Imagine all the Hale kids plus their cousins all at the park and kid stiles is there playing with kid Cora and her cousins then they make Derek play with them. Derek is classic middle child. He’s older than the little kids but younger than Laura and the other cousins. Stiles absolutely loves playing with Derek. Sometimes it’s hard to keep up with the werewolf kids and even the human ones too but Derek stays behind with stiles until he catches up. Then when it’s time to leave Talia calls over the kids with a loud whistle (lol my mom actually does this) and all the kids all start herding back to the car, including stiles who is just following along. It takes Talia when they’re half way home to realize that she took an extra kid with her, she didn’t even smell him cause they’ve all been rolling around him all day. Good thing she knows Claudia so she won’t be too freaked out.

She gets half way home and realises there’s 11 heartbeats in the back seat when there should only be 10 (I know, what car fits 11 kids, we’ll, they’re small and children - especially werewolf pups - have no regards for safety). She pulls over and turns around to see stiles sitting between Cora and Derek with a big smile on his face.

I like to think that Talia, Noah and Claudia grew up around the same time and know each other well, or maybe Peter caused a lot of trouble growing up and Noah was a new deputy that often had to deal with him (like Parrish with Stiles), so she knows Stiles and just drives him home. Chances are, Stiles snuck out of the house to go play at the park in the first place.

Imagine Stiles meeting Derek when they're both young. But Derek is not a human at the time, so Stiles doesn't actually know that he's met Derek before.

Derek has always been more in tune with his wolf side than anyone else in his pack, maybe except his mom who is the Alpha. So his retreats are almost always seclusion as an actual wolf, and everyone in the pack knows it. It's not unusual for Derek to come back from school, neatly keep his shoes/bag in their proper places, and then go out to the woods. He's normally back in an hour, max two... but one day he doesn't.

Stiles, who hasn't even hit double digits yet in age, has pieced together that his mother is very, very ill, and that she's going to die soon, and that his parents are trying to keep this from him for whatever reason. So he needs a safe place to be upset, to be angry, which he gets because nobody goes to woods, right? He's pretty sure the closest people near there would be the Hales, the people who everyone in town gossips about, but none of them actually have a single clue about the family.

So he goes to the forest, and cries. He beats a tree, gets hurt, cries again. He keeps doing this until a little wolf comes out of the bushes and scrutinizes him.

They become instant besties.

Derek only came out because he heard a child crying, and now that he's with the child, he can't just leave him, right? The child is upset, like, so much upset, so he follows the boy — Stiles — home, and then stays the night, because he just... can't seem to leave Stiles.

Meanwhile, the Hales are freaking out. Laura and Cora are hysterically looking for their brother, while Papa Hale is cycling furiously between anger and worry — "I told you, Talia, that letting him go out in the forest alone was a bad idea!" "OH MY GOD my son looks like a literal puppy in his wolf form, WHAT IF SOMETHING ATE HIM?!" — with Talia doing the same, though she's a little bit calmer about than is. Peter, though, is sitting quietly in the corner, laughing internally at them all, because he was there with Derek in the forest (out of Derek's sensing range like always) and saw his nephew leave with the little boy.

Now cue to future years, and Peter commenting something like "Nephew, I liked you better when you looked like a puppy," and Stiles stilling because he'd always thought how uncanny the resemblance was between Derek's wolf form and that wolf from his childhood. And also, didn't Derek learn to full-shift recently?

(Needless to say, there are a few revelations — one of them being that Derek could not full-shift when his anchor was anger — more than a few sappy "We were always meant for each other" and even more fake gagging on their pack's side).

Ah, the angsty fluffiness. Sigh. Now I want a full fic like this \○/

the fact that we never see younger, never-broken-a-law-ever Derek Hale reacting to Stiles speedrunning every crime ever is a travesty

Okayyy another one, exact same thing. Young Derek goes with Stiles to Scott's house to wait for him. Goes like this: Stiles opens the door to Scott's house, with a younger version of Derek following. "We're just gonna wait here for Scott." Stiles gestures around with his pointer finger. "We're gonna sit here quietly and we are not gonna call or talk to anyone." The lanky pale boy stated putting emphasis on the 'anyone'. The younger version of Derek follows, "Do I talk to you?" he asks. "No." "Good." "Fine." Stiles agreed, getting annoyed. "Who's gonna talk to him?" Derek asked gesturing towards Scott's dad, who was holding up a brown paper bag, clearly filled with takeout food. Stiles made a sound of surprise which turned into an unsatisfied hum. "Are you getting taller?" He asked rhetorically while gesturing with his hand at the man. "What are you guys doing here?" The McCall father asked. Younger Derek glances at Stiles exasperated expression while answering. "Waiting for Scott." "I bought extra, you guys hungry?" Special Agent McCall, Scott's dad asked while placing the takeout bag onto the table. "Yeah." "No. No we're not hungry." Stiles insisted. "No, I'm starving." The younger version of sourwolf stated. Stiles points at Derek. "Neither of us are hungry. Thanks, though." The Stilinski kid said with a slight smile. Agent McCall, nods and puts his hands in his pants pockets. "Okay, well if you're not hungry Stiles. You're friend can still eat with us." Scott's dad said. "What's your name?" "Derek Ha-" "Derek Hall," Stiles pointed to the younger version of Derek while the confused werewolf gave Stiles a weird look. "Its uh... my boyfriend Derek Hall." Stiles wrapped his arm around Derek's shoulder, with an awkward smile. Young Derek stared a little dumbfoundly at Stiles before smiling awkwardly too. "From eh... Mexico, so." Stiles pronounced the 'x' like a 'h', as he patted the shoulder his arm rested on before withdrawing his hand. Scott's dad pursed his lips and nodded. "Es usted natural de Mexico, Derek?" "Oh my god." Stiles expressed as he both realised what he had said and how Agent McCall was speaking Mexican to Derek. "No soy nativo, uh... sino que pase un monton de tempo alli." Derek replied while Stiles was looking more shocked and confused by the second. "Fantastic." Mr McCall praised. "Eggroll?" "Hell yeah." Derek said with a genuine smile. "Hahaa." Stiles laughed drily, in disbelief that A, he had called Derek his boyfriend and Scott's dad actually believed him and B, that he was lucky enough that Derek spoke Mexican.

Then during the dinner, Scott's dad asks about their relationship and how they met. Later when Derek confronts Stiles, he asks about being boyfriends because when Stiles lied about that there was no telltales.

I love that Eli's teenage rebellion manifests in him intentionally turning into Stiles. First the flannel, then the lacrosse, then the sneaking out, and finally, the jeep. You just know he does all of this to piss Derek off.
