NOnonono but the entire point of the promise Sans makes to Toriel about "protecting the human coming through the door". Is that he really doesn't know who she is beyond the conversations they've had so far. And he doesn't know who the human coming out from there is. But they still trust each other to make it happen, regardless of timeline.
This happens regardless of Toriel's fate in the game. If you kill her, but not Papyrus, he still comments on this promise.
And here's the thing. He has to make the decision of trusting this woman he is fond of, but ultimately doesn't know beyond what they've shared together.
And Toriel had to make the decision of trusting him too. She is convinved that the world outside the Ruins will be hostile, because she knows what's happened before. And it fucking hurts to think it could happen again. And yeah I've heard all about it how she "rejected" her duty and didn't make the right choice back then. I think Toriel is somewhat aware of that. Her moving to the Ruins was a choice she made while grieving too, but it is a decsion that goes according to her integrity as well.
ANYWAYS I'm getting sidetracked. What I mean with this post is that the implications of trusting someone else with something that is so personal, because you know your limitations (because of flaws or any other cause), and having that person receive this in a good way is so important.
And while Sans is not the best at actively doing that job, it is still remarkable how much this promise is on his mind.
The VERY LAST THING he does before his No Mery fight is apologizing to Toriel, or his memory of her, because he had to break that promise.
This post is a mess but... I need to rotate them. And also I always get a little mad when people assume that Sans doesn't make that promise when Toriel dies, like in No-Mercy. Because the whole deal about the promise is that it happens before the game, it is not something anyone, not even Flowey, can affect, and it is a reflection of the closeness the two have, so placing this as something Toriel does only if she deems the human a good person, and something Sans only "keeps" when Frisk is pacifist just takes away that weight.
Also go play neutral routes they're super interesting to make character analysis. Different events affect different characters in specific ways.

Thank you, I think you just nailed what it is about Stolas that bothers me.
Like, you said how Asmodeus encourages Fizz to build a support system outside of him. He calls up Blitzo despite literally talking shit about him the episode before, just because he trusts Fizz’s forgiveness and knows he needs support, both physically and emotionally, that only Blitz can provide. And he doesn’t seem to mind that Fizz has interests outside of just their relationship, like performing (unless it’s Mammon). Not to say that Ozzie or the relationship is flawless (none are), but at Oz seems to genuinely just want Fizz to be happy. If by some bizarre twist Fizz broke up with Ozzie, I think the big guy would be sad, but ultimately would rather see the guy who taught him love be happy without him than be unhappy with him.
…Meanwhile, Stolas acts like Blitz solely exists to be his taboo imp lover. Stolas has never shown any interest in Blitz’s actual work, his hobbies, his family, his friends, his past, anything. He literally dirty talks to him while he is literally getting shot at. He doesn’t ever actually listen to him, and if the recent alleged Full Moon plot leaks are anything to go by, he’s never going to. This isn’t even getting into the coercion. Even if that wasn’t a factor, I feel like if Blitz were to move on (which let’s be real, he’s trying to) Stolas would mope and blame Blitz for all of his problems, and believe he is entitled to Blitz’s affection. That’s why I’ll never be able to get behind the ship no matter how much it’s stuffed in our face. It’s built on not only literal SA and class exploitation, but an incredibly unhealthy idealization and victim complex.
Oh wait, did I say would? This is literally canon.
Exactly because I know Asmodeus is very protective but who wouldn’t be? After seeing mammons behaviour I completely understand. And giving fizz someone else to provide safety was an act of kindness, uh, even though fizz wasn’t too happy about it🤭 he seems to notice how important Blitzø is to fizz more than fizz does..might be a bit of a shock to come later…I just love how he doesn’t force fizz to be with him, he’d always give him that choice.
EXACTLY anon. The coercion is a massive problem, but this ship is so incompatible that it’s still deeply flawed without that factor. “They’re both bad at communicating!” Is something shippers say to imply they’re clumsy in love and so similar to each other..when..no..poor communication is why relationships fail, why they end up abusive, and why they shouldn’t continue.
Stolas never cares that it’s a bad time, he uses blitzø as his security in LooLoo land despite not even needing it. To fuel a fetish of being saved by him, which in western energy nearly got him killed. When he learned Loona had to get a vaccination, he didn’t give a damn. He wanted IMP to drop everything and come to his aid, when he didn’t even feel in danger until the phone call ended. “I believe he has me bound by blessed ropes, limiting my ability to free myself I’m afraid. 😏 so I think you should come save me 😌”
While explaining about the blessed rope, and not having his grimoire in the human world, he’s smiling in both scenes. Think about it, his supposed weakness plot devices give him an opportunity to manipulate the situation again, to spend time with Blitzø against his will. In seeing stars he used violent intimidation tactics to get the three to bend to his will and do him favours. You can see the dark character he truly is with this pattern of behaviour.
There’s a lot of talk that Stella is mad about the cheating with an imp, but consider that seconds before he sees Blitzø at the party, Stella pisses him off by talking about how bad their sex life was. He then decides to jump in bed with said imp, which is even what he refers to him as. “Sir, we caught this nasty imp” “come with me, imp.” That’s a race play fetish right there.
Also yeah holy crap. Blitzø says he’s being used as a sex toy and stolas….cries? then kicks him out of his house? What a little bitch… “I will make amends” no you won’t liar 💀 then Blitzø will apologise to him and fawn over him like he used to for Fizzarolli? I feel sick..

Tsh analysis(*holds a magnifying glass and looks through the text with deep scrutiny*):
I have this little theory that made me sit up in bed like a thunderbolt and go oh! oh! oh!
"For, if the modern mind is whimsical and discursive, the classical mind is narrow, unhesitating, relentless."
Richard's description of a classical mind fits Henry ever so perfectly. He was unhesitant with his actions of taking down Hampden with six men, ruthless and relentless in killing Bunny and narrow-minded in the way he immediately denied the fact that people walked on the moon. He made himself an ancient, lived as such, completely denying the world infront of him to the extent of making himself totally isolated from it. He lived in the past, liked it that way. Ever only acknowledged the ancient world, learnt it's languages, believed deeply in their beliefs and relied solely on their resources.
"It was why I admired Julian, and Henry in particular. Their reason, their very eyes and ears were fixed irrevocably in the confines of those stern and ancient rhythms—the world, in fact, was not their home, at least not the world as I knew it—and far from being occasional visitors to this land which I myself knew only as an admiring tourist, they were pretty much its permanent residents, as permanent as I suppose it was possible for them to be."
To dwell deeper, he was more of an ancient Roman than of an ancient Greek. An opportunist who was deeply obsessed with greek ideas, strangely superstitious and idealized about wild enthusiasms. An orderly man and a pragmatist to begin with.
There's this paragraph where Julian talks about the Romans:
“The Roman genius, and perhaps the Roman flaw,” he said, “was an obsession with order. One sees it in their architecture, their literature, their laws—this fierce denial of darkness, unreason, chaos.” He laughed. “Easy to see why the Romans, usually so tolerant of foreign religions, persecuted the Christians mercilessly—how absurd to think a common criminal had risen from the dead, how appalling that his followers celebrated him by drinking his blood. The illogic of it frightened them and they did everything they could to crush it. In fact, I think the reason they took such drastic steps was because they were not only frightened but also terribly attracted to it. Pragmatists are often strangely superstitious. For all their logic, who lived in more abject terror of the supernatural than the Romans?"
“The Greeks were different. They had a passion for order and symmetry, much like the Romans, but they knew how foolish it was to deny the unseen world, the old gods. Emotion, darkness, barbarism.”
By bellowing Dionysus, Henry foolishly denied himself of the darkness and barbarism that would follow. He was thoroughly influenced and manipulated by Jillian into the beautiful illusion of loosing oneself, into throwing off the chains of being for an instant. He was so deeply fantasized by it that he turned a big blind eye towards the whole disaster that was to be ensued after. In a way, this was his, as well as the ancient Romans', tragic flaw, they had underestimated the powers of the mighty Gods. One had to know, Dionysus, The God of wine, theatre, worship and importantly, the God of letting go, had the ultimate power that allowed humans to let go of their troubles through wine, let go of their identities through theatre, and let go of their individuality through worship.
However, this letting go also had dark aspects as Dionysus himself, there was no inherent limits to the powers of bellowing him. Festivity could turn into destruction, without self control, his powers were capable of driving humans to let go of their sanity, to let go of their judgement and finally to let go of their very humanity!
During his lecture about telestic madness, Julian talks about the idea and the temptation of losing control over oneself and the terrible seduction of Dionysiac ritual, but he purposefully chooses to neglect mentioning the supreme importance of self-control, which is embodied by none other than Dionysus himself. In the play, Bacchae, Dionysus in the guise of a mysterious foreigner, was able to sting other men with madness while he himself was the picture of sanity. Hence, the tragedy befalls!
(Parallelly, while Julian himself was able to infect and influence the group into wild enthusiasms, he however stood there by the side calm and aloof as though all this had nothing to do with him. We shall discuss about this in detail later, this post is already too big!)

Thank you for answering my ask....if you don't mind me asking (again), who are your favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Ahhh, what are you doing, I am writing novels for all of these now. 🙈
I love talking about my favorite pairings and getting way too invested in them, so you totally brought this onto yourself.
Elle Woods/Emmet Forest (Legally Blonde The Musical): In my eyes, the ultimate romance. I love the musical in general and have watched the MTV recording dozens of times. It's my happy place. It is also, in my opinion, better than the original movie, particularly because it gives Emmet more depth and fleshes out their relationship much more.
They have such an interesting development, from strangers to mentor/mentee, with Elle still pining after Warner, while Emmet's growing respect slowly morphs into romantic love. But he never pushes it on her, it's just there in the background, with her completely oblivious.
They bring out the best in each other, both on a private and a professional level. Emmet is never condescending, never superior. He wants Elle to be the best version of herself, to get that chip on her shoulder, to pursue her career for herself and not some dumb man. So then, when the climax hits and Elle is at her lowest, when Emmet stands at her closed door and plaintively reprises her mantra of 'What about love?' - it just gets me every time.
But then! His confession is so quiet and timid, so different from what we are used to seeing in most narratives, Elle doesn't even hear it. And so it's not for his sake that she stays, and it's not him who convinces her to stay. No, instead it's Paulette and Vivienne who talk her out of it, it's her commitment to Brooke that compels her to stay, and it's her own re-found self-love that makes her wear pink again.
And Emmet loves her. All of her. But what's more: He believes in her. He puts his neck on the line for her, risks tarnishing his name. He is there for her through it all - much like she has previously been there for him, treating him to nice things and reminding him of his integrity.
And then we get the ending, the flash forward, three more years have passed, their relationship is going well, and Elle - who was so hung up on getting proposed to - gets down on one knee for him.
Their relationship subverts so many tropes and gender stereotypes, both because and in spite of Elle being this very girly, feminine woman and- Gosh. I could write entire PhD theses about them, I adore them so much.
Erwin Smith/Levi Ackermann (Attack on Titan): Another pairing that is all about support and bringing out the best in each other, but unfortunately in a world that was all against them.
I love that they see each other for what they truly are, their core, their essence. Erwin looks at a wily street thug from the Underground City, and sees Humanity's Strongest. Levi looks at the Commander of the Survey Corps, and sees the childishly selfish, driven, flawed man he truly is.
They understand each other, gradually but fundamentally. If you look at the whole series, there interactions are actually quite limited, but all of them profound. There have such a deep belief in each other, to the point that they willingly let it blind them (e.g. when Levi is shocked to realize how deep Erwin's obsession truly runs).
And Levi loves him. In one way or another, he does. He would put anyone and anything aside to protect Erwin and help him achieve his goals. But then... he doesn't. He does the most selfish and simultaneously selfless thing in the entire series, and he does it twice over. He tells Erwin to give up on his dream and charge at the Beast Titan, and he decides to save Armin's life instead of Erwin's.
Levi, who has been too late to save people time and time again (his mother, Farlan and Isabel, his squad) chooses to bury himself in more grief in order to relieve Erwin of his burden. He makes a promise to him and he spends the next years trying to fulfill it, always with Erwin's face in mind, haunted by this benevolent ghost.
And in the end, when Levi has succeeded in what he set out to do, when he survived in spite of it all and not for lack of trying, he is able to let go. He cries, not just for Erwin, but for all who were lost. For the first time in the story, we see Levi do the salute of the survey corps; but his entire story was about him having dedicated his heart. To his fellow soldiers, to the cause, but - most of all - to his friend and commander.
Jaime Lannister/Brienne of Tarth (A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones): Enemies to friends to lovers, the only instance I can think of where it's been truly done right. They start out on opposite sides of the field, sworn to different sides in a bloody feud, and they hate each other's guts. But they are forced together, having to endure each other's dour company for weeks on end; it's basically the 'there's only one bed' trope, only that the bed is the hard ground in the wilderness and they are chained together.
But they have to depend on each other, too, in fights against common enemies, and their respect for each other grows. Jaime saves Brienne from violation when he doesn't have to, Brienne rekindles his will to survives; she saves him from drowning, and he returns to pull her from the bear pit. "I dreamed of you", he said, and I was fucking done for.
These two have so much respect for each other, first begrudging, and then more honest and fond. They realize that looks and reputation can be deceiving. Brienne learns to see a man - a boy, really - who was forced into a damning decision, who is honorable at his core but was not allowed to act on it. He learns to see a woman who is beautiful in her own right because she is true and good and honest.
When we first meet Jaime, he looks like Shrek's Prince Charming, golden and perfect and glowing. But then it is Brienne who becomes his knight in shining armor, who teaches him that he can still be a good person, even if the cost is great.
I love that they are both damaged, physically and emotionally. I love that they heal together. And I so hope that they will get some semblance of a happy ending in the books. And, as a sidenote, I love how Stiefvater spins her poetry around them. Her writing is so evocative, grotesque and picturesque by turns, just like Adam and Ronan are themselves, and it matches their development wonderfully.
Also, possibly my favorite first kiss in any novel ever.
Dean Winchester/Castiel (Supernatural): Possibly my first big fandom OTP, maybe? At least the one I was most invested in as it was happening. I love Dean and Castiel individually, love their roles and developments in the show (barring certain stupid decisions and lots of retconning in the writing, of course), but their dynamic added so much to the show.
Everything about them was so iconic. Lazarus Rising is probably one of my favorite episodes not just in the show, but in general. The whole buildup to their first meeting is so well done. From Dean crawling out of his shallow grave, over finding the handprint branded into his skin and Castiel's angelic voice literally making his ears bleed, over Pamela's eyes being burned out of her skull, to Castiel appearing on screen for the first time amid a rain of sparks.
Castiel looking at Dean with Jimmy Novak's ocean blue eyes, looking into his very soul, both bewildered and intrigued, and speaking out loud what we all suspected: "You don't think you deserve to be saved." - That shit broke me.
Castiel raised Dean from Hell, but Dean lured Castiel from Heaven: bit by bit and probably unintentionally, with no higher purpose in mind. He resented him, and then he let him in, bit by bit, until he had not just another compatriot, but a friend. A best friend, when always his family had come first.
There are so many memorable moments and I cannot possibly count them all. I did stop watching the show somewhere around Season 8, I think, but they always had a fond place in my heart. My friend knew as much and then, when the unthinkable happened last year, she sent me an article saying that Castiel had canonically confessed his love.
Well, that was weird and crazy and unexpected, and of course the show spectacularly ruined itself, but oh well. I will forever believe that Dean Winchester, a human, taught an angel to love and to rebel and to question the status quo. They both had shitty dads and brothers they loved and sometimes hated, they gave up everything and made many wrong decisions in their attempts to do the right thing, and they had each other, here and there, desperately clinging on to that.
Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, Earth. The literal Apocalypse. Their love will overcome a poorly written ending, too.
Ronan Lynch/Adam Parrish (The Raven Cycle/The Dreamer Trilogy): They see the sides of each other that most other people don’t even suspect exist. In a lot of ways, Ronan is soft and vulnerable and uncertain around Adam, and Adam sees all of that and more, sees the contractions that aren’t really contradictions at all. Likewise, Ronan sees the beyond Adam’s veneer, beyond the facade of him trying to achieve everything by himself, instead striving to be someone who gives him what he needs, albeit in an often roundabout and bristly manner. And Adam struggles against that but, eventually, he accepts it for the kind, selfless gesture it is.
I like both Adam and Ronan have suffered, in similar but different ways. Both their traumas are centered around their families and, as such, their healing and their love is sometimes diametrically opposed. Ronan wants to digs his fingers into someone and not let them go, grow his root in them and make a home. The concept of being on his own his anathema to him. Ronan, for all his appearance of being a loner and an outsider, is someone who clings on to his loved ones - his brothers, Gansey, Chainsaw, Opal, and Adam.
Adam, in contrast, is driven by the idea of “you cannot love someone before you love yourself.” Adam has shit to do, a reputation to build, a dream to fulfill. He wants to prove his father and all the naysayers wrong, and accepting seeming “charity” from rich people like Gansey and Ronan goes against his beliefs. He doesn’t want handouts, and it takes him a long time to realize that, just because Ronan’s love and affection are freely given, they are not equivalent to pity or even entitlement.
But they have secrets from each other, too, and they are not necessarily mature or stable enough to maintain a healthy relationship and good communication with all the crazy stuff going on in their lives, so I am curious to see how things will work out for them in the last part of the Dreamer Trilogy.
Shiro/Keith (Voltron): I will rail forever about how dirty they were don ein the series. The foundation of their friendship was so strong, so solid, the true bedrock of the entire series and the team's dynamic. And simultaneously so beyond the kind of friendship you generally see depicted. There was no macho male posturing between to alpha male heroes, just open vulnerability and gentle support.
I honestly believed Sheith would be endgame (and who can blame me with how much it was teased in different ways), and so I sat through a rapidly declining franchise. The Black Paladin episode made me think this was it, we were actually going to get something good after all, but then I quickly realized my error and jumped ship.
As in, I still ship them, but my god, I cannot believe how thoroughly the canon sunk that said ship. Obliterated it, even. Not fully confirming the pairing at the end is one thing; marrying Shiro off to some rando was... honestly more painful than your regular queerbaiting, but I won't go into that here.
Jafar/Scheherazade (Twisted): Quite niche and also a rather background relationship that only takes up a few minutes of the musical, but my god. They are so adorable and funny and tragic and sweet. It's the only time I will accept the fridged wife trope to establish a man's tragic past. That they got their happy ending after all was such a sweet relief and I am so grateful whenever I rewatch/listen to the soundtrack.
James T. Kirk/Spock (Star Trek): I admittedly mostly got into them after watching the remake movies, but I honestly love both dynamics. Nimoy and Shattner had such a fun dynamic, often tongue-in-cheeck and teasing, but also with serious and meaningful moments. Quinto and Pine have that origin story appeal, that canon divergence, that young hot guys hot-headedness and clashing of personalities.
In the remake, Spock and Kirk have to figure out how to work together, have to learn to rely on and trust each other. In the originals, they already have all that, comfortable like an old married couple, used to each other's habits and idiosyncrasies. They are new love and established love juxtaposed, and I adore both versions.
And, as you can see from this list, I simply love a captain and his right hand man.
There are more pairing that shaped me and that influenced my own writing and my general interest in how narratives are built. In general, I am always more interested in characters and, by extension, their dynamics with each other, than the plot and worldbuilding surrounding them. And, of course, this list does not necessarily reflect my thoughts on what real life relationships should be like (especially since most of them happen in extraordinary circumstances).

Joel Miller - Not a good man, but a good father
Tumblr media
I want to take a deep dive into one of my favorite video game characters of all time and walk through his motivations, flaws, his strengths, and ultimately his fatal flaws.
I recognize that this is probably not gonna be up to everyone's tastes, and that's okay. To those people I ask, move on, please don't bother me over a fictional character, you will be blocked.
For the people who are genuinely interested in a civilised discussion, I don't mind if you do, but depending on its context I might not engage because Joel's demise is also very triggering to me, and I promised my trauma therapist I would limit my engagement on this subject.
With that said, I wanna dig down deep into Joel.
Joel Miller is a complicated and highly stressed individual right from the start of the game. He's a hard working single father who does everything in his power to provide the best life he can for his daughter. In that pursuit he steps over his own boundaries so much that he suffers from high blood pressure, anxiety, and ulcers, and is quite literally, working himself into the ground.
It is universally accepted that he works as a carpenter pre apocalypse, and several books and magazines in his bedroom also suggest he is trying to start his own business.
He is a dedicated father to his only daughter Sarah, who he often takes on hikes and to museums and who he spends a lot of time with, despite his working schedule.
He enjoys local farmers markets, restaurants, barbecues, hunting, and fancy classic sports cars, as evidenced by paintings, flyers, a barbecue outside in his backyard, as well as a red sports car underneath some tarp, and he also enjoys coffee very much (but doesn't seem to clean his counters well), and has a Best dad rainbow mug that he presumably gets from Sarah.
Family also means a lot to him judging by the variety of family photos throughout his house.
And then tragedy strikes in the night from September 26 2013, to September 27 2013 and the apocalypse breaks out in his hometown and around the world.
The event kills 60% of the worldwide population presumably within the first year of the apocalypse.
As a result of the outbreak and the military's response to it, his daughter Sarah dies in Joel's arms. And just like that, Joel not only loses his greatest motivation to survive and gains trauma that stays with him for the rest of his life.
Judging from dialogue that he can have with Ellie, Joel becomes suicidal after Sarah dies and struggles with depression and ptsd, so much so that he still has nightmares 20 years after the fact.
During those 20 years, Joel's greatest motivation in life ironically becomes survival for both him and his brother.
My personal headcanon is that he failed to take his own life because he believes that someone needs to remember and honor Sarah and that becomes his sole motivation to keep himself and Tommy alive.
Joel's methods of survival are not very moral. He's ruthless and cunning, hunting down other survivors, perhaps even in an attempt to supress his own pain and suffering by inflicting it onto others. We know from several scenes that Joel was particularly cruel and vindictive and rather good at torturing and killing people.
Needles to say, he was not a good man during those 20 years. Some might even say he became a monster during the apocalypse. And they would be right. He absolutely was for a large portion of his life.
But even monsters can have humanity. And Joels humanity comes from caring about those he sees as family. Tommy, Sarah, Tess, Ellie, Maria, other residents in Jackson, all bring out the much calmer and caring side of Joel. We see this in several scenes in both part 1 and part 2.
Joel was a very complicated individual, a man who's trauma and experiences, further driven by an apocalypse that wiped the majority of humanity of the map, made him hardened and closed off and for a long time he let anger and fear rule him and his survival instinct. That is, until he met Ellie.
Because Ellie started cracking that exterior and brought out the 'dad' side of Joel. The compasionate and kind side that he displays at the end of part 1 and the start of part 2. The same compassion and kindness that eventually gets him killed.
Ironically, it's the mesh of that ruthlessness and that compassion that become his fatal flaws and create circumstances that lead to his death.
Make no mistake, Joel himself is the reason why he eventually meets his untimely death. He created those circumstances himself. First by using his ruthlessness and brutality to save Ellie and kill the surgeon that would have sacrificed her. And later, though his compassion and trust by helping the daughter of said surgeon survive a horde of infected.
But to say Joel was nothing more than a monster is a disservice to his character. Because we do see just how much Joel is capable of compassion, how thoughtful he is, and how protective he is of the people he cares about. We see this in his interactions with Ellie. We see it in the items he makes for the residents of Jackson. We see it in the way the people of Jackson interact with Joel.
We know Joel doesn't judge people for who they love, we know he doesn't care what the color of your skin is, and that he doesn't care what you've done in the past as long as you're willing to work with him towards a future.
Above all he is someone who has a need to protect the people around him. To learn of their interests and go out of his way to participate in them as best as he can.
But he also listens to them, respects their wishes once they've been spoken out to him (he may need a minute at times), and keeps his distance as much as he is capable once someone he loves tells him to back off.
However you see this character, one cannot deny that he is duality itself. A man who's not morally good by any means, and yet he was a great dad to two young women who needed him.
The duality in Joel is that his greatest flaws are also his greatest strengths and ultimately become his undoing.

As claude is my fav character in FE16 one of the things that confused me about people praising Three Hopes GW as the "true claude" because GW Claude uses more violent methods to get what he wants and therefore somehow that means he's the manipulative schemer we the devs always intended , it just made me go ??? Like what??
Cause as your post pointed out, he already was a manipulative schemer in FE16. like we know he uses people to try to push things in his favor, but because it wasnt outright violent then somehow that made him a goody two shoes???
Like uh no. He's not a goody two shoes and he has always been morally ambiguous. he always had these flaws. it's one of the reasons I like his character.
the difference was he drew a line at how far he'd go.
Like why bother using force or violence when you have Hilda to charm people into doing what you want? Why fight the church when you can use them to bring in recruits to take down Edelgard and end her war? Why not use Byleths influence to bring people together in Fodlan and then use them to establish peaceful relations between Fodlan and Almyra? Why use violence at all when you can use guile.
Anyway hes always been a little shit lmfao. I can't blame people for not liking him for it either its totally understandable! The reasons you dislike him are why I like (and hate) him. He's secretive and he's manipulative, always has been.
But to his credit, he does have his limits and when he goes too far he steps back , apologizes or admits his faults, reevaluates and tries to do better- with ehh varying outcomes. And that's so realistically human. He's a work in progress.
He chooses to seek the truth, he always wants more information, and he's willing to hear people out. This plus his self awareness and willingness to change his view based on new information is IMO his greatest strengths. Everyone has biases, but how many of us are able to look at ourselves and consider what if I'm wrong.
By the end of the game his character is very different from where he began. His stance on Rhea and Fodlans faith by the end of VW is perhaps one of the most obvious changes.
whoops my venting warped into this LOL sorry 😭😭😭
Ooh don't worry!
I actually don't mind talking about characters with people who don't share the same opinions, if I had to talk to myself it'd be pretty boring lol
But yep, as you said, Claude is a work in progress, and I'll even say he still evolves between VW's end and his epilogue card*!
Yellow units have always been a wild card in FE, they're not your allies like green units, but they have their own allegeances and might become enemy units later on, or not.
And even if Claude has a manipulative streak and sometimes prioritizes his goals instead of the means used to reach that goal, Fe16's Claude is a Claude who is shown being able to take a step back, reconsider, realise he's wrong and ultimately move in another direction.
Claude can apologise and learn.
But there are lines Claude will not cross to reach his goals, at least in Fe16. And those lines are what Flamey jumps over during WC.
Come Nopes and... Clout crosses the same lines VW's Claude wouldn't have crossed, Claude can manipulate and be sneaky, Claude doesn't start wars. Fe16's Claude offers his sympathies to Billy after Jerry kicks the bucket, he doesn't give Billy his best Caellach impersonation.
And when his Nopes version refuses to consider other POVs or even reconsider, it's annoying because, hey, we know Nopes wasn't supposed to portray the lords in a good light else the player who inserted in Billy would feel bad, but we came from a Claude who learns and admits (even if it's subtle) he was wrong...
To a 1st year undergraduate student who thinks he is smarter than everyone in the room, and doesn't even bother to read his syllabus. Claude graduated, Clout didn't, and we have to follow the "non developed" Clout in Nopes making bad decisions on top of bad decisions... Yeah, I can see why it's really annoying for fans of guys character.
* I earlier checked the VW ending painting thingie, Claude apparently is holding a treaty to alliance lords and they are negotiating? But while both sides are backed up by soldiers, only the Almyran ones have weapons?
I know Almyra is a sour subject - I can think of both doylist and watsonian reasons why Claude never adresses the elephant in the room, even in the Fe16 room - but ultimately in his ending cards Almyra and Fodlan finally have their famous peaceful relationships and king Claude even furthers bonds with the two states, so it sort of worked in the end!

list of star wars posts that irritated me. one was along the lines of “why are people so happy to not see jedi in something? they’re what make star wars unique from other scifi/fantasy” 1) wrong 2) let me explain
for one thing the need to have something so deeply entrenched in Multiple Genres be “unique” is very funny to me, because it’s not. og star wars is essentially an arthurian tale in space. add to that the fact that GL’s inspiration came directly from a bazillion ww1/2 films and you’re arguing a point about standing out that.. doesn’t really exist. sure the jedi are a “unique faction” to see in science fiction, but they’re also a religious order of space monks. even somebody who has never seen anything related to star wars could get some idea of the jedi based off that combination of words.
second, why do you like the jedi so goddamn much? this is the thing that always frustrates me. there’s a difference between force-users and the capital J Jedi. you went from religious space monks in the original trilogy, to a fascinating shift in perspective in the prequels/clone wars in which they are religious space cops serving an increasingly fascist government when they’re supposedly not meant to get involved in government affairs unless it’s basically a human rights issue, but ultimately end up committing sooo many violations of that sort. they’re horrendous to the clones, to droids, regularly treating both groups the same--disposable and not-people. they’re not all-knowing and have absolutely no idea what’s coming for them when order 66 comes around, despite the unsubtle clues. hot take, obi-wan IS partially at fault for what ultimately happens to anakin--because he continued to uphold a dying system and ideology that actively drove people to the dark side and refused to connect on any emotional level with anyone because of the jedi code.
i love the jedi for their flaws, and star wars is ultimately at its most interesting fantastical point when it criticizes them, as in TLJ. burning the codex was poignant and cool as hell. but limiting star wars to just the jedi is just dull. there’s so much more going on there, politically, sociologically, economically, etc. you get the bare minimum information about that packaged in bad writing in the prequels and the clone wars cartoon, little itty bitty morsels of finally fleshing this strange galaxy out in a way that makes some sort of disjointed sense. andor takes the whole thing at face-value and decides to turn it into something legible and personal in a way star wars hasn’t since the originals. it proves that you don’t need the jedi to make star wars cool, and yet every time there’s a red herring with luthen, I lose my fucking mind, because I love the idea of finally getting an INTERESTING jedi. but i would honestly prefer it if he wasn’t.
star wars is cool and interesting because of all that (politics & logistics), having cool big huge ships and caring about that design in terms of speed and what those ships are used for (i.e. tie fighters were created to patrol planets, not chase after X-wings, which is why they eat it a lot), time scales that make no fucking sense apart from trying really hard to make space smaller than it is, unique sound design, differing designs of people and planets that star trek couldn’t come anywhere close to, and a lot more.
also, just because this is the most obvious point. the jedi are fucking dead in andor. yeah yeah certain people escaped. they’re in hiding. do you remember how obi wan went to be a hermit for like 20 years. yall just fucking forget about order 66 as soon as you complain about there not being jedi in something. do you understand the scale of that situation. do you understand how many people were killed. fake fan

My season four theory: Reggie has redesigned the universe with himself at the centre. At first, the Umbrellas will think their job is done and will attempt to get on with their lives sans powers.
However, they will soon realise that a world of Reg’s design is worse than no world at all and without their powers they are helpless to defend themselves against this terrifying new regime.
Five will need to regain his powers and travel back in time to undo all the work of the previous three seasons, leading us back to the apocalypse of season one, which was always meant to happen.
Needing to ensure the timeline goes exactly as it should, he will be forced to found an organisation that monitors and regulates the space-time continuum. He will employ thousands of agents to achieve this aim, using time-travelling briefcases powered by his abilities. He will live a long and lonely life, cloistered from society, as the enigmatic founder of the Temps Commission.
When his younger self drops in on him near the end of his life, the 100-year-old Five will attempt to tell him: “Whatever you do, don’t save the world.”
He will lose his arm in an unrelated kitchen waste disposal incident.
Thoughts?
...you know I can see the vision.
I think that with the exact right execution it could work as a tragedy. It almost makes sense because there would be no worse fate in his mind and no greater failure. It goes against everything Five is and so it would be the ultimate cruel irony.
For decades, Five's only goal is to stop the apocalypse and make it home. It helps him to hold on to some semblance of sanity. And to his humanity. All while in impossibly inhuman conditions. He rebels against the Commission and the idea that time is fixed, rejecting the idea that our fate is sealed and we are helpless to change it. His very core is made of pure concentrated willpower. The very essence of Five is to fight, to claw tooth and nail against every boundary and limit and sacrifice himself over and over again in order to save everyone else.
(Which is why I felt his giving up was... weird... this season. Like I can almost see him getting to a point where he would feel that there is nothing he can do... but I don't feel like that low point was really justified/deserved this season. It didn't have enough build up from where we left him last season. He had majorly powered up and destroyed the entire Board in order to restore things to how they ought to be. He doesn't seem the type to settle for the Hotel and flawed timeline where they could run into their alternate selves at any moment. If I was writing the season I would have had him be more lost and directionless without a clear goal to fulfill. Maybe have him trying to restore the timeline and have the others insist that they call it quits while they are ahead??? His retirement would be awkward and half-hearted. Of course, Allison would have been on board with him wanting to fix things and then she wouldn't have gone off the deep end so much so that would interrupt that storyline... Maybe what was needed was just a More Significant reason for him to give up in general. For Five to more explicitly state that he was afraid of making things even worse if they kept tampering or something. I think this is what they were going for, they just didn't establish it clearly/strongly enough. Whatever, this is a ramble. Anyway--)
The point is, I do really like the idea of Five as a tragic figure. I think an ending where it is revealed that the game was over before it even began would be absolutely heart-shattering. Gut wrenching. To see him fight so hard for decades only to realize that it was all for nothing, that he was blindly charging down a path towards his own destruction, that in trying to save his family he dragged them through far more pain living through three or four apocalypses than they would have endured dying in the first one... it would be devastating. If done just so it could be fulfilling as much as it would be eviscerating. It would be a complete and utter defeat and Five would have to betray not only his entire family but his entire sense of self and all he stands for by becoming the thing he hates.
Of course, it would be a very tall order to do well. It would be very hard to thread the needle in a way that executes that "strings of fate, loop of agony, sink to become the thing you hated" thing without feeling like a total destruction of the character and dismissal of the point of the show. The switch would have to flip at the last second, to keep Five (and us) full of hope as long as possible and only reveal that it was all for naught at the final moment when it is far, far too late to do anything. The audience would have to be convinced and on board with Five until that moment of realization. We should experience it together so that when the ashes fall, we can't blame him for the actions he takes. When we see there horrific, painful end... and it destroys us because there was nothing else he could have done.
It could work.
And I love a good tragedy
But honestly?
I just want to see him win.
I want him to be right.
That there is a way out.
That his love for his family is greater than any other force in all of time and space.
That he can bend reality to his will for the sake of the people he cares about.
That there is always a choice, a way out, another chance.
That is is never too late.
I want him to spit in the face of every single person who told him to give up.
I want the last scene to be Five, utterly content as he sits down and finally goes still, as he looks at his family and sees them safe and happy and alive and whole, and then, finally, he gets to rest.

"Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
In the first few minutes of the film, we witness Oppenheimer in a complex state of mind, torn between conflicting emotions. He gave potassium cyanide to his own professor due to the professor's behavior, yet he also ran to save his professor's life. This duality illustrates that Oppenheimer, like every other human being, is a mix of both good and flawed aspects.
The film is not solely about the creation of destructive weapons like the hydrogen bomb or atom bomb. Instead, it delves into the depths of our human conscience, challenging us to confront profound moral dilemmas. It compels us to ask ourselves: If we knew that our actions could trigger a devastating chain reaction and potentially destroy the world, what choices would we make?
Oppenheimer's decision-making process showcases the complexities of wielding power. He understood that even a small action, akin to a single drop of water in a lake, can create ripples and waves. While aware of the potential for catastrophic consequences, he still chose to pursue creating the bomb. This underscores the human tendency to grapple with the allure of power and the temptation to wield it, even when it might have grave ramifications.
Albert Einstein's warning to Oppenheimer highlights the selfish nature of the world, which may label him an anti-hero once his services are no longer required. Despite this, Oppenheimer proceeded, giving the world the power of destruction. He became, in a sense, the God of death, exposing the inherent consequences that come with immense power.
Nevertheless, the film serves as a call for self-reflection and restraint. Just like Oppenheimer, we too are both creators and destroyers. The choices we make hold the potential for chain reactions, but if someone takes a stand to halt destructive paths, the chain reaction can cease.
As we enter an AI-driven world, where the relinquishing of power raises uncertainty, it becomes even more crucial to recognize the importance of setting limits. We must acknowledge the lessons of history, where the thirst for power through wars led to destructive outcomes. The next frontier may be AI, but we must exercise caution and pause somewhere along the way.
Ultimately, we possess the capacity to be both destroyers and saviors. Emphasizing our role as protectors and builders, we can shape a future that embraces progress and innovation while being mindful of the potential consequences of unchecked power. By acting responsibly and with consideration for the greater good, we can pave the way for a more constructive and harmonious world.
The original verse in the Bhagavad Gita is spoken by Lord Krishna to the warrior Arjuna during the great Kurukshetra War. In this context, Krishna reveals his universal form to Arjuna, showcasing the divine power and destructive force that he wields as the ultimate force in the universe.
Oppenheimer's choice to quote this line from the Bhagavad Gita upon witnessing the successful test of the atomic bomb reflects the profound impact and ethical weight of the moment. It demonstrates his awareness of the immense destructive potential of the weapon he helped create and the responsibility that came with it.
J. Robert Oppenheimer is called the "American Prometheus" because he led the Manhattan Project, which aimed to build the first atomic bomb during World War II. This nickname highlights the moral dilemmas of his work and the atomic bomb's development, reminding us of humanity's power to achieve great things but also cause destruction. It urges us to use scientific knowledge and technology responsibly.

Here are ten principles that should serve as a precursor to spiritual development. Before getting into the mystical truths of reality, these principles need to be understood to lay the foundation for spiritual development. Some of these principles mildy contradict some of the more esoteric facts of the universe but nevertheless they will allow one to silence their own minds in order to take the next steps towards Love.
1. That there is a Universal Order
In order to exist something must have some type of structure or composition. Both structure and composition are types of order. Chaos is an illusion and only appears as disorder when in reality it is just a very complex type of order that may not settle easily in the human understanding.
2. That ultimate truth is not subjective but also may not be possible to comprehend
What we perceive as real is likely just a limited interpretation of the Noumenon or thing-in-itself and due to environmental and genetic differences, one human being may perceive reality differently than the next. However, since the entire universe seems to function based on certain fundamental principles, it is not likely that person x and person y are perceiving two distinct versions of ultimate reality. In fact, it is much more likely that both individuals are experiencing a flawed and finite interpretation of an ultimate reality that defies human comprehension.
3. That evil does not exist as a distinct entity
The assertion of evil's existence as a supernatural power at the very least disproves the legitimacy of an all loving, all powerful God. If God is all loving, he would not allow evil to prey upon innocent human beings. However, if evil is preying upon innocent human beings and God does not stop it he is either a) not all loving or b) not all-powerful or c) both. It is much easier to imagine evil as the absence of good rather than an existing force etc. For those that do believe in an all loving God, it is much easier to accept that we can choose not to be good out of personal free choice rather than being tempted away from it by a monstrous power that God facilitates. Therefore, evil is really just a projection of human ego onto the world, either in thought or in force and therefore can be overcome on an individual level even without the necessity of divine intervention.
4. That honesty is the highest virtue
Telling the truth makes perfect sense in all but the most extreme situations. When we lie, we distort another person's view of reality. We limit their ability to navigate the world because they are working with flawed data. Throwing another individual into a world of illusion is clearly a horrible thing to do and a kind of attack on their individual freedom. That we should feel fear, shame and discomfort upon revealing the truth is not a valid excuse to attack another individual's freedom. When we all have the facts laid bare, we can act in our mutual best interest but when we are working with false facts we may be acting against ourselves without even knowing it.
5. That superficial differences do not justify acts of hatred or violence
Differences in age, race, gender, height, weight, religion, class, intellect etc. are omnipresent. It seems that nature, and by extension civilization, produces them constantly. There is no sign that these differences will stop being produced. Most superficial differences do not say anything about the deeper nature of an individual. If we know that person x is hateful and enjoys hurting other people we are clearly justified in casting judgment on them. However, the fact that someone is a female Muslim who is 43 years old and has brown eyes and makes 28,000 dollars a year and has in IQ of 114 tells us absolutely nothing about their personal character or the things they value. Therefore, judgement based on such differences has no reasonable basis and is sure to cause needless confusion and calamity.
6. That Love is unconditional
There are many things that masquerade as love: sexual attraction, emotional attachment, admiration, obsession and so forth. Love is the purest state of being because it accepts rather than judges, gives rather than takes away and regards with total exuberance that which is often pitiful, broken and incomplete. When we are loved unconditionally we are touched at the deepest part of our being and we know that we are understood and cared for free of conditions and expectations. Whenever we attach conditions or expectations to a relationship, we diminish our ability to Love. We may like a person very much, but we cannot love them if they are always failing to live up to our self-created idea of who they should be rather than who they really are.
7. That negative emotions are not negative
A full range of healthy emotions includes both joy and sorrow. One is dependant on the other and both have their right place and time. When we treat our unpleasant feelings as somehow invalid or wrong we end up viewing around half of the healthy spectrum of emotions as unhealthy. This is a dangerous and harmful belief to have. In order to be emotionally healthy we must accept all our feelings: pleasant and unpleasant.
8. That Our Society is Good
Though flawed in many ways, our society exists almost always to the benefit of the individual. Here a person is automatically fed, clothed and given shelter. They are protected from harm to a reasonable degree and many opportunities exist for human flourishing. The negative qualities of this society do not outweigh the positive ones. For every individual hurt by our society, there seems to be ten times that amount who have been lifted up by it. Tragedy and misfortune still abound, but it is a grand privilege, especially in a historical context, to enjoy all the societal benefits that we enjoy. This particular society also seems to be moving in a more egalitarian direction, which means that more and more people will be graced with security and opportunity.
9. That death should not be feared
We're all going to die. That's a fact. Every single person alive at this moment will die one day. If we lived forever, what would be the point of doing anything? Death gives life its urgency and its flavour; its spice and its bitterness. Eternity on earth would eventually grow tiresome... and we would likely die of boredom! Even if our consciousness is destroyed upon the moment of our death, that just means we are in for eternal peace, which is not something worthy of fear and despair. All our problems and worries will disappear forever. Does that really sound so bad?
10. That God is Unity
Period.

It feels impossible to love someone so much. To love them with your soul, with the whole of your heart. With everything you can possibly give. You find yourself loving them, yet.
Yet you’ve never met them. Yes, you know who they are, but your eyes have never looked into one another’s. Your voices have never said a word to the other without the distortion of distance; of digital interference.
But you still love them. It hurts, too. It hurts, the thousands of miles between. Photos, videos; that’s all you have to see their beauty. Their voice will never be clear until you come face to face.
It seems impossible. Unreal. Fictional. Maybe it is. Maybe it isn’t. There’s no way to know, not until you try. Trying is hard, terrifying. It’s akin to diving headfirst into the unknown. No, it is diving headfirst into the unknown.
Shit will hit the fan. You may cry, you may laugh, you may love.
The distance hurts. Not telling them how you feel hurts.
I find myself thinking a lot these days, and I’ve come to a conclusion.
There’s nothing I want more than to say those three simple words. Not across a screen, not across the continent. To say these words directly, even knowing that my heart may break.
I have so much I want to say. The kindness in his gaze, the curiosity in his posture. The humor in his smile, the affection in his tone. How brave he is, how inspirational, for achieving every goal he’s set his mind to. Even in the face of adversity, he keeps walking. Even as the storm tries to drown him, even as the hurricane tries to knock him down, he keeps walking. Of course, he may stumble, of course, he may be pushed back. But with each step back he takes two more forwards.
His patience is admirable, even if it knows limit. Yes, he is young, yes, he makes mistakes. But, ultimately, we all are. We are all young. We all make mistakes.
We are all human.
And that is why I love him, I think. He is human. He doesn’t hide his flaws. He doesn’t lie to appear perfect. He doesn’t fake his authenticity. His ego has never changed who he is, and that, I believe, is perfection.
I do not consider him perfect. I do not want to. I would not want to. Perfection is a lie. It is something we have conjured as a means to protect ourselves. To hide our true selves from the cruel world we inhabit. From the glares, the whispers, the insults.
But I find perfection… nauseating. Nobody is perfect. Nobody can or will be, so why would I want someone perfect?
No. I would rather someone with their flaws. I would rather laugh at immature jokes. I would rather stay out and blast air horns for the fun of it. I would rather buy the most expensive clothes just to roll in a mud pit. I would rather live life the way I want to than conform to the expectations of society.
And I feel that he does too.
There may never be a reason for why I feel the way I do. Not a good one, anyways. But I find myself loving a soul I’ve never met, and that’s alright. That’s alright, because I too am imperfect.
I don’t know that I have the courage at this moment to tell him these things. I don’t know, not because I don’t believe it, but because I have not had the opportunity. So for now, I will wait, and I will hope.
The journey is not supposed to be easy. Obstacles cleared make you stronger, more prepared for the time you are to meet in person.
And when that time does come, I will tell him this:
€̴̡̜̥̖̹͎̤̘̙̬͍̩̌͒͊̆̈́́̍̋͗̽̍̈̆̅ͅͅͅ%̴̡͖̦͖͇̞͎͋͒̐̉̈́̔̏̎̇̀͗ͅ&̷̢̛̛͉͖̫͈̭̱̱̮̝̝̣̠͍̈́͑̑͊̑̓͛̾̉̏̈͒̈́ͅ?̷̙͇̽͑̄̐̓̂̈̄̂̂̊̈͠, I love you. Not for who you act, not for the facade you hide behind to protect yourself. For who you are. I see who you are, but there is still much I don’t see. I would be honored to walk by your side. I would be honored to be your companion, to help you through your darkest days. And I would be honored to call you mine. No matter what happens, I will love you, no matter how hard it may be. If you need space, I’ll give it. If you need a silent soul beside your own, I’ll be it. And if we choose to part ways, I’ll always remember the good times we shared.

Not to condone genocide, imperialism, and abuse on main but I truly am obsessed with John Gaius. I can never thank Ms Muir enough for this fascinating and strange little god man. I would love to study him. I know everyone else is in this fandom because of the lesbians but the best experience I’ve had reading these books is seeing the figure of god teased out and alluded to throughout gtn and learning in htn that he is Just Some Guy with the most Just Some Guy name of all time. And then later in htn learning that he is also, fundamentally, horny. The necrolord prime, emperor of the nine houses is a terrifying megalomaniacal immortal hell bent on interplanetary domination who is also, and I cannot stress this enough, a fucking nerd. This is peak character concept and peak villain. Everyone go home
John Gaius is like if Jonah Magnus succeeded at ending the world but still retained all of his mundane human shitty boss qualities. John Gaius is like if the creepiest of your high school teachers ascended to godhood but still wanted to overshare about his marriage problems to his students every now and then. John Gaius has been god for 10,000 slutty slutty years and he misused every single one. John Gaius makes meme references that were probably already incredibly out of date when he was alive, and yet he’s STILL MAKING THEM 10,000 years later. John Gaius is the universe’s shittiest absent father. John Gaius sees one of his few surviving old friends repeatedly attempt to murder the child under his care and goes “hm. Concerning” before doing Nothing about it. I am OBSESSED with this deeply human and messy all-powerful malevolent god, nobody is doing it like him
Edit he ordered the child murder. How did I forget that he ordered the child murder. And then he told the child he wished she was his daughter. Cool and normal things!

Alright, lads, if we’re going to analyse pre-script Season One like it’s Season Three, I might as well have fun doing it. Here’s my take on general anti-L’Manberg sentiment that I wholeheartedly disagree with.
The first claim is that “Wilbur only wanted power in L’Manberg”, and I’m like... yes? Nice observation, boss man? That was kind of the point of most of his individual motivation? Why is this an argument, and why is ambition being portrayed as a bad thing?
Wilbur has made it very clear he sought power to make a change, and to have an impact in the world. He doesn’t value meaningless power (recall how he refuses leadership titles that bear no weight). He’s reasserted this multiple times - so many times that I don’t think it’s a lie!
He made L’Manberg to stand up to a perceived oppressor after he discovers his own freedoms are limited (re: the pilot stream where he cannot do a single thing without intervention - and you can claim they weren’t police all you like, but civilians don’t often have access to prisons - to the point where people had to hide in his van).
“Dream wasn’t involved beforehand, so why is he a figurehead for this conflict?” Wilbur associates Dream with this image of the server. Why, do you ask? Here’s a guess: The faction’s called the Dream SMP! Not to mention that most pre-war conflict was more akin to teasing (“Alright, Dream, have fun with your infinite women.” [paraphrased]) rather than antagonism. Weren’t they even open to diplomatic methods such as an embassy?
“Wilbur used propaganda during his Presidency, and against Dream.” Wilbur was a politician, and he ultimately used propaganda only in his political campaign. You know, because he was running for President? In an election?
Most members of L’Manberg disliked Dream anyway because of their individual encounters with him - and, even if they didn’t, he would reassert this negative position on the regular (don’t forget the time Dream gave Schlatt a gun and let him go to town on a peaceful gathering, as a random case example).
And, even then. Why is it a crime for Wilbur to have warned newer members of his nation against someone who he literally watched blow up his country and shoot Tommy to death in a duel? I don’t understand the logic.
“The walls caused segregation and division.” The walls were defense. One of Wilbur’s main character flaws is that he refuses to let people in (to his mind, to his heart, to his nation). He is a defensive person. Not to mention - they’re border marks! How do you initially claim land without having any way to mark said land..?
“Wilbur admitted he didn’t care about L’Manberg in his newest stream, which gives this new context.” Uh, yeah, and then he stared at the Camaravan wistfully for a solid ten seconds. Just because a character says he’ll tell the truth doesn’t make that the case...
“Wilbur continuously villainised Dream and encouraged causing conflict with him.” Wilbur has sided with Dream before in order to prevent conflict (The Railway Skirmish).
“Tubbo once remarked that actually, their freedoms weren’t that limited, so L’Manberg was unnecessary.” Wilbur isn’t Tubbo. Wilbur doesn’t have Tubbo’s experiences. Actually, I think Tommy might disagree with that, too - you know, because he fought a war, kept getting imprisoned, and the like?
“Wilbur reacted so harshly to exile because he lost his power, and that’s all he cared about.” Okay. Why does this make him a bad, immoral person? I can even relate to this. I’ve reacted harshly when I’ve lost power unexpectedly! Tell me, does that make me power hungry? Or does that make me human? It’s common knowledge that Wilbur used L’Manberg as an unhealthy coping mechanism, to the point where it hurt him.
...also, he did literally get shot to death, and was still being hunted, which was actually more the main contributor to his decline because it was born of paranoia, but we’ll leave that out.
Basically:
Was Wilbur perfectly morally sound? No! Nobody on the server is! His business had some immoral practices of theft and the like. Does this mean L’Manberg is innately corrupt? No! It developed into a genuine escape after the horrors of war (the war that was initiated by Dream).
Final conclusion: Wilbur wasn’t evil, L’Manberg wasn’t evil, drugs weren’t illegal, ambition isn’t inherently evil, propaganda isn’t inherently evil, and we need to stop misusing the word manipulate.

So! What about the god ok switch-a-roo? The pillarmen are now human and their s/os are pillarmen!
I interpreted this request as body swapping (similar to what we see in a much later part of JoJo) and I hope this is what you meant, my dear Anon! 🙏❤🥰
If not and you meant for me to write this in another way, I am SO sorry I misinterpreted the request and I sincerely hope you still enjoy this nonetheless! 😅😇
Body swapping with the Pillarmen! 😱 🔁
(Under the cut for length!)
Tumblr media
Kars:
• Ending up in your body will piss Kars off more than anything really.
• Don't get him wrong, he loves you with all his heart; it's just that he's a man who is rather comfortable in his superiority and status over your race.
• He had worked VERY hard to get himself where he wanted to be afterall...
• Suddenly being reduced to a mere Human is enough to make his (er... your) stomach turn.
• Kars' new "limitations" in your body however didn't stop him from working out how this happened and, more importantly, how to UNDO it ASAP.
• When you happen to come to in Kars' body, the feeling is unsettling and strange to say the least.
• Piloting not only a Pillarmans body but Ultimate lifeform's as well will take you some getting used to for sure.
• For one thing, you'll come to find his hair gets in the way of EVERYTHING.
• If the wind blows or if you happen to turn sharply it's suddenly in your (well... his, but you get the idea) mouth or sticking in your eyes or just plain in your face!
• You can't understand how he stands it at all!
• There's no time for you to ask him to teach you how to wrap it up like he does either to remedy the issue so you have to grin and bear it.
• On the other hand, even the slightest jump in your emotions makes his arm blades spring forth!
• You almost ended up accidentally stabbing Kars (while he was in your body) as a result of getting worked up over the whole matter.
• Kars could only watch you floundering about in his body, frowning and shaking your human head as he told you repeatedly to keep calm and they'll stay put.
• As if you could keep level-headed at all in this situation as it was.
• On the upside ot things however... you learn some interesting things about Kars.
• "...Wait." you paused, peering down at the muscular legs beneath you; your eyes bore into Kars' boots with a critical gaze. There was something cushy sitting just below the heel on the inside.
• "Do you... have cloth wedged into your boots?" A sangria eyebrow raised, ruby eyes falling onto Kars.
• You watched as the features of your own face shifted dramatically, mouth falling open, scandalized. "I--" he began, but your voice fell short as he couldn't find anything to say in defense.
• "Do you do this to make yourself look taller?" A wheeze rose up in the Pillarman's chest, rich barking laughter ringing out as you doubled over in laughter.
• You suddenly came to the realization that you had never once seen Kars without his boots off, the pumps at the very bottom of the boots gave him a little boost as it was but on the inside it quite literally felt like you were wearing a pair of high heels.
• You were starting to wonder just how tall Kars really was. Hell, you were starting to wonder if he even passed Santana in height without these boots on!
• Your laughter fell short as a familiar, much smaller, hand reached up and grabbed your new body by the scarf. You were hauled down to meet the burning and intense gaze of your own eyes, Kars snarling right up into his own face.
• Jeeze, had your face always looked that red when you got angry before?
• "If you speak of this to ANYONE, I will spill each and every one of your own secrets to the others," he growled lowly, giving your voice an uncharacteristically harsh and grating tone. "Am I clear?"
• It took all you had inside not to call him "shortie" once things were finally back to the way they were and you both settled back into your own bodies.
• Despite your curiosity, your question on his exact height would never get answered.
• Kars knew how to put those arm blades to use better than you of course...
Esidisi:
• Oh boy... you have to be VERY careful piloting this one.
• And I mean the absolute definition of careful!
• When your consciousness ends up transfered into Esidisi's body, its no surprise that you feel very warm and fuzzy on the inside.
• It's almost a feeling akin to when you sit just a little too long in a bath that's a little too hot.
• Strangely, it was actually kind of a comforting feeling amongst this whole ordeal.
• However, if you're not careful with your emotions (warm and fuzzy feeling or not) than you might just accidentally end up burning a hole right through the Earth!
• Or worse... end up spraying scalding hot blood and flaying fleshy veins dripping with the stuff in all directions.
• Your core temperature has to constantly be monitored or you'll pay the price.
• It seems like even if you unfocus for one singular second, the Pillarman's entire body starts to smolder like a cake burning in an oven!
• Esidisi, on the other hand, is actually quite enjoying being in your body.
• He's having a much better time than you are for sure. In fact, he's laughing like this is nothing more than a game to him!
• You'll have to keep your eyes on him because he can't keep his (or rather, your) hands off your body.
• "Esidisi!" You barked, the Pillarman's voice was like the clap of thunder as it raised in octave; clearing the air with its power and inevitably startling you (again) even though you were the one wielding it. "Get your hands out of there, right now!"
• Your command was met with laughter, you watched as a wide grin stretched across your own face as Esidisi pried your hands off of your behind (for the 3rd time) and tucked them neatly into your pockets as he continued to giggle to himself.
• "I wasn't doing anything~" he purred, making your voice sound uncannily like a bad child playing innocent, acting wasn't just caught squeezing your cake.
• He was being to curious for his own good.
• That and the fact that he's taking enjoyment out of little ordinary Human things while piloting your body
• Things like feeling actual pain when skin is pinched or when hair is pulled seemed like it could entertain him for hours on end.
• If you don't keep a close eye on him and his shenanigans, you might just end up getting your body back all banged and bruised up if he goes too far with his fun.
• Fair enough, as he might just get his back half-burned into the ground or covered in blood...
Wamuu:
• Wamuu straight up does NOT have a good time dealing with suddenly being Human.
• The fact that it's your body he's in doesn't help that any either.
• 12/10 would NOT do again. 0 STARS!
• Wamuu, always a composed and calculating Warrior and tactician, was now in full panic mode.
• All his life he carried himself with pride, building his little ego off all his strengths and victories because of his status and his incredible unmatchable power.
• Now, with all of that ripped away from him, the Warrior felt too vulnerable and naked for his liking in this Human form.
• "Ow! OW!!!" Wamuu cried, eyes wide as your hands flew to your back. "Why does it hurt there? Do you always have pain like this?" Came the question, it was more than strange (and a little unsettling) to hear your own voice asking you that so desperately.
• "You get used to it." You replied, the deepness of the Pillarman's voice sending deep vibrations through the hardened chest as you spoke.
• "Why-- Why does this body feel so sluggish? I feel so inexplicably weary..." "I know. You get used to that too." "WHY IS EVERYTHING SORE?! WHY IS EVERYTHING CREAKING?!" "It's fine. That's normal."
• On the other hand, your mind suddenly being swapped into Wamuu's body isn't quite as bad as being in the others but... there are still some things to get used to.
• For one thing, it was hard to get used to simply walking around in it.
• Wamuu was so immensely big, muscular and heavy that you felt as if you were shaking the Earth with each step, causing you to lumber and stumble around with no grace to speak of.
• For another, a wirlwind just seemed to follow you wherever you went. It was honestly harder to control than it looked!
• When you wanted it to move one way, it went another. Wind blew up, wind blew down.
• You found yourself standing around, massive hands flying to the loincloth in an attempt to keep it from flinging up and showing too much.
• You wanted to spare least a shred of Wamuu's lost dignity while he wasn't piloting his own body after all.
• His horn is an entirely different matter.
• At one point the breeze blew too strong and the Pillarmen's signature headpiece suddenly flew right off his head and then... out sprang the horn.
• It shot 18 feet into the air, skewering two trees and drilling right through them like an overcharged power drill; a terrifying whir filling the air as chunks of wood flayed in every direction.
• The entire time you screamed in terror (you had no idea Wamuu's voice could go so high until that moment), slicing through an entire plot of trees as Wamuu yelled for you to put it away before it went for something breathing... like your own body that he was currently inhabiting.
• In the end, the relief you both feel to be back in your own bodies once the entire mess is fixed is immeasurable.
• You also both agree to never speak of the experience again for as long as you live.
Santana:
• Much like Kars, Santana is more unimpressed about the whole thing rather than upset or worried.
• Apart from you of course, Santana just barely tolerated Humans (or Primitives as he liked to call them) as it was.
• He often spoke about how fragile and flawed your kind was, honestly the defenselessness of a Human was laughable in his eyes.
• Therefore, he absolutely does NOT like suddenly being reduced to one, even if it is your body.
• The entire time he's practically pouting, the very definition of apathetic, grumbling to himself and following close behind as you tried to chase down the person responsible for the swap.
• "This form is... limiting." Came the low growl, each word sounding so very unlike you despite the fact it was your voice he was using. Santana practically spat as he kept talking, "Flawed. Primal. Defenseless."
• You were handling things admittedly better than Santana but it was still more than overwhelming.
• For one thing, you'll come to find that Santana's senses are extremely heightened.
• You never realized how very unbelieveably strong a sense of smell, taste and hearing could be until now.
• You could smell animals that had passed through the area nearly a fortnight ago just by putting your nose to the air. You could hear the thumping of your own heart from where it sat back in your own chest as Santana followed close at your heels.
• For another thing... Santana's body felt... odd.
• It was a strange and indescribable feeling; it was best put as you felt like a substance that constantly balanced between solid and liquid.
• How on Earth could he stand being a living mass of puddy and sharp deadly bones all the time?!
• As Santana kept grumbling about how very imperfect his new form was, your only hope was to give him that huge bag of gummy bears you had been saving in your bag for later to snack on.
• It would give you a moment of silence to think straight. However, if Santana was himself that would've been a good idea but in this case... not so much.
• "What's wrong?" You questioned, the Pillarman's gravely voice holding a different tone than you were used to as you used it, studying him.
• Santana had suddenly stopped following and was now slumped over, clutching at your stomach. A low whine surfaced, almost a sob, as he spoke through clenched teeth.
• "Do.... not.... feel..... good." Came the whimper. You came rushing to his side, your temorary body dwarfing your real one as you pulled Santana close to see if he had somehow gotten hurt.
• "What--" the question fell short as you spied the now very empty bag of gummy bears laying nearby.
• That bag had been huge, filled to the brim with bright and colourful gushy candy... and Santana had eaten ALL of them.
• It was that day that Santana found out that a Humans biggest flaw was that too much sugar made them sick.
• Good luck with enjoying getting your body back when the time comes as you now suspected you would spend your time kneeled over a bucket with a hot water bottle instead of celebrating...

(I have not read this comic) Is this true? (if so, ivy deserves someone better).
Post
Kay, first off both of those people are Jarley shippers so take everything they say with a grain of salt and then some, cause no. that part isn't about how much Harley loves Joker and will always choose him over Ivy. Literally you can tell ops don't know what they're talking about cause her whole thing in those issues is going to kill him for years of graphic abuse but ultimately falls back with him once she’s face to face with him.
Like wow, congrats on missing the fucking point again but not surprised from people who ship her with The Fucking Joker.
Tumblr media
also, ffs, can anyone please have basic comprehension skills and realize that Harley and Ivy are both fucked up sometimes because they’ve got issues and that’s not comparable to Joker’s long ass history of graphic and disgusting abuse.
Harley and Ivy are villains, they're not a wholesome cookie cutter, White Picket Fence, super vanilla ship with no bad moments. They're both bad guys with a fuck ton of trauma that they both have to work through, and have done so at this point.
Gotham City Sirens was published between 2009 - 2011, Harley and Ivy weren't blatantly romantic at this point nor had they had anywhere near the development that they’ve had at this point.
Like don’t go into Harlivy content expecting them to be the perfect wlw rep with no flaws during their arcs from BTAS to current time cause that’s just not realistic. They’re both deeply flawed people who’ve got a fuck ton of trauma that they need to (and have) worked through.
I have talked about the BTAS issues here and this post is good at explaining them too.
X
X
Harlivy is not and has never been a purely wholesome, goody-goody ship. They’re messy, they have issues, and they have bad moments sometimes, but they both worked through their seperate trauma and came out stronger and better because at the end of the day, they care about each other.
Harlivy has messy, toxic moments sometimes, but they’re not, and have never been, abusive. There’s a difference between unhealthy moments and a ship being abusive.
That’s completely different to how Joker acts Constantly, because he does not care that his actions towards Harley are abusive, because he doesn’t give a shit about her.
He enjoys hurting her. He enjoys ruining her.
Jarley has always been intended to be written and shown as a domestically abusive relationship.
This is also the first instance where it's directly referenced that there's something more than platonic between her and Ivy, other than the reference in Batgirl Adventures.
Gotham City Sirens is also not connected to any verses.
This didn’t happen in the timeline we’re in rn with Harley Quinn (2014)/(2016)/(2021).
Comic timelines and shit are stupid and make everything more confusing and awful and I hate it sdfjdksksdkjsd
-
this is gonna be a long post since ops wanna just cut and paste random bits of the issues like jarley stans always do (cause jarley never has good moments that aren’t entirely surrounded by him abusing her) I’m going to show them in full context. *added a keep reading cause it is a lot
(All panels shown are from #15, #18, #19, #20, #21, #23, #24, #25)
So, Harley's entire thing at this point in the GCS comic in that she's been triggered by flashbacks of Joker's abuse and she breaks into Arkham with the intent to kill him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The entire thing in these issues is showing her smarts and how she knows people's trump cards to get under their skin so she can break into Arkham.
She’s trained to identify these things in people and she's fucking good at pushing people's buttons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is also just one of my fav Harley covers so I wanted to show it jsdjksdks
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Trump cards. Everyone has one. Places where the armor we build around ourselves is weakest.”
She’s right. And it’s now shown that Harley’s willing to use those below the belt trump cards if she has to.
And frankly, I’d say this is worse than what she says to Ivy. And I’m not surprised she did it. She didn’t want to, she tried to get him to just open the door -
Tumblr media
“Don’t make me do this, Aaron. There are some secrets that should stay hidden. Things you should never learn about your own life.”
but she’s also entirely fueled by rage and the desire to kill Joker. She came here for a reason and she’s not leaving until she’s done it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’m going to kill you. For everything you’ve done to me. All the times you’ve made me feel useless and small. For all the times I will never forget. For all the things I can never forgive. All the memories -”
“Hello, Harley. I’ve missed you.”
“Memories. That’s all I have left. The past is gone and all I have is... memories.
Memories.
Memory.
Gone.
I guess I too have a trump card.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Oh, Ivy. You know exactly what my answer is going to be. But you’re hoping you’re wrong, aren’t you?”
She’s also right about this, they already mentioned this in #18.
Tumblr media
“How did I become the bad guy?”
“You’re the one choosing a man over her girls.”
“Are you kidding me? You would never say that to Harley, and we both know she’d dumb us in a flat second if Joker called her.”
“Hey! That’s not fair-- Actually, that’s probably true.”
“The difference is, she can’t help it. You can. And she’s working on it. You’re not working on it.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Too easy, Ivy. Too easy. I know your weak spots. Now I just need to push.”
This is exactly what she’s been doing since the starting point of this post. She’s still in that mindset and she knows she can’t beat her on a regular battle field. Neither of them can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Like I said-- You beat me in any level playing field. But I don’t fight on those fields.”
Harley’s biggest strength as a villain is her ability to completely mentally stall her opponents and learn their weak spots. She wouldn’t win against the majority of the Big Bads if she didn’t fight on a different field than they are.
so, like yeah, out of context what she says to Ivy seems awful and completely screwed up, and it is, but it’s also built up really well and it’s completely in character for her at this point in her fall during these issues.
Is what she did fucked? absolutely. It’s not painted that it’s not.
Ivy Literally Goes To Kill Her For It.
In the end of this all three of them are recaptured by Catwoman and Batman and that’s where we’re starting off at again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Oh, Harley.
The only human I’ve ever called a friend.
To what lengths will I go? Where are my own limits? She is the Strangler fig. And I am the tree, choking underneath.
Without me, she could never grow.
But without her, I would fall if I grew too tall.”
Tumblr media
“Will she ever stand by herself?
Will she ever be ready?
She is in throes of madness. She sees him, her brain flooding with adrenaline, it makes her excited, nervous, then the feelings start to fade, and she needs more. And more.
She sees it as passion. She sees it as love.
But it’s not. It’s addiction. And she’s relapsing.”
Ivy is well aware of the nature of their relationship. She’s not stupid and she’s been shown already to know that it’s something that takes time. It’s not a one off break up and it’s over. That’s not how abusve relationships work.
Tumblr media
What do I do?
I could use my pheromones to alter her brain chemistry.
I could leave her behind abandoning her to the wilds of her own mind.
I could kill her right now.
Show her how red Nature can be.
There's one other option.
Tumblr media
It would require patience.
Even love.
Maybe I'm more human than I want to admit.
Tumblr media
"You have one chance to answer this."
I know, if she agrees, she'll be doing it for revenge. For him.
"She put us behind bars."
But maybe if I get away from this place, if I give her something else to think about. Maybe she can break the cycle. But it has to be her choice.
"I'm going to kill her. Come with me."
So yeah, it’s definitely not a just “Harley hurts her and runs off with Joker and it’s just a plain ol’ her choosing him over everyone and that’s that.”
Jarley shippers love to just reduce all her scenes and arcs down to their “epic love” and shit, but that’s taking away literally everything about her and reducing it down to the 3 panels that they’re “cute” in. Her arc in this part is fucking heartbreaking to read.
And Ivy damn well knows what’s going on with her. She’s smart and she’s the one that’s been there throughout all of this. She found her in the park after he shot her out of a rocket.
And she knows it’ll take time for Harley to get over and through his manipulation, that’s just how it works with abusive relationships.
But she’s also not forgiving at first, she’s mad and rightfully so, until she sees the sate of Harley’s cell and realizes how bad her addiction is at that time.
A lot of the unhealthy moments on Harley’s side when it comes to them are directly caused from the effects of being in an abusive relationship with Joker. Because she’s always in this area of her journey in those moments. She’s never fully over him or emancipated.
And that’s realistic. It’s hard sometimes to be friends with someone who’s in abusive relationships like theirs, having to watch them return to that person time and time again and it’s frustrating after a while.
I know from personal experience, it’s really hard to watch someone you care about go back or forgive someone that continues to hurt them.
But abuse victims desperately need a support system outside of their abuser. It’s a crucial part of being able to escape, because when they do try to get out they need someone there or they’ll literally have no where to go but back into their abuser’s arms.
It’s heartbreaking and it’s really rough for everyone effected, but that’s just how it is most of the time. Especially in their case, as they’re not just regular folk dealing with this.
If she doesn’t have Ivy, Harley has no one else to go to but Joker, on more than just an emotional level.
She’s lost her job. Her income. Her home. Her livelihood. Her everything.
Most of the time she has no other choice but to return to a life of crime after she’s released from Arkham because she can’t get a job, she’s a notorious criminal and she’s got a lot of issues that don’t just disappear with a bit of therapy.
She has no other choice but to return to Joker because the other alternative is the streets. At least she knows what to expect with him.
And that’s not even getting into the manipulation, gaslighting and degrading abuse that he drills into her constantly.
He’s made her believe she’s not anything without him. That she’s not smart or useful or anything.
And that’s why it’s so damn important for her to have a support system and why he’s so damn against Ivy.
Because Ivy is the good voice on her shoulder telling her he’s wrong and that she doesn’t deserve that.
-
And on Ivy’s side, she’s aware she gets very near cutting off all parts of her humanity.
She’s a plant goddess, she’s insanely powerful and she feels everything through the green. Frankly, she’s not even on the same playing field as these villains. She’s significanty more powerful than Harley and Joker.
Her connection to Harley is what keeps her humanity in tack, because despite everything, she does care about her. She was the first person she let in, the first person Ivy called a friend.
The person that was able to get through to her in #14/#15 when she was losing herself. The one that was able to get through to her that the dude was manipulating her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Ivy, I know you think you love this guy... but you’re just gonna end up strapped to his rocket!”
She had to knock her out for the dude to trust her / not attack them anymore. But Harley got through to her by mentioning how they first met in the park when she saved her after Joker shot her off in a rocket.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Ivy is understandable turned off towards humans considering her origin and trauma around that.
She’s got a lot of trust issues.
But both of them work through their seperate traumas over the years because their affection for each other is stronger than the issues their trauma has given them.
-
and also, sometimes, they just have shit writers. that’s an issue overall in comic fandoms. Some writers just fucking suck at getting any of the characters right, let alone LGBT characters, who’re notoriously treated like garbage by DC.
