Cyrus's Guide to Grunge
Contents :
What is grunge?
The fashion
Grunge media
What is Grunge?
Grunge is described as "A darker, edgier style that is usually depicted these days with glitches, vinyl records, cigarettes, neon lights, and the color black (which is only loosely related to the original grunge). Historically, the original grunge movement has its roots in the 1990s hard rock scene of Seattle, Washington. It was a countercultural, anti-consumerism youth movement and music genre that defined Generation X. Grunge fashion was made popular by bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Soundgarden, and was meant to be timeless and quite casual." (source)
2014 Tumblr Grunge, to me, is like the original 1990s grunge but more love sick teenage girls, teenage rebellion and dyed hair. This type of grunge is what this guide is going to focus on.
The Fashion
This is what I found on multiple websites. I have split it up into different categories. Remember, this isn't what you HAVE to wear to be called grunge. This is what grunge fashion is usually. The good thing about grunge is that it's made to be cheap, you can get grunge fashion stuff from thrift/charity shops, family members, etc.
Hair
Bangs
Space buns
Messy buns
Long bob
Long hair
Short hair
Pigtails
Microbangs
Makeup
• Dark eyebrows
• Black smokey eye
• Eyeliner, usually thin
• Dark lipstick - burgundy, purple, black
Tops
• Tie-dye, band tees (PLEASE LISTEN TO THE BAND), or graphic tees
• Black and white striped shirts
• White, black and grey crop tops
• Band and fandom printed t-shirts
• T-shirts printed with patterns popular at that time, such as galaxy, horizontal stripes, and black and white grids
• Plain black and white t-shirts
Bottoms
• Tie-dye shorts
• Galaxy print leggings
• Ripped jeans
• Cuffed jeans
• Ripped jeans
• Black skinny jeans (typically associated with the Hot Topic emo fans)
• Pleated tennis skirts
• Fishnet tights
• Knee socks
Outerwear
• Studded jackets
• Flannel shirts, often tied around the waist
• Long black cardigans or zip-up hoodie
• Denim jackets, leather jackets
Shoes
• Black or white platforms
• Converse sneakers
• Creepers
• Combat boots
• Vans shoes, often the black and white checks
Accesories
• Studded hairbands
• Black tights, often ripped
• Black fishnets
• Chokers and necklaces with crystal pendants. Lock pendant necklaces
• Silver rings, optional black details
• Round black or pastel sunglasses
• Black plastic chokers and bracelets
• Beanies
• Flower crowns
• studded belts
• Crystal necklaces or any necklaces
Grunge Media
Again, I've sorted these into categories. It's better if the song/movie came out in 2014!
If it's in bold, I love it!
Artists
• Lana Del Rey
• Arctic Monkeys
• The XX
• The Neighbourhood
• The 1975
• Hozier
• Charli XCX
• Lorde
• Troye Sivan
• Halsey
• Melanie Martinez
• Twenty One Pilots

from Reckless Chants #20: A Field Guide to Vanished Things (May 2014)
7. Old Style
If Blatz is a Sconnie thing, then Old Style is a Chick-AH-Go thing. That’s always been sorta funny to me, the fact that Old Style is Chicago’s Beer, when in actual fact it’s made by Pabst, up here in Wisconsin. I got into an argument about it, once. I was at a party at J.’s house—J. who was sorta like a queer anarchist punk mama to the rest of us, in that she was in her thirties, which means she was a lifer in those scenes, whereas the rest of us were mostly still in our late teens our early twenties. I was at this party, and it was all feasting on dumpstered avocados, dancing in the living room to underground queer hip-hop, dancing outside in the first thunderstorm of summer, and drinking Old Style. Some kid said: “Oh, I love drinking Old Style, cos it’s from right here in Chicago.” -“Nah, man,” I said, “it’s from Wisconsin.” He wouldn’t believe me, even when I pointed to the place on the can where it said: Pabst Brewing Company, Milwaukee, WI. It was a dumb thing to argue about, and it don’t really matter where it’s brewed. It may be brewed in Milwaukee, but it’s Chicago’s beer—no one drinks it anywhere else, because it’s truly awful. I’d rather drink PBR. I’d rather drink Blatz. Sometimes, if I’m feelin’ extra homesick for Chicago, I’ll think about picking up some tallboys of Old Style, think about drinkin’ one while listening to Naked Raygun (can this healing elixir pull me through?), but then I’ll remember how gross it is and decide against it. Some beer is just so shitty that not even nostalgia can make it taste okay. —from a longer piece, titled “Nothing Left But Stale Beer”

Styles of Prep - Games that Care
Yet another of the lies that Wizards of the Coast has sold TTRPG players, which they've bought into wholeheartedly, is that there are different styles of preparation, and all are valid for every game (because both are valid for D&D, and D&D is right for every game, of course.)
I'm gonna go over a couple games I've run, and explain that actually they all care about the type and level of preparation the GM does.
Indie games are often honest and open about what they want. To take a high-prep example, I recently ran Eureka: Investigative Urban Fantasy. It is not subtle! In the narrator section, right after the introduction, it says "We cannot advise you strongly enough to use prewritten adventure modules". It's not just there - throughout the rules, there's an emphasis that the situation, the state of the world at the outset and thus at every time that follows, is known and rigid. Eureka is a mystery game - the who, what, how, why, and more are all set in stone. The narrator is forbidden to change the scenario on the fly.
Eureka is very forceful of this because the authors, writing a game for mystery investigations, are well aware that it's damn near impossible to make a coherent mystery up on the fly. I'm sure they've tried. I've tried. It's impossible. Something will contradict, and you won't notice until well after the players have reasoned from that contradictory information. It can be done, but not well, and the mental load on the GM is going to kill them.
It's not a genre thing - Eureka is a game about the act of solving mysteries, but so in Brindlewood Bay. I don't have experience with Brindlewood Bay myself, but I do know that the GM doensn't have a real mystery ahead of time - there's a move which is rolled to determine whether a theory is correct. Both are mystery games, but they approach them differently - and each makes a vastly different demand of the GM's preparations.
On the opposite end of the spectrum from Eureka, more in line with Brindlewood Bay in fact, is just about every Powered by the Apocalypse game. Apocalypse World is very clear about what to prepare, and it's more or less the opposite of Eureka: "Daydream some apocalyptic imagery, but DO NOT commit yourself to any storyline or particular characters."
The rules actually tell you to start on what would typically be 'prep' during the first session: "Work on your threat map and essential threats". It's more like note-taking, at that point, just placing the names of stuff that gets mentioned in the session. After that first session, and between each other, you do some real out-of-session work, solidifying the notes you made into Threats.
I won't go into it at length, but Dungeon World is much the same - though there's no 'map' for threats, as characters are expected to be far more mobile, the system of solidifying problems that were mentioned in-game into problems with some mechanically attached descriptors is much the same.
Now, on to the elephant-sized dragon in the room - Dungeons and Dragons. The game itself is, truthfully, quite honest about this. It's the marketing team and the community, having fallen for their propaganda, who pretend low-prep is a valid way to play Dungeons and Dragons.
The 2014 DMG, correctly, focuses on prepared play. It asks DMs to consider "Do you like to plan thoroughly in advance, or do you prefer improvising on the spot?", but everything in that book is either rules text or preparation guides. Mostly the latter.
D&D, as it has existed since 3rd edition, (this is what I have experience with - I can't speak to earlier editions, except to note that there are alot of modules in their time and in the OSR tradition) is a game that thrives on prep. Even if that prep is procedural - tables of encounters and wandering monsters for an area, for example - it's impossible to run the game from nothing, without a lot of background, and have it work.
Imagine not knowing D&D, at all - you pick it up, read the non-list rules (so skipping most of the classes, races, spells, feats, backgrounds, weapons, etc) in the PHB and DMG, and try to run a game entirely improv from the rules and vibes. You'd quickly end up scouring the monster manual for appropriate encounters - and the game, by the rules, demands appropriate encounters! There's a budget system! It's a game about killing monsters and does a lot of math to try and make sure it's challenging without killing player characters.
D&D, at least in the books, is pretty honest about what it wants from preparation. It wants a lot! The playerbase pretends otherwise, but they're wrong. I've yet to find another game that tries to lie like this. Eureka wants you to use modules. Apocalypse World wants you to wing it. I have yet to find any game that actually doesn't care.

Hihi! Absolutely adore your fics <3 so i wanted to request smth for the first time :)
Can i request a g dragon x reader who is fun chaotic and just kind of matches his vibe she is also an idol (maybe she is from 2NE1 👀) and the two are pretty close friends and have fun , teasing eachother at award shows , shared concerts , shared interviews etc.. speculations begin on their relationship if its more than just friends based of how they acted when ever they are together. and one day the two kind of confess cause they do indeed like eachother ^^
(2014 , 2013 g dragon hits dif ngl)
I like you too ; a new start ?
You were a well-known member of 2NE1, celebrated for your exceptional dance skills, striking visuals, and most notably, your bright, cheerful personality, which made you a beloved presence among both fans and your labelmates in BIGBANG.
During the collaborative stages between 2NE1 and BIGBANG, you and g-dragon were a dynamic duo, captivating audiences with your electrifying performances. Fans adored the undeniable chemistry you both shared on stage.
At award shows, you both were often seated next to each other, whispering, laughing, and sharing inside jokes. One particular moment, a clip of ji yong casually brushing a strand of hair from your face went viral, fueling endless fan speculation about whether there was something more than just friends or labelmates between you two.
During a joint interview with 2NE1 and BIGBANG, the mc playfully asked ji yong if there was anyone he liked at the moment. Instead of giving a direct answer, he simply shrugged with a teasing smirk before winking at the mc, leaving everyone in the room gasping and fans buzzing with endless theories.
──────────────────────
“ji yong, so are you saying the rumors are true?" the mc asked, eyes widening in surprise.
"I don’t know what you mean by that!” ji yong laughed, clearly flustered, his hand coming up to cover his face in embarrassment.
"Is it true, y/n?” The unexpected question caught you off guard, and you could only shake your head, letting out a nervous laugh.
Almost instantly, whispers and teasing spread among both groups, turning the entire interview into a chaotic yet hilarious moment that fans would replay over and over again.
──────────────────────
During one concert, ji yong suddenly grabbed your wrist and pulled you into the spotlight during a breakdance segment.
“Go y/n! go, go y/n!” he chanted, hyping you up as the crowd erupted in cheers.
With no choice but to go along with it, you jumped into the beat, effortlessly freestyling. ji yong quickly joined in, matching your moves in perfect sync, the two of you feeding off each other’s energy. The stage lit up with excitement, and the moment became one of the most talked-about highlights of the night.
──────────────────────
The media would often catch you and ji yong in matching outfits, from stylish clothes to accessories that seemed to complement each other perfectly. Whether it was a coordinated jacket or matching rings, fans and reporters alike couldn’t help but notice the subtle, yet undeniable connection between the two of you. The matching styles only added fuel to the rumors, sparking even more curiosity about the true nature of your relationship.
Despite how the media portrayed you both, the truth was simpler and more complicated. You liked him, and he liked you but deep down, you both were too afraid to talk about it, worried that confessing would risk the friendship you’d built over the years. The unspoken feelings lingered between you both, making every shared glance, every subtle touch, feel like both a promise and a fear of what could happen if things ever changed.
He was always incredibly gentle with you, always looking out for you in small, thoughtful ways. He’d let you wear his jacket when it got cold, offering to buy you meals when you were too busy to grab something for yourself, and he’d even help you during rehearsals, guiding you through tricky parts of choreography for upcoming concerts.
For him, you were magnetic. There was something about you that he couldn’t quite put into words. Your personality, your appearance, everything about you drew him in, leaving him constantly captivated. Every time you laughed or shared a story, he felt a spark in his chest. Even the slightest touch, like your hand brushing against his, made his stomach flip, sending waves of nervous excitement through him.
When you both had to share a stage again, you couldn't help but feel nervous, crazy even. Why? Because this time, it wasn’t just any regular shared stage, it was something completely different. The song choice wasn’t funky or pop, it was a romantic, sultry track that required a level of chemistry neither of you had anticipated.
During rehearsals, ji yong became unusually cautious, avoiding being too touchy with you. It wasn’t because he didn’t like you, it was because he couldn’t handle the emotions that surged through him every time you both came too close. The same went for you. Each time your hands brushed or your bodies came within inches of each other, it sent a wave of nervous energy through you both. You knew that if you gave in to the chemistry, it might become too hard to ignore, so you both tried to keep it professional, even though it was becoming increasingly difficult.
On the day of the performance, ji yong found himself unable to take his eyes off you. The stage outfit you wore had a way of making you even more stunning, something about the way it fit you, the way you moved in it, made you look even more breathtaking than usual. It was as if the stage lights only highlighted your beauty, and every glance he stole from you sent a rush of emotions through him that he couldn’t quite control. His usual confidence faltered for a moment, and he found himself caught in a moment of admiration, his heart racing as the performance loomed closer.
As the performance progressed, you both nailed every move, feeding off each other’s energy and delivering the perfect show. Everything was going as planned, and you were both in sync, until the outro. The lights dimmed, casting long shadows across the stage, highlighting your silhouettes. In that fleeting moment, as the music slowed, ji yong stepped closer to you and without a word, he cupped your face gently, his thumb grazing your cheek and he leaned in and kissed you. The soft touch of his lips leaving both of you breathless, as the last note echoed through the venue.
As the kiss lingered for those precious few seconds, the audience erupted into chaos. The cheers, gasps, and shouts filled the arena, as fans lost their minds over what they had just witnessed. The stage lights flickered as the final notes of the song faded, but the energy in the room only grew stronger. Backstage, the members of both groups stood frozen in shock, unable to believe what they had just seen. Their eyes widened, and whispers quickly spread among them, the tension palpable as they processed the unexpected moment. The kiss wasn’t planned at all, ji yong just took the risk at that very moment.
Once you both made it backstage, the silence was deafening, the weight of the moment still hanging in the air but that silence didn’t last long. As soon as your members caught sight of you, the teasing began. You could feel your cheeks heating up as the teasing continued, and you struggled to find the right words, your mind still racing from the unexpected kiss. ji yong, who had been unusually quiet beside you, just shrugged and gave a sheepish grin, clearly just as flustered.
After the teasing subsided, your members, sensing the need for a moment of peace, quietly stepped away, leaving you both alone backstage. The silence between you both was thick with unspoken words, neither of you knowing exactly how to process what had just happened. The adrenaline from the performance had faded, and now all that was left was the weight of the kiss that had changed everything.
ji yong glanced over at you, his usual confidence replaced with vulnerability. “y/n…” he started, his voice softer than usual, but the words seemed stuck. You met his gaze, your heart still racing, unsure whether to speak first or let the moment linger.
He finally broke the silence, his voice barely above a whisper but filled with sincerity.
"I really, really like you. It's been a long time now, and it's been quite hard to dodge my feelings towards you" he confessed, his eyes searching yours for any sign of understanding.
ji yong’s gaze softened as he continued, his voice almost hesitant. "And I understand if you don’t like me back. I just... I just wanted to get it off my chest."
He looked down for a moment, clearly nervous about your reaction, but his words hung in the air, raw and unfiltered. The weight of the confession lingered, and you could feel your heart racing, unsure of what to say but knowing that this moment would change everything.
You looked up at him, your gaze soft and steady, the same gaze that ji yong had been avoiding to keep his emotions from overflowing. He turned to walk away, but stopped when you spoke up, with your voice a little shaky.
“ji..” you began, he turned back around to face you.
You were looking down, nervously fidgeting with your fingers.
“ji yong" you whispered, your voice barely audible, but enough for him to hear. "I like you too... I just don’t know how to—"
The words hung in the air, your heart racing as you struggled to finish. The weight of the confession was overwhelming, and you felt vulnerable, unsure of how to make sense of everything between you both.
He slowly walked up to you, his steps soft but purposeful, and before you could say another word, he pulled you into a hug. His arms wrapped around you gently.
"Im glad to know that" he murmured, his voice filled with relief and something softer, almost tender.
You rested your head against his chest, the feeling of his heartbeat beneath your ear making everything feel more real. In that moment, all the hesitations، and the confusion faded into the background, leaving only the quiet understanding that this was just the beginning of something new.
Just a few weeks later, the media caught on. Photographers snapped pictures of you and ji yong out together, the two of you clinging to each other more closely than usual. The way his arm was casually draped around your shoulders, the way you both laughed and seemed to melt into each other,it was clear to anyone watching that something had shifted between you. The rumors that had once swirled in the background now had undeniable evidence, and the media quickly exploded with headlines, leaving fans eagerly speculating about the status of your relationship.
But would you both confirm your relationship status? No, you decided that the world’s opinion was a secondary concern. The two of you had built something personal, something that was yours to navigate without the pressure of public expectations. The media could speculate all they wanted, but you both knew what was real.
even though you and ji yong haven’t officially confirmed your relationship to the public, both 2NE1 and BIGBANG members are fully aware that you both were dating each other. It’s no longer a secret to them. The playful teasing was endless. Yet, you and ji yong remained quiet on the matter, choosing to keep the details of your relationship between the two of you, no need to rush into anything public when the understanding among your closest friends was enough.

New today on DA:TV from Game Informer:

"A Deep Dive Into Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s Expansive Character Creator by Wesley LeBlanc on Jun 27, 2024 at 02:00 PM As BioWare prepared to show me the character creator for Dragon Age: The Veilguard in its Edmonton, Canada, offices, I expected something robust – it's 2024, character creators have come a long way, and Bioware has a rich history of good customization. Despite my expectations, I was not prepared for how robust it actually is in Veilguard. Robust enough, even, that BioWare used it to create most of the NPCs in the game, save for mainline characters like companions. Setting hyperbole aside, it is a staggeringly rich creation system, and I look forward to seeing player-created near-replicas of celebrities and monstrous creations that'd be more at home in a horror game. But I'm also looking forward to the community's reaction to the Dragon Age series' best character creator yet. At the heart of it is inclusivity, Veilguard game director Corinne Busche tells me before letting me guide her through creating my own character."

"As is usual, there are four races to choose from: Elves, Qunari, Humans, and Dwarves. After selecting Qunari, Busche pages through various presets, explaining the game allows for more detailed looks at each and the ability to choose pronouns with she/her, he/him, and they/them separately from gender, select different body types, and more. You can view your character, referred to as Rook in-game, in four different lighting scenes at any time, including The Veilguard's keynote purple hue, a bright and sunny tropical day, and a gothic night. I joke with the team that after spending upwards of an hour creating my Dragon Age: Inquisition character in 2014, I immediately restarted the game after seeing him in the first cutscene; the in-game lighting made my hair color look terrible amongst other issues I had with my Inquisitor. Veilguard creative director John Epler says the team is aware of countless stories like that with Inquisition and its green-hued character creator, adding BioWare worked hard to squash that concern in Veilguard. Head and body presets can be selected individually and customized to your liking with 40 different complexions that include smooth, rugged, youthful, and freckled skin tones, skin hues ranging from cool to neutral to warm, undertones to those skin tones, and even a melanin slider. Busche tells me BioWare relied on consultation to represent all people authentically. There's a Vitiligo slider (where you can adjust the intensity and amount of it) and sliders for your forehead, brow, cheeks, jaw, chin, larynx, and scalp. You can select your undergarments, with nudity as well because "this is a mature RPG," Busche adds, and use the "Body Morpher" to select three presets for each corner of a triangle and then move a cursor within it to morph your body or head into a mix of these presets. It's an impressive technology I'd like to see adopted in other games. [link to embedded DA:TV gameplay reveal video]"
"I can keep going: You can adjust height, shoulder width, chest size, glute and bulge size, hip width, how bloodshot your eyes are, how visible cataracts are, the sclera color, how crooked your nose is, how big its bridge is, the size of nostrils and the nose tip, and there are as many sliders, if not more, for things like Rook's mouth and ears. On ears alone, I see you can adjust asymmetry, depth, rotation, earlobe size, and even add cauliflower ear to your Rook. Busche says makeup blends modern stylings with the fantasy of Dragon Age with more than 30 options, including eyeliner intensity, color, glitter, eye shadow, lips, and blush. Tattoos are just as customizable alongside options for scars and paint. Tattoos, scars, and paint are very culturally relevant to some lineages, BioWare tells me, with unique tattoos for elves, for example. You can add tattoos to Rook's face, body, arms, and legs, and you can adjust things like intensity, too. Im most impressed, however, by the hair options on display; there are a ton, and as someone with long hair, I'm especially excited about the fun selections I can make. You can finally dye your hair with non-traditional colors, and it's gorgeous. EA's Frostbite engine uses the Strand system to render each style fully with physics. "The technology has finally caught up to our ambition," Dragon Age series art director Matt Rhodes says. After customizing all of that and selecting our Qunari's horn type and material (of which there are more than 40 options to choose from), it's time to pick a class out of the Rogue, Mage, and Warrior – read more about Veilguard's classes here. Since we built a Qunari, we went with Warrior. For the penultimate step of the character creator, at least during the demo BioWare shows me, we select a faction. Out of the six options, we select the pirate-themed Lords of Fortune."

"Rook ascends because of competency, not because of a magical McGuffin," BioWare core lead and Mass Effect executive producer Michael Gamble tells me in contrast to Inquisition's destiny-has-chosen-you-characterization. "Rook is here because they choose to be and that speaks to the kind of character that we've built," Busche adds. "Someone needs to stop this, and Rook says, 'I guess that’s me.'" Ready to begin our Rook's journey, we select a first and last name and one of four voices out of English masculine, English feminine, American masculine, or American feminine options. There's a pitch shifter for each voice, too, allowing you to tweak it to your liking further. Don't stress too much about locking in your character creations before beginning the game – the Mirror of Transformation, which is found in Veilguard's main hub, The Lighthouse, allows you to change your physical appearance at any time. However, class, lineage, and identity are locked in and cannot be changed after you select them in the game's character creator. From here, we're off to Minrathous, and you can read more about that famed city in our cover story, which is available here. For more about the game, including exclusive details, interviews, video features, and more, click the Dragon Age: The Veilguard hub button below."

🖥️ 🧸 a new (old) approach for 21st-century kids using computers… chronological order
as our kiddo gets older we are going on a journey with her, focusing on the evolution of computing from where it started, and using each one, in order.
our adventure begins with retrofitting a 1998 littletikes/ibm playset to house the early computers, providing her with a tangible way to interact with these machines. might need to do emulators for some of these, but trying to see if we can get many of these, build/re-build, or borrow -
some of the plans will be to explore the hardware - on how it all worked before computing moved to sealed black rectangles that's mostly used to buy things or pay subscriptions services.
here's the "playlist" so far - have any suggestions?
altair 8800 (1975) apple i (1976) commodore pet (1977) apple ii (1977) atari 400/800 (1979)
commodore vic-20 (1980) ibm pc (1981) commodore 64 (1982) apple macintosh (1984) amiga 500 (1987)
next computer (1990) sun sparcstation 10 (1992) compaq presario 425 (1993) sony vaio pcv (1996) apple imac g3 (1998) dell dimension xps t500 (1999)
this approach also seems like it could be a kid's book - a book for parents to follow along with their kids on the history of computers with how-tos on building, or emulating them. maybe even a "build-a-bear" - style workshops / classes for kids and parents, but for making their first computers together…
more later!
🕹️ this was inspired by andy baio's approach of guiding his son through the chronological history of video games (2014)

Achieving the iconic 2015 look as a 2025 girl!
Have you ever told yourself you were born into the wrong generation? Maybe it’s the nostalgia of listening to One Direction on your iPhone 5, or maybe you’re older and can enjoy it more now. Whatever the case may be, if you’re reading this you also miss the good energy of the 2013-2016s. And if that is the case, this is the post for you! Achieving a real and authentic 2015 inspired year is nowhere near as unobtainable as it might seem. From youtube, to fashion inspo let this post be your guide to unleashing your inner icon!
Fashion Inspiration!

King kylie, Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande and Sky Ferreria! All iconic and well known fashion icons. Whether you're a Pinterest 2014 girl or a Tumblr 2015 one, you at least are familiar with one. Luckily a huge part of the era's fashion is it's simplicity. Depending on the sub-style you're going for, your inspiration can range anywhere from shabby chic to grunge!
Regardless of color, most of the essentials remain the same. Skater girl skirts? Make it pink or black, and it works no matter the aesthetic! Though for some things, such as the coquette shabby chic, try things like floral wedges and flowy dresses! And for grunge, try flannels, black skinny jeans and converse! Fashion is all about what works for you, which is why it's important to find your style before anything else. Fashion inspo is just as unique as you are!
Movies and Books!

Of course, to really embrace the energy of a 2015 icon, you have to surround yourself with it! Staple movies like, The Fault in our stars and Paper towns are a way one ticket to nostalgia. Other movies such as Divergent, The Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby and If I Stay are perfect additions to your 2015 movie nights! My personal favorite movies of the time are All the bright places, Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List and LOL. The early 2010's were the best movie era in my opinion and this filmography list proves it!
The books however, are an entirely more diverse subject. While most 2010's movies are either mostly dystopian or romance, the books are a whole different ballpark. From horror to romcom to sci-fi, there's a fit for everyone! The most popular choices are of course John Green and your typical dystopian series; however, I raise a much larger choice of selections. In terms of sci-fi with a mix of romance the Caster Chronicles series (Beautiful Creatures) is a phenomenal series and an even better movie. If horror is more your speed, Natasha Preston's The Cellar and Welcome to the Dark House by Parker Bradley are definitely CoCo approved! Finally for the love nuts, aka me, To All the Boys I've Loved Before is a classic and obvious choice, but I would be a fraud to not include it!
Music Music Music!

One beautiful thing about the 2010's is it's consistency in music that makes you feel! For most people, that feeling is sadness LOL. However, there is poetry in that writing which makes the inner ache of somber all worth it for the bliss of melody. Artists like The 1975, Marina, Lana Del Rey and Lorde are all versatile and perfect artists to get you right back in that nostalgic state!
Whether you're looking for a more girlish vibe or a darker energy, the 2010's are a great time for whatever musical desires you have! I will leave my link to my 2014 playlist right here! Whether you use it for yourself or inspiration is up to you! Please let me know in the comments if you end up liking it, or link your own playlists!!!
Room Decor!

The quickest way to achieve a realistic 2015 inspired room is to go onto Pinterest and find your niche! For some super personal ideas on how to make your room aesthetically you, check out some old DIY YouTube videos. They range from various aesthetics, and you can personalize them anyway you please! My favorite youtubers to watch are MyLifeAsEva, LaurDIY, Alisha Marie and of course my queen of DIY Bethany Mota.
For the overall aesthetic, if you’re one of the grungier girls, opt for posters like The 1975 or The Neighborhood. Things like black throw pillows or printed out photos of you and your friends are perfect for achieving your look. Cutting out clippings from magazines and making collages is also a fun and free way to personalize your room!
Now if you’re like me and you’re more of a pink girl, try floral sheets like tulips or daisies! Fur throw pillows and double sided sequin pillows are a good touch for your bed too. Posters like Lana Del Rey and Ariana Grande are more 2015-esque touches, along with string lights and polaroids!
No matter the aesthetic, what’s really important is personalization! You don’t want your room to be the same as everyone else’s, it should be unique and showcase who you are!
In Conclusion..

Whether you’re a Tumblr grunge or a Pinterest shabby chic, I hope this guide helps you in any way it can! The most important thing about truly making this year your dream aesthetic is all in your experience. 2025 is what you make it! Whether it’s staying at home all day reading TFIOS, or if it’s going out and taking polaroids on the beach. Any year can be any aesthetic you want, as long as you hope it so. Even small things like hanging out with friends or watching nostalgic YouTube videos can make your year what you want it to be!
Thank you so much for reading, and for all of the support I have gotten! I truly haven’t been posting for long, but I have already made friends and gotten so much love and I want to thank you all so very much for it! If there’s anything you’re interesting in me reading, or want a more in depth explanation for, please let me know in the comments! I love you divas, stay cutesy!

How to get into Gundam
Because fuck it, I was gonna do one of these sooner or later anyway.

So you want to know what this Gundam thing’s about, maybe you like the mecha design, maybe you caught part of an episode one time and want to catch up, or maybe you saw a nice piece of Chamuro fanart and want to go to the source.
But there’s so many shows and timelines that it can be quite daunting on first look, so this guide is intended to give a rough overview.
I would however like to stress two four things beforehand however:
This guide is not intended as “The One True Way” or anything. There’s no harm it coming into it a different way, and these are only my own opinions.
There’s nothing stopping you from just watching one show and leaving it there. You don’t have to watch every single show going, even I’ve only seen most of these, not all. Gundam typically has variations on similar themes - it’s very nice watching multiple shows because they complement one another, but it’s not necessarily required.
I am very much an insider looking out here, so let me know if there’s any details I’ve missed.
I’m not gonna recommend these on a “if you like X, then watch Y basis”, mostly because I don’t personally find genre recommendations helpful, so I’d recommend picking based on promotional material (vibes, if you will).
I’ll be using this chart, supplied by the excellent@l-crimson-l, to illustrate everything.
Gundam as a whole can principally be divided into three sections: Universal Century (or UC), the Alternate Universes (AU’s) and the Build Series.

The AU’s are below the light blue line, near the bottom of the Chart, the Build Series is within the bright green line at the top-right corner of the chart and UC is the big line in the middle. We’ll talk about each of them individually.
The AU’s
The Alternate Universes were conceived as a way to get away from the continuity-heavy nature of Universal Century and provide an easy jumping-on point for new fans. The AU’s are standalone and require no prior knowledge, and are thus an excellent place to start. Honestly, I’d recommend quickly searching some promotional materials (like posters) and just going with the one you find most appealing based on that. They are (in production order):
Mobile Fighter G Gundam (1994)
New Mobile Report Gundam Wing (1995)
After War Gundam X (1996)
Turn A Gundam (1999)
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED (2002)
Mobile Suit Gundam 00 (2007)
Mobile Suit Gundam AGE (2011)
Gundam: Reconguista in G (2014)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans (2015)
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (2022)
There’s side series and movies and other things besides, but these are the mainline shows, if you will. I have specific notes on a few of them:
Witch From Mercury - It’s of a shorter length than is usual for mainline shows, so consequently it’s a much smaller time investment than the others.
Mobile Fighter G Gundam - While undeniably rad as hell, I would recommend watching another AU first. G Gundam differs from its stablemates in a few key areas, and I find it helps to have a contrast to fully appreciate those differences.
Gundam AGE - is probably the only one I wouldn’t recommend. I didn’t like the art style and the technical explanations just got on my nerves, so I stopped watching.
Turn A and G-Reconguista are technically part of UC as well, but it’s not really crucial information so don’t feel like you have to watch UC first (I’m only including this detail for completionism).
I’ve found all the AU’s I’ve seen to be pretty good, so I’d say that which one you start with really just comes down to personal taste.
The Build Series
Is just kind of doing its own thing. The Build series is basically Buy Our Toys: the series. It’s got a far lighter tone, and I’ve had cause to compare it to pokemon prior. It’s also chock full of references and in-jokes to the other series.
Build Fighters and Build Fighters Try are the ones I’d recommend - they’ve got actual stakes and the fight scenes are really good.
Build Divers and Build Divers Re:rise I can’t recommend - I just find Build Divers aggressively boring. Build Divers Re:Rise is just okay - neither standout good or particularly bad. Its main flaw is that it’s a sequel to Build Divers.
The OVA’s are pretty much bad across the board - I’d particularly recommend avoiding Gundam Build Metaverse.
Universal Century
Universal Century is the big main timeline of Gundam, and is the timeline the original Mobile Suit Gundam from 1979 takes place in. There’s a tendency among certain fans to place UC as the one-above-all of Gundam, but I wouldn’t really go that far. It’s all pretty good, but I wouldnt really say one timeline is better than another (save personal preference, anyway).
Because UC is so big, it can be subdivided a couple times. The primary division is “Mainline” UC versus everything else. Basically there’s four-five shows in Universal Century from which everything else flows. As long as you know roughly what happens in these shows, then you can watch basically anything else in UC and have a good idea of what’s going on. These are (in order):
Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) - sometimes called Mobile Suit Gundam 0079.
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (1985)
Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ (1986)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack (1988)
With Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn (2010) as a nominal fifth (honestly I feel like you could argue either way).
The rest of the shows are:
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket (1989 Three-Episode OVA)
Mobile Suit Gundam F91 (1991 Movie)
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory (1991 Thirteen-episode OVA)
Mobile Suit Victory Gundam (1993)
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team (1999 Twelve-episode OVA)
G-Saviour (2000 Live Action Movie) - nobody ever talks about or acknowledges this one, it’s just here for completionism.
Mobile Suit Gundam MS Igloo (2004-2009 Three OVA’s with three Episodes each)
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin (2015 Six-Episode OVA, adapted from the Manga of the same name)
Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt (2015 Eight-Episode Series, adapted from the Manga of the same name)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Twilight Axis (2017 episode, adapted from a light novel of the same name. Later rereleased as Gundam Twilight Axis Red Trace, with additional footage)
Mobile Suit Gundam Narrative (2018 sequel movie to Gundam Unicorn)
Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway (2021 ongoing movie series, very much adapted from the novel Hathaway’s Flash)
Most of the other series relate to events in the aforementioned “mainline” shows in some way, but a lot of the sidestories set during the One Year War require very little introduction (Thunderbolt, 0080 and 08th MS Team). Similarly, works set in “Late UC” (F91 and Victory Gundam) carry on from the other series thematically but don’t have any plot connections, so they can all be watched without any background knowledge of the rest of the Universal Century.
Compilation Movies
Just a quick note here - many of the Gundam series have compilation movies, where either a whole series or part of one are compressed down into a movie. While each movie compares differently, they usually boil down to this: Compilation Movies usually have worse pacing, but really nice animation.
One of the great things about Gundam is that different shows offer variations on themes, so seeing how different characters react to similar situations, or how different settings change their approaches can make it incredibly rewarding.
I haven’t seen enough of SD Gundam to make any sort of recommendations there, and Manga is something I might touch on another day.
EDIT: Oh hey also: You can watch a good chunk of these on YouTube, for free, officially. The Official Gundam.Info YouTube channel rotates the series shown on its channel periodically. I think it’s got F91 and SEED on there currently? But it’s had Wing, 00 and Witch From Mercury before. Also all of the Build Fighters series are there.
So yeah, that’s a thing.

Halliwell Manor Exterior
Around March of 2021, I embarked on an exciting journey: recreating the Halliwell Manor, a project both ambitious and deeply personal.
To begin, I chose a smaller lot (40x30) to draft the rough layout of the house. This early version allowed me to focus on fine-tuning key details and striking a balance between the house’s proportions and achieving screen accuracy.
Once I was satisfied with the results of the initial build, I decided to move the house to its current, larger 64x64 lot. This allowed me to expand the surrounding environment, working on the layout of the terrain, the main garden, the kitchen garden, and other exterior elements that would enhance the property's character.
Designing the terrain and landscaping was a new challenge in itself. I aimed to craft an exterior that not only complimented the manor's charm but also aligned with its late Victorian Stick-style architecture, which features light Japanese influences.
To achieve this, I delved into researching garden layouts from the Late Victorian era. This study offered valuable insights into the use of pathways, fountains, sculptures, plants, flowers, and various outdoor features that would make the manor feel both believable and historically authentic. For reference I used the following texts: A. J. Downing - Cottage Residences (1856) Scott T. Hanson - Restoring Your Historic House (2019) a fundamental book on historical restoration and preservation. Virginia Savage McAlester - A field Guide to American Houses (2014) Frank J. Scott - Victorian Gardens (1870) Frank J. Scott - The Art of Beautifying Suburban Home Grounds (1881)
For now, I wanted to share this update about the exterior of the manor. A follow-up post focused on the interior will come soon—a part of the project I’ve never shared publicly before. I hope you enjoy these glimpses into this ongoing journey!

briar in frills rambles…! ୨ৎ

a guide to misako aoki for newer lolitas! ദ്ദി(。•̀ ,<)~✩‧₊
♡ ‧₊˚ ⋅ ౨ৎ ‧₊ .ᐟ
if you're newer to lolita fashion, especially sweet, you might be wondering who this beautiful, cherubic model is that graces coordinates from your favorite brands such as angelic pretty, baby the stars shine bright, etc.. or maybe you've even heard of the brand "m x petit"? not to wonder any further as this cutie is legendary lolita icon: misako aoki, also known in japan as aoki misako. ✨

misako has long since graced the lolita scene with her presence, specializing in her style of choice: sweet lolita 🍬, while also adorning other styles as can be seen via her social media page / through magazine shoots she still does present day. (,,>ヮ<,,)!
her introduction into lolita fashion is nothing short of special, whimsical, and only something someone could dream of..! it went a little like this... ( ⸝⸝´꒳`⸝⸝) it was 1998 when misako was scouted at the age of 15 to wear lolita fashion. she'd already been in the industry at such a young age, modeling for a popular magazine of the time when she was discovered. so, when this opportunity came it must've been nothing new to her (minus the lolita fashion she was given the opportunity to wear). while she said at first she was not a fan of the fashion, modeling in it made her confidence and love for it grow. thankfully she grew to love it, because she'd have no idea how much of a pioneer she'd come to be in the future of lolita fashion.
her successes in lolita fashion were not just in photoshoots and becoming a well-known nationwide cutie, it was also recognized by the government of japan! ( ∩´͈ ᐜ `͈∩) in 2009 misako was appointed by the japanese foreign ministry to be the ambassador of kawaii - a title which she was a little reluctant to use at the time, but quickly grew fond of when it came to recognizing what her role entailed as a national ambassador. for example, her duties consisted of her traveling the world to spread the word of all things cute and lolita~! she was even a guest at a large scale convention in america known as anime expo..! (づ> v <)づ♡

misako at foreign expos (left: anime expo, 2012 + right: japan exo, 2014)
in 2013 misako was appointed head of the japan lolita association, founded by omura beauty fashion college, and shortly after published her own book in 2014 detailing her experience as a legendary lifestyle lolita. meanwhile, all of these years of lolita and you'd expect her to be tired from carving out her own history, right? no! misako managed at some point continue pursing higher education and successfully in the end managed to become a successful nurse alongside her career as a lolita model and cultural icon. (´▽`)
she's truly nothing short of amazing and i admire her so much. she is my biggest idol as a lolita, as she still presently wears it at 41 after all this time and has no intention of stopping ever it seems! ٩(ˊᗜˋ*)و i hope to be just like her in the future, as she really did help cement such a wonderful fashion at a time where it was most opposed, alongside many others of the time.
fun things to note:
in 2014 misako collaborated with baby, the stars shine bright to release a pullip doll of herself which comes with her own btssb coord and a nurse's uniform to represent misako's other profession as a nurse. ᕙ( •̀ ᗜ •́ )ᕗ

♡ ‧₊˚ ⋅ ౨ৎ ‧₊ .ᐟ
afterword: thank you for reading! i really enjoyed writing this, although most of the information came from already available sources. i tried my best to keep everything in my own wording, but it is nice to format things onto my blog for those who may not have the energy to do some digging on their own! i hope you enjoyed nonetheless, cuties! ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝ꕤ*.゚
