it was 1am and i was reading a longfic thinking “eh, might have to stay up a bit late, but i can finish this, im already on chapter 12” 

then i actually checked the chapter length and it was not 30 chapters long like i thought it was, it was 90. so uh-

sometimes I wish I were the mangaka of a popular mainstream shounen animanga so I could make the main character actually in love with his best friend rival and watch the fandom chaos that ensues

as an aroace who does enjoy media with a bit of romance, i often find that i’ve somehow engaged in a brutal war with myself, especially if the relationship is somewhere in that middle ground where it could be interpreted as either.

basically one side of my brain says i absolutely do not want them to kiss and the other side is frustrated that they havent already.

there’s something amazing about that specific type of relationship between two characters that isn’t quite platonic but not explicitly romantic, either.

it’s almost as if it’s something more, something that can’t truly be described with words, something that shouldn’t be described with words.

it’s love, of course it is. but love is too vague a term, too general. this is a special type of love, one that drives them to sacrifice everything to keep each other safe, to avenge each other, to make each other happy– they need each other, like two perfectly fitting puzzle pieces.

some people would call them soulmates, i suppose.

imagine my confusion when i, someone who hadn’t finished not me and was thinking more along the lines of gramblack, stumbled onto tumblr and found a bunch of toddblack posts

i love it when powerful, intelligent characters fall in love with each other, especially amidst a conflict, because those types of characters are often so seemingly invulnerable and untouchable

yet have two of them fall in love and suddenly neither are quite so invincible anymore. they’re each other’s achilles heel. their weakness. 

and they know this. maybe their love will be their downfall. maybe it will all end in pain. the danger is there. 

but it doesn’t matter, because they can’t go back, and they don’t want to go back anyways.

but it would be pretty cool if there were a revamped version of the Hunters

where gender didn’t matter so it was basically a group of immortal warrior aroaces

found family at its peak
