After the press insinuates Cap bonding to Tony, who is presumed to be a beta, Steve and the team make it clear to Tony and the world that it is a horrible idea. People laugh at the team's "supposed" jokes about Tony's past experience as a loose-canon. Hurt, the genius shuts himself up and nearly brains himself on a heavy piece of machinery, which sends off an alert to two different locations: Rhodey, and Bucky.

Then the team, Fury finds out that Tony's an omega and they all change tunes. Now Steve wants to bond with the genius and the team wants to witness, even as Tony's unwilling to.

Jarvis tries to get the Omega to safety, but is shut down by Pepper, who believes this will be good for Tony (because bonding to a supersoldier would make the genius less likely to die and more likely for the avengers to stay loyal to him). Bruce tries to intervene, but Natasha manipulates him into thinking this would be the best outcome for the team, for Tony.

The team subdues Tony, who is desperately telling them to stop, almost willing to throw himself off the roof without the suit because this is the life Howard warned him about and this is why he hid his status as an Omega. Tony's first tear slips down his cheek and the sky darkens.

Cue sudden rumbling of thunder and Thor materialising on the roof, swinging Mjolnir in rage.

"I sensed an Omega in distress." He then proceeds to wreck the team because he's the god of fertility and has vowed to protect all mothers (yes, including mothers of metal beings with only half a soul) and because what kind of barbarians would force a bonding. He protects Tony till they all hear War Machine touching down.

Rhodey rips these people a new one because how dare they try to force his Tony into doing anything and ", just wait, just you wait. I'm not the only guy you've pissed off by this shit".

And then the elevator opens and out walks the Winter Soldier, ready to wage war on anyone who tries to hurt his (intended) omega.

Reasons why I love it: You had me at Angelica. This fic is so sweet! I love all the little tidbits like Rhodey and Pepper's daughter and Steve's career that really flesh out the world. And of course, I'm a huge fan of Hamilton playing a major role in this fic. I love this one so much, so I hope you give it a shot (and don't throw it away, badum tz).

Paper Crowns and Secret Keepers

Summary: Steve Rogers did not play favorites. He’d been one of the kindergarten teachers at Allensville Academy since he got out of graduate school and that was one of his key pedagogical beliefs - no playing favorites. But lands alive, if Peter Stark wasn’t testing his resolve.

Reasons why I love it: Aaaaaah not Flame subverting expectations in the best possible way, I am LIVING! Tony the not-alpha just breaks your heart once you learn about the circumstances that made his secrets necessary, and I love the political undertones throughout the fic in general. Also, Mairi (Askafroa) made some truly fantastic art for this that you desperately need to see if you haven't already, it's the cutest! This fic is amazing, and I hope you check it out for yourself!

A Totally Normal Dad

Summary: Steve is a totally normal, boring, suburban, stay-at-home-dad. He's also a superhero. His husband only knows the first sentence.

Reasons why I love it: The Incredibles, but make it Stony. I really love how this ties into canon, and oh my god, that paragraph about Steve wanting to grow old with Tony made me genuinely emotional. Also, Steve and Tony are so sweet with Peter, it makes me want to cry. This fic is amazing, and I highly encourage you to read it!

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 1,354 Tags: No Powers, College AU, Merman Steve

Summary: Sure, a man could fall in love with a merman - but where would they make out?

Reasons why I love it: They're so fucking cute, ugh, I love them. Tony doing his level best to make life more comfortable for Steve is so sweet, and oh my god, the ending puts the biggest smile on my face. I also love the way Steve's merman-ism works and the cameos of the other Avengers in texting-form. This fic is delightful, and I hope you give it a go!

The ‘raise the stakes’ argument only ever applies to female characters in the MCU,  and fans have a right to be upset about it. (Secret Invasion Spoilers!)

I’m getting weird marvel bro DMs about the Talos setting up Maria theory and why I am so wrong but actually I think it’s a pretty good explanation of how such a smart character can fall into such mistakes that seem pretty unusual and echo the mistakes Skrull Maria made with Talos/Skrull Fury in Far From Home. Since episode 3 I can see that theory is likely out the window and i have replaced it with Rhodey as he also knew or assumed that Hill and Fury were together since he intercepted the encrypted message in the first episode although he stated he could not decrypt it. (we do not know if that is true though tbh)

But let’s move on to the real issue here...

the PROBLEM with using Maria’s ‘situation’ as a plot device in the first episode of Secret Invasion is that they are using this  a “real” demise to raise the stakes of the show---but similarly male characters demises are often fake outs/reversed/or they are revived. Yet people like Maria and Natasha do the work when the male heroes are gone or having an emotional crisis. Yet those men get all the credit and they come back from their ill fates and fans cheer. Instead of these women getting similar treatment or ability to retire, have a life or family, or even just rest they get axed in brutal, cold, lonely ways and we are told to move on.

We have yet to see the return of female characters that we have seen with the male ones and if Maria is not important enough to matter that she can be killed solely for a plot device with absolutely no development that she deserved what would be the point of bringing her back? Her death wouldn’t raise the stakes if she’s coming back or can be brought back from death a second time so easily. Yet men can retire, die and come back, and we are not supposed to feel less for the writing and plot? 

Fans are angry about this because as I’ve already addressed a few times in this blog the phase 1 women in the MCU are stuck in a vicious cycle. And particularly, Maria fans were given a lot of Maria content/press/ and interviews that there was going to be something for her that we have been asking for over ten years. The little that has been done with Maria is actually a great testament to her portrayal by Cobie Smulders who has done a lot with what little they give her work with and that’s why Maria has resonated with so many fans.

WIP Update - 26 Jul 2023

Another pretty darned productive writing week!   I touched 7fics (6 WIPs & 1 new work)  for a total of  3233 words - I also posted my 450th work to Ao3 - woo hoo!

I have  18 semi-active WIPs  😬 with my  current  deadlines being the July Break Bingo, which ends 31 Jul and the  Tony Stark This or That   and Hot Bucky Summer events, which both wrap at the end of August.

Seek & Destroy Collab

After reading @psychiccatpanda‘s amazing   Morguna and the Green Queen, I  got the itch to explore the Soldier’s POV and talked  Faustie into   collab’ing with me!  We’re working on a new part of the series, and I’ve  contributed about 900 words towards the  2500-ish we have so far.   Going to see if I can squeeze any of my BBB squares into this fic.  

July Break Bingo  [JBB_23] (Ends 31 Jul)

Signed up for a 3x3 card for this all fandoms, no minimums bingo event  (@julybreakbingo ) because of course I need more prompts!   😁😬  I’m aiming for a blackout with five fills and four WIPs..  I’m playing a bit fast and loose with a few prompts, but I hope y’all enjoy anyways!

* A1 - “I can keep going” -filled this with Chapter 3 of Technicalities  (Stucky professor/student  AU)  which posted this morning as a crossover with my ACB Mutual Pining and SVB Experiment squares.  –  A bit of manual labor brings Professor!Steve and  Student(but not Steve’s student)! Bucky closer together.  It came in at 1297 words.

* A2 - “I think I’m losing my mind.”  Filled this with What Happens in San Francisco…  in combination with the Flash Fiction Friday prompt [#FFF208 Reporting the Scoop]  and a SVB adoptable: Celebration Sex.  It will eventually get posted to Ao3.

* A3  -  Word: Advantage or Antonyms – Filled this with Chapter 3 of A Sugar-Coated Pill (WinterIron Omegaverse Sugar Daddy AU) which posted on Friday and came in at 1341 words. It’s crossing over with my HBS “How Did You Meet?” + High Stakes Op  and  TSTOT  Omegaverse  prompts, along with   my WIB AU: A/B/O square.  Bucky and Tony continue to make a good team, then sugar baby!Tony asks Bucky for a favor.

* B1 - Location: Train Tracks -  combining this with my BBB  Never the Fall that Kills You  square for  an angsty  Winter Soldier fic  - it’s drafted at 271 words and will post  7/29 or 7/30.

* B2 - FREE –  May combine with this week’s  Flash Fiction Friday.  

* B3 - Pining/Longing/Being Needy -  filling this with Chapter 4 of A Sugar-Coated Pill where Bucky has a bit of a problem, and Tony offers to help.  It’s crossing over with HBS Week Nine (”Where do you want me?” + In My Lap), and ACB Mate-Induced Heat  - the chapter is coming in at 1395 words and will post on 7/28.  

* C1 - Location: Art Studio - Filled this with   Teacher, Teacher, Can You Reach Me?     I combined this with my SAUB AU: Teacher and TSB Dares/Bets squares and TSTOT Best Friend prompt for a  Tony & Rhodey bro-fic that is also a SteveTony meet cute.  It came in at 1604 words.

* C2 - Moving In/New Home - filled with Starting Something New,

* C3 - Mutual Pining –  started my Centerfold  Stucky fic -  When This Issue’s Gone is sitting at  a very rough 509 words of backstory. Am not sure this will be ready in time, so Plan B - combine with Technicalities - Chapter 3. 

Hot Bucky Summer [BBE_HBS]  (Ends Aug 30) 

Another @buckybarnesevents  event, this time with weekly smexy prompts.  My goal is to complete at least two fics/chapters per month for this challenge and have actually filled/will fill three of the 4 weeks for June and July so far.  

Week Eight - “How did you meet?” + High Stakes Op -  filled with Chapter 3 of A Sugar-Coated Pill - see JBB   Word: Advantage or Antonyms  above

Week Eleven -  “Give me a color”+ Green/Red/Yellow – This works well with the upcoming Chapter Three  of   Finding Something Fresh -  Beta!Sub!Bucky   and omega!Dom!Steve work on pre-scene negotiations.  It will cross over with SVB Comforting Insecurity - it’s  sitting at 254 words at the moment and will post either 8/11 or 8/16.  

Week Twelve - “Who’s My ___”+ Good Boy -  probably will fit with the future Chapter Four of Finding Something Fresh  - crossing over with SVB  Tied to A Bed.    This chapter would post either 8/18 or 8/23

Week Thirteen -  FREE WEEK -  “Bossy” and “Bondage” are two suggested prompts - I can probably do something with either/both of these for Technicalities or A Sugar Coated Pill . 😁

Excited to see this event (hosted by @tstot ) come back!  When you sign up, you get a card with 10  prompts  in pairs  - so to complete the card, you create five fanworks.   I have two prompts posted and one idea so far.

* 1a - Love Letters  brainstormed with  @somesortofitalianroast and  Meg during the  @buckybarnesbingo  Discord party and will be combining this with my BBB  Fireplace prompt for a  1980′s No Powers WinterIron fic where they discover that someone’s writing them both the same love letters.

* G2 - Nesting - This works with the upcoming Chapter 5 of Sugar-Coated Pill where Bucky and Tony finally get together. I'm combining it with my TSB "Are you there yet?" and WIB Blowjob squares, and possibly BBB KINK: Gentle Sex as well. It's up to 1136 words and will post sometime in August.

* G3 - Established Relationship - planning to fill this with Chapter 2 of   Half of the Flesh and Blood That Makes Me Whole   - a Bucky POV remix of at least the first part of Take What Was Wrong (And Make it Right), which is current sitting at  52 words.  I’m expecting at least one more chapter, possibly two, depending on how far I want to take the remix.

Never thought of shipping all three of them! I've liked Rhodey & Carol before and Maria as a character so I can see the three together being good!

Rhodey/Carol dynamic is like "carol, tell me you didnt—" "I DID!!!!! YOU WERE THERE WHEN I DID IT!"

Carol/Maria dynamic is like carol: sunshine you cannot help but look at. Maria: the shadow that stabs you in the back while you are distracted.

Rhodey/Maria: they're gun bros. Also they brag over who flew the better thing most recently. (Powersuit. Helicarrier. Spaceship. Alien jet fighter)

Rhodey/Carol/Maria are so funny because rhodey and Maria often have to act like the Rational one but they are not. They are NOT rational. And Carol is constantly in their ears like "don't you just want to go crazy....... aren't you tired of being nice".

A fun AU. Some kind of modern day, no superhero, thing. Rhodey gets badgered into joining a veteran meetup to be more social after an injury where he meets Carol who rides bikes too fast now that she's no longer piloting. After the place the vet meet up was hosted at can no longer host the club for whatever reason they get introduced to Maria who co-owns a brewery / gastropub and offers her place for future meetings. And also. Meetings. A pretty lowstakes slice of life au, with some relatively light hearted drama.

Summary: Tony is feeling a little loopy, he knows there is a reason for it but can't seem to remember why. But he is sure there was a reason! And the handsome blonde stranger sitting across him is not helping with thinking straight... OR: Tony goes to the dentist to get his teeth pulled and gets high out of his mind with the sedatives.

Reasons why I love it: This fic is so fucking cute! It's short and fluffy and sweet, the perfect treat if you're looking for a little pick-me-up. Loopy Tony is adorable, and Steve is just the best. I love this fic, and I bet you will too!

Summary: This is just time stolen from a dead world. It doesn’t make it any less beautiful.

Reasons why I love it: The wording throughout this fic is so beautiful. Watching Tony figure out his new life in this changed world is fantastic, especially once he's joined by Steve. And those last few paragraphs made me tear up. This fic is wonderful, and I hope you give it a shot for yourself!

Reasons why I love it: Fucking Fairy Godfury, I'm howling. This one is crackfic at its finest. It's funny and adorable and doesn't take itself too seriously, which I love. Also, Steve and Tony bantering in the kitchen like two lovesick idiots is good stuff. This fic is great, and you should definitely read it!

He is not about to let Tony make the biggest mistake of his life. Reasons why I love it: Poor Tony, man. I'm glad he figured out what he wanted in the end. And Rhodey is such a good bro, my god, we could all use a friend like him, epilogue shenanigans nonwithstanding. Although that was fucking hilarious. I love this one, and I hope you give it a shot!

  To the wider world, Steve Rogers is Captain America, not even Steve Rogers frankly. Cap’s meant to be a valiant fighter and paragon of justice, yadda yadda yadda, all that jazz.

To Steve’s friends, he’s Steve Rogers, just a regular guy from Brooklyn, likes regular things. Honestly, he’s very conventional, if you ignore all the superhero stuff, got married to his childhood sweetheart Bucky, is a damn good artist, a loyal friend, really handsome and rugged, a guy’s guy and gal’s guy too, just a regular bro to hang out with and a reliable friend anyone can trust.
