anyways umbrella academy s4 was garbage but on the bright side i finally watched deadpool & wolverine today and it was fucking phenomenal

went for a drive for the first time in a bit. picked up my meds and some boston creme donuts 😋 and then waze took me a different route home than usual and it was a very pretty road. lots of tall green trees lining the road and the steepest driveway i've ever seen lol

god the way ghost’s voice drops when he tells soap, “you’ll need to improvise to survive”

before that, everything he says is steady but when he acknowledges that soap’ll have to do something outside his skill set, something he intimately knows to be difficult, his voice wavers. he does the same when he says, “welcome to guerrilla warfare”; it’s sombre and serious in a way he doesn’t act for the rest of the mission. if you read into it enough, he almost sounds apologetic; like he knows exactly what soap’s about to go through and wishes he didn’t have to

he keeps soap going; poking at him and making jokes, giving him tips and asking about his progress. he never lets him stop and take a second to think bc he knows the moment he does is the moment it'll all hit him; the betrayal, the pain, the fear, the deaths, all of it will drown him and if that happens, soap won't make it

he needs him to be a soldier through and through and he knows this is one of the worst kinds of battlefields you could end up on

and the only times he slips is when he acknowledges that fact

it happens again when he says, "tryin' to get you here alive and in one piece". his jovial dark humour facade drops for just a moment when he has to face the potential reality of losing soap. then he tries to pick it back up again with, "one of us has to survive to tell the tale"; completely discounting himself as a survivor to try and rally soap and make him think it’s all down to him

and soap does the same thing

when he's calling out for ghost on the radio, he's tentative, testing the frequency, then when he doesn’t get a response, he grows desperate; "ghost, this is 7-1, do you copy?"

then when ghost answers, he smooths out his voice; he hides the pain, the fear, and no matter what response you give to ghost asking if he’s injured, soap brushes it off (“i’m good”, “what’s the difference?”, “i’m not a medic”). soap decides it’s in ghost’s best interest to hide the extent of his injuries

he doesn’t know where ghost is, if he’s secure, if he has any weapons; he doesn’t even know if he’s in las almas until he says, “there’s a church, i’m headed to it”. for all he knows, he could’ve run in the complete opposite direction. if ghost knows he’s hurt, then his attention would be split between his own survival and soap’s

and soap, who lets himself be poked and prodded towards the church, needs to hide his own doubts. maybe he needs ghost to believe he'll make it so he himself can believe it ("what are my odds?" "don't make me bet against you", "think i'll live that long?" "probably not")

he all but begs ghost to tell him he'll get through it and if he knows just how bad off he is, maybe he'll change his mind. maybe he'll think he won't make it to the church

maybe he'll leave him alone for good

"you injured?"

"i’m good"

"let's find out how good you are"

B lives in a crowded city and their heart skips a beat when they catch a glimpse of someone who looks like A

Their vastly different music taste means that A associates a whole genre of music with B and will text B if they hear any song that remotely resembles what they like

B noting down places in the city that A might want to visit, plus some cute spots to take pictures or go on dates together

Date night where A and B deliver the same type of meal to each other and talk over a call while eating it (bonus: they rate the meal afterwards and if they both love it, it goes on the list of favorite restaurants)

A realizes that B’s state/country/continent doesn’t have a specific animal that’s super common and spamming B with pictures and facts about it

So are the Big Bads of Junior Year going to be the Rat Grinders? AKA kids who leveled up 'the normal way' by doing a bunch of quests, grinding, taking on any enemy to get more powerful, but because of the 'luck' and 'opportunities' given to other kids (ie the Bad Kids) aren't being lauded or appreciated like they expected so they're taking it out on the Bad Kids, have taken advantage of it the summer they were gone, and are doing what they can to punish them for 'being rewarded despite failing at what's expected of them, despite actually saving the world'.

I wonder if all the members of Rat Grinders have classes that reflect those of the Bad Kids? We already know they have a rogue and a bard...

I’m on my first full watch of Justified and loved seasons 1 through 4, enough that it’s already in my top shows ever. Now, season 5 is… well, let’s just say I’m finding it a bit weaker than previous seasons to put it nicely. So I figured I’d try to compile some bright spots as I go to help me (and anyone else who might like/need them) reach season 6:

- Raylan’s still handsome as anything (as Rachel said in the first season, it definitely helps him get away with things). Sigh, I like to watch him walk. Also, his accent is a little heavier in this season (in my opinion), which I think is a great acting touch. Side note: Raylan remains a disaster but I love him anyway.

- The comedy duo of Boyd and Wynn

- Loretta McCready, I adore you.

- Wynn’s interrogation with the BB gun

- Raylan and Boyd being Raylan and Boyd in episode 4. “Raylan Givens, are you flattering me?” They dug coal together okay, their flirting and intricate courtship rituals are incomprehensible to anyone but them. Though I love how all the characters are like you're not fooling anyone. The way they leaned back against the bar and looked at each other — Boyd try not to look so fond of the lawman who keeps interrupting your criminal activities.

- Tim Gutterson and Rachel Brooks

- Tim and Boyd playing Scrabble. I loved the little glimpse of this and wish the scene had been longer. Like what word did Boyd play that he asked if Tim wanted to challenge? Who was winning? Inquiring minds want to know.

You know what sucks? Starting out liking a character but then seeing so many terrible takes about them and watching them be used to bash on your favorite character both by fans an the narrative until you not only no longer enjoy that character but you have trouble interacting with people who talk about them positively because it's almost always paired with bashing your fave and watering them down or demonizing them in favor of making that character into the greatest thing that ever happened
