Self-validation Can Sound Like: • "I was right to stand up for myself." • "I did the best I could with what I knew at that time." • "I am proud of myself for challenging myself." "Today has been a difficult day for me." • "I can do hard things." • "It is okay I said no to something I really did not want to do" • "I feel overworked and need to prioritize rest." • "I tried my best and that is enough." • "I am feeling upset right now." • "I feel misunderstood." • "That was a difficult conversation but it was needed." • "Not everyone will like me and that is okay." "Today was tough. What do I need to feel better?" Suicide is not selfish. Suicide is, normally, death caused by the illness of depression. It is the final symptom. A final collapse under unbearable weight. Suicide is a tragedy. If you have never been close to that edge try not to judge what you can't understand. . . . . . #death #suicidetweets #suicidequote #mentalhealth #UnitedStates #tümer #matthaig #selfish #illness #depression #symptom #collapse #unbearable #weight #tragedy #judge #understand #thebraincoach (at United States of America) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRmbt62gTSm/?utm_medium=tumblr

This is Self-Sabotage * Having negative beliefs about yourself that control your choices/decisions. * Not doing anything outside of your comfort zone (even though you want to). * Making excuses for your unhealthy habits despite knowing they aren't good for you. * Not communicating your expectations or feelings with others. * Breaking promises you make to yourself/ putting off things that matter to you. * Working to the point of burnout. * Staying in relationships that aren't good for your mental health or ones you have outgrown. — Nawal Mustafa; M.A. O #thebraincoach #selfSabotage https://www.instagram.com/p/CiXkZCYuqq7/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Posted @withregram • @thebraincoach As I start the series for Imposter syndrome, I wanted to first focus on where it stems from: low self esteem which makes us afraid of being discovered as incompetent. Self esteem is depicted as a basic human motivation in Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs. He suggests that in order for an individual to grow and feel fulfilled, inner self-respect is required (i.e. self-esteem). Having healthy self-esteem is important because it can help you maintain a realistically positive attitude toward life and whatever it throws your way. It also influences your ability to accomplish your. goals and how you show up in relationships. In my next few posts, I’ll be sharing some tips on how to combat low self-esteem and Imposter Syndrome. Follow along if you’re interested ♥️ #anxiety #overwhelm #stress #burnout #mentalhealth #Psychology #clinicalpsychology #health #wellness #love #selfheal #journal #writing #mindset #grounding #therapy #therapist #psychologist #selfdevelop #grow #confidence #selfesteem https://www.instagram.com/p/CTcjUs-nlAp/?utm_medium=tumblr

Posted @withregram • @thebraincoach What is an emotional trigger? It is anything that provokes an uncomfortable emotional reaction within us. Emotional triggers vary from person to person. Different things trigger different emotional responses in people depending on their unique experiences, biases, and insecurities. In this post, I share with you some common examples of what an emotional trigger may look like. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To identify when we are emotionally triggered, try to notice when a situation results in an influx of negative thoughts, a racing heart, a rise in body temperature, faster breathing rate, a weakness in your limbs, or trembling of your lips. Usually the trigger is a result of a perceived threat in our environment. As such, our body activates the sympathetic nervous system and goes into fight or flight mode. Our bodily reactions and thoughts can tell us a lot about when we are feeling emotionally triggered. Once we are aware of our emotional reaction, we are then better able to respond to the situation in an effective way (rather than reacting without thinking). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Note: the word trigger in this post means “give rise to” or “provoke”. This is not the same as the word “trigger” psychologists use when describing a stimulus (i.e. smell, sound, sight, etc.) that serves as a reminder of past trauma in PTSD, eating disorders, substance abuse, etc. I hope this post was informative and insightful for you. Take care of your mind and body. Love, Nawal. ♥️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Reference: Purves et al.
