[ A character workshop on yanderes ]
These concepts also apply to regular male romantic leads
I watched ContraPoint’s video essay on Twilight and she brings up some really great points on female power fantasy via male leads.
Inspired by this, here are some character questions I often ask myself when building personalities and plot tension.
People typically become the person they needed when they were a child. What kind of person is your character?
eg. A character from a dysfunctional family has rigid boundaries and a peaceful household.
When following the male POV, what power fantasies does it provide the reader?
eg. Strength, sadism, social power, etc
Outside of romantic tension, what personality traits would create friction between the MMC and FMC?
eg. Rigid boundaries and well-protected peace creates a highly structured life. This might seem constricting and unfair to a love interest.

THE SIMILIRATIES OF THIS TWO
It's all over to my fyp
"Do/If you know me, Who will I choose?"
GUN V/S JAMES LEE
In the back of my head, why would I choose if I can take them (and give them head)
Tumblr media
BUT HONESTLY HERE'S THE DEAL
Re-rreading a specific chapter where Gun and James Lee have their own screen time makes me notice that they have a lot of similarities.
1. They are both murderers.
Gun entirely eliminates the Magami family.
While James Lee eliminated no other than Garpyong Kim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. They both take body parts.
James Lee, of course, to all first-generation Kings except Jinchang (it's important information about Jichang).
And for Gun, they are the heads of the crews (I have this speculation that Gun is starting to do that due to the information and influence of Jame Lee).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. They didn't perish someone who was worthless in their eyes.
Remember Jichang, the King of Chungcheong. He is the only one who has complete body parts.
Because of this....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For Gun, he let Magami live due to the reason of…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, guys, you know what I mean. They will never take anything from you if you are worthless and didn't give it all. (Don't believe in yourself/capabilities)
4. Many people despise them and want to take vengeance.
I don't need an explanation for this. Kings and Crews

𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐌𝐄! 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘; 𝐑𝐈𝐑𝐈
the winter pillar...just who exactly is that hashira?
akari exudes an air of nonchalance, drowsiness, and aloofness. in turn, likely intriguing those around her with her detached demeanor.
the intricacy and enigma of akari's relationships are striking. although she may appear transparent in her words, her true emotions remain elusive as she keeps them carefully concealed. on numerous occasions, she deliberately assumes the role of a reliable and trustworthy individual, primarily to ensure the success of missions. however⎯ it becomes evident that her amiable and light-hearted disposition is nothing short of a façade as soon as the demons whereabouts and plans were all figured out by her.
even still, her analytical approach to various situations enables her to maintain composure and refrain from losing her temper, despite occasional absent-mindedness.
at first glance, akari gives the impression of being impassive, indifferent, apathetic, sarcastic, and blunt. yet ⎯ beneath her seemingly cold and emotionally distant exterior⎯ lies a deep-rooted concern for the well-being of those close to her.
while she may be deemed unpredictable and lackadaisical by most⎯ in truth, she is genuinely laid-back, calm, easygoing, and even carefree.
beyond her enigmatic nature, akari possesses a keen intellect and shrewdness. she exhibits remarkable analytical and observational skills, enabling her to discern through the masks that people wear, akin to shinobu. furthermore, she unveils hidden truths about her peers, sometimes even unbeknownst to them.
bonus! how did she fare during ds. ep. against the corps rules?
during nezuko's trial, akari remains steadfast in her neutrality, unwaveringly adhering to oyakata-sama's wishes. simply because...
surprisingly, she harbors less animosity towards demons compared to some of her fellow hashira, displaying a willingness to spare non-human-eating demons. her approach to dealing with demons stems from a pragmatic standpoint, as she strives to render impartial judgments, unswayed by the influence of hatred; a notion stemming from her past.

Julian personality styles brainrot. . .
so i was taking personality tests on behalf of julian devorak, as one does, and i thought this was actually kind of interesting.
disclaimer: while i believe this is pretty true to julian as a character, it's probably at least a little biased because i did answer based on how -> I <- see him, so it might not align with your opinion.
**also, any terms used in this are NOT talking about or diagnosing any disorder, just used as ways to describe a personality. this is a for fun test and isn't meant to be taken very seriously. (i.e., scoring "histrionic" does NOT mean this is a representation of hpd). ok? ok.
Tumblr media
the results i got (or the results that Julian got) were "Multiple Personality Styles," which basically means i either pressed "agree" too much or he has more than one equally prominent personality style. tied for first, as you can see in the image, are "histrionic" and "depressive". the idea that these two personality styles are expressed equally in julian is lowk funny to me, but also makes perfect sense. those two go hand in hand when it comes to his personality.
histrionic is defined as "overly theatrical or melodramatic in character or style"
depressive personality is related to traits that include (but are not limited to) nonassertiveness, gloominess, self-criticism, low self-esteem, guilt, and anxiety. depressive and histrionic seem to contradict a bit, but julian is a PTSD-ridden, depressed, flamboyant bisexual theater kid who loves people. that's a lot. and if anyone would have two strong personality styles concurrently, it's him.
his next highest is "masochistic" which is, well. yeah.
3rd place is hypomanic, hypomania being considered a milder version of mania (elevated mood or energy, overactivity, etc). this makes sense once again, since we know he can be restless and energetic, has consistent difficulty with sleep, and even worked so hard during the plague that he apparently didn't even notice his apprentice (potentially his love interest, depending on your interpretation), getting sick.
im not going to discuss everything on here, but i do want to define the 0% ones. Sadistic means hurting others and enjoying it, Narcissistic is inflated sense of pride (and a sensitive ego), Negativistic is opposing what other people say and do, and Schizoid is characterized with aloofness and being solitary. for all of these, - for the reason that julian is very sociable, selfless, and doesn't want to hurt a fly - 0% is the right level in my eyes.
so long story short. i just wanted to share these silly personality test results. it makes me understand why valdemar wanted to dissect julian's brain so much (though i will never support that). this was kind of a mess but really im just brainrotting and i don't post that often so 😭
here's the link for the quiz if you want to take it for yourself or even try to see if your Julian results match with mine !

Intro to the Character Class System
Welcome to the Character Classification System! This is a personality system used to categorize patterns of behavior within characters across all forms of media. This system is broken down into six colors, which each character will possess three of. These colors are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Indigo.
The Character Classification system proposes the belief that the differences in the values that a character prioritizes leads to diverging perspectives and subsequent behavioral patterns. In other words, the things we care about are determined by the people we are and the way we interact with others. These being: Nature, Experience, Direction, Structure, Sentiment, and Connection. Everyone wants all six, but it is the priority of importance in the eyes of the character that determines their class.
There are twenty classes in total. These are:
The Vagabond
The Warrior
The Sage
The Artist
The Tactician
The Warden
The Inventor
The Captain
The Dancer
The Merchant
The Athlete
The Judge
The Bard
The Knight
The Courier
The Jester
The Maestro
The Scholar
The Priest
The Lover
When presented with a situation, the character will most likely respond in accordance with their relevant colors. This response varies between the colors present of each individual classification, but presents itself as a natural baseline that a character will tend to rely on.
Now the real question: how is this helpful? Beyond identifying patterns of behavior in pre-existing characters, this system can be used as a template for new storytellers to create balanced and internally consistent characters from.

Takeshi’s personality is so hard for me to understand and it keeps me up at night, trying to figure out how to write him as a character
He’s sarcastic most of the time, emotionless around most, gentle with certain people like Lizzie and even Alice, emotional with Quell, and all of these with Rei and even Ortega sometimes??
I actually want to pull my hair out because I can’t figure out how to write him interacting with people because I actually have no clue
I have a issue with making characters too emotional and I think I’m doing this w Kovacs too and it stresses me out

An random note on perfectionism.
Not that I've seen any recent examples, but I was thinking about this and wanted to share.
In most stories, when characters are perfectionist, it's always written in a way like the end of their world is not finishing a project or work with everything perfectly done so they have to settle for less. But, there's another form I barely see people write about.
Perfectionism can be your inability to finish anything if it's not perfect.
Take me for example.
I've been turned into a perfectionist from several things, but most importantly, from the lack of support on anything I ever did.
Then, when I got older, that turned into me never finishing anything because I assumed it wouldn't work anyways.
Now as a fully grown adult, I will actually not do something if I feel it isn't going to be perfectly the way I want it to. As if having things done perfectly is the guage for people caring about something.
Now, I've become a slacker.
So, next time you write a perfectionist, you can write a slacker perfectionist who will not do any work because they know they can't get it perfect. That is also valid.
