I should be doing homework but instead...
(idek if this is popular anymore, I just need motivation tbh)
1 note and I'll go take a shower
25 notes and I'll get off Tumblr and finish my homework.
50 notes and I'll put away my laundry
100 notes and I'll fix my sleep schedule
150 notes and I'll start eating breakfast before school for the rest of the school year
200 notes and I'll tell my parents what I want for my birthday
250 notes and I'll start handing out my resume/applying to jobs [in progress]
300 notes and I'll start running 1 mile every week
350 notes and I'll finish/publish a wip [trans Stephen fic, the public has determined]
400 notes and I'll finish the next chapter of BtSA [finished, being beta-ed before posting]
450 notes and I'll spend 10 minutes a day working on my novel (;-;)
500 notes and I answer my emails
550 notes and I get a pixie cut (I've been wanting a shorter cut for months) [GETTING IT CUT ON WEDNESDAY]
600 notes and I'll fix my Doctor Strange cosplay (and post pictures) [somewhat fixed-- WIP stage lol]
(1000 notes and I'll come out as genderfluid to my therapist, despite how terrifying it is)
(1500 notes and I'll come out to my favorite teacher OR my ally YW leader)
(if, for some reason, and probably with divine intervention, we hit 20,000 notes..... I may consider coming out to my parents.)

having adhd makes me want to scream because i am so full of ideas but they're ALL DIFFERENT IDEAS!!!! do you understand how hard it is being the adhd king that i am, the embodiment of jack of all trades master of none, do you understand-- I am suffering at the hands of this bastard known as mySELF. I fucking hate it here. If time could slow down a little and give me some breathing room? I'd be golden.

Notice in the post below that the only named task that the OP struggled with is homework?
Now, people diagnosed with ADHD or similar disorders often do struggle with tasks that we might actually want to do, but almost always, the diagnosis is linked in everyone's mind to an inability to do homework.
But homework is fucking bullshit.
I really think it's absurd to ignore that fact when talking about how you complete tasks.
"Gosh, my kid seems to have a lot of trouble focusing on dull make-work which I force him to do for two hours every single day, why could this be?"
I spent literally as little time in school as I could and still graduate. As in, by my junior or senior year the principal sat me down and said, "If you skip anymore school we aren't going to be able to graduate you from High School."
And yet... When I bothered to go, I got good grades. I did generally quite well on tests and did eventually graduate. I'm quite proud of that as an act of self-mastery but it does raise the question:
Why was so much energy spent on trying to get me to go to school for all that time when I was demonstrably able to get the benefits with literal years less work than they wanted me to put in?
Why was so much time spent trying to devote those years to schoolwork when it simply wasn't necessary for me to learn?
Homework is a microcosm of that whole question. I always wanted to know,
"So, if I can skip 60% of the homework and still get an "A" on the test, why do you try to force me to do it?"
And to this day I have never gotten a good answer.
So: I saw no value in most of my homework and that hasn't changed to this day.
So, here's a pop quiz for the people wondering why their kids with diagnoses don't do their homework no matter what planning and techniques adults supply them with:
What would your kid have to do to spend less of their valuable time on homework?
"Well, if they just knuckled down and got it done..."
BZZT! WRONG! You get a "D-" on this test and I really hope you apply yourself more to the next one, you have so much potential...
If they "forget about it" then they have to do even less.
Now, of course that means that your kid is in a state of constant stress from avoidance. They are thinking, "Man, I'm going to get in so much trouble for not doing this, but I just can't seem to force myself to do it, and anyway I don't fucking want to."
You think that they'd be better off spending two stressful hours on their homework and then being able to relax the rest of the time. They feel like they'll be happier not doing it at all and feeling a vague undercurrent of stress as they go about their leisure time.
What's the third option if they want to spend less time on homework?
Oh, nothing? Is it nothing whatsoever until they graduate from school?
This is infuriatingly counter-productive. We spend literal years teaching ADHD kids that avoidance and procrastination are the only ways to exert control over their lives in the face of unpleasant situations imposed from outside.
Now, in point of fact this is absolutely not the case for adult life, which offers a plethora of ways to reduce pointless make-work imposed on you by outside authorities and, in any case, rarely bothers to impose two hours per day of unpaid, unrewarding make-work on people anyway.
How much of the difficulty ADHD people have with cleaning the toilet or whatever is because psychologically, they still think of it as homework? Cleaning the toilet is not homework; it rewards you with a clean toilet at the end and it's entirely possible to defer it, or hire someone else to do it, or find shortcuts. But if the major psychological task of your childhood is homework, maybe it might take quite a long time to think that there could even be anything aside from homework?

ADHD TIP!!!!!! hw :,)
1. make timelapses on your phone of u doing your work. this helps so much i cant even BEGIN to explain. it feels like im a little youtube with my life together, and i love the idea/aesthetic of people having video diaries so. it also helps me stay on task because ik that id hate to rewatch my videos and see that i was super unproductive, so it’s almost like performance anxiety but in a good way and it’s satisfying to see !! if u want i will post some of them
2. SEPERATE YOUR BROWSERS! i use opera for my fun stuff (it’s basically just google marketed “for gamers” and it kinda slaps ngl) and ive got a rule that when im on chrome, im not allowed to use any of my time-sucking things (pinterest, tumblr, quora).’
3. when writing an essay, change the font and line spacing consistently. helps my brain by adding variety and avoiding the thing where u gotta reread the sentence 8 times only to forget it and read it again only to forget it and rea
4. when you have a writing assignment (can u tell im doing my english final rn) START IT ON PAPER. u gotta sit down with your notebook and the intent to write the draft of the essay on paper. ive found that pretty quickly, my hyperfocus will kick in and my brain will catch the drift of what we’re doing, which ends up prompting me to switch over to my computer.  ive got so many pages in my book rn that are just the first paragraph of a paper that end  abruptly as i get into the flow of things
5. when typing, wear fingerless gloves. it helps man, trust me. it feels like all of my typing and writing energy is stored in my hands and the fingerless gloves kinda contain that energy. does that make sense. do you guys get that. i feel like u get it
6. templates. something i struggle with is not really knowing how or where to start things, which templates have seemed to help with. for example if im writing a biography about someone, ill google biography templates and there will be an outline that works as the perfect guide. this tip is pretty universal and can benefit everyone, but it took me a while to figure out pls. outline = good
7. work in the dark/at night- though im sure a lot of us do this regardless, working in a situation that imitates/is nighttime is genuinely helpful for us. for me, working at night feels like a choice that i made on my own and without instruction from superiors, which is motivating for some reason. people with adhd (i think this might apply to other forms of nuerodiversity but im only certain about adhd) have circadian rhythms that naturally skew later, so working later instead of in the daytime might be the most productive time for u.
also, i get that it’s good to avoid doing work in bed because associating a place of comfort with an activity of strain is probably Not the best, but sometimes, working in my bed is just what works best for me. it’s important to know yourself and trust what you need!!

i wish i could post insightful things about fantasy high: junior year but i am too busy being thrust into intense flashbacks of my own high school years and dealing with the anxiety that produces
like kudos to dimension 20 for accurately portraying how junior year of high school in the usa fucks a person up while simultaneously building a truly fantastic and gripping plot
but also i am literally just. sitting here. and did not ask to be mentally and emotionally devastated in this particular way

[MASTERPOST]
I can't find it anymore, but this is a prompt fill! I think (and I'm in the bad memory gang, so don't be too sure) it was about doing schoolwork / learning stuff and it might have been about baby!ciri? But anyways! Ciri tried and tried and still failed her test. Jaskier has all the tipps and tricks because he did the homework with Lambert from ages 7-12.

some study/homework tips for y'all :)
keep a clock in front of you. to keep track of time. I like to use an app on my phone so that I'm not tempted to scroll on tumblr instead of studying. it's also for aesthetic purposes. here's the one I use.
do the most difficult projects first. this might seem like a daunting task, but getting the hardest things out of the way will clear up your mind for the rest of your work. unless of course something else is more time sensitive, then do those things first.
take purposeful breaks. when you're studying or working on homework, it can be easy to want to do something more enjoyable; but doing those things can often lead our minds astray. when you take a break, try to do something healthy (i.e. read a chapter of a book, take a walk, make a cup of tea, etc.) of course, it's ok to take a few minutes to scroll on your phone, but try not to let it take up the majority of your break
some ADHD/ADD specific study tips:
motivate your brain. before I start working on a big project or a lot of studying, I get a bag of skittles/m&m's/some small candy or treat. whenever I finish a small task (reading one page, answering three questions, finishing one problem) I eat one piece of candy >don't ask me for logic behind this one because I have no clue but it works I promise<
use a calendar or study tracker journal to stay on schedule. especially with ADHD, it can be really easy to procrastinate. using a calendar or journal helps you to stay focused on your goals and organize your study time.
some depression specific tips:
(disclaimer: depression is a serious mental illness that effects so many other people out there. if you're struggling and need help or just someone to talk to, please feel free to message me)
don't set timers. I know in the first paragraph I talked about using a clock, but setting timers makes me feel like the tasks I have to complete are insurmountable and I'll never finish them. instead I try to chunk my studying/homework by category; it makes the whole thing so much more bearable.
reward yourself. try to come up with some good thing to motivate yourself; but set it for after you finish. [when I get done with my math assignments, I'll make tea. when I finish studying, I'll go to the bookstore.]
get out of bed. even if it's not for studying, even if it's just for depression. go get a whole glass of water and drink it. go put on new clothes and drive to McDonald's. please just take care of yourselves <3
my most valuable tip:
you know what motivates you; use that as a tool. for me, it’s aesthetic*. I like organized laptop desktops and put-together outfits and beautiful paintings (probably why I spend so much time on studyblr). so some things that motivate me are organizing my desk before I work, or changing my laptop wallpaper to my favorite painting.
no matter how you study, you are all doing great my gals and pals. keep up the hard work and go drink water (that was a threat).

You know what? I would infodump to Ari.
If she's cool with it.
i mean, she's cool with it... ..... ..but depending on what it's about, her mood, if she got a good night's sleep and the placement of the planets, there's a chance she'll Space Out
feel free to snap your fingers if that happens 🙄
