Every otaku producer on any at least decently-sized project is chained to very BIG MONEY merch contracts. Merch sales are one of the biggest cogs making the anime industry run and because of that, merch manufacturers expect producers not to allow anything that would make their products fail to reflect the contents of the show.
A recent example that sparked controversy about this is the new Tokyo Mew Mew reboot anime. Mew Mew is a series where pretty much everyone important has food names, but the early scanlators failed to notice how far this motif extended and rendered Quiche's name as Kisshu. This is spread in the fandom enough to make merch makers assume that was the proper way to spell his name in English and produce pins with the name Kisshu written in Roman letters. Thanks to that, over a decade later, the Mew Mew translator on Crunchyroll subs is forced to use Kisshu on her script despite knowing it's wrong.
But this is a Type-Moon post, so let's talk about Type-Moon instead. On October 29th, 2010, Nasu released Fate/complete material III, containing profiles for all Servants featured in Fate/stay Night. In his lack of English knowledge, he most likely relied on Google to learn how to romanize all those names. This generated two curious results: Arthuria was rendered as Altria, as the first search result for アルトリア would be the cigarette corporation, and Rider favored the French spelling Medousa over the English Medusa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flash forward to May 25th, 2016. At this year, Fate/Grand Order had already been released and proved itself a commercial success against all odds. In celebration of that, FuRyu Corporation sculpted the source of all evil.
Tumblr media
FuRyu's figure utilized the erroneous "Altria" from Complete Material III. Here is where I want you to notice that FuRyu did not release a Medusa figure alongside it. "Altria Pendragon" is the only character in this collection.
Our next chronological stop is August 14, 2016. Merely 3 months after the FuRyu Altria figure began to spread its corruption through all we know and love. That's the day Fate/Grand Order Material I came out, containing profiles for Saber Arthuria and Medusa.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As you can see in the right corner, Medousa is no more. Due to having 6 more years to learn things and no merch contract forever chaining him to his spelling mistake, Nasu had the opportunity to correct Medusa's name, which also settled it as the name FGO NA legally had to go with.
So when I say FGO NA translators went with Tam Lin because it's literally illegal not to do so, I am talking about

Batboys watching anime with reader
You know my ass went FULL ON LOCK MODE with Tim. I went crazy- 💀
***S/o is above 18, which means characters below are also aged up!
Doing requests until 1 Feb! Please see my pinned post and read the request rules on the navi! Thank you!🩷
Batbros watching anime with you
Dick Grayson
He’s watched a few 90s anime before, more the basic ones like One Piece and Pokémon, and he probably still watches them to this day. Boy has old CDs he has and you should probably try finding a Blue Ray (or use his if he can have Tim help fix it because it’s good as dead 💀) because he’s popping in every CD of old anime’s he have lying about.
“Wow, I didn’t know I had cowboy bebop! Or Slam Dunk!” He got a few rare gems, which makes it all the more fun to sit down on the couch under a blanket as you huddle and watch the nostalgic 90s anime shows together while eating popcorn.
He doesn’t mind watching new, modern day animes, just be prepared for when you two watch sad anime shows because he will sob like it’s the end of the world.
“NO, WHY WOULD KAORI DIE LIKE THIS?? AND SHE LOVES ARIMA- OH MY GOD IM SO—”sobs even more. He gets emotional while watching them because it’s so sad that it’s sO GOOD-
Loves dancing to those danceable anime music with you. He goes ALL. OUT. He even sings all of it in Japanese like wow-
I would love to hear him sing Cruel Angel’s Thesis in his Discowing suit and with goth makeup on it because it “sets the mood”, PLEASE-
Overall, great time watching with Dick. <3
Jason Todd
You expect someone like him to like Chainsaw Man, Trigun or something like those grunge-y, guns and knives animes, right? I mean, he does, but only with you and ONLY with you will he let his inner Magical Girl enthusiast ass shine. Because he LOVES Magical Girl animes. That’s probably the reason and one point of time why he wore red ribbons around his arms, he wanted that Sailor Moon experience and Tim might’ve just teased him about that era without knowing his love for Magical Girl animes and Jason might’ve flipped and freaked the fuck out and started chasing him down the manor.
Jason watches Sailor Moon, Madoka when he feels edgier than usual, Cardcaptor Sakura, every Precure series, Tokyo Mew Mew, man has all these shows somehow. He swears they weren’t through illegal means and he just worked very hard to gather all of them. He also might be a shoujo anime fan because if he loves Jane Austen books, you bet his ass would be reading Fruits Basket, Maid Sama or something because of course he would.
Also a Studio Ghibli fan, although watching the Tale of Princess Kaguya might make him feel too much, especially getting pissed off with the dad who forces his daughter into a wealthy life without her input and- yeah, you gotta calm him down as he cries bitterly and sourly with a pout on his face.
The two of you can go on and on about debating about unclear endings of animes all day long. You know the “AND SHE WAS A PRINCESS” video? That’s Jason.
Great man to watch anime with, and he’ll gladly be your Tuxedo Mask to your Sailor Moon (and not the “But you did nothing meme- or the other way around- he don’t mind being the Usagi-). <3
Tim Drake
I’m very convinced this man got into his whole detective shit because he watched Detective Conan and honestly I can’t blame him. Tim has probably the largest vessel of anime knowledge out of all of them. He doesn’t really have a specific genre he likes but he’s pretty fond of old 90s and 80s animes. He can explain the whole lore of One Piece, Fairytale, Pokémon like Jesus Tim, calm down- 💀
I can see him watching Neon Genesis Evangelion, Serial Experiments Lain or Key the Metal Doll because he likes that little bit of horror nature and mystery and thriller in his animes although he really doesn’t mind watching Haikyuu all over again if you want to.
Might introduce you to underrated and/or old animes like Revolutionary Girl Utena, Nadia the Secrets of Blue Water, every Studio Ghibli movie, those kinds of animes that give off the really pretty and aesthetic old anime animations that is just so pretty to watch and with really good storylines that both of you can cuddle on a couch together and watch. I bet he even watches anime with you even before you two got together, so you guys pretty much have “watching anime together” as part of the foundation of your relationship. Owns so much manga that you can’t even count, too.
Just… don’t make him watch those really slow burn, comedy love animes, specifically Love War. Not that he don’t like romance animes, he watches Ouran High School Host Club and Your Name, trust me, but Love War? He is going absolutely insane because of it.
“OH MY GOD- PLEASE JUST KISS ALREADY. ME AND S/O ARE ALREADY TOGETHER FIVE MONTHS AGO ANF YOU TWO ARE STILL TOO PROUD TO ADMIT YOU LOVE EACH OTHER WHILE BLUSHING- JUST KISS ALREADY-” <3
Damian Wayne
Damian likes anime. Would 100% go to an anime convention with you as a date if you’re up for it. He doesn’t mind (surprisingly- just for you only-).
He doesn’t necessarily like showmen animes although he has enjoyed a few, but he really loves slice of life, I feel. It just feels like he wants to put himself in a normal life and with a tad bit of drama in it like what the characters go through. The touching ones like Hyouka or Natsume’s Book of Friends.
Also animal related anime maybe except Beastars because he didn’t understand shit-?? He calls that peak anime. Aggretsuko, Chi’s Sweet Home and My Roommate is a Cat?? Damian loves this shit, he watches it intently with his arm around you. Even if he doesn’t smile, you know he loves it by the way his eyes sparkle.
Just don’t tell his brothers. He will seriously feel betrayed if you do so because he only watches these kinds of shows with you: the cute animal ones that are actually wholesome and/or funny.
The whole family is into Studio Ghibli, and he is no exception. He feels like it’s the best kinds of anime to watch with you when you guys just want to turn in for the day and huddle up on the couch. It’s one of the rare times he relaxes and softens and he’s glad to have quality time with you. <3
Duke Thomas
He likes anime! Studio Ghibli is definitely a favourite of his and he would gladly watch it together with you! He also love a fair bit of Shounen animes, the more popular ones like Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, Haikyuu, or Spy x Family. He likes them a lot!
A big fan of romance animes too: Ouran High School Host Club and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (if you two are in the mood to huddle on the couch together and cry).
Duke doesn’t mind any kind of anime so long as it doesn’t have too much horror or gore like… Higurashi. He gets chills when that anime is mentioned. D-Don’t watch it for your own sake if you don’t know. And if you do, avoid it with him at all cost because he will.
Duke also like singing some good anime songs with you and you guys can go crazy and dance around, just not as dramatic as Dick.
He would be super excited to spend a date with you watching shounen anime movies like from Jujutsu Kaisen and he would be so hype to spend time with you being a fanboy while also sharing that romantic air for the shared love of anime between you two and the love that you two share, although that love is far stronger. <3

Human TV I Think They'd Watch
All the Bros and Dateables
Dev Notes:I have been watching Kitchen Nightmares while writing and how I think Barbatos might like it,, and then it lead to what human world TV they might like,,, maybe spent a little to much time on it instead of working on WIPs
Tumblr media
Lucifer
Really likes old people TV
He watches things like How It’s Made, National Geographic documentaries, if he wants a little laugh those shows about “aliens”. Skin Walker Ranch is his dirty little side piece TV show
He just enjoys educational shows because they are easy to tune out
Really loves Soap Operas. Young and the Restless and General Hospital are kept up with religiously(hah). He, Diavolo, and Barbatos usually watch it. Dia really likes it and Barbatos watches when working with Dia second hand while doing work. He latched on after watching it in the background a few times.
Also, just the news. Mans will put on a 24 hour news station and will keep it on for like, 5 days.
Mammon
He watches Harrison Porter, so give him the joy that is Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.
Would also enjoy the Spiderwick Chronicles movie since he doesn’t know how bad it was compared to the books
Just a big fantasy fan honestly. Loves them.
On another note, he also loves trashy reality TV and News. The only one who beats out his love for celebrity gossip is Asmo. When he is putting on a TV show to go brain dead to its something from TLC, like 90 Day Fiance, I Love a Mama’s Boy, etc.
He watches the Kentucky Derby, bets on it a lot (loses a lot too)
His dirty secret show/movies are Hallmark movies. He watches them when he won’t get caught. Hopeless romantic nerd (Affectionate)
Leviathan
You’re joking
You’re joking right?
Anime or DIE!!! (/hj)
Also really popular fantasy movies based on books. He will rip them to shreds when you watch them. Can be fun if you read the books, annoying if you haven’t.
Has a soft spot for magical girl animes, obvi
There isn’t really much to elaborate on, half of his personality is anime and nerd stuff.
Just a few favorites I think he might have with no explanation:
Tokyo Mew Mew, Yugi-Oh, Death Note, Naruto, Angel Beats, Lucky Star, Soul Eater, Watamote, Saint Tail, and Cowboy Bebop
Satan
King of detective shows
He loves trying to find them out
It is canon he loves the Devildom equivalent of Midsomer Murders, so just show him that too
I think he would like Forensic Files too.
Also, thriller movies. And psychological horror movies.
He loves them, he typically can predict an ending, but it's nice to see how they write out how the characters themselves find out
Asmo
Trashy reality TV!!!!!
He and Mammon watch 90 Day and Mama's boy and talk shit about them.
Loves Maury, Jerry Springer (rip my king), Parent Court when he's feeling a little frisky
Next Top Model and RuPaul's Drag Race. It's about the DRAMA! The OUTFITS!
Watched part of Euphoria but honestly? Found it mid. Sorry but he just couldn't understand the hype after the writing started to plummet.
Has watched Jersey Shore, will not elaborate on his opinion.
Tbh, he also doesn't really watch much because he feels like he has better things to do with his time, he only watches it for Brotherly Bonding, and for background noise
Beel
Haha, big guy hardly watches TV
Watches workout videos primarily
He likes learning new work out and dietary things
Has been banned from watching any type of food shows. Sorry Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
Will participate in movie night, primarily for food, buhe does pay attention
Honestly just watches whatever someone else typically puts on with no complaint
Belphie
Much like his twin, doesn't typically seek out TV watching.
Much easier to watch on his phone
He does enjoy satisfying videos
Watches Rug cleaning videos, silly ASMR videos, Video essays when he can't sleep and gets curious. Loves obscure media and icebergs.
The essays are about the only thing that goes on the TV
Sorry but he just doesn't care much.
Will also participate in movie night, almost always falls asleep. Still can tell you the entire plot of the film.
On a very rare occasion will watch South Park. Will not elaborate on this one.
Solomon
Loves old TV shows to some newer ones
I Love Lucy, The Twilight Zone, The Muppet Show
I cant really explain the Muppet Show, but I know its true, it is in my bones
Honestly loves older sitcoms. They just hit different.
Can I mention I Dreamed a Genie and Bewitched? Classics in his eyes. Would fight to the death for them
Will make a off hand comment on how he doesn't feel like TV is the same anymore
Watches reality TV in the background when Asmo turns it on when he lounges in either one of their rooms
I feel like I just can't explain most of these, but they are the truth in my heart and that is enough
Simeon
Haha...What?
Watches whatever Luke or Solomon puts on or whatever someone else would suggest
He has a preference for books most of the time I feel like. Just goes with the flow
Just suggest something and he'll put it up for the next movie night when it's his choice
I really can't think of one he would pick oops.
Barbatos
He watches whatever Diavolo puts on in the background. Likes the Soap Operas some times, gets a little annoyed with anime voices when he has a migraine.
Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen just hits right for him. Loves the insults
He doesn't much watch TV either though. Prefers audio books since they are easier to carry around
You essentially have to beg to watch TV with him, he's a busy butler ya'know?
Diavolo
KING OF FLEXIBILITY
Has watched all of it, and will continue to do so.
Has a special place for Soap Operas and Ruri-Chan
Seen all the classics, the new block busters, all of it
Honestly you wonder how he gets the time?
He really likes consuming stuff, so he does it when he is working on paper work he puts on the subtitles and turning the audio on low and going HAM
Couldn't be me, I would get distracted
For the most part he's watched it all, and what he hasn't is on his to watch list. He just likes talking to his friends about it :)
Luke
GREAT! BRITISH! BAKE! OFF!
He likes seeing the different foods
It inspires him so much, it's so cute watching his eyes sparkle as he sees something he likes and he writes it down on his phone
Also, he really likes watching Bluey. He lets Simeon and Solomon, and Barbatos found out (because he knows everything), but would DIE if anyone else found out
Also likes early 80's and bad CG horror movies. Kid literally laughs and Mammon is losing his mind next to him. I think because of the bad effects it makes it more tolerable.
Killer Klowns from Outer Space slaps man what can the kid say?
I think I'm projecting hard onto him,, but he's my son so it doesn't matter

Watched a video where they basically said "marketing towards nostalgia doesn't work in anime/nostalgia pandering isn't a thing for anime" I want you to tell me some of the most popular anime in the past few years and take a shot every single time one of them is a reboot or related to a classic old series.
Trigun Stampede. Fruits Basket. Tokyo Mew Mew. Yashahime. Rurouni Kenshin. Urusei Yatsura. Shaman King. Devilman Crybaby. Dororo. Sailor Moon Crystal. Kino's Journey. THEY'RE EVEN REBOOTING BLACK BUTLER!!!!
That's just off the top of my head. Listing MORE RECENT THINGS. Anime reboots have often always been super popular and done super well. You know. Hunter x Hunter. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. Hellsing Ultimate. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
Like, anime absolutely does nostalgia marketing and rebooting anime has been more popular than ever. I do think that a large part of this is because reusing old IPs is easier and less risky when it comes to making profits, but also because there are a lot of really good older anime or older manga that had an anime adaptation that wasn't as good as it could have been, or didn't get finished!
Oftentimes, anime is used as an advertisement for the manga, so if manga sales are good enough after a season, they won't always renew it for another. But I think that's been changing in the anime scene for the past few years. Anime is often continued because the audience enjoys the anime, and it isn't just based off of being an advertisement for the manga. Reboots for series like Fruits Basket allows the entirety of the manga be told as a beautiful animation (the original anime didn't cover the whole series) and introduce classic animanga stories to newer audiences.
I absolutely do want more new stories, but I feel like that's still happening in anime, whereas other mainstream media formats in other countries (such as movies in the USA) are primarily reboots or sequels and squashing out the chances for newer original works or series. I think that, as of right now, there has been a really good balance of reboots or related to reboots to original series. And that makes me really happy! I hope that doesn't change, because I don't think reboots are inherently wrong, and are often beautiful and give classics a chance to be revived and reimagined.
Regardless, my point is that nostalgia absolutely is a huge factor in anime, and it's kind of ignorant of the state of anime to say that "nostalgia marketing isn't a thing" for anime/animanga. Because it is. It's an incredibly huge thing for it, actually.

Eugh, I cannot stand Sailor Moon fans. They're so annoying and obnoxious, it makes me want to punch them in the face. They think that Sailor Moon is the *first* and *only* magical girl anime, and every *single DAMN* magical girl anime and cartoon such as Winx Club or Tokyo Mew Mew will be called a "Sailor Moon rip-off". Give me a fucking break. What the fuck does a show about fairies or a show about girls who get animal DNA who fight aliens have to do with Sailor Moon, I'll never know.
Tbh, I wish I could get to enjoy Sailor Moon, but fans like these have ruined Sailor Moon for me, because they worship Sailor Moon like it's the damn Bible or Quran, and cannot be bothered to check any other magical girl show, whether it is anime or cartoon, without calling it a "rip off"
It's like...they're so close minded, it's almost scary, ngl. I wish the fanbase acknowledged this, because this shit is not only damaging their reputation, but they're ruining Sailor Moon for a lot of people (me included) and their elitist and blind worshipping behaviour is turning away (potential) new fans and people who want to get into and enjoy this series.
"Sailor Moon", for me is a classic example of how a good show can get ruined by a shitty fanbase.
TLDR: The Sailor Moon fanbase is shit and it has ruined the show for me and (probably) other people.
It’s the same with me as well. I still like sailor moon but the stans made me not like it as much because they won’t shut up about any magical girl anime being a “rip off” of sailor moon. Even magical girl shows that came way before like cutie honey and sally the witch are called this. It’s also pretty stupid they say this because they see stuff that is common in the genre (transformation, wands, animal friends, etc) and think that it’s copying sailor moon. When those things existed in the genre since the very beginning. They don’t dig deeper into the show and see that it’s nothing like sailor moon like the ones you mentioned. Even more annoying is when they say a scene from a magical girl show is a ripoff of sailor moon when nothing like that happens in sm. Remember that winx mythix transformation scene where they used wands to transform and sailor moon stans saying it’s a ripoff? However, sailor moon never transformed with a wand at any point in the show like the winx did. That’s more old school magical girl like creamy mami rather than sailor moon.
Sometimes they even try and trash or discredit other magical girl anime like cutie honey (saying that it doesn’t count as a magical girl anime and sailor moon is actually the first magical girl warrior) and precure (they are lying to themselves about precure impact on magical girls anime nowadays and claim that all the obvious precure parodies in shows are actually sailor moon parodies..).
Even outside their stupidity with the magical girl genre, they are still insufferable with sailor moon. We have manga stans thinking that the 90s anime is insult to life itself and say you’re not a real fan if you liked the anime over the manga. We have people who will defend every bad thing in sailor moon and jump on others if they say something about it (one guy said on twitter about the kiss between an KO usagi and momo was weird and all hell broke lose). It’s just a toxic and annoying fandom.
Also, If I was you, I would still give sailor moon a chance and just ignore the fandom. Sure they are giving sailor moon a bad name and are just as annoying as dragon ball fans. But it’s still possible to enjoy sailor moon by ignoring the fandom. It’s still a good show. Or you can just read the manga as it’s shorter than the show is.

Kishu for the impression ask game?
[ask game link]
Okay! This is based on the manga and OG anime, because I haven't gotten to watch Tokyo Mew Mew New yet, so any new worldbuilding/details from TMMN are ignored.
Tumblr media
First impression Ears. EARS. (Second impression: wtf are those sleeves. How does this shirt work. Why are there long ribbons.) So, basically all visual.
Impression now
He's just a funny terrible guy. Like, I want to punch him. He deserves it. But he is gleefully terrible and I also want to take one of those helpful hand grabber-claw things and pull on his ridiculously-oversized ears (I noticed that the new series makes the ears more sensible; some points of the manga and OG series had them absolutely ginormous).
He's also like, 13. So he's terrible but also in that lacking-adult-supervision way that makes you worry. Where are Alien Child Protective Services.
Favorite moment
Okay, I know this is really more Zakuro, but...
Tumblr media
Look at the way he scrabbles for the portal!
Idea for a story
Basically, see my headcanon down there at the end? That thing. I'm probably never going to write it.
Unpopular opinion
These days? Not sure. In Ye Olden Fandom days, it was definitely not popular to ship Ichigo with her canonical love interest, Masaya, rather than Ryou or our spicy alien here.
Favorite relationship
I am pretty sure I hold the distinction of being the world's only Kisshu x Kanna Saionji shipper. Kanna is an anime-only character from episode 32, is a spoiled rich girl who considers Minto her rival, and I think that once he learns to be less of an assaulting asshole, they would be obnoxiously delightful together. Also, her dominant color is orange hair, and orange and green look nice together.
Favorite headcanon
Kisshu and co are part of a cult.
No, listen. It's a cult that has some power to it, since Deep Blue gets himself incarnated on earth and is actually a threat, but "three guys and their semiconscious boss" are not an invading force. I could kill more people by dropping a medium-sized rock off Tokyo Tower; these nerds can fly and create giant monsters and as far as I can tell, never managed to kill a single person during their genocide attempt. Even if you argue they were basically just killing time until Deep Blue woke up, that was a terrible plan to give their human opponents time to study them and get stronger.
Their small numbers and general lack of plan (and bizarre decision to start their invasion in a highly-populated modern city rather than setting up a base in a less-populated area where they could have straightened out any problems and let Deep Blue awaken without interference) make more sense if you consider all them them zealots on the fringes of their society. Disaffected young men living in a not-great place, vulnerable to the idea of doing something meaningful and active that makes them feel powerful.
Their people left earth three million years ago; for most of the population the concept of former planetary home they could retake is likely a myth, though I wouldn't be surprised if there were others looking for other places to live, or to terraform their current planet. (For reference: humans have been around far less than one million years; homo sapiens evolved around 300,000 years ago and our oldest myths are still less than 50,000 years old.) Our guys definitely found/uncovered/rediscovered something because their attempt has power behind it (and their spaceship, and whatever the alien dimension is), but in no way do they seem like the chosen heroes of an entire race.

were there any other anime that you enjoyed?
ANOTHER BIG ASK LMAO
I was big into Haruhi Suzumiya (God Knows... almost made it onto that list of fave songs not in english lol) and Toradora for the LONGEST time! One of my high school teachers actually gave me half the manga volumes I own because he knew I loved it so much. I wore my hair like Haruhi every day for. A year? Maybe?? At least???? TRULY I WAS IN DEEP. Someone ruined them for me though lol still trying to win them back in my heart.
Naruto was like. 60% of my personality in middle school and high school. I think I've cosplayed every iteration of Itachi and some Sasuke too. Met some of my favorite people through cosplaying loser Uchihas. The music kicks ass. Kishimoto doesn't know how to write women. Fanfic authors always came to his rescue.
Yakitate! Japan. I don't have much more to say about that. Except it's VERY good and VERY fun and I never got into Food Wars because YAKITATE! JAPAN IS RIGHT THERE!!!!!!! I should probably get into Food Wars though.
Tokyo Mew Mew was FORMATIVE!!!! It's the series I read my first fanfic from! I made my own mewmew sona a while back (like. a few years ago. not in middle school LOL) it will ALWAYS hold a place in my heart.
MADOKA! Listen. I respect why people don't like the series. Girls deserve more than suffering. BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH LMAO HOMURA MY GIRL, and the visuals UGH THE VISUALS!!!! IT'S SO PRETTY!!!!
Also pretty was Made in Abyss, but again, I fully recognize why people stay away from it. But it's SO GOOD AND SO PRETTY AND OUCHIE. Perhaps there is a theme here,
I didn't get into Love Live! when it was still airing, and never really watched the anime until I got VERY into the rhythm game a couple year ago (I'd been playing way back in 2014, but stopped when I got a new phone and lost my old account but downloaded it around 2020 as something to do) and im kind of kicking myself because now all the merch of the OG girls is GONE! GIVE ME MY MAKI MERCH!!!!! I'm still very salty about the mobile game fiasco lmao but its okay because Project Sekai will save me :)
I feel like I could go on, but then it'd just turn into "what anime have you watched?" because im very bad at watching anime so I've only ever finished shows I truly like (or if a friend has sat me down and said 'we're watching this now :3' ) Full Metal Alchemist was also Formative, but I never actually sat down and watched Brotherhood all the way through lol I've seen Death Note a half dozen times I think which is weird because I would NOT consider it a fave yet it's probably the one I've seen most other than Haruhi (endless eight DNI)
I have not watched anything recently, but I love the Dungeon Meshi manga, and I think I might watch..fri....frieren? The little elf girl. That looks cute. It will probably destroy me.

Experimental Art of Mew Lychee in her mermaid form...plus some sketches of my Tokyo Mµ Project.
Let me introduce you to Zaar’tar, a strong galaxian warrior and outcast of Äelysia, one of the few sibling planets of earth and the origin of  Mµ Aqua.
On the right, his sister, Lobelia, princess of Äelysia and refugee on earth.
In the middle Lilinas (Lychee) Aquaria Mon Ocean ouftit, lol. The mews do not longer work at the café, but at an aquarium centre. Long before TMMN was announced I had decided to base my fanstory around the ocean and since TMMN has been going that route it fits perfectly with my story. ;u; I cannot tell you how pleasing that is. In any way, theres also a version with shorts! But Lilina always hops right into the water and plays with the rescued animals and takes care of them.
Especially with the background story of the Aliens we know so far.
In  Tokyo Mµ Project the inhabitants of Äelysia and a few warriors from space seek refugee on earth after Äelysia, a neutral planet and usually never involved in any wars and politics as decided per all the other colonies - has been under attack to get hold of the princesses as well as the strong power of  Mµ Aqua. Now, Äelysia has been Eden in Universe so to say. Usually you’d drop by to heal and refresh; also a great place for trading. The residents do not hold any weapons and violence is strictly forbidden. Those who go against the rules or decide to leave the planet; are outcasts and banned.
So, hiding on their new home called Earth, the princess and some other royals retreat to the depths of the ocean (where they also resided in Äelysia. Hence the importance of mermaids in my project as well as in TMMN now! Nice.)
the rest develops a new life. I had originally planned to make element based tribes, which would explain why Kisshu, Pie and Tart could fly (their ancestors would be from the wind/air tribe).
TMMN stated, that the aliens on earth had to leave because of the climate change and other stuff, I had planned the same, only with a few surviving after the catastrophe hits.
Those would evolve into what humans are now over time.
There is so much more to say actually but for know I’ll leave it as it is.
If you have questions though...you can always send an ask! :)

hello! ^^.
as a member of the cutecore/kawaiicore community i see a lack of lists on the internet suggesting anime for the fans of the aesthetic or just cute things! i decided to make up for that, and hope you all ( or at least someone ), finds this list helpful! Either way, at least it’s there! ^^. And this list will not include titles like Nekopara and such, as while the anime is fine, I don’t encourage people to watch it because of the games!
Some GENUINELY cute animes, that have cute designs, good storylines, and just are overall really cute are
Tokyo Mew Mew ( original is on YouTube! ), and it’s’ remake - which is on Hidive! It follows five girls who are infused with the DNA of endangered species; and are out to save the world from aliens who want to harm the universe even more - and use animals to do so. The character designs are adorable, and the plot line is really interesting - especially if you’re a fan of magical girl anime/manga!
Cardcaptor Sakura ( on Netflix and Crunchyroll! ), is an especially cute series - that follows 5th grader Sakura and her family and friends, as she collects a magical card every episode, while also navigating through her life and meeting new people! It’s incredibly cute and heartfelt, and the character design is lovely. I highly suggest this one - I am slightly bias, as it’s a favorite of mine lol!
Any series in the Precure franchise is also incredibly cute + and each has their own character design! I’d definitely suggest the franchise for anyone looking for a dose of cute characters, songs, and just an overall fan of magical girls or cute designs! ^^. Most of the series are on Crunchyroll!
A cute series, while I haven’t gotten around to watching myself but has adorable character designs and a cute plot, is Squid Girl! It really fits the theme of kawaiicore/cutecore - and also has a unique premise that makes it really stand out! This series can be watched on Crunchyroll. <3
My final suggestion which is already well known within the community is Chobits! It does have some fan service, however the main lead is incredibly cute and relatable - and she is very fun to watch go about her life as a robot! It does have some serious topics and like I said, fan service - so I would only suggest if you are okay with that, however if not - that’s totally fine too!! ^^.
Some honorable mentions are…
Azumanga Daioh
Lucky Star
K-On
Tamako Market
Ouran High School Host Club
and Ichigo Mashimaro/Strawberry Marshmallow!
Feel free to add onto my list in the comments or let me know if you’d like a part 2!! ^^.

hiii is the pokemon anime entertaining? are there multiple ones? i've never really played any of the games but i remember seeing a few episodes as a kid, thought it could be fun to watch some of it now as an adult :-)
this is a really good question! i love the pokemon anime, but i would be the first to say that it is not necessarily good. if you go into it expecting lots of crazy plot and character development, you are going to be pretty disappointed. but if you go into it understanding that it is a goofy show made for children, then you can have a lot of fun!! its a feel-good show to me with cute characters, fun plots, and (usually) exciting battles. i guess the best comparision i can make is that if you like old school magically girl animes like sailor moon or tokyo mew mew then you will probably like pokemon too? in the sense that they can both get a little repetitive at times, but for the most part they are just lots of fun :-D
as for whether there are multiple animes, the simple answer is yes. you can watch them all here (just make sure to use a good ad blocker). as for which series to watch, ive put some basic info about the main series below the cut
firstly, a basic synopsis: each series follows ash ketchum and his partner pikachu as they explore a new region in an attempt to become a pokemon master. along the way they meet new companions, catch new pokemon, develop new rivalries, fight team rocket, and challenge gym leaders to become the best of the best! each generation can stand alone, although there is continuity between them.
Original Series (seasons 1–5)
as the name implies, this is the original series and what most people think of when they hear 'pokemon anime'. here, ash travels with companions misty and brock through the kanto and johto region. if you are the kind of person who likes watching things in order, then this is the place to start. it introduces ash as a brand new trainer and explains how he and pikachu became partners. the animation and voice acting is definitely a product of its time, but is still charming in its own way. the main pitfalls of this generation for me are that the individual episodes can get a little bit boring at times (usually follows a repetitive formula). also, because they were still finding their footing, there is a lot of what i will lovingly call 'bullshit'. a lot of the battles dont make sense, and gym badges are given to ash for stupid reasons (like making a gym leader laugh instead of battling them). pokemon are released for no good reason and things just altogether get weird sometimes. ash is also just so dumb in this generation but i still love him. all in all though, this is the og, and it is rightfully iconic.
Advanced Generation (seasons 6–9)
this is the generation i grew up watching!! this gen introduces travelling companions may and max as ash journeys through the hoenn region. i think this is the most quintessential pokemon anime experience you can get. brock makes a return as a companion and in the later seasons they even return to kanto. the main focus is still ash's gym battles, but they also introduce pokemon contests in this generation with may which is a nice bit of variety. at times it can still get a little frustrating, but for the most part they cut down on all the bullshit. i feel obligated to let you know a lot of fans think that max is an annoying character. but personally i think they are wrong. anyways, this is just a classic pokemon adventure!
Diamond and Pearl (seasons 10–13)
diamond and pearl has ash travelling with dawn and brock once again as they explore the sinnoh region. this is basically advanced generation but with different characters and different locations. pokemon contests are a bigger deal in this generation, but the main focus is still gym battles. diamond and pearl is known for starting to bring in more nuanced character relationships and more interesting battling. most fans of this series like it because ash has an interesting dynamic with his main rival. ash is decently more competent in this generation. all in all, this is a solid series, although perhaps a bit of an awkward place to start considering its the last generation of the "classic" era.
Best Wishes! (seasons 14–16)
best wishes is a bit of an interesting series. it was intended as a soft-reset to the anime as a whole, so there are many changes from the previous generations. the tone of the main plot is much darker, with team rocket being a serious evil team rather than the goofy troublemakers that they used to be. in following with the reset, ash has completely new travelling companions with iris and cilan. if i am being honest, i find these companions to be more annoying than lovable, but that is just personal preference. this series also suffers from ash is also becoming less competent again, although not in the cute dumb way he was in the original series. i'm being harsh on this generation, but its really not all bad. if you want pokemon but a bit more mature, then this might be the series for you.
XY (seasons 17–19)
a brief disclaimer: i never finished this series. i had grown out of my pokemon phase when i started watching it, so most of what i am saying is based on what i know from other fans. that being said, XY takes place in the kalos region with new companions serena, bonnie, and clemont. most fans will point to this as being the best generation of the anime. the animation is much better, and there is more focus on developing plot. there are also some fan favourite pokemon that come out of this gen. ash is significantly more competent here, and on the whole is much more mature than previous series. to me, this generation is much more 'anime' than the others if that makes sense. if the reason you want to watch pokemon for the childhood whimsy, this is not the season for you. but if you want something with more plot that takes itself a bit more seriously, then i think you will enjoy XY.
Sun & Moon (seasons 20–22)
sun & moon is completely unlike any of the other generations that came before it. rather than journeying around a region to collect gym badges, ash instead lives in the alola region and attends school. as such, the supporting cast is not travelling companions, but rather his schoolmates. when this series came out, there was a huge outcry because people thought the cartoony animation style was ugly. these people are just haters. the animation in this generation is actually amazing. the tone of this series is also just way lighter. personally i find all the characters to be very lovable. this generation is also team rocket at their peak to me (still silly but not as annoyingly repetitive). i do wish this series had more battling though there is not nearly enough. sun & moon is definitely not a traditional pokemon experience, but its cute and fun so i love it. i'll put it this way - if you like my little pony, you will probably like sun & moon.
anyways! that was very long winded, but i hope it helped! i've left out some other series because i don't think they make for great starting point/i haven't watched them, but these are the main six. if you have any more questions please let me know because i could have easily written double the length and still had more to say.

Had a dream there was an allusive new MySims game that everyone was talking about because a video of it randomly appeared on YouTube. The video stated that the game was bundled with a bunch of kid's movies on some legendary DVD that also played games. Among this MySims game were several Pretty Cure episodes, Tokyo Mew Mew, a few different Sonic cartoons, a few Mario games, the movie Little Nemo and the entirety of Madoka Magica for some reason which I thought was an odd choice among kid properties. The disc also has a unique capability where it could separate into VHS tapes of each cartoon that was on it. So for example if you wanted Madoka on VHS just take it from this DVD somehow.
The MySims game the dream made up was a visual novel type thing and the story was about Proto-Makoto reuniting with Dr. F. Due to many malfunctions Alexa and Dr. F got repeatedly frustrated with her and for some reason it got very dark and sad. And throughout this made up game Proto-Makoto would get more twisted and broken the more her choices lead to ridicule. There was a few scenes with regular Makoto and TOBOR trying to stand up for her and make things better. In the end there were two endings, the main ending that most people got where Proto-Makoto got fed up and killed everyone with a bomb she built, and the secret second ending where it you managed to collect every item Proto-Makoto would forgive the world and in the final act where she was about to kill everyone she would blast off into space and have the bomb blow up herself, sacrificing herself for the world.
Instead of using simlish the dream swapped between Japanese and English. Some moments were direct quotes word for word from Precure with Proto-Makoto being voiced by Ruru Amour's VA. As for Dr. F he kind of sounded like Jack Black for whatever reason probably because I watched Kung Fu Panda yesterday. Supporting characters were all crossovers such as Preme from Precure All Stars F, Ruru Amour, Papple, Higashi Setsuna (a lot of Precure characters), the fox from Kung Fu Panda 4, etc. Also it was unclear if the person Proto-Makoto worked for was Dr. F, Morcubus or Victor F they all sort of merged. Also think it has locations from all the previous MySims games and the player played the same character they did in Agents. Also think the dream claimed at one point that this is where some MySims Agents 2 storylines ended up.
That's all I know, thought it was an interesting dream now bye!

top 9 people you want to get to know better
@aristotels Thanks for tagging me, much appreciated.
favourite colour: I feel like as a kid I could pinpoint this without question. Now it's a lot more complicated? If you met us you'd probably think it's black, and we do be big fans of the color black (yes, color) I also really love different shades of orange, yellow, and green. Red is also just. Classic.
currently reading: It's always my goal to read more but the I just don't because reading is hard. I feel like I've actually gotten more dyslexic with age. I do got Lucifer: Princeps Princeps by Peter Grey on the end table right now. Last time I visited the boyfriends on the drive there and back I finally finished the Vatta's War series by Elizabeth Moon in audio book format and fuck that was such a good series. Also have manga that I bulk ordered for collecting reasons that I need to actually sit down and read. Things that I read scans of that I wanted physical copies of, like Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew, and My Dress Up Darling. Manga easier for dyslexia to read.
last song: My phone went to video game lofi for some reason while driving home from therapy on Tuesday so that was... Kakariko Village by Mikel & Gamechops.
last series: Spy x Family because I needed something wholesome and this series is so cute. Today's Jujutsu Kaisen new episode day though, so I'll be sitting down with the cule for that. Ironically before these two series I hadn't been watching any anime for literal years.
sweet, savoury or spicy?: I have the biggest sweet tooth. It's so bad.
currently working on: I'm FINALLY getting a replacement replacement ds lite top lcd screen in the mail because the first one I got was faulty. That reminds me when I go out today, I should bring the faulty screen to a staples or bestbuy for ewaste recycling. But yeah if everything goes well I'll have a gorgeous new navy blue ds lite for more pokemon shiny hunting and a youtube video that documents cleaning it up and fixing it. Just gotta test the new screen, solder the speakers in place from the original screen, and then reassemble everything. My next project is a blue wii that has no working disc drive and no gamecube ports on it anymore. Which is very. Interesting? I'm VERY curious about it. Also have a $4 portable dvd player that I found at goodwill that needed a power cable for so I ordered one and I'll be interested to test that out. Would be cool if I could get it to read movies off of a usb or hard drive but it doesn't have any usb female slots in it so that might be beyond my abilities right now. Wanna stress that anyone who wants can do this. If you do it because you saw me do it, tag me even if I didn't tag you, I wanna read. But to keep the tradition alive, I'm tagging @mel-kore @ashenrenewal @mspreciosa @revesvagabond @ideas-of-immortality @phantomroyalty @octopi-wall-street @theconstellarium @nymori there's absolutely no pressure here tho, do what you want to.

9 people you want to know better
Thanks for tagging me, @mobloomspell!
last song I listened to: Speed Drive from Barbie
currently watching: I'm not watching anything right now, unless you count the anime I haven't finished from last season (Mahou Shoujo Magical Destroyers and Tokyo Mew Mew New 2nd season) that I still plan on finishing, but haven't touched in weeks/months. I spent almost all summer away from home doing fieldwork and watching tv didn't fit in with that. I came home yesterday, but I'm still pretty busy, so I don't know when I'll have the chance to catch up with anything new.
currently reading: Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu got a new chapter this morning and it's what keeps me going week to week. I love it so much, it's my favourite ongoing series and one of the best manga I've ever read. I'm also keeping up with The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All, although I might put it on hold since I hate how short the chapters are (the reading experience gets too choppy), Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to, which has had some very interesting developments in the latest chapters, Daddy's Sexy Dolls, which you'll know about if you read my yuri post, Akebi-chan no Sailor Fuku, which is insanely good and has had some exciting developments as well - we're moving full speed towards yuri with that one, and My Girlfriend's Not Here Today, also from my yuri post/adventures. For older works I'm halfway through Nijigahara Holograph. I don't like it that much, Asano Inio has never done anything for me, and then I'm reading Pink by Okazaki Kyoko, which I adore, although I've only read a few chapters so far (I had to put it on hold since I couldn't find all of them earlier in the summer, but now I got them and I'm excited to continue!!!).
current obsession: That new Hunter x Hunter promotional video brought back all my Hunter x Hunter feels... It's horrible... It's one of those series I have to keep some distance to, because if I don't I literally cannot function, I spend all day thinking and crying over it. It's the same with NO.6 (which also made a return to my life in the form of Nendoroids) and Kaze to Ki no Uta. Besides that, I've been getting into and reading a whole lot of josei manga, which has been a lot of fun! Okazaki Kyoko (mentioned above) has become a new favourite author of mine, her stories are very raw and real. Moyoco Anno has a similar style, and I'm interested in checking out more works from Yamashita Tomoko. There's also Okazaki Mari, who I've heard and seen good things from! I've spent almost all summer reading, whenever I wasn't working or being social, and I'd love to continue, there's so much I want to get into!!
I'm tagging @theurbanfuturesoftherecentpast, @ihearasound, @itskyatto, @celia-the-pikachu, @nezoomi, @cookiecthulhu, @akroglam, @natsunes and @kuragawa-rumiko

12 Days of Manga 2022
Day 10: Top 3 Favourite Completed Manga
(These aren’t necessarily series that ended THIS year, but they are series that I personally completed this year!)
1) Sweat and Soap by Kintetsu Yamada from Kodansha (T: Matt Treyvaud L: Sara Linsly E: Kristin Osani)
Tumblr media
[ID: English Cover of Sweat and Soap Vol 11. A goofy shot of the entire wedding party for Asako and Natori‘s wedding. Asako wears a white lace dress and Koutaro wears a matching white suit.]
“In an office romance, there's a fine line between sexy and awkward... and that line is where Asako -- a woman who sweats copiusly -- met Koutarou -- a perfume developer who can't get enough of Asako's, er, scent. Don't miss a romcom manga like no other!
Asako's living her dream, working at the toiletry maker Lilia Drop. Little do her coworkers know, the reason she loves the company so much is that she's ashamed of her body odor, and their soap is the only thing that does the trick. So when the company's lead product developer, a perfuming genius, approaches her in the lobby and wonders what "that smell" is, she's terrified... but could it be... that he likes it? And, even more surprising to Asako... does she like him?
The hilarious ups and downs of an office romance at a personal care products company are the subject of this sexy, strange romp.
Sweat and Soap combines the odd-couple chemistry of Wotakoi, the "too real!" workplace comedy of Aggretsuko, and a heavy dollop of office steaminess!”
Sweat & Soap is yet another one of those manga that appears on everyone’s lists and actually deserves to be there. Which, if you want to be all 2013 Hipster about it, is incredibly frustrating but from every other perspective it is delightful and wonderful that a series that focusses on clear communication is so popular! If you’re looking for a series that deal with how kink negotation can be applied to every day life then this is one I can whole heartedly recomend!
Because that’s what Sweat & Soap comes down to: communication. Whilst Yamada admits the series began as simply them wanting to write about a big breasted office lady who got easily flustred (and honestly: valid) it quickly became something far more meaningful and stand out. Anytime I thought that a scene was a little off or that consent wasn’t clearly given it was talked about by the characters in an open and honest fashion!
When Ichise was introduced, i was worried it was going to decend into some sort of rival love triangle where both girls were out to get eachother; but rather what happened was a mature look at missed-out-love from her perspective, and clear boundry setting from Asako and Natori. It would be unreasonable for Asako to ask Natori to never speak to his work friend again, but it is not unreasonable for her to ask him to be less physically affectionate with her. He might see her like a little sister, but that doesn’t mean she is his little sister.
This series encapulates all that the phrase “Adult Romance” should. There’s sex, yes, but there’s also trying to figure out an appropriate work-life-balance, what to look for when moving into a new flat (advice I actualy used when moving out recently, so thanks for that on Yamada-sensei!) and how to get your girlfriend’s beloved family cat to actually play with you!!!!
I know I am going to be recomending this series for years to come, and I eagerly await to see if any of Yamada’s other work gets translated into English! Come on Kodansha, you like money, don’t you???
2) Tokyo Mew Mew by Reiko Yoshida and Mia Ikumi from Kodansha (T: Elina Curran L: AndWorld Design)
Tumblr media
[ID: English Edition of Vol 3 of the Tokyo MewMew Omnibus. Ichigo wears a straawberry themed wedding dress and veil that is pushed back past her cat ears. She carris a bouquet of flowers, and sits in a ring of pink and yellow stars. The background is light pink with a pattern of baby pink strawberries.]
“Ichigo is out on a date with her 'crush' when suddenly she's involved in an odd incident in which her DNA is merged with the DNA of an almost extinct wildcat. When four other girls' DNA is merged with the DNA of four other almost extinct animals, it's apparent that they're part of a much bigger plan. Ichigo and her friends have been chosen to become a part of a secret project called the 'Mew Project'. Their mission: To protect the planet from aliens who are using animals to attack humans!”
I first read this series way back in year 9 of school, but I don’t think I ever got beyond volume 2 or 3? So when the anime was announced I decided to re-read the whole series. And what a lot of fun it has been!
It’s been fun to revisit this time in manga, and it reminded me of my love of Action Shoujo! It’s so quintessentially magical girl, but doesn’t have some of the more yikes tropes that have me hesitating to recommend Sailor Moon or Cardcaptor Sakura to children. (CLAMP... why? Why all the student-teacher relationships?!)
Sure, Quiche -- sorry: Kish -- is a major creep when it comes to declaring his undying love for Ichigo but he is the villain! If you’re going to have someone disrespect boundries, it should be painted as acts of criminality and evil!
And like all good Magical Girl shows, the focus remains on the power of female friendship and how they can raise eachother up! Just a group of lesbians supporting their bisexual leader as she fumbles her way through teen romance.
I’ll admit I felt the ending was a little rushed in places, which meant that some of the scenes that should have had huge emotional impact were brushed over too quickly. I’m hopeful though that the new anime will fix that problem and allow things to progresss at an appropriate pace. I think they’ve done a good job so far in adapting it, and another 12 episodes should be all it needs!
My biggest gripe with the series is how Kodansha localised the names so inconsistently, sometimes choosing to translate the characters’ names into their appropriate food related topics and sometimes not. But it appears that the fandom itself cannot decide what version to use so at least there’s consistency in the inconsistency. These decisions often come from above, specifically from the Japanese Team, so I don’t hold Curran responsible, but it’s still something worth noting in my opinion. If I ever find my TokyoPop versions I’ll be sure to do a comparison!
At only 7 Volumes across 3 Omnibus Editions, this is absolutely worth investing in if you’re looking for some old school magical girl fun! Be that as someone new to the genre, or a vetran looking to relive the glory days before everything was Pretty Cure.
Now come on Sentai, do every little girl a favour and dub this series into English!!!
On the topic of the anime... given Ikumi-sensei’s passing this year, i felt very emotional reading her thoughts on getting to see the orignal anime under production. She was so excited to see eveything made, and got the seiyuu to write up little messages as their characters for all the readers. It’s so sad that she never got to see the fans’ reaction to the reboot. I suppose it’s a reminder to cherish the moments we have together, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
3) BL Metamorphosis by Kaori Tsurutani from SevenSeas (T: Jocelyne Allen L: Ray Steeves E: Jenn Grunigen)
Tumblr media
[ID: English Cover for Vol 5 of BL Metamorphosis. Ichinoi (an elderly woman) and Urara (a teenage girl) sit on a japanese verander drinking tea in the sunshine. There are plants growing all around them. Ichinoi looks u at the sky, and Urara looks groggily in a similar direction.]
“In this heartwarming and award-winning manga originally known as Metamorphose no Engawa, an elderly woman and a high school girl develop a beautiful friendship through their shared passion for Boys' Love.
Ichinoi, a seventy-five-year-old woman living a peaceful life, unwittingly buys a boys' love manga one day, and is fascinated by what she finds inside. When she returns to the bookstore to buy the next volume, the high school girl working there-Urara, a seasoned BL fan-notices a budding fangirl when she sees one. When Urara offers to help Ichinoi explore this whole new world of fiction, the two dive into the BL fandom together, and form an unlikely friendship along the way.”
Age Gap Romances are OUT! Age Gap Friendships are IN!
BL Metamophosis was a wonderful slow paced read, perfect at 5 volumes. It was great to see Ichinoi and Urara form such a strong bond between them, not just because intergenerational friendships are so uncommon in media but also because it proved that it’s never too late to start a new hobby and make new friends! The pair learn a lot from eachother, there’s mutual value in their relationship and the story is much more than some cliched message about how “there’s value in youth and in age”.
Urara learns to become more confident in herself and in the things she loves due to Ichinoi’s encouragement, and Ichinoi learns that just because she’s only got a few more years left to live doesn’t mean that she has to just keep still. I was especially moved by seeing her reflecting on her past regrets, and seeing them through Urara’s fresh eyes and being determined to no longer live like that. She might be much older now than before, but if she wants to go to the top of Tokyo Tower than she will!
I will also have to say, as someone with varaious chronic conditions and mental health problems, Ichinoi’s determination to fight to stay alive until the final volume of her favourite manga is published was incredibly relateable!
As much as I would love to know how Urara is getting on at school and what her life plans are (is she going to try to make more BL Comics?) I’m very content with how the series eneded. It gave closure to everyone’s arcs, whilst giving it a realistically happy ending. Nothing felt out of place.
This is absolutely a manga I would recommend to anyone, whether they be Urara’s age of Ichinoi’s! I’d also consider it a great starter manga given how short it is, and whilst perhaps an understanding of BL tropes is helpful I don’t think it’s needed as Ichinoi is being introduced to the genre along with the reader. If anything, I’d be really interested to know what someone who doesn’t know anything about BL thinks of the series!

toxic mew mew!! These are oooold ocs redesigned, they're called toxic mew mew bc they're all based on plants that are extremely toxic (and also, the team in general is pretty toxic, lol)
the lady in the middle poses as a teacher to get into a girl's correctional facility in california and inject this team of juvenile delinquents. this wouldve been a darker series that kind of explores 'well, what if the whole injecting animal dna into girls w/out their consent was done with someone with worse intentions/more manipulative than ryou, and if the girls weren't so cooperative with each other'...
more about them (and original designs for the sake of comparison) under the cut!
Tumblr media
2015 designs
Tumblr media
2017 redesigns! You can see the new ones are hard veers off the rails of what they looked like, but tbh I think the new designs/backstories are more fitting for the type of story I wanted to tell with these girls so /shrug
Tumblr media
Here's some civilian headshot concepts!! subject to change ofc, but. yeah :)
Character profiles:
Iris Amsel / Mew Foxglove / 17
Infused with the White-collar Kite
Fashion sense: preppy, expensive taste
Iris is in juvie because of her expensive tastes. her family is lower middle class, but she's obsessed with appearing more wealthy than she actually is. She started off having her on and off boyfriend steal money from his parents, and then she herself started stealing from her own family and got caught shoplifting from a high end boutique. She looks down on people who don't care for their appearance and puts up a snobby front. In reality she's a very insecure person who worries a lot about the future, and will latch on to anyone who promises her anything steady; which is why Lola was able to promise her lots of money and fame eventually from the mew stuff to get her on board...
Ruka Bates / Mew Bloodroot / 15
Infused with the Bonin flying Fox
Fashion sense: emo girly punk (think gir hot topic jackets/black and red plaid skirts, teased hair and emo bangs, fingerless gloves, raccoon tail hair clips, type 2000s outfits)
In juvie because of vandalism…actually, she didn't, though! She got framed by her bullies who had dragged her along to help them graffiti a building. the original design was something they stole from her notebook full of doodles, so it was easy for them to point at her as the main culprit. she's incredibly anxious and is a huge people-pleaser, so that gets her into a lot of trouble. Lola has kind of taken her under her wing as her favorite, but Ruka is still uneasy about all this mew stuff. She just doesn't want to disappoint Lola, so she goes along with it…
Lola Black / Mew Blacklocust / 24
Infused with Darwin's fox
Fashion sense: cozy, soft-colored outfits, lots of warm beige colors, hair in a bun most of the time and wears glasses. she looks a bit disheveled despite how pretty she is, which puts people at ease.
Her father was a rival of Ryou's father while Ryou's family was in America, and her dad became obsessive about surpassing their work before he died in a chimera-related accident. Lola sees this as Ryou's fault (if the mews had been more effective that wouldn't have happened type thing. She put together that he was behind the mew project because she's a genius, but she 100% uses her smarts for the wrong things and has NO moral code) She sneaks into the correctional facility all the girls are at to inject them all and herself to surpass tokyo mew mew. (this story takes place 5 or so years after tmm does). She appears as a very kind person who really wants to help disadvantaged teens, but in reality she's a very cold, jealous person who could care less what happens to her girls so long as they get her what she wants. She absolutely knows how the system works, and believes no one would care or notice these kids getting used since they're delinquents…
May Greensdale / Mew Mayapple / 16
Infused with the Mangshan Pit Viper
Fashion sense: casual sportswear, lots of jerseys (but she decorates them with bows) shorts under all her skirts, lots of varsity jackets and bedazzled merch of her former high school team
May is in juvie because of property destruction/arson. May is actually a very hyper girl who's known for being friendly/popular at school, as well as being a soccer star! She made decent grades and was well-liked by everyone, had a good relationship with her parents and siblings…so it was a shock when she got busted for setting the school on fire after a big game. (one that her team won, no less!) In reality the stress of being good at soccer (expected to get a scholarship) was getting to her, and she's someone with poor impulse control/very black and white mentality, so rather than just talk to her parents/coach and explain she doesn't have passion for the sport anymore she…decided no school= no soccer team= no pressure. She actually agrees to the mew stuff pretty quickly because it sounds fun, and she actually does like helping! but her very impulsive nature gets her and the others in trouble a lot and makes the others mad at her, which stresses her out...the others do see her as a bit of a ditzy girl, but she's actually pretty smart when she doesn't give into her own whims and actually thinks things through!
Cheryl Ambers / Mew Wintercherry / 17
Infused with the Death Valley Pupfish
Fashion sense: has a very tomboyish style, baggy hoodies with basketball shorts, has been wearing the same pair of beat up sneakers since middle school, hair always kind of a mess and just tossed into a ponytail.
Cheryl is in juvie for assaulting a teacher. She'd gotten into multiple fights at school before that because she has intense anger issues and neglectful parents who never taught her to cope with her strong emotions in a healthy way. She's always had a lot of issues with authority, so becoming a mew feels like meeting an 'adult who finally gets it' (is 100% manipulating her) and is letting her fight as much as she wants rather than telling her what to do. she and Iris are roommates and HATE each other at first (then over time become friends and possibly more) and keep enabling each others awful habits. when people are nice to her she genuinely has no idea how to react because she's been on the defensive her entire life.

We're two days off from the next Discotek Day, and ever since they picked up Kaitou Saint Tail in late 2022 and said that future releases in the much-neglected magical girl genre would depend on the sales of that series (and a lot of people picked it up), magical girl fans have been getting worked up in excitement about their favourite series getting rescued. I cannot possibly parse the clues in their customary clue thread, but I do know this:
-They will not be "rescuing" shows that are already, currently, licensed. Sorry if you miss the DiC/Pioneer/Cloverway dub of Sailor Moon and are mad that Viz's release doesn't have it. Viz has the Sailor Moon licence.
-Tokyo Mew Mew is asked for every single stream, but I don't think it's likely. Sentai has already expressed interest and is likely to pick it up if Tokyo Mew Mew New sells well.
-Every stream has one live-action Japanese movie, one old English-language cartoon (or, occasionally, highly altered dub), and usually one tokusatsu series.
-While they will license and release things that have never gotten translated before, if they can reuse a dub and/or sub from a previous release, they will. This is part media preservation, part practicality because they're a small company.
So, before this ages poorly, here are my guesses in order of likelihood for if they put a magical girl show on the stream on Monday:
Cutey Honey Flash
Aside from the rampant rumours that they've been planning it, they've already done other releases in the franchise, and one of the clues hinted towards a fanservice series or franchise. I'm gonna put this as highly probable.
2. Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's
They've already released the movies and the spiritual successor Symphogear, and the first season has been announced as well. Why wouldn't they get the fandom's darling favourite season?
3. Wedding Peach
Previously licensed and released in full. People used to hate on this anime, but I feel the atmosphere has cooled down some, although the level of Straight Nonsense™ in the series will probably drive new viewers up the wall.
4. Fancy Lala
Previously licensed and released in full. Might also be an easy interest check to see if there's enough engagement for...
5. The '80s Pierrot Shows
Previously licensed by Anime Sols in their "crowdfund the classics" plan, and the ones that did get streaming releases have fallen off RetroCrush recently. I believe Creamy Mami is still on Tubi TV, but as we've seen from Sentai releasing Crunchyroll shows like Eizouken, GRANBELM, and Cinderella Nine on Blu-ray, physical and streaming rights are separate, so it's still plausible we could get them. Especially Persia the Magic Fairy, which never even got a streaming release.
6. Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch
Previously licensed, but sub and dub were both never released and are lost media. Sentai and affiliates probably still have the files lying around from when they were ADV, just not the licence, so it might be possible to get the work that was already done. This is higher up on the likelihood list because of its widespread popularity in the magical girl fandom in its era and the success of the anniversary merch last year. Even how disappointing the manga sequel was hasn't killed Pichi's vibe.
7. Corrector Yui
Previously licensed and released in part. Viz never finished the show, but hey, a started job is better than none. Plus its popularity in other countries could give it a boost.
8. Sky Dancers
The requisite English retro cartoon guess. Sky Dancers edged out Tenko and the Guardians of the Magic because the live-action footage and connection to the Princess Tenko brand might require extra negotiations, but I could be wrong. Either way, it's cheesy and silly and very much in line with some of their other cartoons like Street Fighter or Street Sharks.
9. Aikatsu or Shugo Chara
Yes, I know Aikatsu isn't really a magical girl series... or is it? It's one of those edge cases on the Corrector Yui line, where a series conforms to the magical girl genre but explains it all with sufficiently advanced technology.
Both received streaming-only releases, and with Aikatsu it's no longer available anywhere since the downfall of Daisuki, but they lose points for being made up of multiple four-cour seasons. Who has the resources for that?
I don't know, those are my theories. What do you all think?
