Married in the past, married in the present
To think that the Amity Trio would get dragged by their children (Dan and Dani) into another universe as a form of vacation and to escape the annoying palace councils, was not something to be expected in the Fenton-Nightangle-Foley-Manson family. it was due for a vacation anyways.
But here's the catch, They decided they should atleast take a two month break with each other so they can explore this universe more, but they did agree that every 2 weeks they'll pass the custody of their kids with each other.
It was very eventful to say the least,
Tucker, got adopted. by the one and only Bruce Wayne how?? he doesn't know either, the only thing he can remember was Bruce Wayne shoving a couple of adoption papers in his face, and now he was suddenly a Wayne, he certainly was not complaining he gets to use their advance technologies without it getting corrupted by his partner Danny(he loved the guy, but he needed his daily screen time too.)
He finds out about their secret identities two days in, was not completely surprised to find a cave downstairs, "Every billionare has one, you're not unique." was his words before he went on and explore the cave leaving a very confused batfam. he agreed to help them but if its only for hacking and stuff connected to technology, and to only join them if it's really a life changing scenario.
He was the second one to have Dan and Dani, so when they found out they're dad got adopted by a rich billionaire they were equally disappointed, Tucker tried to defend himself for his poor decision, to say the batfam was shocked once again was an understatement, imagine finding that their new brother had two children and two partners was lnot part of their new years plan. Dan and Dani only took a couple of hours for them to fit in.
Sam, went on and became a vigilante, under Harley Quinn and poison ivy's care, with almost the same powers as Ivy and same humor as Harley the three of them certainly became close friends.
Sam definitely had fun blowing up factories, and proceed to prank cops and officials, she had a run with the infamous batfam a couple of times, mostly Robin, the first time they've met they had a spar with their own weapons ofcourse, but at the same time all Sam could think was: 'the hell's a kid doing vigilante work?'. Eventually they have bonded over different weapons and fighting styles, Batman had atleast tried to recruit Sam who goes by Foliahàrà at some point, but was turned down quite harshly.
She was the first one to take care of their children, Ivy loved Dan's brutality and Harley adored Dani's chaotic self. so they became the fun cool aunts of the two children, they have somepoint asked one peaceful breakfast who the other parents are, But the only thing Sam had said was they'll meet them someday.
Danny becomes a villain, a mad scientist to be exact wondering what'll happen if he follows in his parents footsteps, he also works alongside with Mr.Freeze, and they discuss a cure together for Mr.Freeze's wife,.
He doesn't use his ghost powers in villainy his explanation? Phantom was for the good and peace. While Fenton-Nightangle was for the bad and destruction. it certainly was a shitshow when he first debuted, lets just say Gotham had an early snow day, about 20 meters of snow covered Gotham for a week. The worst part is that the snow doesn't melt. so the only thing they could've do was to sit and watch as only Fenton was able to melt the snow.
Danny was the last to get his kids, so as a responsible parent he let them go crazy, for the whole two weeks as long they keep their identities a secret and to be back at lunch, dinner, curfew and family night. which led to a bunch of rogues getting hunted and tied up by a pair of ghost kids. It was a peaceful quiet two weeks for Gotham.
'this is absolutely hilarious' Tucker known as Codelith mentally chuckled as his bat family including Foliahàrà who was sitting across him also tied up, he knew it was Sam the first moment he laid his eyes on her. no one does eyeliner as thick as Sam. Speaking of Sam she was glaring at him from across the room.
from different audiences it may have look like the two was going to kill eachother, but in reality its just their love language. The batfam looked at them confused.
"Codelit." Sam greeted in a annoyed tone.
"Foliahàrà." Tucker greeted in a more joyful tone.
"You two know eachother?" Duke questioned, as he eyed the two. very confused on why the two of them almost have the same green toxic light surrounding them.
"Ofcourse we do, we're ma-" Sam was cut off, by the sound of someone maniacally laughing. fate seemed to be a bitch because in strolled Joker himself holding a bloodied crowbar.
Tucker can feel Red hood relive his trauma, from where his sitting, he didn't really focused on the Jokers dramatic speech, because all he can think was the safety of his new family he grew comfortable with. thank fuck Dan and Dani aren't here.
"What's this a new birdie? Batman.. you sure like taking in a lot of children, how generous of you." this finally caught tucker's attention when as he saw joker walking towards him, his family stayed quiet but kept watching Joker's movements they looked constipated Tucker almost let out a snort but kept it in.
"Codelith wasn't it, Very unique I wonder why you picked it."Joker asked with a chuckle that made tucker want to puke. "Not talkative ey? well that's alright.
"I don't need you to talk." Joker playfully picked up his crowbar, then placed it on Tucker's shoulder dangerously close to his head."I just need you to scream."
He saw Sam trying to use her powers in the background, which unfortunately wasn't working because she's too used making exaggerated movements when using her plant powers, he remembers her saying that it makes it more easy to manipulate the greens around her, so she definitely had trouble controlling it while tied up, after all there was so little wrist movement to work with.
He sent a warning gaze to his Family and wife. to not make any sudden moves, which made Sam hesitantly stop, It was different with the batfam though they were really trying to be free from the ropes.
He returned his attention to joker, who was still waiting for an answer. "He's coming." was all he said, this only made joker grin, and the Bats confused. While Sam immediately got it.
Joker laughed fucking ugly laugh if Tucker said so himself, the rogue pointed at his new family's direction 'Who's he? can't you see new birdie they're all here no one's going to get you!"
And then Joker lifted his crowbar then struck down at Codelith's head, a awful sound resonated across the building, Fuck that's going to leave a nasty concussion. he felt blood dripping from his nose, as he heard the shouts and screams of the Bats and Sam. Oh Sam, I'm alright, Everything's okay, He can feel Foliahàrà's panic and anger from here.
Its okay, he's okay, because he's here.
Tucker grinned fucking grinned, like a villain type of grin. he looked up at Joker's direction and said:"He's here."
And then the wall blew up, making everyone in the warehouse startled, Here comes in the man itself. Fenton fucking Nightangle. with a smile plastered on his face he strutted in with full confidence, damn that's attractive Sam and Tucker agreed with each other.
"Joker." was all Fenton said, as he looked at the man with no emotion, his gaze landed on Sam then landed on Tucker who's blood was dripping on the floor, the only thing that Danny saw was green.
HURT?/PAIN?/IN DANGER.
"Mr. Fenton! are you also here to watch the show?"Joker grinned teeth showing and all. "It's such a pleasure for you to be her-"
Danny walked passed Joker, Never giving him a chance to finish, he focused his gaze infront of him and went towards Tucker and cupped his face making sure he wasn't hurt that much.
"Ah... ofcourse you would immediately go to them, so silly of me!"Joker laughed.
"What do you mean by that?" Batman asked suspicously, as he made sure the Fenton boy didn't hurt his new son.
"Don't tell me you don't know Batsy! gosh darn am I the one that'll say this so exciting." The irritating man chuckled. "Well if you didnt know Batman, Dr.Fenton, Foliahàrà, and Codelith are all married together!"
The Bats let out a gasp of surprise as they looked at the trio, who remained quiet.
"I know right! such a wonderful love story." Joker wiped a fake tear. "Too bad I have to kill you all, Dr. Fenton you might've taken the town in surprise by your so wonderful inventions, but you are nothing without your gadgets." Joker explained while twirling the crowbar in his hands.
Danny let out a chuckle, his back facing the green haired man. "I see that you've made some research about us Joker."
"Yes, you are quite right, I am married to Codelith and Foliahàrà, But there's something you've missed in your research." Fenton continued, he can hear Red robin in the background saying "I don't believe Codelith can pull two fine people." who was shushed by Nightwing.
"And what would that be? please entertain me Doctor." Joker grinned.
"My Hero name's Phantom." With that Danny made a slashing motion as he swiftly faced the Joker face to face, not even a second later half of the warehouse was engulfed by ice including Joker.
Hair white as now. skin pale as a paper, and eyes green as toxic radiation, he once again faced. The vigilantes with a smile and said:
"Well that was an eventful night, who wants Fudge?"

Prompt 131
Okay, so first of all Dan would like to say it’s not his fault. Ellie was the one to bring some unknown object into the speeder and Jazz was the one driving. Or had Sam been driving- didn’t matter! It wasn’t his fault, he wasn’t the one shooting at them, he wasn’t the one to break whatever, he was not the one to open a stupid portal, and so it wasn’t his fault!
So why is he now like, five years old, and why is the speeder crashed in some sort of corn field. Why is everyone- except for Jazz whose now like six- also like three at most?! And- oh fuck the door just opened and… okay that’s a kid. Like, nine at most.
A kid and an adult, who he hadn’t noticed at first so again, it’s not his fault if he hissed at them and tried to hide his not-siblings behind him. It’s also not fair they’re apparently stuck to ghost speak for who knows how long, but at least they can understand the people.
“Martha, get some blankets, it’s happened again!”

Steph's Year of Recovery
So! Danny noticed that a new face had made it's way into town. Two new faces actually, an older lady known as Dr Leslie, and a girl about his age called Steph.
He first met them when he was at the hospital for one of his parents. They had stood too close to an explosion again, and he met them while he was in the waiting Area.
Dr Leslie was a strict but obviously caring older woman, who seemed to be the one taking care of Steph as a kind of maternal figure, or maybe more like an Aunt. She greeted him simply and then walked away to talk with the Secretary, leaving him to talk to Steph.
Steph was a blond girl in a Wheelchair, and he could see bandages piking out of her clothes as he talked to her. She explained that she had been in an Accident a few weeks ago that left her wheelchair bound for a while, and that she had come to Amity for their surprisingly good Medical Centers.
He and Steph got along really well, and by the end of it he asked her for her Number so they could continue talking later. They stayed in touch, and when she was finally permitted to leave the Hospital, he introduced her to his friends. They all got along like a House on Fire, both figuratively and in one memorable case very literally (Vlad had pissed them off okay!)
Eventually Steph recovered enough that she moved from a Wheelchair to Crutches, and their shenanigans got even more chaotic (Vlad hadn't even pissed them off, this time was just for fun)
The only thing Danny could complain about was the fact that Steph was hiding something from them.
She said that she had been in an Accident a while ago, which was why they had come to Amity in the first place. But Danny knew it was more than that.
He could sense lingering traces of Death coming from her after all.
...
Steph honestly loved her current life.
Sure she had lost everything, her home, her health, her friends, her life, but she had gained new things too! Like Danny and the Gang! They were honestly some of the best friends she had ever had, and for some reason they just clicked with her instantly.
Danny was interesting and funny, Sam was vegan and a badass, Tucker was smart and witty, they all fit with her personality perfectly! It almost felt like she bad been friends with them for years. (She ignored the way her heart skipped a beat when she saw them)
But she still couldn't shake the sense that they were hiding something from her.
She knew it had something to do with the Ghost Problem in the town. And wasn't that a kicker, there was a whole Supernatural Ghost Outbreak in this Town and nobody knew about it. Dr Leslie had said that Amity was off the map enough to hide from Bruce, but she hadn't mentioned it was hidden from the Justice League itself!
Danny, Sam, and Tucker definitely knew more about it than they let on however. Whenever a Ghost Attack would happen, at least one of them would rush off with some practiced excuse and return after the Ghost Attack was over all dirty. She could guess what was going on, and she really didn't like it.
(This had killed her, she had died doing what they were doing, she didn't want to lose them)
Eventually she had to confront them, coincidentally on the same day they decided to confront her.
"Are you Vigilantes?" / "Did you die?"
"..."
"What?" / "What?"

i have been unmedicated for the entirety of spring break and thus have had little interest in writing this down, but i have been thinking about this for the entire week (as well as a dpdc clone danny au that resulted in it becoming its entirely separate batman au that includes a teenage vigilante bruce wayne, an ocarina, and me entirely incapable of making a batman au without making bruce dirt poor but we're not talking about that) and so i've finally went 'fuck it' and forcibly grabbed my laptop. I will get this done in one sitting even if it kills me.
BUT. This is about neither clone^2 danny nor about who i am calling Ocarina Batman. This is about my Danyal Al Ghul Au and more SPECIFICALLY it's me thinking about his relationship with Sam and Tucker specifically.
Tucker and Sam? Adore this asshole (affectionate) with every fiber of their being. And it is very much a reciprocated feeling, but Danny's thoughts will not be delved into much other than he would kill for them.
Tucker? The only person currently capable of getting a deep, loud, belly laugh out of Danny. Sam can get him to smile and to laugh, but it's the kind that's a chuckle-under-the-breath. The quiet, looks-down-while-huffing laughter. Snorts once with laughter and then grins stupidly.
But Tucker? Tucker can crack a slew of stupid jokes and Danny will be incapacitated for the next five minutes because he's laughing so hard that he can't breath. He lands one well-timed pun or quip and Danny will be close to tears. His laughter is their favorite sound in the whole world.
Sam is lowkey jealous of this ability, and she's gotten a belly laugh out of Danny a few times. But alas, it is Tucker who wields this power and has gotten it the most times out of the two of them.
-
They're also both physically affectionate with Danny as much as possible. It started roughly around when they were 12-ish, a year since they befriended Danny, and they noticed that he sought after touch but never seemed to initiate (and was in some ways repulsed by it). They started slowly being more touchy with him. Hooking a finger around his to lead him somewhere, tapping his wrist, looping arms. Little touches, grabs, etc, to get him used to it, and once he started doing it back they started increasing it.
It's gotten to a point where he will now just. Lay on them. Like a lizard sunbathing on a rock. Leaning on their backs when they're sitting in class before the bell rings, his chin on their heads. He'll talk about anything with his arms looped around their shoulders.
If they're sitting on a couch at either of their houses, he'll lay his legs on theirs. Him and Tucker will press their feet against the other's and try and push against them (newsflash: Danny always wins, Tucker claims its the ghost strength but Danny's been winning since before his accident)
-
Naturally, both Sam and Tucker know where Danny keeps his weapons on his person, and are allowed to grab them off of him if they need it. His only requirement is that they don't lose his weapons if they take it and forget to return it immediately.
They both understand how big of a thing this is from Danny, and so they do their best to treat his weapons with a lot of respect and care because they know its his way of saying he trusts them.
-
Sam and Tucker are so fond of Danny it's insane. Like fr. That's their goddamn best friend, and they are so protective of him. Emotionally, physically, you name it. They will tear the head off a grown man if they need to, Danny's had scars since he arrived in Amity Park and Sam and Tucker both are going to find the person who put them there and make them pay for it.
One time, Tucker overheard a bunch of upperclass girls speaking nastily about Danny and about the rumors surrounding him, calling him names like 'freak', 'monster', etc. Danny was with him and heard it, and seemingly appeared unbothered by it, even telling Tucker that he was used to such rumors.
Tucker was so furious that hacked into the school system later that night and tanked those girls grades. They were kicked out of their clubs and had to go to mandatory tutoring for the rest of the year. He made sure to leave some way of letting them know it was him who did it.
And Sam doesn't like using her money for things, doesn't like abusing that wealth. So instead, whenever her parents talk bad about Danny, she causes a media incident that has her parents scrambling to deal with. She does something wild, outrageous by her parents' standards.
She heard some boys on the basketball team making fun of Danny once, similar to those girls had. She kicks up a fuss about something eco-unfriendly at school and forcibly holds a protest on the same day of the big home basketball game, forcing them to cancel the event and reschedule to a visiting school.
She anonymously donates money so that there's new uniforms for the team but oops! Looks like she "forgot" to donate enough money for them to get uniforms for all the team members, and strangely enough those boys in particular didn't get them! Looks like they'll have to wait until more money gets donated for the basketball team to get their new, nice uniforms. The old ones look so ratty in comparison, right?
And since the football team gets most of the sport money, that might just take awhile. And if (and when) they kick up a fuss? oops! Off the basketball team you go, :) such unsportsman-like behavior is unfit for the team.
(The only good thing about how corrupt the school system is is that she can use it to her advantage too.)
The both of them know that Danny suspects them for the sudden misfortune falling on these people, but he doesn't call them out on it. He's kinder than he used to be, but not kind enough to vouch for people who speak badly of him. Sometimes, he might just congratulate them on not getting caught.
Because Danny is their wonderful, hurt friend with a "slightly" Blue and Orange Moral code, and enough scars that people have been calling him a criminal (and worse) since he arrived in Amity Park when he was ten. And they'll be damned if he gets hurt anymore.

I keep imagining this one scene- usually its Jason or Tim or Damian, or all the Batboys or the Batfam sitting there with cultists or the league trying to summon the ghost king- but put it as just Dick who is a little surprised that he passed the requirement of having died so he can be used to summon this eldritch being that rules the dead.
And when he's bound, placed in front of a Lazarus pit and everyone is still trying to reach him, the being is summoned- and Danny just lurches through the pit hacking and spitting and cursing because this ectoplasm is nasty, what have you people been doing to it?
And the cultists are expecting Pariah Dark. They demand he takes them to the real ghost king. And Dick just has to watch this being with snow white hair and glowing green eyes start to float up and take this sheen of other to him as he goes "yeah no".
And Dick is maybe a little drugged, and has a concussion, but he feels he has an excuse for what comes out of his mouth.
"Nightwing, come in. What's going on?"
"B, I think I found your next kid. I'm gonna marry him. Even if he climbed out of a Lazarus pit and looks a little spooky."
"-what?!"

DPXDC Prompt #137
Damian and Jason were teamed up for patrol that night. As they got closer to the robbery something happened and they both fell through a portal that looked way too close to the lazurus pits. Both of them are extremely confused to find themselves in a suburban neighborhood. A library search and disguises put on they realized 2 things they were in another world and 2 scientists were building a portal to another world. They didn’t have much else to go on but it was their best chance to get back home.
They sneak into Fenton Works that afternoon and creep into the basement where they find a place to hide. 3 teens were messing around down here and somehow the girl convinced one of the guys to investigate the giant electrical hole in the wall. He goes in and suddenly there’s a blinding light and a blood curdling scream followed. After a moment both friends leave the room in panic so they don’t see the boy stumble out of the room.
Damian and Jason felt unsettled by the portal and they decided to take the kid and retreat to think of a plan.

What if Batman dies, not lost in the timestream, not a clone, not a failsafe, or gone to an alternative reality, he died, for real. They have his body
The Bat family knew it was something that could happen (with all the conflicts Bruce used to be in, it was more of when rather than if) but that doesn't mean that they would leave it at that, Alfred had already be gone for quite a while, they couldn't also lose Bruce.
So they start looking, not all at the same time nor in the same place or with the same determination, after all some of them have to keep Gotham safe and take the mantle of Batman every now and then to keep the crime rate down but they look nonetheless even if it is to get closure.
One of them (the one you like the most) decide to look for his soul, if they cannot find that he is alive they could find if he is dead, fortunately (or unfortunately), his soul is not in any realm of the dead, so with a new lead, they try to find where is his soul, maybe they could help him get back to his body.
The new lead leads them to a small town called Amity Park, when they arrive they start hearing of stories of ghost and not too long after that they can see them, maybe Bruce's soul really is in here, but they wonder why hadn't they heard of these ghost until now (Maybe clockwork intervention, maybe the GIW).
They try to look for Bruce's soul, but they cannot identify it between the ghost that regularly attack, makes sense, even in dead Bruce wouldn't be attacking or be seen so easily.
They bring a magician to be able to locate his soul (Raven, Constantine, Zatanna, Dr. Fate, Captain Marvel, whoever you want) and they pinpoint his soul to a school, weird place for his soul to be, but they where so close to finding him, to getting all of this over and moving on.
Only to find out, that Bruce had reincarnated, he was a teenager (the same age of Damian or Tim), had family, friend and in general a good life unrelated to being a vigilante/superhero, it's not like they could take this from him.
Danny had noticed the group of vigilantes that had arrived to Amity Park, he didn't know why had they arrived now or what where they looking for, he just hoped they would get away soon, he had way to much on him to worry from a group of vigilantes being overshadowed.

Pretty much my ideal dcxdp coexisting world
Danny had all his canon happen before Bruce and the JL started their vigilante careers
Before Bruce was born or Martha and Thomas even got married
Phantom Planet never happened and the world never realized that they were almost dead in the first place (I apologize for mentioning it)
Danny retires after blowing up the portal and designing a new system of gov for the Infinite Realms (why the hell is that a monarchy anyway? Fighting being a way of communicating AND the way of determining a ruler does not make sense so I'll choose the better one)
Danny still visits the Infinite Realms but mostly lives his life
He still has interesting things happen to him but more because he apparently has a curse placed on him than anything else 'may you live in interesting times'
Danny manipulates the curse by getting into situations on purpose and then resolving them without getting attention drawn to his civilian id and normal life
He keeps track of immortals and big names that deal with death magic so as to lower the chances of being summoned
The more powerful the Realm Being the more powerful the summoner has to be to summon them and with how powerful Danny is there aren't many he has to keep an eye on
Ra's has been losing Lazarus water at a steady rate for over a decade but only now has it become a noticeable loss. The day the that he notices is a Very Bad Day for the League of Assassins (the day Danny lets himself get caught satisfies his curse for 2 whole months)
Danny hasn't aged much at all since he left Amity at 17. He's still short but mimics the effects of age with stage makeup and other tools used by actors to look older they actually are. This is how he meets a certain Alfred P. who remains a good friend even though they never really meet in person.
His parents blow themselves up and wipe their house off the map when tinkering with a device designed to lure realm beings to them. Danny isn't really sorry they're gone. He finds out after leaving Amity that he wasn't really their kid and he wasn't even adopted. They made him in their lab while distracted from their obsession with ghosts then completely forgot they had done so when they refocused on ghosts. His growth chamber (terrible name) was coated in ecto which allowed the device to reactivate and allow Danny to finish incubating into a toddler then (suspicious) it mysteriously popped him out before his the fentons noticed the growth chambers success.
His parents never took any notes on the clone experiment out of the house due to it being a (perceived) failure. After going back to their ghost obsession they completely forgot about it so no one knows. Jazz only found after Danny told her and he only found out after growing older and continuing to look less and less like either of his parents.
Danny finds the notes and that's what inspires him to leave Amity, to start looking for his bio parent. The Fenton's had no clue that the clone they grew was Danny. They dismantled the growth chamber when Danny was four (actually two) and never realized that the toddler they adopted was the clone of wonder woman they made. They never said anything to anyone about Danny being adopted so Vlad has no idea that Danny isn't Maddie's child.
Vlad starts to age drastically after the portals are destroyed and Danny figures out that Vlad isn't a halfa after all. He's just a normal ghost who can prey on people like spectra but with an obsession directed at Maddie originally and then Danny. Afterwards Vlad gets shunted off into Walker's prison because of all the toxic and human crimes he's committed among them brainwashing, mind control and mind wiping various wealthy and not so wealthy individuals into giving Vlad their money and companies.
Ellie has to explore the Infinite Realms (literally Infinite though so she's not confined) only because she can't really produce her own ecto. She has to absorb it from her surroundings so she can wander safely all over the Infinite Realms (so long as she calls for help when she gets in over her head) but not the human realms unless she takes a buddy who can produce a steady stream of ecto for her.
Vlad makes Danny his heir so now he's rich enough to travel even after giving all the people Vlad stole from their money back. It turns out that Vlad was good with making more money once he had it.
just Danny being a crptoid for the entire magical community and them being unable to talk about it if they even know of him
while danny runs a NASA and space account where he talks about NASA's recent achievements, newly discovered stars, planets and new alien races that Earth has been in contact with

The Uno Reverse Adoption Saga (formerly No Title Yet) 6
what's this? a title?? on MY fic?????
First: Chapter 1
Previous: Chapter 5
Next: Chapter 7
Halfa!Trio Au crossover with Batman
Current Characters: Sam Manson, Tucker Foley, Danny Fenton, Jason Todd
Summary: Forced to attend a gala by her parents as she is every year, Sam Manson was resigned to suffer through the stifling three-night gala until something pulled at her core. The something turned out to be a someone. Just who is Jason Todd and can the trio gain enough of his trust to help him before his struggling proto-core collapses?
👻 {Chapter 6 Below!)
Jason was pissed.
To be fair, pissed off could describe him at any given point, though the trio didn’t know that.
“So you just decided ‘hey, rain’ll work’,” he glowered.
The four were in the attic. They’d returned the hostages and the crasher to the main floor for the paramedics and police to find respectively and then withdrawn to temporarily camp out. After a brief introduction of Tucker as Ghouley they glossed over Sam’s name, moving the conversation every which way before Jason had all but demanded to know how exactly they’d worked around the situation.
“Yeah,” Tucker shrugged. “And it did work, didn’t it?”
Jason muttered curses to himself and with their enhanced hearing, the phantoms heard every word. Danny mentally shuffled at the colorful vocabulary and Sam’s snicker echoed in their heads. They weren’t quite used to it because even if they could curse in their minds, they could not speak those words aloud. Curses were used sparingly. It was even more unusual to hear from someone else; back home, no one could swear.
Jason didn’t respond to Tucker’s statement and the frown on what was visible of his face under the mask deepened. “That was reckless. And where is Manes? Four kids isn’t better than three.”
“Uh oh,” Danny thought. Tucker made a mental shooing motion at Sam.
“She’s coming here,” he said.
Jason raised a skeptical brow and Danny hurriedly offered to make a copy and shift to look like Sam. Sam shot him down; he still wasn’t great at duplication. They didn’t need to explain why Manes dissolved into a puddle of goop.
“She’ll be here soon and if not, we’ll go look for her,” Sam settled on bullshitting. Really, while she and Danny went ‘looking’ for Manes she’d switch back to human and voila, cover complete.
“You four have no idea what danger you’re in. Dead or not whatever, you can make your own choices, but it’s irresponsible to shove Manes into this,” Jason said sternly. “And it’s not your job to clean up other people’s messes.”
Not their mess? Maybe that had been true, once upon a time, and they had struggled and even quitted the hero thing at different points over the years. But it was always a Fenton mess, with the offending portal in their basement, and Sam and Tucker’s for daring Danny to do the deed of accidentally turning it on in the first place. They were the cause, so protecting Amity had been their responsibility by default. But now? Danny was the King of the Infinite Realms. All ghosts were his responsibility and far be it for Sam and Tucker to abandon him now. It was unthinkable. So it was their mess, always had been, and now always would be.
“Why wouldn’t Manes help?” Sam scoffed. She swore she was going to punch him, baby ghost or not, if he spouted some nonsense about her being a girl.
“She’s a fucking human kid? And shouldn’t be risking injury like that?” he spat incredulously. “There’s no reason for a teenage girl to be cleaning up the Bat’s messes.”
“Hey! We’re also teenagers,” protested Danny, “and if we can do it, so can she.”
“And how long have you been dead?” Jason shot back rudely. “You could be forty for all I know.”
Danny felt a spike of annoyance.
“Ghosts don’t work like that,” Tucker huffed. He stared at Jason, mentally debating what they could, and should, share with him.
Jason was getting increasingly worked up. “Look, you might be teens, sure. Fine. The problem is that there wasn’t anything that could’ve hurt you, but that’s not true for humans.”
Sam, surprisingly impressed, remarked, “That’s actually really thoughtful. Pretty useless sentiment though.”
“I don’t think he knows that,” Tucker sighed, floating downwards and settling on an old boxy chest.
Well, they weren’t going to tell him they were halfa.
“You’re clearly not familiar with the situation, but all humans who know about us and aren’t hunting us are automatically subject to be hunted,” Sam said, taking a different angle that would still explain her human side’s involvement. “Did you read the acts? The association and ecto-entity aid clauses? Just by knowing us and not wanting us to be tortured thousands of people’s untimely deaths can be swept under the rug. It doesn’t matter if Manes helps us directly or not, she and everyone like her are targets.”
The only reason those parts of the acts were not enforced was because as much as they wanted to, the GIW couldn’t handle all of Amity. They didn’t have the manpower.
The angry frown shifted to a more troubled and less hostile expression. “I- just why?” Jason asked, seemingly at a loss. “Why would that many people risk themselves? Their families? There has to be more to this.”
“Ghosts aren’t all bad and people know it,” Tucker explained gently. “Some of these people have friends and family who’ve come back, some just don’t think it’s right. But truthfully, a lot of people are just too ecto-contaminated to qualify as regular humans anymore. According to the acts.”
“So Manes is in danger one way or another,” Jason muttered.
Jason was oddly fixated on Manes, but he was also just suspicious all around. “And most people agree they need ghosts to protect them from bigger threats,” Danny added cheekily. He figured he’d capitalize on the suspicion and distract him.
“Be back in a bit, we’re going to find Manes,” Sam blurted when she realized what he had, that Jason’s eyes kept flickering over to the ladder. She phased through the floor and Danny followed reluctantly a moment later.
Jason eyed where they’d gone through the floor before asking Tucker warily, “Bigger threats? The hell does that mean?”
Tucker flicked Danny’s presence for leaving him to answer the new line of questioning, then thought back to all the strange things they’d been thrown headfirst into and the different ways they’d learned to handle them lest they sink. “Threats that make artificial rain look reasonable.”
“That doesn’t tell me anything,” Jason growled.
“Dude I don’t know,” Tucker exhaled exasperatedly, though he knew all too well. “Think, like, eternal sleep, mass mind control, evil plants destroying cities, that kind of thing.”
With a dismissive scoff the younger ghost said, “Sounds like JL stuff. I would’ve heard of that.”
Tucker hesitated, momentarily forgetting what JL was before nodding. “Ah, them. Yeah, the events are pretty isolated. A lot of people are interested in keeping this mess under wraps.” Vlad, himself and the Phantoms, the GIW, and most recently, Technus had all inputted their unique brands of high end cyber security, cloaking Amity in a veil that was nigh impenetrable to outsiders. “Even then, the League can never come near ghost hotspots.”
“Ominous,” Sam laughed.
“The vaguer I am, the more questions he asks, the more time you have to look busy,” Tucker replied with the air of ‘I’m doing you a favor’.
Jason, perhaps emboldened by the absence of the other two, snapped, “But that doesn’t explain anything! Why can’t they? Preventing the destruction of cities is exactly what they’re for!”
“Dude, ghosts,” Tucker emphasized. “The acts aside, ghosts have an ability called overshadowing. It lets us possess people. Do you want to deal with a possessed Wonder Woman? The correct answer is no. Nobody does.”
Jason crossed his arms and studied Tucker. He breathed in and out once, and then twice.
“So Manes said the GIW operate more to the west,” he mused, quite a bit calmer. “Where exactly should I avoid?”
“Illinois and Wisconsin for sure, Iowa is a so-so depending on the season. Consider it ‘visit at your own risk’. There’s also a hotspot in Oregon that they haven’t quite picked up on yet but a lot of people are worried that it’s only a matter of time,” Tucker rattled off, the maps of GIW activity zipping through his mind letting him answer easily. “The only exception is Amity Park. Ghosts are really common there and it’s where the GIW got started, but it’s also where they have the least amount of success.”
“Amity Park?” Jason tilted his head. There was a spark of curiosity in him, the kind that made you want to know everything.
“Never search that up,” Tucker advised, knowing intimately all the triggers that search would trip. “I can get you a map if you’re interested in relocating.”
“I think it’s been long enough,” Tucker thought.
“No thanks,” Jason backtracked quickly. “I’m happy in Gotham.”
Sam, on the ladder, switched back into her human form and climbed up the top few rungs.
“Hey guys,” she said.
Jason rose from the box he’d been sitting on and looked her over with keen eyes. “Did you get injured?” he asked with worry.
“No I- gah!”
Sam’s hold on the ladder slackened and Tucker shot over to grab her. If not for him and Danny, who’d been invisible just below her, she would’ve fallen.
The fear was back.
“Sam you have to switch back,” Danny thought quickly. It hadn’t become overwhelming yet but even in the few seconds that she was human it had grown at an alarming rate. Soon, like before, it would spiral out of control.
Sam wanted to but Jason was right there.
“Come on Sam, we’ll figure it out later. Change back. It’s not worth it,” Tucker insisted. Danny had reservations but he shoved them aside. He could deal with Jason if necessary.
“Going ghost!” Sam gasped. The rings enveloped her and once again the fear abated.
“Oh thank the Ancients!” Tucker said.
“Gah,” she groused. “What’s wrong with me?”
“I think you have some explaining to do.”
Three heads swiveled towards Jason.
They really didn’t have to- Sam’s knee jerk reaction was to scowl and say they didn’t owe him jack but… he felt so unwillingly fragile in a way that made him feel like failure, likely unused to situations where he didn’t have an upper hand. That made him fidgety and angry and the little bit of his guard that had fallen rose back up and doubled in height. Tucker winced. They didn’t want to intimidate him. With a sigh Sam made up her mind- what he’d seen was pretty damning anyway.
Danny shifted back to visibility seeing as the gig was up. “Oh come on! We didn’t last two hours,” he complained.
“I’m a halfa,” Sam admitted slowly. “And there are only five of us in existence. So I’d appreciate it if you kept that to yourself.”
“Wait, so what’s wrong?” Danny carefully asked out loud. If there was one secret more well kept than the existence of halfa, it was the existence of their mental connection.
Sam grimaced. “I got hit with that fear stuff. It’s totally shut down my human side.”
Jason wasn’t that easy to divert. “Wait no, back up. Halfa? Explain.”
“Halfas are just that, half human, half ghost, and a well kept secret from the living,” Tucker said, eyeing Jason meaningfully. “Only two humans know.”
Sam, feeling bitter that she’d messed up again tonight muttered sourly, “I can flip between the living and dead. That’s unique to halfa.”
Jazz had known almost from the beginning- she’d figured it out early on and had committed to their corner ever since. Valarie was less accidental; the trio had decided to come clean for the sake of communication after too many close calls and while it had caused a few bumps in the beginning, overall their teamwork with the Red Huntress had improved. Even then, she’d known about Vlad and Dani so the concept of halfa was one she was already familiar with.
“So what am I then?” Jason asked. “I’m human but with a… core.” He was trying to mask his anxiousness at the question but said core was broadcasting his emotions loud and clear.
“We don’t know,” Danny said bluntly.
“But we know someone who might,” Tucker added. “Have you ever wanted to visit the Ghost Zone?”
“We know a doctor or two,” Sam elaborated. “You know, ghost doctors.”
Jason’s core fluctuated with irritation and a helplessness that was quickly converted into anger. “Great. Fantastic. So you don’t know what I am. Well I do and guess what? It’s called a zombie, kids.”
Danny shook his head. “You’re not a zombie, we’ve seen those.”
“What kind of undead are you then?” Jason questioned, staring pointedly at Tucker as he fiddled absently with his PDA.
“Er,” Danny said, looking at his partners.
“He’s kinda one of us,” Tucker said, though he really wasn’t an ecto-entity. Still, with the way they were classed by the acts, there was no difference between them.
“He might find out from another ghost anyway,” Sam acknowledged.
“We’re all halfas, actually. Team Phantom, at your service!” Danny turned back to Jason with an exaggerated bow.
Jason had been cycling through different reactions yet seemed to circle back to anger frequently. A greater intensity rattled him at the new information, converting everything else into utter rage. “Ok back the fuck up. You’re all teenagers?” His words were drenched in dismay.
“There’s nothing wrong with that,” Danny retorted confidently. In his mind all the headlines declaring them menaces and calling their intentions into doubt flashed by. Tucker gave him a mental hug. “He doesn’t know Danny, he doesn’t get it.”
“Yes, an adult kid,” Sam grumbled. “How innocent and unawares.”
“You three threw yourselves into a dangerous situation for no goddamn reason.”
The deceptively quiet statement was razor-sharp and overwhelmed with reverberating sentiments full of pain.
This was, for some reason, quite personal to him.
‘Upset child,’ their internal alarms rang, ‘do something!’
“We know about unnecessary risks,” Danny said at length.
“We just mistook the liminal guy for a ghost,” Sam nodded.
“And ghosts are our responsibility,” Tucker finished. “We wouldn’t have stepped in otherwise. Like you said before, the locals had it under control.”
Jason grit his teeth and then deflated, taking a deep breath. “And you have no one else who could’ve done it? There’s no ghost police? You kids don’t have any mentors?”
“Naw, we’re self taught,” Tucker said proudly. That was the wrong thing to say as Jason’s emotions constricted into a tight ball of frustration and fury.
“We had to step up. No one else would or could,” Danny explained gloomily. It wasn’t like they had wanted to do this. That made the already heavy emotions in Jason’s core even denser.
“Gah. Okay, different topic. How am I supposed to get rid of the fear stuff? I can’t exactly go to a hospital,” Sam asked, changing the topic to something that would hopefully distract the pit of volatile emotion that was growing inside of Jason.
Jason jumped on the issue presented to him, more than happy for the distraction. “Usually there’s an antidote. This is a new variant so it might take a few weeks before an updated antidote is made.”
“Crud,” Danny cursed.
Sam sighed.
“We can say your grandmother took you to the officials and tell your grandmother you avoided the attack or something,” suggested Tucker.
Just as he finished Jason offered, “I could get Bruce to pay for a private physician.”
“Too risky,” Sam dismissed. “Our vitals are different. Besides, there are rumors that he funds the bats and the last thing we want to do is get near them.”
“Hm,” Jason hummed. He seemed to settle on something, resolving to do some unknown thing, before he spoke again. “Lesson one kids, lying. I’ll take the money and move it to make it look like a physician was involved. That way the story holds up. You ideally want three to four layers but in this case, two isn’t a bad place to start.”
“Won’t your dad mind?” worried Tucker.
With a smirk Jason said, “Not at all.”
“Great? But what do you want in return?” Sam asked suspiciously.
“Just tell me how to get to the ghost doctor and we’ll call it even,” Jason proposed.
“Oh. Right, well, that’s a whole other can of worms.”
👻 {Boo!)
“So to recap. Living age means nothing. Ghosts age like trees. You three are independent adults. I’m a ghost orphan because hell if anyone knows. Nobody will care about that and if I go to the Zone, of which there are only two reliable ways to get there and they’re both in Amity, I’ll get mobbed and forcefully adopted and never see earth again. Did I miss anything?”
“No, that’s about it,” Tucker said too cheerfully.
Jason rubbed his eyes and leaned back against the box he’d sat in front of when the trio had first launched into their long winded explanation.
“I can adopt you. It’s… probably the best option anyway,” Danny offered hopefully, the very tip of his spectral tail twitching. “Ghosts won’t try to be malicious but they will forget how humans work. As a halfa there’s no risk of that from me and I’m really strong.”
“We. We’re a packaged deal,” Sam stubbornly interjected.
“Oh boy,” Tucker exhaled. “Guys we’re not ready for this and there’s no way he’s going to agree-“
“Maybe. What does ghost adoption entail?”
Danny was more than happy to answer.
“We’d be your ghost guardians so we’d check up on you. We’d also do health stuff like cycle ectoplasm through your proto-core since it can’t pump on its own yet. And bonding stuff, you know, like play fighting. Ghosts love play fighting,” he jumped to explain. There was a powerpoint with the information and a mini Jazz in his head as he went through it. “But since we have human parts still we can watch movies and stuff, that should also work. Your emotions might get a little off balance since that happens as a core grows and we’d eat the extra. Also-“
“Hang on, eat my core? That thing might be the only reason I’m alive!” interrupted Jason with a recoil.
At the startled anger-fear that he felt Danny rushed to explain but Tucker, who was more composed, spoke first. “That wasn’t what he meant. By eating the extra stuff around your core we’re trying to stabilize it. Ectoplasm is linked to emotion and too much of anything is bad. You can’t feel one emotion all the time but if you tend toward a specific emotion, you might generate too much of one kind of ectoplasm. Think of it like pruning the dead stems off a plant. It doesn’t hurt at all and helps keep a plant, or core in this case, balanced and healthy.”
“I hate that I know that,” Tucker said miserably, thinking of the plant example he’d just used. Sam gloated.
Jason turned that over for a moment before he sighed. “Alright. What else?”
“One last thing. Once- if we do this our cores will start generating stuff for you to eat too. It’s kinda like baby food for ghostlings,” Danny said with a grin at Jason’s perturbed expression.
“Don’t you kids need it? For your own cores or whatever?” Jason questioned with a frown.
Sam almost snorted. “Adult ghosts, remember?”
“And you don’t have to answer now, the offer’s always open,” Tucker placated at the sudden weariness from Jason. “You got lucky with the timing actually- the Christmas Truce is going to happen soon and nobody is allowed to fight during the truce. If you really don’t want to be adopted you could go to the Zone to see the doctors on Christmas.”
“They’ll totally follow you until the truce is up though,” Sam cautioned.
“I can lose them,” Jason declared without a hint of hesitation. “I’m going during the truce.”
Danny sucked in a breath. It was hard to ignore the fact that there was what amounted to a sick, starving child in front of him and he couldn’t do anything about it. It was nauseating. To say he was disappointed Jason opted against adoption would be a gross understatement.
“We don’t know for sure yet,” Tucker said, though it rang hollow. Even without a more experienced eye they could all tell that his core was in a delicate state from proximity alone.
Still, Tucker had done the right thing in giving Jason the options. Meeting the medical yetis during the truce, however, ushered in a new set of problems.
“The party is at my lair this year,” Danny reminded them. “I kinda halfa be there.”
“This isn’t the time for puns,” Sam hissed.
“He’s right though. As the new king he can’t exactly skip out again,” Tucker sighed without any remorse. He was looking forward to it and had been since last year. “Also Danny, you already used that one tonight.”
Danny elected to ignore the critique of his puns. “But it kinda works out, right? The yetis will be there. We have time to set up doctor’s equipment. We just have to ask if they’d be willing to help,” he pointed out.
“And if you ask they’ll say yes,” Sam thought.
Danny felt conflicted after that comment. He didn’t make them do anything but if he so much as mentioned something in passing, they would go out of their way to do it.
“It won’t take all night,” consoled Tucker. “They’ll get to party with everyone else.”
“Alright, works for us,” Sam said aloud. “On Christmas we’ll take you to the Zone.”

The Ghost King (of Miscommunication) Ch. 23
Part 1-12,Part 13,Part 14,Part 15, Part 16, Part 17, Part 18, Part 19, Part 20, Part 21, Part 22
Part 23!
***
Jason knows he should probably still be wary, not knowing much about ghosts - let alone ghost royalty, whatever that means - but he can’t help but feel safe.
He’s felt an overwhelming sense of safe ever since Danny tackled him, but he’d been fighting it the whole time, worrying about falling for some kind of trap.
And okay, maybe it should have taken more than two feet of personal space with a portal and a conversation that painted Danny as more air-headed than malicious but could have been faked. But…Jason wants to extend his trust.
And for the first time in years he can. No Pit lingering in the background to ruin everything at the most inconvenient possible time.
He wants to put his trust in Danny, and he wants that to be the right choice.
He thinks it will.
Danny isn’t a fae; there are no ‘rules of hospitality’ binding him, to Jason’s knowledge, meaning the room and the food - sketchy as it was - and the introductions and explanations were just…him being polite.
Because he wanted to be.
The snowball fights and flight lessons and tours weren’t just part of some malicious plot to get him to let his guard down; they were genuine attempts to help him feel more comfortable or to cheer him up.
So yeah, Jason could give him a chance to explain.
Starting with-
“So what was with the syringe?” he asks as they sit, skeletons floating up dutifully to serve their food.
“Syringe?” Danny blinks owlishly as he settles into his chair after a moment’s pause to stare at the scorch marks - Sam and Tucker taking their place where Jazz and Spike had sat before.
“Back at the Far Frozen, when I was hesitant about the food…” he offers.
“Oh!” Danny smiles,“You mean the ecto-dejecto? It’s basically just fast food for ghosts - and halfas!” He hurries to add, as if Jason knows what that means.
They’ll come back to that.
“Ah, so it wasn’t a threat to eat the food or else,” Jason hms.
Danny’s shoulders droop.
“No, it wasn’t. It was just…another option. You could have chosen neither - relying on ambient ectoplasm would have slowed your recovery but I would have respected your choice. I’m sorry for not being more clear.” He laughs and runs a hand through his hair. “Ancients, I’m surprised you didn’t just blast me with the bazooka.”
“I still didn’t - and don’t - know how to leave on my own yet,” Jason shrugs.
“That’s… fair,” Danny concludes, wincing.
“Give me another day and I’ll have your portal gun ready,” Tucker says, holding out his wrist to show a sleek black and gold watch. “It’ll be just like mine - works based on coordinates, with separate systems for the Zone and the Living World plus the option to save frequent locations under a quick-click menu.”
Jason watches attentively as he presses a button as he speaks, causing what looks like a smaller, better-painted-job-having version of the Wrist Rays’ barrel with a small holoscreen over top of it to pop out of the unassuming watch.
When he tilts his wrist, Jason can see the bar to enter coordinates at the top and his top two frequent locations - ‘The Phantom Palace’ and ‘Technoland’ - just beneath it.
Swiping left leaves the coordinate bar, but replaces the locations list with ‘Grave’ and ‘Monument.’
He clicks one and it shoots open a portal just behind Danny. When he clicks it again the beam zips it closed.
“I can give you a different paint-job or display style,” he offers, showing him how to open the keyboard and scroll before closing it all down and slipping it off of his wrist. “Until then, you can use mine.”
He smiles, holding the portal ‘gun’ watch out to him.
He looks at the watch, then from Tucker to Sam to Danny.
They all smile and nod encouragingly.
He takes it and carefully slips it over his left wrist - opposite the ‘Ray - and it shrinks to fit him just as the Ray had.
He smiles, nerves far more settled now that he can leave whenever he wants.
Realizes he really isn’t trapped here.
They were telling the truth.
(He’s safe)
He still has a million questions he needs answered, but he should probably let his family - and the JL - know he’s okay sooner rather than later.
Bruce - everyone, really - will demand a full debrief if he goes in person. He doesn’t have enough answers for that just yet.
Luckily, they have codes for just such a situation.
“Anyone have paper and pen?”
Sam whips a void-black A4 sheet of paper out of nowhere, and Danny does the same with a snow-white pen.
He snorts a laugh at the swapped colors and scribbles out a quick explanation followed by the codes to verify that he’s not under duress, being controlled, etc.
Then he folds it up, opens a portal just over the batcomputer’s keyboard - sticking his face through briefly to verify he got the right place - and drops it through.
The usual gnawing curiosity can replace their panic and Jason can take his time getting answers.
“So. ‘Ecto-dejecto’ and the air in here are the same as the food? Which is all made of ‘ectoplasm’ which is…what?”
“It's probably most accurate to compare it to carbon,” Sam answers. “Most Living, organic matter - plants and animals both - is carbon-based - at least on Earth - whereas most entities in the Zone are ecto-based. Except it’s more ‘ecto-everything.’”
“Yeah,” Danny continues, “The, ah, ‘air’ is just a lot less concentrated than food - while Ecto-dejecto is more concentrated and is generally only used when we’re in a hurry or heavily injured. We don’t really ‘eat’ ectoplasm in the same way a human eats food, it’s more like, ah, batteries?”
“Batteries.” he deadpans, Sam and Tucker poorly smothering their grins in their drinks.
“Like if batteries had mouths,” Danny tries. “They don’t really need the electricity anywhere specific as long as they, y’know, charge? Kind of.”
“So I’m half a battery.”
Tucker loses the fight against his laughter at that.
Danny smiles briefly, but his face quickly sobers.
“No,” he takes a breath. “What I said earlier is true; you are no more dead now than you were when I found you. But when I found you, you were already what is known as halfa - half a human, and half a ghost.”
Jason’s face steels, anger rising.
“So I am dead.”
“Only half,” Danny smiles grimly.
“You can't be half dead! And if I’m so unchanged then why do I look like this!” He snaps, standing from his chair to gesture at himself. “Because I sure as shit didn’t look like a walking reminder of the worst day of my life before!”
“You can be half dead, I'm half-dead. And you were already a halfa when I found you,” Danny starts, voice empathetic as he floats out of his chair to lay a tentative hand on Jason’s shoulder, “But you were unwell. Your core was barely formed, and it’s a miracle you were still alive at all. It’s a miracle you made it to Frostbite.”
Jason sits and crosses his arms, hearing him out but hating every second of it.
(I can’t be dead)
“You must have an incredible amount of will to have kept yourself in one piece for as long as you did,” Danny commends, following Jason’s lead and sitting back down, “but if you’d remained as you were for much longer your still-forming core would have eventually cannibalized itself in an effort to finish forming, causing a collapse that would have not only killed you all the way, but would have erased you from existence entirely, nothing left but memories.”
“Entering the Ghost Zone gave your core the resources it needed, but all of the tainted ectoplasm you’d managed to absorb slowed things down. Thus all the mornings spent in the tube to filter it out. Like blood transfusions. Except it's more like food instead of blood….”
Danny trails off squinting into the distance.
“Great,” Jason says, regaining his attention. “That still doesn’t explain why I look like this - or what a core even is other than ‘dangerous if poorly formed.’”
“Oh, boy. Okay. A core is the only organ a ghost has,” Danny explains. “Like a brain and heart and liver all in one. Even if you were reduced to nothing but your core, you’d still be perfectly fine - more vulnerable, sure, but that doesn’t matter as long as you’re with any ghost that doesn’t actively want to end you permanently. As a halfa, you have both a human and a ghost form.”
Danny shifts into his own human form at this.
“But ghosts don’t form until after their cores do, so until you were healed enough you couldn’t access your ghost form. Staying in ghost form allows you to absorb ambient ectoplasm and ectoenergy more efficiently…wait.”
His eyes widen as he looks into Jason’s own shocked face.
“Did- do you- Ancients you don’t know how to transform back into a human do you?”
“I do not and would very much like to,” Jason stresses, unbelieving at the whole half-dead thing but just barely willing to hope.
“Okay. Okay. As a halfa you have both a ghost form and a human form - like two sides of a coin. Both are you, but when you’re in one, the other is in a sort of personal pocket dimension. You can swap between them by sort of…reaching for what you want. For example, I have an ice core,” His eyes glow a brighter blue.
“And my core - as most cores are - is located in roughly the same area as my heart. So when I’m in human form, I reach for the spot of cold just metaphorically ‘behind’ my heart-” he transforms back into Phantom “-and pull it to the surface.”
“When I want to swap back into human form, I reach for the warmth of my heart just ‘behind’ my core.”
Jason tries to focus on his chest, but he’s mostly just confused.
He looks up to find a hand offered to him.
“Here, I can trigger your transformation the first few times.”
Jason takes his hand eagerly.
“We’ll do three swaps - human, ghost, human - then you can try it for yourself. For now, just focus on how it feels.”
Rings of light appear around both of their waists this time, Jason is grateful for the large chairs as he suddenly takes up a lot more space than he had.
(He’s alive)
He only has a moment to take in how much smaller everything looks and how cold Danny’s once luke-warm hands feel before the lights are sweeping over them again.
The rings sweep up and down like the light of a photocopier, but he can’t help but notice it doesn’t feel that way.
It feels like a cool gust of wind blooming from a single point in his chest, swirling out until it permeates to the very last layer of his skin.
(He’s dead)
He’d expected discomfort from the cold of the description, but it’s all soothing breeze on a warm, sunny day instead of the arctic winds in winter he’d worried it might be.
Small again. It’s almost comfortable, if not for the sour memories every time he sees his reflection in this form.
And then they’re switching again - he pays even more attention this time, less distracted by the unfamiliar lightshow and determined to learn how to be human on his own.
It’s the feeling of lying in a sunbeam in spring, all warmth and comfort.
(His heart still beats)
It was comfortable, going from ghost to human and going from human to ghost.
(His heart hasn’t beaten in over a week)
It didn’t hurt.
(He’s… both?)
Everything had hurt so much the first time he died. The first time he came back.
It didn’t hurt.
(It doesn’t hurt)
His mask hides the few tears that escape.
He shakes his head and takes stock of his body; he feels different.
He doesn’t feel bad - his body is the same overall - fingers and toes all still move, no missing legs or eyes, etc etc.
No glowing.
Except his arm - which had had another 2 weeks to finish recovering from a break - didn’t hurt at all. He couldn’t feel any of the lesser scuffs and bruises one generally got from tumbling around Gotham as a vigilante/crime lord at night.
He barely registers Sam and Tuckers staring until Sam turns to Danny and says “You thought he was shy.”
Danny throws his hands into the air. “Just because he’s tall doesn’t mean he’s not shy! And he’s from Gotham! You’ve heard what it’s like! I don’t know what happened to him! I try not to judge!”
“Dude,” Tucker starts, “Danny. My moon and stars. My battery babe.”
“B-battery-”
He points to Jason, ignoring Danny’s sputtering protest.
“He is literally Red Hood. The Crime Lord.”
“Moving back towards vigilante, actually,” Jason says absently, checking his weapons - guns blessedly all there and in one piece. And comms are completely non-functional.
“Of course our son would be a vigilante,” Sam snorts, shaking her head with a smile.
“Only if he wants to be,” Danny adds.
“A vigilante?” Tucker asks.
“Our son.”
“Well, both are optional honestly,” Sam adds.
Jason realizes what’s missing: the portal watch.
He reaches for the cold spot in his chest - so much easier to find now that he knows what to look for - and pulls.
It takes a few tries, but eventually the rings - white, he notices, with a tinge of green around the edges where Danny’s had been blue - are sweeping over him again.
He’s left tiny, with only the wrist ray and the grappling hook and brace of batarangs he’d nabbed from the cave, but none of the guns. He enjoys being armed in both forms, so he leaves the weapons and tugs the watch off to set on the table, then spends twice as long scrabbling for his human form, nerves getting in the way of his focus.
The portal watch is still on the table when he’s back to big, beating heart, and fully armed.
He gently pulls the device onto his now much larger wrist, smiling as it flexes once again to a perfect fit.
As a ghost he can fly, and as a human he can portal.
Weapons and escape options for both forms.
He frowns when he realizes he can’t eat with his mask on.
Just because they know his name is Jason doesn’t mean they know which Jason - he shifts back into his ghost form just as he’s thinking about it.
It’s a bit startling, given he hadn’t done it on purpose - even if he’d been just about to - but he ignores that in favor of hastily taking a bite of his glowing salad before addressing the…adoption thing.
“So,” he starts, “Ellie mentioned…being my ‘sister.’ And this is the third time I’m hearing adoption-adjacent stuff…. I feel the need to remind you that despite my small ghost form, I’m 23. And a crime lord.”
Jason wasn’t a fan of the look they shared.
“You might be 23 in human years, but you’re barely a week old as a ghost,” Sam says, pointing at him with her fork. “For which, only the time from core formation actually counts.”
“The basis of ghost culture is combat,” Danny continues. “Ghosts are pretty much as dead as they get - it takes real, significant effort to destroy a mature core - so throwing hands kind of became a way to say hello.”
“But a formed core and a mature core are two different things,” Tucker picks up. “A core might fully form in as little as a few seconds, but it will take anywhere from years to decades to mature. Until then your core will be less durable than a mature one - not much, but enough to be worrying. It’s a bad combo with ‘still acquiring basic powers’ - especially considering mature ghosts tend to have a lot of powers at their disposal.”
“Ghosts with immature cores are called ‘baby ghosts.’ Which is what you are.” Danny adds, damningly. “Picking adult ghosts to stick close to will help your core mature faster and keep you safe from the less-kind ghosts in the meantime. Even the most independent baby ghosts tend to stick with an adult ghost until they’ve at least mastered flight, invisibility, intangibility, and ecto-blasts. As more emotional beings, ghosts also tend to get attached to each other quickly and jump into the ‘we’re family now’ thing.”
“Plus even if you weren’t a baby ghost you could still be dibsed as family,” Sam concludes.
“‘Dibsed’” Jason repeats blankly, choosing to reply to the least embarrassing part of all that.
“That’s the best way I can think of to describe it,” Sam shrugs. “Sometimes ghosts just go ‘welp that’s my kid/parent/cousin/sibling/whatever now’ and roll with it. Danny has, like, 10 ghost-parents - and only two of them are his actual parents.”
“But,” Danny adds, “There’s no pressure to feel the same. You don’t have to see us as your parents or even your friends. If you want to find different ghost parents, we can help you with that. Or if you just want to return to Gotham and be left alone, we can figure something out - send you ecto-dejecto to help with growth or mark safe parts of the Zone for you to portal to in your free time. Plus there’s an emergency button built into the phone - just click the back button five times - if any other ghosts try to bother you-”
“We can also trick you out with all the weapons you could ever need - or want - to make up the difference in powers-growth,” Sam interjects, speaking Jason’s language.
“-Whatever your choice,” Danny continues, “just know that you can always return here - whether you have questions about being a halfa, need help controlling your powers, you need somewhere safe to crash, or just because you want to be here.”
And that’s…a lot.
A lot of emotions.
A lot of answers.
Another dozen questions he wants to ask (such as ‘what other powers am I supposed to expect?’ and ‘Will they show up as randomly - and worryingly - as flight had?’ and ‘hey, I just turned back into ghost mode suddenly, how do I not do that when I’m out in civvies.’ And also ‘what the fresh ~fuck~ was pit rage, then?)
The day is nearly over, his family knows he’s safe by now - there’s almost always someone using the batcomputer (albeit mostly Tim and Barb) - and Jason no longer has any major qualms about crashing here for an extra night.
He doesn’t know how to feel about the whole…adoption thing.
(And it’s harder, now, to ignore the feeling of warmth)
(The feeling of home and welcome in this place he now knows is a set of open arms rather than a gilded cage)
(Now that he knows he is welcome to come and go as he pleases, that there was never any true possessiveness to it despite it starting out as a kidnapping)
(And his core aches to say “Yes. Family. Mine.”)
(Home. Safety.)
(But he has a family)
(He wants his human family too)
But he could always do with more allies.
He looks at Danny, grins, and asks “So about that Bazooka…”

Prompt 147
“It wasn’t my fault!”
It really wasn’t. Natural portals open all the time, and it wasn’t like he was the one driving! They were just testing out some new gear in the Zone, and the motorcycle was for Jazz so she needed to know how to use it!
So really, it’s not his fault they’re stuck in another world until another portal opens, nor is it his fault that they’re getting chased by a bunch of yellow-eyed undead. No Tucker, they aren’t your friends just because they have gold-eyes too- and Sam please don’t ask the plants to stab them, they don’t need ghost gold-eyed creeps after them!

The original Trio
So the thing that was going through my head when I was drawing this is that, there's a new kid and he gets this Mean Girl type rundown of all the clichés in school. Then the new kid sees these three and he's like, "Who are those?"
And Dash is like, "Oh Fenton and his Freaks. Yeah you'd best stay away from those." Then he hesitates, "But if there's a ghost attack, you should listen to them. Don't follow them like a freak. Do as they say, not as they do."
And. My, isn't that familiar, Jason Todd thinks.

i need to get this out of my head before i continue clone^2 but danny being the first batkid. Like, standard procedure stuff: his parents and sister die, danny ends up with Vlad Masters. He drags him along to stereotypical galas and stuff; Danny is not having a good time.
He ends up going to one of the Wayne Galas being hosted ever since elusive Bruce Wayne has returned to Gotham. Vlad is crowing about having this opportunity as he's been wanting to sink his claws into the company for a long while now. Danny is too busy grieving to care what he wants.
And like most Galas, once Vlad is done showing him off to the other socialites and the like, he disappears. Off to a dark corner, or to one of the many balconies; doesn't matter. There he runs into said star of the show, Bruce who is still young, has been Batman for at least a year at this point, but still getting used to all these damn people and socializing. He's stepped off to hide for a few minutes before stepping back into the shark tank.
And he runs into a kid with circles under his eyes and a dull gleam in them. Familiar, like looking into a mirror.
Danny tries to excuse himself, he hasn't stopped crying since his parents died and it's been months. He rubs his eyes and stands up, and stumbles over a half-hearted apology to Mister Wayne. Some of Vlad's etiquette lessons kicking in.
Bruce is awkward, but he softens. "That's alright, lad," he says, pulling up some of that Brucie Wayne confidence, "I was just coming out here to get some fresh air."
There's a little pressing; Bruce asks who he's here with, Danny says, voice quiet and grief-stricken, that he's with his godfather Vlad Masters. Bruce asks him if he knows where he is, and Danny tells him he does. Bruce offers to leave, Danny tells him to do whatever he wants.
It ends with Bruce staying, standing off to the side with Danny in silence. Neither of them say a word, and Danny eventually leaves first in that same silence.
Bruce looks into Vlad Masters after everything is over, his interest piqued. He finds news about him taking in Danny Fenton: he looks into Danny Fenton. He finds news articles about his parents' deaths, their occupations, everything he can get his hands on.
At the next gala, he sees Danny again. And he looks the same as ever: quiet like a ghost, just as pale, and full of grief. Bruce sits in silence with him again for nearly ten minutes before he strikes a conversation.
"Do you like to do anything?"
Nothing. Just silence.
Bruce isn't quite sure what to do: comfort is not his forte, and Danny doesn't know him. He's smart enough to know that. So he starts talking about other things; anything he can think of that Brucie Wayne might say, that also wasn't inappropriate for a kid to hear.
Danny says nothing the entire time, and is again the first to leave.
Bruce watches from a distance as he intercts with Vlad Masters; how Vlad Masters interacts with him. He doesn't like what he sees: Vlad Masters keeps a hand on Danny's shoulder like one would hold onto the collar of a dog. He parades him around like a trophy he won.
And there are moments, when someone gets too close or when someone tries to shake Danny's hand, of deep possessiveness that flints over Vlad Masters' eyes. Like a dragon guarding a horde.
He plays the act of doting godfather well: but Bruce knows a liar when he sees one. Like recognizes like.
Danny is dull-eyed and blank faced the entire time; he looks miserable.
So Bruce tries to host more parties; if only so that he can talk to Danny alone. Vlad seems all too happy to attend, toting Danny along like a ribbon, and on the dot every hour, Danny slips away to somewhere to hide. Bruce appears twenty minutes later.
"I was looking into your godfather's company," he says one night, trying to think of more things to say. Some nights all they do is sit in silence. "Some of my shareholders were thinking of partnering up--"
"Don't."
He stops. Danny hardly says a word to him, he doesn't even look at him -- he's sitting on the ground, his head in his knees. Like he's trying to hide from the world. But he's looking, blue eyes piercing up at Bruce.
Bruce tilts his head, practiced puppy-like. "Pardon?"
"Don't." Danny says, strongly. "Don't make any deals with Vlad."
It's the most words Danny's spoken to him, and there's a look in his eyes like a candle finding its spark. Something hard. Bruce presses further, "And why is that?"
The spark flutters, and flushes out. Danny blinks like he's coming out of a trance, and slumps back into himself. "Just don't."
Bruce stares at him, thoughtful, before looking away. "Alright. I won't."
And they fall back into silence.
Danny, when he leaves, turns to look at Bruce, "I mean it." He says; soft like he's telling a secret, "Don't make any deals with him. Don't be alone with him. Don't work with him."
He's scampered away before Bruce can question him further.
(He never planned on working with Vlad Masters and his company; he's done his research. He's seen the misfortune. But nothing ever leads back to him. There's no evidence of anything. But Danny knows something.)
At their next meeting, Danny starts the conversation. It's new, and it's welcomed. He says, cutting through their five minute quiet, that he likes stars. And he doesn't like that he can't see them in Gotham.
Bruce hums in interest, and Danny continues talking. It's as if floodgates had been opened, and as Bruce takes a sip of his wine, it tastes like victory.
("Tucker told me once--") ("Tucker?") ("Oh-- uh, one of my best friends. He's a tech geek. We haven't talked in a while.")
(Danny shut down in his grief -- his friends are worried, but can't reach him. When he goes back to the manor with Vlad, he fishes out his phone and sends them a message.)
(They are ecstatic to hear from him.)
It all culminates until one day, when Danny is leaving to go back inside, that Bruce speaks up. "You know," He says, leaning against the railing. "The manor has many rooms; plenty of space for a guest."
The implication there, hidden between the lines. And Danny is smart, he looks at Bruce with a sharp glean in his eyes, and he nods. "Good to know."
The next time they see each other, Danny has something in his hands. "Can you hold onto something for me?" He asks.
When Bruce agrees, Danny places a pearl into his palm. or, at least, it's something that looks like a pearl. Because it's cold to the touch; sinking into Bruce's white silk gloves with ease and shimmering like an opal. It moves a little as it settles into his hand, and the moves like its full of liquid.
Bruce has never seen anything like it before, but he does know this; it's not human. "What is it?" He asks, and Danny looks uncomfortable.
"I can't tell you that." He says, shifting on his foot like he's scared of someone seeing it. "But please be careful with it. Treat it like it's extremely fragile."
When Bruce gets home, he puts it in an empty ring box and hides the box in the cave. He tries researching into what it is. he can't find anything concrete.
Everything comes to a head one day when Danny appears at the manor's doorstep one evening, soaking wet in the rain, and bleeding from the side.
#dpxdc#dp x dc#danny fenton is not the ghost king#dpxdc crossover#dpdc#dp x dc crossover#dpxdc prompt#man i just really need more dpdc stuff where danny and bruce have a good relationship. like man i NEED it. like i need to see these two#bonding together. and not in a cracky 'oh danny is a distant friend/cousin/etc' stuff but like. active participants in each other's lives#or as active as can be in this case. i neeeeed these two getting along and caring about one another#this idea came to me like last night and hasn't left since nd it was driving me up the wall to think about both positively and negatively b#i neeeded someone to hear about this or i was gonna implode#danny is the first son#tried to just get the general gist of the idea down but i definitely thought of the idea that bruce lowkey suspects vlad for having a hand#Vlad allows Danny to sneak off because he thinks Danny is alone. if he knew Bruce was there he'd be piiisssed and would put a stop to it#Sam and Tucker are alive they just got ghosted for a bit by danny bc he was in Major Grief and didn't wanna socialize. He couldn't go to#them because he didn't wanna put them in danger via Vlad.#oh that thing he handed Bruce? Yeah that's his ghost core. I have a headcanon (that isnt always applied) that ghosts can take their cores#out of their bodies at will and painlessly and without issue. and its common practice actually to do so bc they can be a not insignificant#distance away from said core before problems start to act up. and its common for ghosts to leave their physical cores at their lairs for#safekeeping because as long as the physical core is fine: so is the ghost. they can reform if their body gets destroyed. it also acts as a#fast travel sometimes. where they can reform at their core in an instant. its not inspired in the slightest by SU but i do see the overlap#most cores are pretty small for safety sake: its harder to hit if its small. and they're pr resilient too but its better to be safe than#sorry. so yeah. danny essentially gave bruce the physical embodiment of his soul and indirectly said#'if anything happens to me at least i'll be safe with you'#danny doesn't know he's batman btw#starry rambles.#was gonna go into danny becoming a vigilante beside bruce but im sleeeepy so i'll do that in a reblog. he's gonna go by nightingale if#anyone is interested. stereotypical but to be frank it is a *good* name imo. has a good amount of syllables and consonants to it#and the bird theme. and since its part of an ancestral name it has even more backing for it being bird-y without being meta

Despite Danny's best efforts, no matter how much time past, Amity Park refused to see Phantom as a hero.
Sure, there were pockets of support, particularly among teens, but most of the town blames Phantom for the property damage, saying if he didn't fight the ghosts then it wouldn't be so bad, to that time he got mind controlled by Freakshow and "attacked" the mayor. It wears him down. It wears Tucker and Sam down. Jazz can only try to support them all.
Then one day, a member of the Justice League visits. Someone minor, and kinda a jerk... maybe a Wonder Twin? Zan? Whatever. They don't investigate; they don't look deeper. They listen to the town folks and declare the ghost hunters, Red Huntress and the Fentons, to be the official heroes of the town.
Worse? Danny Phantom is officially considered a villain to the Justice League. Tuck hacks into the Watchtower and confirms that they have a file (a heavily inaccurate file) about how to defeat Phantom.
Danny doesn't think he can do this anymore.
A few weeks later, a young villain escapes into Amity and demands (begs) that Danny help them escape from the hero after them. No idea who, I can't find a lot of info on teen villains in DC, so let's fudge some ages and make it Kyd Wyckyd from the Teen Titans cartoon. Danny agrees, because to hell with the Justice Losers, and they defeat the hero, becoming friends in the process. Kyd confesses that they became a villain after being ostracized bc of how they look, and they've been trying to avoid villain organizations because HIVE was abusive, but it's really hard to be a villain alone bc of all the heroes.
Sam gets an idea. Tucker agrees with the idea. Jazz is just happy they'll end up making friends.
The next day, the Teen Villain Alliance is formed, ready to assist with any teenage illegal shenanigans their allies might get into.
Some notes:
It's created to be a healthier option for teen "villains" to connect with others and support each other.
It's more important that this is for Teens rather than Villains. They're tired of adult villains taking advantage of them. The TVA would rather ally with a teen vigilante than with an adult villain.
Again, no idea who the teen villains are, but Klarion is definitely here. He leaves the Light for the chaos of the TVA. Maybe Ember is there too?
Timeline wise, this is around when Tim is still Robin, but Damien has arrived at Wayne Manor.
This is because, when it comes time to try to infiltrate the TVA, they'll have a convenient child-assassin who has none of the monitors of a teen hero that Phantom immediately picks up on.
Damien, who at this point has been abandoned by his mother, dismissed and scolded by his father, and has had no success at carving his own place in the family, jumps at the chance. He is then surrounded by peers who don't insult him or try to change his behavior (too much; jazz is trying to help him find healthier methods of expressing himself). He... might not want to continue being a spy.
Danny, Sam, Tuck, and Jazz are the founding members.
Danny reinvents himself as the High Prince of the Infinite, Prince Phantom Dark. He got kingship from fighting Pariah Dark, but since he's still alive, he's only a prince. He steals the last name Dark as an intimidation tatic against those in the know; only Danny would have the balls to claim family with Pariah.
Sam works as a powerless villain, but she might no be powerless? Either way, Danny gives her a bunch of repurposed Fenton tech, and she buys the rest with her parents credit card. She does NOT care if that's traced back to the Mansons. She would choose something goth, maybe something spider related or even bat?
I love Pharaoh Tucker, so I think he should get magic powers? Since pharaohs of old were considered the balance between the real and the divine. He's still a tech guy, now he's a tech and magic guy.
Jazz isn't really a villain, more of a team mom who's planning on using everyone's psyche's as her thesis paper. You know what, that's her callsign, she's Psyche. Sometimes she flirts with Nightwing.
