The term “social transition” has a non-trans history in the psychology of adolescence. In the 1980s, it was an operative metaphor for describing adolescence through the American trope of a rocky period of self-making, what one psychologist in 1978 termed “the difficulty of adolescence as a transitional period.” The primary “transition” that concerned psychologists at the time was school, where social shifts in friend groups and hierarchies from middle school to high school affected a young person’s self-esteem and mental integrity, resulting either in positive self-actualization or, if the social transition went poorly, “problem behavior.”³
The term “social transition” was only later adopted by psychologists and psychiatrists looking to powerfully expand their jurisdiction over trans youth to include entirely non-medical practices that often spur parents to reject or harm their kids: wearing a dress, cutting or growing out hair, wearing a binder or a bra, wearing makeup, or adopting a new name and pronouns. Making those banal but concrete practices of changing gender into psychiatric events was intended to convince anxious and angry parents that they shouldn’t put down their children. By the same token, tying practices of clothing and self-description to healthy development overinflated them with a pathological degree of significance, upping the ante and creating a lucrative target, both for parents of trans youth who wanted to stop their children from transitioning and, now, politicians.
I don’t mean to imply that psychiatry directly caused HB 2885, just that it clearly holds one part of the blame for inventing the root vulnerability that Gragg has taken advantage of in Missouri. If anything, the attachment of sex offender felonies to a teacher complimenting a teenager’s haircut exposes, once and for all, how fraudulent the medicalization of transition has been all along. Gragg can claim the right of the state to control children’s dress and speech (masquerading as the rights of parents) through teachers and counselors, in part, because psychiatry and medicine first claimed the right to regulate trans youth’s practices of transition.
Still, the causal events that led to HB 2885 run far deeper than the shallow history of “social transition” as an especially foolish psychiatric fiction. Here lies the far bigger problem raised by this bill. Not only will psychiatrists prove to be the least effective political allies of trans youth in Missouri, but contemporary queer and transgender culture’s elevation of the private right to dress as the sine qua non of politics is also quite useless as a political strategy.
Part of what I gather stuns in bills like HB 2885 is their audacity. The law would target the most conservative, least politically subversive of all transgender practices: individual style, identification, and language-use. In the case of minors, “social transition” is also a cheap compromise offered to young people who are refused blockers and hormones by disapproving parents and doctors, but that compromise is offered in a broader queer and transgender culture that has elevated self-identification through style as the ultimate arbiter of being transgender, making it much harder to advocate for a genuine right to transition for anyone, teenager or adult.

Students have very limited First Amendment rights on school campuses, meaning that they cannot present themselves as private individuals enjoying the right to dress as they please.⁷Their self-expression is governed from the outset by a competing set of custodians, from parents to schoolteachers, to psychiatrists and doctors, to the Missouri House of Representatives. Trans youth’s interests are therefore materially extraneous to the mainline of contemporary queer and transgender culture, whose architects were wealthy, college-educated adults whose prior enjoyment of full-citizenship was the very reason they demanded only the affirmation of a right to dress.
I suspect that part of the genuine shock of bills like HB 2885 is that most people reasoned that LGBT liberalism’s elevation of the private individual over all other political concerns would inoculate dress and language from state interference. It evidently has not. What perhaps has been misunderstood, then, is how the state exercises power. The law cannot prohibit being transgender, for there is no such state of being. The state has no need to target people’s interior selves, either, for the law can seize people where it always has, in concrete social practices that it simply declares are the undesirable traits of transgender people—namely, practices of transition.

Our body is is naturally very good at healing. When we get injured, the first thing our body has to do is protect the wound. Platelets help clot the blood and stop your bleeding, and white blood cells work to clear debris and fight off bacterial invaders. Then the real healing begins Our white cells produce extracellular vesicles (EVs) that act as our body's "construction crews", promoting blood vessel formation and reducing inflammation as the tissue recovers.
Most of the methods we use to treat injuries to the skin involve helping out the body during the first stage- stitches to keep the wound closed and stop bleeding, antibiotics to help kill bacteria, and bandages to keep dirt and debris away from the healing wound. But a research team developed a new form of wound therapy designed to help expedite the second stage of healing.
PAINT, or portable bioactive ink for tissue healing, works not by clearing the environment to make the body's work easier, but by delivering additional EVs, or construction crews, into the body. The EVs are harvested from macrophages, a type of immune cell that digests debris and pathogens in the body. The EVs are mixed with a hydrogel for stability and then "painted" onto a wound with a 3D printing pen, forming a solid gel in about 3 minutes. Here is a video of it in action!
The EVs were tested on injured mice, and found that they significantly promoted the development of collagen fibers and accelerated the healing process. Here is an image of a simulated wound after 14 days of healing with no intervention and with 2 different concentrations of PAINT.

"In the oldest and most prestigious young adult science competition in the nation, 17-year-old Ellen Xu used a kind of AI to design the first diagnosis test for a rare disease that struck her sister years ago.
With a personal story driving her on, she managed an 85% rate of positive diagnoses with only a smartphone image, winning her $150,000 grand for a third-place finish.
Kawasaki disease has no existing test method, and relies on a physician’s years of training, ability to do research, and a bit of luck.
Symptoms tend to be fever-like and therefore generalized across many different conditions. Eventually if undiagnosed, children can develop long-term heart complications, such as the kind that Ellen’s sister was thankfully spared from due to quick diagnosis.
Xu decided to see if there were a way to design a diagnostic test using deep learning for her Regeneron Science Talent Search medicine and health project. Organized since 1942, every year 1,900 kids contribute adventures.
She designed what is known as a convolutional neural network, which is a form of deep-learning algorithm that mimics how our eyes work, and programmed it to analyze smartphone images for potential Kawasaki disease.
However, like our own eyes, a convolutional neural network needs a massive amount of data to be able to effectively and quickly process images against references.
For this reason, Xu turned to crowdsourcing images of Kawasaki’s disease and its lookalike conditions from medical databases around the world, hoping to gather enough to give the neural network a high success rate.
Xu has demonstrated an 85% specificity in identifying between Kawasaki and non-Kawasaki symptoms in children with just a smartphone image, a demonstration that saw her test method take third place and a $150,000 reward at the Science Talent Search."

Article Review - The Liver After Quitting Alcohol
Here is a quick summary/reflection on this article:
1. The liver is introduced as the largest internal organ and that it functions to break down toxins like alcohol. When alcohol is consumed excessively (more than 14 units), the liver undergoes the following changes: becomes fatty > healing from inflammation forming scars > many scars forming cirrhosis > liver fails > fatal outcomes. Symptoms associated with liver dysfunction are exhibited at late stages of impact.
2. Quitting alcohol has varying effects, depending on the condition of the liver. At the fatty stage, two to three weeks are sufficient to heal it back to normal appearance and function. For mild scarring/inflammation, a week can show significant improvements in the condition although full recovery may take months. With advanced cirrhosis or liver failure (where the liver is unlikely to cure itself completely), worsening of the condition or death could be prevented if followed through for many years. However, this withdrawal cannot be done suddenly, as it poses physical and psychological dangers and a medical professional has to be involved in planning a safe quitting programme in such cases.
3. Giving up alcohol also reflects benefits beyond the liver and improves outcomes in sleep, brain function and blood health. It also prevents cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Quitting should be integrated with practices like a good diet and regular physical activity to observe the best results.

I started to just take it easy on myself today, but I didn't I lifted weights and sprinted and TODAY WAS LEG DAY!!! I am so glad that I didn't just do yoga, because I would have felt sad. I ate a good meal too I feel good, drank water. A man even complimented how much weight I deadlifted and I was surprised anyone noticed cause I don't slam weights. Starting studying later on today after a meeting and a nap. I can do this! I still need to get another job in addition to my current job . I need to finish my schooling.
