Mean Girls Become Mean Moms
"The Terrifyingly Nasty, Backstabbing, and Altogether Miserable World of the Suburban Mom"
By Julie Suratt
Excerpts:
"Here I’d thought all moms were in this muddle together—one big happy family, for better or for worse—when actually, just the opposite is true. It turns out that suburban life is dictated by the kind of tribal behavior I thought we’d grown out of: popular girls and their obsequious minions willing to do anything to fit in. But this time, with kids, money, and jobs on the line, the stakes are even higher. And so you have countless grown women cowering behind their beautifully trimmed hedges in bucolic towns around Boston, trying to avoid getting 'fired' from their friend circle while simultaneously hating every minute they have to spend with those ladies who lunch. It’s a mom-eat-mom world out there, and I was pretty sure the Wayland Yacht Club was just the tip of the iceberg in this particular suburban nightmare."
"Ironically, Leslie suspects her Queen Bee, whose husband is in sales, doesn’t have that kind of money to lay out. 'She puts a lot of effort into looking like she’s got more than she does'—shopping on eBay for designer brands, carrying a Whole Foods reusable bag but shopping at Market Basket, and doing her nails at home—'yet ‘checking in’ from a salon on Facebook,' Leslie says incredulously. She always put herself in charge of the check at dinner, and 'she’d put in less than everybody else—after ordering more drinks and expensive food,' Leslie adds."
"Of course, there’s a flip side to a Queen Bee’s charm: They often use emotional bribery to keep their minions loyal. They get close very quickly to learn secrets that can be used against people at a later date. 'I’ve seen clients in tears talking about how they’d discuss a marital issue with the Queen Bee, and then it would be shared with the group,' Hurowitz says. 'Queen Bees believe that they are in charge of disseminating information, and that’s part of how they maintain power.' Had Melissa done that to me? I’ll admit that although I’d walked in with eyes wide open, our conversation got personal fast."
"Leslie says her Queen Bee booted her because she decided that she 'hadn’t behaved in a manner befitting of the group' at a party. 'I wasn’t feeling well and had only half a drink,' Leslie explains. But the Queen Bee thought Leslie was drunk—a no-no among these ladies, who seem to think it’s their job to keep the suburbs clean and morally upright. 'They’d created this perfect image of themselves, and they wanted everything to exemplify this image,' she says—even as they stabbed each other in the back in their attempts to clamber up the social ladder."

Leaders, Are You Building a Safe Space or Breeding Fear?
The Line Between Leadership and Bullying
Here’s the hard truth: The real test of leadership is how you respond when someone disagrees with you.
Do you shut them down or invite them in?
Psychological safety and challenge safety are not just buzzwords—they are fundamental to creating a thriving team. If your team feels afraid to speak up or challenge your ideas, you may have a problem on your hands.
❗ Warning Signs You’re Leading Through Fear:
People agree with everything you say, no matter what.
You notice a lack of diverse ideas or innovation in meetings.
Your team gives you the bare minimum instead of their best work.
So, how can you create an environment where people feel safe to disagree?
3 Tips to Build a Culture of Psychological Safety:
🧠 Invite Dissenting Opinions: Actively ask for opposing viewpoints in meetings. Show your team that differing ideas are not just tolerated—they’re welcomed. You might be surprised at the innovative solutions that arise when you foster a space for debate.
🗣️ Listen Without Judgment: When someone disagrees, resist the urge to react defensively. Pause, listen, and ask clarifying questions. Leaders who can manage their ego and avoid defensiveness build trust and respect.
💡 Encourage “Challenge” Moments: Create dedicated times where team members are encouraged to challenge ideas, processes, or even you as the leader. This can be done in a structured, respectful manner, ensuring everyone’s voice is heard and valued.
The Bottom Line? Leaders who embrace disagreement aren’t weak—they’re the ones who create environments where creativity and innovation flourish.
What’s your strategy for encouraging healthy disagreements in the workplace? Drop your thoughts in the comments below!

We have way too many adult bullies in the world. People think that by not saying something to them, they’re keeping the peace and keeping the bullies at bay, when actually the opposite is true. By standing up to them, you will gain respect no matter their decision henceforth.

As someone who’s living with a middle school social studies teacher, all the posts along the lines of “why did we never learn about this historical event in school” just make me go “because your teacher was supposed to cover all of US history in one year, and they didn’t get to the Revolutionary War until Halloween because they were urged to slow down the progression of the lessons because a more senior teacher was running behind, and they didn’t get to the Civil War until Valentine’s Day because the school kept scheduling every special event during social studies because there’s no end-of-grade testing for that subject, and they didn’t get to WWI until May because they were sick for a few days and the substitute couldn’t do much more than babysit, and now they’re having to do the entire Cold War in two days, so that’s why you didn’t hear about the lesbian inventor of the circus peanut. They would have loved to tell you about the lesbian inventor of the circus peanut!”

I hate it when I get caught down a clickbait rabbit hole with those stories about how people get screwed by other people. Those stories just stay with me and I hate how they make me feel.

makes me a little sad when star trek ignores IDIC. like. vulcans are logical. that is true. But 'logical', for vulcans, does not amount to 'without compassion,' and it definitely doesn't amount to 'racial superiority.' Belief in 'infinite diversity in infinite combinations' should NOT result in the weird racist/speciest stuff we're getting in some of the newer treks. It does make sense that some vulcans are discriminatory. They're still flawed. But that should not be common or expected, like it seems to be in SNW. If it is, then it's a race of hypocrites, which. doesn't seem very true to Star Trek's message.
I think TOS Spock does a pretty good job of embodying this. Not always, it was the 60s, after all, but mostly. He was often trying to find non-violent routes, and get by without killing - even if they were in danger or had already been attacked. (See: the mugato, and the horta (until Kirk was the one in danger, lmao. t'hy'la > IDIC), the Gorn ship). Kirk, in his eulogy, calls him the most human soul he's ever known, and I've always read that as Kirk calling out Spock's overwhelming compassion.
It's just so much more interesting when Vulcans get to be radically compassionate. I want them to believe that everything and everyone has value. I want them to respect all ways of being. I want them to find ways for even very non-humanoid aliens to exist unfettered in society. I want them to see hybrids and think that it's amazing. Also, like, disability rep. I want Vulcans to have The Most Accessible Planet and available resources because they want everyone to feel accepted and valued. It makes for better characters and more interesting stories.

this is the stupidest crossover possible but I want Tim to make House his doctor
yes that House
Tumblr media
why? He needs someone who is very good, will not give up or send Tim out to a different specialist just because his medical condition is difficult, will not be overly concerned about the danger Tim puts himself in, and will lie on Tim's medical records AND to Batman/Bruce Wayne/all of the Bats without hesitation or fear.
House is and will do all of those things without hesitation. He has no shame, no boundaries, he WILL get into a public fight with Bruce Wayne if it means keeping that man out of his patient's (and House's) business. He will help Tim lie to and gaslight the rest of his family without hesitation.
in exchange, Tim is his favorite patient. Not because they get along, necessarily, Tim is a know-it-all little shit and they constantly bicker and House hates how practically every facet of Tim's existence is a lie (and Tim thinks House is a smug know-it-all jackass who is needlessly cruel and callous bc he thinks the world owes him and never delivers just bc he's in pain, news flash a lot of people are in pain and manage not to be assholes) BUT, 1, Tim brings him really interesting cases and problems, and 2, Tim NEVER lies to House about his medical conditions or what he was doing when they happened.
He lies about literally almost everything else under the sun TO everyone else, but he is 100% completely upfront and honest about his medical history and what is going on with him with House.
admittedly it takes a while for House to realize Tim ISN'T lying to him because some of the shit he says is completely insane ("the vigilante thing is pretty obvious but what do you MEAN you got the Apocalypse virus TWICE, AND SURVIVED, AS A FOURTEEN-FIFTEEN YEAR OLD")
but once he realizes Tim doesn't ever lie to him, he becomes House's favorite patient because at least TIM gives him all of the data he needs as best he's able the moment he asks. At least House doesn't have to waste his time following up on bogus information or figuring out the truth, he can just get right into the meat of the medical issue at hand.
also it's so fun to lie directly to Batman's face, know the man knows, and know he can't do anything about it

Them: what I would never bully anyone for being autistic? Who would bully someone for being autistic???
Me: did you ever make fun of someone because they didn’t follow social norms or maybe did something differently?
Them: well yeah cause they were being weird!
Me: yeah but as an autistic child, sometimes we might do things differently and not follow or understand the social norms and rules. You were being mean because someone’s brain worked differently.

Dc x dp idea 106
Danny up and left amity when he turned 18. he couldn’t handle the stress anymore. The long nights, barely passing.
It was only in his last few months that he and the ghost made an agreement. Most of them just wanted to spar. Ember was content with an online music a career. He got box ghost in a factory packing boxes.
They all knew to avoid and stay away from his parents at this point.
Still. Skulker and others were just to much. So he Left for college without telling anyone where he went. Ended up graduating early with a degree in engineering.
He gets hired to work in space!! In the watchtower.
Everything was fine and normal. No ghost, no issues, and best of all no mad scientist bent on genocide.
Now. He wasn’t expecting to get to work to witness nightwing chasing Youngblood around. How did that man even see him.
Nor did he expect Youngblood jumping on his back and screaming at him to protect him from the bully. And ignoring him wouldn’t even work as Youngblood to called him by name.
Then Youngblood to scream at him for leaving without so much as a goodbye. For leaving them with his parents still around.
Maybe nightwing won’t say anything? Yea right.
Not with his Fenton luck.
