It’s always struck me as weird that NPMD ends with homecoming and not prom, because as a non-American, isn’t prom the quintessential American high school end trope thing??
Because of this I looked up what the actual difference is and holy shit homecoming takes place at the end of the first semester of the school year????? (Correction: turns out it’s actually around September/October which is roughly the end of the FIRST TERM)
So you’re telling me that not only do Steph, Grace and Pete have to process their trauma but also deal with SCHOOL????? FOR ANOTHER HALF A YEAR??????? AS HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS?????

i would love to hear your companion rankings!
Okie dokey, I'm just gonna stick to Tens companions here just so I don't write a full dissertation (this is still going to be hella long).
So we have Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith, Martha Jones, Jack Harkness, Donna Noble and finally Wilfred Mott. So let's get to it;
Last Place: Rose Tyler. Now here me out, as a child I ADORED Rose. She could do no wrong in my eyes. I wanted to grow up to be her, and was absolutely devastated when she was trapped in Pete's world. HOWEVER now as a 28 year old, out of all of Ten's companions she is my least favourite. Why? Her possession over the Doctor just really rubs me the wrong way. Rose when she's with Nine is great (minus how she acts with Mickey in Boom Town) but as soon as the Doctor got 'hot' and she realised she was in love with him, suddenly he is hers and hers alone, and damn any other woman who even breathes in the Doctor's direction. And my justification for saying that she got possessive only after the Doctor got 'hot' is her reaction to his possible regeneration in season 4. Yelling "You can't!" to someone who is dying and therefore needs to regenerate to survive is a bit ew for me. Then there's the little things like her wanting to get her own way and knowing she can get away with it because she's Rose (S2 Ep5-6), her being mean to Sarah-Jane, violently yelling and shaking a possessed victim of abuse (Fear Her) ect. Her fashion still bangs though imo. I have her New Earth outfit, tooth and claw outfit and Season 4 outfit.
5th Place: Jack Harkness. Controversial opinion I know. I just don't vibe with Jack after season 1, I'm sorry. And in Season 3 he just doesn't really have a purpose after Utopia (unless I'm forgetting something important). I like the set up of him being pissed the Doctor ran away from him, but I don't feel like the pay off was as strong as it could have been. And in the Season 4 finale, I honestly forgot he was in that until just now, I remember everyone else, hell I remember Ianto and Gwen but Jack...Finding out he's the Face of Boe is great though, and in my opinion his character should have been retired then.
4th Place: Mickey Smith. WHAAT! Yeah I'm surprised too. Mickey probably has one of the best boyfriend to hero arcs out there (Rory wins that category though). Ten's Mickey is a friend, and less the butt of the joke. I love his progression in School Reunion, and when he finally gets the courage to ask to join the TARDIS crew. Surprisingly I don't mind his gloating towards Rose's jealousy, he's spent two seasons watching someone who is supposed to love him fawn after this alien and finally she is a little humbled, I dunno, I just don't take it as egregiously as others. Then his character finally becomes his own person in age of steel and he chooses to stay behind to help a world that doesn't have a Doctor but needs heroes. And once again in season 4 he makes the best decision for him to leave Rose and continue his own life after he sees the writing on the wall, and then he finds true partnership when he marries Martha.
3rd Place: Martha Jones. I personally want to apologise for every butt hurt response twelve year old me made when they revealed that Martha was Rose's successor. I was fully on the THEREISONLYONECOMPANIONANDITISROSSSEEEETRULUV4EVA!!!!!!! train at the time, but like with my opinion on Rose, the benefit of adulthood makes me see Martha completely different, and I love Martha Jones. She deserved the whole damn world, and still does. Martha is the friend I wish I had, her journey from wide eyed medical student to hardened soldier is beautifully devastating. All she wanted to do was help people, and in the end she saved the entire fricking world all on her own, with nothing but her determination, faith and words. Without Martha there would be no magical tinkerbell Doctor in the series 3 finale. Not to mention she single headedly supported the Doctor TWICE when they were trapped in the 1960's and 1910's respectively. I hate having to see Martha trapped with John Smith and the racist assholes of Human Nature and Family of Blood, but once again it just shows how strong and loving she is. Martha could have stayed in the TARDIS, she could have told the Doctor to get his own bloody job in Blink but she didn't, she chose to help him, and she will always choose to help those who need her (eg the Fish alien in the doctors daughter). Plus who doesn't love a red leather jacket.
2nd Place: Wilfred Mott. I sobbed when Bernard Cribbins passed, because of just how much I loved Wilf growing up. I wanted him to be my grandad so much. Wilf is kind, funny, loving and so so understanding, Donna is the luckiest woman in the world to have Wilf. Plus he's just so damn resilient, the man stayed in London during Christmas just because he wasn't going to bow down to those darn aliens. His joy and excitement for all things space and alien is so infectious and wholesome. Wilf is such a spectacular emotional supporter not just for Donna but for the Doctor too. Wilf has seen some shit and refuses to let it get to him, even in the Christmas and new years specials. Wilf is the personification of why the Doctor keeps saving the Earth and humanity, because yeah there are fucking assholes out there, but the world is worth saving if there is just one person like Wilf. Truly I think the only way to stop the Time Lord Victorious (aka temper tantrum ten) in The End of Time was to juxtapose him with Wilf.
FIRST PLACE: Donna Noble. Season 4 is a tragedy in slow motion because of how GOOD Donna's character arc and progression is. As a character who started off as a one of comedy guest star and blossomed into the most important human in all of creation, I can't even begin to describe how much I love Donna. She is the Doctor's heart and conscious. We've seen who 10 is without her, and he's even worse when he loses her. When Rose is trapped he refuses to break open the walls between universes even when Rose jokingly says "So?" but after the Doctor loses Donna, his true best friend? Less than 3 adventures later and the laws of time and space are HIS TO COMMAND!!!! He fucks with a fixed point in time because he's just lost too much. Donna was the final piece of the Tenth Doctors 'humanity' if you will. All of that and she's just fucking funny and clever (despite what she might think). She is the companion I'd most want to travel with, and I can't wait to see her, Wilf and 10 again.

                                         5.The one of the fight
- Come on, Remus! It's no problem for you to spend Easter at home! - Peter offered just before they boarded the express for the holiday.
- I would be a nuisance, Rabbit. Your parents wouldn't know about my arrival, and I haven't even told my parents about the change of plans.
- But if you thought it best not to come back this year...
- I'll be fine, Pete. It's not even close to the moon, it's just a few days. - Remus calmed his friend, saying good-bye to the rest of the group, and as usual Sirius would spend the holiday with the Potters, after all he had been practically adopted by Euphemia.
That hadn't been a lie at all. His parents were really going through a fight at the moment-and he didn't want to go into an environment where they were at war-but the decision to stay in school had been his alone. He knew that Jean would stay in school, and since she didn't have any other friends he thought it was a good idea to stay and keep her company.
I mean, at least he had thought about it, since Jean didn't seem to be that interested in his company. She had unfortunately found another poor soul to disturb-or at least that was how Severe Snape liked to grumble about her company. Since the day the girl had helped him with his transfiguration work, time and again they had met and studied together in the library - not together, together, but in the sense of coexisting at the same table, with occasional exchanges of words where they would clear up a question or two with each other.
That was the most Snape could allow himself to do considering the amount of eyes around, after all, he was a sonserine and proud of it, but he also had to consider the presence of his housemates - not that his fellow diners would attack her just for asking a question, but they would make the Griffin girl's life a living hell if they wanted to (as hellish as Sirius Black calling her out daily) and he didn't want that for her, after all she was even tolerable. After all, Severe Prince Snape had acquired a mild sympathy for Jean Granger to the point that he wanted her to have peace during her years as a student - and of course even sporadically study with him.
"Only Griffin girl who has a bit of brain matter" - he had muttered one day, eliciting a low chuckle from her, as well as a small smile of his own.
Remus did not share the same hatred for Snape that Sirius and James had. To tell the truth, he was perhaps at the same level of dislike that Peter had for the sonserine, which was nil. He honestly had nothing against Snape, he just thought he was snotty, but this whole situation of comp-dividing Jean's attention was irritating Moony, at least that's what Remus was telling himself, that it was his wolf side that was really bothering him and not him per se, not completely, maybe a part of it?
Truth be told, since Remus had witnessed the whole Severo-Lillian situation (two years earlier) he felt duty-bound to spare Jean from going through any situation merely similar to the one starring the sonserine. She didn't deserve to be called names or anything like that! So, in Lupin's eyes, Snape was far from being someone to be trusted, especially considering the other friendships he maintained when he was away from the girl.
Thus, unconsciously, Remus had taken it upon himself to be the "knight in shining armor" for Jean, not that he needed to or much less that she would accept it if she knew what the boy was thinking, but in any case for him to protect her from the evil sonserines he needed to find her first. Come on, it was almost eleven o'clock in the morning on a Thursday, where could the witch be?
The common room? No.
Great Hall? No.
Astronomy tower? No.
Library? No.
Black lake? No.
Whomping Willow? Yes.
Yes!?
What the hell was Jean doing there? Was it really her? Forcing his eyes open, Remus saw a figure sitting in the line just before the range of the Whomping Willow, staring up at the tree with a lost expression on her face. Approaching without any care, Remus could not hold his curiosity as he sat down next to her.
- Why are you alone here?
- The castle is almost empty, I would be alone anywhere else.
- But why here?
- I woke up in a mood for fights, and since we don't have an active dueling club at school, I thought that watching the willow fight with the air would be a good substitute.
- Wouldn't that be hurting any tree protection rights? - Remus amused.
- I'm not the one hurting or attacking the tree, I'm just here as a spectator! - Hermione defended herself. - By the way, in all your time here, have you by any chance ever seen it treated by a gardener? - Hermione pondered, remembering when the Weasley's car had crashed into her in her second year.
Professor Snape had gone to a lot of trouble to get the bodywork back that night, along with Madame Hootch and Pomona Sproutch.
- I think only a couple of times... Did you know that she was almost killed once?
- Hit by a car? - She joked.
- What?
- I mean, I guess it takes an accident like that to almost kill a tree that fights with anyone who comes near it!
- Actually, it was just a very intense winter. He even kept a scarf wrapped around his trunk, out of respect.
Hermione bent her body to the side, leaning her head briefly on Remus' right shoulder, imagining the situation - but as she giggled from imagining the willow tree with a thermometer in its knot measuring its temperature, Remus froze. Wide-eyed, his breath caught in his throat. Was she really lying on his shoulder?!
Looking away, he could see that yes, she was. Should he move? Should he sigh? At least breathe again!
But with his breathing, came along Jean's scent, penetrating through his entire respiratory and cardiac system, making a....
"Yummy..." - Nosy Stupid as always allowed himself to pay attention to the conversation.
Oh my! He had stopped himself for a second before sticking his nose into the short hair of the girl next to him!
"Get a grip, SLOUTY" - Remus scolded the wolf, hearing a snort in response.
- Sorry. - Hermione realized where she was, pulling away immediately.
- No problem. - Remus replied, blushing.
- If you don't mind my asking, why did you stay here?
- Did you think I was going to leave you alone with that snotty guy? - Remus was amused, but when he saw Jean's closed expression, he realized that jokes didn't work on her. - Besides.... I didn't want to go home. My parents... They're fighting, and I didn't want to be in the middle of it all just when... I feel guilty about everything.
- Guilty, Lupin?
- I said, you can call me by my first name. - He gave a half smile.
- I like your last name, it's nice.
"Just the last name?" Moony took offense.
"With the scars you left me no one will ever think I'm handsome, you idiot."
"I a comma, you who did this to yourself trying to suppress me!"
- Caham - he huffed, focusing again on the conversation and not on his mental monologue with his other animal part - They fight a lot because of me, so I prefer not to be around, so as not to cause or feel pain.
- Nothing is your fault, Remus. - Hermione looked deep into his eyes, holding up her hands on impulse.
She hated the feeling of guilt she knew he always carried. He was a child, damn it! If there was one guilty party in that story, it was Greyback!
Remus just stared in shock at her joined hands. God, would she ever stop surprising him?! Hermione realized what she had done, but when she tried to pull her hands back, she felt him hold them tightly, preventing the movement. But Lupin had nothing to add to the conversation, he just wanted to feel the comforting touch in her hands some more, with the cool breeze hitting his face, bringing along with it Jean's scent and calming him in unthinkable ways.
He was letting someone else - and more specifically, a girl - touch him, and enjoying it.
* * *
- I didn't know your favorite chocolate, but I thought you might like this one. - Hermione passed the candy to Snape as if it were contraband when they bumped into each other in the hallway on Sunday.
- Chocolate with mint? - Severus looked at her strangely, stopping in his tracks to pay attention to her.
- Yeah, not sour, but weird enough to give you a reason to frown. - She joked, receiving a cold stare from him.
- Is this some kind of joke?
- It's not cursed, it's an Easter present, that's all!
Suspicious, Snape opened the package and broke off two pieces, handing one to her first, informing her that she would be his guinea pig. Rolling her eyes, Hermione put the candy in her mouth, making a face, being followed by him.
Who, instead of grimacing, smiled.
- It looks like I swallowed a tube of toothpaste!
- And you're happy about that?!
- It's a two-in-one chocolate, Granger! You eat it and brush your teeth in the process.
- Was that a joke?
- It was just a thank you, that's all. - He closed his expression again, but gave her the slightest smile before walking back towards the dungeon.
Just the fact that he could see she was running from those stupid Marauders and preferred to spend her time with him was a good softener for his ego.
And just as quickly as they had met, the two of them parted, each to their own corner. There were not supposed to be more than fifteen people in the school during that holiday, so that supervising the students became much easier - and gossip-worthy among the faculty, that is.
Minerva McGonagall stood at the end of the corridor, keeping an eye on her pupil. Not that she was curious, but she had already noticed that Mr. Lupin was no longer the only one the griffin girl interacted with, as now more recently Mr. Snape had become a constant in the girl's daily life. Of course Minerva as teacher and tutor was happy that little by little Jean was opening up to the reality she found herself and was making new friends, or perhaps more than friends. Was there something going on between Remus and Jean for their estrangement? The incorrigible romantic part of her wanted very much to believe so - even more so with it being a love triangle! Lupin and Snape would excuse her, but the thrill of a love story between quarrels and declarations had always attracted her, but since it wasn't her place to get involved, she could only observe Jean, and once in a while interfere, just like now.
- Jean, dear, are you all right? - Minerva intercepted her as she passed by.
- Yes, Professor. Is something wrong?
- Just checking.  As head teacher of Griffin, I can't go out on holidays, unless no one from my house is staying.
- But at Christmas some people stayed...
- That was a separate situation. Principal Dumbledore took over the supervision of our house and gave me a leave of absence. Anyway, is everything all right?
- Yes, yes. I didn't used to celebrate Easter so much before, so it's just... another Sunday. A Sunday with chocolate. - Hermione gave a half smile.
- If you need to talk, you know where my room is.
- But talk about what?
- Just about anything. - And with a wink, Minerva left.
Which meant nothing to Hermione, who thought her tutor had a nervous tic in her eyes.
____________
On holidays like this one, where only a small number of students remained at school, Dumbledore usually abolished the house system and unified everyone at a single table - and this Sunday dinner was no different. However, not everyone was comfortable with the situation, preferring to stay away from each other.
- Do you mind if I sit here? - Remus asked, already sitting next to Jean.
- Would it make any difference if I said no? - Jean asked with a smile.
- Not much. - He returned it with another, setting the alert for the gossips on duty. - I haven't seen you all day.
- I was out and about, nothing very special. Have you looked for me? Do you need anything? I thought we were only going to go over the lesson plan for the tutorial on Tuesday.
- Actually, there's not much to do on holidays around here. - He shrugged. - Sirius, James and Peter aren't here and I'm already ahead of schedule with all my assignments.
- So I'm only your third choice for company? I'm disappointed, Mr. Lupin. I thought we were friends. - You teased.
- I would say fourth, since I only looked for you now in the evening and not in the afternoon.
Neither of them had noticed when the flirting had begun, but if you were to bet, it was more of a flirting situation - just like Sirius with anyone, or James with Lily at the beginning of his romantic pursuit of the redhead.
- You've been reading all afternoon, haven't you? That's why you only remembered me now.
- Studying is quite different from reading. - He shrugged.
"I think you spend too much time with boys.
- By the way, since you reminded me. I think we could take the opportunity to discuss some of the monitoring stuff later in the communal hall. - Remus couldn't help himself.
- Do we have to?
- For some reason people in my year prefer your mentoring to mine.
- I didn't realize this, but if you say so.
Their conversation was interrupted by the dinner in front of them, occupying them for the next twenty minutes. Contrary to what Sirius had said months before, Hermione didn't murder the chicken thigh with her hands, she ate it delicately even - but she had no reason to be upset and take it out on the chicken.
As the two of them got up together, one or two gossiping professors exchanged galleons of a bet not at all worthy of educators. As they passed the stairs, they had to wait five minutes until they decided to return to their original position, giving them permission to go up towards the tower, in the meantime they talked quietly as if the whole scene created by Evans had never happened and had shaken their friendship. Once in the communal hall, Remus sat down on the rug in front of the fireplace, waiting for Jean to sit down on the couch next to him.
- You know, not that many people go to the monitorship.
- But of all the three who went, two went to you.
- In contrast, the four below in seventh grade ignored me and asked you for help, and I'm not complaining about that.
The truth was that most of the people who went to talk to him were only because it was the only possibility and opening he gave them to approach him.
- Probably because they think you will jinx them. - Remus commented, pulling a chocolate bar from his coat pocket.
- And why would I do that? - Jean asked, taking the chocolate he offered her.
- You're not one of the more sociable ones, you know. - He looked at her as he bit into the candy.
- Neither are you.
- But you're different. I've been here for seven years, you've just arrived, and you still have that frown on your face. That's scary, you know?
- At least the person I wanted to scare the most, the one I wanted to scare the most, the bridge of running away with my tail between my legs, is still giving me a hard time.
- Sirius?
- That's right. How do you manage to hang out with him without going crazy? Worse, how can you eat so much chocolate and still have this body?
- This body? - He was surprised.
- Come on, don't play dumb! You don't seem to know how you... Yeah!
"She likes what she sees...?" - Moony found it strange.
- My metabolism is fast, that's all. - He shrugged trying to hide that he was slightly embarrassed both by her noticing him and by the unnecessary comment from the wolf that divided his body and clearly was the reason he kept stuffing himself with candy and never gained an ounce more.
'You're welcome.' - The wolf had the nerve to say thank you.
- Well, mine is too, and if I don't control myself, I'll win very quickly.
- I don't think... I think you're fine the way you are, it's just your hair that I have my disagreements with, but you already know that. - Remus said without thinking, stuffing a giant piece of chocolate into his mouth to keep himself occupied.
- Was that a compliment? - Hermione was amused.
- I only returned what you said before, but I really preferred your long curls.
- Thank you, Hermione. For the compliment and well... for liking my curls.
* * *
As fast as it came, the easter holiday was over, and as far as our couple "friends" were concerned it was as if all the misunderstanding of Valentine's Day hadn't happened, Hermione and Remus went back to talking quietly, exchanging books of common interest, preparing the tutoring classes and when they didn't study together it was because Remus was with the Rascals while Jean was in the library with a certain sonserino.
Saturday had arrived once again and naturally the morning was busy with the various groups of students coming and going from their tour of Hogsmeade! Hermione had left early, intending to buy some new feathers, since hers had mysteriously appeared enchanted the previous afternoon, just writing...
"Sirius Black is a handsome fellow"
"Sirius Black is calling you to go out next weekend"
"My dream is to go out with Sirius Black"
"Why does the pretty girl pay attention to nerdy Lupin and not Sirius Black?"
She had to admit, Sirius had style - he even managed to get a smile out of her with that tactic (followed by a celebration a la Pele and Galvão Bueno at the 1998 World Cup final when the older man noticed her smile in the communal room). But although she found the gesture funny, Hermione couldn't hand in her assignments with those sayings - how funny would it be for Professor Binns to receive an essay with only invitations to leave Sirius?
Making sure to leave her feather case well away from the naughty ones, Hermione slipped into the local bookstore, spending the next fifty minutes lost in thought, just perusing the new titles.
- Why isn't it a surprise to find you here? - Snape blinked as he pulled a book from the shelf and bumped into her.
- Probably because this is my natural habitat.
- A complete library pussy. - He replied in a sour voice, causing Hermione to look strangely at him, only to see Malfoy walking past them.
Which meant nothing, since he was more interested in wooing Narcisa Black than anything else.
- Since you insist on it... -Hermione shrugged, ignoring the sonserino, if he wanted to be her friend away from the eyes of others she wouldn't mind, it wasn't anyone's "dirty little secret"!
-Problems? - A third voice chimed in beside her.
Remus and Peter had arrived a few minutes ago only to hear the slight cursing.
- Why would I? - she wondered. Okay, Snape's tone when he called her a "Library rat" was anything but cordial, but she was a library rat and proud of it, so she would let herself be taken aback.
- Isn't that snotty guy bothering you? - Peter, who was not even in the bookstore of his own volition, made himself present, holding up his nose.
Oh, he hadn't done that.... Until then Hermione had treated him as politely as she would any other student at school, she kept reminding herself that he was still a normal person, a good friend of the rascals who hadn't yet betrayed them like the real rat he was. But calling Snape by that ridiculous nickname for no reason had given her every possible reason to disdain him, at least for the moment.
But she remembered that Remus had also called Severus that.
Gee, this floor is dirty, isn't it? You'd better give it a good wipe, that's for sure.
- Sorry, what?
- Snot...
- I heard perfectly well what you said, I just don't understand what or who you're referring to.
- Snape. - Remus translated uncomfortably, realizing how annoyed the girl was now with them.
- If you want to refer to him, call him by his last name, not by unnecessary nicknames. And no, I haven't had anyone bothering me so far. - She pointed out, and the next second she saw Lily walk through the doorway, which caused both her and Snape, who was still in the next hallway, to shiver. - If you'll excuse me.
She quickly left, or rather fled, the establishment - Hermione intended to hide from the redhead as long as she could after all the misunderstanding on Valentine's Day. Not that she thought Lily was going to make any little jokes about her and Lupin or anything, but she wanted to avoid any uncomfortable talk about apologies or anything like that. Hermione knew that the older girl hadn't meant any harm, it was actually a big misunderstanding, but running away seemed much easier than facing the redhead who insisted that she should get out of her bubble and make friends with the other girls she shared the dorm with...
Remus, on the other hand, had misinterpreted the whole situation.  In his perception, Jean had left because she was really upset with the way he and Peter had treated Snape. That is, he who was already annoyed by Sirius' last attempt to get the girl's attention, was now infinitely more unhappy for having disappointed the witch. Come on, just when he thought he had succeeded in catching the attention of a pretty girl, Sirius went and tried and succeeded before him! Worse, even Snape had been defended by her! He was not happy about that at all.
"GO AFTER HER!" - Moony imposed his opinion, moving his legs and sending him after her.
He didn't have to walk very far, as soon as he left the bookstore leaving Peter with Lily and James he managed to spot her at the end of the street passing just followed her to .... House of Screams. Well, this was probably the first time he had seen her in the village, so it was only fair that she went there to see the famous haunted house... He just hoped she wouldn't be curious about the screams, since the person responsible (Him) had been trying to be noticed by her for a long time - he definitely didn't want it to be in the context of: "Hi, is I'm the reason people think the house is haunted because once a month I turn into a beast with claws and fangs that likes to howl at the moon." Ignoring his mental outburst he took a deep breath to build courage and ease the tension before getting the girl's attention.
- Is everything all right, Jean?
- Why wouldn't I be? - She didn't look at him.
- It's not like you to leave like that.
- If I had stayed, you would either have started a duel with Snape in the middle of the store, or Evans would have come to disturb me. Since I wanted neither, I left.
- Does she annoy you that much? - Remus didn't like the way he felt cringe at that idea.
- Doesn't she annoy you? It would be the same if you started pestering me that I was dating Snape, or worse, Malfoy. - She had been thinking about Draco at that moment, she admitted. I mean, not that she is this matchmaking or pushy person. I know she is a wonderful person, but she is trying very hard to get me to fit in with people and any sign of any interaction I have with any other student or pupil she turns into a huge happy thing
Every statement about a possible flirtation with Snape or Malfoy irritated Moony a little, so much so that Remus himself barely paid attention to the end of the girl's statement as he was trying to convince the wolf that eating snakes was not healthy at all.
- Can I ask you a question? - Hermione roused Remus from his bubble.
- He just did.
- What do you have against Snape?
- I have nothing against him, exactly..." She began to say, remembering not to call the boy a snot. - He is a sonserino who insists on mocking, even if not as openly as the other snakes, any Griffinian. And, well, after the whole situation with Lily in fifth year... I don't know if you know, but... In short, they were best friends until he said horrible things to her! So I can't tolerate guys like him on principle. Not to mention the company he keeps. It seems that I have a lot of things against him...
It wasn't as if Hermione had an answer for the situation, she herself knew how horrible it was to be called a bad blood, so it wasn't as if she could defend Snape in that sense. And the Griffinian-Sonserine implications were a rivalry as old as time, meaning both sides were wrong and unless someone decided to be an adult in the situation and put an end to those implications nothing would be solved. But soon her contemplative silence was interrupted when Remus turned to her.
- That's why I don't like him! - said the boy as if he had just discovered the real reason for his dislike of the Sonserine. - He hangs out with Avery, Mulciber, Malfoy, and Black, and if you haven't noticed, all of them are the offspring of dinosaurs!
- Sirius is also a Black and the son of a diner, and frankly I don't see either you or James becoming one. - Hermione let it slip, losing her color after the quick realization that she had left Peter out of her statement.
A fact that Remus, thank God, didn't notice.
- But they are diners, diners, Hermione! - Remus said his real name, low and exasperated. - The ones who destroyed your village, killed your parents and friends! The same ones who sent you here, made you need to change your name and... e.... cut your hair! - He spoke louder the last part, putting too much emphasis on his haircut than on everything else.
- It's just hair, Remus! - Hermione was already a little annoyed that he was insisting so much on this and wanted to divert the subject from anything about her "dead" parents or the attack of diners on her "village".
- Very nice hair! - His voice had come out a little huskier, with a golden glow quickly passing through his eyes.
"MOONY!" - Remus scolded the wolf, who was struggling to be heard since he had realized that all that arguing between Jean and her human part was certainly heading for a fight. Their first fight, by the way.
- Lupin, honestly... - Jean shook her head negatively, holding back from rolling her eyes. - If you're really going to give me a hard time about my friendship choices, I might as well do the same.
- What do you mean by that?
- You say I can't hang out with Snape because of what he's done to Lily in the past and because he's friends with "proto" dinosaurs, but you forget that you're not in a good situation yourself. If you really want me to stay away from Snape, I'll do it.
The smile began to grow on Remus' face, only to be interrupted with a
- But only if you stay away from James. - She would have liked to include Sirius in the speech by mentioning when the boy had set Severus up to go to the screaming house on a full moon where he could have died! But in theory she didn't know that so she wouldn't say anything.
- What? What does this have to do with anything?
-You complain so much about him calling Lily a Bad Blood, but you forget that he only did that after being hung upside down with no pants in the middle of the garden! By the way, why didn't you stop them?! You can't dislike people to the point of being irrelevant in matters like that!
- He told you...
- It wasn't only you who tried hard to keep me away from someone potentially dangerous. - he joked.
Remus took a deep breath, processing all of this. He couldn't, he just couldn't do that for just one girl, even if she was the most amazing, intelligent, beautiful girl he had ever met. James was his brother, the one who knew his secret and wouldn't give up his friendship even if it meant befriending a monster.
- I'm sorry, Granger. I can't do this.
- I know, that's exactly why I won't stay away from Snape either. They both made mistakes, but that doesn't mean they can't get a second chance and change for the better. James did it for Lily and I believe Snape just needs a little better friends. After all, as you pointed out, the company he keeps is dubious to say the least, but that doesn't mean he is evil. I'm not asking you to approach him and invite him over for tea, I'm just asking you not to worry about it.
- But I do worry about you! - he let slip, watching Jean's body tensing immediately. - I mean, you are my friend, and you are clearly associating with witches who will surely become the same as... those who took everything from you.
Indeed they would, but it would take them twenty years to do so.
- Remus, I'm not marrying him, just studying together. But if it worries you so much, I think you should start reviewing your list of friendships as soon as possible. - she said, turning her back to the boy.
Remus didn't know what to do when he saw her leave. He hated her disappointed tone, disappointed in him and his friends. And worse, he didn't know how to fix it, he couldn't just walk away from his best friends to defend his point of view, after all he himself knew that wasn't what Jean wanted when she forced the topic. But he also couldn't stop worrying about her and the risk she was taking by getting close to Snape and consequently other sonserinos who could be a real risk to her!
James' fights with Lily seemed much more fun, mainly because they were settled in the next second. Why couldn't his fight with Jean be the same way? He asked himself as he walked back to the village alone.
"It wouldn't be bad at all to get a reconciliation kiss" - Moony opined, remembering how James and Lily's fights were resolved.
Remus just laughed defeatedly, considering that lately the Wonder Couple's heated fights ended in a public spat, but Jean was just a friend?
No, she was definitely more than that! She was his best friend! And maybe... Anyway, he just wanted to work it out with her as soon as possible.
They needed to work it out!

Just some random James Potter headcanons that I live by.
• ULTIMATE MUM FRIEND
• was seriously always making sure his friends were staying healthy and taking care of themselves
• "I couldn't care less about the Transfiguration test tomorrow Remus, it will be okay, you've been studying the entire day already, but it's fucking 2 am, so you're going to bed right now."
• "I know you're nervous about the potions test Pete, but you have to eat something, I'm not going to let you starve yourselve."
• normally harmless, but talk bad about his friends in front of him and you better run for your life, because he will not think twice about hexing you until you can barely stand up staight anymore
• always stands up for people being bullied in the corridors
• is also always there for little first years to help them find their way through the castle
• even sometimes offering to actually walk them to class when they are really unsure of themselves, even though he knows that that means coming late for his own classes and risking a detention
• true ladies man
• Lily was pretty much the only girl of their year to be immune to his charms (in other words: the only sensible one with a bit of self respect)
• even though his flirting techniques were absolutely ridiculous and annoying, he could pull them off; he was just that charming
• his middle name was F l e a m o n t
• which was something he tried to hide at all costs. The only people who knew about it were the other Marauders and Lily, because of the personalized parchment Euphemia insisted on buying for him
• came up with the idea of becoming animagi, after reading about it in his Transfiguration book
• was completely oblivious about two of his best mates having feelings for each other and getting together, until he walked in on them during sixth year
• he screamed like a little girl when he saw them, making Remus and Sirius laugh for a solid ten minutes after they got over their initial shock of being caught
• they told Peter and Lily what happened and even though Remus and Sirius were the ones who had been found half-naked, it was James who ended up being most embarrassed about the whole thing
• ever since the beginning of first year, James had set himself a goal to win a chess game against Peter.
• halfway through sixth year he finally succeeded (purely because Peter was a bit distracted -Mary had just walked into the common room in possibly the shortest skirt he had ever seen- , but this didn't stop James from being ecstatic about his victory)
• he actually hosted a party in the common room that night, to crown himself as "the new Gryffindor chess king"
• the fact that the next game between them was won by Peter again, was conveniently overlooked (and not just that one, James has never won a single game again)
• way too competitive with everything
• and a very sore loser
• when he became Quidditch captain in his fifth year, the team had very mixed feelings about it
• on one hand they were very happy, because James was an amazing captain, who definitely managed to get the very best out of the team
• but on the other hand did no one much enjoy the practices on Sundays that started at 5:30 am..
• hopelessly romantic and sappy as fuck
• when he and Lily started dating, he literally couldn't go for five minutes without telling her how beautiful she was and how lucky he was to have her
• Lily would roll her eyes, but a blush would still creep up her cheeks every single time
• he proposed to her on their second anniversary, while they were taking a stroll during sunrise
• he cried when he asked her, and the tears only came faster when she said yes
• he hid little notes to Lily in the house before he went on a mission for the order: "you are so beautiful" and "I love you" and "I'll be back before you know it"
• just like Sirius he was a natural genius who always aced his tests, without ever having to study too hard, which annoyed Lily immensely
• real mommy's boy
• loved his mother so much, and was never "too cool" to show this (this was one of the things that made Lily realise he wasn't that bad)
• the boy had No. Sense. Of. Shame.
• literally, the word shame wasn't in his dictionary
• Sirius' cockiness was partly a cover up for his insecurities
• James' wasn't.
• he just really was that confident and cocky and arrogant
• and he really couldn't care less about what other people thought of him. Didn't care when he was making a complete fool of himself in front of the entire school
• and honestly, this was the only reason he got away with it all. Because he really couldn't care less about being considered weird or annoying (even at times when he really should)
• came up with their nicknames (because let's be honest, no one could've come up with such incredibly dull names, except for James Fleamont Potter)
• he completely freaked out when Lily told him she was pregnant, because he was only 20, how was he going to raise a kid?? And they were in the middle of a war, they can't bring a little human into this world right now??
• but even though he was incredibly nervous about being a dad, once Harry was born, James knew that this was the best thing to ever happen to him, and he became an amazing father
• because he had never thought he could ever love anyone as much as he loved Lily, but when he met that little guy, who had her eyes, he knew that Lily would from that moment on have to share the number one spot in his heart
• this was why, when James realised that it was Voldemort who had found them on that fateful Halloween day, he didn't even think twice about the sacrifice he was about to make. If he had the opportunity to make Lily's and Harry's changes of survival even slightly larger, he would take it, without hesitation

Tony died only he didn’t really, while he’s ‘dead’ his family has his funeral, where his sons have no idea they’re holding out for a hero miracle
Actual summary
Pepper tells Steve that Tony's body is in Wakanada, being worked on in hopes they can bring him back, Steve and Rhodey takes it upon themselves to make sure that Harley and Peter will be okay while Tony's dead, while also not telling them about everything whoops. does that make sense? who knows, anyway its cute and sad but the series will get happier
AO3 [X]
Steve Rogers hadn’t put it past Tony to survive the second (third?) snap, sure they had gone to his funeral, but there was always that part of him which was hoping, deeply hoping.
Pepper had been the one to tell him that Tony’s body was frozen in Wakanda in the hopes that they could help, their technology was far more advanced than even Starks, and no one really knew what happened when the snaps happened, despite Stark, Banner, and Strange’s estimations.
Pepper had also told him that the kids didn’t know, which made sense in the case of Morgan, she was only four and sure she was as bright as Tony ever was, but it could still be cruel to give her hope, he was certain that Pepper had misspoke when she used the plural of the word until she pulled two teenage boys into a tight hug with Morgan between the three of them.
He knew that one was Peter Parker, the kid who was the Spiderman, though he wasn’t even sixteen yet, he was the one who Tony had done this all for, the one Tony had lost, who he would sometimes say “the kid would like this” or “c’mon what would Pete do?” when he thought others couldn’t hear him. The other he had asked Nat about, she told him he was Harley Keener, who had helped save Tony and the world when the Mandarin was around causing havoc, Steve had of course heard about him.
He walked over to them while they were in the cabin talking to each other, the smaller kid looking quiet, or as puppy phrased it ‘like a kicked puppy dog, kinda like you used to Stevie’, the other was almost trying to make up for the other with the enthusiasm in his voice and with his hand gestures.
“Queens.” He greeted allowing a small smirk on his face to show he was past being put on his ass by a fourteen year old, and to seem non-threatening. The kid froze, stood up straighter, and looked guilty, not the impression Steve had hoped to make.
“Mr Captain America, sir.”
A snot came from the slightly older kid.
Steve sent the pair a smile. “It’s just Steve, Spidey.”
“Peter, Peter Parker, sir. I’m, er, I’m sorry about the whole, tffwap tffwap thing,” he did gestures which Steve recognised as the things he had down to make the webs, “and everything, I mean I’m glad Mr Stark found me, but I’m still sorry that…” He trailed off.
“Wow, Pete, Tony must have loved you calling him Mr Stark all the time, probably did his ego wonders.” Harley’s sarcastic southern drawl was somehow full of fondness.
Peter’s cheeks pinkened a little, he shrugged his shoulders. “He kinda hated it. It’s not my fault, my uncle, he taught me,” His voice thickened a little and for a second Steve was worried he was going to cry, but he pushed it back and continued, “and they’re big on it at my school.
“Damn, I would have used it on Tony if I’d known it annoyed him.” His voice was serious but when he met Peter’s eyes the two of them burst out laughing.
They didn’t notice the team, the family , around them smiling at the two, but Steve did.
“It must be weird to be here together without Tony.” Steve said sympathetically, once they had finished laughing, trying to move onto what he had been intending on talking about.
“Oh no, we’ve never met before today, I didn’t even know who he was, I mean he’s obviously, he was obviously important to Mr- to Tony but I…” He trailed off.
Harley threw an arm around Peter’s shoulders. “Tony always said he kept us apart so we didn’t cause too many explosions.” He supplied, his smile widened when he heard Peter laughed, Harley plastered on an innocent look but there was a glint in his eyes. “I think he thought I’d corrupt Pete, which is just offensive.” The glint disappeared and his face fell ever so slightly. “He kept talkin’ about getting you back, when I spoke to him while you were gone... he’d introduce us and we’d finally meet, that we could spend Christmas with him.” He swallowed deeply and it was clear that the two of them were about to cry.
Steve reached into his pocket, pulled out two handkerchiefs (one of which Bucky had actually forgotten that morning but Steve had forgotten to give back to him), he handed one to each of the boys who subtly dried their eyes and calmed down. He focused on Peter first who seemed to be taking longer to calm down. “I’m not really going to be a hero anymore, I’m passing the mantle onto Sam, Falcon, but I’ll still be in New York most of the time, unless I’m hanging out with the team, that’s not to far from Queens, you need anything just call me, any time, I’ll be there in ten, whether it’s hero business, or if it’s just you wanting to talk to someone, about anything, though if it’s science I might need Dr Banner in my ear to explain some of the stuff. I do have quite a few funny stories about Tony though.” He reached out and squeezed Peter’s shoulder before turning to look at Harley. “Tony said you were going to MIT, once this all calmed down, it’s a little far for me to run but the same goes to you, if you need me just let me know, I’ll be there in a couple of hours, and if you need to talk,” he nodded his head.
“I’ll be around MIT.”
Steve turned to see Rhodey walking towards them, he was trying to smile, to stay light hearted as he did around Tony, he locked eyes with him and knew in a moment that they both knew where Tony’s body really was, and that Pepper was right -Tony’s kids couldn’t know.
“So if, as Tony would put it, ‘your smart mouth’ gets you into trouble, let me know. I still have a suit or two lying around, and I did enough talking to cops when your-” he stopped himself from saying ‘dad’ but Steve heard it, he was pretty sure both kids did too, “when Tony was in MIT with me. And I have plenty of photos and embarrassing stories about him.”
He had planned on filling the boys on those at christmas so he could be the fun uncle, and they could hold it over his head, Tony wouldn’t have minded, but… well they’d have to fill the Tony sized hole in all of their lives… “And Pete, I’ll be around New York sometimes too, and when I’m not, like Steve said, I’m a phone call away. Tony was, he had been tinkering, while Morgan was asleep, he managed to improve the StarkPhones in this place,” he shook his head wondering how smart his best friend really was, to still be trying to improve the world while in a cabin in the woods surrounded by a world which was fractured in two, “he put a couple of them aside for both of you, he sounded bummed when he said that you’d both probably find ways to improve them within an hour of having them.”
He smiled at them, Tony had been so proud when he had said that, Rhodey knew where he had left them, upstairs in the kids rooms, which neither of them had spent a night in, Harley had refused to visit until as Tony had told him ‘the old man got off his ass and fixed this shit’, and Peter for obviously reasons couldn’t. “We’re not Tones,” Rhodey tilted his head back to the overspilling rooms, full of heroes who were broken without their mechanic, “but we’re family, you two are part of that, have been since Tony met you both, we’ll have your back, all of us. We’re gonna rebuild the compound, once it’s done you should both come hang out, train, we’re big on video games there, I’m guessing you both know a thing or two about that.”
Steve let out a snort of laughter. “Yeah, we need someone to beat Clint, finally, I think he somehow hacked the game disk…”
“I don’t think you can do that…” Harley’s tone was cautious but he was smiling again. “I mean unless Tony made it and pirated the game…” They could see the gears in the two boys' minds turning with the possibilities, before both of their faces dropped, clearly remembering Tony.
Steve and Rhodey watched Harley pull Peter more into his side, both of them looking at the floor to hide their blossoming tears, and all Captain America and War Machine could think of was the body in Wakanda which they would be flying to sit vigil over, waiting, hoping, praying, for a spark of life,... and that Tony would wake up before the boys found out.

My giant fic rec list
Here is my ongoing list of fic recs! More added as I read.
* unfinished
Featuring peterick, hankcon, erasermic, leopika, and ineffable husbands
Peterick
With The Moon In His Arms
Pete is a merman who saves Patrick’s life.
A Little Infamy
Patrick is a solo artist who's sunk his heart and soul into a second album that's failing to chart. Obviously what he needs to bump up sales and dirty up his nice guy image is a sex scandal. His music label hire amateur porn star and aspiring poet Pete to pose as Patrick's boyfriend and together they make one intimate video destined for infamy on the internet.
Patrick falling for Pete isn't part of the plan.
The Truth About Patrick
Pete Wentz is a fashion mogul with a brand new music label who gets an earful of struggling artist Patrick Stump's demo and wants to sign him. Except when he asks to see a photo of Patrick, Patrick sends him a picture of his hot roommate Mikey Way instead.
An AU based on the movie The Truth About Cats and Dogs.
Anything by SnitchesAndTalkers
Seriously they have so many good fics so I just linked their AO3 but some of my favourites they’ve written are Christmastime In The City, Dead and Dreaming, Pretty In Punk, and The Pros and Cons of Craigslist
I Could Crush You With My Voice
Pete was in an accident at an Arma show that left him totally blind. After four months of moping around his apartment, totally depressed, he opens his window and hears Patrick singing. It's love at first listen.
I Have Forgiven Jesus
In June 1952, Father Patrick Stump is involved in a scandal so great that the Diocese of Chicago has no choice but to send him away in disgrace. He finds himself in the town of Clark, Mississippi, a town not known for its tolerance of anything other than the All American Dream.
Pete never wanted to make the move to Clark but found himself forced by lack of opportunities and the death of his father during the war. Out of work and close to out of hope, he stumbles across a card in the general store, neither he, not the writer of the card aware that what follows will alter the course of their lives irrevocably.
But the smallest towns often have the darkest secrets...
You Know, I Only Wanted Fun
It’s a Hogwarts AU
But There’s No Preparing for This
Out of absolutely everything in the Central Chicago Public Library that Patrick was proud of, the number one thing was the erotica section. Was that a weird thing to be proud of? Possibly. But everyone knows librarians are the weirdest people on the planet.
On the other hand, the one thing Patrick absolutely hated about his job was difficult patrons. And the most difficult patron in the existence of difficult patrons was Pete Wentz, a man who had a big mouth and bad opinions about Patrick’s erotica section. Patrick could happily go the rest of his career without seeing Pete Wentz ever again. Like, ever. He had a loud voice and grating jokes and Patrick hoped he’d stay far, far away this weekend when Central Chicago Public Library played host to Kingston Lewis, the best erotica writer this century.
Hankcon
All The Beds I’ve Made *
Connor, co-owner of a popular coffee shop in Detroit, has been content to bury himself in his business instead of putting himself out there.
Things change when a cantankerous lieutenant becomes a regular.
(Modern Coffee Shop AU)
Bound
Hank is the sole owner, and worker, of a quaint little cafe nestled in a quite coastal village in the far north of the UK. Nine times out of ten the weather is utterly abysmal, rolling grey clouds and rain showers most days, and his shop is hidden down a narrow cobbled back alley, but he’s somewhat of a local legend for his comfort food.
It’s during one such grim, dreary day when Connor stumbles into his cafe, and his life.
Eighteen Wheels on an Uphill Climb
Hank is going to die. He’s going to die right here in Kentucky, 53 years old, halfway to broke, and tragically sober. Survived only by a nine-year-old St. Bernard and the 31-year-old twink who delivered the fatal blow.
Erasermic
How To Take Care Of A Mummy? *
Present Mic is being a personal nurse for an injured Aizawa.
Guess the rest...
Dragon Fruit
Being a dragon slayer is certainly a lonely and dangerous job, but someone has to do it, and Shouta Aizawa is that someone. He is a member of the Aizawa clan, after all. The job was supposed to be routine, just another dragon to kill to protect a nearby village, but the slayer's life changes forever when he meets Hizashi Yamada, a bard cursed to turn into a dragon whenever the sun rises. Really, there's only one glaring issue: Aizawa can't stand bards.
Hizashi doesn't deserve this curse - at least he thinks he doesn't. How's he supposed to live out a normal life of playing music and seducing women when he has horns and a tail? And that's only during the night! Nevertheless, he's survived with this curse for three years now, but his time's running out. Mating season is fast approaching and if he isn't cured by spring, he'll be completely consumed by the curse. His only hope is Shouta Aizawa, the same man who has promised to destroy him should they fail. Can the two really work together and find the cure when they can't even get along, or is Hizashi doomed to succumb to the dragon's curse?
Leopika
Event Horizons series *
Living in New York City is tough for anyone, and it’s no different for Leorio Paladiknight. He’s a medical school dropout, he’s up to his ears in debt, and his best friend Pietro has been in the hospital for months. But when he meets a feisty blond barista named Kurapika on a beautiful spring afternoon, his life takes an unexpected turn.
It’s Gonna Be a Bumpy Ride *
Leorio hated his cousin, Ging. He was a failure of a dad and couldn’t be bothered to watch his own kid for more than three minutes. It was Leorio’s turn to watch the kid now and it wasn’t like he was going to say no. Gon had no where else to go. He could at least let the teen bum on his couch for a few days.
He did not anticipate Gon’s incredible ability to talk to anyone, including his strange and stoic neighbor with the creepy quiet kid. He could have done with out the crazy clown and the gang drama but, hey, anything for family. (Plus that neighbor is cute when he’s not contemplating murderous revenge.)
The Odd Job
Amateur ghost hunter, Leorio Paladiknight, seems to put himself in quite a lot of spiritual predicaments. This leaves him at the mercy of a surly occult shop owner who might have more than just a few tricks up his sleeve.
Ineffable Husbands
Break my Cage and Spread my Wings *
Everyone called the Titanic the 'Ship of Dreams', but for Aziraphale, it was the ship of nightmares, carrying her away from her home in England, and her dreams of freedom, and towards the bleak future of her arranged marriage in America. The only spark of light in the darkness is her new and tentative friendship with the boldly intimate Crowley.

Whumptober Prompt 7 - Isolation (Pt 2)
Read on ao3
Summary: A continuation of yesterday’s prompt.
Six months. Peter has been missing for six months. No. Not missing, taken by the government for mutant experimentation. Tony swore he’d always protect him. He’d broken his promise. The kid had been taken off the street when he was walking home from school, no one’s seen him since.
It’s been six long months of drinking and sleepless nights and crying. Every night he prayed that the next day he would find the boy, but it never came true. He gave up on taking care of himself, he didn’t eat unless someone forced a plate into his hands. And when he did eat, he never was able to finish the full plate. He didn’t sleep unless he passed out or Rhodey or Steve carried him to his bed and locked the door. Every time he closed his eyes he heard himself promising Peter that he would always keep him safe and protect him. Tony hasn’t been able to sleep through the night.
For the past six months, the team has been working tirelessly to find the boy. But they can’t do much by staying hidden. And as much as Steve loves Peter, he can’t risk Wanda, Bucky, Bruce, or himself in the process of finding him. They’ve gotten closer to finding him, but have been unable to find a good enough lead. Peter’s disappearance has taken a major toll on the team. They fight all the time and they all blame themselves and each other. Tensions between Steve and Tony run higher every day.
Rhodey comes down to Tony’s lab at about two in the morning. Heavy bags rest under his eyes, his eyes are alight with happiness, something that has been missing from Rhodey’s eyes for far too long. “Tones?” He asks, seeing Tony hunched over at his desk.
“I know, honey bear,” Tony sounds exhausted. He leans back in his chair, setting down his tools. “I know I should sleep, but every time I close my eyes...”
Rhodey puts his hand on Tony’s back, “I think we found him.”
Tony’s head snaps up, “What?”
Rhodey nods with tears welling in his eyes, “Yeah, Tones. We got a lead to a facility in Michigan. We think that’s where he is.”
“James, are you shitting me right now,” Tony says. Rhodey is so surprised to hear his given name coming from his friend's mouth that he pauses for a moment before remembering to nod. Tony gasps and almost tackles Rhodey with a hug. The two men’s arms are tight around each other with relief and happiness.
Tony drags a shaking hand through his hair, “We-we-we needs to go, we need to save him!” He tries to push past Rhodey, but the man stops him with a hand on his chest.
“We’re getting the team ready in the morning,” he says calmly. “You need sleep.”
Tony shakes his head, “No, no. Rhodey, please.” Tony’s cheeks are covered with tear tracks. “He’s my kid, he’s my kid. I-I need to save him. I promised I would keep him safe.”
Rhodey brings Tony into a hug, “You need sleep, Tones. We’ll leave as soon as everyone is awake in the morning. Okay?” Tony sighs and nods, knowing there is no point in fighting him. “Do you want a sleeping pill?” Tony nods again.
In the morning, Tony wakes up the same he does every morning. His head is groggy from the sleeping pill he took. A pounding headache tells him he needs a plate of food and a glass of water. But then he remembers that they are going to find Peter today. And for the first time in a long while, Tony wakes up with his heart full of hope.
He drags himself out of bed and into the bathroom. When he looks in the mirror, he frowns. His beard is overgrown and his eyes are heavy. This isn’t the version of Tony he wants Peter to see, he needs to look collected and composed. He reaches for his razor with a sigh.
Half an hour later, Tony walks into the kitchen to see everyone waiting for him. His hair is combed, his clothes are clean, and his face is freshly shaven. Wanda, Steve, and Clint all nod in approval at him. Bruce offers him a supportive smile while Rhodey walks over to him and claps him on the shoulder affectionately. Tony smiles at them, “Are we ready or what?”
Rhodey smiles at him and looks around at the team, “Hell yeah we are. Let’s go get our boy.”
During the plane ride, Tony can only think about what it’ll be like when they find him. He’ll give him a big long hug, wrap him in as many blankets as possible, and stay with him for as long as he’ll let him. He’ll never let him out of his sight again.
But then Tony thinks about how Peter will be. He’s been missing for six months, that’s six months of injuries and pain and fear. Will he look the same? Will he recognize Tony? Will he want to be comforted? Will he be alive?
Rhodey sits down beside him, snapping him out of his thoughts. Without preamble, Rhodey says, “No matter what happens or what we find you have to promise me you’ll survive.”
“Rhodey-”
“I’m not asking that you be okay, I’m just asking that you keep living.” Rhodey’s eyes are intense.
Tony gives Rhodey a sad smile, “Honeybear, you know I can’t.”
“Tony. You’re my best friend.” Rhodey takes Tony’s hand and squeezes. “I need you to swear to me that you will stay alive.”
Tony sighs, “You’re going to make me say it aren’t you?” Rhodey nods. “Then yes, I promise.” Rhodey sighs and pats his knee.
When they touch down a few miles from the facility, Tony goes on auto piolet. All he can think about is Peter. He walks with the team as if in a daze, he finally comes to when The all of a sudden they’re facing a door they expect Peter to be behind. Tony’s heart flutters with hope.
Steve rams his shoulder into the door over and over again before it falls open. Tony pushes past the man to get inside the room. That’s when he sees him.
Peter is curled up in a small ball in the corner of the room, his face hidden from Tony’s view. His clothes hang off his bony frame and his skin is yellow and pale. From his position, Tony can see cuts and bruises decorating his skin. Small whimpers come from Peter and he is visibly shaking. From this reaction, Tony knows Peter expects it to be his captors coming through the door.
But Peter is alive.
And Peter is right in front of him.
Tony steps out of his suit and walks toward the boy slowly. “Pete?” He crouches down in front of the boy. “Peter? Can you hear me?” When Peter doesn’t respond, Tony reaches out and touches his arm.
Peter’s head snaps up as he flinches away from Tony, pressing himself further into the corner of the room. Tony is frozen at the sight of him. Peter’s cheeks are gaunt and hollow. His eyes are red and his lips are chapped.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” Tony whispers. “It’s me, it’s Tony. You’re going to be okay.”
“T-Tony?” Peter’s voice is scratchy and it sounds painful for him to speak.
Tony chokes on his tears, “Yeah. Yeah, I’m here kid.”
Peter reaches out and touches Tony’s cheek, “You’re really here?” Tony nods through his tears. Peter gasps and launches himself into Tony’s arms. Tony holds the boy tight, one hand on the back of his head. Peter cries against Tony’s chest, hands grasping at his back.
“We need to get out of here,” Tony tells him quietly. “Do you think you can walk?”
Peter shakes his head, “I don’t know.”
Tony doesn’t hesitate to lift the boy into his arms. Peter rests his head in the crook of Tony’s neck, eyes closed tightly. Tony commands his suit to follow him and walks out of the cell. Steve and Natasha pause for a moment at the sight of the boy before following Tony.
Peter keeps his eyes shut the whole time, his head tucked under Tony’s chin. Tony whispers reassurances to him, “You’re okay. I’m here. You’re safe. Everything’s okay now.” Tony can feel Peter’s tears soaking through his shirt.
“Tony...” Peter whispers desperately.
“I’m right here, Roo,” Tony says gently. “You’re okay now, we’re almost there.”
When they arrive back at the quinjet, Tony gently lays the boy down on the gurney and Bruce begins his examination. Rhodey sits down beside Tony and wraps an arm around his friend, “We found him. He’s going to be okay.”
Tony nods, “Yeah.”

It IS easy to kidnap Spiderman (If Peter Parker has to go to a board meeting)
This has also been posted at AO3, but I thought it might be good to have a back-up of the story on another website. Just in case.
Summary: Slightly crack-ish, not to be taken too seriously, mostly just written for fun. Peter has to go to an S.I. board meeting. Peter doesn’t want to go to an S.I. board meeting. Peter can’t come up with an excuse to not go to an S.I. board meeting. Peter needs a miracle. … Or, alternatively, a van full of kidnappers.
“I’m going to die!”
Peter whined as he, Ned and MJ crossed the street. Ned shot his best friend a somewhat sympathetic look, while the girl in the group rolled her eyes.
“You are not going to die because you have to sit through one measly big wig meeting.”
Peter ignored her.
“Goodbye oh cruel world. How heartlessly you rip me from existence.”
MJ folded her arms as they kept walking.
“You do realize that as the official heir to Stark Industries, you are going to have to deal with this stuff all the time, right?”
Peter dramatically gripped his chest, looking up into the sky.
“The lights… are fading… Limbs… growing cold… I see… a tunnel… Mother, is that… you?… Begging me.. to go… into the light?… Must. Move. Towards. The. Light! I am… going… Home… Goodbye cruel world! … Rose…bud.”
And then he gracelessly slumped against the store front to his left, slowly sliding down. Ned clapped politely, while Michelle kept frowning.
“Really? The possum from ‘Over the hedge’?”
Peter was up in an instant.
“Don’t diss the classics, MJ.”
And there went the eye roll again.
“My point stands. You are one day going to head one of the most, if not the most, successful and important enterprises in the world. You are going to need to learn how to do it. And like it or not, that includes sitting through board meetings.”
They stopped at an intersection, waiting for the light to turn green.
“But it’s gonna be so boring! They will be talking about market value and sales figures and the development of our sister companies and the possibilities of future trading partners, and I’m going to fall asleep, okay? I’m going to fall asleep right there, and then I will slide from the chair and crack my head open on the incredibly expensive meeting table, and then I will be bleeding out on the floor, - which is probably carpeted with imported, high quality, unicorn hair. And then everyone is going to look at me all judgmental like, and Pepper and Tony are gonna rethink leaving their billion dollar baby in the hands of a super spaz like me. And if I somehow survive bleeding to death on unicorn hair carpet, I will die of shame.”
The light finally turned and the three friends proceeded.
“Unicorn hair?” Ned questioned.
“It’s so soft!” Peter answered with huge, awe-filled eyes. “And you guys haven’t even heard the worst part! Pepper said I can’t bring Hope!”
Now his best male friend looked appropriately shocked by this absolute travesty, but his best female friend just continued to roll her eyes at him. Peter wondered if she ever got dizzy from it.
“Seriously? You are not allowed to bring your overly affectionate and enthusiastic dog to an important board meeting? What is the world coming to?”
Her sarcasm went right over the brunettes head.
“Right?”
Peter and Hope, his shelter rescue Pit Bull, had been pretty much inseparable ever since the teenager adopted the beautiful ball of barely contained love. The only times you would find one without the other was when Peter went out as Spiderman, or when he needed to go to school. He had actually tried sneaking Hope into school with him on the first day, after summer vacation had ended. Needless to say, that plan had been thwarted by the ever present eyes of Friday.
It was a bit of a miracle that Ned and MJ had been able to talk Peter into trying out that new diner that had opened up a few streets away from their school, without the other teenager running home first to bring his loyal follower with them. Though that had probably to do with Peter’s unwillingness to step foot in the tower until he absolutely had to. After all, there was always the chance that Pepper or Tony would just keep him there to further prep him for the upcoming meeting.
Ned nudged him playfully in the side.
“You know, most people would be fruit loops ecstatic about being gifted the inheritance of a multi-billion dollar company for their 17th birthday, instead of complaining about having to attend a meeting.”
Peter just loved that his best friend had picked up his way of swearing.
“I’m not trying to be ungrateful here, I just don’t see the point! After all, it’s not like I will be running any of those meetings once I take over.”
This statement was met with curious stares from both of his friends.
“And how do you figure that, loser?”
Said teen casually threw up his arms and intertwined his fingers behind his head.
“Well, I thought I would just hire you as the acting CEO, so, you know, you can completely dominate the business world and make everyone your little licorice. And everyone will of course include Ned here, who will be head of S.I. Robotics department by then, and yours truly, as I will be french frying around our biochemistry labs whenever I’m not 'on the web’.”
(Which was their extremely unoriginal code for Peter’s Spiderman activities.)
Peter was only slightly surprised by the twin slaps he received to both of his arms.
“The hell, Parker!”
“Dude, that’s not how you tell someone they have an amazing job waiting for them after university!”
To which he just shrugged his shoulders.
“What? It’s pretty much how Tony told me I was the god donuts heir to his and Peppers company. Well, actually he came into the kitchen on the morning of my birthday, while me and Hope were just enjoying breakfast after our early run, and dropped a stack of papers right before me. Then he waved a pen in front of my face and tapped it onto the bottom line on the paper on top of the stack and said: 'Sign here.’ So, naturally, I did, and as soon as I had finished signing, he snatched everything back and said: 'Congrats, kid. You are now the official heir to Stark Industries. Happy Birthday.’ And that was that.”
He immediately received another slap on his arm from MJ.
“You signed something without reading it first? What kind of a moron are you? That’s not how you run a freaking business!”
Peter pointed at her victoriously.
“See! This is exactly why I need you! You are already better at it than I am.”
He looked incredibly satisfied with his reasoning. Ned, who was still not completely over the shock of the metaphorical bomb their friend had just dropped on them, still couldn’t help but agree.
“He’s got a point, MJ. I mean, can you really imagine Pete here, sitting at the head of a table, filled with twenty suit wearing people, and telling them what to do? Face it, you are just way more intimidating than him.”
Peter was nodding along quite happily, though the girl only snorted.
“Please, a marshmallow stuffed cupcake is more intimidating than Parker.”
“Hey! I mean, that does sound ridiculously delicious so I’m kinda flattered, but still!… Do you think we can get that cupcake somewhere?”
Ned smirked. “Well, seeing as you are about to die a horribly pathetic death, I guess we can at least ask when we get to the diner. They are bound to have something overly sugary to satisfy your sweet tooth.”
And Peter slumped once more.
“Did you have to remind me of my impending doom? Why is there never an uprising of the mole people when you need it? Not that I want anyone to be in danger or anything, but a minor little catastrophe, to keep Spiderman occupied long enough to have a valid reason to miss the meeting, would be really, french fruit loops frying appreciated right now.”
And for once, it seemed like some higher power had heard and took pity on the spider-enhanced teenager. Because at exactly that moment, a black, large van was barreling down the street behind them, coming to a screeching halt right next to the three on the sidewalk. Peter instinctively took hold of both of his friends arms and drew them back behind himself, as the side door of the van slid open, and three masked men with guns in their hands emerged out of it. The other pedestrians on the street fled in a light panic at the sight of the armed men.
One of the men, apparently the leader of the group, pointed his gun right at Peter.
“You! Peter Parker! Get into the van, and no one is gonna get hurt!”
Peter looked at him with wide, stunned eyes.
“Are you… trying to kidnap me?”
The leader waved his gun impatiently.
“Not trying to. In the van! Now!”
And to the three kidnappers absolute astonishment (as well as their driver’s, who was still seated behind the wheel) the kid threw his hands up in the air, joyfully whooped, and then sprinted, actually fucking sprinted, right by them to leap into the vehicle. A timeless second went by, as everyone was trying to process what had just happened. (Well, not everyone. Michelle and Ned were simply sending their friend completely unimpressed glares)
Then the teen leaned slightly out of the car.
“Look, I’m not trying to tell you how to do your job or anything, but maybe we should get going? You know, before someone calls the cops? Just saying.”
That seemed to rouse the masked men from their confusion and spurred them into action. Before the door slid shut behind the last one, Peter pinned his two friends with a very serious look.
“Don’t call him! At least not before six o'clock!”
The meeting was scheduled for 18:30, and he was supposed to be at the tower no later than 18:15. He would never make it! With that gleeful thought, Peter relaxed into the backseat and faced the group leader.
“Do you think we can make a quick stop at a drive-thru or something? I was actually on my way to lunch, you know?”
And then Ned and Michelle were left in the figurative dust, as they watched the van speed away, transporting their friend to who knows where.
The inherently more worried Ned turned to his female companion.
“Should we… like call the police? Or Mr. Stark? Or the other Avengers?”
Michelle scoffed.
“Calm down, Leeds. The loser can handle himself. Besides, our future employer has given us strict instructions to not call anyone and report what happened just yet. We will shoot Stark a text at six. It’s not like he won’t find his idiot son in a heartbeat. Until then, let’s go to that diner, I’m starving. I’m also gonna have to research some meditation exercises or something. My future self is going to need all the patience in the world if I’m expected to deal with this kind of bullshit every time I have to drag Peter to a meeting.”
“Pep, Pepsi to my Coke, Pepperoni on my pizza, love of my life! Why do I have to go to the board meeting?”
Pepper ignored her fiance’s whining, something she had tremendous experience with, and instead held up another tie against the man’s white shirt, comparing it to the maroon one in her other hand.
“Because you thought it would be a good idea to announce the heir of Stark Industries on live television. And now the board wants to meet Peter.”
Deciding on the maroon tie, she laid the other one over the back of a nearby chair. Tony huffed as Pepper expertly bound a Windsor knot.
“Exactly. They want to meet the kid. Not me. They know me! Everyone knows me! My name is on the building.”
Having finished with the tie, Pepper grabbed the dark suit jacket next.
“It’s your own fault. If you had waited to reveal Peter as the heir to the company until he finished college, like you were supposed to, you wouldn’t have to deal with this now.”
Tony shrugged the jacket on and tried to look as innocent as possible when he countered with “I had no choice! Ellen totally tricked me into it.”
The flat stare his fiance shot him spoke volumes. “She asked you what exciting new surprises the next Expo held in store for everyone.”
To which the billionaire waved his hand dismissively. “Semantics.”
Pepper rolled her eyes.
“It will be a good experience for Pete. He pretty much knows all about the inner workings and procedures in the labs, but he needs to get to know the business side of things, too.”
“Which is what he has you for. Why do I have to be there?”
She adjusted the jacket, righted the tie and gave him a quick kiss.
“As moral support. And to set a good example. Which means no playing on your phone, no snorting or groaning noises when you get bored, and no rolling your eyes when Henderson brings up project 99.”
Tony groaned. “Henderson always brings up project 99. The guy is like a broken record. It was a bad idea the first time he proposed it, and it continues to be a bad idea now. Why is he even still on the board?”
“Because he is six months away from retirement and we wouldn’t be so cruel as to demote or fire him before then. And now stop whining and get ready. The meeting starts in twenty five minutes and Peter should be here any moment now.”
With an overly dramatic sigh, the man let himself fall backwards onto their king sized bed. Much to the displeasure of Hope, who had curled up on one of the pillows to mope until his favorite human came back again. “Sorry buddy.” Tony scratched the dog behind his ears in apology. Then he looked forlornly at the ceiling. “Why is there never an alien invasion when you need one?”
Which was, naturally, the perfect moment for Friday to announce “Incoming Video call from 'Boss Junior’.”
Pepper crossed her arms under her chest. “Oh, he better not try to get out of this meeting.”
Tony’s line of thought was similar. “He better have a damn good excuse for getting out of this meeting.”
The vid-link opened via the towers holographic screens, and the couples eyes immediately focused on Peter. Who was sitting in a badly lit room, empty of all furniture save for the chair the teen was tied to (with what looked like completely normal rope, which they knew Peter could snap like silly string), and behind him a tall, well muscled man, dressed completely in black, donning a black ski mask, and a hand gun pointed right at Peter’s head.
Now, a sight like this would usually propel Tony right into heart attack territory, - if it wasn’t for the big ass grin on the kid’s face.
“Hi Tony! Hi Pepper! So, as you can see, I have been kidnapped.” (Under his breath, Tony couldn’t help but concede “Damn, that’s a good excuse.”) “It was completely unavoidable and absolutely against my own will.” (Pepper groaned. “Are you kidding me?”) “I mean, of course it was against my will! Because who in their right minds would jump into a van full of armed kidnappers, when they have an important meeting to attend later that same day? Certainly not me!” (“That clever little shit!”)
By that point Hope had recognized his owners voice and was crawling all over Tony to get a better look at the holo screen, barking happily. Peter’s whole face lit up at the sight of his dog.
“Hey Hope. Yes, I miss you too. Are you a good boy for Tony and Pepper?”
And as Peter cooed at his dog, Tony tried to not have his nose constantly slapped by a wildly wagging tail, and Pepper was burying her face into her hands, the looming, dark figure behind Peter apparently decided that he had been patient enough with his 'victim’, and slightly nudgded the teen’s shoulder. Peter looked up at the man with a sheepish grin.
“Sorry, dude. Anyway, I’m supposed to tell you that if you want me to be returned in one piece, you need to transfer one million dollars-” Then Peter turned back to the man behind him. “Are you sure you only want a million? Think about it. You need to split this up between the four of you, which is only 250000$ for everyone. And you will have to withdraw the money pretty much right away, otherwise Mr. Stark will be able to follow the money trail right to you. Also, you will want to leave the country pretty quickly after this, cause, you know, that’s Iron Man you are dealing with here. But with that much cash in your possession, you can’t use a commercial flight, cause they check your bags and stuff and 250 grand would probably raise a few eyebrows. Which leaves you with the only option of paying someone to get you out under the radar, and that probably won’t be cheap… Have you really thought this through?”
The man looked at Peter (his posture had lost it’s threatening stance long ago), then at the person who was obviously holding Peter’s phone to record the video, then at Peter again, and then he made the universal sign to 'end the call’ at the camera and with that, the feed cut off.
Friday’s helpful: “The video call has been cut off, boss.”, was followed by “You have also received a text message from 'The Scary One’, which reads: 'FYI, your idiot son has let himself get kidnapped in order to avoid shameful death on unicorn hair.’ - End message.”
And while Tony had no idea what the part about unicorn hair could possibly be about, he had long since learned not to ask questions.
Pepper did not have to look up to know that her fiance was sporting a downright gleeful look right then.
“So… looks like the Spiderling needs rescuing.” He was edging off his seat on the bed (having deposited Hope from his lap earlier) and had already taken off his tie and suit jacket. “What terrible, terrible timing. And here I was so looking forward to talking about project 99 with good old Henderson. Such a shame.” He was halfway across the room, the Iron Man armor already forming around him. “Oh well, can’t be helped. Gotta go save Pete from his evil kidnappers now. Fri, locate his watch, please. Thanks, girl. Guess we will have to postpone this whole business meeting introduction thingy. Gotta get going before the kid accidentally teaches these guys how to be real criminals. Love you, Pep. Have fun at the meeting! Bye!”
Then the sound of the opening of one of the large windows, followed by the thrusters of the suit, and before Pepper even had time to wave him off, Iron Man was flying through the New York sky.
For reasons Pepper was quite comfortable never to examine, she couldn’t help but laugh. “Like Father, like Son. Both running from meetings whenever they can and leaving me to deal with it.”
A warm, furry body cuddled into her legs and she smiled as she lovingly pet the Pit Bulls head.
“You know what? Screw it. Peter is going to sneak you into one of those meetings sooner or later anyway. (And I will get him to attend one, he can’t get himself kidnapped every time). Better to get the board used to you. And if they can’t meet their future boss, they will at least meet his dog. What do you say, Hope, do you want to go to a boring board meeting with me?”
Her answer was an excited bark and a lot of tail wagging.
“Good boy.”
The End
I wasn’t actually sure how to end this one. There was always the option of following Tony to the hide-out the kidnappers had Peter at, just for him to burst in and see Peter (free of any kind of restraints), sitting in a circle with his kidnappers (all of whom had divested themselves of their ski masks), and explaining to them various ways on how to better plan their next heist. Or how to make money without using illegal means. Or giving them advice on going back to school/getting their GED (-that is what it is called, right?), or how volunteering at an animal shelter might help them with their parole officer later on…
But then I thought, nah, leave that to the imagination of the readers, or refer to it in a later part of the series if you want.
As I said in the beginning, this was basically written just for the fun of it. Never the less, I would be happy to know if you liked/enjoyed it.
Thanks to everyone for reading!

Peter Parker x Reader
W.c: 2.5k
Warnings: none?
Summary: After a near-death experience you become friends with Spider-Man, You tell him everything, even your crush on your best friend Peter.
A/N: This is something small I wrote while listening to Dear Evan Hansen so enjoy?
___
“Peter, did you get the tickets?” You took a hold of the bar above your head and turned to your best friend.
“Yeah, yeah.” He holds the museum tickets to your face. “You have to trust me Y/N. I’m not the same irresponsible kid from middle school.” He whines while swinging around the subway bars.
You narrowed your eyes at him, he was always getting into trouble. How he survived without you? You never know. Peter went three years without your guidance while you lived in Rhode Island, but now you were back to your old ways. Always watching out for him. Always worrying. Which is why Aunt May loved when the two of you hung out. Peter would always be safe.
“So what exactly is our paper on?” Peter stops from swinging and leans over to rest on your shoulder.
“The transition of modern art after the-“
There was a screeching noise and suddenly you were on the floor. The subway was dark, only lit by phones trying to use the flashlight app. You scrambled to get up but the train jolted again. Something was going wrong, you couldn’t tell what though. As you looked around though you couldn’t find Peter.
“Peter! Peter Par-“
The train rocked back and forth while the smell of smoke filled the compartment. There was a fire, maybe a crash. You needed to find Peter though. Other riders rushed to leave, pushing or stepping on you as they ran. As you crawled on the floor you screamed your friend's name again, hoping his brown curls would appear. It was terrifying, not having the person you care most about in a situation like this. He can’t be dead right? You didn’t even get the chance to tell him you have a stupid crush on him.
“Miss! Miss!” A voice said through the yells.
You tried to ignore it but were suddenly whipped from the ground with a great amount of force. Suddenly you were in the arms of someone who felt…strange? It felt all too familiar, but you did not know this person. The smoke cleared up just enough for you to see the face of Spider-Man. Your heart stopped, the notorious hero you’ve dreamed of meeting was now saving you.
“My-my friend I can’t find him!” You cried and tried to leave his grip.
“No! No, he’s-he’s fine!” Spider-Man assures and shoots a web out the open train door. “He was helping people get out. We need to leave now!”
Spider-Man’s voice is slightly strained as if he was choking on the air. You took another scan of the train and you were the only one left. It seems like Peter ran for it, and forgot you. How could he do such a thing? Spider-Man takes a hold of your waist and propels the two of you to safety. The rest of the train passengers are being led by another masked hero towards the nearest underground exit. Spider-Man helps you meet the group, his focus is on you mainly.
“Are you alright? You seem upset?” The hero asks.
“My friend-“ You shake your head. Were you really going to divulge your feelings to a random superhero? “My friend, Peter, I’m just so mad. He left me behind, I could have died. And to think I…”
“You what?” He says quickly.
“I have a crush on the idiot! The same idiot who I had to pick out of trash cans when Flash would throw him in. And the times I’ve fixed his glasses- well he doesn’t wear them anymore…He’s not the same anymore.”
There’s an awkward silence followed by your statement. Peter isn’t the same as he was before you moved, he’s confident. He has this new air to him now like he’s a man who can handle his own problems. You don’t have to be his babysitter anymore. Which is great, but you wanted him to need you. If he didn’t need you, then what was the point of having you around? “Your friend saved a lot of people’s lives. He probably got caught up in the mess, maybe thought you got out first. Don’t be mad at him.” Spider-Man defends with a pitchy voice.
You come to a complete stop, forgetting the group of people coming to surface from the traumatic crash. There was no sight of Peter anywhere. Did he really not care? Spider-Man looks to you, his face softening somewhat behind that mask.
“You like your friend?” He asks again sheepishly. “Why haven’t you told him?”
“Because why chase something that won’t ever be?”
You paused and turned away from the masked man. It was true though. Why chase after Peter? He showed interest in Liz and MJ in ways he’d never shown towards you. He idolized them, but with you, he was normal old Peter. Dorky Peter who asks you to come over to watch Game of Thrones or to build Lego sets with Ned. Peter was your friend, nothing more. You turned back towards Spider-Man but he was gone.
“Y/N! Are you okay?” Someone else rushes to you and engulfs you in a hug.
Peter is stroking the back of your head while he tightens his grip around you. It feels like home in his arms so you melt right into it. But with a swat of your hand on his back, you’ve made your emotions clear. You were pissed. He left you behind.
“You’re lucky I’m feeling generous today,” You state. “And that Spider-Man saved our asses.”
“Yeah, Spider-Man. What a guy,”
-
You sat below the flickering light outside your window, head down and reading your notes.  The light only illuminated your reading sometimes, other times it went completely dark and you had to wait for the fuse to finally work. It had been like that since you moved back to Queens a year ago, and you didn’t bother to fix it. You let it be, let it flicker and die out, in hopes it will fix itself. For a while it was laziness, but now it was your calling card to your old friend Spider-Man.
There were no sirens for once which hopefully meant that your masked friend would visit you sooner. Your thoughts were burning to be let out and Spider-Man had become your trusted friend after that almost fatal train crash. He had somehow found your apartment one night, tapping on the glass to make sure you were alright after that event. Weeks later you’ve told him everything. Life in New York and Rhode Island, family, friends, even your deepest feelings about Peter. Spider-Man was your rock, he always knew exactly what to say.
“What are you working on?” The familiar voice asks above you.
You move your Spanish textbook to his usual side of the fire escape. He sits on the ledge, two churros in his hand, skimming the vocab. You pull one of the treats from his hand and starting eating it while he tries to pronounce the phrases.
“Me Gusta,” You say and point to the churro. “That’s all I got. How were patrols Spidey?”
“Usual stuff. Petty theft, helping cats out of trees, and this one lady left a birthday cake in a car so I helped her with that.”
A giggle escapes you. Although he has the ability for much more, he was truly the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He looked out for the little guy, which you appreciated. You connected with that. It had always been you to be looking out for others your whole life. It was all on you to save the day. Maybe that was why you got along so well with Spidey. He knew your struggles on a much larger scale.
“Sounds like a day,” Spidey moves back and forth on the ledge absent-mindedly. “Something on your mind?”
“Oh no, just thinking about…uh well,” His eyes focus and he spins around to look at you. “How’s the boy thing? What’s the name?”
“Peter. It’s alright. We partnered in Chemistry again. He’s always one step ahead of everybody I swear. The boy is a genius.”
The thought of Peter flamed your body. It was eating at you even since that train crash. That hug he trapped you in as a way of telling you he’s always there. But he wasn’t. He was always missing. You knew that Peter had a life other than you, but he wouldn’t talk about it. He never said what he was doing and where. You didn’t want to nag so you didn’t ask. It seemed like this crush was fleeting.
“I’m going to have to give up on it,” You sigh and drop your pencil. “He’s always so secretive and disappearing. I think he just doesn’t like being around me-“
“No! I mean, no way. I’m sure this Pete guy is just busy-“
“But if I was important he’d make time for me right? He’d come to see me once in a while, not just to ask for homework.” You hold up your phone that has zero messages on it. “He doesn’t even text me! This sounds stupid but I have a point, right?”
Spidey tenses up immediately. For once his big mouth is silent. He sits on the ledge facing you, legs crossed and scratching the back of his head. You wondered who was the face behind the mask you’ve been talking too. It had been eating at you as much at the Peter problem. This person knows all your darkest secrets but you’ve never seen his face.
“This Peter guy would be an idiot not to like you. Maybe he does do those things, you just never notice,”
You thought harder about the last few interactions with Peter. He was always showing off his glowing smile, the one that made you smile just as hard. Peter always invited you to anything, even his nights alone with Ned. Sometimes dinner with Aunt May. On the surface, it seemed like he really liked you, but the subtext wasn’t cutting it.
“He’s probably obsessed with that smile,” Spidey stands and uncomfortably moves his hands. “He might do things, stupid things, to make you laugh. Guys are dumb you know?”
“Maybe-“
“I bet he loves your sense of humor though. You can make anyone laugh.”
“Thanks Spidey,”
Your heart thumps in your chest, a smile breaking on your concrete face. You imagined all these things to be true, Peter was dying for your attention. God, that would make everything easier. It could be possible. Maybe, just maybe, Spidey was on to something.
“Peter probably loves to partner with you because he can sit close to you and look in your eyes…” He trails off and tries to regain composure. “Because, you know, he likes you and all,”
“Sounds like you’re the one with the crush,”
Spidey laughs a little too hard. He shrugs it off and crosses to your side of the fire escape. He’s nervous, shaking as he continues to work vomit different scenarios to you. He’s passionate about convincing you that Peter likes you.
“And that time you dyed your hair school colors for that Pep Rally? I bet he was lost for words-“
“How’d you know I dyed my hair?”
Spidey stops, freezes like a deer in headlights. He makes noises that sound like words but are incoherent. You stand up and face the masked man, gaging his height compared to yours. Spider-Man doesn’t turn away but you can basically hear his heart exploding in his chest.
“Spidey, have you been watching me for a while?”
“No! I just…Y/N, I…”
You grab the bottom of his mask and pull it off before he can finish defending himself. The fluffs of curls hit his face and you almost scream. Peter’s face is bright red as he tries to snatch the mask from your hands. You stumble back while Peter apologizes a million times.
“Y/N, no please don’t be angry! I didn’t-“
Before he’s done you pull him into the privacy of your bedroom, away from any nosey onlookers from the busy street below. Peter tries to muster up another apology but failing as his tongue is tied. You are still in shock. The person you confided in the most was your best friend. A mix of emotions consumed you, mainly anger and confusion.
“How long have you been Spider-Man?” Your voice is strangely calm.
“Since I was fourteen.”
“When were you going to tell me?”
“I was going to tell you! But after the train crash, it became difficult. You told me that you liked me, but I was Spider-Man and I’m sorry. I should have told you then. Y/N, please don’t be angry-“
You raise your hand to his face, signaling him to stop. As you take a seat on your bed you let out a low groan. It was going to take you a while to fully process this. The thumping in your chest was now in your head. This whole time you were trying to take care of Peter, save him,  but he was the greatest hero of all. He really didn’t need you smothering him all the time.
“Y/N, I know this might mean nothing but I like you. A lot. What I did was awful-“
“Peter-“
“But I swear that I was planning on telling you soon. I thought about it all night on patrol. I want you, but I probably ruined it with my stupidity. God, I’m such an idiot-“
“Peter-“
“You can be mad all you want okay? You can never talk to me again. I just want you to know that everything I said was true. I like you, maybe even love you-wait that’s too much-“
“Peter Parker!” You yell and grab his face. “Shut up. I like you, just give me time to process okay?”
“You’re not mad?”
He quirks an eyebrow while leaning towards you. His face is still smashed between your hands, emphasizing his squeezable cheeks. You nod your head slowly, dragging your hands down his face and resting them on his strong shoulders.
“Yes, but I understand…kinda.” You rub your hands his suit nervously. “I just know I still like you, even when you’re a bit of an idiot.”
Peter sighs in relief. His hands nervously rest on your hips, grabbing them with little to no force.
“So…can I kiss you?”
He’s giving you that grin, the same one you imagined before. You didn’t even respond, you allowed him to close that gap. The sweet taste from the sugar on the churro coated his lips, making him taste sweeter. Peter was just as timid as you expected, he pushed softly, moving his lips slowly and slipping his tongue across your bottom lip. He was anxious but respectful. Peter, even in his Spidey suit, was still Peter Parker.
“So, we’re good?” Peter says in a desperate exhale against your lips.
You hum against his red lips, his fingers trailing up your sides delicately.
“Give it time Parker,” You lean your forehead against his. “But maybe a trip to the Bodega will change my mind,”
He smirks, kissing you again with playful vigor. It was that flicker inside of you that finally stopped. That light was on. It was shining bright and was undeniable, Peter Parker was yours at last.
“Let’s call it a deal”

Full name: Peter Melchior Addams

Sexuality, gender, pronouns: Bisexual, Male, He/Him
Age and grade: 17, Senior
Faceclaim: David Mazouz
Appearance: (At least two paragraphs)
Personality: Pete’s personality fluctuates depends on who you ask. To strangers, he’s very foreboding. He has a flippant sense of self and a very nihilistic view of the world. He’s very assertive, not afraid to call someone out on their shit. He can be a bit confrontational, and a headstrong rebel. He’s generally very down in the dumps, as all the goth kids appear. Pete can be highly critical and judgmental of others, always making assumptions before he even gets to truly know them. He is extremely defensive. Pete is extremely short tempered, and gets easily annoyed. To those who happen to fall victim to this side, it’s hot and cold at the same time. He’ll yell as much as he can with his naturally soft spoken and raspy voice, but he’ll deliver a cold blow where it really hurts. His more cold side demonstrates a lack of empathy for other people, and will usually show no mercy for his enemies.
To his friends, however, they see a completely separate side of him. He’s sarcastic, and always ready with a quick quip and a sharp jab. He’s highly sensitive, and gets hurt extremely easily. He takes stuff to heart, although he tries to shield this beneath his cold exterior. He’s very poetical and philosophical, often reflecting on the nature of life itself. Protective by nature, he’s willing to fight and even kill for his friends. Nobody messes with them without hearing from Pete. Buried beneath all the Goth, he has an innate sense of optimism and wonder behind it all. He wants to believe life will get better, and tends to be the more ‘cheerful’ of the Goth kids. Being the least 'downer’. If that’s even possible. Pete is a leader, and is good at coming up with innovative ideas to solve problems. He’s incredibly resourceful, albeit a bit prideful. Although he’s not above putting aside his pride whenever a situation is dire enough. Pete is fairly good at persuasion, and although he may not be the most articulate he certainly can get a point across.
History:
Pete grew up in the poor part of town, in a rundown trailer. His parents were almost constantly working, leading him to have to do some less than legal things to survive. As Pete grew up, he’s still had a very very very slim sense of optimism that hasn’t gone away.
Even though it’s been buried beneath years of gothic culture. Pete from a young age has had to do many odd jobs to try and bring money to the household. Although it was never enough. He often went hungry, although he used this to fuel his poetry and become a literal 'starving artist’. Pete’s family doesn’t really care about him, leading him to become attached and find a surrogate family in the Goth Kids, whom he is still very close too.
He met Micheal in the first grade and Pete still considers him to be his closest friend and Henrietta became like a sister figure to him. Soon, Firkle became the little brother he never had. Pete didn’t have a happy childhood, but at least he had his friend to help him through it.
Sample paragraph: The music blared in the background as a raven haired male sat at a rickety kitchen table. The entire trailer was dark, only lit by candles. A few particularly big candles surrounded a thick black notebook with well worn pages, scrawled writing laid in it in cursive red and black script. The young man knew it was a bit dramatic, but he felt he wrote his best poetry under candlelight. The pen scratched at the page, as he allowed his haunted mind and tortured soul to flow onto the paper, letting his brain do the work.
His parents weren’t going to be home. They never were. Pete knew that they sometimes had so little time that they sometimes slept at work. He sighed and lit a cigarette, watching the smoke curl through the air, its tendrils creating bizarre patterns. The curling fumes and the flickering specks of light against the darkness of the trailer provided the inspiration the Goth needed to continue on with the next stanza. Candles symbolized hope, the smoke symbolized by products of hope. A pair of fingers pinching out the flames symbolized society. Pete gave a tiny smile as he wrote, this would be his best piece yet.
Headcanons:
-He’s very good at coming up with creative insults. He can tailor an insult to fit a persons personality, looks or outlook on life and use it right where it hurts.
-His voice is incredibly raspy from all the years of smoking.
-He had a brief crush on Stan in like, middle school, but that’s long gone.
-Pete’s 'non goth’ interest is Disney.
-He doesn’t want to go to college, instead he wants to become an author.
-He doesn’t like Edgar Allen Poe anymore, he’s still salty over the events of the reality tv show.
-He enjoys playing guitar
-Pete is incredibly good with makeup, he’s proud of it as well.
-He drinks so much fucking coffee, this poor baby has an addiction.
-He’s fond of dogs and flowers, as shown from the deleted scene.

summary → there has never been a moment where peter’s words haven’t failed him whilst basking in your presence, so why should they form coherent sentences now?
word count → 3.5k
author’s note → did you guys forget that i write because honestly me 2
Be it totally and completely out of the blue, you awaken one bright, blazing Tuesday morning in early November, brisk chill whipping through the air, and decide that later that night, when you see him somewhere that isn’t so public and academic like, you’re going to kiss Peter Benjamin Parker.
You’re not quite sure what brings it on, perhaps you should just leave it to the raging teenage hormones that the doctors and psychologists and guidance counselors blame everything on, but another part of you understands that this longing, yearning, to let yourself fall in love with your best friend is something far from foreign or new. This loving feels familiar to you, like coming back home after vacations far away and far too long, and it’s warmth in the way that burrowing under your blankets when the chill settles into your bones is. Boys like Peter demand to be adored, and they demand to be kissed as if never before. You’d be damned if you let such prime opportunities escape your grasp, or rather, your lips.
The hours in school glide by, which was, admittedly, utterly surprising. Typically, when you’re anticipating something later in the day, any hours before the event that is to transpire drag on as if you’re not impatient, as if you can wait all day without a complaint. But suddenly it’s last period, then two-thirty rolls around and you’re bounding over to your locker where your best friend awaits you, rocking slightly on the heels of his feet the way he has a tendency to do when he’s overexcited. This motion is arguably the most adorable thing you’ve ever seen. Then again, anything Peter does, the simplest actions that bear no real relevancy, is something that you mark down in your head as the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.
Peter glances around the halls, unable to see you through the mounds of students rushing hurriedly past him in order to relieve themselves of academia for the day as soon as possible. He pulls down the cuff of his sweater over his hands, then rethinks this and pushes them back up to his elbows. Blue looks nice on him. There are just these little things you tend to notice about him, silly things that only a person in love would pick up, and these tiny details, like the way the light catches in his eyes and the smiles he saves for certain people, make your heart bright and happy and whisper lovingly to him in a voice he can’t hear. The crowd disperses considerably enough, and you manage to fight your way through the remaining throng of people loitering in the hallway for no real reason- beyond frustrating, you think, but then Peter catches your eye and his already happy demeanor increases tenfold. With a beam that practically stretches out and reaches into your heart, seizing it carefully and determinedly, Peter ambles toward you, trying to appear more relaxed than he felt, and pushes himself into your personal space, as usual, by wrapping his arm around your shoulders and pulling you into him.
“You’re in a good mood,” you note, because at this point in your relationship there’s no need for formal greetings, as he parades you out of the building after letting go of you long enough to allow you to gear up for the cold sweeping through the borough outside the walls of Midtown. He casts a glance your way, sideways but still joyous, then shrugs, nonchalant. “You’re just so happy to see me, aren’t you, Pete?”
You’re half joking and not expecting much until Peter gives you a little look, head tilted to the side and his eyebrows furrowed slightly like he can’t believe the question is something you don’t know the answer to. He gives your shoulder a squeeze. “You should know the answer to that by now!” He exclaims, mock disappointment in the head shake he gives you. “The answer is yes. We see each other for, like, two seconds at a lunch all day and that’s it. I’m deprived. I miss you.”
“We’re together right now,” you laugh, nudging into his side.
“Not enough. I see Ned twenty-four-seven, I need both of my best friends with me all day every day if I’m gonna survive the next two and a half years of high school.” Your heart sort of twitches again, your palms feel warm. He has that influence over you. Love is such a strange thing sometimes, impossible to decipher or make sense of, and then other times it feels like the simplest emotion in the world, easy and steady and everything. You’ll never know what to make of it. “I just miss you, okay? Don’t make a big deal out of it,” he jokes, rubbing your shoulder for a second before letting his hand dangle across the edge of your shoulder. You reach up to intertwine your fingers with his, the way you have millions of times before in the same seemingly intimate way, pretending as if you don’t know the sweet grin that the gesture elicits from him, staring adoringly at the profile of your face like he couldn’t possibly get enough of the view.
“Aw,” you coo, pinching his cheek with the hand that wasn’t holding his. Peter flinches away, his eyes squeezing shut and his cheeks pink. “I missed you, too, Pete. So, where are we off to today? Can we go traipse around SoHo? We haven’t been in ages and oh! Look, I see the A train, it’s on every corner, let’s go.” Before he realizes it, he’s being dragged down toward the steps of the subway, his complaints about constantly getting lost there falling upon deaf ears.
Much more than a mere few hours later, Peter is shaking his head as you laugh hysterically down the block leading to your apartment building. He has a feigned look of annoyance on his face as you talk, exaggeratedly rolling his eyes. “C’mon, Peter, we didn’t get lost that bad this time. Seriously, we made it to Union Square, which was right by the R train, then we took it to the mall and hopped on the M which we took to the F, ridiculously simple!” You exclaim, taking a sip from your bottle of water. “You’re acting as if we, like, walked around in a  circle for an hour.”
“Because that’s exactly what we did!” He replies, playfully punching you in the arm, but with a carefully light touch. Peter is, and has always been ever since it became a pressing issue, terribly aware of his enhanced strength and senses. He’s so nervous about accidentally hurting you when his intentions were to be playful that he does everything with extra caution now, barely letting himself touch you most of the time or even give a gentle squeeze of your hand. “We did walk in a a circle for an hour! And your phone died while you were trying to use Google Maps, it was pouring rain, you got so cold I had to give you my jacket which made me cold-”
You interrupt him, “No one said you had to give me your jacket!”
He continues on his rant, pretending as if you haven’t spoken even though the smirk twitching at the corners of his lips beg to differ- “we couldn’t figure out where we were which is stupid since we’re supposed to be New Yorkers, then finally I said to just keep walking straight, which we did until we found Union Square due to pure dumb luck.” Peter watches you throw your head back and laugh, high in sound and utterly happy, and he shoves his hands deep in his pockets, a stupidly thrilled grin on his face, too. He hated that he couldn’t stop grinning; it was ridiculous and it hurt his cheeks and made his eyes squint so hard they ached once he was finally able to let his mouth rest. Oh, how his heart couldn’t stop hammering! He was so nervous he could hardly think straight. Peter Parker was drowning, suffocating, choking on these emotions that had been so far buried deep, deep within the recesses of his heart that he hardly knew what to do with them now that they were drifting to the surface like leaves on a pond.
You can feel his eyes on you, the soft and sweet, carefully watching gaze of Peter, and so you take the moment for your own. You’re standing in front of the door to the apartment building when you whip around toward him, and he goes in for the hug like he knows what you’re planning to do. Instead, you lean up, take his face in your hands and you note how cold his cheeks are as you avoid his surprised gaze. Then, you’re kissing him. You are kissing Peter Parker in the way you’ve never kissed anyone before; it’s hesitant, over too fast like it never even happened, but you kissed him and he knows you’ve just kissed him, but the thoughts flipping through his brain and the way his stomach is clenching doesn’t allow him to form coherent sentences that you can hear and comprehend.
Instead of kissing you again, instead of lifting you up in his arms and spinning you around the street and singing like a madman because the person of his dreams seems to want him right back, he stutters for five seconds. The only words that he can manage to say are, “Thank you,” before he turns back around and quite literally sprints down the block to his own apartment.
When he gets home he collapses on his bed, grunting a hello to May before he shoves his pillow over his face and screams into it, unabashed screaming that he drags out for two minutes. He pulls back, red cheeked and panting. He immediately rolls over to call Ned, begging him to come over immediately and no, Ned, he doesn’t care about the comic you’re in the middle of reading because this is an emergency damn it!
“You said thank you?” Ned says incredulously, thirty minutes later and trying not to burst into hysterics after what his best friend had just relayed to him. He can’t help himself, and as Peter hugs his pillow to his chest with a look similar to that of someone who is experiencing severe indigestion, Ned wheezes out a laugh held in for so long that it just goes on forever. Peter buries his face in the plush, comforting fabric, emitting a groan that continues for as long as Ned cackles. “Dude, you’re a mess. I can’t believe you said thank you. Who says thank you after being kissed? For the first time? By someone you’ve been dying to kiss for the past, like, three years?” Ned is practically crying by the time Peter  launches his pillow at his so called best friend, resting his fists against his cheeks and letting a pout befall his lips.
“Ned,” Peter whines, brown eyes pleading. “I need help. I said thank you! I hate myself, I shouldn’t be allowed to be kissed ever again. I’m… I’m so stupid. I said thank you! To Y/N! Y/N! Of all people! Thank you! Thank you.” He repeats the phrase with a sad, small shake of his head and lies back down on his bed. Ned stretches out across the top bunk, Peter can hear the old bed creak, and they both let out a sigh. “What should I do, man? Do you think Y/N hates me?”
Ned is quiet for a moment. “Right now? Y/N definitely hates you right now. I’m not even saying that to be mean, I’m saying that as your best friend. You said thank you.”
“I know,” he says, miserable and pathetic and contemplating what sort of injuries he might hypothetically sustain if he attempted a backflip off the edge of the Empire State Building.
“He said thank you?” Michelle Jones doesn’t even bother to wait, to even offer a dash of fake but well meant sympathy, before she erupts into hysterics, laughing so terribly hard that she nearly rolls off your twin bed. You stare at her, stone faced, unamused, as she continues her awful wheezing laughter that she has no intention of halting any time soon. “Oh my god, oh my god, I have to-” MJ abruptly stands up, stifling her laughter behind her hand as she leaves your bedroom, then closes the door behind her and starts laughing again. It’s loud, practically deafening, mostly because the laughter feels so mocking and smothering in lieu of recent events that had occurred less than an hour ago. You sigh, hugging your pillow even tighter to your chest as you wait for your so called best friend to return from her stint in the hallway.
“Oh, are you done now? Thanks,” you snap, shifting over on the bed to make room for her to clamor back on. “I can’t believe you. I’m having a crisis and you leave to go laugh at me in the hallway. What sort of friend are you, MJ?”
She shrugs, the ghost of a hilariously mocking grin still playing at her mouth. “The friend who tells it like it is.”
You huff, lying down on the bed and staring up at the glow in the dark stars you had stuck up there when you were fourteen, the July before you started high school. You put them up with Peter, and it was late and hot and your palms were sticky with sweat that sometimes wonder was due to the heat of the summer or the boy sitting next to you in your room, on your tiny bed, rambling on about the rings that Jupiter had, because yes Jupiter has rings, and the reasons as to why stars emit light. Peter was always there, never wavering in his loyalties, your most beloved friend, the boy who promised over and over again that he’d be there for you no matter what. He was Peter, and you loved Peter, and if Peter didn’t love you back that would be just fine- you just wanted to know sooner rather than later. “What should I do? Is he, like, repulsed by me? Why would you let me kiss him, Michelle?”
“Uh, excuse me, I didn’t even know you were planning on planting a big one on Peter Parker, so any blame cast on me is henceforth cancelled. Got that? Good,” Michelle brushes her hair out of her eyes, that intense look appearing on her already intense face. “First of all, that loser is physically incapable of being repulsed by you. I’m just telling you that right now before you go off on a stupid tangent about whether or not he hates you. That’s final. Next, he’s never been kissed before! He was definitely overwhelmed, probably freaking out inside, didn’t know what to do, and that was the first thing that popped into his head and he ran with it and then he ran away. Understandable. Finally, boys are just stupid. All of them. They’re all complete morons, and-”
“Okay, Michelle, the idiotic tendencies of people who identify as a male is a riveting debate that we enjoy quite frequently, but tonight I think I’m done talking boys. I’m going to just… let things happen as they should? If Peter likes me, he’ll tell me, and that’ll be that. I just won’t bring up the kiss. I’ll pretend like it didn’t happen.” With a satisfied nod, MJ pats your head, then, for a split second, snorts under her breath again.
She holds her hands up defensively, exclaiming, “He still said thank you! He’s never living this shit down!”
The next day at school, Peter is prepared and ready for the conversation he anticipates is going to happen. He is ready to be understanding if you yell at him for being a complete and utter ass after you kissed him, he’s ready to spill his bottled up feelings all over the linoleum floor if that’s what it takes for you to believe that the kiss was the best thing he’s ever experienced, ever would experience, and he’s ready for the beginning of everything he’s ever dreamt of, but none of that comes. At least, not immediately, not in the way he expected.
The boy has always thought himself a patient person, but in the months that have passed he’s realized that under no circumstances is he okay with waiting. He’s impatient and annoyed at everyone and everything that comes his way that isn’t you, and then he’s annoyed at you for not appearing to him and acknowledging that you kissed him on the front steps of your apartment building with a fervor that could only be identified as the crashing, burning, raging, bursting power of pent up emotion. He knows he has hardly any classes with you, so there’s no conceivable way you could have an in depth discussion of your relationship status as of this very moment, but still. He’d appreciate a gesture of some kind. And then, after this thought pops into his head, he wonders if he should be the one to make the gesture.
Prompt with following his instincts, he sets off to find you before you can avoid him at lunch like he knows you will. He stands by your locker, leaning against the cool metal frame, waiting for you to make an appearance. He sees you first, and by now this is simply rote for him. You don’t have time to even attempt to duck out of his way; Peter is determined, stubborn, and he won’t lose out on his chance by allowing you to go on ignoring him. Even if you don’t want a relationship, a decision he’ll respect wholeheartedly, he flat out refuses to even entertain the idea of no longer having you as his best friend, as his other kind of love. He takes your hand, silent begging scrawled across the weakened, anxious smile he gives you. He leads you toward the front of the school, around a bend of empty lockers, and takes a step back.
Neither of you really look at each other until he says, unexpectedly, “You kissed me!” It’s almost accusatory, the way he says it, and, affronted, you look back up at him in alarm.
“And you said thank you!” You retort, eyes narrowed. “Who says that!” The entire reason you’ve been avoiding him was to avoid this discussion. It was making you feel feverish. Peter had always made you nervous, it was painfully obvious, but this was so much different than just incessant butterflies in your stomach. This was a post-kiss conversation, and you hardly knew what to say to him other than repeating the previous query of, “Seriously, who tells someone thank you after they’ve just kissed you!”
The question is rhetorical, so he ignores it. That, and because he’s already embarrassed enough by his tactless reply. He waves his hands around aggressively. “I know! I know I did! I didn’t mean to! You scared me!”
   “Wow, thanks.”
“I didn’t mean it like that! You’re not scary, you’re like a baby deer, a fawn, you’re so cute and non-intimidating, I didn’t mean that you were scary I meant that I’ve never been kissed and being kissed by the person you have a crush on is a scary thing especially when it comes out of nowhere so I’m sorry that I said thank you but I just didn’t- my brain doesn’t work sometimes, okay!” Peter runs his hands through his hair. One curl flips down, curling over his forehead in a stupidly cute way.
“Peter, you literally drive me up the wall, sometimes.” You shake your head, give a sigh, take two steps forward so that you’re so much closer to him than you were before even though two steps shouldn’t feel like you’re closing the widest gap in history. “Should I not have kissed you?”
His pretty brown eyes go wide. “Did you not hear the part where I called you cute? And the part where I said I have a crush on you? Do you have selective hearing? Work with me here,” he pleads, taking holding of your shoulders and giving the gentlest shake he can manage.
“So, kissing is a yes, then?” You press, just to make sure, just to tease him a little because you can see the way he grows more and more flustered each time you act like you have no idea what he’s talking about. He closes his eyes. There’s a deep inhalation while you stand there waiting for him, and when he kisses you, you’re the one taken by surprise, hands frozen in midair as he lets his lips move from yours in this painfully slow way you’re almost sure he’s taunting you with. You open your mouth to speak, but he beats you to the punch.
“I swear, if you ruin this moment and say it-”
  “Thank you, Peter.”
“I think we’re going to have to break up before we’re even together. You blew it, Y/N. Good work.”
“Aw, c’mon! It’ll be our thing.”
  “No.”

The Weekend Warrior’s January 2021 Preview
Happy New Year!
So we’re gonna do things a little different this month. If it works out, I might do this as a regular thing until I feel comfortable writing about box office on a weekly basis again. It may be a long while. As you’ll see, this is a fairly comprehensive preview of the month ahead, as it stands on the first day of posting this, which hopefully is Wednesday, January 6.
I will be updating this post regularly with reviews and any date changes, etc.  If you want to keep track of which movies I’ve reviewed, your best option is to bookmark my Rotten Tomatoes page, since more than likely, any new reviews will be added there at the same time they’re posted here.
Why do I have this bad feeling that doing the column this way is just gonna give me more work? (I was correct. Instead of writing about 6 movies every single week, I ended up writing about nearly 30 movies in one week.)
What’s surprising is that there are far fewer wide releases in January than any previous year, as I only count two or three in total. That’s not good.

It’s based on Higashida’s revelations as a 13-year-old boy suffering dealing with autism blended with portraits of five other young people with autism.
Quick Thoughts:  I haven’t read Higashida’s book or its English translation, but it makes a beautiful and lyrical  accompaniment, as narrated by Jordan O’Donegan, for this look inside the life of a number of young autistic people, as their parents talk about trying to help their children without fully understanding what they’re going through. In many ways, this doc may offer some of the best insights into what it’s like to be autistic or dealing with an autistic family member in order to create some much-needed empathy for a condition so many face. The film is haunting and even horrifying at times, but it’s beautifully filmed to create a fully immersive experience.
REDEMPTION DAY (Saban Films) Hicham Hajji’s action thriller stars Gary Dourdan (CSI) as U.S. Marine Captain Brad Paxton whose wife Kate (Serinda Swan) is kidnapped by a terrorist group while working in Morocco, which forces him back into action to save the woman he loves. It also stars Andy Garcia, Ernie Hudson and Martin Donovan, and it will get a limited theatrical release and be available on Tuesday, Jan. 12, On Demand and Digital.
Quick Thoughts: While Hajji seems to bring some authenticity to this Mideast revenge thriller, the film starts out as a tribute to our fighting troops but then soon turns ridiculous, first with the kidnapping of his wife less than 24 hours after going to Morocco, and then some of the politics involved with helping her. Eventually, Dourdan goes in guns a-blazin’ in a way more apt for a movie from the ‘90s, and Hajji undoes a lot of the good will the film would have received if things were handled even somewhat tastefully.  Appearances by better-known actors like Garcia, Hudson and Donovan tends to distract from the story more than adding or enhancing what was already a problematic premise.
IF NOT NOW, WHEN? (Vertical) Actors Meagan Good and Tamara Bass make their directorial debuts with this movie about four high school friends (Good and Bass are two of them, presumably) who are brought back together to help one of them during a crisis. From the official summary: “It’s a story of love, forgiveness and the incredible bond between women.)
Digital/On Demand:
STARS FELL ON ALABAMA (Samuel Goldwyn Films) V.W. Scheich’s romantic comedy stars James Maslow as successful Hollywood agent Bryce Dixon who returns to Alabama after 15 years for his high school reunion, only to learn that he is one of his few friends not married with children, so he pretends his client Madison Belle, to pretend to be his girlfriend. American Idol winner Taylor Hicks appears in the movie as himself.

WORTH WATCHING!
PRETEND IT’S A CITY (Netflix) No less than Martin Scorsese directs this 7-part limited series about his long-time friend, critic and essayist Fran Lebowitz, as they explore New York City, presumably pre-pandemic. As someone who is celebrating my 34th year in New York City this week, I absolutely loved the series. Lebowitz is absolutely hilarious and Scorsese really pulls some amazing stories from out of her in this series that’s like a “how-to” for anyone who might ever want to live here. A truly joyful albeit crotchety take on New York living, which is the perfect combination to keep this series entertaining.

Digital/VOD: SKYFIRE (ScreenMedia) The Simon-West directed thriller is set on the Tianhuo Island in a Pacific Rim volcanic belt where a young scientist (Hannah Quinlivan), who has invented a volcanic warning system, returns to prevent more death only to find that it’s been turned into a volcano theme park by Jason Isaacs. Okay, then. This will available On Demand.
THE BID (GVN Releasing) Marquis Boone’s directorial debut has him and co-writer Richard Harris (not that one) playing Philadelphia rappers who get framed by a police officer who sends them to prison to fight the prison system from the inside. As I started that last sentence, I presumed it was a comedy until I got to the last half of it.
CURSE OF AURORE (Freestyle Digital Releasing) Mehran C. Torgoley’s horror film is about a “Dark Web” thumb drive found by a YouTuber that involves a trio of American filmmakers including Liana Barron’s Lena, who are in Quebec researching the true crime case of a young girl named Aurore Gagnon, murdered in 1920 by her parents in a case of child abuse. As the filmmakers investigate the place where she was killed, they experience paranormal occurrences… and yes, it’s 2021 an we’re still getting Blair Witch Project “homages.”
GO/DON’T GO (Gravitas Ventures) Alex Knapp writes/directs and stars in this “psychosexual thriller” in which he plays the sole survivor after an unknown cataclysm with visons of his best friend Kyle (Nore Davis) introducing him to Olivia Luccardi’s Kay, the love of his life. It will be out via digital and cable VOD platforms.

It stars Lucie Debay as Eve, who becomes the target of a misogynistic plot against two men who pursue her through the forest where she’s forced to survive. From the synopsis: “But survival isn’t enough for Eve. She will have revenge!” (Okay, that exclamation point is my own. Definitely sounds like something that would require one.)

THE MARKSMAN (Briarcliff/Open Road) (NEW REVIEW!) Liam Neeson stars in his second theatrical release in the past six months, Robert (Trouble with the Curve) Lorenz’s action-thriller in which Neeson plays a rancher on the Arizona border who ends up defending a young Mexican boy who is trying to escape from cartel assassins that followed him into the States. I haven’t seen this yet, nor do I know if I’ll have a chance. I’m guessing this is being released as a typical January release and not as an awards contender with the Oscar deadline pushed back to February 28.
Mini-Review:  Here we’re into a brand new year, and yet, we’re getting the third movie about an old man watching over a young child. This time it’s Liam Neeson as Vietnam sniper Jim Henson, who is living on his ranch in an Arizona border town with his dog Jackson with financial problems that might take his home away from him. A chance encounter on the border when Jim witnesses a single mother with her son being chased by the cartel, leaves the mother dead and the young, Miguel (Jacob Perez), in danger of being next. Jim decides to take the boy across the country to his family in Chicago, chased the entire way by the cartel.
While The Marksman attempts to create a topical action-thriller, it isn’t one that necessarily feels very timely, only because we’ve seen so many border-set movies over the past few years, maybe for obvious reasons. Director Robert Lorenz is a long-time Clint Eastwood collaborator, both as producer and assistant-director, and you probably will notice a number of similar stylistic flares in common –  you also can totally see Eastwood playing the Neeson role if he was twenty years younger.
The movie comes across more like last year’s Let Him Go rather than Neeson’s own 2020 movie, Honest Thief, and maybe that’s for the better since this seems to be better suited for his specialized skills, both in terms of action and drama.  Not that there is a ton of action in the movie, but the few shootouts and chases are decent enough, but nothing too insane. I’m sure ultra-liberals might have issues with certain scenes like how easy it is for Jim to buy a gun or teaching the young Miguel to use one, but that just seems creating an unnecessary political overlay.
While the majority of the film is Jim and Miguel on this road trip, there’s a nice role for Katheryn Winnick as Jim’s border police—well, it’s never really clear if she’s his daughter or not--but otherwise, the Mexican actors are not particularly good compared to Neeson – sadly, very stereotypical – and the writing is probably on the weaker side compared to the score by Sean Callery that goes a long way towards enhancing the emotions and tension when needed.
The Marksman is a decent enough dramatic thriller that feels a little by-the-books but gains enough humanity from Neeson’s performance to make it a worthwhile watch.
Rating: 7/10
THE DIG (Netflix) Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes star in this drama that takes place just before WWII with Mulligan playing a wealthy widow wo hires Fiennes’ archeologist to excavate the burial mounds on her estate in which they make a historic discovery. I like when movie titles are very literal like this one. Will be released to select cinemas before its Netflix debut on January 29.
MLK/FBI (IFC Films) Sam Pollack’s doc that’s had a successful festival run will get a small limited run as well as be available On Demand today. As the title implies, it studies the FBI’s attempts to discredit Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as his movement towards the Civil Rights Act continues to gain momentum. I didn’t like this as much as a few of Pollack’s other docs, including the recent Two Train Runnin’ and his co-directed doc, Mr Soul!

SOME KIND OF HEAVEN (Magnolia Pictures)
Lance Oppenheim’s first feature doc, co-produced by Darren Aronofsky, looks at the largest retirement community in America, the Villages in Central Florida, where a few residents are unable to find happiness despite the community’s pre-packaged paradise.
Quick Thoughts: This was a very different movie than I was expecting, since at first it seemed to thrive on the quirky personalities of the resident and their party-centric activities, but it then quickly focuses on three very particular cases, an elderly man named Dennis who is living in his van on the site of the Villages, trying to find himself a relationship (hopefully one with money). There’s also a couple who has been married for 47 years with a woman who has to deal with her husband’s ever-increasing eccentric behavior that involves drugs and troubles with the law. Lastly, there’s a widow who is trying to find happiness and companionship in the Villages, which is a particularly lonely experience as she goes from one group or club to another. All three of these stories keep the viewer invested but especially Oppenheim’s look at loneliness of people in that age group, which made it impossible for me not to think of my mother who has been suffering through the loneliness of the pandemic and not being able to be around other people her own age because of it. A terrifically insightful film that makes you think and hard about your own aging and mortality.
FLINCH (Ardor Pictures) Camron Van Hoy’s crime-thriller stars Daniel Zovatto as a young hitman who lives with his mother (Cathy Moriarty) who falls in love with a girl (Tilda Cobham-Hervey) who sees him kill someone. Since he can’t kill her, he instead brings her home and learns there’s more to her than he thought. This will ALSO be on TVOD starting on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
ACASA MY HOME (Zeitgeist, Kino Lorber) Romanian filmmaker Radu Ciorniciuc’s directorial debut doc, which premiered at Sundance last year (receiving an award for its cinematography), about the Enache family who lives in harmony with nature in the wilderness of the Bucharest Delta. When the area is turned into a public national park, they’re forced to move to the city where things are very different. It will open in select cities and via virtual cinema.
GOODBYE, BUTTERFLY (Gravitas Ventures) Tyler Wayne’s directorial debut is this crime thriller starring Adam Donshik (House of Cards) as Ryan Olsen, a family man whose five-year-old daughter is murdered, but with no leads, Ryan starts suspecting his oddball neighbor Stan (Andy Lauer), so Ryan takes the law into his own hands. This is getting day and date theatrical with TVOD (no idea what that is) and digital.

AMERICAN SKIN Nate Parker’s second film as a director following the Sundance Prize-winning Birth of a Nation has him starring as a Marine veteran working as a school janitor who tries to fix things with his son, who is killed by a police officer who isn’t even put to trial for the death so he takes matters in his own hand. The drama also stars Omari Hardwick and will be available on iTunes and other VOD platforms.
Two of my favorite movies of 2020, Emmerald Fennell’s Promising Young Woman (Focus Features), starring Carey Mulligan, and Paul Greengrass’ News of the World (Universal), starring Tom Hanks, will be available starting today via PVOD, rentable for 48-Hour rental. These both should be in the Oscar race, so don’t miss them!
Virtual Cinema:
TRIBUTE TO SAM POLLARD Film at Lincoln Center is running a one-week retrospective to editor, producer and director Sam Pollard to tie in with the release by IFC Films of MLK/FBI, which played at the New York Film Festival last year. Hopefully, there will be a line-up as it gets closer to the series start, and I’ll add that when it becomes available.
FILM ABOUT A FATHER WHO (Cinema Guild) Over a period of 35 years between 1984 and 2019, Lynne Sachs used various media, including 8 and 16mm film, videotape and digital images to capture a portrait of her father, Ira Sachs Sr, a Park Cit, Utah businessman, in order to understand the web that connects a child to her parents and a sister to her siblings. STALLONE... FRANK, THAT IS (Branded Studio) Derek Wayne Johnson’s documentary takes an in-depth look into the life and career of Frank Stallone, the younger brother of the far-more-famous Sylvester Stallone, whose own four decade career has earned him three Platinum Albums, ten Gold Albums and five Gold Singles… which is odd, since I don’t think I could name a single one of his songs. He’s also done soundtracks for many of his brother’s films including The Expendables 2, the first three Rocky movies, Rambo II and more and appeared in 75 films and TV shows. Obviously, I’ll need to watch this doc to learn more about him.

Hello. 2017 was my “re-boot” year as I like to call it. I’ve grown a lot privately and quietly. I had scenes worthy of a three-minute standing ovation, but they are mostly mundane ones deserving a personal recognition of none other than myself. I see life through a more beautiful lens now. Change has transpired all throughout the year, but I’ve never been so glad that it did. This is a post on how 2017 changed me in ways that left me equally awed and grateful; and to 2018 me, hey, we’re gonna make this story legendary.
2017
I told myself that I want to be someone “normal” this year.
I hope you won’t crucify me for this but I felt like I was on a roll during my junior- senior high school years. Although I don’t usually like to talk about it but in all humility, I joined a lot of contests during those times, won a whole bunch of them and also lost a whole lot more. Some people don’t know about this because I like to keep my achievements in private and share the victory with my own little circle. I bagged awards in various fields, it came to a point where I won recognition in the Regional, National, and even International sphere. I earned seats in major organizations and had a chance to be with the big-shots in the academic arena of the Philippines.
Such a bragger huh, but trust me, that would be the last of my intention. It was necessary for making people understand how I was at a peak of my high-school years.
You might think that I’m so lucky, but am I really?
SILVER LININGS
I pride myself on being one who doesn’t fear failure. If I remember it correctly it was my “Introduce yourself description” on my first day of class in Grade 11. I told everyone that success is just failure turned inside out, the silver linings in the clouds of doubt. But, I lied.
It’s exhausting to fail over and over again. Of course, it’s vindicating to finally achieve the things that you’ve been working for, but the process it takes you to get there is “consuming” at the very least. I had to cry a lot of times and I spent tears on people who repeatedly threw stones at me claiming that they only want to leave me unscathed and at my very best. It became really stressful for me, and I felt l was alive with rage towards so many people. That was never what I wanted.
It was during those times that I decided to just pause and let go. I wanted to seek genuine happiness and I know deep down in my bones that I had to sacrifice a lot of things, and it includes me being a student on top of multiple awarding ceremonies at once. I wanted to become a student of life.
HUMSS
Paulo Coelho said that once you want something the whole universe conspires to help you reach it.
Interestingly enough on the road to my mission of redefining my self, I met people who altered my perception on what it is to become “normal”.
You see, at first glance my classmates at HUMSS, seem normal, the low-keys, the ones you don’t see dancing at parties with that popular kids type of swagger vibes. They won’t be the ones leading parades and have loud conversations to make people pay attention. They’re the HUMSS for pete’s sake.
Normal to them is laying on our self-bought banig during lunch and class breaks. Normal to them is taking portraits on a rice-field or on mountains or on grassy places or on pebbled beaches. Normal to them is swearing. Normal to them is laughing at dirty green jokes that only us would dare to laugh at. Normal to them is that, just being themselves. And I loved that.
There are people in our classroom who are nothing short of amazing even when they’re “normal”. (1) I have a friend who’s exceptionally good at drawing, she’s well known for that, but what most people don’t know is that she’s also darn good with words, she reads a LOT of books, she threads them into this intricate pattern of hearty prose and texts. She ones wrote me a letter, a passage she got from a Greek or was that Roman Mythology? She said that she knew that I would love a good read, and boy was she right. It made me think of all the words inside her heart and how beautiful they might be. (2) At the first day of class in Grade 11, I met this girl who showed me how it was like to be strong and soft at the same time. This one fancies wearing dark lipstick and sings to songs that are rapped and has amazing and funny beats. One time, she showed me her collection of poetry, ones that she wrote by herself, it was typed on her old phone. Do you sometimes wonder why people are so fiercely strong? Maybe it was because they were once soft and some nights they were broken and they needed to be strong because if they won’t then who else will. I think that girl is soft both on the inside and on the outside, and stronger. Always stronger. (3) This boy likes Philosophy. He talks about things that almost no one talks about. What you don’t know about this boy tho is that he’s darker than most of us. He thrives on wisdom and knowledge. He is erudite, and he’s constantly hungry for more, more of everything. This is what makes him dangerous. I hope along the way he doesn’t lose himself. I hope he seeks and finds his heart’s truest deepest desires. I hope he lives well, honestly truly completely well.
(4) A girl cried during our Christmas Party. Ironically, she smiled all throughout the day and only cried at the end. I wonder the strength it must have took to hold everything in. Maybe it was the vodka? But I know better, I know that this kid travels almost more than 10 kms. to school every day, and I also know that she helps her family by selling all kinds of snacks, and I also know that she has been through a lot and still, smiles. Maybe the vodka was a good idea. Maybe, sometimes we can just pour everything out, because oh gad who knows what might happen if we don’t. I want her to know that I’m here. In case she wants to pour one more shot of tears. Always here. (5) I waved to this boy on the first day of class and he just stared at me. I hated him that day. I gave this boy a huge sketchpad last year because he is really really really good at drawing. I liked him that day. Then, there are days when he comes to school late. What could he possibly be busy with? Then I remember that he was a Yolanda survivor, and whatever it is that takes up his time I know he’ll survive, I haven’t told him this but I believe in his dreams. I hated him ‘once’ but I liked him all the days after and possible all the years more. (6) I hope this girl breaks her heart. Cruel? Selfish? Yes. How else do we know that we deserve someone better? We deserve the love we need to give to ourselves. I hope she comes out stronger.
(7) Singing has been her trademark, and I understand that, but I don’t know sometimes I admire her inner voice more. The way she says she’s evil but she has shown me nothing but kindness. People love her you know. People really love her. Some because of her singing, but most is because of her soul. Flaws? I’m pretty sure she has them, I’m certain she has a lot. But, that’s what being normal is right? She is kind, she is loved, and her voice both sung and shown has taught me how singing touches people in more ways than they can imagine. (8) At last, I got to write about this one. I know she’s hurting. Gad she is. There are nights when she confides to me about the pain, about how it’s all wrong, about how she deserves to be treated way way better. And I know that what she’s only trying to say is that she wants to be fought for, that it’s time to be fckng fought for!!!!!!! I want her to know that she’s right, but I also want her to know that she’s wrong. That it’s okay to be fought for and to fight at the same time. I want her to know that I spoke to someone who broke my heart about everything and only then did the waters became clear. FIGHT. You have nothing to lose now, or maybe there is, but FIGHT because you will lose everything if you don’t. We’re strong independent women right. Let’s let them know. If you’re wondering, yes this is the sign.
(9) (10) There are two people who have marveled me during the years. One lost her father at the day of our recognition, and one speaks about hers with endless admiration. These two girls taught me what it’s like to love. To love both in pain and in joy, to love when a person’s here and specially when he’s not. To love. To be a child. To love even more. (11) I jogged with this boy to a cemetery once. We’ve grown closer now. And I never told him this but, sometimes I picture him as a soldier. (12) The first thing you notice about him, is his size. I may be insensitive here but remind me why again? I am extremely proud of my guy here. Lately he’s been advocating against all sorts of injustices from body shaming to calling wattpad a book. Size is the first thing you notice, but just seconds after you notice how he forgets to bring his WiFi with him, and how he looks at you in the eyes when he speaks, and how his laugh resonates in your heart. I said he’s a big guy but maybe the society needs big guys like him to speak for those who feel so little. Maybe it’s a mission, or maybe it’s a blessing in disguise, but whatever it is, I know that he’s a man with a huge heart, one brave and never cowardly. (13) The last one and the first one all at the same time. I hope he realizes how he makes me happy when he says that I’m the reason why he’s addicted to books. I like the way you turn red on the cheeks when we talk or when you laugh. I hope you laugh more.

Old Friends
I’ve drifted away with people who I once thought I could never finish high school without. There’s Pig and Jascha on top of the list. Sometimes I wonder if I’m such a bad friend, maybe I am. May they remember all our memories nonetheless. May they forgive me for forgetting their birthdays and lying about it. Trust me, I am aware of my faults and I am ashamed of it.
They say burning bridges is okay. But what do you do when the burning was an accident? When you never planned for it to happen, when it just..did. Maybe all I can do is say sorry, but also say thank you.
Tumblr media
I know these people are happier now, they have a new set of friends and smile a whole lot wider. But I have a confession.
Making me ashamed of how I was finally doing well with HUMSS somehow made me all the more a renegade. I never blamed them when they never bothered to say hi or hello, I never made them uncomfortable with the fact that they have other friends, I was okay with them being all those things. That’s why I don’t understand why it’s not okay for me to be the same.
At 2017, I fought for someone, hard. I never regretted that night.
Burning bridges can be accidents or not, but one can find solace in the fact that it leads you to new places, one that you never knew you needed.
Debate
I felt less pressured in debates this year, maybe because it’s Brit Parliamentary season.
Tumblr media
Family
Truth be told, WiFi has devoured most of our family time. So much, that sometimes I wish we don’t have it at all. I am not the perfect child, nor the perfect sister. I am that bastard who rolls her eyes and I wrestle with my sisters . But, every night all I want is to cuddle with Yanitz and Chim, and hug them when they’re asleep and tell them how much I love them while I still can. Every night my prayers are composed of me praying to God to grant us safety and good health and a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious long life together here on Earth. The very same prayer I had when I was 8 years old. I know that I am not the best ate or child, but I like to believe that 2017 made me a better one.
Tumblr media
God
This year I learned to surrender.
I used to take so long when I pray and 80% of it was me asking for things I deem to be necessary, but 2017 made me understand that I have been doing it the wrong way. Now when I pray, I say a quiet scream of praise which takes up 40% of my time then I apologize for all my sins be it on the mind, heart, or deeds and that’s also about 40% and then I say “God I surrender everything to You, everything. Help me to become Your servant. Protect my family always. I love You.” 20% of my time praying is that. It is short but it is powerful.
I realized when you trust God to direct your life, you give Him the power and you give yourself the peace in knowing that you are always at His mercy and His wings. That God is with you all the days of your life, because you surrendered and the Heavens is guiding you. It’s difficult to explain but I gave God the sail to my ship and everything from there has been a purposeful ride.
Short Hair
This was the year I decided to cut my hair short like really really short. It was an impulsive decision, but one that was wanted for a long time, an act of defiance against those who said that I can’t. I enjoyed all the memories I had with this hair even though I looked like Dora and on some days Boots. Still, it was an amazing journey with this one. Power.

Lessons and Self
1. Love is everywhere. Love was there when you smiled at the old woman who wore dirty baggy clothes and who was picking up plastic bottles on theway home. Love was when she smiled back. Love was here when you treated your sister to Greenwhich. Love was wanting to sleep beside them every night. Love was when you forgave yourself for being bad at debates. Love was when you fought for Ed. Love is when you pray. Love was in the flowers that day you decided that it was time to let go. Love was in the ocean when you needed to breathe and when you felt like it’s so much easier to just drown. Love is your Papa, and your Mama, and Yanitz, and Chim. Love is the solace, love is the truth, love is the strength, love is faith. Love is everything, and love is everywhere, you just have to want to see it.
2. You are shitty person. But, that’s okay. You are trying.
3. Attitude really matters. I met a lot of people who are so engulfed with ego and pride that stemmed from their achievements, majority can’t stand them despite their honors. What good is it when you don’t touch people’s lives anyway?
4. Laugh. Satisfaction is hard to find. It’s different to stand under the rain and to dance under it. I’ve learned to do both. I dance in front of mirrors now too.
5. You don’t need a boy. Relationships bring heartache and pain. Some people say they love you but then they don’t. I know it’s nice to feel giddy before you fall asleep but if it’s at the cost of you waking up in the morning and tiring yourself to wait for their replies who by the way wouldn’t be there not until it’s convenient for them, then maybe it’s time to really really really wake up.
6. You’re still a hopeless romantic despite everything you say.
7. YOU ARE NOT AFRAID OF DYING. At 2017, I thought I had cancer. I have this bump in my head that existed for no apparent reason. It was also during this time that I visited a lot of wakes. Somehow there was a button inside of me that just kinda flipped. It was a eureka moment when I realized that I am not afraid, not of dying. It was that kind of realization that takes you on a nostalgia ride and when you look back you realize that you have loved with your heart bruised and with it whole and that you are finally happy, that you have always been happy despite not being so. It was contentment. It’s a scary thought to admit that I am not afraid of dying. Ironic.
8. Skin is just that, skin. I know it’s hard to feel confident when you have a lot of pimples and acne scars, and when you have a bloated belly, and bushy brows. But people don’t remember that about you when you die. Most of the times, people don’t even notice it. We are own critics and a pimple is not fckng worth it.
9. It’s perfectly fine to change decisions. You can go from Point A to Point B. Mistakes will be made along the way, but we are humans that’s what we do best.
10. Forgive.
11. Fight for the things and the people you love. No matter how hard it is. Sometimes, you just have to trust your heart. Everybody can say that you didn’t work out, but nobody can ever tell you that you didn’t try.
12. You turned 18 this year. Fifteen years from now maybe your wedding day. Right now, you have every chance, every opportunity, every day. To turn your aspirations into reality. To love every single person around you. To trust and to forgive when it’s so hard to do so. To be grateful. To give back. To laugh. To dance in front of mirrors. To bathe in the rain. To pray. To work on yourself. To learn. Things will change, they always do, you will too. Make it legendary.
Last night, I told someone how much I hated 2017 how all of those things above were just petty excuses for how much I loathed last year. But, I was wrong.
I wanted to become someone normal, and I think I succeeded. What is normal anyway? Normal is being yourself, normal is failing, normal is loving. I understand now that there is more to life than meets the eye.
My life is normal but it’s not monochromatic, it’s not just shades of black and white. It’s magical and vibrant. Neutrality will always be there but it doesn’t mean that you have to be color blind.
2017 was the year I loved so hard. 2017 was the year I lost people. 2017 was the year I decided that I liked wearing skirts. 2017 made me fat. 2017 was the year I turned an adult. 2017 was the year I cried so much because of Rea Nitz. 2017 was when I loved Yanitz more. 2017 was me being a whole new person, different from who I was once upon a time. I like to believe that I’m stronger now, I’m ready to get back in the game, but now with the added wisdom that the best things in life come to those who find love and beauty in the smallest things. I grew as a person, and I will continue to be a student of life. Wow if that ain’t damn good realizations I don’t know what are.
I’m pretty much sure that 2017 prepared me for a spectacular year and for all the years ahead.
I know I said I hated 2017, but I have never been so glad to finally accept that I was wrong.
