"Duality of Human Nature: A Review of 'The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde' by Robert Louis Stevenson"
Tumblr media
Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is a timeless classic that delves into the depths of human psychology, exploring the dualities that exist within each individual. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of Victorian London, Stevenson's novella follows the story of Dr. Henry Jekyll, a respected scientist, and his mysterious alter ego, Mr. Edward Hyde. Through the eyes of Mr. Utterson, Jekyll's friend and lawyer, readers are drawn into a tale of suspense, intrigue, and moral ambiguity that continues to captivate audiences over a century after its initial publication.
At the heart of the novella lies the exploration of the duality of human nature—the eternal struggle between good and evil, virtue and vice. Stevenson masterfully depicts Dr. Jekyll's internal conflict as he grapples with the darker aspects of his personality that are embodied by Mr. Hyde. Through Jekyll's scientific experiments and subsequent transformation into Hyde, Stevenson raises profound questions about the nature of identity, morality, and the consequences of unchecked desires. The novella serves as a cautionary tale, warning readers of the dangers of suppressing one's true self and the potential consequences of yielding to temptation.
One of the most striking aspects of "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is Stevenson's skillful use of atmosphere and setting to create a sense of foreboding and unease. The fog-shrouded streets of London, the dimly lit alleys, and the eerie silence of the city at night serve as the perfect backdrop for the unfolding mystery. Stevenson's vivid descriptions evoke a palpable sense of dread, drawing readers into a world where danger lurks around every corner and the boundaries between reality and nightmare blur.
Moreover, the novella is populated by a cast of memorable characters, each representing different facets of human nature. From the upright and respectable Dr. Jekyll to the sinister and malevolent Mr. Hyde, Stevenson's characters are complex and multidimensional, reflecting the inherent contradictions and complexities of the human psyche. Through their interactions, Stevenson explores themes of morality, guilt, and the consequences of sin, inviting readers to confront their own capacity for darkness and self-deception.
As the plot unfolds, Stevenson masterfully builds suspense, leading readers on a journey of discovery as they uncover the truth behind Dr. Jekyll's transformation into Mr. Hyde. With each revelation, the tension mounts, culminating in a shocking climax that leaves readers breathless and questioning the nature of humanity itself. "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is a masterpiece of psychological horror that continues to resonate with readers today, reminding us of the eternal struggle between light and darkness that exists within us all.
Robert Louis Stevenson's "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" is available in Amazon in paperback 10.99$ and hardcover 17.99$ editions.

From starved and stressed to satiated and (a bit less) stressed, yippee ! He will nap for the whole next week
Thought about having the wrist held out for Idia at first but when you think about it if anything bites into your wrist it will fuck up all the tendons more likely than biting in the biceps (a bite must hurt as hell either way though, I remember once getting a volleyball hit right on the inner wrists right below the hands and it felt so painful already)

Jiang Cheng is the picture of “I knew from the moment I met you that I’d spend a lifetime forgiving you.”
Like—start with the dogs. The only gift his father ever gave him, and Jiang Cheng gave them away. Why? Because Wei Wuxian was scared of them. That’s it. No resistance. No conflict. Just: oh, you’re afraid? They’re gone.
That is the blueprint. That is the foundational dynamic. That is the relationship.
His father resents him, prefers his shixiong. His mother tears him down for not being his shixiong. His sister, bless her, loves both of them—but it’s Wei Wuxian who gets the hand on the shoulder, the soft words, the shared wine. And yet. Jiang Cheng never once chooses bitterness over devotion.
He loves him. That’s the tragedy. That’s the rot. Because he never stops.
Wei Wuxian gets dragged into the Burial Mounds and comes back fundamentally altered, and Jiang Cheng still believes in him. Still gives him room to return. Still duels him instead of executing him outright, still spares him even when the sect is watching. Still tells Jin Ling to be kind to him. Still keeps Chenqing in perfect condition, like a grave he refuses to let crumble. Even when Wei Wuxian’s choices leave him hollowed out. Even when all he has left is silence. He still carries him.
And the thing is—Jiang Cheng’s sacrifices are quiet. He never says them. But we know. We know that when he was captured by the Wens, he let himself be caught. On purpose. Because if he didn’t distract them, Wei Wuxian would’ve died.
We know that when Wei Wuxian said, “I can fix this,” Jiang Cheng believed him with his whole heart. And when Wei Wuxian smiled that soft, golden smile, and said “Don’t worry,” Jiang Cheng didn’t. Because when your entire world is falling apart, and your brilliant, impossible shixiong tells you he has a plan—you believe him. That’s what love is.
And when he disappeared? When he died?
Jiang Cheng never believed it.
He said there was no proof. But it always read like something else to me. Like: “I’d know if he was gone. I’d feel it. He’s part of me. I would know.”
This man spent years believing he murdered the person he loved most in the world. And he still couldn’t bring himself to throw the flute away.
Tell me that’s not love. Tell me that’s not the worst kind. The kind that doesn’t die even when it should.

You know what's sick as hell about the design of the Briar Senates??? It's that their design mirrors the weapon of the Draconias 😭✨
Tumblr media
I know they're getting flak rn bcs they feel like "boomers who's against any progress because they value toxic tradition" but i don't really think they're like... entirely evil lol or the root of every bad thing that happened in Malleus'/Lilia's life (though im side eyeing them as one of the perpetrators still lol)
Tbh, removing them would also cause more harm (just some social issues inside the fae society tbh) than good imo, (I know many ppl say this bcs they think removing the Senates would make it possible for the peace between human and faes, but the thing is, the Senates aren't the only group that thinks this way, almost the entirety of Briar Valley does lol so forcibly removing them now would only come off as "Malleus forcing "human ideals" on the faes just because he has spent 4 years with the humans"(plus is the understanding between humans and faes truly achieved if you try to silence one group(even if that group is kinda disagreeable with anything human related lol), plus realistically the faes would trust their fellow faes first rather than some humans,
so for me, Briar Senates doesn't give off the vibe of toxic old people who drags others down in their toxic practices (while that can be an accurate description i feel like it generalizes too much about their behaviour), rather than that, Briar Senates feels more like thorns, like thorns that surrounds Briar Valley, they're not exactly harmful unless you go against them, but ultimately they're still protection for Briar Valley.
Which makes it fitting that their design has a similarity with the Draconia's weapon, they're the thorns that protects the Draconias, even if it means sheltering them.
And, tbh, if the Senates other job is to ensure Draconias lives, they're kinda doing a "decent job"??? If we can assume through Maleficia's (and Malleus' case), since we didnt hear about her leaving the Senate's side, she managed to survive for so long, unlike Meleanor😭 Also could explain why they're so enraged when Lilia arrived with the news that Meleanor died and why they hated the weak bcs what would weakness could protect JJDSJD Kinda wish their hatred against Lilia wasnt that he was a weak bat fae, but rather they doubled down on the fact he failed protecting Meleanor, imagine if Gen. Lilia wasnt as great in magic as the fae nobles were, yet he still managed to earn a position beside the Princess, all that hard work only to fail at the most crucial time, it wouldve make sense in the Senates' side to say, "Meleanor shouldnt have appointed him" (because "he's weak from the start")
oh additionally, this is just my assumption, bcs I felt like the way the Senates recoiled when Lilia hatched the egg was kinda... random?? so this is my made up reason lol Remember, the Senates were adamant that Maleficia should only be the one to hatch the egg because she's a Draconia, but Lilia did it and he's not a Draconia, What if because Lilia hatched the egg, it also affected the development of Malleus?? Like maybe for instance, it affected Malleus' lifespan, maybe he still lives more than one thousand years but he won't live for another thousand years like a pure Draconia because he's been hatched by Lilia as opposed to who they wanted it to be, which is Maleficia, OF COURSE Lilia hatching the egg is heaps better than Malleus dying before being born, but this is just my auto thoughts regarding the random hate reaction the Senates did when Lilia hatched Malleus lol
Interestingly, the placement of the stone of Draconia against the thorns (of the Senates) can also be hinted at their relationship with them??? In Meleanor's case, her stone is on top of the thorns, which may indicate that she's not under the Senate's commands or that its just telling she just lived distantly from the Senates, most importantly her stone is bigger than the thorns which may tell the fact that the Senates worships her because she's powerful and greater than them, and she's not someone who can be trapped/ordered around within the Senates. But, tragically, in Malleus' case, his stone is under the thorns, like its telling that he's under the Senates protection at all cost and his stone is little compared to Meleanor's because he's still young.
I also have a theory that the Senates are part of Briar Valley's land, like its been canonically said that they're the dead faes of Briarland, which makes think that their death is similar to the death of Conall from Maleficent 2, when Conall was buried, his body literally morphed to the land, which makes me think this is how the Senates used to be buried, when they die, they become one with the land, that's why you can't just remove them, when they are literally the Lands of Briar Valley,,,, get it lol
Tumblr media
Though this is making me think that if this is the case then Maleficia's city,,, if the Senate's presence are the strongest there bcs that's where they're nearly buried, does that mean around Black Scale Castle is just lowkey a graveyard.... Is that why Halloween is special for Briar Valley bcs they have close ties/respect for the dead and Halloween is essentially about honoring the dead 😭✨
Off topic, but maybe the thorns part of the Draconia's staff may also tell about their age. Notice how Meleanor's staff has 3 twists which may tell that she's atleast 300~ years old, (if each twists signifies a century), while Malleus' staff only has one twist on its thorns which is accurate considering he's only 178 years old (one century).
If this is true, I'm kinda curious about Maleficia's staff... does that mean hers will be convered in thorns (she needs at least 7 twists (7 centuries~ and more) there on her staff 😭✨)

No One Touches What's Mine (Leon x Reader)
Victor only brushed your back when he handed you the dossier. Leon saw. Leon ended him.
After a bullet to the skull and a whispered "no one touches what's mine," you see the version of Leon no one else does—the man behind the mission, unraveling quietly for you. His love isn’t hearts and roses—it’s blood on the walls, shredded intel, and promises whispered like oaths: "I’d gut God if He looked at you wrong."
You should be scared. You’re not. And that’s the most dangerous part.
Read if you like: 🖤 dark obsession 🖤 possessive, unhinged lovers 🖤 heavy tension & blurred morality 🖤 watching your sanity fray under his gaze 🖤 “I killed for you. Now let me prove it.”
Tumblr media
It started with a gunshot. One clean pop. A single breath of thunder.
The bullet punched through Victor’s skull like a secret whispered straight through his brain. Right temple in, left temple out—crimson mist sprayed across the wall behind him, a wet signature of death. The silence that followed wasn’t silence at all. It was a moment held hostage. A tension strung so tight it could snap bone.
Victor crumpled. Twitch. Collapse. Nothing. And Leon stood there, arm outstretched, pistol still raised, body calm. The muzzle smoked lazily in the dim hallway light, like the ghost of rage was still drifting off his barrel.
You didn’t scream. You didn’t move. You couldn’t. Your breath caught in your throat, not from fear—but from something far more dangerous. A dark understanding. A terrible, irreversible truth.
He turned to you. Leon Kennedy. Not the clean-cut operative. Not the golden boy of Raccoon City. No—this man wasn’t tactical, wasn’t stable, wasn’t safe. He was the monster that crawled out of the wreckage and learned to love. And you were the only thing keeping him from going feral completely. Or maybe the only thing he wanted to destroy himself for.
“You okay?” he asked, voice like steel wrapped in silk.
You didn’t answer. Your body swayed, but he caught you. Of course he did. One strong arm coiled around your waist, pulling you flush against him, the scent of smoke and blood soaking into your lungs.
“I warned him,” Leon murmured, thumb brushing your cheekbone with disturbing tenderness. “Told him once—no one touches what’s mine.”
Three Days Earlier
You’d been gearing up in the safehouse locker room when Victor slid a dossier into your hand, his palm grazing your lower back. Too casual. Too comfortable. You brushed it off, as usual. Leon didn’t. From the other side of the room, he watched. Quiet. Unblinking. Not a man. A weapon.
That night, the same dossier showed up shredded on your cot. Ripped down the middle, soaked in what smelled like scotch and spite. You confronted him, teeth bared.
“Did you seriously destroy a mission file because you got jealous?”
Leon didn’t look up from cleaning his knife. Just kept polishing the blade like it was a fucking mirror into his mind. “This isn’t jealousy.” He finally spoke, low and deliberate. “This is what I look like when I’m being merciful.”
You scoffed. “You’re not the fucking Punisher, Leon.”
He stepped forward, close enough that your back hit the wall. The tension snapped tight, so thick you could taste it.
“No,” he said, almost gently. “I’m worse.”
Present – After the Shot
The blood still clung to your boots. Still warm. Still glistening like fresh paint. Leon’s fingers pressed into your hip with bruising force, holding you against the cold concrete wall. “I didn’t want to scare you,” he said quietly, forehead resting against yours. “But I’m not letting this happen again.”
His breath dragged across your lips. “No more near touches. No more stolen glances. No more of that fucking smirk he gave you.”
You opened your mouth. He pressed two fingers to it. “You think I’m sick?” he asked. “You’re right.”
His mouth found your throat. One soft kiss. One scrape of teeth. “I don’t want normal. I don’t want peace.” His voice broke. “I want you. Every part. Even the ones you’re afraid to give.”
You didn’t push him away. You didn’t stop him. You should have. Instead, your head tilted. Just a little. Just enough. And that’s all he needed.
Safehouse Bedroom – Later
The sheets were rumpled. Your gun holster hung from the bedframe. Leon sat at the edge of the mattress, shirtless, scars on full display—each one a love letter from hell. His hand rested over your bare stomach, fingers splayed, warm and heavy. Possessive. “You’re not afraid anymore,” he said, almost in awe.
You turned your face toward him. “Maybe I should be.”
He leaned down. Kissed your jaw. Your throat. “But you’re not.”
You weren’t. And that scared you more than the gun in his holster.
Tumblr media
The obsession grew like a mold in your life. Leon watched you when you spoke to others. Sometimes said nothing. Sometimes stared hard enough to burn holes through them. You found your necklace once—one you’d lost weeks ago—tucked into his vest pocket. He never told you how he got it. And then the note. Folded into your glove like a secret.
“Don’t trust them. Don’t even smile at them. They don’t see you like I do. They don’t deserve you.”
You burned it. But not before reading it three times.
Tumblr media
You stood at the edge of the safehouse’s old balcony, moonlight cutting across your skin. He stepped up behind you, arms caging you in, chest against your back.
“How far would you go for me?” you asked softly.
Leon didn’t miss a beat. “I’d gut God himself if He looked at you wrong.”
You turned to face him. His eyes were wild. Raw. Real. He cradled your face in both hands, thumb dragging over your lower lip.
“I’d burn the whole world,” he whispered, “just to make sure no one ever touches what’s mine again.”
His kiss that followed wasn’t a promise. It was a possession.
