epilogues or homestuck^2, they felt like a spit in the face to me. what i loved about the comic properly ends at ACT 7.

i think it's a marvel in world construction and scale, has very intriguing elements, and has excellent consistency in character voices and characterization. and i think about what hussie, as much of a dick as he is, once said back in homestuck's early years regarding this all the time because i think it's some the best character writing advice i've heard in my life; this is how i manage to think about it as well.

i think writing in voice is pretty simple. its mostly about consistency. choosing a set of parameters and committing to them absolutely. it can even be a shitty set of parameters and a crappy character. but if you keep hammering away at that voice, people will say, damn thats some pretty good characterization there! i mean… they might be WRONG. but theyll SAY it. the advantage in being so obstinate with the profile you choose is then any deviation you make will be very noticeable. this is to your advantage, if you can control these deviations with purpose and precision. such deviations can serve as the pillars for character development. they cant happen without the consistency first. and ironically, without the consistency, they DO happen. for the wrong reasons. because you fucked up. syntax is not a typical part of voice in most works but its one ive latched onto aggressively in HS and perhaps solidifies the illusion of strong voice. in fact ive become so conscious of syntax-voice, i noticed for some reason when answering these questions ive gravitated towards an ad hoc syntax, no caps, no apostrophes, otherwise punctuated. i am fearful of deviating from it. because it will mess with your heads if i do. and mine. See, look. Instant syntax upgrade. It’s hard to believe this is even the same person talking! Inconsistency can be one of great calling cards of utter trash. Glorious inconsistency, artful inconsistency even, I think is something to behold. It’s like a window into a defective mind. These are principles I employ in SBaHJ. They interest me for some reason. Will this sentence end with a period? No, looks like it won’t. But this one will. Why was that particular word misspelled? Why not just misspell every word? That would make no statement. It would invite no speculation into a uniquely defective thought process.

I have so many!!! I definitely can't name every single one but heres a few that have been extremely influential to me!! This took me 2 hours to write i am SO sorry lmao

Puyo Puyo (Specifially Fever, Quest, and Tetris)

CUTESY BRIGHT BRIGHT COLORS!!!!!! Thats everything I love!!!!!! I'm pretty sure I talked about this when I first got into puyo puyo but I for SURE instantly decided that yep Im steering my style in this direction sorryyyyyy!!! I just think its so fun and silly and cute and rahhh it makes me so happy.

Especially for the work I do most often, which is character portraits without backgrounds, I will often look at puyo puyo posing just to get ideas!! (I've drawn Arle's dumbfounded pose 100000000 times becus I love it so much). The puyo puyo anatomy has very noodly arms and legs but with big ass shoes and accessories which is probably my favorite design thing in the world....

I seriously recommend just looking through the Puyo Puyo Nexus wiki for pose ideas (if you want something cute/silly of course) because every single one is just perfect. I am trying to get out of some dumb art habits of my own right now, but hopefully in the future you'll be able to see more goofy poses with sillier effects :3

Muse Dash Again I want you to look at the COLORS. Its so bright and this time you can really tell where I took my shading style from. I dont want my shadows to be dark I want them to be PINK or PURPLE. thank you. For my own art, I really try to make it so the darkest "black" is actually a deep purple or blue, and as I keep making art that dark color keeps getting just a bit lighter haha...

This is also the reason I color my lineart the way I do. I just really want to add as many colors as possible into the image. And if the image looks a bit more pink after that then thats just an extra perk!!

I also need to bring up the animation because they're just so bouncy and alive!!! This is like an instant stunlock for me, I have to look at them, theyre so BOUNCYYY!!!!!! I don't do much animation but every other week I get the sudden urge to try tweening again just to eventually get to the point I can make something similar to these for my own ocs lol

Great Pretender This show has some of the most gorgeous art ive ever seen. All the backgrounds are so bright and colorful. I dont usually draw art with backgrounds anymore sadly, but when I used to I really tried to study these for them. And I hope in the future I can make more art and show how far I've come.

Though I;ve changed to a more chibi style in recent times (thanks puyo puyo), this was still one of the first times I had ever watched a show and said "Oh my god I love this artstyle I need to get better at art" and Its always in my mind for that reason.

Ive definitely stolen lots of elements from the style. Though they've gotten more subtle over the years. I dont really know how to describe it any further but I hope you understand what I mean by looking at these screenshots,,,

Personal difficulty using(0 being the most easy, 10 being impossible): 1-2

How easy to add your parts: 2 (it can be buggy with the choosing colors)

How easy to switch between parts: 0-1

Personal avoidance level: 2-3(its so easy to use, its confronting af to see parts just talking like that >>;)

Some examples of how I’ve used it so far:

I’ve sorted out different sessions to be used as groupings for parts to safely talk. ‘The Cottage’ is the main chat for all parts to engage in. The ‘playroom’ is for little ones + supporting protector parts. Bunnies and Flowers are for sunsystems, ect.

As you can see, the different colors on the bottom can be easily named and switched between. Its as easy as choosing a color for the text to be posted as, really.

Initial thoughts: its so easy and shameless to use. The app was clearly made for IFS in mind, and as such comes pre-loaded with a bunch of emotions as personas. (Like talking directly to your shame, hatred, love, ect ect)

Its extremely basic so I consider it versatile, especially for people who might have less defined parts or maybe find it confronting to even address their parts by name.

Theres none of the complicated fuss you get with discord bots(if you have to type and program something in, i consider it inaccessible to me). Theres no data sharing or complicated interface like Simply Plural(i hate that app). Antar is literally like, what color you like right now? Thats your chat bubble now

Pros:

-extremely simple

-non-confronting because anyone with parts of self can use it, dissociated or not.

-you can have several chatrooms

-the interface is simple and non-distracting or hard to find your way around

-doesnt need internet!

- theres a cute little vent room!! The bg is animated and it really looks like your words are swept away in the wind. Looks like this:

Cons:

- The creator seems to list more features than it has? Or lists them on a way that it looks that way

- Setting ‘personas’ can be a little finicky. I had the worst time trying to get the right colors to set = =; I haven’t tried using images

- theres not really any in-app settings to change

-it can be very easy to accidentally delete sessions/chat rooms so be careful!

-i havent found a way to delete the default personas(all the emotions and whatnot)

-just generally a bit buggy? I hope the person works on it more.

Would I recommend this app to someone with OSDDID? Yes! Super easy if you’re looking for a digital way to have internal meetings and discussions. You could probably easily show it to a therapist too, now that I think about it.

OF COURSE

so, kyle's origin is the most interesting and compelling to me, but in order to fully understand his start, we need a bit of context.

Hal Jordan. ya know him ya love him or maybe you cant stand his ass. he'd been The Green Lantern for decades!! but suddenly its the 80s. and he's exhausted. he's worn down and tired. and the 80's are like a minefield for him as he tries to find what he wants to do with his life. feeling lost and beaten down (both metaphorically and literally). then theres a reign of the supermen crossover thing where Mongul destroys the entirety of Coast City

7 million people dead in an instant, a lot of which were Hal's friends, family and neighbors. He grew up there and suddenly it's all gone and it's just a crater left. It breaks that final thread for him and he creates a massive construct of the city. The Guardians (the corps bosses) HATE this because rings aren't supposed to be used for personal reasons, so they revoke his ring.

Hal gets pissed and runs back to Oa in an attempt to argue with them... and it turns deadly. VERY deadly. Out of the 3000-4000 lanterns, only a handful survive Hal's rampage. He kills every Guardian except one (Ganthet), and absorbs the power from the central battery.

Anyways, long story short, Kyle is literally at the club and walks outside to get some fresh air and Ganthet goes "you'll have to do i guess" and gives him it. LMAO yeah that's his origin story. 100% CHANCE AND LUCK. it's fucking awesome. because it's completely different from all the other lanterns, who are chosen specifically by the guardians and the rings. like John and Guy for example. Guy was the second choice for Hal, but happened to be further away when Abin Sur (Hal's predecessor) died. John was then Hal's replacement. (I haven't read a whole lot about them since i'm working my way through some other runs, but thats the gist of it!)

Kyle, on the other hand, was completely alone, untrained, and also caught up in the middle of a cosmic massacre. It's really fun watching him figure things out and the ups and downs of his life. to me, being a 20-something year old art major too, his story resonates extremely deeply with me. Ron Marz has some AMAZING writing too. Highly recommend reading Green Lantern 1990 (kyle's run starts at around #50). It's super fun and engaging and we get to see Parallax (Hal) vs Kyle and how sometimes violence really genuinely isn't the answer, and sometimes people just need a friend to talk to. it's so freaking awesome

end of s4 spoilers hale fic hiiii

when jacob hale looks up, he sees the sky.

it's a brilliant shade of blue. higher up than any ceiling, crisscrossed by wires here and there between buildings. puffs of white, clouds, float lazily across. it makes him dizzy to look at. he sits down heavily on the concrete before he falls.

concrete, there's another new one. well, technically not new, he thinks, but.... no, new, it can be new. as far as he's concerned he's never ever seen it before. he's seen tile and linoleum and sometimes carpet and metal and the rough, chalky surface of typhon itself, but not sidewalk. it's harsh and scratches his hands.

wind. birdsong. he's behind a building, alone save for a few full garbage bins (aerolith standard, familiar) but he can hear the chatter of people walking around, probably doing a great deal better getting out of their pods than he. the rattle rattle rushing-by of people with stretchers for those who have done worse.

uncontrollably, he starts to cry. the sky blurs. he curls up, buries his face in his knees. the fabric of his pants is familiar against his cheek. he cries even more.

he half-expects (hopes?) any second now to hear a whirr from inside his head, and for the tears to stop like a faucet turned off- do not waste fluids, a lecture on the dangers of dehydration. it doesn't happen, of course. he keeps crying. he can't stop it alone.

eventually- he has no idea how long- there is a sound, a chime in his head. general notice. it is sunset, speaker informs everyone. hale lets the broadcast wash over him. your schedule will be delivered individually. you should be wherever you're supposed to be when the sun goes down.

and then, softer, just to him- i recommend watching.

so he looks, of course.

it isn't the quick dimming of lights he's used to. slowly, the sky begins to change. it's almost too subtle to notice it until suddenly there it is, the sky lit up in pinks and oranges. more colors he's never seen before. it's breathtaking. (every breath he does take smells of something new.) he wants to look away, hide his face in his hands, but it has been recommended that he watch this. so he looks. of course.

when it is finally all dark-

well, what did you think of your first sunset?

there is even more of a smile than usual in speaker's voice.

"i-" hale coughs, unused to speaking. his throat is dry. he tries again. it waits for him.

"it's beautiful," he says, more because he thinks it's what speaker wants to hear than anything else. it's objectively true, though. it is beautiful. he just doesn't know what to think about it.

his stomach twists.

you must be hungry, speaker says, but he really doesn't want to eat right now. well, speaker has all the data. perhaps he is hungry.

i would have you report to the cafeteria, but... in this case, i think your current location is an advantage. you will want to stay inconspicuous, and there is very low traffic to this area until the garbage gets removed tomorrow morning. I'll have something brought out to you.

he sits. he thinks about food. fine, maybe he's hungry. after a few minutes a small construct (is that what he looked like?) rolls out to him bearing a container and a large bottle, before sweeping up some loose dirt and litter and rolling away.

I gave you more than your usual hydration portion to account for the lost fluids, speaker explains. the practicality grounds him. he starts out with a sip of whatever it is- the same electrolyte solution as he's used to. emboldened, he opens the container. vegetables, thats something he knows. instant mashed potato. the protein source is unfamiliar, but the smell makes his mouth water. speaker is thrilled about it, so he's fortunately saved from having to ask.

aerolith dynamics is proud to inform you that that is grilled salmon you've got on your plate! So recently brought back from extinction, and immediately jumped to the top three in favorite protein source surveys among our earth division. go on, have a bite.

he bites. chews slowly, swallows. it's not bad. he couldn't say what's in it. salt, perhaps.... lemon?

you don't get that on typhon, do you! speaker sounds smug.

"I've had fish," he says automatically. he doesn't like the dig at typhon's food. he can't explain why. he just doesn't. he takes another bite so speaker won't ask him about it and he doesn't have to admit that the lab-synthezised "tuna fish" sandwich he and some other brave souls tried out at lunch for a week before it was recalled didn't resemble this whatsoever. and that this probably tastes, objectively, way better. his stomach churns. he feels sick. you dont simply skip a meal at aerolith and waste valuable food, and throw off your nutrition plan. he forces a bite of mashed potato into his mouth.

your brain needs proper nutrition to run. as he eats and drinks he can start to see the shape of what bothers him, and it's so stupid. it's embarassing. he can't tell speaker, can't risk insulting it, but he can think the words at least. speaker is in his head but not, you know, in his head.

he's earthstained.

literally- as in, the gravel in his boots and the dirt on the back of his pants. but also, it has only been a few hours and already he has looked up at the sky. he has seen his first sunset, and tomorrow he will probably see his first sunrise. he knows how dark the night gets, the sounds of birds. every breath he takes smells of earth.

when things go back to normal, he-

they won't. not his normal, anyway. he's going to be "set free".

but- he cant help but imagine going back to the only life he knows- if he did ever go back. he would be like all the others, another resident who sighs and says they miss clouds, they miss birds, that they miss the way the air smells after it rains, the air smells so sterile here. someone would say they miss being able to watch the sunset and he would agree. and he would miss the sunset too.

he- sven-he, not hale-he- had been asked for feedback, that time with the tuna sandwich. he'd been the first to take a bite, and he'd said "it's good", earning various doubtful looks from everyone else (and one the nutrition technician will be delighted to hear that, thank you for your feedback.) the person sitting across from him took a bite next. they chewed it thoughtfully, swallowed, and said "it's not bad, but it's not the real thing."

he forces into his mouth another bite of the real thing.

Any recommendations on good Polaroid cameras? i have an instax mini 9 and its pretty shit IMO, the colours bearly show, im not sure if thats because im doing something wrong though? but i saw you said you dislike instax cameras so im curious if you could suggest any better ones! (luckily i got it for free and it works, just feel like im doing something wrong with it)

I HATE INSTAX CAMERAS!!!!!! you’re totally right with the weird faded colors, it’s an issue i’ve noticed frequently with instax film! i don’t think you’re doing anything wrong, but rather that it’s just an issue with the brand.

In terms of other instant film camera recommendations, I have a couple!

1.) Polaroid Onestep SX-70

An instant classic!! I have one of these cameras, and it’s 100% my favorite of my collection. Polaroid still produces film for these, and so they’re not too much of a hassle to find film- which is an issue with most other old instant film cameras. (cough cough, kodak colorburst. don’t buy those)

if you find one with a flash bar, you’re golden! but even if you don’t have a flashbar (like me!) you can still take gorgeous photos outside ^^!! i wish i knew where my photo album was right now. my rooms a mess post graduating, so i can’t find it :’D!! but basically, 10/10. could only be better if the polaroid film quality was as good as it was in the 80s haha

2. Kodak instant-printer camera

this camera works similarly to a digital camera, allowing you to review your photo before you print , so you never have to waste any of your film! i’ve had this one for a few years, and it’s a lot of fun. my model actually prints like a printer, and moves in and out of the camera to print the ink colors one at a time before it pops out. it’s kind of entertaining i can’t lie…

one of their models even utilized the classic square film we all know and love! 9/10, simply because i have a hard time finding film even if it’s still being produced.

3. Polaroid Now i-type

god i want one of these so bad it’s not even funny. although on the pricier side, these cameras take old polaroid technology, using the same film cartridges as the Polaroid-600, and have a built in flash as well as a modern build that will (hopefully) work for years n years to come. I haven’t gotten to try one yet, but it looks promising from what i’ve seen!

especially for checking it out despite not having seen hxh !! i think this is one of my easier chrollo fics to understand if you haven't seen/read it. there's some hxh jargon toward the end but i intentionally wanted it to feel like a 'normal' experience for a majority of the story.

if you're ever looking for a new show to get into, i cannot recommend hxh enough!!!! it's well worth the investment. i'd pay someone to zap my brain so i could experience it for the first time again. god. so good. chrollo doesn't pop up until episode 41 but you see his silhouette in episode 4. it's worth the wait . watching him pop up for the first time is an instant dopamine boost.

Those words had been the start of a night to remember. Specifically because of the way Riza was handily beating Roy in a simple betting card game.

“You’re simply awful at cards, sir”

“I am not,” Roy said, eyebrows furrowed as he analyzed his fan of cards, “you just happen to be incredible at cards, Lieutenant.”

It was late, the only light in the room was the standing lamp they had moved from the corner to provide vision for their game. The new moon outside hadn’t helped their lighting situation either, but Hawkeye appreciated the stars that dazzled the night sky in the moon's absence. 

Riza had bet well, playing intentionally and taking all of Mustang’s cards. Roy bet wildly. He often relied on luck when it came to games, and according to the other members of their team that luck was normally in his favor; Havoc was one to complain about lost wages after a night of drinking and poker. But Riza knew Mustang, and she also knew that sometimes his ego needed to be checked. Unfortunately for him, that responsibility usually fell in her capable hands. It was her responsibility to pull that luck out from under him, force him to face reality every once in a while.

“It's not very fair,” the Colonel finished his last thought absentmindedly. He finally laid down a card and Riza sighed, gathering the cards into her growing pile. Roy let out a frustrated growl.

“Just know, I surrendered that card willingly,” his finger pointed an irritated finger at the now hidden card, and then at the center of her face.

She smiled, amused, “Do you plan to get it back later?”

“Of course.”

“And how do you plan to do that?” one of her eyebrows was raised in a questioning gesture. His eyebrows grew closer, irritated at her teasing remarks, and Riza let out a little bubble of laughter.

How did they even get here? Sitting among scattered cards on the rough worn floor of an inn in Eastern Amestris, teasing each other like they were teenagers again.

This patch I started to tank as BLU mage. I realize this is the most difficult role to fill at pf and see so many complains about BLU doesnt being a "real tank" -which is true but a lot of BLU mages aren't doing the tanking well. So here are my spells and advices for BLU mage tanking.

Disclaimer: English isn't my first language so...

For grabbing and holding aggro

#27 The Look. Amazing, it's AoE for taking aggro. But you must be aware that if the mobs move, they be outside the aoe when you finish the cast and wont ger aggroed. This happens very often because other BLU entered in their radio before you finish the cast. Thats why I recommend j Kick or Supernakha to catch their attention and then the look.

#31 Sticky tongue: draw-in spell which increased aggro. Useful for one lost enemy in the pull. But be aware of the radius of the spell.

#97 Hydro Pull: draw-in AoE spell. Be aware of the radius.

#62 Frog Legs: The BLU's provoke. Use it to reasure your aggro.

#61 Avail: The BLU's Shirk.

Advice on aggro and tankbusters:

Very important for all the party!!! some tankbusters are based on aggro (fine, you can hold it by reassuring while to while with Frog legs) BUT others are based on roles and you all are dps classes so these will be random. All BLU should have #29 Diamonback for these.

For mitigation

#77 Aetheric Mimicry /Tank) & #30 Mighty Guard. They're basic.

#32 Toad Oil: 20% more evasion. Use it in cooldown.

#29 Diamonback: Blocks 90% of the damage and nulify the knockback and drawin effects. Think about it as your invul. You cant move for 10s. With good timing you can survive to more than one mechanic with this. It's expensive in MP but has little recast time and will help your healers so much! Don't fear to use it for hard tankbusters.

#95 Dragon Force: 40% mit.

#89 Chelonian Gate: 20% mit with a relative fast recast, it reflect dmg when you take >30% of your HP. Very useful! You can mover but shouldnt since It will end the effect.

#75 Devour: Increases your HP in 20%

#107 Schiltron, #49 Veil of the Whorl or #16 Ice Spikes: These counter some dmg you take. Ice Spikes is the weakest of these, pick the one you like most.

#117 Force Field: It grants 50% physical mit OR 50% magic mit but you cant choose which one so I don't really like it. I feel you can rotate dragon force, chelonian gate, and diamondback safely and drop this.

Advices on mit:

This is important!!! Even with the tank stance and Mighty guard your HP will be the HP of a dps class so you won't have a "real tank" HP pool. You NEED to mitigate, specially the tankbusters. Plus BLU healers doesn't have the big toolset that a "real healer" has, and the res spells has a very long recast so you need to help your party by taking less damage and not dying.

Be careful because your "real tank" mits are instant and the BLU mits must be casted. You'll taking a race on which castbar ends before: your mit or the tankbusters one. So your reaction must be on time!

For Utility and support

#28 Bad Breath: Very usefull for debuff enemies, even the bosses usually take some of the debuffs.

#70 Cactguard: 15% mit for other party member. Useful if you're offtanking, you put it on the MT. Or if you're MT you can put it on healer in danger situations.

#13 White Wind , #73 Exuviation or #108 Rehydration : pick one or two healing spell for backup for your party. Exuviation is aoe and removes debuffs from your friends.

#72 Angel Whisper: Always usefull!! The res spell. Since it has a veeeeeery long recast time it's prefered to all BLUs to have it.

#57 Eerie Soundwave: remove buffs of the enemy.

For Damage:

#104 Nightbloom or #9 Song of Torment: DoT, always useful.

#105 Goblin Punch: instaspell for basic dmg spam spell. Must be in melee range. It's single target.

#63 Sonic Boom: the basic dmg spam speel. Useful when you're away of the boss. It's single target.

#80 J Kick: Gap-closer, useful for start a pull.

#97 Hydro Pull: Pulls enemies to you, usefull for dungeon pulls. Aoe.

#31 Sticky Tongue: Pull in one enemy to you. It stuns also and increases aggro.

#78 Supernakha: Usefull primal spell, and useful for starting a pull at dungeons.

#75 Devour: It restores some HP.

#33 Ram's Voice & #92 Ultravibration: Always usefull for dungeons.

#109 Breath of Magic and #121 Mortal Flame: BIG DoTs but only one of each can be active so only one BLU must cast them. I like it to be the tank or healers so the dps has more room for other big dmg spells.

Hope some of this would be useful to you if you want to try the BLU tanking. Once you get used to the different way of aggroing at dung pulls and to casting the mits it gets very fun and challenging!

I keep seeing the girl who asks why they added Art to STEM (making STEAM) and everyone replying to her is talking about design and aesthetics, and thats a valid point, but i think the better answer is that art involves so much science engineering and math that you can't seperate it.

I'm a performing arts student and do you know how many of my theatre professors have recommended we take physics classes? More than one. Do you know how many theatre majors are also doing Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology. Alot. Because understanding society, culture, emotion, and how all three interact with each other is like 3 quarters of what theatre is. And the other quarter is engineering, math, and various other sciences.

Dance majors know more about sports medicine than the fucking pre-med students becuase they are constantly doing things that are just barely physically possible for the human body and if they get injured in a way they can't treat they could fail a class or lose their job.

Music is basically all math. Math and the physics of sound.

A visual art student on any given day could be learning and applying chemistry, geometry, and anatomy. Probably all at the same time.

It's gotten to the point where I can tell almost in an instant the difference between science majors who think art is some ephemeral thing that you're naturally good at and appears out of thin air, and the science majors who've taken an art class and know we're comrades in arms in the fight for human knowledge and expression against the forces of capitalism
