🎧A Guide to the TGCF Audio Drama🎭

With the release of the new season of the fabulous TGCF audio drama, I wanted to make an updated guide on how to make an account, purchase, and listen (with English subs) to it! Hopefully, this will help more people enjoy it and join in on the fun!

As a quick reminder, the audio drama is based on the revised version of the novel! It's a very faithful adaptation, but if you're a new fan, that might throw you for a loop! If you need an overview of the different versions of TGCF, check out this post first!

Part One: Making an Account & Purchasing

The process is a lot easier than you may expect! The site where the audio drama is hosted is "missevan.com," also known as "MaoerFM." They are one and the same!

Check out these infographics to create an account and buy the audio drama. (Due to tumblr compression, they may be difficult to read. If this is the case, please view these images in full-screen and preferably on a web browser for best quality!)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

General Info:

It costs 319 diamonds for the first season, and 359 diamonds for the second season of the TGCF audio drama. This was less than $5 USD, for each season. Future seasons will likely be similarly priced.

Episodes typically release weekly. Mini-episodes/bonus content releases intermittently, and often continues after the main season "ends."

This guide will work for any other audio dramas you want to purchase and support (such as MDZS)! They obviously have different costs, but the process of buying is pretty much the same.

Account/Registration Info:

If you do not see your country/region code listed when making an account, it is unfortunately unavailable there. I do not know any workarounds at the moment, apart from asking a friend/relative in a different country to help you out! If anyone does know other options, please let me know!

Step One of the guide is technically optional, as logging in on the app for the first time will automatically create a new account, if there’s not already one associated with your mobile phone number. I recommend doing that step anyway, as it will ensure that you have a password linked to your account. Several people in the past have reported that they sometimes cannot receive the verification code to log in. (Especially from South America and SEA for some reason.) Having a password bypasses this, if it happens to you.

Unfortunately, it seems that you MUST register with a mobile number to begin with.

Otherwise, you can use an existing Bilibili/QQ/WeChat/Weibo account if you have it. They all require a number for registration too, as far as I know, so you may run into the same problem. They may still be worth trying if you have no other options! Once again, if anyone is aware of other workarounds, do let me know.

Additionally, it’s possible to link your account to an email AFTER you register with a mobile number. (There’s no escaping that, from what I can tell.) You can then use that to log in.

It seems useful to have your email and a password associated with your account, especially in case your country code gets nixed from availability -- which has been known to happen without warning in the past.

The mobile browser seems to prefer you log in with a number/email and a password, rather than a verification code.

LINKING AN E-MAIL TO YOUR ACCOUNT (Optional)

This must be done via web browser, or with your mobile browser set to desktop mode. It’s VERY easy if you use a browser with an auto-translate feature like Google Chrome:

Unfortunately yes, you will need to receive a verification code via mobile number to enable this. The second verification code gets sent to your email, though! (Try not to lose your password, because I'm pretty sure you'll still have to use your phone to verify and change it.) Don't forget to check your spam folder if you don't see it. It will be from "猫耳FM."

Once again, this is optional! I just wanted to include it as an extra avenue for people who may struggle with the verification codes, as they can be finicky. And it happened to me while I was making this section, so I knew I had to....

Part Two: How to Enable English Subtitles

First things first: there are no official English subs for the TGCF Audio Drama. Though I'm fairly sure this applies to all dramas on MaoerFM.

However, there are Chinese (Simplified) subs for each episode.

OPTION ONE: MTL

The main method that non-Chinese speakers have been using to understand the Audio Drama is via MTL (machine translation) on those subs! Browsers like Google Chrome not only have auto-translate, but it works in real time as you watch/listen to the episode.

Make sure that it's turned on and that you've selected English -- or your preferred output language!

Be aware there are TWO types of subtitles on MaoerFM. There are the official subs, and the temporary subs.

At the bottom of the audio player, there is a button labelled "字幕," which is circled in purple in the image below. If it is there, it means that episode has official subs available, and you can toggle them on/off. Meanwhile, the "弹" that the green arrow is pointing to is known as the "barrage." That's the scrolling text that you will see filling the screen. It's other fans screaming and crying in chat. You can turn it off if it feels overwhelming!

New episodes may take anywhere from a few hours to a day or two to be officially subtitled. (The bonus episodes don't have official subs for whatever reason.) In the meantime, there will be subtitlers working on adding temporary subs! I'd advise waiting a little while before listening to a new episode so they have more time to work, and you'll have better coverage!

While official subs are entirely separate, the temporary subs are part of the barrage. So you will have to keep the barrage turned on. (Notice how there is no "字幕" button next to it yet!) Unlike the rest of the barrage, the subs will be stationary, color-coded, and at the very bottom of the window -- so they're easy to differentiate.

However, since the barrage can be a lot if you aren't used to it, there is a way around it.

Hit the settings menu (blue circle) and block the scrolling comments. You can also turn off the top ones, but just make sure not to turn off the bottom ones -- because those are the subs!

DO NOTE that this all works best on desktop! If everything's gone correctly, you should have something like these:

Right -- regular view, temporary subs Left -- full-screen, official subs

It's possible to get this to work on mobile if you enable desktop mode in your Chrome app. You will probably need to refresh a few times after that, or open the page in a new tab to have it work properly. Then it's the same steps as above!

Right -- landscape mode Left -- portrait mode

The scaling on mobile can be troublesome, and I have noticed that the auto-translate is slower than on desktop. It seems to take an extra second or two to work on each line -- whereas on desktop it's pretty instant -- and that can get annoying, especially in fast-paced scenes.

This does not work for the mobile app! It is for the website ONLY!

If the translation stops working, refreshing usually fixes it.

There are potentially other options to using Chrome. Any browser that has an auto-translate will work, assuming it's as quick as Chrome's. If anyone has tried other browsers and seen success, please leave a reply!

OPTION TWO: FANSUBS

TreasureChestSubs here on tumblr have been doing high-quality fansubs for several audio dramas, including TGCF as of recently! However, at the time of making this guide, their TGCF translations currently only cover the first few episodes of season one. You will need to request an invite to their Discord server via the form in their posts. Please do check them out if you're interested.

I don't personally know of any other fansubbers who are actively working on the audio drama right now. But I do want to mention that Xyra_Rei on twitter has a Discord server where they share some translated snippets from various episodes. There are other great resources by fellow fans, too. So recently I've been seeing a lot of posts in the audio drama community of either 1. People asking for advice on editing their shows or 2. Giving advice, but usually it's through text without any audio examples. I love both of these posts, but have been thinking that since Tumblr is the only social media site that lets your share audio without visuals, that it might be a good place to do some sort of audio drama show and tell with audio from shows. Like each week there would be a prompt like "how have you created tension through sound design" or "what was one of the most challenging scenes you directed" and people could answer with clips from their shows. I think it could be a cool way to learn from each other since formal education for audio dramas is rare, plus it might help people find new shows. It's still an idea at this point, but I may or may not have started writing some weekly prompts lol.

PS I'm absolutely terrible at naming things, so if anyone has any suggestions on what to call something like this, I'm all ears 😅

As a queer drawn to the faith and trying to deal with the messiness of entering into everything, I've been trying hard to read more of the Book of Mormon because I only have a very vague understanding of it's Whole Deal, but executive dysfunction, ADHD, and honestly, a million other excuses are making it very difficult. Are there any good resources for walking through the fundamentals? Childish but I feel like I'm disappointing the Lord if I'm not more on top of this.

Hi anon! I totally get it and yes, I can think of a few ideas!

If you're looking for ways to understand the BoM (or even just general doctrine) from more of a bird's eye view:

I hope you don't find this silly, but when I was a kid, the church published an illustrated children's version of the BoM that's obviously way quicker to flip through. It might be harder for you to find those exact editions I read as a kid if you don't have ready access to a church library, BUT I found this!! It's (almost) the ENTIRE BoM illustrated and summarized and it's online!

Looks like they put out videos too that summarize the BoM beginning to end. Here's a link to the video series. I haven't seen these, so I can't vouch for them, but they might be helpful! Similarly, there's a BoM in 60 seconds video you might find helpful.

If you'd benefit from a schedule, the church is currently studying the BoM in sunday school! The past few years, we've been using a study guide called Come Follow Me with weekly assigned reading chapters. I've actually been working on posts about CFM as they relate to queer mormon theology, but I haven't had much posted yet since I've been having a rocky start to 2024. As things improve, I'll be able to hopefully even establish a schedule on this blog!

I'm not sure if missionary lessons is something you're interested in at this point, and it's definitely not something you ever need to do, but the missionary lessons themselves are a pretty good doctrine intro if you're looking for just Mormonism 101 in a digestible way. The missionaries teach out a book called Preach My Gospel, which is available right here. You'll be interested in the lessons, which are found in Chapter 3. If you just scroll down, you'll see some of the links are labeled Lesson instead of Chapter--just click on those bad boys. And if you have any doctrinal questions, I'm always MORE than happy to talk about the church! You'll probably get a faster answer DMing me personally at @logans-mormon-blog, but I'll always answer asks here as soon as time permits.

If you're looking for easier ways to finish the BoM from beginning to end:

The BoM on tape. The church has an audiobook version available on the Gospel Library app and other audio apps like Spotify.

The Reader's Edition. If you can get your hand on a reader's edition, a lot of people find this is an easier way to plow through the BoM. What's special about this one is that it's formatted not like scripture but like prose, and it really does change the reading experience!

I don't know if this helps any, but I struggle with some of the same issues as you and I'm always bitterly disappointed when I'm not able to move mountains. If I had my way, I'd be the most well-read scriptorian of all time and this blog would be updated constantly. But life often doesn't shake out that way. I spend way more time than I want to with my brain entirely burned out of my head. So you're not alone, if that's any comfort. I think God gets it--he made our brains, after all, and knows how hard it is to wrestle with. It's easier said than done, but don't beat yourself up. God loves the both of us and he's the most perfectly patient person who's ever lived. He's not frustrated or disappointed with our efforts. Religion exists, in my opinion, to help improve and enrich our lives, not make them more challenging OR even to make them perfect if we only could just run fast enough. I too wish I could be more diligent and on it, but shit happens, right? And we're not on earth to be perfect, we're here to be happy and to learn. When Joseph Smith was translating the BoM, God told him "Do not run faster or labor more than you have strength and means provided to enable you to translate; but be diligent unto the end." D&C 10:4. We're doing our damndest, and that's all God even wants from us.

I'm Dany. I run other Update Account blogs on tumblr and I've been watching Redacted since late 2021, and I've been involved with the fandom since summer of 2022.

Do you update stuff related to the Patreon?

Yes and no. This will be a situation to situation thing. However, I will not, ever update about anything that is posted behind a paywall for a reason. I will not disrespect Erik's wishes, so I won't post about BA's, certain upcoming content, links to private streams, etc... (if you have any specific questions about this feel free to ask!)

How do I start watching Redacted?

The answer to this will defiantly be different from person to person, but personally I started with the "Everything" Playlist, it's all of the videos in a playlist in the order of release. But if you don't want to start with that, you can start with character/story playlists. Starting with either Freelancer Season One (Gavin, Lasko, Damien, & Huxley), Vincent, or David and explore from there! There really isn't a "right" way to watch Redacted, so whichever way you choose will probably be best for you :)

There’s a Jurassic Park Daily?

Yes! It works a bit different than the other Dailies (Weekly etc) because Jurassic Park is still under copyright protection. So instead of getting parts of the book via E-Mail the reader has to get a copy of the text/book/audio/whatever themself and we follow along a calendar. (We read a chapter every two days.)

@jurassicparkdaily hosts it and you can get more detailed information there + they post reminders which chapter we're currently reading and where we currently are in the book. @bliss-bliss-bliss-bliss also made a very good explanation post here. Maybe that'll help more because I'm not too good with words 😶

We're still very much at the beginning (as in they are not even in the park yet) and it should be more than possible to catch up!

In 2021, over a decade after being in a conservatorship, singer Britney Spears posted a furious rant about her mother Lynne on social media. The singer was born to Lynne, a school teacher and Jamie, an alcoholic building contractor in a small town in Louisiana.

But it wasn't long before she set off on the global road to fame at the age of 11, when she landed a role in Disney's The Mickey Mouse Club, along with fellow future stars Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling.

In Britney's recent post, she claims her mother 'thrived on drama' and that she would argue with a 'drunk' Jamie 'every night of my life.'

Jamie's brother, Willie, told an outlet that Jamie would often get drunk and argue with Lynne, and that once he even tried to 'drive off with Britney' during an argument.

Britney says her father Jamie was abusive to both her and brother Bryan.

"My brother was a football player. And my dad was really, really hard on him when he was younger, really abusive," she alleges.

Britney adds that her father 'controlled everything I did' but that she 'had to go along because I knew they could hurt me.'

In 1979, Lynne reportedly filed for divorce and tried to obtain a restraining order against Jamie after an infidelity, but the divorce filing was withdrawn shortly after.

As a child, Britney would often retreat to her aunt's trailer nearby to drown out the noises of her parents fighting.

When they finally divorced in 2002, Britney says she was thrilled, saying, "This is the best thing to happen to our family. I wish it had happened 10 years ago. Even when I was a baby, they argued. They do not get along."

Jamie also got sober in 2004 after years of alcohol abuse. But then in 2007, after a public battle with drug abuse, a divorce, a custody battle and her family fighting for control over her, Britney spiraled quickly and was entered into a conservatorship. Britney says her mother was the mastermind behind it, with her father controlling every aspect of her life.

Although the conservatorship was initially supposed to be temporary, it was extended indefinitely and left Britney under the control of her father for the next 13 years, with him managing everything from her career to her weekly allowance, and requiring her to be on birth control.

In 2021, after learning that Jamie would be abandoning his role as conservator, Britney blasted the conservatorship itself as a 'family business' and thanked Jamie for 'exiting my life and finally allowing me to live mine.'

Following the removal of Jamie as conservator, Lynne made a public statement, saying, "It is clear to me that Jamie P. Spears is incapable of putting my daughter's interests ahead of his own on both a professional and a personal level."

Jamie then fired back in response, "In stark contrast, it appears that Lynne is the one incapable of putting her daughter's interests ahead of her own," going on to accuse her of being an absent mother.

Britney then said, "My dad may have started the conservatorship, but what people don't know is that my mom is the one who gave him the idea," adding that her father 'was not smart enough' to have come up with the idea on his own.

Britney then added, "She [Lynne] secretly ruined my life. And yes, I will call her and Lou Taylor [former manager] out on it. So take your whole 'I have no idea what's going on' attitude and go f**k yourself!"

Britney later said in an uploaded audio clip, "I heard when reporters would call her [Lynne] at the time and ask questions of what was going on, she would innocently hide in the house and she wouldn't speak up. It was always like, 'I don't know what to say. I just don't want to say the wrong thing. We're praying for her.' My mother could have gotten me a lawyer in two seconds if she really wanted to help me."

She continued, "My friend [Jansen Fitzgerald] helped me get one in the end, but every time I made contact with a firm, my phone was tapped, and my phone would get taken away from me."

Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp and The power dynamic part 1

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp's relationship is filled with abuse, heartbreak, forgiveness but most importantly it was a power dynamic that should've been looked into during the VA trial. While anyone can be a victim, it's worth noting that the most important into looking at abusive relationships is where does the victim and abuser stand in power dynamic. Not matter what age or gender but rather the status they are shown. When Amber Heard and Johnny Dep met. It was the year 2009 and they met on set for a movie called The Rum Diary which amber was going to starred in. Johnny Depp was also starring in the movie, but he was also the producer. When they met Amber was only 22 while Johnny was 46. I remember back in tik tok, a girl name Sophia posted a video where she had a 15 year old amber and 38 year old Johnny Depp. She used the audio, "pedo-pedo-pedohillia".

The reason why I bring this up was the amount of hate Sophia and people really believe that she didn't know what she was saying and how amber and Johnny had never met during the age. What Sophia was showing the big age gap between the couple and why it's so important. So when they do meet for the first time, Johnny Depp was closed to his 50s while Amber heard was nowhere near her 30s. There was also workplace harassment going on set of Rum Diary.

Amber's testified that Johnny Depp actually kissed her and even confirmed that he even used tongue and he even kind of picked up the back of robe and said Yum. Johnny Depp was still in a long term relationship with Vanessa Paradis and had 2 kids with her.

The part where it says that he gifted her a vintage bicycle. She probably saw and wanted one so he probably gifted it in the act of kindness. But I can't help but feel like it was to infantlise her as a child and reminding where she stands. Johnny Depp kissing her without properly warning her and him doing things that she appeared of not consented to. It shows how Depp isn't different to the likes of Harvey Weinstein. Where both men decide to abuse their power by targeting new actresses. While Amber may have been the first to use the term 'abuse' to describe her relationship with Johnny Depp. She isn't the only ex to speak out about his controlling and jealousy behaviour. Ellen Barkin was another person to say that Johnny Depp was abusive and saying him throwing a wine bottle towards her as an example. Meanwhile his other exes while have opened about their relationship who he was like never said abuse.

This could be why Johnny Depp had more power dynamic out of all the women he dated, while yes Ellen Barkin was older than him. His status is shown that he had the power over her. He was a famous a list actor and she an actress in her own right. She and amber don't have connections to powerful and that includes paying off gossip websites. Johnny Depp's late bodyguard Jerry Judge tried to paid off a gossip website about the injured finger incident because his team may thought the people were gonna find out why. Another example is that after him and Vanessa broke up. The gossip magazine known as US Weekly. Published their break up and basically tear down Vanessa as it's her fault which could be a reason why Vanessa never went into fall detail on what her relationship with Johnny was.

The person who also published the article was also good friends with Johnny Depp. Which shows how Johnny and his team have been paying gossip website to trash their exes in order to keep them silent. It's work for the most part. So when you look in the relationship itself, it doesn't make sense on how amber could get away with the things that he accused her of doing. From her supposed open affair with Elon Musk to her violence towards him. The people that she was always around was his bodyguards whom are not only on his payroll but also lied and protect him by not intervening when Amber is being abused and using DARVO against her.

Hello. This answer is about to be super long. My bus home from work got stuck in a ridiculous amount of traffic. Plus, you got me ruminating on this all day at work (Outside the millions of phone calls I was supposed to make. People responding to an email you sent them? Revolutionary concept if you asked me!) and think I’ve decided firmly on, and hear me out on this, “No Plan.” 

That song to me is about not worrying where things are going to go (The sun’s going to go out! Who gives a shit!) and to not sweat the small stuff. And I guess in this context, it’s about being a little worried about something new, like a relationship that has a lot of shit going against it. It’s about enjoying the little things that you do have. The “I think you’re worth at least trying,” or describing this love as “shiny and new, like a toy to be played with, nervously discovering all the nooks and crannies as time goes on.” 

(Yes, I am quoting myself. I am a very self-centric person. I am sorry)

Also now I’m head cannoning that he texted her: Did you know the sun’s going out? After watching that talk and that’s when she hit him with the I like you. A lot. Too much, actually. What better time to confess your feelings for a dear friend than also getting him out of a doom spiral? 

Anyway, one day she just gets texted an audio file with just “🖤” (the black heart emoji, which I’m sure is just one big Carly Rae Jepsen reference) out of the blue. It’s a messy, unpolished demo. 

And when she doesn’t respond immediately since she’s taking it all in, he texts again:

They have a “Don’t bother me while I’m working,” on that list of rules, (“I wouldn’t ask you to help me with an Excel formula, would I?”) so it’s sort of rare she hears anything before it’s finished on purpose (not every wall can be reinforced with soundproofing material). It’s a special moment.

Also, half of me wanted to answer this with “Sunlight” but only because that’s my favorite. But it also can be read as putting too much into something, especially with the entire 3rd verse comparing the love being had to the Icarus story, it almost sounds like it’s bound to end in tragedy (a lot of his songs do tbh I could write about that for days). 

But, I do love the lyric “know that I would gladly be the Icarus to your certainty” so much. Need me someone like that LMFAO. 

Anyway, as for new stuff? I’m currently 3 chapters deep (of 10! and halfway through the last chapter, ironically) with an idea I’ve had for a while now that I’m really excited about. It’s pretty dialogue heavy and is set around a weekly get-together. I just don’t want to post any chapters until I’m finished because then it would never get done. 

I did almost write a threequel (is that the right word?) to the first two stories, but the dialogue was too similar and they fit better in the chaptered idea. That one was about them revisiting a place they took a trip together as friends and why nothing happened between them that first time around (spoiler: Andrew was too high and too drunk to properly process feelings and his idea for them getting together comes off as more of a joke. The next morning he's got no memory of their argument, so back to square one they were!). They were probably going to get engaged at some point. Good for those crazy kids! I wish them the best!

Six players looking for a fun but serious DM with a well thought out campaign who's open to some homebrew.

Last night I made a post about my group on Roll20 finally being done with our original DM but not wanting to split up as a group, as we enjoyed playing together. We’ve set up an LFG to find ourselves a new DM who would be interested in take on our group.

We’ve played together for roughly two months now and got nowhere story wise, thanks to our DMs guidance. So we’ve come to the general consensus that we’ll be making new characters or at the very least we’ll be starting our characters over from scratch. We’re open to a new campaign setting and are excited to experience new adventures from a new DM.

Anyone interested will have to be okay with homebrew to some extent as several players have characters that are built using homebrew.

Likewise, anyone interested must be welcoming of LGBTQ+ individuals.
