𝙱𝚊𝚔𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝙳𝚒𝚜𝚊𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚛 | 𝚆𝟸𝚂
𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: harry lewis x fem!reader
𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: the one where you and harry try baking together, leading to a kitchen disaster and cookies that are more chaotic than delicious, but still a lot of fun
𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰: too sweet - hozier
𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: none!

.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・
It had started innocently enough. You and Harry had been lounging around the house, bored out of your minds, and it didn’t help that the weather outside was miserable—rain pounding against the windows, dark clouds hanging heavy in the sky. Harry had been flipping through YouTube, and you were scrolling aimlessly on your phone when he suddenly piped up.
“I’ve got an idea,” he said, his voice laced with enthusiasm.
You glanced at him, raising an eyebrow, immediately suspicious. “You? An idea?”
Harry was quick to defend himself. “Oi, I’ve got loads of ideas! Not all of them are stupid.” He leaned forward, the mischief in his eyes giving you a feeling you couldn’t quite place. “Let’s bake something.”
You blinked. “Bake? You?”
He shrugged innocently. “I watched a tutorial. I reckon I could bake cookies. You know, chocolate chip. The classics.”
You leaned back, crossing your arms. “Right, sure. I’m not sure I trust you in the kitchen.”
His grin widened. “Well, that’s what makes it fun. Let’s give it a go.”
You hesitated for a second but found yourself standing up and walking towards the kitchen anyway. “Fine. But if this ends in disaster, I’m blaming you.”
“Oh, come on. It’ll be fun!”
You gave him a skeptical look as he pulled open the pantry and grabbed the flour, sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. “Okay, so what’s the first step?”
Harry scanned the recipe on his phone for a second. “Uh… well, we need to cream the butter and sugar first.”
You watched as Harry grabbed the butter and tried to “cream” it with the sugar, but it didn’t quite look right. He was using a fork like he was fighting with a stubborn piece of dough, and you couldn’t help but laugh.
“You’re supposed to use a mixer, mate,” you teased, leaning against the counter.
Harry frowned, clearly not getting the memo. “Nah, I’ve got this. Who needs a mixer?”
You sighed but kept your comments to yourself. After all, you had agreed to this. You grabbed the eggs and started cracking them into a bowl, only to have Harry stare at you like you were performing some grand, complex task.
“Wait,” he said, his eyes widening. “You just cracked that so easily. I thought that was a skill only chefs had.”
You rolled your eyes, smiling. “It’s not that complicated. You crack the egg, and the good stuff goes in the bowl.”
His face lit up. “Ohhh. Got it.”
While you were focused on cracking the eggs, Harry was tackling the flour. He poured the entire bag into the bowl in one go, and a white cloud erupted into the air, dusting his entire shirt. His eyes widened as he looked down at the flour-covered fabric.
“Um, Harry… you’re wearing that for the rest of the day?”
He chuckled sheepishly, brushing off some of the flour. “It adds to the authenticity of the moment.”
You snorted, shaking your head. “That’s one way to look at it.”
At this point, you were both getting covered in flour. You couldn’t even remember how, but somehow the kitchen was now covered in a light dusting of the stuff. You had flour on your nose, in your hair, and all over your shirt. Harry, who had an affinity for making everything into a competition, tried to “out-flour” you. Before long, it was a full-on flour fight, with both of you laughing so hard you were barely able to stand.
“Alright, alright,” you said, trying to catch your breath, “let’s get back to it before we turn into flour-covered mummies.”
You turned back to the dough, which was now a bit of a sticky mess. You had to admit, it wasn’t looking much like cookies yet.
“So… what’s next?” you asked, slightly out of breath from laughing.
“Uh, let’s see…” Harry checked the recipe again, only to suddenly drop his phone on the counter in frustration. “This thing’s a nightmare. I think it’s broken. Help me out here, please?”
You rolled your eyes good-naturedly but walked over to check. “It’s not broken, Harry. Just—okay, we need to mix it all together. The wet ingredients first, then the dry.”
As you began mixing, Harry, still trying to look competent, decided he would take care of the chocolate chips. You had to admit, he was doing better now. His usual overconfidence was coming through, and you could tell he was trying to make it look like he was doing more than he was.
“Do you need some help with those?” you asked, eyeing the chips.
He winked at you, attempting to act casual. “Nah, I’ve got it.”
You watched as Harry began pouring the entire bag of chocolate chips into the mixing bowl—without measuring it.
“Mate, what are you doing?”
His face turned red. “What? More chocolate is never a bad thing.”
“Yeah, well, if we wanted to eat pure chocolate and nothing else, we would’ve just eaten the chips straight from the bag,” you teased.
But it didn’t stop Harry. He kept adding more and more chips until the dough looked like it had turned into a sea of chocolate with a touch of flour.
“Well, I think this is looking great,” Harry said proudly, as if he hadn’t just created a gooey mess.
You couldn’t help but laugh, and you started spooning the dough onto the baking tray.
When the cookies finally went into the oven, you both stood back, watching the timer. The kitchen now looked like a disaster zone—chocolate chips scattered across the counters, flour everywhere, and half a dozen utensils left haphazardly on the counter.
“So,” you said, looking at the clock, “what do we do now?”
Harry leaned against the counter, casually glancing over at you. “I guess we just wait for the magic to happen.”
You raised an eyebrow. “If by ‘magic,’ you mean a pile of cookies that might collapse into goo when we try to take them out, then sure.”
Harry laughed. “It’ll be fine. You’re overthinking it.”
The timer dinged, and both of you jumped. You rushed to the oven, and Harry leaned in to peer at the cookies. They were… well, they were cookies. Some were perfectly golden, others were slightly burnt around the edges, and the ones in the middle looked like they were still half-dough.
“I think we may have made… interesting cookies,” Harry said cautiously, peering at the uneven batch.
You both stared at the cookies for a long moment, both of you trying to figure out if this was a total failure. Finally, you grabbed one and gave it a taste. The texture was soft and a bit gooey in the center. Not perfect, but not terrible either.
“Well,” you said, popping a bite into your mouth, “they’re… edible.”
Harry grabbed one and took a bite, his face lighting up in a way that made you laugh. “Hey, they’re not that bad. I’d say we nailed it.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Nailed it? They look like something I could have made in my sleep. Half of them are burnt, and the other half are… mushy.”
“Still, they’ve got character,” Harry replied with a grin.
You laughed, shaking your head. “Character, sure. That’s what I’m calling it too.”
“I mean, if we can’t cook, at least we’ve got fun out of it,” Harry said, holding up his cookie in a mock toast.
“True,” you agreed, “I’ll give you that. But I think next time, we’re just going to order pizza and let someone else handle the food.”
“Deal,” Harry agreed, his smile widening as he stepped closer to you. He reached out, taking another cookie. “But this was a good time, wasn’t it?”
You nodded, smiling back at him. “Definitely. Even if we did nearly destroy the kitchen in the process.”
“Next time, we make cupcakes,” Harry said.
You raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”
He winked. “What could possibly go wrong?”
“Famous last words,” you muttered, but you knew you’d do it all over again. Because with Harry, even the messiest, most chaotic moments were the ones you’d never forget.

How to Paint: Glowing Heat Sink Effects
I already went over this briefly in text in the notes of the Awesome but I figured I should probably double this up and give it its own tutorial. Glowing effects are something that's extremely commonplace in a wargame like 40k but less seen in Battletech painting, despite being a great visual indicator of the effects of the game's heat mechanic. While it does take a little bit of work and some extra paints, adding these to your energy boats and pilot cooking clan mechs can be a great way to add a bit of visual flair to your forces.
Paints I Used

This is what I had on deck for this mini- substitute for your preferred colors, brands, and availability as you like
Army Painter Matt White (titanium white/pure white)
Citadel Khorne Red (dark red)
Citadel Mephiston Red (medium red)
Citadel Evil Sunz Scarlet (bright red)
Citadel Troll Slayer Orange (bright orange)
Citadel Yriel Yellow (bright yellow)
Citadel Lahmian Medium (thinning medium)
Method
Before you begin working on the heat sinks you want to complete the rest of the area around the place you want to do the glow effect. Light is an active environmental effect on a surface so you'll want to complete most of the base layers, highlights, shading, and other environmental effects before we work on the glow. Today our subject is a Manticore Heavy Tank that I used a modified pink-grey version of my weathered drab armor recipe to paint.

Once we've identified the sinks we want to paint and finished the rest of the model around them, our first step is going to be to paint the sink area white. This will increase the saturation on future layers and make the heat sink appear brighter, as well as giving us a consistent color to work up from. Try to stay within the vent area itself and avoid paining the outer frame- we want that to retain the color of the model. Once the white is dry, paint over all of it with our dark red color. Use one or two thin coats to do this.

Once the dark red is dry, go and get your medium red color. Make sure not to overthin this as we want to work this onto a pretty particular part of the model. Using the side of a small or medium sized brush, carefully paint just the ridges of the vent fins, leaving the dark red color in between. Leave this to dry briefly and then we can work on the interior of the vents.

Get your bright orange paint and thin it pretty significantly- more than you would for a normal color. Then, take a very thin brush, load it with some paint, and carefully dab/drag it in between the vent fins. Capillary action should focus this thinned paint into feeding between the medium red fins and make the impression that the interior of the heat sink is glowing. Make sure to leave some of the dark red color at the tops and bottoms of the fins when doing this.

Once the medium red and orange are dry, repeat the same process with your bright red and yellow, but make sure to only apply the paint this time where you want the glow brightest. This might be a particular side of the heat sink but in this case it will be the middle for me, to follow the curve of the turret.

Finally, we will 'extend' the glow of the sink to the area around it slightly. You could do this by applying a quick and soft drybrush before you start using lighter colors on the sink itself, but I prefer to use a glaze for this as it produces smoother results. Once the entire sink is dry, take your darkest color (quick physics lesson: reflected light will always be less intense than the source) and some thinning medium. Mix the two together at a 1:1 ratio and then add some to a medium brush with a fine tip before wiping off the excess on your pallet. The brush should be just damp and produce a thin and regular line of color when dragged across your fingernail for the best results. Once you're happy, sketch the color onto the area around the glowing heat sink with little motions. You should be building up an even, translucent layer of color over top of your base paint job, making it look like the heat and light of the sink is radiating out into the area around it.

And now are heat sinks are done! I've painted these sinks with fairly high contrast hot tones to pop on the dull purple model but you can easily change the colors around to suit your needs. If you want darker, more desaturated glow, start with a dark brown instead of a dark red and have your brightest highlight colors be medium red and bright orange. If you want to go hotter, consider trading the red/orange/yellow pallet for blues and whites. More exotic forms of glow could be rendered with greens or purples. Get weird and have some fun with it!

"Nawy what do you MEAN quick-ish 3D render it's got scratches and everything and I thought this was real for a minute!!"
Well, first, thank you very much that was the intention ❤, and second, you see, all speed is relative, and between finding my references, modeling, texturing and lighting, on top of having to learn how to make convincing gems, it still took me quite a few hours. I, however, cut corners everywhere for speed, and I wouldn't put this piece in a portfolio in its current state.
But! for the curious, I thought I could do a simple breakdown of how the witchcraft happens, without using too much specialized language to make it more accessible. In short,
In this case, I’m talking about a 3D model that was textured (colours and stuff) and then lit (lights on!) to make a pretty final picture. The objective is not to make a tutorial, but to put in simple terms what a 3D artist does to make something go from this, to that:
(people curious and/or trying to see if this interests them welcome)
I'm skipping the 3D modeling part altogether, since it isn't where most of the magic happens here. Just know that to be able to add colour and stuff on a 3D object, you have to go through the process or "unwrapping" it, which is like doing those foldable cubes in reverse
and then we can draw on it!!
Now, the good stuff:
Surfaces (metal, plastic, fabric, wood, skin, etc.) have different looks that make you able to differentiate them on sight. To make something look realistic, you have to try to replicate real life into the 3D world (duh.)
The software developers took care of the hard part (math and coding), so as artists we can play with the parameters available to make something pretty. What those parameters are depend on which "recipe" we're using. One of the most common "recipes" for realistic results is called PBR: Physically Based Rendering, named that way because it's trying to replicate real-life light physics. In this case, the 4 basic parameters are called albedo, roughness, metalness, and normal.
Albedo is the base colour of the surface (easy stuff). Roughness is to determine if a surface is rough or shiny. Metalness is to say if something is made out of metal or not. The normal is there to add all those tiny details you don't want to or can't sculpt on your 3D model (engravings, fabric bumps, etc.)
The roughness and metalness are black and white images because the information you're giving to the software is black = no and white = yes. It's easier to understand in the metalness image, where everything that is NOT a metal is black, and everything that IS a metal is white.
The normal is a bit more complex, but in short, it uses the colours green and red to know what is up/down or left/right, and will help the software fake relief on top of the model. You don't make it by hand; it's computer-generated from other stuff I'm not getting into.
With the technical stuff out of the way, we can actually use these. There are specialized softwares that will let you preview the results of each parameter in real time, so you can see what you're doing easily. This is what I have.
That software comes with some types of surfaces that are already set up, like the fabric in my piece, which was already 85% good for me straight out of the box. Then, it's up to me to use the tools available to decide how shiny a surface is, if there's dust or scratches and where, what colours things are, if there's metal parts, etc. That's where you can see a 3D artist's skills.
And finally, you bring it all together into a specialized software that can render 3D stuff and use those images on the corresponsing parameters, and then light the scene.
Because it all comes down to this: the light! For something realistic, light is vital to get right. You can pour your heart and soul into those tiny scratches, but if you don't light the scene correctly, well...
So we carefully light the scene to get some nice highlights to make the textures look good and highlight our subject (it's basically a photography studio inside a computer)
And then we add some camera effects...
and voilà! pretty picture!!
... and if you somehow did notice something different with the bolo tie from my last post, I did find out while taking all these screenshots that I messed up my initial renders in a way that made everything darker than it was supposed to be and that's why my gold looked so muddy...
I hope this was interesting and that you learned a thing or two!

Your last fics tearing my hearts apart😭😭Anyways may I request jotaro kujo with a pregnant s/o? He probably would be defensive like that time when Holly got the fever

Ah yes! We have another 2-for-1 special! But let's make it a list of headcanons to switch things up 😉This one's for @lolsandlmaos and anon, and let me just say, yes; I love writing wholesome dadtaro content and I'm glad the audience likes some wholesome dadtaro content too. So, hope you enjoy! ♡

Before I start, can we all just silently agree that Jotaro really just wanted a family of his own canonically?
Think about it, we know he isn't the type to sleep around at random. What if the man wanted what his grandparents had and live a life without the Stand bs? The fact he found somebody and had a kid with her tells us that he tried to make it work, but we know that it didn't as we see in the series.
"I've always cherished you"
He wanted that life. He wanted to be a good father to his daughter. But he couldn't because of the family curse.
Anyways! Let's forget the canon for a moment and delve into some wholesome headcanons!
When he first heard the news, he was pleasantly surprised that he couldn't speak for a solid minute. He simply stared at you with wide eyes and stunned silence.
Later that day, the man is glued to your side holding you in his arms and he's uncharacteristically showing affection: He's nuzzling your neck, planting kisses wherever he could, gently swaying you back and forth, and most importantly, he's often caressing your flat tummy.
Now that's done with, Jotaro's already gone into Papa Wolf mode as early as the first weeks
He knows he isn't the sunny Golden Retriever type of guy like his grandfather or great-grandfather, so he isn't naturally attuned to being a first-time dad. Lowkey, he's anxious he might end up as a shitty husband in the process.
But what he does know is that he loves to research, is adaptable, and is a quick learner
He begins to visit the nearby library and study "maternal and child care". Then proceeds to go over what to do for each trimester, he studies proper diet and eating patterns for pregnant partners, and studiously digests a whole book's worth of "How to be a Good Father".
Being in this mode also means he naturally becomes protective of you. He makes sure that he has time for you and your needs. Want to go anywhere out of the house? He'll be accompanying you there. No doubt.
If anyone even remotely makes a rude remark about you, Star Platinum has already punched their teeth out.
If you thought Jotaro couldn't cook, then think again because when his partner is pregnant, you bet your ass that he'll learn how to cook faster than you expected him to.
At first, he's still working on the basics like knowing what ingredients and kitchen paraphernalia should be used. He has a recipe book or two propped up for him to skim over and study. He even calls Holly for cooking tutorials when he feels like he's hit a learning slump. His mother has already booked a ticket to your place and immediately teaches her son numerous cooking lessons
Weeks later, you're surprised that Jotaro has become a natural in the kitchen, being able to dish out your favorites with seemingly no issue. It turns out that while Jotaro did most of the work, he had Star assist him with the "finer" stuff (i.e. measurements, cutting, etc.)
Suffice it to say, he takes pride in himself that he can now make you smile with his newfound talent.
Then there are the cravings. Of course, when you ask him to buy the most random food combinations, Jotaro would simply say "okay" and buy them anyway, as long as the food choices weren't harmful to you and the baby. He'd also give you food even if you asked him in the ass crack of morning.
Anything to make you happy after all
When it comes to building the nursery, Jotaro leaves you to do the interior designing and aesthetic choices since he's shit at that. But when the furniture arrives in their boxes, then it's time for him to step in and does all the arranging, moving, and assembling for you. Have a planned layout? He'll follow them. Want the walls painted a certain color? No problem.
After you planned everything out and he finished his tasks, the nursery ended up being marine-themed with all the pastel blues and aquatic decor like sea animal plushies, a shell lamp, glow-in-the-dark fish wall stickers, and more bringing life to the place.
Remember when I said he'd do work, yeah he'll do the work. House husband style. He'll do the chores and let you rest, grumpily insisting you sit and relax when you try to convince him that you can do the lighter tasks.
From time to time, when both of you aren't doing anything, Jotaro would occasionally turn to your round stomach and reach forward to caress it, blushing as he does so.
Then a kick happens and the man's fully attuned to you in awe. On the outside, he's still a calm dude but deep down, he's so excited that the baby responded to his touch. You ended up scooting closer to him, seeking cuddles while he reciprocates as he still continues to stroke your tummy.
Jotaro, at this point in his life, has the patience of a monk towards his loved ones, so when the mommy mood swings kick in, he is more than ready to adapt to your every emotional breakdown even if he's just going to be there to either take it, calm you, or comfort you in silence
That also includes the part where you become horny. Of course, he'll be gentler with you during this time of your pregnancy, but he can't help but include a few rough bucks of his hip when he's about to go off the edge.
Other times, just touching you can help ease that heightened libido
He'll immediately drive you to the hospital once your water breaks. He'll wait with you throughout labor, hoping his soft caresses are enough to make up for his lack of comforting words. At times, Star will come out to help him distract you from the contractions.
He'd pace around outside the delivery room, anxious with his mind already overthinking what bad could happen to you and the baby. It's a good thing Holly is there to help reassure her son that his wife and child would be okay.
When Jotaro finally gets to visit, his eyes land on the swaddled little one in her tiny crib stationed beside your bed. He beelines straight to it and pauses in complete awe at the tiny baby cooing before him.
You can't help but giggle as your husband's eyes start to water as he gingerly reaches down to pick up his newborn daughter. He's still in awe, completely fixated on baby Jolyne.
Then after he sits down on the chair by your bedside, he brings his index to touch her and his heart skips a beat when the baby grasps it with her whole hand.
And the waterworks are broken and he ends up leaning against your side while you nuzzle against him as he tries to regain composure from tearing up so much from seeing and feeling his bundle of joy.
Admittedly, Jotaro is scared about whether he'd do a good job being a father, but to both you and himself, he promises that he'll do his damn best.

Become Your Best Version Before 2025 - Day 22
Developing New Skills
Let's talk about something super exciting, learning new skills! But wait, before you think "ugh, I don't have time for that," I promise we'll keep this fun and totally doable.
Remember when we were kids and tried new things just because they looked fun? No pressure, no expectations, just pure curiosity! Let's bring some of that energy back into our lives.
Want to hear something cool? Our brains literally light up with joy when we learn new things. It's like giving ourselves tiny happiness boosters throughout the day. How awesome is that?
Here's the thing about learning new skills, you don't need fancy equipment or hours of free time. Seriously! Some of the most fulfilling skills I've picked up started with just:
Watching YouTube videos while eating lunch
Using free apps during my morning routine
Practicing for 10 minutes before bed
The trick? Start so small it feels almost silly. Learning a language? Start with just one word a day. Want to draw? Doodle one tiny sketch while your coffee brews. Interested in cooking? Master one simple recipe before moving to the next.
I used to think I needed perfect conditions to learn something new, like you know, lots of free time, the right equipment, maybe even a class to sign up for. But then I realized waiting for perfect conditions meant never starting at all!
Instead, try this: pick something that makes you curious. Something that makes you think "ooh, that looks fun!" Then find ONE tiny way to explore it tomorrow. Just tomorrow. That's it!
Maybe it's:
Downloading a language app and learning how to say "hello"
Looking up one simple yoga pose to try
Learning one new keyboard shortcut
Finding a beginner's tutorial for something you've always wanted to try
The magic happens when we stop thinking about becoming experts and just enjoy being beginners. Every single expert started exactly where you are, just curious and willing to try!
Today's Challenge:
Pick ONE skill you'd love to learn
Find a super simple way to start (like a 5-minute YouTube video or a quick tutorial)
Spend just 10 minutes exploring it
Share what you picked in the comments!
See you tomorrow for Day 23!

Chocolates and Risotto

James Marriot x Fem!Reader
Summary : James and the Reader spend Valentines Day together making dinner Warnings : None Notes: Happy Valentines Day All 😚💕

You had to give James credit—he really tried. When he suggested cooking a fancy Valentine’s Day dinner together, you were sceptical. You’d seen the state of his skills in the kitchen during his YouTube videos with Will, and let’s just say it wasn’t exactly Gordon Ramsay-approved. But James was so excited, scrolling through TikTok and showing you recipes with names like “Decadent Truffle Risotto” and “Molten Chocolate Lava Cake.” He even joked about how Will would probably laugh at them if he saw this. “Good thing it’s just us tonight,” he said, grinning. “No cameras, no pressure—just you, me, and Otto.”
The plan was simple: James would handle the main course (garlic butter shrimp and risotto), and you’d take care of dessert (the lava cakes). He was optimistic, as always, convinced that this would be the perfect Valentine’s Day. “It’ll be fun!” he said, waving a wooden spoon like a conductor’s baton. “And if it goes wrong, we’ll just order takeout and laugh about it. Low-key vibes only.”

Things started falling apart almost immediately. James, deciding to multitask, had shrimp sizzling in one pan, risotto bubbling in another, and a TikTok tutorial playing on his phone—though he swore it was just for reference. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, and his hair was already a mess, flopping into his eyes as he stirred the risotto with one hand and flipped the shrimp with the other.
You couldn’t help but smile at the sight of him, so focused yet so clearly out of his depth. He looked up at you, catching your gaze, and flashed that lopsided grin of his. “Chef Marriott at your service,” he said, giving a mock bow with the wooden spoon. “Tonight’s menu: chaos with a side of romance.”
You laughed, shaking your head as you turned back to your own task—the chocolate lava cakes. Or at least, what was supposed to be chocolate lava cakes. The batter was supposed to be thick and glossy, but yours was more like soup, pooling in the bottom of the mixing bowl. You frowned, stirring it again, as if that would somehow fix it. “I think I messed up the measurements,” you admitted, holding up the bag of flour that had somehow exploded all over your apron.
James glanced over, his nose wrinkling as he tried to stifle a laugh. “You’ve got a little… everywhere,” he said, gesturing to your face. You reached up to brush it off, only realising too late that your hands were covered in chocolate. James burst out laughing, and you couldn’t help but join in, the sound of his laughter filling the kitchen like music.
The moment was interrupted by the risotto, which had started to bubble ominously. James turned back to it, poking at the glutinous mess with his spoon. “Why is it so… gluey?” he muttered, more to himself than to you.
You leaned over his shoulder, peering into the pot. “Maybe you’re supposed to add more wine?” you suggested, grabbing the bottle of white wine from the counter. Without waiting for his response, you poured a generous glug into the pot.
The risotto hissed angrily, releasing a cloud of steam that set off the smoke alarm. The shrill beeping filled the room, and James leapt into action, waving a tea towel at the detector like a man possessed.
“Okay, maybe we should’ve just ordered food in,” he said, laughing as the alarm finally stopped. He turned to you, his cheeks flushed from the heat and the effort, and shrugged. “But hey, at least we’re doing this together, right?”
As if things weren’t chaotic enough, Otto decided to make his grand entrance. He had been suspiciously quiet up until now, but the chaos in the kitchen was clearly too tempting to resist. With a graceful leap, he landed on the counter, his tail swishing as he eyed the sizzling shrimp with predatory interest.
“Otto, no!” James yelled, lunging to intercept him, but the cat was too quick.
Otto darted toward the pan, his paw swiping at the edge and sending a few shrimp tumbling to the floor. James moved like lightning, scooping Otto up just as the cat was about to pounce on his prize. “Oh no, you don’t,” James said, holding Otto at arm’s length as the cat squirmed indignantly. “You’re not ruining dinner. Well, not any more than we already have.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as James carried Otto out of the kitchen, setting him down in the bedroom with a stern look. “Stay,” he said, pointing a finger at the cat, who blinked up at him with an expression of pure innocence. “Yeah, right,” James muttered, shaking his head as he walked back to you.
By this point, the kitchen looked like a war zone. The shrimp was overcooked, the risotto was gluey, and the chocolate lava cakes were still a soupy mess. But somehow, none of it mattered. James reached out, pulling you into his arms, and you leaned into him, your laughter mingling with his. “We’re a disaster,” you said, resting your head against his chest.
“Yeah,” he agreed, pressing a kiss to the top of your head. “But we’re our disaster.” And at that moment, with the kitchen in shambles, the smell of burnt risotto in the air, and Otto’s paw prints trailing down the hallway, you couldn’t imagine anything more perfect.

After the chaos in the kitchen, James declared the cooking experiment officially over. “Takeout it is,” he said, grabbing his phone and scrolling through the delivery app. You nodded in agreement, leaning against the counter as you surveyed the mess.
The risotto was still bubbling, the shrimp were beyond saving, and the chocolate lava cakes were now a solidified puddle in the bottom of the pan. Otto, meanwhile, had been banished to the bedroom after his shrimp-stealing antics, though you could hear him meowing indignantly from behind the closed door.
“I’ll clean this up while you order,” you offered, grabbing a roll of paper towels and a sponge. James shook his head, stepping closer and taking the sponge from your hand.
“Nope,” he said firmly. “We’re in this together, remember? I’ll help.” He grabbed a green food bin bag and started scooping up the ruined risotto, while you wiped down the counters and mopped up the olive oil. It wasn’t exactly romantic, but there was something oddly comforting about working side by side, laughing as you tried to scrub flour and chocolate off the counter.
By the time the doorbell rang, the kitchen was mostly clean—or at least, clean enough. James went to answer it, returning with a bag of burgers and chips from your favourite spot. The smell was heavenly, and your stomach growled in anticipation. “I think this is the best decision we’ve made all night,” you said, grabbing plates and napkins.
James set the bag down on the counter and started unpacking the food, placing the burgers and chips onto plates with a surprising amount of care. “We’re doing this properly,” he said, handing you a plate. “Blanket on the floor, candles, the whole vibe.” You raised an eyebrow but didn’t argue, helping him spread a blanket across the living room floor. He lit a single candle—carefully placed out of Otto’s reach—and turned off the overhead lights, leaving the room bathed in a soft, flickering glow.
You sat down cross-legged on the blanket, balancing your plate on your lap. James grabbed a couple of sodas from the fridge and joined you, sitting close enough that your knees brushed. “Okay, this is way better than risotto,” he said, taking a bite of his burger. You laughed, nodding in agreement. The food was simple, but it was exactly what you needed after the disaster in the kitchen. The chips were perfectly salty, the burgers were juicy, and the soda fizzed as you popped open the cans.
As you ate, James started making up a silly song about your failed dinner, his voice warm and teasing. “We tried to cook, but it went up in smoke, now we’re eating burgers and telling bad jokes…” You laughed, leaning against him as he sang.
The sound of his voice, the flicker of the candle, the way his arm brushed against yours—it all felt so perfect, so right. You couldn’t help but smile, feeling a wave of affection for him. “You’re such a dork,” you said, nudging him with your elbow.
He grinned, setting his plate aside and shifting closer to you, his movements slow and deliberate, as if he wanted to savour every second of this moment. His hand found yours, fingers intertwining, and he gave it a gentle squeeze. “Yeah, but I’m your dork,” he said, his voice soft, almost a whisper, as if the words were meant for you and you alone. His eyes held yours, warm and steady, and there was something in his gaze that made your breath catch—something tender, something unspoken, something that felt like home.
He leaned in, pressing a kiss to your forehead, his lips lingering there for a heartbeat longer than necessary, as if he was trying to imprint the moment into your skin. Then he moved to your cheek, his breath warm against your face, and you could feel the faintest hint of a smile on his lips as they brushed against yours. When he finally kissed you, it was slow and sweet, a gentle exploration that made your heart flutter in your chest. His hand cupped your jaw, his thumb tracing the curve of your cheek, and you melted into him, the taste of salt and fries still on his lips, mingling with the faint sweetness of the soda he’d been drinking.
For a moment, the world outside the two of you faded away. The flicker of the candle, the soft hum of the refrigerator, even Otto’s occasional indignant meows from the bedroom—it all seemed to dissolve into the background, leaving only the two of you, wrapped in a bubble of warmth and quiet intimacy. His other arm slid around your waist, pulling you closer until there was no space left between you, and you could feel the steady rise and fall of his chest against yours. It was a kiss that felt like a promise, like a thousand unspoken words, like the kind of moment you’d want to remember forever.
When he finally pulled back, it was only far enough to rest his forehead against yours, his breath mingling with yours as he smiled. “You know,” he said, his voice low and a little rough, “I think this might be my favourite Valentine’s Day ever.” His thumb brushed against your cheek again, and you could feel the sincerity in his words, the way they wrapped around you like a blanket.
You smiled, your heart so full it felt like it might burst. “Even with the burnt risotto and Otto’s shrimp heist?” you teased, your voice barely above a whisper.
He laughed, the sound soft and warm, and pressed another quick kiss to your lips. “Especially because of that,” he said. “It’s us. Messy, chaotic, perfect us.”
Just then, a particularly loud meow came from the bedroom, followed by the sound of Otto pawing at the door. James glanced toward the hallway, a fond smile tugging at his lips. “Alright, mate, hold on,” he said, reluctantly pulling away from you. He stood and walked over to the bedroom, opening the door just enough for Otto to slip through. The cat strutted into the living room, his tail held high, as if he hadn’t just been banished for causing chaos. He sniffed at the empty plates, clearly unimpressed, before jumping onto the couch and curling up in his favourite spot.
James sat back down beside you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders and pulling you close. You rested your head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Otto’s soft purring filled the room, blending with the flicker of the candle and the warmth of James’s embrace. It wasn’t the Valentine’s Day you’d planned, but it was perfect in its own way—messy, chaotic, and utterly, completely yours.

How did people find this? I hope it was okay and hit a craving for something on Valentines Day.

Edit: Better quality photo than the one I made in class.
I'm researching about my 11th Swatchling, Tiramisú, the cook of Queen's Palace. Yesterday made the naked body to understand how to make chubby but muscular bodies, and I was very worried about the result. Guess all those years mingling with the Taunka in Northrend helped me a bit to understand the body type. Tiramisú is meant to become not only an important character in my AU but I also had plans to create cooking videos for my channel, as means to present and make the character known to everyone and put some educative videos for good measure because I'm like that (I love cooking and I can't help it but to share in the art). For everything else, i'll keep researching and make a character sheet once I get the hang of his forms.
Here is some data profiling about him, directly from my outlining notes in Scrivener (if you wonder about the rugged feathers on the arms, all Swatchlings clip their wings out of respect to their father's oath to the crown -- it's also more comfy for them when they need to tuck their arms inside the sleeves of their uniforms):
* Tiramisú D’Orange — #11th Swatchling * Personality Polarization: ORNG * Subconscious Aspect: The Kindness of the Father * A foody portly Swatchling, cheery and ready to make others happy with a miriad of his own recipes, always tailored to the personality of the commensal. Works at the great kitchen of the palace, being the master of hors d'oeuvre, entrée and entremets, whereas his sibling Zuccoto is the master of amuse bouche and desserts. Because Tiramisú needs to taste all dishes before serving them, he can’t help to eat some each time. Therefore his Swatchling shape is inverted in contrast with the rest of his siblings. * Will be wearing a tall chef hat because of his passion for cooking, and a sprig of parsley from the mouth, signifying his love for detail. * His totem-like salt-pepper grinder is his weapon of choice. It’s called Salu-Salo, salt side applies a debuff that halves all manner of healing, and pepper side reduces the accuracy and potency of regular attacks. Tiramisú handles his totem with a lot of dexterity, as his natural Swatchling strength is doubled by the amount of energy he has stored in his body from all the food he takes in. The white side is the SALT and the black side is the BLACK-PEPPER. * Sometimes may go down to the Color Cafe to check on his siblings and his father during his spare time (or just to fetch some ingredients for Zuccoto or himself). He loves to have breakfast and late dinners with his siblings and the Tasquelings. Has a hankering for eating poisonous herbs and may request his sibling Tempranillo to go on quick outings to Cyber Field to procure the ingredients he needs for his “caprice snacks”. His Cybernet handle is D10nyssus.
Classroom drama beneath the cut. Tags when I get home.
Today my class wasn't classing too much at all. I'm waiting to use Unity since this past week and we can't advance because of 2 missing people... Others who already know how to do it already put their sprites an made them work, but I know nothing about Unity barring using an SDK to make avatars and worlds in VRCHAT and that's it. I'm still waiting to be taught something... If this trend keeps happening, instead of drawing I'll pull a YouTube tutorial about Unity and not wait for the teacher at all. My ADHD needs of stimuli and this wait kills me slowly (specially because I already delivered my sprites and everything is ready to import in Unity, I just need to know how to set everything up).
I'm sorry for the teacher but my brain is fickle and if I don't get enough mental stimuli, my brain and body just shuts down like with narcolepsy.
