Who is Aphrodite?

Greek goddess of love, pleasure, beauty, passion, sex, and all things heart-stirring. Her Roman name is Venus. She’s soft and powerful—don’t let the rose petals fool you.

If a goddess can be Unholy, Killer of Men, the Dark One, the Gravedigger, but also The Heavenly, The Golden. The Mother, so can you.

She who was considered perfection, although she embodied violence, unholiness, sin, and bloodshed.

She who was adored and worshipped, she who was chained in Sparta for her skill in battle.

She is the Mother of Love, of Grace and of Harmony.

She is the Mother of Fear, of Panic, of Desire, and Revenge of the Scorned.

She is the lover of war, sister to Chaos and Destruction.

She is a goddess who brings life through love, and death through passion. She is the goddess who protects women, who kills the ones who have scorned Her.

She carries with her the love that drives men to insanity, and the passion that drives artists to create.

She is a punisher, a killer, a warrior. She is a wife, a mother, a goddess. She is Aphrodite of War, and Aphrodite the Heavenly.

She is of the ocean that cleanses, of the ocean that destroys cities and civilizations.

She is the one who will punish those who have scorned you, and she will drip with blood and pearls and gold.

She may be the goddess of love and romance, but do not forget she is sister to Chaos and Destruction, sister to the Furies, lover of War and mother of Fear and Panic.

She is beautiful, she is Heavenly. She is mutilated, and she is Unholy. She can be made of sunlight and flowers, and blood and bones. She is not always beautiful, because sometimes love and passion are ugly and twisted things.

She is holy and a sinner. She is perfection, and she is beloved.

She is Aphrodite the Dark One. Aphrodite the Mother. She is you, and you are her, because you both have holiness, have sin, have love.

Embody not only the pure, sacred, Aphrodite the Golden, Aphrodite the Heavenly, Aphrodite of The Gardens: but also the bloody, sinful, Aphrodite Killer of Men, Aphrodite the Gravedigger, and Aphrodite the Unholy, the Aphrodite that Greece tried to erase, the Aphrodite that was remembered even today because people do not forget the gods that they carry with them.

She will walk with you, and she will share your sins and your accomplishments, and then she will lay you down into your grave with a kiss.

No matter your looks or religion or your birth, the holiness inside you is not simply purity and lack of sin. It is purity and blood and violence and sin and everything that makes you human. That is Perfection, and Perfection is you. That is the message of Our Holy Aphrodite.

will anybody be willing to hear out neglected child reader who was another one of zeus's bastard children. you're out there chasing for your stepmother (hera's attention), whilst zeus just lets you run around without his care, clearly too wrapped up in his affairs. your other siblings aren't as good to you, too, thinking another half-deity isn't worth their time—

so you'd give up, pretty much choosing to bestow the mortal world with your presence instead; because if you can't be loved by your own family, then let yourself be worshipped by passionate mortals instead.

how about romancing telemachus? what if you both learn what it's like navigating through his godly favor with athena, and you with your own powers? what if you have odysseus and penelope be the actual parent-figures you always wanted? their overprotectiveness skyrockets every time you propose to being elsewhere in ithaca, to the point you forget that it's you who has the godly powers to oppose, but how could you when a darker side of them appears every time you allow yourself to be disrespected within their palace?

how about in another place? what are you to many of the great warriors, if not for a forgotten, yet mysterious and whimsical deity? why is your name muttered in all the regions? surely, with just how much you deny your god-like origins, but still manage to capture the hearts of hundreds of suitors, you'd gain quite the infamous name despite your closed-off attitude.

imagine enough attention was garnered on your presence, that that's what was needed for them to finally notice you? but you're not quite the same child who used to pull on their robes, or look at them as brightly as the sun— no, now you deny them of any of your love. your mother, hera, finally sees you and urges you to return to olympus away from the prying eyes of many suitors and back into the domain of safety. she calls you her baby, fuzzing over you even when you openly and spitefully try to rip her hands away from fixing your 'messy' robes. zeus isn't any better, now he calls you sweet names and pretend like he hadn't actively bashed on you for your weakness back when you were begging on his throne for just a sliver of attention? he wants you to sit in between his throne and hera's? you're significantly smaller than him, he's gigantic in nature, and it doesn't help that he treats you like you could be easily squashed by him (which is every damn right possible, and it's intimidating and makes you want to cry).

and there's the issue with the others, too. so many of them used to deny you in favor of focusing on their own domains. now apollo wants to carry you off in one of his chariots to ride off the skies with him while he plays his lyre to you? artemis wants to teach you the way of the hunt under the dark, gloomy skies you used to wish under for a moment of their time? aphrodite used to spitefully shut you out of her own doors, but now she invites you in her room to gossip and play pretend while she coos and braids your hair?

and all the other gods, now wanting to take you away from the underserving - as they say it - mortal realm? that the people who built sculptures of you, who held you more lovingly more than those you grew up with, aren't worthy of your divine presence?

What is it like working with her?

When it comes to Aphrodite, in myth, she was often known as a wrathful and jealous goddess. However, since the myths are just stories and are known to exaggerate some details, this isn’t usually the case.

However, when people mention to others that they are interested in working with Aphrodite, they usually say that you absolutely should not. That she is needy, requires a lot of attention and offerings, that if you don’t do what she says, she will take your beauty away.

This is also not the case.

In my experience as an Aphrodite worshipper, she is very loving, along with being insanely passionate. Also being very vocal about her needs and wants.

Often getting signs from her isn’t at all uncommon. I remember the first few weeks I started working with her, I got an image on my feed that had these two eels intertwined together in a heart shape.

You will often feel connected to sea life, the sea in general, wanting to do things for yourself like dressing nicer and wanting to take care of yourself more.

Here are some things I’ve experienced in my time in working with her.

When I first started praying to her, I stuttered and fumbled over my words. A lot. I was oddly nervous about it? I’m not the type to stutter and fumble often. But beginning to feel nervous and even embarrassed in the presence of the goddess of love? Very normal.

She often enjoys getting milk and dark chocolate, along with roses or any kind of flower, real or not. I gave her chocolates, a fake rose, and a real flower for valentines day and she was insanely happy with it. So much so that her candle rested in a heart shape for a short while.

I often saw butterflies, a symbol of Aphrodite.

I often feel inclined to go to the beach, collect seashells, and do things that make me feel good.

I feel more comfortable expressing love. Before, I was never the type to use pet names for people, especially for friends. But i’ve noticed that I now call people sweet and endearing names. Honeybun, sweet pea, boo, sweetie/sweetness, and babes are things i’ve been saying lately.

She is very honest, often not sugarcoating things. I asked her when my ex first asked me out if we’d last. She said no and gave me explicit reasons as to why. Though I still went out and dated them anyway, and it pretty much ended in the way she said.

She very much enjoys art work of her. I’ve drawn her a few times, asking her to guide my hand in doing so.

Whenever I feel unattractive or hate something about my appearance, she usually makes someone compliment me that day or that week. I was having an off day with my hair, and in that same hour, a girl walked up to me and said that she loved my hair and the style it was in.

Aphrodite’s Blessing Ritual 💖✨

Invoke the power of Aphrodite to awaken self-love, magnetic beauty, and enchanting charm. This ritual honours her through sensuality, confidence, and divine femininity.
