thinking about the passenger pigeon, martha, and carolina parakeet, inca, the last presumed members of their species dying only a few years apart in the same enclosure at cincinnati zoo

thinking about the last kauaʻi ʻōʻō, calling out their part of a duet with no one left to return it

thinking of the last breeding pair of great auks, who were killed by fisherman. clumsy on land, they ran to the sea to escape. their carcasses were sold on the mainland, and their single egg accidentally crushed underfoot in the chase

thinking of the last heath hen, booming ben, last seen on his lekking grounds, standing alone with no one to display to or compete with

thinking of the last dusky seaside sparrow, orange band, dying alone of old age on a nature preserve

thinking of all the birds that went quietly, without us noticing.

i think ghost would really like animals. like as a coping mechanism he just tends to watch a bunch of nature documentaries just as background noise but just ends up absorbing himself in them

and he's a little embarrassed abt it bc oh big macho man simon ghost riley knows a lot of animal facts?? isn't that super cringe??

so he just decides he'll take it to the grave with him. yep nobody needs to know

he just initiates his ritual of putting on an animal documentary when he goes to sleep and soap is so confused?? and ghost kind of forgot soap was in bed with him LMAO

he goes to turn it off but soap encourages him to keep it on

occasionally asks him for some animal facts every day. once ghost stops thinking he's making fun of him he just enjoys telling him abt it. it's just a sweet bonding time for them

Hi! I'm sorry to make you feel excluded! As I mentioned in the post, the plan was to do more (in fact, the original plan was to post two designs a week during pride month) but I am disabled and have been really struggling to make art (or do much of anything tbh!) for several weeks now.

Unfortunately that meant that the lesbian flag, nonbinary flag, pan flag, and aro flag, all didn't manage to get done. In fact, this ask makes me a little sad because the lesbian flag one was actually next on my list, to the point where I had finished the lineart but not the colouring (for what it's worth, it's a tiel with carnations)

I hope this clears things up a bit - I wasn't actively excluding a flag, it's just been a rough few weeks disability-wise. I hope you had a good pride month, and I hope you feel seen by other lesbian representation! (I also have some other lesbian pride art from previous years!)
