Omg that’s so funny. Like the boys ask you to hold smth for them really quick and you put it in your boobs 😭😭😭
Azul would put you to good use and give you his random little trinkets he carries around
Malleus would be fascinated with how you figured you could hold all that
Leona would start putting his hand in them as a pocket to heat him up 💀💀

YEAH TITTY POCKETS quick snippet before I go to bed:
Riddle was walking past the cafeteria when he noticed a small crowd forming around the table that the Prefect, Grim, Ace, and Deuce would normally sit at. A sense of dread filled him as he approached, positive that one of his freshmen was up to some trouble again.
So imagine his surprise when he walks up and sees a bunch of students, from various years and dorms, surrounding you as they handed you items. Imagine his even bigger shock when you, making direct eye contact with Riddle, smile at him as you take a small notepad from a random hand and stuff it into your breasts.
It takes a moment for him to realize that you've undone your tie and unbutton your shirt to reveal a healthy amount of cleavage, the hem of your white lacy (Oh heavens, he thinks it's lace, wait why is he looking!?) peeking at him.
“Oh, hey Riddle—”
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? YOUR SHIRT—DID YOU JUST—GAH!” Riddle launched himself over the crowd to clutch your shirt and tug it closed, face in his signature red.
“Hey! What's the big deal!” Riddle whipped his head over to see Ruggie pouting, holding a handful of granola bars.
“I was gonna see how many granola bars they could fit—”
“This is utterly indecent! Why are you allowing this Prefect? What even led up to this?!”
“Oh!” You perked up, grabbing and gently pushing his arms off you. “I was telling Ace and Deuce how I can fit up to 19 items into my boobs for storage, 10 if they're bigger. 3 if they're really big though, like a cell phone!”
He stared at you with confusion, flushing again as he saw you take three bars from Ruggie, adjust your…boobs, and start sliding the items in. As if this was a normal thing.
“Why are you acting like this is normal?”
“…. Because it is? Riddle, as someone with titties,” you ignored his scandalized gasp. “I gotta take advantage. These girls may hurt my back, but they also make excellent pockets. Look!”
You took a potion bottle from a different hand, smoothly sliding your hand down the side of your right breast. Taking a moment to adjust again, you stood up with your hands on your hips, looking proud.
“Look at my boobs and tell me how many items I have in them. Right now!”
Riddle gasped, “I will not, that is so, so, so indecent—”
“10!”
“25!”
“8!”
You snapped your fingers at a random Ignihyde student, grinning as you shouted, “Correct! You get a prize, lemme just—”
You took a moment to dig through your bra, as Riddle listened in to the students around him make comments.
“Is it wrong to find this hot?”
“Dude, why can't I have boob pockets?”
“Oh my goooood, am I into this? I think I'm into this.”
“That's actually kinda useful, not gonna lie.”
You cried out triumphantly, holding out a lollipop and handing it over to the Ignihyde student, who shrugged and accepted the candy.
“See Riddle? Useful, you can ask me to carry anything you want—”
“I will do NO such thing!” He scoffed, crossing his arms indigently, “I am a self-respecting housewarden of Night Raven College, and I'm offended at the implications that I'd do such a thing with your... you know.”
He gestured as Azul casually walked up, the crowd parting for him and the twins.
“Hello, my dear Prefect, can you hand me the spare punch cards I gave you? We ran out faster than anticipated this week.”
“Oh yeah, here” You dug through your left breast, taking out a small bundle of Mostro Lounge punch cards. “I ended up giving out a few to some guys, so expect a few new customers this weekend”
Azul smiled and nodded at you, taking the cards from your hand.
“That's fine, thank you, Prefect. I come by again later to grab the rest of my items.”
“Okie! See ya, byeee!”
You waved him goodbye, turning back to Riddle, who, once again, looked at you scandalously.
“… What?”

Countless nights
Malleus x gn!reader
i felt like writing something super cute and lovey dovey and basic after listening to can't help falling in love by elvis presley so here we are lol😌🩷
this is nothing revolutionary that hasn't been done before just so much fluff you'll throw up a furball (made of fictional fluff) by the end
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are many a night which he spends thinking of you.
Lilia had told him about it, a long long time ago. How your chest would tighten, how your face would become warm, how your heart would flutter when gazing at the person you're in love with. But he never imagined that it could feel this amazing, this freeing, this beautiful.
There are many moments he thinks of on these nights...
You run up behind him, yelling the silly little nickname he's grown to love hearing fall from your lips.
He turns around, grinning at the sound of your voice. Truly, you are a sight for sore eyes. Your little furry companion is with you, too, dozing off in your arms.
"It's so nice to see you in the hallways for once." you realise that you mostly see him in front of your dorm when he randomly shows up. Because of that, you kinda forgot that he's also a student at the school and takes classes as well.
"Likewise. It's always a pleasure to see you." He didn't say anything presumptious, so why are you making that excited face all of a sudden? Now he feels giddy.
A silence falls between you.
"Ahaha... Um... I actually have no idea what to talk about... I kinda just ran to you after seeing you..." you admitted awkwardly.
That is... very comforting to hear. All you need is the sight of him to want to be by his side. The warm feeling spreading across his body is very welcome.
He wants to hear you say that sentence over and over, but greed is not a good quality to bear, so he'll settle with hearing it only once.
"Then I suppose you wouldn't mind listening to me talk? Do you happen to be partial to gargoyles?" He takes the opportunity to talk about the passion no one seems to share with him. He's fully expecting you to say no and change the topic, and he wouldn't blame you at all in some regard. He's well aware most humans don't take interest in something as specific as gargoyles.
"I never really thought much about them before. But sure, tell me about it." you actually look really interested, waiting for him to start.
He smiles.
Oh, he just can't help falling in love with you.
.
"Did you hear about that new ice cream place that opened in town recently?"
When you asked him if he could spare 2 hours of his day just for the two of you yesterday, he was certainly not expecting you to open with this.
"Lilia told me you like ice cream, and I was pretty curious about the taste myself." you wonder to yourself if there's any funny flavours you wouldn't find in the human world. If so, you're definitely trying them out.
"So, uhhh... wanna go try it with me?"
You don't even realise how happy you've just made him. He has to hold back the wide smile that threatens to spread across his face.
"Hahaha, you're so strange... Though I certainly wouldn't mind." You seriously just want to... hang out with him? What a pleasant surprise, indeed. It makes his heart beat with excitement.
"Let's go!" you start running down the hill to get to town, excited to share ice cream with him.
.
"Aw man, it's almost impossible to choose." you're contemplating between three different flavours at the moment.
"Shall I choose for you, then?" Malleus suggests. He already picked the flavour he wants and is waiting for you to make your choice. Not that he's annoyed by that. The longer you take, the more minutes he can spend by your side. How greedy of him.
"Go ahead." you sigh defeatedly. You're truly thankful he can put an end to the awkward situation of you just staring between 3 different flavours for like, 2 whole minutes now. You're creating a line behind you, no doubt.
"You should get the strawberry flavour." Malleus recalled a story of Lilia's in which he told him that strawberries are a symbol of love in a country he visited. He feels a bit cheeky, sneaking a subtle hint in like this.
"Uh, sure! I'll have one scoop of strawberry!" you raised an eyebrow slightly at his satisfied smile. Why is he smiling now, of all times?
If he's happy, you're happy, you suppose.
The two of you decided to walk around town while eating the ice cream. It was a nice change of scenery.
You were telling Malleus about a funny potionology mishap you had with Grim and Ace today when someone bumped into you, making you lose grip of the ice cream.
It fell splat on the ground, making it no longer edible.
"Oh come on..." you looked down at the wasted ice cream sadly. It was really good, too.
"I can return it to its original form, do not worry." Malleus suggested, already about to do it when you gently grabbed his wrist. His eyes widened slightly and a strange tightness enveloped his chest.
"No need. Just hanging out with you is enough. Enjoy the ice cream for the both of us." you're really fine with just watching him. He seems very happy when eating ice cream, which you can't get enough of.
"...If you wish." he felt his whole being warming up at your sweet words.
Oh, he just can't help falling in love with you.
.
"Child of man. What is the meaning of this?" his expression darkens when he sees your fingers wrapped in bandages.
"Of wha- Oh, you mean my bandages? It's, uhhh, a bit embarrasing. And also a suprise." you hid your hands behind your back, not wanting him to worry about them too much.
"Tell me." he looked quite scary in this moment, almost like he was ready to kill. Is he really that worried over it? It kinda makes you feel giddy.
"It'll ruin the surprise, I'm just saying." you shifted your weight from one foot to the other. His terrifying gaze didn't falter however, so you gave up.
"Roses are really important symbols in Briar valley, so I've heard. So I kinda wanted to give you a hand-picked rose boquet for your birthday tommorow, but I was dumb and didn't use gloves to de-thorn the roses. So that's why my hands look like this." you still felt a little bad ruining the surprise, but giving Malleus peace of mind is much more important.
"Oh... So it was that, I see." Malleus still witheld a somewhat cold, scary expression. He can't stand to see you hurt, in any way. And knowing it was all for him makes him feel even worse.
Still... you wanted to make him happy so much that you willingly hurt yourself to see it happen. Warmth rushes to his face at the thought of you handing the boquet to him. That's quite a common way of confessing love among humans, is it not?
He can't wait for his birthday all of a sudden.
On these nights, he just can't help falling in love with you.

Heart of a Warrior
AN; Request by 🦢 !!! Omg I absolutely love this idea sm, I had a little field day w this one 😘😘 But tbh I didn't know how to end this too the ending is kinda rushed and bad !!! Also for this js imagine Sokka and Suki r 20 and reader is 18 !!(It doesn't matter but Katara and Aang r still 12/14 !!) AND ONE MORE THING OMFG anyways just imagine that the gaang stayed at kyoshi for a little bit longer like 2 weeks before the fire nation came. (why does it feel so weird writing a fic for Sukis' sister x Sokka like dam she rlly stole her sisters man 😭😭)
Pairing; Sokka x afab!reader(romantic), Suki x afab!reader(family)
summary; When the gaang visits Kyoshi Island to ride some Koi fish, Sokka seems too distracted too even try to figure out whatever is going on with Katara and Aang. And distracted by a certain younger Kyoshi Warrior
warnings; not proof read!!, angst(?), sumwhat sfw ? semi one sided enemies to lovers
You sighed, wiping off the lengthy make up you wear to be a warrior. You loved being a Kyoshi Warrior more than anything, but it was tiring. You were two+ years younger than everyone else so Suki, your older sister and the leader, let you take breaks every so often. Luckily she said you can take the day off. You started to lay down to take a nap when you heard running and yelled outside, in your pjs you ran to grab your fan and went quickly outside. Staring at the trio that was tied to the podium you were star struck. Their clothes were so different than anything you have ever seen. You had honestly(but luckily) been sheltered to only have to know clothing from the earth kingdom and Kyoshi island. After debating between the three and your sister, the young bald monk was revealed to be the avatar. Something about it irked you and you rolled your eyes. When you looked back you had caught the attention of a water tribe boy who seemed to be your sisters age. he started to walk over and talk to you, but nothing peaked your interest. Mostly just him giving back handed sexist compliments.
"Your sister is pretty strong for a girl!" He chuckled, obviously annoyed he was ambushed by girls.
"Uh huh" not giving him common curtesy to look him in the eyes.
After a few more comments you simply zoned him out. Well until he asked something that you were actually interested in.
"Sooo.. are you one of the painted fighters too?"
"Um. A Kyoshi warrior? Yea I am" and he gave an interesting look so with that you walked off sighing to yourself. The first outsiders to visit during this 100 year war had to be the most uninteresting people ever. (Cuz honestly you weren't completely convinced the Avatar was here on good terms, he'd probably just lead the fire nation here.)
For the next few days you saw Sokka try and learn how to fight like a Kyoshi Warrior. It kind of disgusted you, you know he just wanted to be better than Suki, but luckily she was the best of the best so you had nothing to fear.
Suddenly you found your feet moving towards the duo practicing, against your will. You knew you disliked Sokka, you avoided him as much as possible. It was baffling to you how different he is from his sister, at least you could stand her. Once you reached the two you sat on a near-by tree stump. Sokka looked over mid attack and absolutely fumbled falling straight on his face. You rolled your eyes and his face went bright red. For the hour that you watched them, Sokka missed every hit and took every hit thrown at him. By this time you were annoyed, instead of finding it humorous. It was like he was trying to be funny and mess with a sacred art form. Frustrated, you loudly groaned and walked away. Sokka knew he had messed up, he wanted to be good, he wasn't sure if it was for him or for you. He thanked Suki and ran off to find you.
Practicing all your moves you had learned over the course of your young teenage life, you left someone creep behind you. Stopping what you're doing you turn around, expecting Suki, but finding Sokka. You simply crossed your arms expecting him to speak.
"You saw me practice today" he uttered embarrassed
"Indeed I did," rolling your eyes
"I didn't mean to mess up, I was just nervous with you watching!"
"Whatever you say water boy, just stay out of my way and stop making a fool out of yourself." you turned back around and tried expanding your fan, but suddenly a hand was on your wrist and your hip, spinning you around instantaneously. Sokka's face was mere inches from yours, he looked down at your lips and back up to your eyes making the hair on the back of your neck stand up.
"Why won't you give me a chance?" he whispered low
Your mind whirred, 'chance for what? Why does he want a chance? Why is he so close?'
"Um what do you mean?" you gulped loudly
He let go of you lightly, "Why don't you give me a chance to show you I'm not who you think I am, I'm strong and a warrior."
You immediately scoffed "Yea right, what I saw today really showed that." this obviously pissed Sokka off, and he lowered his head down to stare at you in the eyes. Suddenly you could smell him, taking a moment to appreciate how clean he kept himself, you gathered and studied every inch of his face. Pausing to look at how nice his lips looked in the light. A moment of silence was suddenly broke.
"Like what you see?" He said smirking, leaning in to close the distance between yours and his lips.
You yelped loudly before throwing him over your shoulder and running away.
After what happened it was easy to ignore him and his practices. But your heart didn't want to, some how that stupid pony tail boy made you yearn for him. But your brain knew it wasn't a good idea to fall for a strange boy, let alone let him know that. But fate was against the organ in your head and as you turned the corner you saw, once again, your sister practicing with the water tribe boy. You walked up to them to watch but this time when Sokka noticed you, he gave it his all. Easily overpowering Suki, her face turning bright red that you could see through the makeup. Sokka crossing his eyes and giving a smug look. Your jaw dropped and you felt something inside your stomach, a tight knot that wouldn't untie. Sokka walked over to you after thanking Suki and bowing to her.
"How was that?"
you just stared at him, shellshocked. Causing him to laugh he rolled his eyes at you, he wrapped one hand around your waist and one around the back of your neck pulling you in for a kiss.
You eased yourself into it, kissing back. Your brain knew it was wrong but what was so bad with letting your heart win?
"Well Sokka, you do have the heard of a warrior." you laughed before leaning in for another kiss.

My posts
Initially I wrote, “I ran my mouth about the Watcher streaming/paywall situation because I make bad decisions,” but I think the post has actually gone over well? In short, I want to see them succeed but I am also deeply fuckin’ baffled. I so desperately want the tea about what was really going on behind all this, and how the guys are reacting to it now, and I really hope they can turn this around somehow.
Side note, Friday was CHAOTIC.
Reblogs of interest
The Hot Vintage Lady Polls are escalating in round four. We got to a point where I posted propaganda for Ava Gardner AND Dorothy Dandridge in their matchup. Probably the biggest scandal of round three was Vivien Leigh getting knocked out, but she’s now High Chancellor of the Shadow Realm. The most contentious matchup this time seems to be Judy Garland vs Natalie Wood, which is nearly 50/50 as of this writing. But keep your eye on Hedy Lamarr, who may have Mifune Sweep energy.
(I think I love these brackets for the same reason I love Dracula Daily: it’s delightful that thousands of people on Tumblr actually have deeply-held opinions about things from many decades ago, and if they didn’t before, they do now.)

Hozier Watch 2024: “Why Would You Be Loved” has arrived on the Wasteland, Baby! special edition. I like this post about how that song is in conversation with “No Plan,” one of my favorites. (I wrote about “Movement” a while ago, but I could have fully inflicted an essay on you about how “No Plan” pulled me out of my six years of hiding from the internet. Anyway, it’s a great album from a few years ago, check it out if you haven’t.)
Generally I keep my mouth shut about Taylor Swift, but the new songs sure have some lyrics. I love Florence Welch, but I’m scared.

This is the best cut content I’ve ever heard of.
Tumblr media
I’m really sad this minigame was cut. Having a kind of rhythm game (I guess?) would have been really neat, and been… y’know, more than just three games, even though Checkerboard Chase is pretty fun.
I don’t care that this was cut from the final game, I’m considering it canon. Imagining these four in a little band trying to play is hysterical, especially because of the instruments they all have.
I’m gonna ramble about that now so if you don’t wanna read all that, here’s the cutoff for just my initial thoughts. If you wanna read more, here’s my insanity over this one image.
The instruments they have is just great. Dedede on drums is very fitting, and did end up returning later. Dedede’s Drum Dash exists after all, so obviously he loves his drums. Waddle Dee just having a tambourine and not something like a bass guitar is so funny. They look like a rock band or something because of the other three, but he just brought tambourines and they ran with it. Kirby, being the main character, of course has that leading instrument, the electric guitar. And Adeleine can play the keyboard so she isn’t just skilled in the traditional art, like drawing and painting, because apparently she can play piano too.
How is Kirby playing the guitar. He doesn’t have fingers. He doesn’t even really have arms, he just has nubs. What kind of guitar is that? How is he doing that?
Waddle Dee looks so happy to be there, like he’s glad that his friends aren’t mad that he forgot the bass and now they have to make do with tambourines.
Dedede looks mad for some reason? Like “I hate these drums I can’t jump on them what’s the point”.
That is a very large keyboard because Adeleine is standing on her tiptoes to reach it. And she’s one of the tallest characters in the whole series. She’s also more to the side where Kirby, Waddle Dee, and Dedede are all closer together. Are keyboard players usually off to the side? Does Adeleine just need space when she’s preforming? Does she feel like an outcast because she’s human?
The logo on Dedede’s drums looks like “K4” and I mean… the Kirby 4? Because there’s four of them? Or maybe 4 because 64?
Adeleine looks more like her design in Dream Land 3 in this. Her hair looks like it’s more in her face, but in Crystal Shards (and in all her later appearances) her entire forehead is bare, except a small strand of hair in her updated Star Allies design.
Kirby is so happy. He’s just smiling. Granted, he’s almost always smiling in Crystal Shards, since he smiles the whole way through all the levels when you’re just walking. But he looks especially happy here.
I wonder what songs they’d be playing? Maybe just some simple music, or music from the game or other Kirby games? A semi-rock remix of the Pop Star theme would be pretty awesome. Kirby just does an insane riff in the middle of it while his friends are still playing the theme normally. He would do that, and then look at them, and they’d all be stunned and he’d be smiling like that’s just how the song goes. Or they’d do Dedede’s normal theme and he’d be going all in on those drums the whole time while everyone else tries to play louder to balance it out.
Since I feel like this is still canon despite being cut, sometimes they’ll all get out their instruments (Adeleine just painting a keyboard) and play stuff for everyone. All the other Dream Friends are around in the castle making requests, and maybe Bandee remembers to grab a bass this time.
They play some songs suggested by everyone else, and then randomly throw in something to catch them off guard and either freak them out or delight them. Marx getting too annoying? Just start playing Kirby’s Triumphant Return! Meta Knight looking unimpressed? Time to play Sword of the Surviving Guardian! Want to remind Taranza that his girlfriend is dead? Moonstruck Blossom time!
Yeah I really like this cut minigame.

Prologue: Set Me Free
When Hybern falls, all of their prior experiments are free to take the world as they want, but for months no one hears anything coming from the castle. Until the massacre. Until the whole palace explodes. Their biggest weapon is out, and she only has one objective: get back to her sisters.
Warnings: mentions of blood, mentions of child abuse, mentions of experiments with human beings, mentions of possession (?), mentions of child murder, this is just so fucked up (please someone tell me if I forgot something)
I'm still not sure about this, since I'm usually on the reading side, not writing haha. Tell me if I should keep going on with this. Also, how do I make this blog pretty? Mine just looks like trash lol. Btw, English is not my first language, this is just for me to see if I am actually fluent or if I'm delusional.
She always thought that she would spend her whole life running away from herself, but while she ran through those camps, she thought she could be free. She didn't have any hopes for herself anymore and would happily die in the same cell she was raised in, but when she saw the new group of children coming into the horrible place that she was obligated to call "home," she decided they all had enough.
She herself had gotten there when she was only a child of three. Her family was all dead. Or at least that's what they told her. She didn't know any better than to believe. They had thrown her into the cauldron when she was merely a kid of eight, and when they realized all of them were coming out of there with more powers than what they planned, that's when the experiment began, and she would not let those children suffer the same. Not that it matters anymore because all of the children are dead. Hybern didn't have the cauldron anymore. The kids became useless. And she exploded.
Exploded her cell. Then, her friends' cells. Then the whole tower. And later on, the whole building. Now she was in the camps. Burning them with the powers they taught her how to use. She thought it was rather funny.
She was sharing her body and mind with a sadistic, killstarved demon, and for some seconds, she let herself imagine what her sister Nestha would have thought of her if she saw what she was doing. She wondered if her twin sister, Elain, was also a bloodlust monster as much as she was. Then she shoved those thoughts away. She shouldn't think of them. Not at the moment.
Not when she was killing the males and females that trained and showed her how to use her powers. Not when she was slaughtering them with the techniques they taught her. Not when she was staining her spider silk suit with the blood of the ones that gifted it to her.
And yet, while the tears stained her face and her skin started to get darker because of the amount of power she was using, she thought she might be free after all.
Aemma Archeron decided in that moment that she was going home.

Okay, what about the "You get seduced by an illusion of your deepest desire and it turns out to be your crush" trope for the ask game.
An AU where Second works for AFO but has a huge crush on his brother, who occasionally comes by with snacks and kind words for the workers. One day, as part of training, AFO uses a quirk that shows people their deepest desires and says that as part of training they have to resist whatever pops up.
Imagine the look on his face when Yoichi appears.
What fun! Oh no, how will I keep AFO from ending this AU early by murdering Second?
1. In this AU, AFO focused more on good publicity to keep his little brother on his side. Since AFO has a reputation as a fighter for metahuman rights, Second also joined AFO's side. However Second used to be a thief when he lived on the streets, so as a result he's allowed into the shadier side of AFO's business. He helps transfer fishy packages but doesn't know the full extent of it.
2. AFO's plan worked a little too well because now Yoichi is absolutely desperate to be part of the family business and do good for the world. AFO doesn't want Yoichi uncovering his lies. So he gives Yoichi some busywork and puts him and his perfect hair on recruitment posters. (This works very well.) Yoichi regularly makes care packages for his brother's employees. Second is smitten at first sight. Being young and inexperienced, Second doesn't understand his own feelings or why he keeps saving the wrapping from Yoichi's gifts. He just really looks forward to the visits.
3. No matter the AU, AFO is still an obnoxious boss. So naturally, he comes up with stupid mandatory team-building activities that are really more about tormenting his employees. AFO decided to publicly reveal his employees greatest desires because he thought it would be funny to humiliate them. Training them to resist was just an excuse.
4. Second saw Yoichi's face and had several realizations about himself in a row. At this point, Second's life is in grave danger. However, he's saved from the wrath of an overprotective brother because...it turns out that every single employee attracted to men had Yoichi as their desire. And there were quite a few people for whom Yoichi was the exception to their sexuality. AFO made an enormous blunder by using Yoichi on his recruitment posters. Yes he had an employment boom, but at what cost? Fortunately there are so many dream Yoichis in the room that AFO can't tell who is attracted to his brother. Oh yeah, and some of the employees had fantasies about AFO too, possibly in a threesome with Yoichi. Those poor souls take the brunt of AFO's wrath (he'd kill them if he could figure out which dreams came from which people).
5. To make this all even more mortifying, Yoichi was also at the team-building exercise and flees when the dreams start popping up. Second figures Yoichi must have been embarrassed and follows him to apologize. However, Yoichi didn't actually see that everyone had a crush on him. Yoichi ran off because his own desire popped up--and it was Second.
6. When Second sees his own shadow chasing after Yoichi, there's shock, then a tearful mutual confession, then two people who skip off for a happy first date while AFO is still trying to figure out how he can fire all of his employees and still keep his business running. He can't, but everyone gets a big pay cut.
(All of these are free to use in my Three Weeks of Trioholders event.)

The Undead Adventurer (4)
When an interrupted resurrection spell leaved Danny halfway between life and death, his adventuring career should have been over. But Danny Fenton won't let something as minor as being regularly mistaken for a member of a zombie horde, or kidnapped by an unknowable monster of death stop him from becoming the strongest adventurer in the world with his best friends by his side.

Chapter 4: Living Thing, Dead Thing (first chapter | previous)
[Warnings for eldritch and psychological horror, and violence]
The deeper they traversed into the dungeon, the stronger the feeling of being watched became.
The next time they ran into zombies—though there were far fewer than the last horde—he ordered them to stand still and be silent while the trio took them out. That did nothing to help the unpleasant sensation Danny was struggling with.
The next zombie they crossed paths with, Danny ordered to just leave them alone, and they passed it by, allowing it to keep shambling along and inevitably attack the next group of adventurers that came its way. If anything, that just made the sensation even worse.
Growing increasingly anxious, Danny asked his friends if they felt it too, but evidently neither of them did, because they just looked at him funny and shook their heads.
If it was just him then... was he imagining it? Or did something have its eye on him specifically?
After three days of that intense feeling, Danny didn't want to go to sleep, even with one of his friend's keeping watch. They insisted he was just being paranoid, but he couldn't believe that, no matter how much he wanted to. Something was watching him. He had no idea what its motives could be—if it was waiting for him to do something, or waiting to attack him when he let his guard down. But it was watching him, and it was watching very closely.
Still, his friends urged him to sleep, reminding him that he wouldn't be able to fight very well exhausted if there really was something watching him, and it really did try to attack. He tried. He really tried.
But sleep wouldn't come.
It didn't come the next night either.
After the second night with absolutely no sleep, Danny's movements were sluggish and sloppy. He could fly now, and yet his team was still carrying him. It was embarrassing to say the least, but also extremely concerning, considering the unspoken threat lingering over him, watching him all the time.
Finally, the next night, he simply couldn't stay awake anymore, whether he wanted to or not, and after an hour of vigilant waiting, he drifted off at last.
He awoke in darkness.
It wasn't regular darkness.
The entire dungeon was dark, but it was nothing like this oppressive, tangible darkness that now surrounded him. Since the lich, he'd been able to see in darkness, but he couldn't see anything at all. It was as if his eyes were closed, but there was nothing he could do to open them and look at his surroundings.
It was warm, contrary to cool corridors in the rest of the dungeon, and eerily silent, like all the sound was being swallowed up by the dark. There was a strange smell in the air, too, thick, and so dizzyingly sweet it made his head spin. He would almost believe he was dreaming if it didn't feel so terrifyingly real.
Then there was a light above him.
It appeared suddenly, and even though it glowed so brightly, it didn't illuminate anything else, so he still saw nothing past it. It just floated there, glowing like anything, moving slowly. Danny had no idea what it was, but it seemed almost alive, and that left a claw of fear gripping his lungs.
Then... the light blinked.
Danny inhaled sharply and opened his mouth to scream, but no sound came out. It too was swallowed through the darkness which enforced a silence more complete and unbreakable than any Danny had yet experienced.
It was an eye.
An enormous, glowing eye.
It blinked again.
A thin, white line appeared below it, growing longer and wider until Danny could see a horrible smile. A smile full of glowing white teeth, each one as sharp as Danny's sword and almost as long, in a mouth easily as wide as Danny was tall.
This... thing... whatever it was... wouldn't have had any trouble eating Danny, armor and all.
But instead, it was smiling at him. A smile that... despite all its terrifying features, gave off an aura of comfort.
"Hello, living thing, dead thing," it said. It's strangely accented voice a rumbling whisper, so soft that Danny could only barely hear it, but so powerful that he felt his body and everything around him tremble from the force.
"What are you?" he demanded through gritted teeth. He wasn't the type to be frozen in fear. His mind and body screamed at him to draw his sword and fight this thing, whatever it was, but he couldn't move. It was as if he'd been paralyzed somehow.
"I am called Pariah Dark," the something said. "I am the king of all dead things."
"Are you... mad about me killing your zombies?" Danny guessed.
"No, of course not," the king replied. "They were dead already and so they remain. My subjects will be mine forever. Whatever form it takes, death is always extant once it appears. You are mine too, but you are different, living thing, dead thing."
"Danny," internally the boy cursed himself. What if the kind was some kind of Fae? He'd be screwed. "You may call me Danny." Would that be enough to cover him? Danny was only a nickname, at least, so maybe he'd have been safe either way.
"Prince," the king said.
Danny's muscles tensed. "What?"
"I have been searching for eons to find a successor, and you are perfect, Danny, Prince, living thing, dead thing."
Danny had never wanted so badly to draw his blade, but he still could not move. He felt something caress his face in the dark, ever so gently. He wondered if this darkness wasn't just darkness, but rather the king's form. An all-consuming black that no light could penetrate.
"Woah, woah, woah, I can't be the prince of death, I'm not even dead!"
"Yes you are." The king's smile widened. The whole time they'd been speaking, he hadn't opened his mouth or moved his lips.
The darkness ruffled Danny's hair fondly.
"But I'm alive!"
"I won't hold that against you."
What could Danny do? How could he possibly get out of this and back to hid friends? How had he even gotten himself into this situation?
"Why me?" Danny asked. "What exactly do you want from me?"
"You have seen the truth of death like no other has, though you do not realize it yet, and you are still of your own mind," the king explained. "Be my successor and share in my duties in the hereafter and the land of the living."
Danny tried to shake his head, but still, he couldn't move a muscle. What truth of death? What duties?
"I have been sealed in the hereafter," the king explained. "I can exert no influence over the living, even those who have cheated death with spells. You can. I can make you more powerful than you can imagine, if you will be my prince of all dead things."
"I just want to go back to my friends and back to my life," Danny said. "Please your majesty."
The king made a rumbling humming sound. "Very well, my prince," he said at last. "You may travel with them as I train you. They with be unable to see me, in any case."
"What?"
Suddenly, Danny snapped to wakefulness. Had that all just been some horrifying dream?
"Danny? Are you alright?" Sam asked. If she was on watch now, it had to be close to morning.
"I... I'm...."
That omnipresent feeling of being watched hadn't faded, but it had changed. It was as sinister anymore, not as hungry. Instead, it felt... comforting, protective, even... affectionate, if that was possible.
He looked around the unlit corridor, and he could see perfectly fine. But the shadows seemed darker somehow, so that in the shadowy corners, his sight could not pierce through.
His dream had not been a dream. The king of death was real, and following him, and watching him. It seemed he was the prince of death now, whether he wanted to be or not.
"I'm fine," he assured Sam. "I'll be fine."
There was no need to worry her about it, or Tucker. If they couldn't see the too-dark darkness, or feel the king's single eye on them, they wouldn't understand, anyway. They'd just think he was losing it and try to force him to retire again.
Everything would... probably be fine.
Although Danny anticipated having some pretty unsettling dreams from now on.

taz november celebration fic four: prompt bakery au
sorry this is a day late but i'm also kind of not because of how long it is it evens out, i went with modern taakitz (feat. some other balance peeps) and may or may not have gotten a bit carried away, but i hope y'all enjoy the fluff! ~3.8k words @taznovembercelebration (in fact it's so long i will have to post in multiple parts oops)
Before the sun had even begun to dawn in the sky, Taako was starting all the different doughs and batters for the day and preheating the large double oven. He loved working in the early morning quiet and solitude, every measurement memorized and every movement second nature. His bakery was called Sweeten It Up with Taako, and it had become a popular fixture in the city. In the beginning, he just made things for his friends, then had a stand at the farmer's market, and finally saved enough to buy a brick and mortar shop. On either side was a dog training school and a combination plant/metaphysical/book store. A big buff guy with reddish hair and a beard named Magnus who was a bit younger than Taako ran the dog store, and a short, older white-haired gentleman with medium brown skin named Merle was the proprietor of…whatever the deal at his store was. Taako himself was tall and slim with long platinum blonde hair and sandy brown skin, he always thought the three of them must look straight out of a goofy buddy comedy on the days they took their lunch breaks together. They were pretty funny, and he didn't mind the company sometimes, but he was there to work and hone his craft, not make friends.
That morning, like every other, Taako made sure the display case was set up perfectly before flipping over the open sign. Croissants, muffins, éclairs, lemon bars, his signature elderflower macarons, and every other enticing treat imaginable were arranged in layers on cake stands and in trays. "Once again, perfect," he said to himself with a smile, now open for a day of business. The first customer to arrive, opening the door with a little jingle of the bell, was Lucretia, the curator of the city's art museum. She had dark skin, and her gray natural hair was cut very short. Even wearing just the museum uniform polo shirt, nametag, and khakis, she exuded a sense of elegance and grace. "Morning, Lucretia!" Taako greeted her cheerily. "Let me go grab your order, one sec," and he was gone before she could reply. She gasped when she saw the box of cutout cookies frosted to look like watercolor paintings. "Taako, these are gorgeous! I don't know if you can make it to the opening we're serving these at, but there's a ticket for the exhibit with your name on it at the front desk whenever you're free." Taako and Lucretia weren't necessarily close personal friends, but they talked a lot about art whenever they got the chance, and that can tell you a lot about someone. They thanked each other and he promised to be over soon. After Lucretia left, the rest of the morning passed normally, with a steady stream of business people, parents and children, and retired folks.
Around noon, though, a customer he had never seen before caught his eye as soon as he entered. He was a little shorter than Taako, dark-skinned with cool undertones, his locs up in a ponytail and wearing a long black coat. Taako was stunned, but he quickly blinked and snapped out of it. "What brings you in today?" he asked. "This is a bakery, yeah? Presumably I'm buying some of your baked goods," the stranger replied, with a twinkle in his eye. "Yes, yep, it definitely is!" Taako was not used to feeling flustered, let alone at work, where he was at charge and could do what he was best at. All of a sudden, it seemed much warmer, and he quickly freed his hair from the braid down his back and swept it up into a bun with a purple scrunchie. The stranger asked which muffin was best, paid in cash (and tipped!), and left, but waved as he turned to go at the door. Taako waved back dumbfoundedly, kicking himself for not having thought of anything witty to say as he watched the door close. What on earth was that, anyway? He saw plenty of hot guys every day, there was no reason to waste time thinking that this might be anything different. Still, his mind kept wandering back to the stranger the rest of the day.
After he locked up, he called Lup, and she picked up right away. "Hey, Taako! Are you off?" "Yep, just heading out. Your place or mine tonight? I will have you know I don't feel like cooking, so don't let that influence you." Lup laughed. "No worries, carryout is fine, but we're redoing the bathroom, so yours is probably better." "Got it, see you at 7." click Taako didn't want to cook?! There's another point for the list of reasons she'd been worrying about him lately. She sighed as she headed to her car from the studio, brushing dust and bits of dried clay from her hands and clothes as she went. Lup looked a lot like Taako, except her hair wasn't as long, and she dyed it starting at the top of her ears red, and then orange halfway down. She often wore it in two Dutch braids so it was neatly out of her face while she was working.
Taako was secretly disappointed he was hosting. He always felt bad that his apartment didn't live up to Barry and Lup's cozy little house that actually felt like a home. His apartment was just where he crashed when he wasn't at work, the only room with any effort actually put into it was the kitchen. Even though it had been a while now, it was still hard to get used to the idea that he wasn't going to have to leave soon. He loved that he and Lup and Barry regularly spent time together though, so it was worth it to have them over.
"Barry?" Lup called as soon as she walked in the front door. "One second, honey, let me just get off the ladder!" A pale chubby man with light brown hair and a beard wearing glasses and paint stained jeans and a tshirt emerged with his arms outstretched for a hug. As they embraced, Lup exclaimed, "You didn't need to work on the bathroom after school, care bear!" "I don't mind. Really anything quiet after the day I had with those middle schoolers is fine by me, and of course, they still don't even understand the weather cycle!" They laughed and headed to their room to get changed for Taako's. Barry pressed the buzzer in the lobby, the speaker crackled and then projected Taako's voice: "Welcome to Chez Taako, darlings, let yourselves in." His apartment was on the third floor so Barry and Lup took the stairs, opening the door to see Taako flopped on an armchair reading a book. He put iit down as soon as he heard the door and ran over to hug them.
"Ooh, whatcha reading?" asked Barry. "Some book Merle gave me, I don't really get what it's about. Most of the stuff at his shop is weird, but all the plants are somehow always in perfect condition." "That reminds me," said Lup, "I was going to ask if you wanted to invite Magnus and Merle to hang out with us sometime. They seem pretty cool, and we have more spots open in our video game tournaments." Taako bristled and glared at her. "Fuck no!" he snapped. "They're two guys that happen to work next to me that I eat lunch with sometimes. Hardly the same category as my sister and my brother in law, don't you think?" "Jesus, Taako, you could just say you don't want to, calm down." He collapsed onto the armchair again. "I'm sorry, Lulu. I guess I'm just a bit on edge."
Lup went to sit criss cross on the floor next to the chair, and Barry sat on the futon. "Why, what's up, bud?" she asked gently. "Why not?" He gave her a tired smile. "Shit, I was supposed to order food for us already, wasn't I? Sorry, guys." Barry stood up and grabbed his phone. "No worries, Taako," he reassured. "We all have those days, I'll do it. How's Chinese?" The twins nodded gratefully, as much as the three of them were a family and Barry and Lup were a couple, Barry was good at reading when they needed their own moments as well. "Hairbrush, Taako?" "Should be on the dresser."
Returning with it, Lup scooted Taako off the chair onto the floor right in front of it, and she sat in the chair, putting her legs around him. She silently began to brush his hair, and when it was perfectly soft and smooth, she braided it too. They had done this a million times, it almost always worked to help Taako relax. When Lup needed the same, her and Taako sat across from each other on the floor and held each other's hands, and he instinctively knew how much pressure he needed to squeeze with. But Lup was helping him right now, so he got up, still without a word, and sat on her lap. They held each other until Barry said the food was good to go and asked if they wanted to play Mario Kart. The rest of the evening passed like it always did: easy, comfortable, and filled with laughter. The next day at the bakery, the stranger returned, and did so for the rest of the week. He and Taako chatted every time; Taako learned that his name was Kravitz and he worked at some kind of therapy place nearby. On Friday, he slipped a business card in the paper bag, but it had his own phone number written on the back.
"Have a good weekend, Kravitz! Hopefully I'll see you again!" he called as his new favorite customer opened the door to leave. Kravitz smiled. "You too, Taako. I'm sure you will." As soon as he left, Taako ran into the freezer and screamed. "I'm sure you will"?! What did that mean? Was it good? He thought so, but he wasn't quite sure, and now he had all weekend to worry about it. Or not, honestly, this was ridiculous. He wasn't a middle schooler with a silly crush, he was just providing good service at his job and a new regular said he would be back, that was all it was. Definitely just that for sure. He took a deep breath, realized he was still in the freezer, and quickly left it to warm up and continue his day. When the bakery closed, Taako texted Lucretia: exhibit tonight? always more fun when you can show me around <3 We already have an event booked tonight :( Tomorrow at noon? sure thing, thx lucretia!
Well, that was something for tomorrow, but he was left with no plans for tonight. He thought back to what Lup said, maybe it would be a good idea to hang out with Magnus and Merle more. It wasn't like he had to tell them his life story, but the amount of time he spent alone probably wasn't great, as much as he liked to try and convince himself otherwise. Did he even have their numbers? That could be a goal for next week Taako, and apparently tonight Taako was going to get drunk alone. A classic Friday night activity. He just needed to get home and make it to tomorrow. You'd be surprised how hard that could be. However, to his surprise, after his first glass of wine, he got a text from an unknown number. It read: Do I have Taako? This is Kravitz "Holy shit, that actually worked," he thought. yep it's me ✨ You know you could have just asked for my number i figured a little surprise would be more fun! Taako couldn't believe this was happening, he pushed the bottle of wine aside and laid down on the futon. He definitely did not want to end up drunk texting right now. His instinct was to tell Lup right away, but he decided to wait and see where things went. You're right, I think you're very interesting, Taako um thanks?? Yes, it's a compliment, I don't get to choose who I talk to all day at my job, so I'm quite selective outside of it huh well that's something in common i don't talk to a lot of people either but idk if we're coming from the same place on that one…anyway what's your job like, what happens at a therapy place? Well, I'm actually specialized in grief counseling, so I help people through a lot of heavy stuff dude how do you deal with that i could never You just have to be able to leave work at work, it was hard at the beginning but I've had a lot of practice impressive that makes sense though you seem like a good listener hey i need to go make dinner ttyl? Yes, I'll be here, this was nice
Success!! Texting wasn't the same as real life interaction, but this was a good start for sure. Taako suddenly felt full of energy, he practically skipped around the kitchen getting everything out for beef stroganoff. In his apartment, several blocks away, Kravitz was in a similarly good mood. His roommate, Lucas, saw him looking down at his phone and smiling and asked, "Talking to someone, are we?" with a knowing smile. "None of your business," he retorted, and jokingly stuck his tongue out at him. Taako's text reminded him that he hadn't eaten yet either, but he honestly hadn't even been thinking of that. All day, as soon as he had seen the card left in his bag, he had just been waiting to be able to get home and send that first message. He was rarely so distracted, especially with his line of work, but there was just something about Taako that stuck in his mind and stayed there. His reverie was interrupted by Lucas's voice from the kitchen: "I made stuff for tacos, but if you don't get in here, there won't be any left!"
The next morning, Taako woke up excited to go see the exhibit with Lucretia. He had actually forgotten what it was even of, but that would just get to be a surprise! Once he had selected his museum outfit (a pastel pink fuzzy sweater with a long swishy pleated skirt in an eggplant color with heeled boots and several gold necklaces) and gotten dressed, he sent a picture to Lup, as they often did with their fashion choices. lulu, fit check! ooh love it 🤩 you're up early for your day off though what's up? museum with lucretia yay that's great! have fun tell her i said hi :3 "Taako, you look gorgeous!" exclaimed Lucretia when he arrived at the front desk. "And perfect timing, things aren't too busy yet. Let's go!" They strolled through the Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition, marveling at bones, flowers, and desert landscapes, all painted in bright colors and blue strokes. "Which one is your favorite, Lucretia?" "I like the bone paintings the best, I know the flowers are her most popular works, but I love how she also found beauty in the morbid and unconventional. Most people would consider an old bone too boring to even give it a chance as their subject. What about you?" Taako paused to think.
"Probably The Sky Above The Clouds. The different perspective is oddly peaceful." Lucretia nodded. "So much of her work has a sense of solitude, but not loneliness," she observed, and he knew what she meant, but not what the feeling was actually like. When they reached the end of the gallery, Lucretia had to go give a talk, but Taako had nothing else planned, so he wandered to the sculpture garden and sat at one of the small tables. He absentmindedly pulled out his phone to check his messages, and then decided to text Kravitz. hey handsome are you free at all today? Ten or fifteen minutes later, a reply came. Oh, handsome? Thank you very much, and I'm going to a concert later tonight if you want to come? yeah i'm down! who is it? My friend Johann's band, they're called Voidfish and he's the violinist oh, i've never heard of them but that sounds cool Kravitz sent him a location and time to meet, and he figured this was probably enough to tell Lup about now.
luuuppp guess whatttt what taako? i think i'm going on a date? i'm not sure if it's a date but this guy i've been talking to invited me to a concert tonight! omg! you didn't even tell me you were interested in someone, rude, but i'm so happy for you hey now! i was waiting to see where it went and it still might not be anything that's true, but taako, you deserve to have fun with someone you like, it's been a long time, so try to just stay in the moment and take it as it comes, okay? what are you lulu, our mom? oh wait lmao haha very funny, seriously though i'll try, love you love you Not sure what to do with the rest of his time before meeting for the concert, Taako took the long way back to his apartment, enjoying the feel of the air and taking in his surroundings in a way he never really had before. When he got back, he decided to take a nap so he would be ready for the potential late night out.
At his apartment, Kravitz was also carefully selecting his outfit for the evening. He wore the same thing to work every day: black pants, a white button down, and a red tie, so he never had to worry about it getting ready in the mornings, but this was a weekend and a special occasion at that. He settled on a band shirt Johann had given him at the last concert and his dark blue denim jacket covered in a large collection of raven patches and pins. The dark and eerie birds had always fascinated him. Sitting on his bed, Kravitz took a deep breath. Normally, he wouldn't make plans like this so spontaneously, but there was something about Taako that oddly put him more at ease. It was certainly a new and strange feeling, but not an unwelcome one. He quickly texted Lucas saying that he would probably be out late, and headed for Bumbershoots to meet Taako. Since Kravitz lived closer, he arrived first, but he only had to wait about five minutes for his companion.
"Hey, Kravitz!" Taako called. "You look stunning!" "I could say the same for you," Kravitz replied as he took Taako's hand and they entered the bar together. Voidfish played a great show, and Johann was amazing on the violin, but the baker and the therapist spent most of the evening simply focused on each other. They sat at a table in the back drinking cocktails (old fashioned for Kravitz, blackberry bramble for Taako) and talking for the whole show. Kravitz told Taako the names of the different songs as they were played, and Taako critiqued the band's outfits like he was a famous fashion designer, which made Kravitz laugh more than he had in a while. When the show ended, they paused outside the building, unsure what to say and neither one wanting to leave. Taako looked at Kravitz and asked, "Was this a date?" "I think so," Kravitz smiled as he replied. They both started laughing and pulled each other into a hug. As he continued to visit Taako at the bakery, Kravitz started to find extra items in his bag, usually new recipes being tested out. No matter how wild something sounded, it always ended up being delicious. He recommended Sweeten It Up with Taako to all his clients and Coworkers. One Friday afternoon, he got an unusual text from Taako.
hey krav, do you want to come over? my place is nothing much, so don't get your hopes up, but i'd love to have you It would be my pleasure, Taako, and don't worry about any of it okay? Taako sighed with relief. He still hadn't had anyone but Barry and Lup over to this apartment, but this could be the chance to make what he really wanted of it. Some of the decorations from his last place were still in a box, and he decided to get them back out; stringing the fairy lights up around the living room, hanging the pride flag on the wall, and putting the vase of fake flowers on the coffee table. It almost looked like someone lived here now, and like someone else would want to visit. He smiled and went to the kitchen to start getting dinner ready. When Kravitz arrived, he brought a fancy bottle of champagne with him, which he offered to Taako upon opening the door. "Kravitz! You didn't have to do that! This stuff is really nice too, oh my gosh…but since we have it, I think it'll go perfect with dinner. Since I forgot to ask what you wanted, I hope pizza is good." "That's excellent, yes." They had a delicious meal of Taako's signature homemade pizza, including dough made by hand (of course) and fresh mozzarella cheese, and glasses of sweet, refreshing champagne. Afterwards, they watched some terrible movie that was on TV, cuddling and making fun of it the entire time. As the credits finally rolled and Taako reached for the remote, Kravitz stopped him, taking both of his hands and staring into his warm brown eyes. "Can I kiss you?" he asked in a low voice, serious and sincere. "Yeah," Taako whispered without hesitation, surprising himself. The kiss was perfect, tender yet intense, warm and hungry. It wasn't just one either, they pulled away, smiled at each other and agreed with just their eyes, and then they were making out the best either of them had ever experienced. Being in one another's arms and pressed into each other's bodies was such a comfort that it more than made up for the old futon they were on. For a moment, there were no clients or macarons or roommates or sisters or anything else in the world but Kravitz and Taako and their hearts and bodies. Finally, Taako rested his head on Kravitz's shoulder, lazily looking up in his direction. "So, are you my boyfriend now or what?" Kravitz just smiled and pulled him in for another kiss, and they both understood that meaning perfectly.

[未保存] Unsaved — Yuta.
Tumblr media
Genre: angst, fluff, ex-lovers to lovers, some smut in the end, non-idol AU.
Pairing: fem!reader x ex-boyfriend!yuta.
Word count: 4k.
Summary: You and Yuta accidentally met on the beach near your house, on an autumn day, when you were walking your dog on a short walk in the late afternoon. There were numbers exchanging, video calls that lasted hours, things that sparked the beginning of your relationship. On your three-year anniversary, things changed dramatically: both of you decided it was necessary to take care of yourselves instead of trying to resolve the constant fights. But two years and a half later, you meet him again in a similar way you two met for the very first time.
Warnings: mild language, smoking, reader was dealing with some hephaphobia (the fear of being touched) problems by a traumatic past experience (she was harassed in public), yuta’s parents are kinda xenophobic. this is a sad plot that can trigger you if you’re a very sensitive person.
a/n: this is my first one-shot and idk yet if there will be any sequels, english is not my first language so i’m vvv sorry if there’s some orthographic errors or something like that. also, i’ve already suffered from the described phobia so I know what i’m talking about here tho. hope u guys enjoy!
Tumblr media
You can remember it so damn well, like it was last night. It was hard not to feel humorless, and know you’re not imagining things. It was hard to be told to lighten up because if you lighten up any more, you’re going to float the fuck away. Every single little thing reminded you of how he would smile at you, how he used to grab carefully both sides of your face and whisper that everything was going to be okay in its time. And you also remember that you couldn’t take it anymore.
You were happily going on a walk with your dog Hypo at the empty pretty beach right in front of your family house when you saw someone a little further on. Curiosity invaded your mind, all the late afternoons you were in that place embraced by the sea and the sand made you question that boy’s presence. At that time you never saw anyone around, usually the beach was so calm that the only sounds present were the footsteps of your dog’s paws and the singing sea waves. Getting a little closer, you noticed that he had a cigarette landed lightly between his lips while his both hands were hid in his pockets. His long black locks covered some of his vision: he was stood by the water’s edge looking at the horizon. And you’d even say that the view from the horizon was beautiful, but in that moment you realized that he was even more handsome.
You never imagined that the beach boy, Nakamoto Yuta, would become your future boyfriend. After several hours a day in video calls non-stop, after gradually meeting the brunette, you eventually fell in love. You were head over heels for him. More than anyone else he respected you, listened to you and understood you. And that was the case for over two years of relationship. In the last half of the second year you started fighting more often. You might consider yourself a workaholic, but you didn’t want to admit that sometimes you took up your free time with work stuff and denied being with Nakamoto more than it was supposed to.
You were so quiet watching the mysterious guy, your hand in Hypo’s leash lost strength gradually. And, as a good happy doggo, he ran into the tall male figure. You only noticed it when you saw the guy thrown over the sand while letting out laughs thanks to Hypo. Trying to control the awkward feeling that made the apples of your face warm up, you approached them in a hurry, calling for the little white samoyed with a funny worried expression. And the rest is history.
As time went on, things got worse and messy, so when your three-year anniversary came around you two decided that it would be best for you to break up. Yuta was the one who initiated the matter, honestly he seemed cold about it and wasn’t showing a lot of clear emotions at the moment. But you didn’t hesitate to agree because you knew it was definitely not healthy at all to keep a relationship like that. And yeah, that’s it. It was over.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the relationship, there was a big problem with the japanese family. Your mother-in-law never liked you, and neither Yuta’s father. Both of your boyfriend’s parents agreed that it would be better for him if he dated a japanese woman or someone studying medicine like him, not someone like you who worked in a small, unrecognized painting studio. Yuta used to fight with his parents about that issue and when he arrived at your place he would unintentionally take out part of his anger on you.
That day you left Nakamoto’s apartment in the middle of the night while your face was holding a good amount of tears. Usually he would drive you home so you wouldn’t go alone, but there was no turning back. When you were walking down a dark street near the center of the town, a group of men who had just left a bar spotted you as an easy target. Stealthily and silently they followed your footsteps, your mind was too full and confused to notice those three guys. Two of them grabbed each of your arms tightly and pushed you against a wall, not letting you go. The other, the tallest one, glued his body to yours: one hand squeezed your neck so you wouldn’t make any noise and the other caressed the inside of your right thigh. When they saw your bloodshot eyes shed tears of despair they just burst out some laughing. Those were the longest, most horrendous five minutes of your whole fucking life, and would have been more if the police not happened to be passing by. Pushing them and running away as fast as possible, you didn’t even want to talk to the cops who saved you. You just went back to your house and took a hasty shower to get any touch from those sick people away, crying all night after that.
Eventually your family and some of your friends found out about it, including Yuta, who blamed himself for not driving you home. But he never really commented on the matter with your common friends, he preferred to refrain from addressing a single word to you because he believed he was not worthy of such a thing. You developed hephaphobia thanks to the traumatic episode and it took more than a year of therapy and psychological support for you to even be able to hold your friends’ hands.
Fortunately time has done its work and after two and a half years here you are, in your own painting studio and in greatly improved health, being able to make more physical contact with the people you are close to, even if sometimes you get a little nervous. Filling a blank, empty canvas with life and colors simply took any, if not all, bad feelings out of you. It was your own therapy, and that’s what helped make you who you are today. A strong and pretty independent woman.
Speaking of paintings, you just noticed that the purple paint was gone and you needed it to complete the lavender flowers that danced on the canvas. As it was still 6pm, you knew you still had an hour to get yourself a purple paint palette at your favorite store, so you took off your apron and washed your hands thoroughly before leaving the studio and locking the doors.
The path wasn’t very wide, and the sunset turned the sky into pleasant orange hue. You made a mental note to yourself to paint this someday. After a few minutes, you looked to your left side and remembered the path you took to your old house: the beach was there. And, suddenly ignoring the time you had to buy the purple palette, you smiled excitedly and ran to your favorite spot since ever.
When you were near the water’s edge you kicked off your shoes and sat on the comfortable sand, closing your eyes and inhaling the all-too-familiar scent of the sea. It was just too good. The sea possesses a power over one’s moods that has the effect of a will. The sea can hypnotize. Nature in general can do so, and maybe that’s why it is the only thing you ever painted. Anne Frank once said “the best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quite alone with the heavens, nature” and you totally agree with that.
The truth is, you have no idea how long you’ve had your eyes closed enjoying the aroma and sound of the sea. Probably 30 minutes, or 20 minutes… You don’t really know and you don’t have much interest in knowing. But it was enough minutes for you not to be alone anymore.
“See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me”, so suddenly, a voice that seemed to weigh with tiredness and the smell of a mint cigarette were present in the field of your senses. “No one knows how far it goes”.
It couldn't be. It shouldn't be.
For a few seconds of silence and nervousness, your eyes insisted on keeping closed, not wanting to believe the familiarity of the voice you just heard. Neither your eyes, neither your heart.
When courage invaded your deepest veins, accompanied by a fresh sea breeze, your vision turned active again and there you were looking at the left side of your body. Legs. The person next to you was standing, but you didn't have to look up to know who that voice belonged to. The obvious has never been so painful before.
Suddenly all the progress you'd painstakingly made over the past two and a half years seemed to regress a little slowly in a excruciatingly way. The memories of the ocean that hovered in your mind were solemnly replaced by laughter, holding hands, kissing and whispering. And all of that belonged to a single person. Trying to forget really doesn't work. In fact, it's pretty much the same as remembering. But in all these years you tried to forget anyway, and to ignore the fact that you were remembering it all the damn time.
“Mi hozon”, the japanese words were spoken in a husky, low tone by the person next to you. Soon he was sitting there, but keeping a respectable distance. Your head didn't dare change the angle as you watched the lateral of his face. The black locks now had a pretty shade of brown that reminded you of the trunks of autumn trees.
“What?”, your question could sound pretty ridiculous to both of you: he knew you couldn't understand japanese, and besides, your voice was immensely shaky. Your body couldn't keep the little tear that danced slowly down one of your cheeks. There are wounds that never show on the body that are deeper and more hurtful than anything that bleeds.
“Unsaved”, he said breaking the seconds of silence once again. Nakamoto Yuta was now staring you straight into your wet eyes.
More silence. Your cry did not echo strongly, it was silent and careful. Maybe you were a little too stubborn with yourself, you didn't want to totally collapse around him after you'd finally managed to recover from that day. From that trauma. It wasn't his fault, but you knew he carried it with him anyways. Your whimpers, whispered in sobs, were at this low volume not only for that reason tho: you would never dare interrupt the melody of the waves in such an intimate moment.
“I didn't save you”, he was calm, but the pain he was controlling was apparent. “I didn't save us neither”.
“Bad things happen-...”
“Always with the ones who don't deserve it at all, Y/N”, the taller one was now using both hands for support behind him. Not escaping your sight, you saw his long, beautiful digits dug into the sand as he pressed them down hard. “All I cared about was you and I did nothing after they told me what happened with my girl. I didn't have the courage to face you, I was a coward who got carried away by emotions and not by the reason. Apologies shouldn't be asked, they should be avoided. They're not a good sign. So why do I feel so fucking wrong about this?” because he loved you more than anyone before. Because he still love you.
You took a deep clean breath and wiped your face with the back of your hand, It was possible to feel all his confused emotions that were in those deep words. Trying not to get too deep into the subject, you ignored his lines. “How's life?” Again, your voice sounded weak. And even if you wanted to, you couldn't hide that fact. But Yuta knew you so well that if you decided to hide it he sure would know about it with no doubts.
Before giving you a verbal response, your ex-boyfriend took another drag on his mint cigarette. “My parents are dead”, there was no remorse or pain in that sentence. “They did a lot of shit to me so I don't really miss them. I'm only here in Seoul temporarily, i'm living in Japan because of work”.
“I see”, you couldn't blame Yuta for not being saddened by the loss of his parents. You more than anyone knew they were never decent people. They were prejudiced, stubborn, they just wanted to know about the family's financial stability.
“Honestly, I didn't believe that I would never see you again. But that would be the most likely option, right?” and it was. Or at least, you hope it was, unless you were just lying to yourself.
The atmosphere between the two of you wasn't uncomfortable, but it was unusual and a little awkward. The maritime melody occupied the scene for a few more minutes while you thought about what you should say, or if it was not necessary to exchange more chat. By now you should know enough about loss to realize that you never really stop missing someone: you just learn to live around the huge gaping hole of their absence. But now he was there. Right by your side. And your heart wasn't at the planned pace.
“Yuta-”
“Y/N.”
A clash of simultaneity between your names broke the lull. Determined to speak, your lips parted to continue talking but the process was interrupted again. A fluffy weight pushed your back slightly forward and it didn't take long for your face to feel something warm and wet caressing it. Four white paws traced the free little path between you and Yuta until they excitedly climb onto your lap.
“Hypo?!” you exclaimed, astonished at the size of the dog. Hypo was huge compared to earlier times, but the cute muzzle hadn't changed a bit. Wasting no time, you wrapped the friendly animal's body in your arms and hugged him longingly, mentally thanking him that he hadn't forgotten you. But then you stopped.
It was happening again.
What should you call this moment? A serendipity mixed into a nostalgia, or mixed into an epiphany. Something tells you that there will be another deja vu, but only this time, you’ll make it consciously. It's like you two were meeting again just like the very first time. But the situation was pretty different. And you didn't stop it even though your conscience knew what was happening. You could have chosen to walk away, to leave the beach the moment Yuta sat beside you on the cold sand lit by the orange sunset. And Nakamoto could have chosen to have lit his cigarette inside his car instead of going out to approach you when he saw you. Unlikely, both chose nostalgia. Both chose love.
The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And despite the serious expression that adorned Yuta's face, you knew his feelings were about to explode. He cared so much about you and he wasn't hiding it from your eyes.
After Hypo took some distance to continue exploring the beach, you and Yuta went back to staring at each other deeply. You could see an entire universe in his eyes, it was possible to decipher the words of his silence just by looking into them. And that's because you knew him too well even after two years and a half.
“Let me save us”, after tossing the unlit cigarette somewhere nearby, one of his hands came up to carefully cup the side of your face in a very slow and gentle movement. It barely touched you, as if it were a request for permission. “Let me take care of you, Y/N. I don't want this whole thing to mean absolutely nothing” he was talking about this meeting.
He was touching you so subtly. Strangely, you didn't feel nervous as you often did. Yuta's touch made you feel safe, your body was shaking from the feeling of adrenaline coursing through every corner of it. Not because of fear. You didn't fear Yuta, you were afraid of a repetitive void. That's what you were feeling.
“I'm not gonna make this something unsaved again, because again is practice, and practice is improvement, and improvement only leads to perfection”, when you didn't back down and didn't show any alarming negative signs, the young japanese men allowed himself to continue, holding your face tighter. He started a simple caress with his thumb over your cheekbone while you laid your head on his big hand.
“Nothing is perfect, Yuta” your sentence entered the taller boy's hearing smoothly, and he already had the answer on the tip of his tongue.
“I know, we were never perfect in all those years. I made some mistakes, you made mistakes too”, you two were physically closer. Now he was holding your face with both hands. Slowly, the centimeters were decreasing. “Who's stopping us besides ourselves?”
Usually when you become aware of your heart, you want it to stop beating. You feel like you need a break from the constant rhythm, a rest. Now, your heart was beating so hard, you felt like you had an earthquake inside of your body. It was weighing you down and your hands were shaking with the need of safety and comfort. But Yuta was giving it all. You placed your hands on his, your breaths were ragged and a little hastily messed up. They were mixing.
“I miss you” you said in a whisper, sadness taking your senses. “And i'm afraid”.
“I miss you and i'm not afraid of loving you again”, The truth is that he never stopped loving you, but he didn't need to explain it in words because he knew you understood it just by looking and by his gestures. Unable to hold out much longer, Yuta left a short, light peck on your lips, keeping a useless distance after that. Your mouths touched superficially.
Your hands moved to the shirt he was wearing and tightened on the fabric covering his chest. A longer kiss was about to ensue, but you preferred to wrap yourselves in a tight hug. When the right person hugs you, it's like medicine. You're grateful for those few people in your life who are good for your soul, and you're even more grateful of being able to do it again.
Maybe the universe really did make its choices. You shouldn’t waste your time in anger, regrets, worries, and grudges. Life is too short to be unhappy. And felt safe with him. It has been said, 'time heals all wounds'. You honestly do not agree. The wounds remain. In time, the mind, protecting its sanity, covers them with scar tissue and the pain lessens. But it is never gone. The wound left by that horrible episode translated into the trauma that settled in you, and it hasn't gone away. It's getting better, you're healthier, but it still there even if it's weaker. However, this does not only apply to the bad part. Your love for Yuta also never went away even after so long.
Perhaps one day, all those past conflicts will end. It'll be because you both have changed. In life, we make the best decisions we can with the information we have on hand. And we receive new information every day. The information you are receiving now, in the exact moment you hug Yuta, comes straight from your heart. It says you've found your safe point once again.
“I have my own medical office in Japan, and the place is big. It has free space”, your thoughts flitted for you to pay attention to Nakamoto's words. “You could use that space to make your art studio, y'know...”
Your throat let out a short laugh, you took advantage of the situation to pull away and wipe your face. The atmosphere was lighter. “I don't have the courage to leave the beach”.
“I don't have the courage to leave you”, wrapping his strong arms around your waist, he buried his face in the crook of your neck where he left a subtle bite.
The only things that kept you in town were the beach you loved so much and your studio. Yuta knew that one of your big dreams was to travel abroad, as you had never done that before.
“I'm serious, Y/N” he continued. “I want to fulfill all our old plans and live a pleasant nostalgia by your side. I'm financially stable, I can pay for your ticket if you need to. You know I'll do anything to help”.
No matter how generous the offer, you would decline. You worked for your own money and you were willing to use it for that. But yes, that means you really wanted to go to Japan with Yuta. You knew when he was being honest or truthful with you, and he always was to this day. Now it would be no different. Some beautiful paths can't be discovered without getting lost, and you've been lost for the last few years. It's time for you to find a beautiful and safe path next to Yuta.
“I'll think about it. But if I go, I can pay for myself. Let's just... be patient and stay calm. Something unsaved can be bad, but being unhurried will save it”. As the last ray of sunlight illuminated the young lover's brown eyes, you calmly held his hand and intertwined your fingers with his.
Yuta flashed a smile that shot an arrow through his heart before holding your chin with his free hand, touching your noses and foreheads. “May I?” he asked gently.
There was no hesitation in your senses, you were no longer trembling. Yuta felt like home. And so, you close the small distance and give him a pure kiss. One of those who shows will, affection, determination. The gesture of the amorous embrace seems to fulfill, for a time, the subject's dream of total union with the loved being: The longing for consummation with the other. You missed this and you thought you didn't. But now you don't need to hold it back.
Your chest was rising and falling in a hurry, your breathing, despite the lack of it, wasn't making you feel uncomfortable. Yuta still let you breathe sometimes. He was pressing your body against the front door of your house, one of his hands was gripping your neck in a strong and harmonious way, it was such a perfect fit. Meanwhile, Nakamoto's free hand was pretty busy in the free space between your thighs.
Both of you were totally soaked in salt water, your clothes stuck to your skin. During the final time on the beach, Yuta picked you up and threw you both into the water while roaring with laughter. As a result of that, you ran to your old beach house, which you still had the keys to, and the moment you entered Yuta decided to kill all the missing feeling he had for you.
You were a moaning mess. After moving your panties to the side, his fingers spared no effort. He moved two fingers between your wet walls at a fast speed, whispering sweet nothings in your ear. “Talk to me, baby”, in all the years you've been together, you've never heard Yuta's voice in such a sensual and dangerous tone.
You shook your head several times, you had enough knowledge of your own body to know that you wouldn't be able to formulate a complete sentence. As a consequence of that stubborn act, the rhythm of Yuta's fingers became faster and stronger.
“Alright, doll. I'll make you talk if that's the case. You just need to promise me something”, withdrawing his fingers from your tight interior, he raised his hand to his lips while keeping his eyes fixed on yours. His velvety tongue roamed over the length of his long digits, cleaning the remnants of your essence. And still without taking his eyes off you, he pulled back a little just to unzip his pants.
“There's no turning back now.”

• I wanted to do something if Y/N had a son with Eugene in this fanfic Y/N's last name is Horvath I hope you guys like it :3
Tumblr media
One afternoon at the Hilltop you were resting after a long clear day you didn't do any physical exertion,Also because Eugene wouldn't let you carry any weight, he always said "The books say that pregnant women can't do much effort and that any kind of movement or very strong effort can affect the baby" Looking ahead you see Eugene reading more of the pregnancy books you have no idea where he found so many books,Everything was normal until you feel a strong contraction, at that moment a cold wave goes up your spine, a huge pain settles in your abdomen making you fall out of your chair.Eugene, who heard the sound of you falling, ran towards you, holding you, preventing you from falling to the ground, you saw a transparent liquid run between your legs.you knew the moment you were going into labor.
- Eugene! We need to go to the sidqui now!!
Those words came to Eugene like a waking slap across the face, and in a moment, he took you in his arms bridal style and carried you to the sidqui medical wing.Upon arriving there sidqui quickly asks to put you on the stretcher.
- How is Eugene contractions?- sidqui asks as he sanitizes his hands
- Every five minutes but I think it's going to three- Eugene pulls out a chair to sit next On your side.
Rosita soon shows up at the door with hot water and some blankets, you didn't know how she knew but she was there to help sidqui,You feel more massive contraction in your abdomen which makes you scream,Sidqui examines you he realizes that the birth process will not be so smooth.
- She is not dilating I will have to do a cesarean, Rosita call Enid and Eugene you have to leave the room for now..
-I'm sorry but I can't leave my loved one in this critical situation...- he squeezes yours tighter as he looks affectionately at you
- Eugene as it's a cesarean can't have many people in the room, for Y/N's own sake you need to leave..
Eugene looks at you once more you realize he's very worried, he takes a strand of hair from your face and puts it behind your ear, he kisses you on your forehead.
-i'll be across the room please be strong...for me and our baby..i love you
You smile at him and see him leaving and giving you one more look before closing the door, because of the pain you weren't able to talk, Enid soon entered the room and sidqui had to cut her belly, during the pains the screams you lost consciousness for a few moments.during this a memory came to your mind.
-Y/N Y/N!! Are you listening to me?- Abraham sits next to you while the two of you are watching the sunset from the porch.
- Oh sorry Abraham I was thinking of something..- You take a sip of your beer
- May I know what is making you so thoughtful?Let me guess Eugene?- He gives a sarcastic laugh
-Very funny, actually I was thinking about Glenn Maggie... Damn they're really going to have a baby in this world where fighting to live is as normal as the sunset...- You lower your head looking at the beer bottle analyzing glass container.
- I know it sounds confusing now..but honestly even I'm thinking about having kids with Sasha...
It surprised you you knew he'd been a father before this world turned to catastrophe, but he's never talked about it before,He looked at your face and saw that you were going to say something about the past.
- I know what you're thinking, but I've been talking to Sasha and I really want to be a dad again..I miss having kids playing in the house or them being a pain in the ass..-he lets out a light laugh as he takes another sip of his homemade beer
-I'll warn you, I'm not going to take care of any children, I imagine Abraham's puppies hahaha
- you would love them I know, actually you would be their godmother and Eugene could be godparents I've seen you with children.. you never thought about that ?
You really never stopped to think about it, the world was too chaotic to think about having children, of course you and Eugene had sex (A lot by the way) but you always took precautions,But you definitely didn't want to have kids at that point but you didn't know about Eugene.
- I don't think about having children not now, at least, did Eugene tell you something?
Abraham stared at you for a few until he opened his mouth.
- one night we were drinking while on patrol, he told me he wanted to have a baby with you... he told me about his childhood and that he wanted to be the best father and husband..
- Do you think he said that because he was drunk? He never mentioned this to me..- At that moment you start to look at the stars that were appearing in the newly dark sky.
-Well I don't know but it would be interesting to see our children growing up together, and especially a son of Eugene hahaha the boy or girl would need a protector- He puts his hand on your shoulder while laughing, you also laugh imagining a little boy or girl being protected by an angry red haired child.
- It would be really fun, you know, I think we're going to have more peaceful years now..-You rest your head on Abraham's shoulder and he hugs you-You are my best friend Abraham, I'm glad to be your friend..
-me too y/n that's why you need to be strong... and wake up..-he looks at you with a comforting look as if he is saying goodbye.
Tumblr media
before you can say what the image of Abraham in front of you starts to blur, you see a flash and hear someone call your name the voice is familiar,You open your eyes and see your lover's eyes looking at you he was holding your hand, he had a worried look on his face you quickly remember what is going on and get up abruptly.
-Where's the baby?! He is fine ?! What happened?
- Y/n calm down everything.. is fine, you need to rest now, you ended up passing out in the c-section but everything went well thank God-He lays you down while covering you with some blankets.
Sidqui soon enters the room with a baby wrapped in a blue blanket, you were so happy you couldn't hold back your tears, Eugene was also thrilled He couldn't even believe you had his baby.
- Congratulations he is a beautiful healthy little boy- Sidqui says this as he delivers the baby to your arms-do you already have a name in mind?
You look at the baby and you see he has Eugene's beautiful blue eyes, when you looked at the baby he laughed like he already knew you,Before you can say anything Eugene interrupts you:
- I didn't expect it to be a boy, my calculations were that it was a girl I even thought of the names, Cecilia, Therese or Lux..-he looks at you and the baby and realizes that you already have a name in mind.- Y/N do you have a name?
You smile at him as you stroke the baby's head that was leaning against your chest.
- Abraham Horvath Porter..- did you see that tears welled up on eugene's face when you said that name you knew that Abraham was special to you both and that you wanted him to be there.
- I miss him.. I think he would like this tribute, let's call him Abraham so doesn't get too confused with two surnames..- he gives a crooked smile as he holds the hand of the baby who was peacefully resting.
- haha you always know how to make me laugh, welcome to the world Abraham.. you will hear many stories about your godfather..
You see the baby give a slight smile while sleeping, really Abraham would have liked to have seen that...

Over the Moon by Elissa Haden Guest
Tumblr media
I've presumably owned this book for a few years now, though I don't remember getting it. There's a price tag on the cover proclaiming it to be $.69, looking to be from the local thrift store. I think I chose this book both because it's short and also because I was intrigued by the summary.
The premise is that Katherine "Kate" Baker is a 16 year old girl who lives with her great-Aunt Georgia and her brother Jay. Four years ago her sister Mattie moved/ran away from home with her 28 year old boyfriend, Dean, greatly disrupting their lives (which were already disrupted, after the three kids lost their parents when they were younger and had to move in with Georgia). Kate feels an emptiness growing inside of her that she can't quench at home. She and Jay visit New York, where they used to live when their parents were alive, and they visit with an old family friend, Andy, and Mattie's old boyfriend, Will. While there, Kate proclaims her love for Will, whom she's had a crush on for almost as long as she's known him, and he gently rejects her, saying he's still in love with Mattie. The emptiness grows inside of Kate as she heads home. Shortly later, she receives a package in the mail - a beautiful handmade jacket with fringe, made by Mattie. Kate calls Mattie and asks if she can visit her, which Mattie agrees to. Kate travels and eventually she's pickpocketed at the bus station. A new boy, Max, comes to her rescue and offers her a ride, which eventually turns into a place to stay, which eventually turns into driving her almost all the way to her destination, minus a ferry ride, and all the while chemistry is growing between the two. They kiss before they part and then Kate is in Nova Scotia, at Mattie's house. She learns that Dean left Mattie and their ten month old daughter, Katherine, a.k.a. Kit, named after Kate. Kate tries multiple times to convince Mattie to return home with her, noticing the strain raising a child as a single working parent is taking on Mattie, but Mattie is resistant to the idea. Eventually, though, she agrees, and the three of them drive home. Aunt Georgia and Jay reunite with Mattie and Kate gets a love letter in the mail from Max and she feels whole once again.
I had relatively high hopes for this book. I either remembered reading it when I was younger, reading the synopsis and thinking it would be interesting when I was younger, or I was confusing it with another book for which one of those possibilities was true. Either way, it didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was still an alright book, but it felt like it had a really good/interesting concept that immediately fell flat, and that was almost entirely because of the Max plotline. I don't think romance had any place in this book. I think this book could have only been about familial love and it would've been much, much better.
Y'know, it's kind of funny to read this book as an adult and side with the adults. Georgia was right, Dean WAS too old for Mattie! I was so ready to side with Mattie about going with Dean, imagining he was saving her from her home life (which, in a way, he was), but Dean was 28 years old and Georgia was 16. That age gap is absolutely disgusting. The classic signs of grooming were right there: isolating the victim from their support network, getting the victim to trust them by giving them things like gifts or attention or sharing secrets, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they had sex while she was still a minor. He was an adult and he allowed her to run away with him. If I read this book when I was younger, then I can remember thinking the idea was so romantic, an older man falling in love with a charming teen girl and them running away together because her family won't allow them to be together, but now that I read it I just feel bad for Mattie.
I feel a few things for Will. I feel bad for him that he still loves Mattie and maybe he always will. I feel glad that he didn't fall in love with Kate. I feel suspicious that he didn't realize how he was sort of leading her on (although there is a possibility that Kate is a bit of a unreliable narrator, since she, you know, had a crush on him and her feelings were making everything kind of blurry). I feel angry at him because he never really understood what Mattie needed or felt. I feel understanding because he was a teenage boy who didn't know any better.
I highly empathized with Mattie for the entirety of this book, even at the beginning before we ever truly met her. I felt bad for her because her entire family was acting as if she had turned their back on them which, to be fair, I understand to an extent, but it still the whole story. I felt bad for her when Jay said he didn't care about her anymore, I felt bad for her when Georgia refused to speak about her, I felt bad for her when Kate couldn't understand her, I just felt bad for her, period. She was groomed by an adult into being a perfect girlfriend and then wife. She was under everybody's expectations. She was drowning with no land in sight. She was practically set up to fail. She was made out to be a bad guy in her family, when there was just about nothing that was truly her fault. Hell, even not keeping contact with her family wasn't really her fault - she was isolated from them and that same isolation, mixed with her pride, wouldn't allow her to contact them. If it weren't for a single moment of clarity by which she sent Kate that jacket, I wonder if she would've ever contacted them at all. To me, that kind of seemed like her last hope, like firing off a flare. I wonder if she would've caved to despair at some point if she hadn't.
Funnily enough, I had trouble empathizing with the family as a whole for their feelings towards Mattie, so I guess you can tell who I felt more connected to, haha. I understand logically their thought process - Georgia was angry, scared, and hurt that Mattie ran away (angry Mattie didn't listen to her and angry she herself wasn't able to stop her from leaving, scared that Mattie would get hurt or already had been and she had no way of knowing, and hurt that Mattie chose to leave instead of stay with family), Jay was embittered that she left, and Kate was confused, jealous, and angry (confused why she would leave and what she had to gain by leaving, jealous that Mattie got so much attention even when she was no longer with the family, and angry that she left in the first place thereby leaving a shadow where she used to belong), but I just can't feel as bad for them as I did for Mattie. There isn't really an observation about the book here, just an observation of myself and how I relate to it.
Y'know, there was one thing that I thought was really interesting about this book - the world. The book was copyrighted in 1986, only 11 years before I was born, and it's interesting to see how different things were back then versus how they are now. Now, granted, this is a YA book so the world is obviously going to be a bit more idealized than it really was, but it's interesting to see how... trusting people were. Kate senses no suspicious motives from the girl who pickpocketed her, and she felt comfortable driving with Max even though she had only known him for, like, an hour. Of course, part of that can be attributed to her age and to how sheltered she was in her life, but I don't think it's a stretch to admit that people weren't as scared of each other back then as they are now, especially considering that was right in the middle of the "Golden Age of Serial Killing" (1970-2000). It would be a dream to live in a world that trusting. I think if you were to bring me back there, I wouldn't know how to act. I might be even more scared of it than I am now. I might be even more wanting for it than I already am.
Max... ohhhh, what can I say about Max? He wasn't a bad character, truly. I thought his sister was somewhat interesting (I liked how she thought it was pathetic that her dad was marrying someone her age, though I didn't like how she blamed the girl for it). I appreciated that he, himself, pitied the girl his dad was marrying. I appreciated how he was kind to Kate and wanted to help her even though he didn't know her. His relationship with Kate was very cutesy and picturesque, but that relationship is also the biggest problem in the book. Their relationship went so easy it was kind of frustrating, but I guess it's not really the point of the book so it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of time on conflict within it. That said, I would've been impressed and kind of happy if they never got together, not because I wanted them to fail, but because I think it would've been fresh to read. Maybe it wasn't fresh back then (unsure), but it's fresh now. Anyway, the entire book acts as if it's going to really explore the relationship Kate has with Mattie and how it's affected her life, which it does to an extent, but... not enough, I don't think. It would have been fine if Max was just a roadblock character, one that we only spend a few minutes with and then move on, but he wasn't. We had a sizeable chunk of the book dedicated to him; 50 pages dedicated to Max and Kate's relationship to him, versus 40 for Mattie (I don't count the entirety of the book being part of Mattie's story, since although she's the catalyst for change and the driving factor, she isn't the main side character for most of the book). Listen, I like Max well enough, but I don't think he deserved that much of the book. Yeah, it allowed him and Kate to really get to know each other, but I was only interested in the book for Kate and Mattie's relationship. I think Kate could've liked Max, and the author could've set it up so that it was implied in the future they would find each other again or something, but I definitely don't think a large section of the book needed to be about Max. To me, in the end all he was was just a brick wall placed in the middle of the road. I had an idea in my head that it would've been interesting if Dean was Max's dad. I knew he wasn't, but I thought that would've been a fun connection to explore, one which might've been a good reason to give Max more pages. In the end, it just seemed like Kate's relationship with him healed her more than anything having to do with Mattie.
It was fun realizing so often just how young and immature Kate was. When she couldn't understand why Mattie couldn't go back home (fear, pride, and having built a life in Nova Scotia), or when she was angry at Mattie for not remembering the little things from when she and Kate still originally lived together (the speed of her life, having a child, willfully forgetting, having the memories forced out by Dean, etc.) and didn't understand how she could forget when they were things that were important to Kate, etc. I think the author did a really good job of making Kate a believable teenager with believable teenage thought processes. It was interesting, when Kate realized that Mattie's life wasn't romantic, but rather quite miserable, because I found myself questioning if she knew it wasn't romantic because it was a mature moment, or if she only thought that because she was angry at Mattie. And, later, Kate refused to see Mattie's side of things and why she might not be willing to go back home with her, nor would she listen when Mattie was all but vocally begging her to stop asking her to.
Mattie was easily my favorite character of the entire book. Yes, because I empathized with her and saw myself in her to a certain extent, but also just because of her life and struggle in general. I think the only thing I would've changed is that I would've made her still love Will, actual love, even if they were fated to never be together again. If, after everything that happened with Dean, she realized that she still loved him. It makes sense, of course, that she didn't, and I understand completely why she wouldn't, and in her shoes I probably would've felt the exact same, but perhaps that's the romantic in me. I loved that Mattie felt so overwhelmed by everyone's expectations of her that she felt she needed to run away as fast as she could, and how she (presumably) ran to Dean because he had no expectations for her other than to be his girlfriend. She had no friends left and she had no family she could turn to (besides her sister, for whom it was a wild guess whether or not she could talk to her) and she was raising her daughter all alone with only the occasional monetary support from her (ex?) husband and she had a job knitting sweaters on top of that. I just... really like her. I wish I was strong like her. I wish I was weak like her. Maybe I even wish I was her, scars and all.
In the end, it was a very rushed and anticlimactic ending. Part of this is, I think, because so much time was spent with Max, but also because things were so easy and fast to wrap up. Kate and Mattie had no trouble going back home and Georgia and Jay welcomed Mattie back pretty easily, even though they said some pretty mean stuff about them (which I will include the quotes below). I understand tears at the reunion, but we never got to see the big emotional blow up that was sure to be coming later. This book could've been a really interesting dive into the characters and their relationship with Mattie, showcasing a nice, complex way of viewing things, which it was... to an extent. But it fell short on the matter the longer the book went on. Sure, maybe this is on me for setting up these expectations on a YA book from the 80s, but I don't know... it sucks to see a good concept with not the best execution. I'm glad that Mattie went home in the end, but I'm not happy about the circumstances that surrounded it. It isn't that easy, and maybe it could or should be, but it just is not. Kate told Mattie to come home and it took less than a week to convince her, even though she had run away from home years ago and had built up a life in this new town. I really, truly think if the Max plotline was just taken out or, at least, reduced, it would've made the book infinitely better. A shame, to be sure, but not a huge surprise.
Quotes I enjoyed from the book:
-
"Sometimes I think if she was dead, this would still be happening. That somehow, even as a corpse, she'd still have the power to tear us all apart" - said by Jay.
-
"But I can't help feeling the way I do about Mattie. I hate her for leaving us, for making us feel like we were dirt, like we were something she had to get away from."
"Part of me hates her, too," I said. "For putting me in the middle all the time, for making everything so difficult. But it's been so long since I've seen her-- Don't you see, Jay, I don't know who she is anymore."
"Well, maybe that's the difference between us," he said softly. "Because I don't care who she is. I guess I just don't care anymore."
-
"It occurred to me that she had fled home thinking she might be able to drop the pain en route to someplace new. Thinking she might be able to scatter it from the back of a motorcycle in bits and pieces, like ashes."
-
Pretty enjoyable book in the end. Some grievances, but nothing too bad. 3.5-4/5 (erring towards 3.5).
My bookmark for this book was a neon yellow-green ribbon with knots tied at either end.

Moving again was kind of sad, even though we had only been in that apartment for a couple of months. We were really going to miss the twins. But guess what? They moved out shortly after we did, and we never heard from them again. It made me a little bit sad, but I hoped they were doing okay.
Our new place was close to the previous one. It belonged to Doctor Maher, who was famous for being really good at diagnosing illnesses and treating them in a holistic way. He had helped so many people with strange conditions.
The apartment was on Behjat Abad Street. And we were on the fourth floor. We made some new friends there, which was nice. The three girls who lived above us became our buddies. Their names were Carlet, Caroline, and Meghedi. They were Christian, and we all played together like sisters. Of course, we also fought like sisters sometimes, but that's part of being friends, right?
One day, while Mom was pouring tea and calling us, the four girls, to join her, we started talking about the elevator. We were imagining what would happen if someone got stuck in that creepy elevator and ran out of air. It seemed really scary!
Later, after we had finished playing in the yard, Liz and Carlet decided to go on the elevator. Our youngest sister, Ari, who was only 6 years old, wanted to join them, but Liz wouldn't let her. Suddenly, the elevator got stuck! Liz started screaming because she thought she was going to die, while Carlet was laughing. It was a crazy situation!
Ari, quickly ran up the stairs to tell Mom what happened. Mom and Carlet's mom called Dr. Maher, but they couldn't find him right away. So, they asked some workers from the street who were fixing something nearby for help. The workers came and broke into the elevator to get Liz and Carlet out. Phew, what a relief! Dr. Maher showed up a few minutes later, and he was mad that the elevator was broken now. Oops!
In the apartment below us, there was an older woman named Mrs. Naiebi. She was kind of stingy and always seemed to get in the way of our fun. When we were riding our bikes in the yard, she would yell at us and say we were interrupting her precious morning sleep. But it wasn't even that early! It was only 8 in the morning! She could be so grumpy sometimes.
My older sister Shabnam and I spent a lot of time playing in the apartment. One day, while we were playing hide and seek, someone knocked on our door. It was Mrs. Naiebi. She had her hand on her chest and was saying she almost had a heart attack from all the noise we were making. But the funny thing was, her hand was on the right side of her chest, and we couldn't help but giggle. We apologized and promised to be quieter, but she kept talking and talking. So, we quickly shut the door when she wasn't looking.
That was the last time I saw her, except for one time when she came at like 4 in the morning to complain to my dad about a leak in her kitchen ceiling. Dad went to check it out and told her to talk to the landlord about it. Then he went back to bed. The next morning, Dad and us four girls were getting ready to go to Ghamsar to stay with our grandparents for a little while. Mrs. Nairobi came out and started talking about her kitchen again. Dad, who didn't get a good night's sleep, lost his temper and started yelling at her. She looked really surprised, turned around, and walked away really fast until she disappeared. I haven't seen her since.
When we came back home from visiting our grandparents, we had a big surprise. Mom had given birth to a baby! We all got to help choose a name for her. I really wanted them to name her Foroozan, but I guess they had already decided on a name. They named her Melody. She's 2 years old now, and she's so cute!
We were moving again, and this time it was to another one of Mr. Monfared's apartments. This new place was in a fancy complex called Saman Apartments, located in the richest part of the city, Shemiranat. It was super cool because the complex had its own supermarket and really pretty gardens. Can you believe there were over 200 apartments there? Oh, and the hallway had this garbage burner thingy that I had never seen before. It was pretty fascinating!
Guess what? In our new neighborhood, I made some awesome friends like Sanam, Mahnoosh, Neda, and more. We would hang out together and every single afternoon, my dad would take us to the pool. It was the best! We would swim, play games, and just have a blast.
It was also a time when the government was changing, and things were kind of scary. They were taking away stuff from rich people if they were out of the country. And the Baha'is, oh boy, they were going through so much trouble. It was really sad to hear about the awful things happening to them.
My dad worked for Mr. Monfared and was managing his properties while he was out of the country. He took us to his house once. That place was something else! They had a super fancy car called a Porsche, and their house had this amazing basement with a huge pool. I was so amazed by it all. Mr. Monfared even had a garden in Karaj that he named after his wife. It was like a magical place. We would drive over a bridge, and the sound of the river and birds would make it feel so peaceful. We would go there and have so much fun.
There's this one memory that I can never forget. I was around 8 years old, and all I wanted to do was go swimming in the pool. I kept bugging my dad while he was talking to the gardeners. They told me to wait because the water was still too cold. But I just couldn't wait! So, I went to check it myself. But guess what? I slipped on a slippery tile near the pool and fell right in. I didn't know how to swim, and it was really scary. As I was struggling in the water, all I could think about was how pretty my light blue ruffled dress and the white tulle underlining looked flowing in a smooth and beautiful pattern.
To my absolute shock, Dad's hand reached down and yanked me out of the water. I was gasping for air and shivering from the cold. He smacked me on the bottom and scolded me, saying, "Didn't I tell you to wait?" I could tell he was really scared when he heard the splash. I let out a loud scream, grabbed my butt in pain, and ran inside the house as fast as I could.
Oh, and not too far away, close to the river, there was this little shack carved into the rocks. Next to it, there was a water mill. On the other side, there was a huge white swing that could fit all four of us, facing the river. The entry door to the shack was so small and had a beautiful arch shape. Inside, it was a bit dark with small arched windows overlooking the gardens. The walls were made of unfinished carved rocks, giving it a cave-like feel. And guess what? There was even a fireplace! If you climbed a few steps and turned around, there was a cozy bedroom. It had a large round bed with a red velvet cover and heart-shaped pillows. White tulle hung from the ceiling, making it look so magical. We all found this little house incredibly cute and cozy, but of course, we weren't allowed to stay there. It was just our secret little discovery.
There was this one time during winter when we went to get some local honey. But guess what? The heater in the house wasn't working, and we were freezing! It felt like icicles were forming on our noses and toes. Brr!
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you about the gardener! He was such a nice man. Sometimes, he would go down to the river and catch fish for us. He would take out the caviar if any, then he’d  barbecue it right there! The smell of the freshly cooked fish would fill the air, making our tummies rumble with hunger. We would all gather around, enjoying the delicious meal together. It was such a special treat, and the fish tasted so good, especially when we ate it outdoors, surrounded by nature. Those were some of the best times we had by the river.

On command.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
└ Pairing. Bonten! Kakucho Hitto.
└ Summary. Can’t stop thinking about Kakucho being always ahead of time when it comes to your safety… so he goes as far as to adopt 4 dogs.
└ Warnings. Cursing, non-graphic violence, fem reader as usual with the original ideas.
└ Note. I said this some time ago in one of those little games I play here but I want to elaborate because I can. Also, thank you @bbdaydreams for adding some hcs for this, I love them!

Imagine Bonten Kakucho being aware of all the problems he and his gang bring to the city and wanting to keep you on the sidelines of that at any cost.
That’s why he brings home not one but four puppies, and yeah, you’re happy because they’re the cutest. What you didn’t know is that Cane Corsos can grow up to look that intimidating.
Every day since they were puppies he would train them to be your guard and protect you.
They just follow his and your commands and that’s it. They can’t even identify Mikey’s voice.
They sleep with the both of you, on the floor of your room.
Because the penthouse is on a really high floor you usually don’t hear a lot of weird noises or your neighbors but there have been times where they happen to hear something they don’t recognize and they jump on the bed on top of you and your man, waking y’all up in the process. Yes, it’s difficult to breathe and no, they don’t get up until they’re satisfied.
“Good fucking boys…” Kakucho groans in a sleepy and raspy voice but happy as hell at the way the situation was being controlled.
When walking them you don’t even need leashes because they were taught to walk by your side and not give people's attention if they’re not sensing danger.
Talking about walking them; Kakucho takes break times just to really walk them since they are big guard dogs that need a lot of exercise. He would drive his old bike from when he was a teenager while they ran by his side at an inhuman speed.
One time Kakucho himself opened your shared penthouse door a little too rough and he almost lost his leg because they were about to jump his ass if it wasn’t because you stopped them.
He wasn’t mad, since he wants them to be able to protect you even from him in case one day he loses his damn mind. He adores you, but in his mind, he doesn’t even deserve an angel like you in the first place.
When in arguments, Kakucho tries to keep his voice neutral and low because one time y’all started yelling and the dogs started growling at him.
Matter fact, every time you are mad at him, funny as it sounds, they don’t let him get near you. You have to walk to him on those occasions otherwise he would’ve to sleep on the couch.
They had to call an ambulance one time because a low rank didn’t know you were the number three partner and thought it was a good idea to start degrading you, thinking you were one of their “little playthings”.
Kakucho saw this from a distance while the dogs were at his side.
“Watch.” Kakucho said in a certain cold tone that made Ran look at him with confusion but put the dogs on guard.
“Man, what are you—,” Ran is silenced by Kakucho’s shush at the dogs that had started to growl seeing a stranger close to you.
“Shh…”
And just in time, when he sees your determined face, he snaps his fingers and the dogs run to the man, biting his legs and taking him down. While the man is screaming in shock, Kakucho takes his time to walk to them, the little altercation giving y’all an audience. He nods at you.
“Stop.” You say, practicing the same tone he tends to use around them. And they do.
Kakucho looks at another low rank and shrugs.
“Her dogs are checked monthly, but call an ambulance if you want, I don’t give a fuck.”
“What the fuck did just happen?” Ran asks in shock, slightly stepping behind Kakucho, his superior offers his hand to you and starts to walk to the elevators, two of your dogs at your left and the other two walking in front of you. Ran follows you.
“They will make sure to intimidate disrespectful fucks so their mom can have a peaceful life,” Kakucho explains to his fellow gang member and friend.
“That’s what you've been doing all this time? Training them?” Both of you nod and Ran laughs. “What a badass!”
Kakucho looks at you and wink.

heya! can i request lots of lip gallagher angst please? i love what you write and need him in my life </3
Thank you so much! I'm not sure when I'll be able to make more Lip angst or Lip fic's, but I'll be sure to try when I get an idea. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this one. 💜
Lip Gallagher X Reader-Imagine trying to convince Lip that Helene, his professor, isn't the best thing for him, but he can't see the truth
Warning! Mentions of virginity and sex, but there is no actual smut. Slight fluff. Lots of Angst. Not sure if this has been done before. If it has, credit to them, and this is my version of it.
Smiles and laughs grace your best friend, Lip, and you can't help grin just because he seems happy. He tells you about his recent endeavors at college, specifically how he’s having the greatest adventures with his professor, Helene. When you 1st heard about this mysterious woman, you were initially livid, on the inside, of course. You wanted to know everything and nothing about her all at once. However, just like always you had to find a way within yourself to support Lip’s happiness. You always hold onto the friendship that’s graced the both of you with each other. Also, you couldn’t help internalizing Lip’s trauma's and emotions throughout the years. He deserved to go to school and become even greater than he already is, and although you couldn't always stomach the thought of him with someone else, you’d support that too to see him be loved. You were as it goes hopelessly devoted to Lip, so you hadn't really dated too much. Nothing could ever get serious when you’d hold him in your heart.
🖇
One day, you were at Lip’s dorm helping him clean up a bit when Lip seemed to really catch the fact that you'd apparently been single for “too long”. You scoffed at Lip and asked, “What’s that your business for?” He laughed at the comment and added, “I just want you to be happy. I mean we don’t get as much time these days. Me in college and with…” He smiled and looked off to space. You mouth her name as he says, “Helene.” You roll your eyes at it and shake your head and bitterly say, “I don’t need to be with someone to be happy.”
“I get that, but maybe you’d seem a little...a little...better?”
“Better?”
“You just seem a little down lately. Seeing as you won’t tell me what it’s about, I’m just trying to find an all around solution because I care.” His hand finding your shoulder.
”I’m doing fine, really. You're just so up in the clouds-”
“I want you up here too.” You sigh as the words are a rubber band to the heart as you wished he meant together...
“Lip, I don’t need someone.”
“It doesn't have to be serious. Just get laid.“ His insistent nature angers you to shout, “I can't! I’ve never-” You stop yourself too late. Your virginity has never been a topic of concern. You both just glossed over it. To you, it never seemed like Lip knew you hadn’t gotten that far, regardless, you never wanted it to be made so clear. Silence passed between you two before he started to laugh and said, “You’re fucking joking.” You looked down to your feet, which was when he actually believed your words. “No shit. No fucking way! You haven’t gotten laid yet!”
“Want to scream it out any louder! Shut the fuck up!” He laughed before he held his hands up in surrender.
“That’s crazy to me.”
“Of course it is. You bang anything that walks. Lip-”
“Even with any of your s/o’s, you never-”
“No! I'm a virgin. No big deal!”
“Yes. I just find it hard to believe nobody would try. Did they?”
“Maybe once or twice, and I shut them down.”
“Not good enough for you.”
“Something like that.”
“People are fucking stupid. You are hot, and it surprises me there aren't any more.”
“It's the story of my life.”
“What?”
“Getting overlooked.” You said simply before continuing to stack a book on a high shelf.
“Come on, that can’t be true.” He turns you toward him. “I see you unless I see dead people.”
“Haha.” You grin.
“I’m serious though. When you walk into the room, it’s brighter. Maybe you catch the attention of shy people. Maybe pay more attention?”
“Can we stop talking about it?”
“Yeah. Yeah.”
🖇
You were on your way home late at night when you got a call from Lip. You answered and immediately thought it was a bit late.
“Hey!” He said a little off.
“Lip, what’s up?”
“Just need a drinking buddy.” You hear a bottle crash on his side of the phone.
“You doing okay there?”
“Yup! Having the bez time.”
“You already started drinking without me. Where are you?”
“I think I’m on campus on like a lawn-can’t remember which one.”
“I’ll be right there. Stay on the li-” He hung up. You jumped a fence and ran all over campus with no sign of him, and he wouldn't take you calls. You finally found him toward the back exit of the campus. He was swinging his body silly with heavy footsteps. You rushed over to support him. Immediately, he detached himself. A pout on his face with slumped shoulders. “What’s wrong?”
“What’s wrong?” He laughs dryly.
“Come on, sit down.” You have him sit on the curb and wish you brought him a bottle of water or something. “What’s this about?”
“Helene...She’s married. She has a kid.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry. This must be shocking to hear-”
“I already knew.”
“What do you mean you knew?”
“These past few...weeks? Weeks, I think, I knew. Hell, her husband watched us-Well, watched us fornicate.”
“Gross.” You couldn’t help but say. He shrugged at your reaction, not really being able to defend that truth. “You agreed to it?”
“I did, but I feel her pulling away now. I haven’t changed anything though.” He turns quickly toward me like he’d get whiplash. He points his finger to his chest and hits his chest aggressively as he says, “I’m me! I’m still giving her everything I have!...It leaves me in a funk.”
“You want to be with her that badly?”
“Yeah.”
“But, it doesn't feel so good.”
“Right.”
“You know why?”
“Yeah. I just said she has-”
“I didn’t mean the family thing.”
“Then, why?”
“You should try a relationship that’s more meaningful.”
“This is meaningful to me.”
“I meant a healthy meaningful.”
“Who are you to tell me?” He said it harshly.
“You’re right. I have no right to tell you what’s meaningful to you. You have to admit you're not in the best situation.”
“You’re one to talk. You’d rather have nothing than search for something. I think your standards are too high.”
“Trust me, they're not that high… Top 3 are honesty, communication, and trust.”
“Hmm ...You want to tell me something?” He smirked.
“What do you mean?”
“I’m all three of those for you. I must be your dream guy.”
”You could be, except it wouldn’t happen obviously.”
“Are you sure about that?'' He found himself saying.
“Here we are talking about your women, I’m sure...” You bite at your lip. Your thoughts stop when you see a few tears branching out of his eyes. You comb your hand through his hair. As he looked for more comfort, he wanted to lay down. You convinced him to let you get him to his dorm. He allowed you that, and he cried himself to sleep on your lap. He snuggled into your leg while you rubbed his back. You’d already had a distaste for Helene, but now you really couldn't stand her. She’d been fooling Lip, and she still had the power to keep going along with it.
🖇
After the incident, Lip wanted to act like it didn’t happen. He had told you that they were working on it. He even said it might be the closest thing to a relationship he’s had. You wanted to be there for him, but you had to admit you couldn't support this harm. There is a difference in this case to supporting him. You didn’t want to be a part of any longer. You kept quiet about it initially since she’d only done “one” wrong by him, according to Lip. He talked to you less and less it seemed after it. You tried your best, but something always seemed to come up. You’d get calls from Ian or Fiona that he’s drinking a lot which worries you and hasn't attempted AA when they think it's becoming a big issue. Finally, you confronted Lip on the street.
“I can't talk now.” He said. You didn’t let him push past you and stated, “No. You are not ditching me once again. You have stuff going on. It probably has to do with that woman-”
“Helene. That's none of your business.”
“None of my business?” You look at the bag under his eyes. He reeked of alcohol on his disheveled clothes. “She’s ruining you, but that’s none of my business? What happened this time?” He took out a cigarette and lit it before he sniffed and gave you a side smirk.
“I just maybe happened to beat up her son after I thought she cheated on me with him. Isn't that funny?” He giggled and hiccupped.
“Why were you upset? You were fine when she had a husband to cheat on you with.”
“That was different. Anyway, I see you’re upset about the lack of time I’ve been spending with you, but I can fix it. Let go for a drink.'' He put his arm around your shoulder and was probably leading you to Kev and V’s. You removed the arm and snapped, “What you need is some water. You’ve had enough.”
“What do you mean I haven’t drunk today?”
“Tell that to your breath and clothes. Do you think I’m stupid?”
“I think this conversation is stupid and remember why I was trying not to talk to you.”
“You did it on purpose?”
“I just knew you’d get all worried for nothing.”
“For nothing? She’s not good for you to begin with. Lip” You hold his hand and softly say, “Lip, She was your professor and married.”
“Don’t talk to me like I’m stupid.”
“Lip-”
“I love her! She sure is a hell of a lot better than the ones telling me otherwise. You have no right to judge me. Take a look at yourself!”
“What are you talking about?”
“You go around pining for me in hope someday you’ll be the one. You’re pathetic! You can’t be the one because Helene was! She is! You’re single because no one wants you! You try to act so high and mighty! If you're so great and talented, leave! You’re useless around here! You fucking suffocating me with your supposed love and care! Thanks so much for it! You-”
”Stop!...I get it. You don’t want me around. Get some help from a sponsor and go to the AA meetings.” Tears began to pour, and you sniffled. “You wouldn’t want to lose and hurt someone you actually care about.” As he saw your tears and hurt, he sobered up slightly and said, “Wait-” You quickened your steps to get away as fast as possible. He tried to follow after, but his drunken body wouldn't allow it as he reached forward and fell right on his ass. "Fuck!"

Rey Gives No F*cks About the Grandfather Paradox
Okay so since nobody’s suggested a fic under these terms, I ended up expanding on this post on discord and things snowballed. We kept to the basics of the entire plot revolving around Rey really hating her grandad and leveraging her blood relation to not be unalived about it.
With contributions by @atagotiak, @dracothulhu, @thepallaspalace, and several others. The title comes from @gelpenss.
The basic thing I absolutely need is this: Rey gets thrown back to the middle of the clone wars, and the subsequent plot leans in really heavily on her being, genetically-via-clone-dad, the daughter of the guy running the entire galaxy.
Nobody knows what to do with her.
The timing is mid-TCW for the past (because I want Ahsoka there) and vaguely between Episodes 8 and 9 because I... never watched E9 and don’t want to worry about the timeline. The only things that matter is that Luke is dead (he can die as he did in canon) and that Rey knows she’s Palp’s granddaughter (not the way she does in canon).
We'll say Luke found out from Anakin's panicked force-ghost and just went "well, fuck, okay, I should tell her this before she ends up in a situation like mine and finds out mid-battle or something."
Luke, prior to time-travel: Okay, so, now that I'm dead I know some things I didn't before. Like who your parents were. In the interest of full disclosure because I was in a very similar situation and I don't want you learning the way I did, I'm just going to come right out and say that your father was a clone was Sheev Palpatine. Rey: ... Luke: Are you okay? Rey: I don't know who that is.
(She grew up on Jakku, the history education was a little subpar.)
Setting The Scene
Imagine Rey showing up during or immediately before the clone wars. There’s this phenomenally powerful feral teenager from a desert backwater who tells you that if you ran a paternity test, it would probably pop up the Chancellor. She may or may not bring up cloning. She accuses said Chancellor of being a Sith Lord.
Your other phenomenally powerful feral teenager from a desert backwater, who may not be a teenager anymore but only barely, is very offended by this because Palpatine’s a Very Nice Old Grandfather Figure, but also he’s a little full of side-eye because if the blood test comes back as proof, then Palpatine had a kid and didn’t even know about them, or lied to Anakin, and that’s! Bad! Family’s important!!!
Palpatine hears about this daughter he apparently? Has? And is very confused because the timing doesn’t match up with ANYTHING he was doing, so the kid isn’t natural, and he says as much. (There is an explanation! It’s not a correct explanation, but he does come up with one.)
Finn and Poe and BB-8 all get dragged along because why not have the gang there? Nobody that’s already born, because [handwave] conservation of souls or something, IDK, point is the only person dragged along that’s even remotely close to already existing is Luke’s Force Ghost, who mostly hangs around begging Rey to be less impulsive. Finn is good because he is a nice polite boy, but for actual useful information they need Poe. The unfortunate situation is that the three do not land together. They land at the same time, in completely different corners of the galaxy. This means that nobody is there to curb Rey being her most impulsive self.
Time travel Rey knows two things. Luke’s dad ends up evil. Palpatine has always been evil.
She can solve one of these problems by killing the other, yes?
Rey: Ready to Rumble
See, the initial idea was this: Rey tried to break into the senate to kill Palpatine, got arrested, and then used the "he's biologically my father" card to get out of jail free. (Force Ghost Luke follows her like “please take five seconds to think this through.”)
But.
But.
It would be very, very, very funny if The Force just dumps her in a flash of light in the senate building and she just attacks Gramps on sight. Just a shouted "YOU!" and no-hesitation attempted murder.
Palpatine has no idea what's going on.
Rey took maybe two seconds to get identity confirmation and then started swinging.

[Image Description: An individual in a green metal helmet with an eye slit, holding a pistol. In the upper left, upper right, and lower middle are the phrases “I do not know who I am...” “I don’t know why I’m here” and “All I know is that I must kill.” End description.]
Of course, she gets arrested. There are Master Jedi in the Senate. There are Clone Troopers. Palpatine isn’t the weak old man he pretends to be. Of course she’s stopped.
But she isn’t executed in time for Palpatine to stop her from ruining his entire reputation.
Immediately after Rey fails to kill her Shitty Granddad, Luke's ghost shows up and begs her to not talk about the Sith thing because it will completely undermine everything she's trying to do. Pass off the attempted murder as something else!
Rey, panicking: "that fucker left me on a desert planet for 10 years!" "You owe me 19 years of child support you son of a Hutt!"
The Jedi have to do the investigation, because the girl showed up with a laser sword, and the conversation is, uh... interesting. (“Where did you get that lightsaber?” “I got it from a mysterious old pirate lady I never met before. I don't know, I was being shown around by a smuggler and a Wookie.”)
Interviewer: Why did you try to assassinate the Chancellor? Luke: Say it wasn't assassination. Rey: It wasn't assassination. Int: You weren't trying to kill him? Luke: Assassination has to be politically motivated. Rey: This was, um... not political. Assassination is political, right? Int: You mean this was personally motivated? Rey: Yes. Int: I see. What personal motivation? Luke: Jakku! Rey: He's my grandfather. Int: ... Rey: Possibly father. Nobody was very clear on that. Int: ... Luke: Tell them to run a paternity test. Rey: Oh hey, a blood test would tell us which, right? Int: ............ Rey: I spent ten years as an orphaned scrapdealer on Jakku. He's my father. I'm kind of a little angry. Int: ........... Luke: Good job, kid. You bought yourself some time. Int: I'm going to get a medic to see about that parternity test.
Obviously, it comes back positive. Congratulations, Sheev, you’re the father.
Rey comes with a ready-made built-in excuse for hating Palpatine that nobody can question or fault her for!
Rey, pouring Truth into the Force: I didn't even know I was related to the Chancellor until a few months ago, but it's his fault I grew up the way I did, and he should take some responsibility!
The entire thing is mostly kept hush hush but someone leaks it to the press and Palpatine's ratings tank.
"Chancellor, I think we'll need to waive family visitation until she wants you a little less dead." "I would like to find out why she wants me dead, and indeed, where she came from." "...sir, for your own safety--"
Who would win? A master plan years in the making spanning decades of manipulating and work? or One (1) paternity test
"Okay, so, Rey Palpat--" "Ew, no, I don't want his name." "You--okay. Sure, we can understand that. Is there a name you would prefer to put on the paperwork?" Rey, who would have gone by Skywalker in honor of Luke but can't do that when Anakin is right there and all: "Can I think about it?"
Rey: I don't know what I want my last name to be but I know I don't want his, and most of the people I’d want a name from have famous families like you... Luke's ghost, pointing out the Literal Nobody that she cares about a lot: How about Solo? Rey: ...Solo, then.
(A few months later she runs into Poe again and he offers for Finn and Rey to both take his name because honestly they need SOMETHING but at that point she’s already decided on Smuggler Dad.)
Backtrack a bit. We’ve got a bigger cast.
They all arrive separately. Poe, for one, does better than Rey, who is aiming for a murder, but not quite as well as Finn, who is currently being adopted and hidden like a secret cat by a bunch of Alpha Clones on Kamino. He vibes with the names-or-numbers thing. He doesn’t necessarily tell them where and when he’s from, but he’s very sweet and a great liar and they adopt him wholesale anyway.
The Finn situation is just... "Buir Ti, we need you to hide this man, we've decided he's our little brother but if Nala Se finds out she'll make him leave."
Of course, this leads into Shaak Ti teaching Finn how to Jedi.
Maybe consider Finn needing to almost be tricked into learning Jedi things because he willfully forgets it could apply to him. Finn does not like to think of himself as special, which is super valid, but frustrating for Shaak Ti when it comes to, you know, getting him to acquire knowledge. Finn's training at some point is "here, levitate objects with the Force to entertain the tubies." It’s a lot easier to convince him to practice when it involves the babies.
(Everyone on Kamino looked at Finn and went “oh I love him I’m keeping him and teaching him things.”)
(He’s just very lovable.)
Poe, meanwhile, buys the trust of Anakin Skywalker via R2D2 declaring BB-8 the absolute most baby of droids. R2D2 met BB-8 three hours ago but.
"Hey Obi-Wan this is Poe I met him like five days ago but R2D2 says he checks out because his droid is a baby." "That's nice, Anakin, did you know the Chancellor has a daughter who tried to assassinate him in broad daylight yesterday? Because guess who had to stop the Chancellor from getting assassinated by his daughter in broad daylight yesterday."
A summary so far:
Finn, on Kamino: Hey, um, I don't know where this is, but it's not where I was a few minutes ago. Do you think you could get me a comm? What's your name? Poe, on [dice roll] Denon: Oh, hey, you're General Skywalker? Nice to meet you, I'm so sorry about my droid, she's a little excitable and thought your R2 unit looked like a friend of hers-- Rey, on Coruscant: DIE, GRANDFATHER
Finn: [Peacefully vibing on Kamino, unaware of the chaos and bonding with the clones] Poe: [Trying to explain how he knows someone who tried to kill the chancellor and defend Rey] Rey: [Arrested for trying to kill the chancellor]
Just... just...
Anakin: Some guy ended up lost on base yesterday with his droid, how’s your day going? Obi-Wan: I had to stop someone who claims to be the chancellors daughter from murdering the chancellor after she seemingly blinked into existence in the Senate building. Poe: 😐
(Poe: Oh, so that's where Chaos^2 went.)
Poe: In her defense, she is his... well we don't know if she's his daughter or granddaughter, but she's definitely related to him, and she definitely grew up in a shitty situation that was his fault, so...
(Poe is trying very hard to explain this and not get arrested on the military base.)
As you’ve probably guessed, what's especially funny about all of this for me is the fact that Palpatine is fully aware that this girl shouldn't exist, but can't find a single piece of evidence about where she came from. He didn't start any experiments that could result in a female child, and he didn't have sex in that period of time, so where the hell--
Rey spends so much time in jail... BUT they do eventually assign her a Jedi Master. Possibly before she actually proves her evil grandfather is in fact evil. Most votes went to either Plo Koon or Obi-Wan. Plo, because he’s dad-shaped, and Obi...
"Obi-Wan, you already raised one feral desert child with implausible amounts of power, you handle this." Rey in return is very "Sweet, you vaguely remind me of Master Luke," and nobody knows who the hell she's talking about. Obi-Wan is NOT on board with this plan, she'd really be better off with Plo or like........ Mace.
Reunion Tour
What I need out of this is the eventual Finn and Rey reunion scene that is just excited screaming while someone in the background explains to Shaak Ti that yes this is apparently Palpatine's terrifyingly force-sensitive daughter who hates him.
(Finn senses Rey’s approach and just. Gathers the everyone to wait. He’s just :D REY MY FRIEND REY GUYS MY FRIEND REY IS COMING.)
Anakin shows up with Poe--just a guy who signed on to the military, no big deal--and then Poe and Rey are EXCITED and everyone's just like "Cool, how do you know this literal terrorist child?" And Poe has to scramble and "Uhhhhhhhhhhhh she saved my droid from a scrapheap once and BB-8 is basically my child so I owe her one."
Rey knows that Anakin ends up evil so she’s maybe not actively hostile but definitely very “I’m watching you.” That said, she vibes with him on a lot of things that he maybe doesn’t actively notice.
Rey picks up a snake, snaps off the head for venom avoidance, and starts biting off chunks. Obi-Wan's reaction: [undisguised horror] Anakin and Ahsoka: Ooh, where'd you find that? (Obi-Wan: And now I’m up to three feral children.)
What Does Palpatine Even Do?
OBVIOUSLY at a certain point, Palpatine is just phoning up every ally he has to figure out who broke protocol to synthesize a daughter for him.
So of course, Palpatine blame Plagueis.
She'd have been born five or so years before Naboo, just a few years younger than Anakin. It's such an EASY theory to build a conspiracy around. It is ENTIRELY WRONG, but it’s plausible! And anyone who might have been involved to say otherwise is probably dead!
A random bio-kid shows up you can’t possibly have contributed genes to? Maybe it’s the evil bio spark that did it.
Palpatine tries to placate her with the ‘my genes were stolen for an experiment and I didn’t know’ thing. It doesn’t work because her actual main complaint is he’s evil in her future but he tries.
It'd be a struggle to even get access to her, because of the aforementioned “maybe don’t try to talk to the daughter(?) that hates you” thing, but you know who Palpatine does have access to? The Chosen One.
Rey kind of decides on her favorites early on (she gravitates to Dad Energy and Sad Old Men so Plo and Obi-Wan are on her list, and that means decent time around Anakin and Ahsoka). It's really easy to talk Anakin into helping to some degree because "he'd like to connect to a daughter he never knew" and "a child of her power on a planet like that, you'd know her struggle, my dear boy" and so on. Anakin tries to connect! He tries to play up Sheev’s kind political work and how it can’t have really been his fault! It doesn’t work. Rey does not believe a word of it. Mostly she doesn’t even seem to hear him.
Rey's just like "...oh right, you're the melted mask that Kylo Ren was always ranting about," which means absolutely NOTHING to Anakin, but he mentions it to Palps, who loses his goddamn mind trying to figure out what she's talking about, because it also means absolutely nothing to him.
Here’s the thing: Rey’s already decided that Obi-Wan is cool, because Luke said so, and Plo Koon is dad-shaped, and she also gravitates towards earnest kindness in general, like she made friends with Finn real quick, so Ahsoka? Already getting along great.
She doesn’t dislike Anakin, really, he isn’t evil yet, he’s just... meh. She’s a little suspicious and she likes him less than the others but... Anakin.
Rey, to Anakin: You are my least favorite. Anakin, to Palpatine: YOUR DAUGHTER HATES ME???
And he goes from “she’s a lil standoffish” to “she doesn’t like me” to “she hates me” as is normal for Anakin.
It’s just an escalation of this one time Palpatine wants Anakin to not have rifts and trust issues with a person, at least not until later, because he needs information.
Meanwhile, that very moment, Rey is just like "huh, nobody here is listening to me about how make a sixth-hand carburetor work, where's Luke's dad?"
Anakin is venting to Palpatine about how hard it is to talk to Rey, and she's over in the Temple just like "Hey, that guy was useful last time, I should ask him," but also she only ever thinks of him as Luke's Dad.
(At one point, Obi-Wan is having a bit of a break down, and then Anakin starts having a breakdown about that, meanwhile the clones are (badly) trying to hide Finn behind their backs, Rey is watching Ahsoka practice and being like "I want two lightsabers," and Poe is trying to keep R2 from stealing BB-8 and Force Ghost Luke is just face palming in the background.)
(Rey deserved a saber staff, maybe one that can detach and turn into a jar’kai set. Possibly a pike. Mostly I just wish she got more chances to whack things with a big stick.)
