So. How about that HD Switch port, huh?
As anyone whos unfortunate enough to have known me as a child can vouch for, Paper Mario TTYD is my favorite game of all time. and its not even close. This game means more to me than i can even put into words, Every major life struggle ive been through, this is the game I can always rely on to bring me that sense of inner childlike joy that can be so hard to find these days.
Anyway. Ive always wanted to do a painting for this game, yet always struggled on subject and finding the right "time' i guess.
This is the biggest painting ive ever done, with 6 months of work, and around 60 characters, it was a massive endevor and im glad i managed to finish it.
Please play the remake when it come out, if you can. do yourself the favor of experiencing this magical game.
Prints coming soon.

joy-cons.
pairing ; barry allen x gn!reader. fandom: ; dc, the flash (cw) genre: ; fluff. rating ; pg. note ; it's been a while since i've written, so pls spare me the pain! just wanted to write a little drabble to start off my blog!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it took a lot of convincing for you to play mario party with barry. forty pleases and multiple interrogations on why you didn’t want to play to be exact.
are you scared? afraid you’ll lose again? come on, babe. i’ll go easy on you!
it’s not that you hated the game or anything. they’ve become a party favorite for years (except for the tenth game, we don’t talk about you) and you’ve always enjoyed how those games made you feel afterwards. whether you lost or won, cheated or played fair; mario party made you (and everyone) laugh and bond together, and you’ll always credit those games for bringing you and your family closer.
with your boyfriend… not so much.
“barry… listen…” you respond with an insecure smile, hesitant whether you should really bring this up with your boyfriend right now or suck it up and play a round if it makes him happy.
“oh no… are you still mad that i stole all your stars the last time? listen, we can play the other games! i’m sure one of them have an option to turn it off or something…” barry playfully rambles, his signature smile that made you fall in love with him still remaining. “which really defeats the purpose of the game, though. because then it becomes all vanilla and if everyone is given a fair chance-“
“barry- no.” you cut him off with a small peck to his lips, a gesture you often do whenever he goes on a tangent.
“then what is it?” he repeats the same gesture back, following up by leaning his forehead on yours to gaze into your eyes a little closer, his hold on your hands tightening to keep your balance and his upright.
“well… uh… okay, you know that mini-game where you have to button-mash the hammer into the little sand cactus thingies?” you describe the mini-game that made your thumbs sore in aftermath. in all honesty, you were great at it. until barry came along.
“the pokeys? yeah! you know i got a world record on that?”
“uh-huh. i was right there.” you lead him to the couch where both you and barry sit, reaching over to grab the red and yellow joy-cons on the table. “less than a millisecond…” you mutter to yourself.
“what about it?”
“well…” you clear your throat and open your palm that’s been holding the red joy-con for barry to take. “you broke them again.”
“oh- i can just pay you back, you know that-“
“no… barry. that’s not the problem! i’ve been noticing and this always happens whenever we play those type of mini games where we have to break our thumbs until they’re beating red!”
“hey! we don’t have to play those! we can skip and… and we can-“ barry fumbles over his words and you can tell something’s making him nervous. it’s quite comical, this entire situation. you weren’t mad, sad, disappointed, but suspicious.
“barry, did you even look at the joy-con.” you shut your lip tight, almost wanting to laugh, but remain serious as your boyfriend looks like he’s in a state of panic.
“wha-“ barry averts his eyes down to his palm. a singular joy-con, the one that he always uses whenever you guys play together, except it looks a little different than usual. “it doesn’t look broken to me- OOOOOH MY GOD.”
barry’s eyes register to a burnt joy-con. well, the other half of it. one side still maintains its signature red, but barely. he looks up at you with wide eyes and an expression akin to edvard munch’s the scream painting.
“yeah- can you tell me how you managed to smoke literally half of the controller? and out of all the games, it’s mario party?!” you take the controller back from his hand and examine it closely. one of the buttons is also smashed in. no wonder he had to get a different controller mid-round.
“listen- i don’t know how that happened! i mean, i told you i’ve been lifting more recently-“ barry attempts to grab the controller back from you as if withholding it would take any more suspicion off of him. the struggle has him rolling on top of you while both you and barry’s arms extend further away from each other.
“oh my god, barry. are we seriously doing this right now-“ you breathe out from under him.
“and that world record?! i blink once and suddenly you win first place with less than a millisecond to your name?! i’m not even sure if it registered how fast you were, barry.” you struggle through your words as he pushes his weight on top of your lungs in a continuing attempt to retrieve the joy-con, but a sigh of relief exhales when you drop the controller and barry rolls off of you.
“i’m good at games! great at them! i thought we talked about this, y/n!” you take a minute to catch your breath and watch barry desperately retrieve the joy-con as if his life depended on it.
“barry, you literally only win when we play those mini games-“ something catches your eye when he loops his finger through the joy-con’s wrist strap and the edge of the controller knocks an object out from under the couch.
another red joy-con.
you take a closer look and in midst, catch a glimpse of barry’s ‘oh shit face.’ before he could swipe it back under the couch, you hop off the couch next to him and crouch down, taking a closer look.
It’s burnt, just like the one you confronted barry about it. you pick it up and examine it with your hands. same damage.
“I can explain-“ you cut him off when you begin pushing the couch away. “oh my god, y/n. no, no, no, no!” he dramatically pleas, but barry knows he’s in too deep as what has been his worst kept secret, is finally revealed.
a clutter of broken joy-cons, all red with similar burnt marks and smashed in buttons reveal before you. it must’ve been at least fifty controllers scattered in a pile. at least four thousand dollars’ worth of product. he’s broken a few joy-cons before, which is why you brought it up to him in the first place… but that’s only been four or five times. not over fifty?! you could tell barry was in desperate need in saving money too because you also saw some third-party brands that resembled the joy-cons.
“okay, so… you aren’t going to believe me… but i have these amazing superpow-“
“barry..? w-what the hell?!”

2024 Upcoming Sapphic Fiction I’m Excited For! 🏳️‍🌈
Here are the top nine sapphic books I'm looking forward to for 2024! This year I'm excited to see how much more diversity there is amongst sapphic fiction - racial diversity, physical diversity, gender and sexuality diversity! Every year we get more and more books featuring a wider range of characters, and it makes me delighted every time.
2024 seems to be the year of the butch and otherwise gender non-conforming sapphic characters! There is even, much to my joy, a book about drag kings! I've been wanting a book about drag kings since I first started reading sapphic fiction, so I'm so pleased that one finally exists!
Below you'll find Goodreads links and summaries to each book. As always, this list is only a starting point - if you want to find more sapphic fiction, there's plenty to find on Goodreads and StoryGraph!
Furious by Jamie Pacton
After years racing go-karts and looking up to her mother, a celebrity Nascar racer, Jojo Emerson-Boyd should be starting her own racing career. But when she loses her mom in a tragic crash, Jojo’s future comes to a screeching halt. Now her dad won’t let her get a license, much less race. Instead, she’s stuck working at her grandmother’s mechanic shop in the sleepy small town of Dell’s Hollow.
But Jojo’s heart quickens when Motorcycle Girl Eliana “El” Blum shows up at the shop. El grew up on the motocross circuit sidelines, watching her sister and idol Maxine compete. When El mysteriously loses all contact with Max, she’s determined to find her, with her first clue leading straight to the mechanic shop, and to Jojo.
United by fate, the two quickly bond over Mario Kart showdowns and the Fast & Furious films. As their friendship shifts into something more, they’ll have to confront both their growing romance and the grief woven into their complicated families if they hope to chase down their dreams and make it across the finish line.
How You Get the Girl by Anita Kelly When smart-mouthed Vanessa Lerner joins the high school basketball team Julie Parker coaches, Julie’s ready for the challenge. What she’s not ready for is Vanessa’s new foster parent, Elle Cochrane—former University of Tennessee basketball star. While star-struck at first, soon Julie persuades Elle to step into the unfilled position of assistant coach for the year.  Even though Elle has stayed out of the basketball world since an injury ended her short-lived WNBA career, the gig might be a way to become closer to Vanessa—and to spend more time with Julie, who makes Elle laugh. As the coaches grow closer, Elle has a hard time understanding how Julie is single. When Julie reveals her lifelong insecurity about dating and how she wishes it was more like sports—being able to practice first—it sparks an intriguing idea. While Elle still doubts her abilities as a basketball coach, helping Julie figure out dating is definitely something she can do. But as the basketball season progresses, and lines grow increasingly blurred, Julie and Elle must decide to join the game—or retreat to the sidelines.
Late Bloomer by Mazey Eddings
Winning the lottery has ruined Opal Devlin’s life. After quitting her dead-end job where she’d earned minimum wage and even less respect, she’s bombarded by people knocking at her door for a handout the second they found out her bank account was overflowing with cash. And Opal can’t seem to stop saying yes.
With her tender heart thoroughly abused, Opal decides to protect herself by any means necessary, which to her translates to putting almost all her new money to buying a failing flower farm in Asheville, North Carolina to let the flowers live out their plant destiny while she uses the cabin on the property to start her painting business.
But her plans for isolation and self-preservation go hopelessly awry when an angry (albeit gorgeous) Pepper Smith is waiting for her at her new farm. Pepper states she’s the rightful owner of Thistle and Bloom Farms, and isn’t moving out. The unlikely pair strike up an agreement of co-habitation, and butt-heads at every turn. Can these opposites both live out their dreams and plant roots? Or will their combustible arguing (and growing attraction) burn the whole place down?

The soft glow of paper lanterns on the side table cast gentle shadows across the room, painting a tranquil scene in Leo's peaceful study. You both sat on the comfy cushion chairs surrounded by shelves filled with a variety of novels and poetry anthology as the fragrant aroma of your green tea and incense filled the air. The novels you were reading together seemed to come alive in this serene setting, the words on the pages weaving tales of love and devotion.
As the night went on, he would occasionally look up from his book, his piercing eyes locking onto you, filled with admiration. He was so grateful to have you and little does he know, you needed him too. You looked his direction after feeling like you were being watched and with a smile confirmed he was staring at you. Quickly, blushing and looking away, you smiled and looked back to your book. "What?" You asked with a slight giggle.
"Nothing" he smiles showing some teeth. Finally, Leo couldn't contain his emotions any longer. He gently closed his book and set it aside, turning to face you. His voice was as soft as the rustling leaves in a quiet forest. Rubbing his hands together and taking a deep breath, he spills.
"You know I love you right?" he began, his voice laced with a vulnerability that made your heart skip a beat. You turn to face him and you look up into his gorgeous blue eyes.
With a giggle, unable to contain the joy bubbling inside you, you replied "I love you too Lee"
"No Y/N, I mean, I love you. So much"
Your smile fades, eyebrows raised and mouth slightly agape as you realize what he means. In all honesty, you felt like you were dreaming.
"I've cherished every moment we've spent together. Every smile, every laugh, every word you've ever said. You're the most extraordinary person I've ever met, and I can't keep my mouth shut any longer."
You just wanted to grab and kiss him like any romance movie, you weren't sure if he was ready yet.
"I love you more" you say, seriously, tears welling up in your eyes. "I always have" you finish. Your breath caught as you awaited what he would say next.
He looked suprised and relaxed. You stood up and spread your arms out, offering a hug. Leo jumped up and wrapped his arms around your waist. Picking you up by the waist and holding you so close, you wrapped your arms around his neck and held him so tight.
A radiant smile graced both your lips. Finally you both pulled back, arms still in place. As you both gaze in eachothers eyes, no words were able to form.
"Leo," you whispered, trying to say anything, but you were so caught in the moment, all you wanted to do was kiss him. He felt it too. In one swift moment, he pulls you in closer and broke the space between your and his lips. The kiss was on fire, with all that pent up love and emotion. You both had let it all out.
In that moment, in Leo's study, life around us froze. The kiss was gentle, sweet, so full of admiration and need. You couldnt get enough. Thanks to your lack of oxygen, you two pulled apart for air. Leo couldn't wrap his head around how he ended up with you. This gorgeous, smart, heart stopping woman. Inside and out.
Gazing into eachothers eyes like it was the first time, reading eachother like a book. Until..
"I KNEW IT" Mikey yelled as stares you two dead in the eyes. His eyes wide and mouth agape.
"GUYS GUESS WHAT" he spins around and runs to the living room. You giggle.
"Oh boy" Leo sighed, looking in the direction Mikey ran. "It was so worth it though" he stated looking down at you. Smiling, you gave him one last heartwarming kiss before leading him to the living room to kick his ass at Mario Kart.

Hi! Hope you don’t mind me evading your inbox again hehe, I hope you’re doing alright🩷
I was just playing some MK races earlier and thought about how cute it is that in Peach’s garden she has these giant topiaries of her close friends. Like I just imagine her spending weeks having them prepared and one day she brings the Mario bros, Toad and Toadette to the garden and proudly shows off the topiaries, and ofc they’re all super touched (especially when Mario sees his is at the center hehe ;3) Idk I just think that scenario’s cute and wanted to share it with you☺️
Aww I love this, thank you! 🥰 And it makes a lot of sense as well. Peach loves her friends so much, I mean of course she would have meticulously hand-crafted sculptures and paintings and botanical art of them spread throughout the castle! 🌳 And although she wouldn't say it out loud, seeing Mario's face in various places on a daily basis would obviously bring her a lot of joy. 😇
I also like to think that both Mario and Peach have a picture of one another that they keep preciously and look at everyday. 💞🖼

sweet, sweet victory.
Tumblr media
366 words, no explicit content.
warnings: fluff, competitive couples, slight implied smut.
summary: the battle is on between marc and layla.
The evening sun painted hues of orange and pink across the sky as Layla and Marc settled into their cozy living room. The air buzzed with anticipation as they prepared for a friendly Mario Kart competition, a tradition that often led to laughter and playful banter.
"You ready to lose, Spector?" Layla teased, a mischievous glint in her eyes as she held up her controller. Marc chuckled, confident in his gaming skills. "We'll see about that. Loser does the dishes tonight."
The stakes were set, and the race began. Twists and turns unfolded on the screen as Layla and Marc engaged in a spirited battle of virtual racing. Laughter echoed through the room as banana peels, shells, and power-ups became the tools of competition. To Marc's surprise, Layla took an early lead, maneuvering through the tracks with finesse. "Looks like someone's been practicing," he remarked, his competitive spirit ignited.
Layla grinned, her eyes never leaving the screen. "Maybe I've got some hidden talents," she replied, her thumbs expertly navigating the controller.
As the race progressed, Layla maintained her lead, leaving Marc trailing behind. The finish line approached, and with a final burst of speed, Layla crossed it, securing her victory.
"I can't believe I lost," Marc admitted, feigning shock as Layla celebrated her triumph. She turned to him with a triumphant smile. "You know what this means, right? Dishes duty is all yours." Marc raised an eyebrow, a playful spark in his eyes. "Fine, but I get a rematch later."
Layla agreed with a nod and a playful roll of her eyes, setting aside the controllers. The room was filled with a light-hearted atmosphere, the thrill of victory lingering in the air. As the evening progressed, Marc dutifully approached the kitchen to tackle the dishes.
Later that night, after the chores were done, Layla and Marc found themselves in the dim glow of their bedroom. Layla couldn't resist a playful gleam in her eye. "You owe me one more thing for losing," she declared.
Marc raised an eyebrow, curious. "What's that?"
With a smirk, Layla pounced on the bed, playfully pinning Marc down. "I get to be on top tonight," she announced, a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.
A burst of laughter filled the room as they playfully wrestled with each other, the Mario Kart victory turning into a sweet and intimate moment. In the warmth of their connection, the friendly competition had transformed into a memory etched with laughter, love, and the simple joys of shared moments.

I need to appreciate Mario's characterization in Luigi's Mansion 3 for a sec. It's probably the most in character and on brand I've ever seen him and we only even see him at the start and the end so get ready for me to not shut up about it (this is gonna be a long one folks hold onto your hats)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We first see his dynamic with Peach. They're sitting together and clearly he's very talkative and tries to make her laugh! And they're probably busy mutually pining as usual
As always, he's trying his hardest to be a gentleman for her. Not that he ever really knew how to treat the Princess because of his lower-middle class upbringing, but he does his best. After their ride gets a bit rough and her crown almost falls off, he's concerned for her and checks to see if she's alright before they both laugh it off (albeit Mario a little more nervously).
Tumblr media
As soon as they arrive, he makes a beeline for the cakes and snacks, which is a nice reference to things like the Super Show and Superstar Saga where he's shown to eat a lot (good for him! Eat up king!! Having to be the world's hero all the time must take a lot of energy!!)
Once they head off to their rooms to sleep, he says nightnight to Luigi which they've definitely done ever since they were little (source trust me on this one i would know). Small interactions like that really showcase how much he has always cared for and loved his little bro!! More on that later
Tumblr media
The next time we see him is after Luigi saves him, and this man just FLINGS himself at his brother. He's so happy to see him again!! I've also always loved how Luigi has to bend down a little whenever they hug. Short king!! Mario was probably feeling so many emotions man. Relief, joy, pride in Luigi all in one happy ball. He's so guy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But just like that, he's off again. This really shows one of the most admirable and maybe concerning things about Mario- how quick he is to dust himself off and immediately help others. No matter how scared he might have been in those moments when he was portrait-ified in his room late at night, no matter how tired from relief he might have felt after being saved, he more or less told Luigi that they had to save the Princess in the same breath that he thanked his bro for saving him.
The contrast between the bros here really make them stand out individually. Mario runs ahead leaving Luigi to follow, both because he's anxious to save Peach and also he's a headstrong protective little fool who wants to check that the road ahead is safe for his bro. He hasn't learned his lesson from when he did that in LM1, I guess? And once he sees the coast is clear, he runs back to make sure Luigi is still there. I love how excitable and energetic he is here! The man really can't stay still. Welcome to this week's episode of 'Is it because after saving worlds and running around all the time he feels the need to be constantly doing something otherwise he feels useless or does he have ADHD?' (It's both)
He's also really speedy at getting to the top of building, good LORD. It shows how much he's grown accustomed to platforming, and how capable he's become after all this time! But once Luigi gets the top as well, things get interesting:
Tumblr media
He frantically asks Luigi for help. Now that I think about it, has he ever seen someone he cares about trapped inside a painting in the same way that Luigi has? This could well be his first time. And for once, the infallible and 'invincible' hero can't do anything at all about it. He knows Luigi can get her out, but he's still so worried about her. Poor Mario :(
Tumblr media
Once she's out, King Boo appears again. This small detail got to me ever since I first saw this cutscene– he puts a hand in front of Peach!! He feels like he always needs to be the one protecting her, even on a subconscious level. He knows he doesn't have the equipment to deal with ghosts, and a simple hand in front of her won't do anything to stop King Boo, but the gesture is instinctive. As if he's trying to say 'Don't worry Princess, I'll handle this!' like always, even when he knows he can't. Always so quick to take on the hero role.
But despite his best intentions, he and the Princess end up trapped again. He probably felt really silly after being freed again, knowing he couldn't do anything to help her this time around... but Luigi had it handled!
Tumblr media
And finally, a picture from the credits. The fact that he and Peach were immediately willing to help rebuild the mansion shows both their collaborative and forgiving nature- even though these ghosts had effectively helped in his capture, he was fine with working with them right away. And it all turns out for the best, because the game begins and ends with him and Peach sitting and laughing together. Mommmm they're pining again
TL;DR Mario is energetic, loving, and most of all protective. Whether it's his big bro instincts or wanting to be his love interest's heroic knight, he really can't stop himself from doing everything to protect others. Man I love Mario Mario

Aquamarine
AO3 link!
~~
Aquamarine, from the Latin and later Italian word for seawater, is also considered to be the "stone of courage and preparedness" and is believed to help maintain balance and order. Aquamarine is often used as a "good luck" stone, thought to bring feelings of peace, love, joy, and happiness.
~~~
"Everything will be alright."
Mario’s head snapped up. Surely he’d misheard her.
But Peach, meeting his gaze evenly, repeated herself: “Everything is going to be alright, Mario. This will pass, however painfully, and then we can rest, rebuild, and return to life as we know it. I have faith in that.”
Mario knew better. An all-out war raged around them, and they were both being pulled into the fray, in opposite directions. People were dying. They very well could die too. He knew she was scared. And he was almost certain that she knew he was scared, too. How could she say something so… so foolish, so false, now, of all times? It wasn’t like her.
Yet the resolve in her voice was unwavering, and determination burned red-hot in her eyes, and as quickly as he’d been confused, he understood. Acknowledging what might happen — what was probably going to happen, if either was permitting full honesty within themselves — was counterproductive. They could agonize over their circumstances, over the many outcomes, over the plenitude of things they wished they’d said and done if only they had known there might not be another opportunity. But where would that lead them?
Falling into despair would only guarantee their demise. Hope would give them a chance. No matter how miniscule that chance or how false that hope, they had to take what they could get. She understood that, and now she was inviting Mario to join her in reclaiming what might be their last prospect of victory, or at least survival.
How often he wished he could be as strong as her.
But before he could accept that invitation and return her assurances, something in Peach’s expression flickered… and it was gone just as quickly, squashed down and set alight with an internal force that only a goddess could possibly possess. Her fingers fumbled with the brooch on her chest for a few seconds before she freed it from her dress and pressed it into Mario’s hand.
“This jewel has been in my family for at least a hundred and fifty years,” she said, guiding his right hand with her left so that the brooch sat exposed in his open palm. “My mother had entire outfits designed around it; it’s my sole reminder of her. So it is, without a doubt, my most valuable possession.”
Mario regarded it as well as he could in the dull light. He recalled seeing it on past queens in the old paintings lining the castle’s entrance hallway, but it certainly didn’t show its age. The aquamarine gem matched her eyes in color and almost matched them in intensity, exploding into fragments of light whenever the sun caught it just so. He’d always thought it suited her.
Carefully, she folded his fingers over the brooch, resting her small hands gently over his. “I absolutely can’t lose it,” she added, quietly. “No matter what.”
He heard the intent all too clearly. He was being trusted to guard her most prized accessory. Therefore, he had an obligation to return to her.
I can't lose you, she said in all but words.
“I… I’ll keep it safe,” he promised, and the few seconds he pulled away from her to pocket the valuable were torturous. Taking her hands in his made everything feel right again, gave him the boldness he needed to match her resolve. “And once this is all over, I’ll give it right back. I’ll even have it polished so it looks good as new! You have my word, Princess.”
The cacophony outside grew louder. They were running out of time.
“Good. I’ll make all sorts of pastries as thanks,” Peach said, and her smile looked truly heartening for the first time since all of this nonsense began. “We’ll stuff ourselves on tiny cakes and endless tea and coffee and talk all day and all night. Or at least until Toadsworth comes to complain about having a visitor over so late and shoos you off.”
Mario couldn’t help but laugh. She was right; Toadsworth became more strict past ten or so at night, flustering himself over the princess’ wellbeing because a proper princess simply must remain well-rested, Your Highness! Maybe they could pull the “We just survived a catastrophic war” card, or at least get Toadette to cover for them so they could sneak out after hours (which would hardly be the first time).
Those thoughts slowed to a halt as Peach joined in, giggling quietly. The sound echoed off the barren walls hiding them away, delicate and pure; she blushed a sweet shade of pink, and her whole face glowed so achingly softly. It was as beautiful as it was haunting.
She truly believed what they were saying. And for a moment, Mario had believed it too.
I can’t lose you.
“Run,” Peach finally urged, a beacon of stability in the madness encroaching upon them. “Run, and hurry back to me. There’s still so many things I want to tell you, Mario, so don’t keep me waiting too long, alright?”
Mario’s breath caught in his throat.
I can’t lose you.
A rush of impulse surged through his blood, and he didn’t have the strength to fight it off.
“Ti amo,” he whispered, pulling himself into their conjoined hands. “Ti amo tantissimo, Principessa.” He bowed his head over her knuckles and screwed his eyes shut, trying and failing to control the trembling that overtook him — he wanted so desperately to remove their gloves, feel the imperfections of her skin against his, or kiss the silk separating them, kiss her, tighten his grip and run with her until all of the mayhem was far behind them or they were cut down where they stood. He didn’t care, so long as he didn’t have to leave her side.
“Mario…”
He stiffened.
“...What does that mean?”
For a fleeting moment, there was no war. Looking up didn’t reveal any fearsome resolve or half-suppressed fear or dread within her eyes. All he could see was affection, tinged dark with sadness.
This wasn’t the end. It couldn’t be. He would ensure that or die trying.
“It means…” Squeezing her hands one final time, he forced himself to smile. “...I will see you soon.”
He let go before he could register how painful it was, and he turned and ran, until a dozen doors and countless layers of stone separated him from her, until he stepped into the fray and acrid smoke filled his lungs.
Pausing in the final doorway, he snaked his hand into his right pocket, his fingers caressing the aquamarine brooch tucked safely within.
Images of tiny cakes and golden hair and clear afternoons full of laughter and sunlight flickered through his mind. He let them pass, he took a breath, and then he charged ahead.
Night at the Mansion
Fandom: X-Men
Characters: Professor X, Jean Grey, Rouge, Storm, Jubilee, Cyclops, & Wolverine
Summary: You’ve been friends with the X-Men for years despite being a non-mutant yourself. Now you’ve been invited over for a sleepover on a late Saturday evening.
Tumblr media
Not my Art
Chapter One
The phone rings breaking the sound of drops of rain falling from the tin roof. I grab my tv remote to pause Twin Peaks before answering. As I could never let anyone interrupt my viewing! An unknown number reads across the screen. “Jeez, is it those damn telemarketers again.” I utter out in annoyance. “Hello?” Once again talking in annoyance. “(Y/N)!!! You wanna come over to the mansion for a sleepover! Scott has got the students on a field trip for the night! Jean managed to convince Xavier so… whatcha say!!??” Jubilee keeps going on in excitement. I’ve waited years for a sleepover there, to hangout with my best friends for the time of my life! “I can’t believe they got Xavier convinced!!” I yell out like a little school girl. I quickly run to get my keys in the whiff of a breath. “I’ll be there in like five minutes!!” I yell out again hanging up. My heart beats in excitement, taking this night from a bottom zero to a quick top of the chain eleven. A smile lines my face from cheek to cheek in pure happiness, pure joy. I can’t barely contain myself!
I arrive at the front door in nothing but my Snoopy pajama pants. Rain pouring outside in the cold air of the night. Feeling the rains chill brush against the sleeping t-shirt. I gently knock once on the door as to not be an asshole. A voice speaks to me throughout head like it’s my very own thoughts. “Ahh, I see you’ve arrived in quite the hurry.” Xavier telepathically communicates throughout my mind. The door automatically opens like a grand beauty entrance. My first time at the mansion & they greet me with joyful care like I was one of their own. A tear almost drips down my face in pure bliss. Xavier greets me in his classic British tone. I can practically feel the chills of sleep run through my entire body. “(Y/N) are you ready to join your friends?” Xavier now speaks without the use of his mind. “Yes yes! Show me the way!” I speak out with heavy excitement in my voice.
He drives off in the wheelchair down the hallway. The wheels gliding across the wood like figure skaters on ice. I follow him down the hall in pure awe of the beauty in the mansion. A tear runs down my cheek once again as I feel the excitement burst out more & more.
Chapter Two
“(Y/N)!!!” Jubilee jumps up with excitement. She runs over in my direction jumping up & giving me a hug. Everyone immediately glances over at me in a quick turn. Smiles running across their face besides for Logan. His gruff expression never changes as he hogs down more slices of pizza. I gaze around the room in beautiful awe. Two dragged in beds with a sleeping bag cover the room. Wood engravings from Wolverine coat the walls like ancient cave paintings. You can even still hear the rain outside through the noise of Mario Kart.
“Would you like to have a play?” Storm asks as politely as possible. As if she never knew negativity. Despite being goddess of the weather.
“Most definitely!” I let out running over to sit down on the floor next to Jean.
“I’m so happy you came!” Rouge talks in excitement with her beautiful southern accent. It calms my body like the feeling of being rocked like a baby.
“I wanna play you in Mario Kart bitch!” I yell out to Rouge with competitiveness in my voice.
“You’re on sugar. Be warned, I am the queen.”
Storm hands me the controller as a light shock hits my finger. Rouge jumps off the bed as I hear the springs jump off like kangaroos. “You goin’ down like Trask sugar!” In just a few small minutes I begin swerve back & forth as if I was the one driving the car. Even Logan puts down his fifth slice of pizza to glance at the tv. We become neck & neck, going between 1st & 2nd place over & over while Storm still rides in 10th.
“Kick their ass Rouge!!” Jean yells in excitement
“No! (Y/N) You have to winnnnnnn!!!!” Jubilee yells shooting tiny fireworks from her pointer finger.
“BAM!” I yell out in excitement. Jumping up & down in joy of winning. Logan grips my shoulder mid jump, fear strikes me as him & I have never been close. “Good job Kid. Someone finally dethroned the queen.” Logan says looking directly into my eyes with a sense of proudness. I have to try my best to hold back tears from the pure ecstasy.
Hours pass in endless fun, the kind you remember before death. What people who peaked in high school must’ve experienced. Yet it’s gotten late, time for us to sleep in our bag or dragged in beds. Even Logan joins us in the sleepover, he even changed out of his tank top & jeans to plain plaid green pajamas… & a tank top.
“Okay so who’s sleeping where. We got one twin bed, one normal bed, & one sleeping bag. Someone is going to have to quadruple up.” Jean begins to talk as if she the mom of the group.
“I’ll take the twin.” Logan lets out with a grunt at the end.
“May I take the sleeping bag?” Storm asks with the gentle kindness of the wind.
“Why yes you mayyy!” Jubilee talks with a horrible slight British accent impression.
“Well then (Y/N), Rouge, Jubilee, & myself are going to have to quadruple up!” Jean talks with a little amount of excitement in her voice.
We all let out “good nights!!!” before bed. While Logan snores loudly like a sleep machine. Jean, Jubilee, Rouge, & myself divide the queen bed into our separate sections. Jean & Rouge lay ass to ass while Jubilee & myself lay ass to ass as well. Making Rouge & myself stare at each other in the middle of the bed. Slightly awkward but even a tear can shed from my face in pure joy & bliss. Yet in that brief moment of pure joy while staring into Rouge’s eyes I can feel sleep come over me. My eyes closing like blinds on an overly sunny day.
Chapter Three
“(Y/N)! You awake?” Rouge asks with a kind beauty in her voice. She shakes me lightly trying to wake me up.
“Wh…whattt” I ask as I open my eyes like a new born kitten.
“Scott is back! Wanna go out for breakfast with us?” Rouge asks as a smile spreads across her face like she was the Green Goblin. Just without the sinister look.
“Sure!” I yell as I jump outta bed.
My Princess Peach headcanon's
༺Peach༻🌄
Peach is a bit of an artist, and loves to paint, I like to think she makes the paintings in her castle. So sometimes she’ll grab Toad or one of the Mario brothers to be the subject of her paintings, Toad has been doing this for years, so has grown quite fond of it (he once asked her to paint him very muscular as a joke, now that painting lives above his fireplace at home, it’s his pride and joy, of course next too the very first painting she made of him when they where just kids).
Mario finds it flattering but can’t sit still doing nothing for too long, it drives him mad, so he often takes a few reference photos and sends them to Peach.
Luigi is all for it, he likes to dress in different outfits for it, it makes them feel better about themselves, Peach proudly shows off one of them in her throne room, it’s Luigi with a beautiful Blue Sun dress on, in the middle of a field, sat amongst the grass and flowers.
She loves to bake with Luigi, they teach each over new recipes, decorate cakes for her parties together. Luigi is basically her unofficial food taster at this point, he’s personally cooked for her a few times now, and Peach insists on hiring him as her personal chef, She’s jealous he and Mario get to eat like this every day.
Luigi and her are close, he is learning all the responsibilities she takes on, so that he could take on the role of an ambassador of sorts, he wants to help her out since she always overworks herself, and could use the extra help, plus he could keep the kingdom running smoothly when she’s kidnapped again.
They also read books together, preferably action or romance, so if something happens to one of their favourite characters, they call each over, going:“they just killed (character)”, “they did not!”, “girl I’m not lying, turn to page 312, swear to glob” .
Mario is a massive sweetheart, so if she’s sick he’ll run over to her castle with soup in one hand and Luigi in the other (by the ankle) Luigi finishes off the rest of her work, while Mario tends to the Princess, putting on her favourite movies, while tying her hair back to keep it out of her face.
Although she hates being sick, she loves how attentive Mario gets, and takes full opportunity to snuggle up to him on her bed wrapped in many, many blankets.
She tends to not let her anger get the better of her on the rare occasion someone manages to push all of her buttons. So she has a private gym to punch out her emotions, and scream, it’s so she can be as loud and as violent as she wants. Lost a few good punching bags that way. It's also less hastle then activating the obstacle course all over again.
She was trained from a young age, and although she may look small and dainty to the untrained person, or one that doesn't know her well. But she is very capable of protecting herself, she knows how to pick locks, untie ropes, pleanty of survival training and first aid.
She knits and crochets in her spare time, making jumpers and blankets for the homeless or people in need, she of course has programs set up to help out her people, and they are very successful, but she also knows donations are important, especially after hearing the Mario brothers experience being in those programs and eventually being in the system as well.
Mario and Luigi help out, Mario loves carpentry so will make toys and puzzles for the kids, Luigi makes stuffed toys and regular day clothes, they both make large amounts of food to donate, and discount their plumbing services for the people in the programs (yes they set their plumbing business back up).
Luigi also volunteers to teach the kids on some days, Mario occasionally joining him when he has the time. Peach funds all of it, making sure they have the right materials, and food, and will always insist on taking food home.
When Bowser is more casual with Peach he’s actually alright, he never try’s to harm her anyways, when he’s really busy she takes on babysitting the kids, as she does enjoy her time with them, but prefers that they just call her Peach, she enjoys having them around, playing video games with them, listening to Ludwig’s music, letting Wendy do her makeup, drawing with Jr, playing with Lemmy. They all have a special place in her heart.
Princess Peach can speak many languages, she was thought it would be much more convenient if she learnt the languages herself instead of having a translated when talking with other kingdoms that did not use English, or even words sometimes.
Peaches Dad, King Toadstool, is still around, but is very ill so he can’t do much for his kingdom anymore, as even getting out of his bed is a very strenuous process for him. This is why Peach is still a Princess and not a Queen, in title anyways, but she has taken on the role of Queen.
Peach loves her father dearly so she had computer monitors installed on his wall, so he can still watch over his people in one way, and watch her and her friends have fun. The cameras are in the more populated areas, such as the stadium, in toad towns market street, and the throne room, but only looks at that if he has the express permission of his daughter, as she has meetings in their and he does not want to intrude.
Often enough when Peach is kidnapped or missing and it was one of the more covert missions, he is the first too notice and report it to the Bros. He loves the Mario brothers, for not only helping out and saving his kingdom multiple times, but also being their for his daughter in her time of need, he has given Mario his blessing to Marry Peach, as he has seen their interactions together and knows all too well that they pine for each over.
Peach will visit his room every day at lunch time and eat with him, sometimes she brings the others, most of the time she’s on her own, Toadworth also visits him a lot which brings her comfort, knowing that his best friend is still around to talk to him.
( MTF Peach headcanon) Peaches mother died in childbirth, which devastated the King and the Kingdom so she was a lovely woman and an even better Queen.
This however did not stop the King from raising his child to the best of his abilities, along with his best friend, and co-parent, Toadsworth, so when they learned that the little Prince, wanted instead to be a little Princess, they did all they could for her, they had their best mages research ways to help her out with her transition, which was mostly made up with permanent spells.
Still he was glad that his daughter was happy, but know even more worried to the fact that he didn’t know where to begin in teaching her how to do stuff girls do, so he scheduled play dates with Princess Daisy, and even had Queen Bean help out, and Toadworth took on teaching her the more well, royal boring side of it.
And how did Peach come up with her name? Actually her father did, she still wanted her father to name her, so he went with Peach, it described her perfectly, fair, delicate, sweet, pink, and her mother favourite fruit.
He looks at the woman that Peach has become and can’t help but cry a little, she is almost the spitting image of her mother, sweet and caring, a long with his determined attitude, he couldn’t be more proud of the wonderful young Lady his previous Peach has become, and believes no doubt, that her mother is watching over her, and is no less proud than he is.
PIZZA TOWER
Piping-Hot Platformer Perfection
Tumblr media
Having been a long-time fan of Super Mario and all things Nintendo, I have never played a Sonic the Hedgehog game. I never really thought going extra fast was enough to hook me into a new platforming experience, but when I tried out early 2023's indie highlight Pizza Tower, it began to change my mind.
You play as Peppino Spaghetti, who's on a quest to destroy the Pizza Tower before the evil Pizzaface uses it to blow up Peppino's Pizza. Pizza Tower's gameplay loop is simple: run to the end of the level, destroy the load-bearing pillar, and get back to the start before the escape timer runs out. Hidden beneath this simple premise is one of the most addicting games I've ever played. Peppino controls like a dream, even at top speeds, with responsive controls that have been finely tuned to encourage high speed, tight turns, and well-timed reactions. Levels have been carefully built, with each wall, gap, and enemy meticulously arranged to create a satisfying experience for the average player, and a potentially godlike one for those who have mastered Peppino's moveset. Once you've familiarized yourself with a stage, it can be an absolute joy to breeze through it like nobody's business, especially if you're going for those P-ranks. The difficulty feels comfortable on first playthrough and provides a fun challenge for those who want to be as great as can be.
The artstyle is messy and it works. The large-canvas pixel art echoes the classic look of Microsoft Paint, and fans of old Cartoon Network shows like Ren & Stimpy will recognize how those shows' energy works its way in to make the art look great. The animation is fluid and snappy, conveying Peppino’s brutal rage when attacking enemies and speeding around the level.
And the soundtrack? Don’t even get me started, it’s phenomenal. There was not a single miss in this musical journey, and even the bonus tracks on the OST go above and beyond. It’s Pizza Time gets you pumped up and sweating for the harrowing run back to the start, the boss themes set the stage just as well as the art, and the final track (which I will keep vague to avoid spoilers) really lets you know that this is it, you’ve done it.
Pizza Tower exploded in popularity for good reason. It is one of the best platformers I’ve had the pleasure of playing in recent years, so if you haven’t played it yet, this is your wake-up call. Go drop some cash on it on Steam, and I guarantee you’ll love it in 30 minutes or less. That’s an ICC promise!
FINAL RATING:
A Supreme Pizza out of 10
- Rock
