Battle at the Ziggurat -- David Menehan's cover for Prime Directive: The Star Fleet Universe Role-Playing Game, by Task Force Games, designed by Timothy D Olsen and Mark Costello (1993).
Prime Directive obviously is a Star Trek RPG, but one that does not mention "Star Trek" by name. It was published under the same license as Star Fleet Battles, granted to Stephen V Cole's Amarillo Design Bureau in the late 1970s by Franz Joseph, creator of the 1975 Star Fleet Technical Manual.
Like Star Fleet Battles, Prime Directive is focused on military actions. Player characters are members of a Federation Prime Team, an elite special forces unit assigned to the most dangerous missions.
Prime Directive describes a United Federation of Planets, phasers, and Vulcans, but you won't find Kirk or the Enterprise in this book, even in its detailed Star Fleet Universe Timeline. For that you need Star Trek: The Role Playing Game by FASA (1982-89), based directly on the original series, animated series, and first movie.

Counselor Temrak, USS Östergötland NCC-72227
The Östergötland is a Norway-class starship with an expanded Cetacean Ops with cetaceans sharing helm, engineering, security, science and medical positions. Lt. Temrak is the ship's counselor and an NPC in our Star Trek Adventures tabletop RPG campaign.
And I drew him wearing a tie.

Finished my portrait of my Star Trek TTRPG character Sotek! He is a Vulcan Starfleet engineer, a lieutenant to be precise.

I've always loved this excerpt from Modiphius' Star Trek RPG. The idea that an AI would chose to save humans instead of kill them is ... very Trek. And yes, Perimeter, or Система «Периметр», also known (rather melodramatically imo) as "Dead Hand", is real - though it's evidently semi-automatic in reality, not an AI-powered fully-automatic system as described here. Ofc given WW3 happened in the 2050s in Trek history, and our own IRL tech advances, saying it got an AI system upgrade is plausible. We don't know how many missiles each of the belligerents in WW3 had, but, if we assume it's a similar number to today, it would be around 9,600 warheads. At the stated 2-3% hit rate here, that's still around 290 nuclear detonations. Considering the shots we saw in SNW of major cities being hit, a 600 million death toll seems plausible, even with only ~290 warheads hitting their targets. Point is, this is super cool worldbuilding, and an example of how Star Trek can take a dystopian sci-fi cliche and turn it into something hopeful.

I wish more TTRPGs gave good advice for making encounters
I feel like a lot of ttrpgs don't give very good advice for making encounters, and the fanbases for these TTRPGs are not much better. DnD for example has the CR system that straight up doesn't work, with people in the fandom saying "Oh, don't worry about balanced encounters."
Same with Star Trek 2d20, Call of Cthulhu, and the Fantasy Flight Star Wars RPGs. Only really PF2e has an encounter design system that seems to actually work, that the game often points to and tells you about.
I get that for less combat focused games, like Call of Cthulhu, there's less emphasis on making a balanced combat, but even for more narrative focused games that have a combat system, I feel like there should be some advice for making a balanced combat, if only so when the players inevitably fail to prevent the cultist's plans, and have to raid the base, you can give them at least a fighting chance. With Star Wars ffg this is especially egregious, as I followed the instructions in the book to make Sith Inquisitors for the players to fight, and near universally, they got stomped.
Maybe I'm an idiot, I don't know. But I feel like if combat is a part of your game, and has fully fleshed out mechanics, there should be some balance to it.
What are some TTRPGs aside from PF2e that have good system for making balanced combats?

why does "move along home" consistently get placed in those "worst star trek episodes of all time" lists when every actual person i've spoken to about it is either neutral towards it or likes it and thinks it's good corny fun
