me, age 11: wow an Uglies movie would be so cool!
me, age 31, after watching the trailer for the most aesthetically generic YA dystopia I've ever seen, where Tally is played by an actress ten years older than the character, the Pretties look like Instagram influencers instead of borderline-naturally-impossible anime characters, and fucking Laverne Cox plays Dr. Cable in a misguided attempt to #DiversityGirlboss that actually comes off as a The Trans Are Brainwashing The Youths Into Surgery implication holy shit who greenlit this: I take it back

I'm going to do it.
I'm going to transition.
It'll take some time before I'm ready, because I want to lose weight first (among other things), but I can't keep holding it back anymore. I haven't been entirely honest about my gender on here: I'm AMAB, and for the longest time I considered myself to be nonbinary. August/Alice have been placeholder names for me, but they feel so empty, like a shell to contain and hide who I really am. The only places I've truly been able to "be a woman" are Tumblr and Discord, but then I log off and am forced to be treated like a man again.
Last night, though, I watched I Saw the TV Glow, and I was heaving and sobbing by the end. I don't want to live a life being somebody I'm not, just because it's safe and comfortable and the alternative is scary and unknown. I CAN'T do that. I owe it to myself.
Tumblr media
^my hastily written journal entry in a sobbing haze at 2 in the morning, god I'm a cringe girl lol
My dear friend who's already beautifully transitioned gave me a bunch of transition resources and information, including the Dysphoria Bible, which you can find online and I highly recommend. It may be a few years of me figuring stuff out and going to therapy before I fully transition outside of Tumblr, but I HAVE to do this. I feel like I'm going insane, and I'm positive that this dysphoria has contributed to my collapsing mental health these past few months and years. I've been so scared and lonely and tired and self loathing, and every time I look in the mirror I'm horrified by the well-meaning but ultimately WRONG person looking back at me. And I don't care that the world is getting more and more transphobic. I'd rather potentially suffer and die as myself, as a woman, than live a false, empty life as a man.
I can't wait to truly be myself, for the first time in my entire life. For once, I almost feel hopeful.
Thank you for reading, ily ❤️

I think a lot of homophobes and transphobes don't just feel hatred toward queer people, but they genuinely fear us in an almost literal sense, and so they assume the inverse is true for gay and trans people.
I think that's why you have so many cishet people who smugly say that they're going to make queer people angry, afraid, "triggered" by displays of heterosexuality and/or displays of traditional gender - they think we aren't used to living in a cishet world, that we fear cishet people for their identities as much as they fear us for ours.

I'm amused by the "Separation of the work from the creator" lyrics, because I don't see any praise for the paintings Adolf Hitler painted, and many people don't want to have them because Hitler created them, lol
By the way, fuck Rowling for being transphobic and liking a Zionist tweet, fuck Taylor Swift for remaining silent about genocide and fuck the Olympics because she let Israel perform, and fuck Marvel because it's owned by Disney and he supported Israel financially

my lady jane lgbt but specifically trans allegory was so crazy djnfjefjdnm like i'm like 100% sure that's what they were going for w the whole ethian thing. like that whole scene where they talk about how he can possibly stand constantly being challenged like this and him saying that he doesn't care bc people that matter to him know who he is, plus the narrator literally calling non-ethians cis like it's not subtle
and i really love how the whole narrative was like. people are starving and there's constant riots and a few idiots control the entire country but the person trying to seize power isn't addressing any of those issues because her entire campaign is "when i'm the ruler i'll exterminate every trans person". and it works. feels very relevant right now and i really liked the way all that was handled

Watching Prom Dates right now because decompressing, but there's such a weird need to put down the queer kid in the movie. Like every time they bring up she's gay, they have to say something about her clothing or wearing her brother's jorts or "let's go to the local co-op poetry slam vegan restaurant to find you a date."
Like it's only funny for so long, especially because the stereotypes don't stop when they are between the straight characters talking about her sexuality behind her back. And I can't remember the lesbian ever making a joke about herself, it's always her straight bestie or brother....
We've continuously seen this with the gay men characters in media that are there to be the best friend who is essentially a personified joke, but it feels like some of these movies think they can just get away with queerphobia and laughing at the queers because they are in an inclusive era or the character actually gets a love interest.

The trans experience of getting lucky with a new primary care provider who doesn't care about your transness or transition so long as you're getting the proper care

"Life Is Not a Competition, But I'm Winning" is a documentary by women and queer people about women and queer people in sports, specifically running.
SYNOPSIS: If history is written by the victors, where does that leave those who were never allowed to be part of the game? A collective of queer athletes enters the Olympic Stadium in Athens and sets out to honour those who were excluded from standing on the winners’ podium. They meet Amanda Reiter, a trans* marathon runner who has to struggle with the prejudices of sports organisers and Annet Negesa, a 800m runner who was urged by the international sports federations to undergo hormone-altering surgery. Together they create a radical utopia far from the rigid gender rules in competitive sports.
I had the opportunity to watch this movie and it's really really good, dealing with very heavy subjects but never letting pain and suffering overtake the story the protagonists want to tell.

I'm sorry if this is a hot take but putting Jason momoa in a blond wig and pink suit jacket just tells me they're gonna make jokes at the expense of how he looks. And I just know that's gonna upset literally everyone lol on the right they're gonna say "oh look at this 'woman' harhar" and on the left they're gonna say "ugh yet another 'haha man in women's clothes' joke wtf" and it's gonna be a mess I just Know it

Incredible news everyone. I have a new addition to the list of Movies Of All Time.
If you want a scathing, tounge-in-cheek criticism of misogyny in the armed forces and the role of scientific advancement in the military industrial complex, shitty puns, lots of titties, the most available special effects 1996 had to offer, then you want the action/sci-fi/comedy/adult film Repligator!
I'm not telling you anything else about this movie. Invite a friend over and make them watch it without telling them what it's about.
