I am of the firm belief that there is a Crane Wives song for every single emotion.
Are you in the mood for a song about being trapped in an abusive relationship where your partner keeps making you feel as if no one else loves you like they (Tell you) do?
Try Nobody, by the Crane Wives.
You need a song about how you've not taken the opportunities offered to you because you're so scared of what could happen, and you know you need to get up and try and go but there's always the "what if" holding you back?
How about Safe Ship, Harbored by the Crane Wives, or Keep You Safe, by the Crane Wives?
You need a song about how religion has helped create a narrative of men being superior to women and that you had to grow up protecting your own self from men, and now you're finally able to relax and watch the little girls grow up shielded and stronger for it but you still chose to leave the abusive men, the horrible men in your life and live "in the darkness" because it finally makes you feel safe?
Ribs, by the Crane Wives.
How about literally having NO HANDLE on your life and feeling utterly useless because it seems like everyone has it together but you literally have no idea what to do? And you feel as if you were cheated in your adult/elder life because you were told "It would just work it?"
Hard Sell, by the Crane Wives
A SONG ABOUT HOW ABUSIVE PEOPLE LEAVE A HUGE IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE AND YOU CAN'T GET RID OF THE SCARS THEY LEAVE????
Pretty Little Things, by the Crane Wives
A SONG ABOUT BEING LEFT BEHIND CONSTANTLY AND TRYING TO BE MORE LIKEABLE BUT STILL BEING SO FUCKING LONELY ALL THE FUCKING TIME?????
Here I Am, by the Crane Wives
A SONG ABOUT HOW CAPITALISM IS LITERALLY DESTROYING OUR LIVES????
The Hand That Feeds, by the Crane Wives
So anyways I just think the Crane Wives are neat. There are SO MANY songs from them there's a reason they're my number one on Spotify.
The Moon Will Sing - The Crane Wives [Animatic] (f.t Zukka)
I've always wanted to try posting on Tumblr. So ill honor my first post ever, with a zukka post!
I wanna say how i HATE drawing those stupid shoulder pads ToT I enjoyed drawing book 1 Zuko more than anything (loved drawing all versions of Sokka tho)
“I’m out of wine and flowers, so I hope an introduction will suffice,” his blood-red eyes meet hers, and something in her gut twists. As if she already knows. As if she’s just realized that she’s missed the obvious. “My name is Astarion. I was in Balder’s Gate when-”
Astarion. Save Astarion. Astarion.
All the breath leaves her lungs as she interrupts, “You’re Astarion?”
summary: how far would you go to save the one you love? what about a stranger?
pairings: astarion ancunin x sorcerer!oc (aruna)
warnings: canon angst, canon trauma, canon violence, memory loss, sort of enemies to lovers?, sort of soulmates au?, overuse of pet names, eventual smut. 18+
the thing that I love about The Moon Will Sing is that it completely subverts the moon and sun trope, but in a completely believable way that, in my opinion, suits the trope way better.
the moon and sun are in no way equals. the moon is given everything it owns by the sun, and it can be taken away just as quickly. like the lyrics say, 'bore the shadows that you gave with no light of my own.' the moon literally shines only with the light given by the sun.
in this song, the moon and sun are used to depict a toxic relationship rather than a healthy one, the singer being in the moon's position, feeling that their love for someone consumed their own sense of self.
i love that the crane wives don't use the trope as it often is, and instead uses it to fit their own narrative. it's genius writing.
It kind of annoys me when people talk about the moon will sing as if it's a love song (tiktok) when in reality it's a deeply bitter, resentful song. It's not even inherently romantic. It's more akin a herding dog telling a sheep it's leading it to the planes and then leaving it there. The dog doesn't even rip its throat out. It just leaves. Or maybe the sheep left first, and the dog didn't come to get it. Either way, you're lost and fucked, no where to go. Not even home. The moon will sing isn't a love song, it's about love yes, but it's saying "I wish I never loved you because you made me who I am and I hate myself." Hence the line, "bore the shadows you made with no light of my own // I shine only with the light you gave me." Because, you know, the moons light is only a reflection of the light passed to it by the sun. The moon can't stand on its own, the sheep, because the sun is the only thing it's ever known.
