exploring unexplained darkner lore: WHEN does a darkner gain consciousness, exactly?
alternate title: WOODY THEORY IS ACTUALLY RELEVANT BUT NOT IN THE WAY WE THOUGHT??? MAYBE???
there are so many unanswered questions regarding how darkners and dark worlds “work” and i’m really fascinated by the worldbuilding put out so far - but we still don’t really know what the deal is, not really.
the way ralsei explains dark worlds in chapter 3 basically tells us what we already know, but explicitly - darkners are objects in the light world. they’re not “real” and derive “purpose” from being needed by lightners (which is a whole can of worms.)
as evidenced by lancer’s “all gone!” reaction to susie asking where his dark world went in chapter 2, sealing dark fountains DOES effectively destroy the world, but not necessarily the people inside it (if you decide to recruit them.) there’s an obvious ethical dilemma here that’s been on people’s minds since chapter 1 came out. to me, the biggest question is:
does the dark world always exist, inaccessible to lightners, or is it physically created and destroyed on the same day? are the fountains portals or creators?
the repeated phrase “the unending pillar of darkness that gives my body form” (ralsei’s unused manual)/“the dark fountain that gives the world form” (tv time credits) (there might be more instances im forgetting idk) does imply the latter, as well as the descriptions of “creating fountains” “making dark worlds” as opposed to, say, “opening doors” to them.
but the concept of time here is… weird. darkners consistently refer to the past, every dark world we enter has history, darkners even speak of people from other dark worlds! and the histories always parallel what happened to their corresponding object and space in the light world. chaos king is bitter and hates lightners because they abandoned him and everyone else - because they’re toys left in an abandoned classroom. cyber city doesn’t have this problem because they’re situated in a computer library regularly used by lightners, but queen is struggling with the internet outage. kris’ living room is… a child of divorce. and chapter 4? man i don’t even know. the darkners in the church are so cryptic i haven’t been able to analyse it properly.
so if darkners remember their lives as objects, were they always alive, or were they created by the fountains and “implanted” with those memories? are they even “real” memories?
chapter 3 raises the most questions regarding this. tenna KNOWS kris, watched them grow up. ramb comments on how kris and their friends used to play make believe WITH THE SAME OBJECTS we know now - im failing to remember the line but i know it mentioned how queen and king were at war! and in chapter 4 it’s revealed that dark worlds are warped by the mind that creates them. this raises so many questions - are all objects in the light world sentient and able to communicate with each other, just invisible to lightners? or are objects “summoned” into consciousness with memories of their lives automatically created for them?
and that made me fucking realize. ARE DARKNERS LIKE THE TOYS IN FUCKING TOY STORY???? THINK ABOUT IT. TGINK ANBOUT IT
tenna’s past with spamton is a huge indicator of this - they were business partners, right? and they had a falling out because of a mutual misunderstanding involving the mysterious person calling spamton and making him a Big Shot. well, how the hell did spamton know tenna, if they’re from different dark worlds?
in what i’m fairly certain is game tenna’s last piece of dialogue in the sword route, he says “they never should have brought that computer home…”
spamton knows tenna and mike before tenna’s dark world is created. they communicated and had a relationship before ANY of the dark worlds were created if we take “1997” as the literal year of spamton being a big shot. all because the dreemurs brought a computer home, allowing tenna to meet spamton… now, you could argue that this is because the prophecy is controlling everything, but we already see ways in which the prophecy has been contradicted, so i’m uncertain if the prophecy has THAT strong of a hold on the world. (if that ages bad in the next ten years womp womp)
AND. although we don’t know if this is every object or just objects that have previously been animated via fountains, but tenna shows signs of sentience even in the light world!!! y’all know the line of dialogue with mettaton where he plays a “salacious music video”!!!! look!!!!! THE OBJECTS ARE SENTIENT ITS FUCKING TOY STORY
DARKNERS EITHER LITERALLY LIVE AS SENTIENT OBJECTS (LIKE TOY STORY, THE BRAVE LITTLE TOASTER, ETC) OR IN A MORE ETHEREAL SENSE LIVE ON A SEPARATE PLANE OF EXISTENCE AS DARKNERS BUT CAN ONLY DIRECTLY INTERACT W LIGHTNERS WHEN A FOUNTAIN GIVES THEM ANTHROPOMORPHIC FORM
WAITER! MORE WOODY THEORY PLEASE gets shot 57 times

sabrinas cover isn't satire though? like It Does Not fit the definition of satire, it's quite literally appealing to the male gaze lmao
okay, so i admittedly didn’t have much knowledge of the male gaze (besides that it was coined as a film term), and google wasn’t being helpful (ai has ruined so much for us), so i turned to my friends liz @akkpipitphattana (a theatre major) and kai @miwtual (an english major), because both have had more time and experience studying this term than i have
what liz had to say:
kai probably knows more about the term itself but like it’s a film term so automatically theyre wrong on that front lmao
HOWEVER if we’re trying to claim she’s marketing herself to men it’s just like… incorrect. like yeah she’s conventionally attractive and men find her hot but she also spends a majority of her songs dissing them and her music videos are constantly killing them off. if she was pandering to men or marketing herself to them, her songs and music would be about how much she actually likes them
which also isn’t to say that sabrina doesnt have songs about how much she does like men because she does! it’s just those songs are rarely the ones that she markets herself. bed chem and juno are the two songs off short n sweet where she’s talking about how much she likes having sex with her man and neither of them were singles or had music videos INSTEAD she chooses songs to market that are openly MOCKING men (taste, manchild, feather, espresso)
the ONE instance of her having one of these songs as a single is nonsense and you know who plays the man in that music video? HERSELF.
but also this is why i always find it especially weird that people say that all she sings about is sex because again shes not even marketing the songs about sex herself! the only reason bed chem and juno got as popular as they were is because OTHER PEOPLE blew them up. like she said in that rolling stone interview you guys are the ones obsessed with sex!
what kai had to say:
the male gaze (and also the female gaze) are terms to be used in filmmaking to talk about how the film portrays women vs men. the "male" gaze includes things like the scene in suicide squad in which harley quinn is getting dressed—it's objectifying her as nothing more than a spectacle to be stared at by men. the female gaze, by comparison, is seen in movies like birds of prey (going off the same harley quinn example) in the scene where harley breaks a dude's legs because he was trying to sexualize her. the male gaze is about objectification of women while the female gaze is about the power of women
saying that sabrina carpenter is "pandering to the male gaze" is like how people say that real life people (like harry styles, for example) are "queerbaiting their audience". it doesnt work like that because those terms are not to be used with real people, its a term to be used when looking at art forms like film, paintings, sculptures, literature, etc
also, a lot of the male gaze is based in the idea of vouyerism. since (again) women are objectified and meant to be stared at, they are sexual beings that only exist for the pleasure of men. so just the idea of *looking* at a woman becomes sexualized because women exist as nothing but an object to be thirsted over
and i think thats part of the problem as to why people keep saying sabrina is "pandering to the male gaze" bc part of being a celebrity is that its vouyeristic in nature. but that doesnt mean that the artist is trying to be vouyeristic as a person, its just a byproduct of fame in this modern era
as for what i have to say about the use of satire:
satire is a literary work used to criticizes and/or ridicules people or ideas using the same delivery method and style of the topic itself. it’s usually used in a humorous way, though not necessarily.
using this definition, we can break it down to see if the album cover fits it
what is the cover meant to criticize and/or ridicule? the idea ingrained in society that women are men’s pets, servants and/or beneath them
is it using the same deluge method and style of the topic itself? i’d say so, yes, since sabrina is pictured on her hands and knees while a figure is standing above her and holding her hair
how do we know it’s meant to be satire? based on the context surrounding it. the leading single of the album is called manchild, a song that, quite literally and explicitly, criticizes men. sabrina herself is known for writing and performing songs that are VERY critical of men and the patriarchy
i’ll end this by pointing your way to laura mulvey’s original dissertation on the male gaze. it’s quite a good read to understand the points she was trying to make

Here is my amazing spectacular important objectively correct opinion that society needs and wants on this matter— Because this is something that I have PONDERED over for DAYS. WEEKS. MONTHS. YEARS. (This is a hyperbole I thought about this for maybe 10 minutes.) NONETHELESS! Here is my claim:
Donatello is a smoothie enjoyer, but only under specific circumstances.
Like many autistic people, flavor profiles and preferences can come in extremes, which clearly tends to be the case for Donatello. I KNOW many many many people in the Rise Fandom consider Donatello to be on the more “blander flavors” and “lighter textures” side of autism, which IS true considering his preferences for drinks (“one flavorless juice, Shelldon?”) but it is not the sum total of ALL his dietary flavor preferences. As seen when he eats pizza with Leonardo and April and when he makes his own sandwich, (cited, “operation: Normal” and “Breaking Purple.”) (P.S., couldn’t find a reference image for Operation: Normal, but HERES the image cite for breaking purple:)

BOTH food items have complex textures and—(it’s not unreasonable to assume)— complex flavors as well. This specific trait of Donatello makes BOTH sides of the argument, (“Donatello IS a smoothie enjoyer” vs “Donatello is NOT a smoothie enjoyer”) equally as viable as the other. However we are not here for the boring, undebatable grey area. We are NOT going for “everyone’s right!” . That is foolish and BORING, and there is ALWAYS a right answer! Which is that HE WOULD. But, that does not mean he would like just any smoothie. We need to judge his previous food preferences.
Knowing that he likes LAYERING textures, as seen when he eats pizza and when he makes the sandwich, both of which have an egregious amount of toppings, it’s safe to assume that Donatello would like Smoothies that may have more interesting textures. Such as fruit chunks, granola, etcetera. The list goes on. However the flavorless juice argument comes back . Clearly, he has some flavor sensitivity. Whether that only applies to DRINKS and not to FOODS is a different question altogether, and we, as a fandom, do not have nearly enough content to properly deduce that ourselves. But, considering that the only instance that Donatello has had regarding flavor sensitivity being in drinks, we can SAFELY ASSUME that Donatello has a far stronger sensitivity to flavors in drinks than foods. (Or, just, prefers more mellow drinks.) so, let’s look at the most COMMON smoothie pairings.
- Strawberries + Bananas
- Mango + Pineapple
- Mixed Berries
- Green Smoothies
There are more, (obviously,) but for the sake of my sanity and this argument let us keep it to four. Shall we?
Anywhomst! Let’s deduce which one he would MOST LIKELY, like the most out of these options.
Strawberry + Banana is a classic combination, but, coming from an autistic person who ABSOLUTELY HATES BANANAS WITH a BURNING PASSION (+ my friends’ citation, who is also autistic and ALSO hates bananas,) my own bias must contribute here. (This is an opinionated argument anyway!) bananas, frankly, have way too strong of a flavor to even count a strawberry banana smoothie as having any strawberry components at all. A banana is basically the equivalent of an annoying popular celebrity that manages to dictate every part of social media of the fruit family. There is a reason why although bananas are technically, scientifically, “berries”, they are far too burdening to be even socially considered berries. I truthfully do not think that Donatello would willingly drink a banana smoothie of any kind.
The second choice is mango and pineapple. Let me get this out of the way: I’m desi. I LOVE both mangos and pineapples. Beautiful fruits; which is also saying a lot considering that I do not like most fruits in general. However, my personal biases come against me for this argument. I like mango and pineapple smoothies because of the strong punchy flavors. But for this argument we are ASSUMING that Donatello does not like strong flavors in drinks. Mango + Pineapple smoothies may be too sweet or acidic for his personal preferences. Therefore, he won’t like this either.
The next option, mixed berry, is a confusing one. Mixed berry can mean so many different things, and each mixed berry smoothie tastes slightly different. Some are more sour and sweet, some are more mellow and neutral, with hints of fruitiness . I think the unpredictability of it may make him averse to it, unless he himself is the one making the mixed berry smoothie in question. Although this could be the argument for ALL of these, in my personal experience, mixed berry smoothies tend to have the most differences amongst different places.
Last and probably least is green smoothies. I have never had a green smoothie before and nor do I have the desire to. HOW-EV-ER!!!!!!! Green smoothies according to various different sources, are made with greens like kale, spinach, avocados, yogurt, milk, and maybe sweeter fruits like honey, nut butters, and grapes to even out the flavor profile. You can assume that a green smoothie will have the most plain flavor profile when compared to the other smoothies because its main components include vegetables and fruits with relatively light flavors. Avocados can be used for both savory and sweet dishes, and yogurt can be manipulated however you wish them to taste like. Generally, this means that green smoothies would be the best option for Donatello.
Therefore, the conclusion is this: Donatello would not like most smoothies, but would make an exception for various types of green smoothies, or smoothies with lighter flavors and stronger textures, making him a recreational smoothie enjoyer.
Do you guys think Donatello is a smoothie hater or enjoyer autistic

Twitter users have learned the term "weaponized incompetence" and of course are using it wrong and it's pissing me off. The latest example of "weaponized incompetence" is a husband who decided to make crescent rolls but didn't realize he needed to roll them up so he made large crescent chips instead. Literally just a mistake. Y'know. Those things people make?
Another recent example is someone's fiance being asked to clean up hot sauce. Now this could certainly more likely actually be weaponized incompetence! The very slow movements very much says "look at me do this and fail. You should just do it next time, it's easier." But you know what it also very much says, something that is just as likely? The movements are slow because it's more than he expected and he's trying to figure it out. I struggle with this, and have gotten better with practice, but what else are you supposed to do? Sometimes there's a puddle of something and you put a paper towel on it and it absorbs but is not nearly enough. He specifically examines how full of hot sauce it is after the first soak and how much more there is. And when he starts smearing it around...how else are you supposed to avoid that? It's still cleaning it so long as the smears aren't left behind
As I said, weaponized incompetence or someone genuinely trying are both likely there. The thing is, I'm not making assumptions about it. And neither should other people. Those types of slow, unsteady movements as I figure things out are extremely common for me. I am autistic and have struggled to process physical tasks (how to accomplish things that require my body to move in a certain way, including running and jump roping etc. didn't learn how to jump rope until I was 18) my entire life. This is how I figure shit out. If someone assumed me literally doing my best to complete a task was weaponized incompetence, I'd be pissed. In fact, that happens all the time!
My mother, while I was growing up, pretty much weaponized weaponized incompetence, without using those words. She would ask me to do something. I, being an autistic child, would try my best. I'd fail or do a poor job because I'm a child. She might try a few more times with me but because I didn't get it instantly or it struggled to click she'd visibly get mad at me and tell me not to bother and that she'd just do it instead. As I got into my teens she accused me of doing things badly on purpose so I wouldn't have to do it, when the reality is she just gave up on me and asked me to do things less and less frequently with age. Then at around 16, and ESPECIALLY 18+, she started expecting me to do ALL kinds of things. Saying "you're an adult, you should know this". How? Adults know the things they do because they have experience. I don't. I've had to play such hard catch up for everything I've missed because people (not just my mom) find it easier to not bother with the disabled child.
I'm not saying the man in that video is autistic, or anything else! But what I said brings another point into play: he's an adult and simply doesn't know how to do it. That's a problem! Now why would he be an adult incapable of doing what should be a simple task he should have already learned? He wasn't taught. It reminds me of the guy who got a ton of shit online because his mom did his laundry for him all his life so when he first lived out of the house (I think with a roommate) he had to learn how to do his laundry. He wasn't refusing to do his laundry, he wasn't whining and complaining about it, he was just texting a friend about it. It would be a problem if he didn't bother to learn. If someone is LITERALLY TRYING TO LEARN HOW TO DO SOMETHING it's not weaponized incompetence! I don't care how old they are!
And honestly it does play into the whole "the patriarchy is bad for men too" situation. If a man doesn't know how to do something, such as laundry or cleaning up spills, as an adult because those jobs were always deferred to women, he is now incapable of caring for himself when alone. And then when with someone else, accused of weaponized incompetence when trying to learn by people learning new words to run into the ground. Or once again, maybe it's not a situation where he didn't learn because the women specifically always did the cleaning, he just generally might not have been taught. I don't know!
The very point I'm trying to make is that you can't make those kind of assumptions based off of a short clip, or a picture, of someone doing something poorly. Even if there's a CHANCE it could be weaponized incompetence, it is so BEYOND horrible to go on and on about how it HAS to be weaponized incompetence because no one could be that stupid. It feels awful to be a disabled person seeing people being mocked and called abusers for making the same kind of mistakes you've made. It feels awful to see something, think "oh I've messed that up too", and then see 50 different comments about how it has to be weaponized incompetence because no one could be THAT stupid
Can we please stop forgetting the existence of disabled people and people with generally different life experiences than you, thanks. There's a huge difference between weaponized incompetence and learning (or someone doing the best they can and being physically unable to do things more efficiently because of being disabled)
#pisses me off#reminds me of how people talk about being anti ai art. i think I've ranted about that before#where people are mocked for not noticing something 'obvious' is wrong like extra fingers or terribly messed up proportions#and those SHOULD be obvious! they really should be! to me they're not#i really REALLY struggle to process the world around me. i can barely put it into words because thats just my life. but like... physical#space is an example of it#i run into things and people constantly because i cant process how things interact in a 3D space well enough. how much room is between me#and other people and objects for instance#or where i am if i enter a room from a different direction (like an entrance) than im used to. im totally lost#my point is i can't properly process a lot of obvious parts of existence#ive stared at an ai generated image people were mocking like a game of find the difference trying so hard to see what was wrong with it#i couldn't figure it out on my own at all#i had to look in the comments laughing about extra limbs‚ extremely long limbs‚ other generally weird things etc#and once i did that the picture was off-putting because i saw the weird stuff! but its not natural to me at all#there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with pointing out the flaws of ai art and how to spot them. it's a good thing to do! do it!!!#but the way people talk about those who can't see the differences is gross and heartbreaking#ive seen 'ppl who cant tell this shit from real art must mindlessly consume art and not care what it is' SO many times#and other variations of how people who don't see the mistakes dont pay attention to the world around them or care about other things#i wont go into it in the tags. limited tags suck. but anyway my point is uhhhhhhh ppl are awful to disabled people#and anyone else with a reason to not understand something#and as ive said: that vid i linked could EASILY be weaponized incompetence and i wouldn't blame ppl for assuming it is if they weren't also#being extremely ableist with what they're saying at the same time#its bad to assume from a small glimpse as i said but sometimes its more reasonable than others. but go about it the right way for gods sake

I don't know that I've seen a quarterback exerting that kind of pressure on the organization....Joe Burrow has been incredibly consistent and vocal about wanting to keep Tee Higgins around...
Burrow's contract has already forced Cincinnati to start doing some things that they don't normally do. He has already broken rules that the Bengals have typically had in terms of how they handle their contracts. Like his deal is the type of deal that they don't sign previously. So they've already made exceptions...started to modernize...started to act the way the rest of the NFL does, because Burrow is so special...so if he was able to make them do that for his own contract, is he able to make them do that to keep Tee Higgins in the building? To go in a different direction than they would normally do?
#really liked this segment from check the mic#i typically like these guys. they discuss things in a very objective data driven non-hysterical way#which is refreshing for national media lol#i don't agree with everything they say on a bengals level just because again they're national so they aren't going to be#the most up to date on all 32 teams#like for instance as a follow up to this. steve says that they can't pay everyone. but all the local people have done the math. they can!#but regardless. i really like this because a. pointing out again how unique it is for joe to be doing this much public advocating#again. wish he didn't have to!! but love that he is! he's always gonna stand on business for his guys!!#and b. i like that sam points out like hey. the bengals HAVE shown they can do a modern contract!!#with like guaranteed money in the future and void years and all that fancy stuff!#of course they have ONLY done it with joe. and i'm sure very very begrudgingly (as evidenced by how fucking long it took them lol)#but. hey! it /could/ be a sign they're willing to do this for other players#like ja'marr i'm sure wanted an equivalent modern structure (more guaranteed money in future years and such!)#and that's part of the reason he didn't sign last year even when the amounts were fine. he wanted to get the same treatment as joe#(deservedly so!)#and because the bengals refused to budge on that they didn't get the deal done. the year before he breaks all these records#and gets the triple crown. making the price go WAY up#so you'd think they have to regret that right? had to have learned from it?? (you'd THINK)#so perhaps they can compare risk and find that actually you SHOULD do these modern contracts. and do them early!#and it actually pays off in the end!#anyway. all this to say. i like that so much of the media has taken note of joe's actions here#and god god god i hope it all pays off#joe burrow#cincinnati bengals

I think you might find the mother-daughter sexual abuse angle in Black Swan of interest if you haven't already delved into that
yesss
I was really taken aback by their relationship when I first watched the film because the incestuous subtext was pretty blatant and I hadn't seen any discussion around it beforehand. The idea of the abusive mother is still pretty hard to register for certain people, so when you add sexual abuse into the mix, plus inflicted on another woman, it mostly disappears from analysis.
#asks#it made me absolutely crazy when I watched it at the time cause NO ONE was talking about it and I felt like I was just making connections#which weren't there#but so many things hint towards this interpretation and tbh it's not that surprising that it's an overlooked subject.#it's very often reduced as mommy issues as many relationships in other medias are without looking much further#(Sharp Objects for instance. like... how can you read the book and not see that. anyways)#Some of the interactions they have can be read this way (like the scene where Nina licks Erica's finger or 'are you ready for me?')#But the one where it truly clicked for me was when they showed Nina's room opened right after she wakes up from her night with 'Lily'#plus the 'Sweet Girl' during the sex scene#Tbh I can't really say if anything really happened between the two at this moment. but it's extremely telling to end the scene this way#The interpretation that Lily in this moment is a projection to think of somebody else while it's Erica who's truly there is plausible#However I don't know if Aronofsky thought of it that way. I think it was supposed to be read as an hallucination through and through and#given the incestuous undertones established earlier in the film it was more to be seen as a psychosexual/Freudian dynamic#But idk. Erica still violates Nina's boundaries repetively and says things concerning how attrative and sexually desirable she is#which are beyond the simple dominating role most people associate to her#SO YEAH ! I spent quite some time thinking about this relationship last year since I thought I was losing my mind at first#might have to rewatch Black Swan now...#black swan#my thoughts#*

#iwtv is so much more fun if you're willing to actually dissect the story and characters and their world in good faith#which also means applying faults to characters as they are actually seen and not exaggerated or diminished simply by a bias#But when there is nothing actually definitive (only assumption to confirm) you can't actually say who's doing what w/o some bias involved#and yes a lot of times thats entirely going to be the right assumption because we can definitely infer#But there's a realm to where you do have to consider all possibilities are possible if they are left unanswered#you can place inferences but you can't claim them as definitive if they are just inferences#and other people are just going to have different inferences even bias. But this shouldn't mess with what's definitive about it.#basically taking a good faith journalism stance on it so your not falling into possible problematic biases#there are also functions of vampirism and how it works in this context which do not mirror our world 1 to 1#for instance whereas humans have to live in direct contact with society and its various problems bias and ideologies vampires live on the#outskirts of this. Only ever coming into contact by influencing onto that world by their outside actions or appearances#the human world serves nothing for them except as threat or supply for wants or needs. There's no real connection there.#When mapping vampiric existence onto human existence it can a lot of times lead to problems in trying to bridge this cognitive dissonance.#You can not be in community with humanity when you are by nature a being opposed to it. Which is contentious when you want to be part still#They can be effected by this and effect onto it yes but they are not actually a part of it and never will be.#I'd say if you effect onto humanity positively it's better to have it for the enjoyment of it alone as opposed to seeking human connection#as any criticisms of this connection your trying to seek is essentially denial your own sought humanity as opposed to the object of doing#and this would always be a lost cause#but i think I digress here#there are also cultural beliefs and practices of vampires that are not found in our world such as laws and covens and ideologies#a lot of which are quite actually opposed to normal human understandings of rightness and morality#they culturally are more open to accepting those who are viewed as less than or moral because this is a reflection of themselves#And we can and should certainly point to all of this stuff for what it is I feel

[through gritted teeth] i am so normal about this
#no no no it's just like....#the difference between just these two instances from s1 to s3 is FASCINATING to me#he's not asking in the first he's just stating a fact and he's having his belief confirmed#(by a man who's now almost definitely going to be in jail for the rest of his life -#the less extreme of the worst case options jane's had in his head but still nothing to scoff at) he's told with passion and conviction that#the revenge was worth the cost; that he doesn't regret it in the slightest; that it was 'redemptive')#and that's exactly what jane thinks that's what he's built his life around for the past - at least 5? - years#but he IS asking in the second; it's years after the first and he's not the same man he was then#he does still believe in vengeful justice i think but it's not just him that he has in mind now#there's other people to consider - people that found their way into his head and his heart (despite any of his efforts to the contrary)#and he's asking this question to a man who's just been cleared of all charges (were they murder charges? idk i need to watch that ep again)#it's not just him he's thinking of now and it's not just the most concrete costs either#it's....idk it's a shift from the objective costs to the emotional costs; it's the shift from being told to asking i'm just obsessed#(also interesting that these are both men when the only time i can think of off the top of my head where he has this kind of interaction#with a woman is the s1 country club episode? the one with liz forbes? where she breaks down and says it doesn't change a thing#that's a completely new tilt to it too that's something to consider all of this actually has no point but where else am i gonna say it)#tm

Possibly hottest take I ever posted but I dislike that "let's test and scrutinise whether the real life mostly queer women I share fandom with are interacting with sufficent enlightened and pure thoughts with fictional women and fantasize about punishing them if they don't" is now an extremely widespread cute little meme
#the position im leaning on as a summary of the last couple years of thinking about this obsessively#is that there are very few instances where policing other people's fan activity has benefits that counterbalance the objective massive#diminution of joy and relief brought by daydreaming for everyone#and veeeeery few of these are. on tumblr dot com in 2023#there are some issues. certainly. but its largely not important if someone says 'mom friend' on the internet#i am happy to direct y'all to bringing gripes in the group chat instead#op

two and sunshine are so funny i wish literally anyone but me cared abt them. they're both middle aged men. one is a kindergarten teacher who likes gardening and positivity. one is locked up in prison for second degree murder and hasn't had a single healthy relationship in his entire life. neither of them has a single friend. they're both mentally ill and traumatized. they hate each other. they make each other better people. they challenge the worst parts of each other. they're in love w/ each other but neither of them knows it. they are a rainbow beach ball and the literal embodiment of the sun
#SOMEDAY you will all know about my ocs and then u will understand why im mentally ill about them#i love fucked up middle aged gay people#this is missing A LOT of context for their relationship btw (for instance how they met or the seven other parts of them)#but i think they're silly#txt#object ocs

hot take: the problem with doctor who is NOT that they brought billie piper back, it is NOT that ncuti left early, it is NOT that 15 never faced a dalek or a cyberman, and it is CERTAINLY NOT that it’s ’too woke’
the problem with doctor who is that they have forgotten how to engage an audience without utterly confusing them. if i were a writer, this is what i’d change:
1. i would lower the stakes
my biggest issue with dw in recent years is that the stakes are always SO high - it’s always ‘we need to sort this out or else the ENTIRE UNIVERSE WILL END. this rarely happened at the start of nuwho. of course, there were instances where galaxies and universes were at stake, but there were also plenty of instances where the doctor solves issues to A. save his own skin, B. save his friends, and C. to save smaller populations of people and/or generally do what is morally right.
prime example is in new earth. the world isn’t really at stake, he has a couple of objectives: get cassandra to piss off, free the test subjects, stop the infections from spreading. he doesn’t spend the hour worrying that if he doesn’t help then the world will end, he sees a problem that’s morally corrupt and he solves it for the sake of that group. the payoff is just as good, and actually IMPROVES the payoff for episodes where a bit more is at stake, like the poison sky, for example.
2. i would stop plots from spilling over across seasons
i’d like to remind everyone that, although there were things that kind of linked into each other and were mentioned again, generally for the first 4 seasons of (new) doctor who, an overarching issue was built up, climaxed, and resolved throughout a single season. for example: bad wolf in s1. this has gotten worse and worse over time but has honestly been a problem since rtd1 ended, and for some reason when he came back it got WORSE than it’s ever been!!! there’s just way too much overspill across seasons, things even span accross different doctors more recently which is just too much at times. when it’s little things it doesn’t matter, but it’s not. again, this has been an issue before this finale, but this finale is a good example since there were a hundred and one loose ends before he regenerated. when nuwho began, they literally stated each regen would be treated as a soft reboot and their neglect of that has been a downfall.
3. i’d make doctor who dirty and grungy again
it’s too clean futuristic ultra modern sci-fi these days. the tardis doesn’t look like he stole it. what happened to those fun tardis scenes where the entire thing would shake as it took off and landed? why is everything so light and clean? it should be dim and cozy and imperfect.
4. i’d make the companions’ family members more prominent and interesting characters again
doesn’t take much explaining, really. picture jackie tyler, now picture carla sunday. who has a stronger presence and personality in your head and why is it jackie tyler? (there’s bound to be someone who disagrees and that’s fine but i don’t rlly want to hear about it tbh)
5. i’d re-inject some british whimsy
please don’t mistake this as me saying doctor who ‘isn’t british’ or something weird and gammon-y like that, i love when dw explores different cultures, the story and the engine was one of my highlights last season, i just mean like - let him save the world with a jammy dodger again. let him be brought back to life by a good cup of tea. it makes it enjoyable.
there are lots of things, but those are my main ones.
EDIT: thank you to everyone who has weighed in on this - i’ve found it really interesting to see everyone’s perspectives on this because honestly i could talk for king and country about it, but also i just wanted to say that it makes me kind of sad that one of my only negative posts about doctor who is my most popular post :( if you’re reading this, it’s your sign to do something positive today, if i can help to make just one person’s day better then that’s a win to me :)

@dimiclaudeblaigan asked for a tutorial on how to begin drawing. Good news! If you can draw a funky looking stick man, you have already started!
I think that stick people are a great starting point for artists because of the things you can learn from them that will be important later on.
If you are able to draw a circle and a couple of lines, you can easily put together a stick person.
Congratulations! You have started to draw. :)
A stick person is a very minimal artistic representation of a real life person. It is simple yet recognizable, and is widely used in art, media, and signage.
But what can a stick person teach us about drawing people that look more like… well, people? Lets have a look!
By simply adding a few more lines, we can add a pair of eyes and a mouth. Maybe even a little triangle nose! Or half circles for ears. We can now draw a face, which provides a basis for all sorts of expressions.
These simple additions can allow us to explore the wide range of human emotion and individuality.
This may seem like the basics of the basics. But that is what we want! In order to get to the point where we are able to draw complex, elaborate representations of humans and objects, we will need to start with simple shapes like lines and circles and build our understanding from there.
For instance, lets give our stick person some cool new features, such as hands and feet. I chose little squiggly circles to represent hands, and triangles to represent feet.
We can go a step further and modify the body of the stick person to include shoulders, hips, elbows and knees. These parts of the human body are quite complex in real life But here, all we need to do is add a few simple lines and dots to our stick person.
The lines provide some additional structural elements to our stick person's body, which are the shoulders and the hips. The dots indicate the points of articulation - elbows and knees, the places where the arms and legs bend!
Now we can use our stick person to show us an even wider range of human movement, action, and expression.
Our little drawing of a human being is evolving! All it took was adding a few more lines and shapes here and there.
By elongating some of the existing lines and making the head an oval instead of a circle, we can give our stick person proportions that resemble that of a real life human.
By this point, we have managed to add more complexity to our stick person simply by using our ability to draw lines, circles, and other basic shapes!
These basic ideas are the building blocks that will enable us to create more complex shapes.
The next part may be a considerable step up if you are absolutely new to drawing, but I have decided to include it in order to show you how complex objects like the human body can be built from shapes that are a bit more complex than circles and lines.
For example. Two ovals and a rectangle can be combined to create a cylinder.
Six squares can be combined to create a cube, or a box. Here, each square is distorted slightly depending on which way the cube is facing.
Note that the back faces of the cube and the bottom of the cylinder are hidden. These shapes allow us to visualize that which should not normally visible.
A sphere from all perspectives can be represented by a circle. But we can make it more like a sphere by adding lighting and shadow if we so desire.
Cubes, cylinders, and spheres are examples of 'solid shapes' because they consist of 3 dimensions.
Lets see how these solid shapes can be used to compose the human body.
By stacking three cylindrical objects, we can create a torso. Two spheres have been added to form shoulders, while a smaller cylinder forms the neck.
An arm is an alternating sequence of spheres and cylinders connected together. Note that the hand has been simplified for this example.
We can apply these solid shapes to the rest of the body to give us a more recognizable representation of the human form. It doesn't even have to be perfect. And just like that, our stick figure now has a silhouette that is unmistakably a person!
In the above examples, notice that we kept the stick person at the beginning while building up the shapes and solids around it. This is because the stick person serves as a guide for positioning the body and its various parts -> also known as posing.
You can do the same thing to everyday objects! Here, I drew a wine glass by stacking these three dimensional solid shapes.
The cup and its contents are two ovoid shapes that were cut in half. The stem is a very thin cylinder shape. The base is a cylinder with a slightly wider bottom.
Solid shapes help inform us how objects and parts of the human body may appear from different perspectives.
For example, a sphere can be used to demonstrate how the human head appears when looking up or down, turned to the side, or tilted at an angle.
With these examples, I hope I have managed to convinced you that if you can draw a circle and a couple of lines, you can draw a person! You just have to train your eye to recognize the simple shapes within complex objects. Try it with everyday objects as well! Or even your favourite media! A drawing subject can be as simple or as complex as you envision it to be.
Once you have mastered that, there are many aspects of drawing you can explore from here that may require you to seek additional resources or a fellow artist's advice.
Last of all, remember that drawing is an iterative process. Even if you draw something correct the first time, you will need to draw it again and again to get it right all times! And by making small changes like the ones we explored in this tutorial, your drawings will gradually transform!
I hope what I've demonstrated here are enough to provide the basics of how to get started with drawing objects and people, and also to help refresh more experienced artists. :) Hopefully I didn't go too off topic with what was requested, and let me know if there are any more questions I can answer.
Cheers :3

Overworked- DCxDP prompt
The knight led the group of selected heroes into the throne room. Sitting before a crowd of his people was none other than the ghost king.
"Do not test His Majesty, his mood his well this day. Say only what is necessary." The knight warned before stepping aside.
The kind wasn't what Constantine had mentioned. He was young and rather small for the throne he now sits on. The green flaming crown was unmistakable though.
The young man glared at them with intense animosity, his upper lip curled as he held back a reflexive snarl. Sharp canines peeked out just for a moment as he schooled his expression.
"Do you have any idea what you've done?" The kind said drumming his fingers on the armrest of his chair. His black claws each clicking aginst the cold metal.
The group had been briefed on the situation by Constantine after they were summoning to this realm.
The short and sweet was that they were being mandated to appear before the king of the infinite realms for a long list of violations against the order of the universe. The current group contains Bruce, Clark, Wally, Kon, Jason, Hal, Barry, and Damian. Constantine himself will also be there but he already knows that this tribunal will have multiple groups.
The group reamined mostly silent.
"Where you not read your list of crimes?" The boy asked this time.
An attendant scurried through the crowd with a large scroll in hand before the king immediately waved him off tp return to his post.
"No, lets skip the reading. It would take cycles to get through the charges. Let me be brief. You have all been found guilty of charges of resurrection, time traveling, timeline manipulation, Planetary rearranging courtesy of Mr.Kent here, Interdimensional universe travel, and UNIVERSE MELDING! THE LIST GOES ON!" The king became more irate with every charge. "Tell me why I shouldn't banish you to an empty dimension right this instance."
Constantine knew this was all politics at the end of the day. This whole thing could be smoothed over with the right words by the right person.
"We are human." Bruce said firmly before anyone could stop him. Jason held back a groan of agitation.
"...So you are. What does that have to do with anything?" He boy asked.
"Isn't it natural for us to want to live and do whatever we can to keep living?" Bruce responded
Murmurs erupted amongst the crowd of onlookers.
"So what? Do you think you are the exception then? Look around heroes. This room is full of ghosts who would also have done to keep living. My people couldn't avoid death but they accepted it. What can I say to them if I let you go while they paid their price? How fair would that be?" The king condemned.
The murmurs turned into cheers for their king's words. It was unfair. Why do they get to do what they want without repercussions when they died without even getting the option to live?
"If it counts for anything many of us died to protect as many people as possible," Hal said.
"Well, good for you. How much was that sacrifice worth in the face of your resurrection? That probably doesn't feel cheap at all." The king said sarcastically. "I suppose that goes for most of you."
"I have an objection. Resurrection is not a choice if someone chooses to bring us back we don't get a say. By default we shouldn't be charged for it." Jason argued.
The king paused and raised a hand silencing the crowd.
"Hmmm, I suppose you are correct. Fine, I will strike it from the record." The kind relented.
The heroes had finally found an in. If they could argue their charges down they could leave.
"None of use have willingly time traveled. Hell i hated it. Being lost in time was not a chose we made." Wally said as Barry nodded along.
The king bit the inside of his cheek as he pondered the response.
"I suppose I can overlook it."
"Let me just say that any melding of the universe happened as a consequence of our battle with Darkside." Clark said getting rid of their their biggest charge.
"Darkside?" The king narrowed his eyes.
A courtier stepped forward and leaned down to whisper into the boy king's ear.
"I see. He will be added to the ledger for his crimes. His trial will not be as forgiving as yours. You will not be seeing him again." The boy silently signaled to the knight who bowed and exited with a group of others.
The boy sighed and stood up.
"Follow me."
The group was led down a long corridor to an office with stacks of paperwork from floor to ceiling lining the walls.
"Welcome to my personal hell." The king announced.
Constantine whistled at the sheer number of documents scattered across the room.
"Sorry about the whole court thing. I don't really want to do it but I kind of have to. The Observers demand some kind of punishment for violations. Also, you need to understand that your actions are kept track of and you can't escape it. When you break the rule I have to do the paperwork. AND I HATE PAPERWORK. So here is the deal. You guys bring me the people that have done worse than you on this list and I'll call it square. And if you don't I take everyone's souls." The King handed the scroll to Bruce. "I want the Al Ghul clan first."
"Wait but my-" Damian spoke out but was cut off by the King's raised hand to silance him.
"It is irrelevant to me what your personal issues are. Every violator will be judged for their crimes. If they can give me a good plea then they can return. Consider yourself lucky that you're too young for a full sentencing. As for the rest just do what I say and make up for your crimes. This is a mercy so don't complain."
It was clear that the moody young king wasn't going to argue. It was best to keep quiet and before they knew it the group was sent back to earth.
"You have no idea how lucky we got," Constantine said lighting up a cigarette and leaving to get a drink.

can you please explain who these horses are????
You made a mistake in asking me, but I will try anyway. This will go over some general things and mainly focus on white and cyan, not so much the other horses.
They are characters from a Twitter webseries/game(?) hosted by @/snakesandrews. Where viewers essentially vote on whatever horse they think might win. These horses bounce around randomly off of objects like a screensaver of sorts, and a horse wins once it touches a png of a carrot.
These horses are typically referred to by their color until they win and are thus given a name, for instance, orange, eventually becoming jovial merryment.
How much or how little these horses win as well as what goes on during a race end up leading to a lot of fan made content. And for the most part, any characterization of these horses is largely up to fan interpretation.
For these two horses, white and cyan specifically? White and cyan and brown would go on to not win one match for quite some time, leading to them being put into a race all on their own. Which brown would eventually go on to win and attain the name Door Knob. Leaving white and cyan in their own little race. With a special little map, file this special little map for later.
It is important to note that these races do not usually last much longer than around 2 or 2 and a half minutes. Cyan and White would go on to race for a whole 7 minutes and 9 seconds. This led to a lot of fans depicting them as sort've not wanting to win, usually because of enjoying one another's company or something similar. I'm a yuri minded individual, so you can probably guess how I decided to interpret it.
As you probably realized, since they had a defined time for the race, a winner also exists. This is where White had won, earning the name Superstitional Realism. This led to a lot of fans depicting Cyan as either feeling betrayed or upset by white winning. Some also show Cyan being happy for white.
It here that white, now superstitional realism(I will refer to her as Sup from now on), would join the next days' race and proceed to not win. And in the next day's race, white would be mysteriously missing. It is in this race that Sup is missing that something unusual happens once the race is over.
Cyan has lost every single race, every single one. This race where Sup is missing is followed by a video in which Cyan was racing all alone in an empy room with only herself, eventually obtaining her first win. But did such a win even count? There was no one for Cyan to even race against after all. It was assumed Cyan would get a name for her victory, but the fanfare screen would simply continue listing her name as Cyan.
People expected that Cyan would finally join the next race proper, only for the next race to be a race between what looked to be 7 distorted horses (6 a form of cyan, and 1 white). Despite there being 6 cyans, they still lost to the distorted white horse, whose fanfare screen read "a Mysterious figure." Leading many to think this might be cyan reliving her worst moments, and more specifically, the moment where she get left behind by white.
The latest race as of this post was with the regular set of horses interspliced with the 6 distorted cyans having a race of their own. It's unknown if this "nightmare" world is real or in cyans head. But one of the 6 distorted cyans does win and is rewarded with the name of Garbage Bin. We then cut back to the "normal" world where Sup remains missing and jovial merryment wins the race(go figure).
Now, do you remember that special little map where cyan and white initially raced in? The "normal" world race was taking place on the very same map, just with more color and rounder edges. This leads to me and probably a few others believing that that last race was the other horses looking for cyan.
My assumption for why Sup has been missing for the last few races is because white had already gone back to look for cyan ahead of everyone else.
As for how the story might end? Well, you can find out both today and Friday as the series seems to be having it's last to races.
Will jovial win once more? It's possible. It's annoyingly possible. And will cyan and sup have a happy ending? I SURE HOPE SO. SAVE YOUR GIRL.
Whadya mean I'm getting emotional over screensaver pngs?!?
Apologies if this was long winded, I'm not used to typing this much and suck at using words. BUT you made the mistake of asking me, dear Anon. Always remember there is always yuri for those with eyes to see. Now go consume some fan content, there's a lot of really good writers and artists out there, show them some love.
