I think the easier way to give some tips is by showing my own process.

(I won't explain here the basics of shading, but if you want I linked a tutorial down at the end of this.)

First off, the program I use is Krita (but any program is ok 👍✨) And here's the brushes I use:

I'd say use at least two brushes. A soft one and a harder one.

To show you I'll use this doodle I did of Murder!Sans (by @/ask-dusttale)

First, flat colors.

Then start shading on a new layer and put it in Multiply mode, then change the opacity at your liking. Don't use black for the shadows! Use a dark color. I usually use a purple or a brown.

Now with the same color, go on a new layer (Multiply mode), and add extra shadows where light has trouble reaching. This gives more depth to the drawing. (To make this process easier I use the Select Opaque option, by right clicking on the Base Shading layer, down in the menu, and then paint on the new layer)

Now fill the canvas with the light's color (or do like me and duplicate the Flat Colors layer, and recolor it if you want the light to be only on the subject). I'm using yellow since it makes a nice contrast with the purple. Put it in Pin Light mode and change the opacity at your liking.

Now I- I can't explain what "Bouncing Lights" and "Sub-Surface Scattering" are, so... go see on internet :''D Basically slap some red and blue over the shadows layer in Overlay mode and voilà

It'd be more noticeable with less light but trust me, it's good

Now let's talk about ambience. We can create many different scenes just by playing with the light and shadow layers! Change their colors, change the blending mode, play with 'em and see what you get:

Also I suggest studying how color schemes work (I'll link you a video down below). I uhh actually kinda suck at color schemes XD but having at least a basic understanding of them it's useful.

Today I went with my friend to his mums house to help set up her new vr headset and ended up walking home with a bag of wool, a bunch of hooks, and 2 kinds of loom xD

She's a HUGE crafter with rooms full of her creations and a bunch in her garden made with various different crafting mediums over the years. It's all super impressive seeing it all! I asked for an opinion on a craft I could zone out doing like I do with my beads and she suggested knitting with a loom and she just so happened to have everything I'd need and offered to let me borrow her tools to test if I would enjoy it :D

I've been messing around with a super old version of RPG maker for the last 3-ish years and have made a game with a decent amount of content and features for it being my first attempt. I enjoyed using, but the tilesets always gave me a headache, so I didn't really make anything super cool.

Well, a couple weeks ago, I was introduced to Game Maker.

I started following a tutorial and got some basic stuff done and ho boy, my ego exploded. The second that first video was finished, I was already importing and editing my old character sprite sheets and tilesets.

AND THEY ACTUALLY WORKED!!! Whaaaaat???? XD

Well, three days of not eating properly, watching the same tutorial over and over, and a overcast walk with ambient breakcore later, I have unfortunately had an awesome and somehow, cohesive, idea:

A Yume Nikki inspired type dreamy horror game, based around my oc's childhood. It would be so cool to be able to highlight his escapism from life as a kid, him trying to avoid the horrors of his reality through dreams, imagining these beautiful places that he's always read about, but it being wrong, nothing quite terrifying, but definitely not right. Showing the steady decline as things get worse and worse before he wakes up, right back where he started, in that same room, right back to the terror.

It would be so cool!!! I haven't been able to write in any childhood things in my book because of some established plot points and mostly likely won't find a good opportunity to bring it up later, so it would be perfect!

I have this huge list of scenes and events I want to make, along with a list of tiles and this really cool animation idea, but I'm still over here screaming because I can't get my dialogue code to work properly...

“Awww, you are embarrassed. That’s so cute!” You reached out to pull on his pink cheeks but Thanos quickly swatted your hand away in protest and moved past you to try and hide his toy back inside the drawer. You stopped him by grabbing his wrist. “What do you even need that for when you have me?“

Your boyfriend sc slightly and scanned your body for a moment. “What? Am not allowed to cum on my own now that I have a girlfriend now?”

A smirk started to grow on your face.

“I wasn’t even that drunk… That ass kicked me out for nothing. Nothing!” Nam-gyu complained in a slurred tone, leaning heavily against your car and resting his head against the cold metal and letting his cheek get squished. His eyes were closed as he kept fixing his belt and ripped jeans.

You stood there watched him, crossing your arms as he kept trying to open the door, not realising he’s completely blocking it. Gently, you hooked your arm into his and slowly pushed him aside, careful not to trip him, and opening the car door. A small “Thanks” escaped his lips as he let himself fall into the backseat of your car.

“You’re very drunk.” You kicked his feet to push them into the car. He let out a whine of complaint. “Fuck you. You’re supposed to be on my side. You’re my giiiirrrrl…” Rolling over, Nam-gyu weakly sat upright against the cushions and slouched over. His hand rested on top of his crotch and you couldn’t help but notice a rather obvious tent right where his hand was resting.

“Are those your jeans that are tenting or is that you showing that you’re happy to see me?” Nam-gyu glanced down at where his hand was resting before looking back up at you with a small smirk.

“What do you think?”

I feel like @thedragonqueen1998’s idea that was shared on Subnautica Sea Emperor Desmond idea should be its own post:

Yes! With this setup, Ezio could become a "proper" Prophet. XD I actually love making Desmond a Great One from Bloodborne with Ezio as his prophet in my daydreams. Mostly use the setup of Desmond tried to send him and Ezio back in time to give Ezio his family back, but Juno interviend and sent them to another dimension. Now, with Desmond trying to learn his new body and powers and with Ezio the only one allowed to percieve him without madness or injury, they try to find a way back home. Sometimes Ezio snd the new Brotherhood is brutally murdered and Desmond bring Ezio back to life as one of the twisted creatures we see in the game or they return home, where Ezio family is very concerned for him because he is now straight up worshipping a god and is 100% going to get burned at the stake for the shit he is throwing at the Church and God himself. Ezio has no worries because Desmond would never allow harm to come to him. Ezio uses this to perform miracles. Like cutting himself, walking into fires etc. He also does some healing as Desmond loves to dote on him and Ezio wishes to show how awesome Desmond is. XD

Imma be honest, I didn’t even get as far as the first boss (not counting the tutorial boss) in Bloodborne so this is gonna be more generic and maybe a bit more like the ttrpg Call of Cthulhu setup XD

I’m imagining that Ezio went through a very Bloodborne-esque adventure in the different dimension with the ‘blessing’ of his patron, newly born ��Great One’ Desmond who doesn’t really know his powers yet other than his connection to Ezio makes him effectively immortal.

So when they return to their world, perhaps a few months (a year?) before the death of his father and brothers, Ezio’s just a little bit… ‘mad’. Being a Great One does change Desmond not just physically and Ezio is receiving a bit of feedback from that because he is the prophet who has direct connection to his god.

This might end up with Ezio making his own Brotherhood which is, really, more of a cult than the usual Brotherhood cult-y way because they are worshiping Desmond and doing stuff in his name.

Even Desmond is like “okay, we need to tone it down a bit otherwise we’re gonna have a holy war in our hands” and decided to create an artificial human to act as a counterbalance to Ezio.

How to Make: Electronic Wings for Cosplay

Hello Everyone! It's been a while since I last uploaded a written tutorial on here and since I just finished and wore my Dame Aylin cosplay this last weekend it seemed appropriate to jump back in with a tutorial on one of the costume pieces!

Her wings were the star of the show this weekend and I know a lot of people were curious about how I made them! A huge source of knowledge and inspiration behind these wings was this video by Axceleration, I made a few changes to the frame shape and electrical circuitry for mine but her tutorial was a huge stepping stone to give me the confidence to tackle them myself!

Health and Safety:

When working with Sintraboard (as well as other thermoplastics) it is incredibly important you wear a respirator as well as goggles when heating, moulding and cutting it. The fumes this plastic will give off when heated up are no joke! Make sure you're in a well-ventilated space!

Basic tool safety knowledge is also really important! wearing gloves when using power tools can be more dangerous in most situations, so always be aware of where your hands are vs where the tools are. Always cut away from yourself and take things slowly, don't panic.

Electrical safety! You're working with live wires and circuitry! make sure your hands are dry, you aren't touching the bare wires at any point when they are connected to a power source, and if you choose to solder anything, make sure you're wearing heat-proof gloves and a mask in a ventilated space!

Dremel - I recommend the Dremel 3000 rotary tool personally! Some essential Dremel bits you'll need for this include, a sanding bit, drill bit (smaller or same size as your screws/bolts), and a small/narrow cutting bit. These will usually come with the Dremel!

Heat Gun (A hairdryer will not get hot enough to heat the Sintraboard!!)

Pipe cutter (alternatively you can use a hacksaw for this!)

Ruler

Scissors (for cutting fabric straps)

Materials

Heat shrink Tubing

2 core electrical wire

switch (you want a three position, six pin switch, like this one, even better if it has the Screws on the pins! otherwise you'll need a soldering kits to solder the wires to the pins.

2x 8AA 12v Battery Holders

2x 12v Linear Actuators (Mine had a stroke length of 100mm)

21.5mm PVC Pipes (I got 2x 3m Lengths)

2x 21.5mm PVC Pipe straight couplers

6mm 8"x12" Sintraboard

Nuts/Bolts/Screws (I used M5 bolts for the base & Actuator connectors and M6 screws to attach the hinges to the pipes! You'll need Washers for every Nut & Bolt!)

Hinges (I used 2.5cm wide hinges that were skinny but long so they would just about fit along the PVC pipe! 3" gate hinges would work!)

50 metre Polythene Jiffy foam roll (in retrospect this was ALOT of foam, you could definitely get away with maybe a 20-30 metre roll! I now have a load leftover XD)

16 AA Batteries (I used 16 and had enough for the whole day with them on, I think They'd probably be enough for another half a day-full day too! but have spares just in case!)

Webbing strap ( I went for grey to match my base suit colour!)

Buckle - as wide as the webbing strap you use!

3 metres of white cotton fabric (or whatever colour wings youre going for!)

Optional

Zipties (for cleaning up the wires)

Lets Go!

Sintraboard is this wonderfully stable thermoplastic that is relatively easy to cut into (with the right tools) and when heated allows you to mould its shape! I started by using a mannequin and heating the Sintraboard with a heat gun for a few minutes to make it pliable, I recommend using gloves for this part as the materials gets VERY HOT! Press the board into the shape of the mannequin's back, taking note of the edges especially! you want this board to sit as comfortably to your body shape as possible as it makes a huge difference to how long you can wearing the wings for in this backplate is comfy!

Once shaped, I placed it against my back to make sure it was a good fit, heating again and making any alterations I needed (again don't place bright hot plastic to your bare skin! wear protective clothes and wait till its slightly cooler to do this, with the help of a friend!). I then took a hacksaw and rounded the corners, before sanding the edges with my Dremel! Try to avoid cutting off loads, just enough to make things less likely to snag.

3. I then cut in four holes, wide enough to feed my webbing strap through, two at the top and one on either side below where my arms would sit! I measured the webbing strap by firstly feeding them through the top holes and pinning them, and then bring the strap over my should to everything sits where it should and seeing where the strap hits the side hole and cutting the length there! you'll also want a strap that attaches across the chest, meeting in the centre with a buckle!

4. After sewing the straps closed I was able to move onto the PVC pipe structure! This may change slightly depending on the finished shape you want but I needed the PVC pipes to come out from inside a breastplate so had a particularly angle as well as character references to work with! I began by heating the pipe over my heat gun and flattening a portion of it under a heavy object so it would sit much more flush against the backboard and sit better underneath my breastplate before moving onto securing the first portion of the structure to the backplate. This mainly involved lots of try-ons and measuring to make sure the angles were correct and symmetrical and was quite fiddly but well-worth the effort! I'll include a diagram of the general shape I went with below:

5. I wanted my wings to be relatively modular for ease of travel so I needed to make sure certain portions of them could come away from other parts easily, so I popped a straight coupler on the top of the pipes that were attach to the breastplate, this also meant I could slot the breastplate over these shorter pipes and wear everything correctly! Then these second pipes slot on and at the other end they are attached via hinges to the longest portion of the pipe 'skeleton', Diagram below:

6. Now that the skeleton was put together, it's time for the electrical stuff! It's a good idea to figure out where your circuit is going to lay on the skeleton - consider if you want the battery packs mounted the the backplate or, like me, put them inside the actual wings in removeable pockets for easy access and removal for battery changes. all your wires will go through the switch so deciding where you want to place that is very important! Mine was placed just over my shoulder on the front side, mounted to the PVC pipe with a metal cover I drilled a hole into to slip the switch through and then drill through the pipe.

I've included another diagram below that explains all the electrical circuitry, including which wires go on which pins on the switch!

Important to note: The linear actuators need to be placed and bolted into the PVC pipes at *exactly* the same angle on each side, any slight deviation will lead to the wings going up wonkily! So take your time and make as many adjustments as necessary.

7. You can extend your wires by adding on the electrical wire, just match the colours, and put heat shrink tubing over the connections to hide the live wires! I ended up zip-tying the wires into organised bundles once the wings were done to help keep everything safe from snags.

8. Now its time for the Wings themselves! I drafted my base pattern by just draping the white cotton fabric I had over the wing when it was fully extended. I then pinned the wings to the shape I wanted them to be along the bottom before cutting along the pins. I ran the fabric through my sewing machine to close the bottom edge, leaving a gap wide enough by the wing base so I could slip the wing on and off, closing it with velcro. I also added little fabric pockets inside of these to hold my battery packs, which also connected via velcro for easy removal!

9. Now that I had a wing base I was able to begin making feathers! I cut out a total of 800 feathers out of polythene jiffy roll for these wings, in 6 different styles and using real life bird wings to dictate the shapes I used and where I placed them. I ended up hot gluing every individual feather onto the white fabric base, going row by row until every side was covered, the wing covers themselves are super light because of the foam feathers and they shine light through them in a really magical way!

Optional: I also ended up going over these feathers with my airbrush and some super light beige paint to help darken the shadows, this is entirely optional and may change depending on the wings you're looking to make!

When in neutral position and in extended position the wings looks like this:

Mine had a wingspan of about 7ft total when fully extended but when in neutral position they were fairly close to my own proportions! mainly staying behind me and weren't much of a problem in a packed con hall!

I ended up playing maybe 2 hours of cyberpunk 2077 today

Most of the day was spent looking over what kinds of builds are possible so I can get an idea of what I want to aim for. I didn't really find anything that felt perfect so I'm just gonna go ham with something to do with shotguns and see what happens xD

I'm keeping an open mind cuz I don't really enjoy or even really engaged with cyberpunk stuff in general but the gameplay seems fun so far even if the story hasn't grabbed me at all so far.

I did however get spoiled on some kind of ending because of those websites that show up in google in place of the actual website that posted the info you're after. The ones that just have a load of related questions to the one you googled right next to it from other websites. Thought I'd blocked all of them but I guess that one slipped through the filters. So now I know about at least one major character death and what happens with the player character. All because I googled what the max level in the game is -_-

So I talked before about an idea I had where everyone in the party remembers all of the loops from the beginning, thus beginning a new flavor of torment for Loop, but it got me thinking about one other concept.

Loop's wish was for help, yes, but also for the loops to be over, for escape. So what if, once they end up in ISAT, they don't remember the loops anymore?

(Does this make much sense given how Loop's Wish seems to have worked? Not really, but it's an interesting hypothetical so we're rolling with it for at least this one post.)

They know their own loops happened, they're still a star, and since I'm really nice they still remember ISAT Siffrin's Loop 0, so they aren't constantly doing the opening tutorial. And I can't be so mean as to leave ISAT Siffrin actually alone in the loops, just with a weird star person who knows about the timeloops but can't remember them. (If someone else wants to be that mean, have fun and also share with me I do like intense angst even when I am not strong enough to make it myself.)

So I'd only do this in conjunction with the above where everyone in the party also remembers.

And god, the first time the party loops back and Siffrin goes to talk to Loop? And he realizes that Loop doesn't remember, even though they thought they would? Oh it's gonna get messy, depending on how things go. If Siffrin isn't careful about how he reacts Loop is gonna realize what's happening and freak out. What do you mean this is Loop 2 and not 1 Stardust??? That's isn't possible???

But, if Siffrin picks up on things fast enough, well, we all know how Siffrin reacts to someone no being in the know. They don't say anything about it! They go back to the rest of the party like, "Hey uh, so apparently Loop doesn't remember last time? Just the first go round? So that's a problem."

Loop does still see everything Siffrin does and has to give them the Memories though, so regardless of if Siffrin tells them outright, Loop is going to figure out what's happening. I figure eventually Siffrin makes enough progress to facilitate Loop giving the call option, but I feel like maybe they'd be more willing to have longer chats inside the House than in canon, because, well, they can't have it at the Favor Tree without Siffrin taking a bunch of time to fill Loop in. Plus the added factor of Siffrin not having to hide the call from the party.

Odile adds Loop to her pile of things to figure out (like she wouldn't do that in any story where she's looping XD), but at some point she is going to suggest Loop just come with them to the House. And that's gonna be a whole new can of worms.

This whole idea is like "how do we make being out of Loops Still Somehow The Torment Nexus?"

Did any of you grow up watching the show Sea Frenemies? I'm assuming most have at least heard of it, the show was pretty popular back in the day… it ran for like a billion seasons, got TONS of merchandise, a theatrical movie, and even a full video game. This was back when EVERYTHING got a licensed video game… cartoons, movies, even fast food places??? What kid was dying to get their hands on Burger Belle Patty Racers Deluxe? (Real game by the way XD) Unlike most licensed games from the time, "Sea Frenemies: The Game" was actually surprisingly well made! It was a collect-a-thon platformer with huge expansive levels and so many references to the original show. It really felt like it was made by super-fans of Sea Frenemies! I played the game SO MUCH growing up (probably more than I even watched the show LOL), and I recall it being one of the first games I ever beat! I was so proud I ran outside, held the game case up victoriously, and declared myself "Queen of the Sea" X) Over the years the game got a pretty decently sized cult following, mostly from people like me that grew up playing it… it got so popular a few years back that it even got an official remaster! Sea Frenemies: The Game: The Remake. Back when this was first announced I was SO excited… the game had aged pretty well all things considered, but there were definitely plenty of places it could be polished and I was eager to see where they could take the game. A few months later, the remake released… and I totally forgot about it LOL I must've just been busy or missed the release date… but recently I found the game for super cheap, so I picked it up to finally check it out. Got home, played through the tutorial and first area and it, umm… kind of sucked? X) Don't get me wrong, the remake LOOKS very pretty. All the levels are super lush and vibrant, it all looks very nice, but everything else felt really off. There were small, admittedly insignificant things missing compared to the original game… Little extra dialogue or small visual details and gags. On the small scale these things barely matter, but as you continue playing and notice more and more, the game just feels more barren than the original (which is odd considering this is supposed to be the fresh, new and improved version. X) ) I wanted to still give the remake a fair shot, maybe it was just the early game that was lacking, and things would get better as I progressed. Things did not get better.

The more I played, the more glitches I encountered… enemies would break, my character would get stuck in place, some infinite loading screens. Don't even get me STARTED on the loading times in this game. After a death it can take almost 20 seconds to spawn back in! It took TWO in the original. At one point I somehow even got Frankie the Ferret into JJ's house by entering the level via the menu, which is NOT something that is supposed to be possible, and certainly not something you could do in the original game. There's a cutscene that plays in the house where it shows your character talking, which at this point is SUPPOSED to be JJ, but since I was Frankie it showed her talking, with JJ's voice coming out of her mouth… it was really weird looking XD Frankie was always my favorite to play as anyways, so I guess it's fine I got to play her in an extra level. XP Overall, it does very little to improve on the original game, and most of the time only makes things MUCH worse. If you feel like playing a Sea Frenemies game… I would suggest just finding a copy of the original game. Sea Frenemies: The Game: The Remake is NOT a holidaygirl1224 recommendation, and I would go as far to say it's my Sea ENEMY. XD One last takeaway I have with the remake is in one objective during the late game. It's a big enemy rush sorta thing, and you have to defeat a certain number of them to be able to destroy the machines that are spawning them in and get your prize. As a kid, I was TERRIFIED of this objective. I was scared of all the enemies in general, but this particular hoard really freaked me out. There was one spot you could stand in the level where you could cheese the whole thing and attack them all with your missile attack, completing the objective without having to actually go in and face the enemies. Playing the remake, I got to this level and instinctively went to the spot I had always done this as a kid… but with how the missile attack controlled in this new game, you couldn't really attack ANYTHING, so I had to go back up and play it for real. I'm much older than I was when I originally beat this game, and can certainly manage my way through some grunt enemies… but I still felt a little bit of that fear from before in my stomach. Nevertheless, I continued forward and completed the level. Fighting the enemies this time wasn't scary at all. Nor was it all that hard. Instead it was just…fun. Really fun! I even played the objective a second time just to experience it again. I know it's just a video game, but it felt very… cathartic to face those old fears. To conquer them. I really just felt how much I've grown in that one moment. I'm still a big scared wimp, but I'm so much stronger than I used to be. Anyhoot, that's all my thoughts on Sea Frenemies: The Game! As I said before, if you wanna play this game, PLAY THE ORIGINAL!!! I hope you all have a merry day… see you soon! X)
