So my understanding of Tumblr is that you can go riiight up to the boundary of actually writing smut as long as you elide the actual descriptions and mark it as mature, is that right? Always a bit tricky to infer stuff like that when the community guidelines are entirely focused on visual art.
Because, uh
I guess I'll find out in a few hours.

I don't know if you're already aware, but tumblr is flagging any blog that touches your "trans women can be butches too" post as explicit, which is absolutely insane https://www.tumblr.com/tobi-smp/718210825124495360
link to the post you are sharing with me for easy reference
1 - it's my post but I am not the artist, I'm just sharing the work here (with permission from the artist) Now that I'm more regularly posting art on tumblr from artists that aren't on here, I'm making it a habit to check with the artists first.
2 - Yes I am fully aware. From what I understand of tumblr's community guidelines, it is because the figures in the piece are nude. The post is not "flagged" or hidden or removed and I have no strikes against my account for it, at least as far as I can tell. This is different from the "community labels" which are for content that is allowed on tumblr but tumblr would like labeled as "mature", with the option to indicate from three categories: drug and alcohol addiction, violence, sexual themes. A bit of a misnomer on the last one, as it applies to nonsexual nudity as well. So, the post is allowed on tumblr, just with a small indicator. Is it annoying? Yes. Are the community guidelines and rules regarding this stuff easy to make sense of? Nope. I recently appealed the 'sexual themes' label on another piece by the same artist and the label was sustained. Seems to me that nudity in general will get the label.
I'm surprised that your whole blog was marked as adult simply for reblogging this one post. I've made no small amount of 'mature' posts and reblogged plenty as well and from what I can tell, my blog is not marked as adult. Even my horny blog has recently had the mature status removed, after YEARS of being a pixelated icon! I do not think that having the adult label on a blog will result in the blog being deleted, in all likelihood. Basically, you're perfectly fine and I would assume this is a fluke or something. Maybe worth asking support about.
I certainly think that these labels are confusing for users and that the information available from tumblr about it is unclear. I also think our subcultural use of the "nsft" tag isn't helping haha! Of course it's not a real problem and I've used it too. We just use it to tag things that very much ARE allowed on tumblr which is funny and probably isn't helping with our understanding of what the rules are for this website.
I know I certainly would appreciate some clarity on the rules, what is allowed and what isn't, what constitutes a community label and what doesn't, what happens to accounts and blogs that are marked as mature, etc. I know we all could use more and clearer communication from @staff or @support about this
Anyone else more knowledgeable about this topic care to weigh in?

I would love an explanation for why my OMSN giftset somehow includes drug use and mature themes. Because there is nothing there.

Community Standards...
Would this be adult content if the far guy was wearing a shirt?
What if the near guy was wearing long pants?
What if the near person was a girl in dress that went below her knees?
What if the person lying down was a 10 year old boy? A 15 year old boy?
What if that boy was wearing shirt?
Tumblr media
Now, apparently only the original poster can appeal these decisions. So found it in my feed with a red banner and saying that it violated standards.
So how did I repost it.?
Easy:
open image in new tab.
Using your OS, marque select the image minus the red border.
Create a new post.
Paste the image as part of that new post.
I would much prefer if Tumblr just had NSFW tag, or copied the movie rating scheme.

In a recent staff post, tumblr staff said that only a quarter of tumblr is lgbtq, and I don’t think anyone’s really convinced of those numbers. Ik this post might not reach that many people but…
(Edit: oh my god guys ik the results are biased okay?? Unfortunately that’s just how polls work. Check my reblog tho gay, was literally the 2nd most trending tag last night. Even if you refuse to believe the statistical literacy of this poll you can still observe that tumblr is still largely very gay compared to the average social media. I talk more about this in a reblog but god. I get it. Polls have never been that good at gathering unbiased results)

It’s so sad to me how scared the Twitter and Reddit refugees are of making mistakes on this website.
Dear refugees, as someone who used to be on both Twitter and Reddit but who uses Tumblr the longest of all sites (besides Youtube):
This is the website without cringe culture. Don’t be ashamed. You won’t get downvoted or beat up for even your weirdest opinions because frankly, 90% of the users on this website are either neurodivergent or queer or a mix of both (me, I’m talking about me)
This website is like the table of bullied kids you always used to avoid in highschool.
We all know we’re different, strange, cringy, obsessive.
That’s why this place holds so little judgement.
We aren’t insecure incels. We embrace our differences.
So if you want to talk about your unhealthy life obsession dedicated to a sidecharacter from an unknown animated movie from 1978 that had approximately 2 minutes of screen time - do it.
Heck even dedicate a whole sideblog to them for fucks sake.
This platform is literally what the ancient prophecy has foretold:
We are cringe, but we are free

btw artists you should maybe stop posting your art on pinterest if that's something you've been doing, i know a few ppl who have been sharing their art there
i'm not sure if this section has been updated at all or if it's always been this way but I was taking a read through their soon-to-be-implemented update to their TOS to see if they'll be adding anything with the increased usage of AI and this looks like perhaps this section exists (at least in part) for that reason 🤔 [thinking emoji]
Tumblr media
unfortunately their report function for art theft/reposting has historically been less than stellar (an understatement) and I don't really see it improving any time soon but perhaps they will improve it with this update to their TOS and privacy policy! one can hope at least!
link to the preview of the new TOS: https://policy.pinterest.com/en/terms-of-service-preview
alt text for the screenshot below, as well as linked in the embedded image description feature:
A screenshot of a section of Pinterest's new Terms of Service. The subsection heading reads: "How we and other users can use your User Content". The highlighted text reads: "By providing any User Content on the Service, you grant us license to use, store, publicly perform or display, reproduce, save, modify, create derivative works, monetize, download, translate and distribute your User Content. Nothing in these Terms entitles you to any payments or the right to share in any revenue from any monetization of User Content."
