Hello!! I decided to start a Tumblr Blog up to show my progress in developing my various games and projects, the current one is called Weepinghelm and is a point and click dark fantasy game I'm building in Ren'py! This is a still of the main antagonist Rott, I love him dearly and I hope you all can too! The first test demos should be releasing on itch around about May time so if you're interested pop a follow and I'll try and keep you as posted as I can! I aim for this to be a daily thing though I'm never certain if I can commit but I'll try my best!

I kinda just realized... I'm a gamedev. If any budding gamedev's or anyone curious about something gamedev related have questions, please feel free to ask.
This is one thing I actually feel competent enough to answer 🫠

rpg games? that like.. stay the same?
I was ranting to a mutual about this but like it would be really nice to have modern access to games that aren't subject to endless meddling. I'm not talking about bug fixes or QoL updates or added features. What I'm talking about is the endless rebalancing, nerfing, and blocking of emergent gameplay styles discovered by the player base that ultimately punishes players for enthusiasm, persistence, curiosity, and creativity. Something is discovered by the players, it's surprisingly effective, or rewardingly complex? New gameplay loops emerge? Yeah not for long. This is especially true of subscription MMOs, with the roughly 2-4w constant churn and cycle of having to grind for or practice to be able to pull off the endless new things that are significantly more effective than whatever was strong/fun/viable just last month. It burned me out of GW2. It burned me out of ESO. It burned me out of FFXIV. And others I won't get into. It kinda killed my interest in idk probably 10-20+ other popular single player/non-MMO games for me. One of my favorite games of all time... if I want to play it with the new content? I can just go to hell because they replaced the entire levelling/build system years ago in the name of progress. I happened to quite like it as it was. So I can either replay the PS2 version AND then play the new version, but I'll never get to play the new content with the old system. You have to farm or grind to get a chance to experience these parts of games before they're removed or their appeal is forcibly stripped from the software you paid for. Something complex will be simplified. Something strong will be made mediocre. Something efficient will be made tedious. Something will be outright removed and replaced several times. And so on. This is without even going into what effect this has on immersion. So then we have to what, emulate? Pirate? Play on unofficial servers without guarantee of any save continuity? Mod the game? Or if somehow available, play older, notably buggier and less functional versions of the game, with crashes and save corrupting issues that were resolved years ago? I don't have time for FOMO grind and crunch anymore. It's supposed to be fun. We're supposed to be playing. But half the time we're starting new games with the knowledge we'll never get to experience many of the things that got the player base excited. Realistically it's not as though development companies are going to start having multiple simultaneous dev streams, for just fixes, and then gameplay alterations+fixes together. It's not realistic. But I'm sick of this no fun allowed situation. And it's not like we really get to own copies of games anymore either. We can play immutable games on pre-owned consoles, or pirate/emulate, or mod, or we can just suck it up. And it makes me sad.

The constant rolling disaster that is Overwatch's game development aside, what really perplexes me about how Blizzard is handling the broader franchise is their continual insistence that a canon narrative exists in spite of their equally continual refusal to tell anyone what it is.
Like, okay, the events of the games aren't canon. Fair enough: the games are multiplayer-only, and you can't account for player actions.
Oh, and the animated short films aren't canon either – they're properly understood as in-universe propaganda, not depictions of actual events. That's a little high concept for you guys, but fine.
But surely the comics are canon, right? Well, no; some of the comics (we're not telling you which ones) were canon at one point, but the writing team has decided to go in a different direction.
My dudes, what is left? The weird Source Filmmaker porn? Is that canon? Well, apparently it's at least as canon as anything else!

I am a solo indie dev trying to overcome my anxiety and actually let people know my game exists. It is a cute physics based game where you are the level.
I love making this game with passion and I am so excited to share it with the world, but somehow I need to let the world know. Unfortunately the way steam works is the more wishlists the more visibility, so if you are interested it is super appreciated :)
Wishlist on steam or visit the website to find out more mightymarbles.com

Character asks!
These are more focused on the background stuff rather than the usual "what would the character do in XY situation" kinds of asks. I've been looking for something like this for quite a while and in the end decided to make my own. Feel free to use, go wild, enjoy
What was the original thought that led to the creation of this character?
How long was the process before the character reached its final version? (or a version that would be clearly recognizable as the character?)
What was the first thing you decided on, the character's name, appearance, personality or their role in the story?
And reverse, which one of the four things did you struggle with the most?
How did you choose their name and why? Was it simply based on vibes or is there any specific meaning behind the name? Are the reasons behind their name different in- and out of universe?
What was the thought process behind their appearance? Did you go mostly for the aesthetic or are there other reasons they look the way they do?
What is an aspect of their appearance that you like the most?
What is the origin of their personality? And let's be honest - how much of it is projecting?
How big is their role in the story? Do they make a frequent appearance or are they a character with little "screentime" but big influence? Or are they just a favourite background guy?
What is their main character arc in the story? Where do they start and how do they develop? Do they get a happy ending or is their story a tragic one?
Is there any existing character from other media that your character resembles? Was the resemblance intentional or was it a coincidence?
Do you have a playlist for the character? What songs do you associate with them and why?
Do you have a voice claim for the character? What do you imagine the character sounds like?
Do you have any quotes tied to the character, either from the story itself or from another source that fit them?
Have you ever made a moodboard for them?
Is there any memes or running jokes associated with the character, both in- and out of universe?
Are there any motifs or symbols associated with the character? How are they represented, in their design, personality or in some other way?
Does the character have other characters connected to them? Do you have a family tree and "offscreen" connections made up for them or do they exist in a vacuum purely for the purpose of the story?
What is your general favourite thing about the character? What is your least favourite?
Bonus question: share any additional thoughts, art, favourite scenes, anything you've been waiting for a chance to ramble about

I wish there were more games where polyamory was an option and it’s not treated like it’s cheating or the butt of a joke.
I wish there were more games where you can be in relationships without having to be romantic with your partner
I wish there were more games where explicitly asexual and aromantic relationships were possible
