Bruce Wayne, drunk and full on Brucie mood in the middle of a gala: You know, that accent doesn’t really fit in around here. It’s cute. Where are you from?
Clark, internally debating every life choice that led him to this moment: I’m from Smallville. Kansas.
Bruce, leaning closer to Clark with a flirty smile: Oh you’re cute and funny. You know, I like that in a man.
Clark, very confused but trying to just go along with it: Thank you??
Bruce: I mean, everyone knows that Kansas isn’t real but I do always enjoy a good laugh.
Clark: What.
Bruce: What? Everyone knows that Kansas was made up for Wizard of Oz.
Clark, unsure if Bruce is fucking with him or if he’s just really deep into this dumb act: Bruce, Kansas is a real place. It’s one of the 50 states that make up America.
Bruce, tilting his head a little confused: There’s 50 states? Since when?
i have warmed up to both toshiro and kabru a lot lately ngl. i rlly like both of them. and as much as i'm looking forward to next week i'm kinda scared of the toshiro hate it's gonna bring outta the woodwork. partly bc i hated him at first myself lol 💀 his fight with laios reminded me of a lot of painful experiences i've had in regards to being autistic but like......... i think once i saw past my own bad experiences and perceived the situation objectively, toshiro's explosion was pretty understandable given the circumstances. toshiro was on the verge of starvation, dehydrated, barely able to keep himself conscious and standing up, and then the random white guy who's kinda been committing unintentional microaggressions towards him for years casually mentions that he did dark magic on the woman toshiro is in love with, the same woman that he's been driving himself to death's door to search for. i think he's justified in being a little upset lol.
like yeah i think what he said to laios was shitty, and ultimately i would say he is "in the wrong" in their conflict, but it's not like laios is a perfect angel either. and toshiro is also just in a desperate miserable situation, and stress can make ppl say things they don't always mean. and in the end, their conflict just makes the bond between them stronger bc it enables toshiro to open up and be more honest and encourages laios to consider his feelings more. and laios still adores the guy and wants to go travelling with him at the end of the manga
i think sometimes ppl should just allow characters to be flawed and say shitty things without instantly declaring those characters as villains. and i don't think his love for falin is "manic pixie girl-ifying" her either, he literally fell in love with her bc he thought she was kind and gentle and intelligent and unique which i think is sweet! and in time i think he would come to see those traits in laios as well.
i'm not saying ppl have to like him bc i didn't even like him myself at first (i actually straight up HATED him initially) but PLEASE at least allow the situation to be nuanced
When they are cuddling, Joel usually ends up tucked against Etho’s chest, with Etho’s chin on his head. It’s really mostly a matter of Etho being a tall gangly thing needing lots of space & Joel being, uh, more compact. But sometimes Joel decides this needs to be switched up. Of course, he doesn’t tell Etho that. He just sorta wriggles out of Etho’s grasp, scooches up the bed & pulls Etho into his chest.
Now, don’t get it wrong, Etho has no problem with this; it’s actually really endearing & he enjoys being held like that. However. It’s way way way more fun to annoy Joel. So he will escape Joel’s arms, scoot even higher up on the bed, & tug Joel back under his chin, saying nothing.
Naturally, Joel is annoyed & repeats the position change.
So Etho does it again.
& they sorta wind up spending the better part of half an hour just. Silently fighting over who gets to hold the other. Eventually they run out of bed & Joel’s neck is at a weird angle against the headboard & Etho will rotate them to face the other way & it just… continues, neither of them willing to stop or verbally acknowledge that this is happening.
Joel does this out of his stubborn need to assert his dominance (read: he just wants to hold Etho why the actual fuck can’t he just have this???). Etho just likes watching Joel get progressively more annoyed & listening to his little huffy noises of exasperation.
Eventually, they grow tired of the whole thing & they will relent. (Insert optional make outs here.)
In the end, Joel is happy to get to hold Etho in peace & Etho is delighted to be held, safe & secure, listening to his soulmate’s heart (even if it mean his feet are hanging well off the end of the bed).
I love Steph's origin as told in the Secret Origins 80 page giant- I just overall think it strengthens her character by giving her a lot of pathos and adding to her heroism (which isn't something writers were focused on in her actual intro in detective comics #647 since she was just meant to act as a plot device back then) BUT there is one tiny detail in it i will begrudge, and that is the portrayal of her having a minor love at first sight moment for tim
Secret origins 80 page giant, ID in alt
(or well, technically this was their second meeting in that story (the brick was the first) so...love at second sight?)
Mostly because Stephanie showed no interest in her introduction and only showed romantic feelings towards Tim AFTER this moment here:
Robin (1993) #4, ID in alt
Straight up the progression here goes:
The adventure in 'tec where they first meet -> Tim investigating the same crime scene as Steph -> she beats him up not knowing it's him at first, apologizes but says he shouldn't have scared her -> he remembers her/the moniker she goes by -> they talk about plot for a few pages -> Stephanie starts flirting
Robin (1993) #4, ID in alt
Which...is so fascinating to me and says so much about Stephanie. She highlights the fact that Tim "remembered" her. Like. Steph. Girl. This is our bar? It's sweet but kind of speaks to how much Stephanie is ignored at home/how little and sporadically she's shown interacting with her peers (and rarely ever the same kids twice). Her idea of peak romance is just...being on someone's mind even when you're not there.
Kind of also adds layers to Steph's proclivity towards jealousy later on, a manifestation of her insecurity and loneliness (though don't get it twisted, she's not written this way bc Dixon and co think it's an interesting character flaw, they wrote it bc they think it's an inherent character flaw of (particularly young) women/girls, which is very apparent in how he approaches Ariana's character as well from what I've read)
Also the fact that Steph becomes so smitten for Tim almost immediately after this is (a few issues later she aggressively flirts with him during AN ACTIVE HOSTAGE SITUATION. WHERE SHE'S THE HOSTAGE) again is kind of a mixture of kind of funny and sad. One boy is nice to her once and she's fully ready to wife him. Girl you are deranged (affectionate) (concerned)
it's so funny to me that everyone complains about the daine/numair age gap and not alanna/george when george was like, 19/20 and alanna was ELEVEN when they met
I rly don’t see how ppl be 20+ shipping kids anymore tbh… like, it’s so rampant and I don’t see the appeal to it anymore being as tho I’m in my late 20’s.
Looking for nice Silm/LOTR-inspired artist prints on Etsy for my rather bare walls and I just keep stumbling upon AI-generated "art" being passed off as original 🙃
i think it's hilarious how a big part of shawn's character is that he is BROKE all the time. he literally could be working anywhere, win millions just on poker or get a high paying job with his ability but he just decided to be a fake psychic police consultant and spend all his money on deep fried cheese
not to be about opera again but to be about opera again. as an art form it has the reputation of being super stuffy and something for snobs who don't know how to have fun only but honestly this was one of, perhaps even THE main theatrical entertainment for centuries. i wish people knew how hard these things can go and how engaging they can be. like characters kill and die and fight wars and (almost) commit human sacrifice left and right. characters fall in love they mourn they're ecstatic they cry they're furious it's an extremely dramatic and emotional art form! and i understand that opera does not appear approachable bc of the general conventions of the art form but i promise old works can be fun and engaging if you go watch them with some preparation beforehand (reading the libretto helps) - not to mention not all operas are old bc there are so many modern operas which engage with topical events! also the music slaps.
Been wondering about Macaque in the burnt marshmallow au. Like did he see Wukong pre-super glamour? Or would he roll up, ready for a brawl, only to find this charred-ass gremlin? Nothing throws your battle game off quite as hard as the whiplash of learning the 'invulnerable' Monkey King isn't so invulnerable.
WELL FUNNY STORY ACTUALLYGBKAMWOE I haven't really thought about Macaque and Wukong's dynamic outside of interacting with friends AU's n stuff so I'm not sure what'd be like in this AU or how Macaque would react bKMASODFA
I have been wanting to give a shot at like, making a design for Macaque but honestly he just isn't as big of a character in my head as of right now aside from analyzing and making fun of him gbfdskfmowe
Anyway, regardless of dynamic, if he saw beforehand, I don't think he would really remember or care about swk's appearance
and if he saw it out of nowhere on a day he rolled up to fistfight the Monkey King, I'd say... surprised? Ur right about his battle game being thrown just a little, but after the initial whiplash he'd probably just go on as usual with the addition of making fun of his new appearance and stuff "Aww, did you get a haircut?"
If it was like, after a bit of redemption or whatever, he'd probably slow down a bit, extending the surprised period cause he ain't in a rush to fistfight, but like, again, right into insults and making fun of him for it because bruh that's a whole new arsenal to get under his skin and annoy him, especially if he was hiding it, and you bet Macaque's gonna tackle the heck out of that--GW;ELKFMAEW
I think the harshness of the insults would depend on where they were at in their redemption arc too. ranging from the haircut thing to full out "how's ur student feel about his oh so perfect mentor looking more like a monster than the actual demons?" and stuff like that.
anyway tho, since haven't figured out when this takes place in canon or what the backstory and dynamic is, its hard to say ghdjfjkl;asdfasjdf
One of these days I'll give Macaque's character more attention, but apparently today is still not that day bGKAWMEOF
Bonus:
the "charred-gremlin" bit of ur ask gave me an idea so you get a probably non-canon doodle
i get rllie excited abt the new things i learn in m classes so a lot of the time i’ll end up rambling about it to my fwiends or whoever ‘m with about it but i cn tell tht usually they aren't exactly interested or paying attention 2 mi , which is v much Okies bcos i probably bore their ears off but ! ! thinking of al hatiham listening to wat i hv to say n nodding along n asking questions ノ actively engaging w mi makes me sooo so happie ! ꒰ྀི ˃̶̤́ ꒳ ˂̶̤̀ ꒱
