I came up with a Starpollo AU fic idea the other day and I would die to see it written. I don't know if I could write it myself or not as I don't have much knowledge on law stuff, etc. but I feel like this would fit them quite well, at least Lee.
But basically an AU where the attack on the Colonies doesn't happen and Lee is working as a lawyer. Kara ends up being his secretary. She is pretty decent at her job, she just always likes to try and make it more fun, not just for herself, but for whoever she's working for too. When she has an immediate attraction to Lee, all hell and tension breaks loose, especially when Lee can't deny he has an attraction to her as well. And especially not when he gets to know her more past her playful and flirty facade and ends up falling in love. Everything in his mind tells him that engaging in any sort of physical relationship with her is against protocol/not right, but he's so enamoured it's hard for him to give a frak and tell her no.
(Also for this idea he and her could know each other prior to her becoming his secretary or not. Their jobs could be when they first meet or if y'all want more drama/tension they could have met beforehand like how they had in canon and this story takes place after Zak's death. And obviously depending which route you go their interactions, attraction, etc. would vary).
I absolutely love this idea and think it could be super fun to write/plot and I personally would love to but again I don't have a lot of knowledge on lawyers and secretaries and what they do, etc. Of course I know general/brief knowledge but not enough to write them doing their jobs, etc. So I feel taking up this fic may be better suited for someone who has some good knowledge on those things as then it'll be more accurate. But if anyone is interested in writing this please let me know because I'd love to at least help with some scene/plot ideas!! I think it could be fun to potentially co-write this with someone! I think it could be neat if someone with knowledge wrote scenes taking place at their work, etc. while I could write scenes that take place outside of it/that don't involve their jobs (not necessarily ofc, just a suggestion). If anyone is interested please let me know!!!

This month was a @gallacrafts based on a one-shot. No surprise, I picked a space themed fic.
I give you a Flirty Pilot Ian and Mechanic Mickey from @the-rat-wins / the_rat_wins space AU Flyboy and the Gearhead! I had read this for the first time in Dec and loved it so much. I had saved its as Gallavich meets Battlestar Galactica, which also inspired me to include my BSG model as Ian's ship.

I’ve ranted in the comments a LOT about the various sci fi property influences I brought into Star by Star, but if you asked me what the number one inspiration is, I’ll say it a million more times: Battlestar Galactica! Everything from the chain of command being decimated to Yaz being a jackass pilot to Theo’s spine glowing blue to the countdown chapter near the end are all influenced by bsg (so sue me, I was loosely involved in that fandom back in the livejournal days, it had a HUGE influence on me).
7. Any worldbuilding you’re particularly proud of?
Oh, let’s see, there are a lot of little details from A Dark & Verdant Door I’m proud of: stuff like the little hints of old civilizations around Sheffield, the eerie feel of the forest that sort of evolves a childlike sentience over the course of the story, the almost-but-not-quite Earth-like creatures like the deer that live in the forest… there were so many small, juicy bits I got to throw into that story, and I like to think it still came off as fairly cohesive!
15. What’s your favorite AU that you’ve written?
Oh that’s such a hard question! They all contain so many of the things I love! I still really love the slightly-left-of-canon An old police box, a tattered coat, and the constable who called herself the Doctor, which I think of as my twisted Snow White AU. It was a ton of fun to write, and very different for me, and I still think about what those versions of Yaz and the Doctor might have gone off to do next.

Coming Attractions!
I missed last month due to a Variety of IRL shenanigans (some work-related, some car-related), but it is the first Monday of a new month, so here we are!
I do want to make a quick plug for Galactica Big Bang, which I will be running in the second half of this year. Signups will open in July, and there’ll be more details on that in the not-too-distant future. I have set up an event Discord (which can also be a place for other BSG fans/creatives to hang out as far as I’m concerned), so please feel free to check it out!
And, as usual, I’ll go ahead and do an open question night. My askbox is always open, but I’ll be keeping an eye on it to answer questions tonight. Anything I’ve posted about here on tumblr or on AO3 is fair game. I do accept prompts, but no promises on when I’ll actually get around to filling them (I think I still have some floating around either here or on Dreamwidth that are over a year old, oops...)
Star Wars:
I ended up dropping out of SWBB as a writer--mostly due to the aforementioned IRL stuff, I ended up falling way further behind than I wanted to be. I might have been able to catch up, but it was just. Yeah. Anyway, I am still participating as a beta/mod/offering podfic for the first time, so that should be fun! (I really do love this event, I’ve been doing it for...this is either my fifth or sixth year, lol. So dropping out was Not Easy, but it was the right call to make so...yeah, there it is.)
I am going to hold on to what I did get written/that concept (which is--Anakin never ended up in the Jedi Order; he and Ahsoka run into each other about halfway through the Clone War and team up for an Adventure) for next year, unless I come up with something I like more in the intervening time. Or I might just finish it outside any event if I really get Inspired, but we’ll see.
I swear I haven’t abandoned Precipice. I know I keep saying that and not actually getting any updates out, but...you know, that fic/AU is important to me and I refuse to let it die, so I want to get it updated At Some Point. That being said, I’ve gotten...like...three separate comments on fics for entirely unrelated fandoms asking me to update it??? Which. Not Cool. Not really getting me enthused for working on it. Why do people do that. (in one case, it was for a project with a co-creator; and in another, that was the only comment i got on the fic in question so i’m. pretty mad about it, lol.)
Let’s see, what else is actively going on here...Obianidala has been one of my ships for the Year of the OTP project. It’s been fun; I’m particularly proud of what I wrote for them in March.
...yeah, I think that’s it for this fandom. There’s other stuff drifting around in the back of my head, as is pretty much always the case, but nothing I’m working on in any concrete sense. our faces like a mirror is definitely still there, for example, especially since Bo-Katan has been in the news lately; crossovers (BSG or going back to Jedi of Valdemar) are always fun...but nothing I’m actively planning to do Actual Work on at the moment.
BSG:
Well, there’s Galactica Big Bang coming up XD I don’t know if I’ll write for it since Running the event will already be a lot; especially since I’m going to offer to pitch in with podfic and/or fanmixes (if I decide to count those as art) if we have enough of a mismatch in terms of numbers there. But a few things have been floating around as possibilities in my head if I do decide to participate--maybe doing something with the Selkie AU I posted for February for the Year of the OTP; maybe something related to the AU I’m going to poke at for this month (which is something I’ve been really looking forward to since I decided to do this event). I’ve also been thinking a lot about Zarek lately; might be interesting to write about him (either the events leading to his original arrest; maybe in parallel with the mutiny and/or his arrest on New Caprica?) Anyway, I’ll see how things go/how many people sign up and what might be feasible.
(I mean, I do at Some point want to get back to the Selkie AU and what I’ve nicknamed the Backup Plans AU at some point, so those will probably pop up again eventually whether or not I write them out for an Event.)
I am also working on The Other Battlestar. Last time I did one of these, I did a brief blurb on some OCs that will be involved for Plot Reasons. I’m...genuinely not sure when I’ll start posting but at This point, my goal is to do that before signups for GBB open in July, so, wish me luck XD
(Seriously, though, is there an actual convention for tagging a Cylon OC who uses their model’s base/shared name?)
Again, crossovers/etc. pretty continuously percolate in the back of my head, but none I’m actively planning to write down. ...not yet, anyway. So those are the main things I’m working at now.
Original Fic:
Well, again, Year of the OTP has me doing three ships from my original stuff, too. I’m glad I decided to do that; it’s gotten me to get more actual text down for my original stuff, and since one of the three couples I’m using I haven’t done much with, it’s a good way to explore the two of them.
Castlevania:
Incinctus is another one I swear isn’t dead, really. I haven’t quite gotten past the wall I hit with the next chapter...maybe if/when I rewatch the series (at some point before Nocturne actually comes out), I’ll get back to it?
AtLA:
My roommate has been rewatching the series again, and since it is my other other forever fandom, that’s brought some of my old fic ideas drifting back to the surface. Not necessarily in an ‘I’m going to actually write this’ kind of way, but also not...really ruling out the possibility? I did have a few I was working on a while ago, but we’ll see how that goes.

💖 What made you start writing? Answered here!
🤩 Who is your favorite character to write? Oh God, I've written a lot of fic for a lot of fandoms - this is hard. Just looking at my AO3 stats I've written Cat Grant and Laura Roslin the most, with Kara Danvers, Sarah Jane Smith, and Catelyn Stark as runners-up, and I have definitely loved writing all of them. Common themes there are prickly but ultimately soft-hearted women that are reluctant to let people get close to them but blossom when they let their walls down, and women who have tremendous responsibility placed upon them without a choice and must navigate that the best they can. They're all characters that grapple with darkness in different ways and all have very, very strong moral centers and priorities, though those don't always equal being good people or doing good things. They're all also characters with an element of "still waters run deep", which is definitely something I love to explore.
I adored writing Laura but it's been nearly ten years since I have! That's special to me because I was 15 when I first started writing her (fifteen years ago next month, insane) and when I look back on BSG fic that I wrote in my teens I'm actually still pretty proud of how it holds up and the grasp I had of Laura's character. I'm getting ready to start a rewatch so I'm really curious to see how I feel about the show and Laura after so many years - what hits me differently, what feels the same, etc. - and I'll be curious to look back on those fics again after that.
Overall, though, I do think if I had to choose just one at this point I'd say Cat - both because she's the one that I've written the most of most recently (new fic dropping this weekend, actually!) and because there's a lot of room to play when writing her. Her voice is a challenge for sure, but Calista played her so specifically that it's really fun and easy to imagine exactly how she'd say something or what expression or movement she might make in a given moment - she's so expressive, which lends well to writing.
Overall writing in the Supergirl universe and for Supercat allows very easily for exploration of pretty much anything, which is nice. Writing something silly and fluffy is very doable without the backdrop of, like, post-apocalyptic genocide survivors on the run or "oh this is a cute moment, what a shame that they'll both be brutally murdered a few years later!", but there's also so much room to explore trauma and hurt/comfort and anger and grief, and there are so many different iterations of the Supercat dynamic that are all great to mine. I also really love exploring AU scenarios but prefer canon-divergent AUs, not entirely separate universes, and Supergirl is a fandom that really inspired me with a ton of "what if?" scenarios.
⛔ Do you have a fic you started, but scrapped? Literally hundreds. Some never actually had a word count but existed - or still exist - fully formed in my head; others are just a few paragraphs, and still others are thousands of words. Some of them I still want to finish, and others I will stumble upon and be like..."this is 6000 words and I have literally no memory of it but damn, I wish that author would update!"
The two that haunt me, though, are two that exist in fragments and outlines and old notebooks and that I was really invested in that just never came together for a number of reasons and that at this point I've accepted that they will live only in my headcanons.
One of them was a Doctor Who AU where at the end of School Reunion, Sarah Jane joined the Doctor and Rose in the TARDIS. It would have explored the relationship dynamics between all three and would have covered most of season two, with Doomsday playing out differently and with a happier ending, though overall the tone was going to be very bittersweet (partly because I envisioned it being mostly if not entirely through Sarah's POV). The biggest themes would have been acceptance - Sarah understanding and accepting why the Doctor left her, and traveling with him again would really hit at those "you can't go home again" vibes; Rose accepting that there's no forever for her and the Doctor, and that she's going to age the way Sarah has and that he'll have to move on when they're both gone; the Doctor coming face to face with his past choices and the consequences thereof and accepting that the pain of knowing he'll lose them doesn't mean that he should just try to run from it. It would have had a pretty open ending with the three of them still traveling together and knowing that it won't last forever, or even for very much longer necessarily, but there being some bittersweet hope in Rose and Sarah knowing that they'll have each other, and that when one or both of them are no longer able or wanting to travel with the Doctor, that doesn't have to mean him flying off and them never seeing him again. And for the Doctor, he's such a bittersweet character anyway, but the idea would have been that he might be more willing to have more lasting relationships with his companions in the future and that that would be a hard but good thing for him.
The other was my version of Cat Grant's backstory. It was framed through "Ten People Cat Grant Has Loved", and each section would have given more pieces to the puzzle (it would have been non-linear). I had a pretty elaborate backstory for both of her parents, for her experience and decisions around Adam, her relationship with Lois, and for her first husband/Carter's father. A few of the other people (mostly OCs) that Cat had loved would have been less about the relationship and more about snapshotting where Cat was at that moment in her life. Kara would have obviously been one of them (the second to last - I was going to bookend everyone between Cat's dad and Katherine at the end) but I wasn't ever sure about how explicitly romantic that section was going to get.
I had - and have - a lot of scenes sketched or written and a pretty comprehensive outline, but then season two happened and a) fucked up some of my backstory and b) made me way less excited to work on this. While I've continued to write Supercat, this was going to be quite a labor of love and it just didn't feel like something that was going to be as fun or worthwhile as it might have been if I'd gotten it out back in the joyful heyday of the season one fandom. There was a moment for this, and it passed.

I guess I’m confirming @fyeahmeninroyalnavy’s suggestion that I’m a masochist, because I’m sharing an Archie/Horatio fanvid to “My Immortal”. As you can imagine, it’s a DKU, so watch at your own risk 😅
I started this project months ago, then it got left behind because of lack of time and/or inspiration. I finally got back to it and I had almost finished it when the software decided to crash on me and I lost everything!! I had to start from scratch all over again, and even if it was an editing nightmare, I finally got it done. All of this notwithstanding, I’m quite happy with how it turned out. Hopefully you will enjoy it 😊

Hornblower Fic Rec Post
A conversation with the lovely @fyeahmeninroyalnavy prompted me to do a Hornblower fic rec post. I'm sure we have some recs in common ;)
I should probably point out that these are all Horatio/Archie recs, because those are the only ones I read (with rare exceptions).
Slash Fics (in no particular order):
*I feel I have to start with @paraxdisepink's wonderful saga: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 This is the first H/A series that I read, and it will always have a special place in my heart. The saga starts with Horatio and Archie in El Ferrol and in the end finds them two years after Kingston. And in between, there's the best (at least to me) fix-it fic ever, No Quarter Given, where Archie gets to be the hero and saves the day (and Horatio).
*Nunc Atque Semper is an angsty one-shot by the amazing @bbcphile. First Hornblower fic I've ever read, and what a welcome to the fandom it was! It's a DKU that will break your heart...
*Speaking of fics that will break your heart, if When The Wind is Southerly doesn't make you cry, nothing will. It's a LKU with a (tragic) twist. Worth reading. Multiple times.
*I still don't remember how I stumbled upon this series, but thank God (and the Wayback Machine!) that I did. Laurel and Rose is a LONG series, very porny LOL!, and so engrossing that I didn't want it to end. It spans several years (from El Ferrol onward), and has a very weird LKU twist. If you are a H/A shipper and you can overlook the way Archie is resurrected, you will enjoy it a lot.
Modern AUs
*It goes without saying that the incomparable Harboured and Encompassed by @bbcphile has to be on this list. I'm sure that every Hornblower fan has already read this incredible novel. And if you haven't, do it now!
*Another modern version of Archie and Horatio that I thouroughly enjoyed is this series by esmerelda-t. The other stories in the series are a little difficult to find (you have to follow the "modern AU" tag), but they are worth it. The saga starts with Horatio, Archie (and Simpson, ugh) in high school and takes them into their adult life with lots of twists and turns. A truly enjoyable read.
Non-slash H/A
*Red Sky at Morning is a novel-length fic about Horatio and Archie's friendship, and the lengths that Archie will go to in order to protect his friend. It's truly well done, and even though there are a lot of original characters, they are so well written that you will find yourself caring about them too.
There are so many more that I left out, but I had better stop here before this post turns into a novel itself! LOL!

BSG (Lee/Kara) fic recs post
Tagging my friend @fyeahmeninroyalnavy, who (partly because of me, I suppose) has just started watching BSG.
These are all Lee/Kara recs (obviously!). Even though there are TONS of glorious fics out there, this post is about those that are either AUs, or about seasons 1 and 2, with very few spoilers about the rest of the series. It is not meant to be a comprehensive list of the best LK fics, because I am nowhere near to reading everything that’s available.
So, without further ado...
Long stories:
Undertow - This is a mystery AU that takes place between the past and the present. Kara is a PI, while Lee is.. well, I can’t say anything about Lee, or else I will ruin your enjoyment of the story. Let’s just say that the story is so captivating that when you start reading, you’ll find it difficult to stop, because you HAVE to know what happens next.
The Long Game Series - In this AU, Lee and Kara are the Lee and Kara that we know, but the Cylons didn’t attack, and the story takes place on Caprica. They last saw each other on the day of Zak’s funeral, and ten years later, Lee is in for a surprise.
Academy Pilots - There are many L-K Academy AUs, but this is one of the best. It’s VERY hot, but also very romantic, and takes Lee and Kara from their Academy days to the Fall of the Colonies.
One-shots:
Fear of Falling - This one-shot serves as a companion to Colonial Day and Kobol’s Last Gleaming 1. It’s a nice insight into Kara’s mind, and explains why Kara left the party with Baltar.
Naming Conventions - AU, fluff, Lee/Kara and babies. I’m a sucker for baby stories for L/K, and this one is short, sweet but not excessively sugary.
Lee and Kara, Kara and Lee - This takes place after Home Part 1. Kara opens up to Lee about what happened to her on Caprica… Hotness alert :)

Happy WIP Wednesday, Kayti!! I loved the ask for this week so I wanted to make sure you got the chance to answer it too, if you wanted - what's your dream fic to write, if you had all the time/inspiration/ability in the world?
Awww thanks Kat! I appreciate that!! I think that's the Battlestar Galactica AU I keep coming back to in my head. I'd love to build it out and sort all of the characters into different planets, and decide who is a Cylon secretly, and connect the dots between Shield and the Galactica. Like, several actors from BSG were in AOS, and I would love to have those callbacks to Adama and Gonzales, and Izzy and D'Anna. Two of my favorite shows woven together would be *chef's kiss*, you know?

A Primer/Refresher on Me
Hello! I haven’t been using Tumblr much recently, and I know I picked up some new followers since starting to post Critical Role drabbles. So here’s a little bit of information on me and my primary fandom stuff.
RL Info: She/her/hers, mid-30s, Librarian/Archivist, living in the Mid-Atlantic USA, married, and mom to a beautiful, amazing little girl (born mid-2019).
Fandoms I Write In: Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Person of Interest, Critical Role.
The Critical Role Thing You Might Know Me From: Parallels, where I thought about, er, parallels between C1 and C2 characters that weren’t just comparisons between the same player’s characters. Note that I wrote this relatively early in C2 - aka in the Molly era, where a lot of secrets had yet to be revealed. 
Long-Term Writing Projects: I have a bunch of WIPs, but the ones that I’m most likely to continue are my two Mass Effect Giant Crossovers of Doom.
No More Gallifreys: Mass Effect x Doctor Who (2005). Main characters: Female Shepard and the 11th Doctor. Eleven joins the Normandy mid-ME2; clashes with Shepard at first, makes friends with Mordin and Tali, and learns a surprising truth about himself and his connection to the ME universe.
In retrospect, large-scale crossover was not a great choice for my first foray into fanfic, and I got discouraged for a while - but there was a moment recently where I genuinely wanted to continue, so I ended the 2.5 year gap by resolving one cliffhanger and introducing a far less dramatic one.
Exodus Into Fire: Mass Effect x Battlestar Galactica (2003). Main character: Kara “Starbuck” Thrace; secondary important characters: Female Shepard, William Adama, Sharon “Athena” Agathon, Galen Tyrol, and likely others as the story goes along. The Earth that Starbuck guides Galactica to mid-S4 turns out to be Shepard’s Earth at the beginning of ME3. With Earth not the safe haven they'd hoped for, a multi-species conflict raging around them, and the enemy Cylons still a threat, the Colonial Fleet and their Cylon allies struggle to make a place for themselves in this new universe.
At one point, I’d intended to complete No More Gallifreys before starting this one. Hah. There’s an alternate universe where I had the Mass Effect romance be Male Shepard/Tali instead of Shakarian. Female Shepard was a main character at the start, but Starbuck is now the linchpin. I learned from my previous mistakes and chucked ME canon out the airlock sooner, or kept it offscreen if it wasn’t changed by the presence of BSG characters. I’m determined to fit a crossover romance in there somewhere, besides Starbuck hooking up with Septimus Oraka at Afterlife (why? Because she could).
Fandom Exchanges: After creating an excessive amount of spreadsheets for them, @acequeenking asked me to help moderate the two Bioware Rare Pair exchanges that she started - Spectre Requisitions (Mass Effect) and Black Emporium (Dragon Age). Running these two exchanges has turned me into a serious multi-shipper, and I have fun with both of them every year. 
Doing those two also inspired me to create the Exchange of Interest for Person of Interest. This one’s for any and all POI relationships. I love this show so much - the lore is amazing and incredibly detailed, and it has some seriously badass characters that are easily some of my favorites ever. I’m grateful to @livenudebigfoot for co-running with me and look forward to Year 4 in Spring 2021!
Stand-Alone Works: Because of the aforementioned exchange participation, I’ve written a LOT of stand-alone ‘shippy stories in the past few years. Here’s a highlighted one from each canon.
What kind of woman doesn’t have an axe? (ME) - Female Shepard/Aria, with FemShep being basically an expy of Rosa from Brooklyn 99. Set during the Omega DLC for ME3.

1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?
Involved as in ‘frantically read every book I could get my hands on, daydreamed about being part of that universe and wrote stories/made art inspired by the books, if not actual fanfiction’? Mm, probably The Chronicles of Narnia when I was six or seven. The next great obsession was The Silver Brumby when I went through my horse stage around age 12, and then Sweet Valley High when I was 15. Hahaha.
2. What is your latest fandom?
Marvel! I’m not into comics and I’m definitely not interested in consuming every last bit of canon material or memorising the variations of every universe, but I love (most of) the movies and Agents of SHIELD is pretty cool.
3. What is the best fandom you’ve ever been involved in?
Star Trek Voyager. No contest. I venture to suggest that the older fandoms, the ones that are all about defunct shows, are a hell of a lot more chilled. Maybe because we’ve come to terms with our shitty canon endings and learned that liking the ship you hate doesn’t make someone problematic, unlike some newer fandoms I could name (Yes I’m talking about you, Game of Thrones fans. What the fuck.)
4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?
I’ve dipped a toe into one or two fandoms for shows or books I’ve really enjoyed and backed the fuck out when the vibe gets weird (oh hey, it’s GoT again), but nope. No regrets.
5. Which fandoms have you written fanfiction for?
All the Star Treks except TOS, and a Trek/MCU crossover. I’d like to write more for MCU someday. Plus I’ve written longhand entire notebooks full of teen romance shit that bore an uncanny similarity to SVH, and my first short story was a fantasy fic that featured a girl whose guardian was a wise talking lion who led her into mystical secret worlds, which is kind of familiar.

I’m too tired to do every fandom, and besides, I can come around to almost any ship if the headcanons (or fics) are convincing enough. I do have a few hard no-gos, but they might be someone else’s OTP so I’ll shut up about them.
8. How did you get involved in your latest fandom?
Reluctantly. The MCU movies are not something I ever thought I’d enjoy beyond a dull evening’s entertainment. I never expected to get attached to the characters. And yet.
9. What are the best things about your current fandom?
Voyager is my forever fandom and the only one where I’ve really interacted with other fans. The best things about it? In general, everyone is just cool, accepting, open and basically awesome. And talented. I love my Party Bus people.
10.  Is there a fandom you read fic from but don’t write in?
Sure. The 100, Veronica Mars and Agents of SHIELD are the ones I’d dip into more frequently. I really enjoy crossovers between Trek and BSG or the Stargate variants, too.

84% of my fics feature Janeway x Chakotay as either the primary or secondary pairing... holy shit.

Paris x Torres. I mean, I feel them. I just don’t generally feel the need to write about them.

Chakotay x Seven. In another universe, it could’ve been beautiful.

Actual story that was clearly fanfic? A farcical drunken romp told in the 24th century equivalent of email format called PADDemonium (see what I did there?)
22. Is there anything you regret writing?
Lol, a few things that should probably have never seen the light of day for various reasons, some of them leola related. But I’ve only deleted two fics that I can recall.
23. Name a fic you’ve written that you’re especially fond of & explain why you like it.
Relieved. It’s a 30k AU Chakotay moral dilemma backstory that brings in DS9 characters, Section 31 and his longstanding history with AU Janeway. I did so much research for it (way back in the days before memory alpha and chakoteya.net) and I’m really proud of how I wound in canon stuff across series but changed a few key bits and pieces. Only problem is, it’s a sequel to ...
24. What fic do you desperately need to rewrite or edit?
... Pressure, which I can’t even read without cringing. My characterisation of Janeway, even Angry Maquis AU Janeway, is way over the top and there are moments that verge on Mills and Boon and give me first, second and third hand embarrassment. God, I’d love to rewrite it. Actually, that’s a lie. I want someone else to rewrite it so I can read it without covering my eyes and moaning.
25. What’s your most popular fanfic?
Desperate Measures, by about 70,000 light years, lol. Although Fragile Things beats it on bookmarks.
26. How do you come up with your fanfic titles?
You know what? A fair percentage of the time, I think of the title first and come up with a plot second. Aside from that, I prefer shorter, punchier titles that clearly tie into the story (Flight Risk, Speechless), though sometimes it’s song lyrics (Burn Our Horizons, your body like a searchlight) or a literary quote (Required to Bear, All the Devils are Here) or a turn of phrase from the story itself (The Prisons You Inhabit). Hey that was fun. Thanks for letting me pimp the shit out of my stories.
27. What do you hate more: Coming up with titles or writing summaries?
Ugh, it depends on the day. Summaries are harder, I think. I never want to give away too much of the plot, but there has to be enough there for people to know whether they’ll bother clicking. Funny story: I actually ran the stats on this a few months back. Here they are for your edification:
Fics with a one line plot summary = 54%
With two or three line plot summary = 18%
With a short snippet directly from the fic = 16%
With a snippet + a one line explanation = 3%
With a one line plot summary plus a line to date the fic (eg "set in season 3", “episode tag to Worst Case Scenario") or the fic prompt = 7%
And finally, a quote from something other than the fic = 2% (that's only 3 fics).
28. If someone were to draw a piece of fanart for your story, which story would it be and what would the picture be of?
Ooh. I’ll say the final scene in Explosive.
29. Do you have a beta reader? Why/Why not?
I used to regularly ask @jhelenoftrek​ and @littleobsessions90 to beta for me, and both of them are brilliant at it. Lately I’ve been posting without sending my stuff off for editing. This is partly because I’m impatient to get stuff out there, partly because I don’t have as much time to write/edit, and partly because I’m a little less focused on improving my writing and more on enjoying it for its own sake.
30. What inspires you to write?
Little bits of episode dialogue I haven’t noticed before, other people’s fanfiction, stray conversations, fic prompts, song lyrics, random headcanons, fever dreams, dares ...
31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?
I’ve been really lucky with comments on my fic. The least helpful comment I’ve ever received was on one of my early 30k fics and all it said was “Did you have to take the name of the lord in vain?” Which is kind of funny. The nicest thing anyone’s ever said? I’m very partial to the feedback that starts “I don’t even like this pairing/genre/trope/show but you made me love it”, and particularly “I’ll read anything you write, I don’t care what it’s about.” But all comments are gold. The little heart button is cool too.
32. Do you listen to music when you write or does music inspire you? If so, which band or genre of music does it for you?
I’m not someone who can tune out music I love, or leave it in the background to inspire me. If it’s on, I’m fully invested in it. I’m that annoying person in the car who flips radio stations every three seconds until I find something I like and then it’s on 11 and I’m singing along to it. I’m also really picky but extremely eclectic, although there are genres I can’t stand (anything with autotune makes me stabby). That said, sometimes I find a song that I can’t stop listening to for weeks and often that perfect combination of music and lyrics will inspire me to write a fic. For example, I just plotted out an entire J/C story because of this song.
33. Do you write oneshots, multi-chapter fics or huuuuuge epics?
All of the above. Although I’m not sure if my longest epic is huuuuuge or just huuuge.
34. What’s the word count on your longest fic?
101,467.
35. Do you write drabbles? If so, what do you normally write them about?
I have two drabble collections. One is all J/C, full of responses to random prompts and I add to it sporadically. The other is episode additions set on Kathryn Janeway’s birthday (May 20) and added to annually.
36. What’s your favourite genre to write?
Angst, definitely. Sometimes it’s smutty angst or fluffy angst or hurt/comfort angst, but often it’s just fucking unrelenting angst. And I’m okay with that.
37. First person or third person - what do you write in and why?
I did the stats on this once, too, haha. Pretty sure I came out fairly even on first and third person with a smattering of second person in there. I’m probably even-ish on present vs past tense, too. I make it a point to mix it up to avoid my writing getting stale or same-y. And sometimes a fic doesn’t really click for me until I try it in a different POV or tense or from a different character’s perspective.
38. Do you use established canon characters or do you create OCs?
I mostly write for canon characters - the fun is in all the different ways you can interpret and imagine them - but I’ve been known to throw in the odd OC, or focus on a character who only got a brief cameo appearance, or write about someone who only appears in beta canon, or who only rates a mention on screen.
39. What is your greatest strength as a writer?
Oh, wow. I’m not sure. I guess the thing I value most about my own writing is my willingness to try different styles, characters, pairings and so on. The thing I strive for most is characterisation that feels true, and I really love it when I get comments on that. Exploring a character in a way that rings true with a reader is the best thing ever.
40. What do you struggle the most with in your writing?
Overly long sentences and adverb abuse, haha. No, truthfully, there comes a point in most of my fics, particularly the longer ones, when I really just want to scrap it because in my heart I know it’s dreadful. Usually that passes once I slog through the ‘I don’t wanna’ stage because I’m a bloody-minded bitch, but sometimes fics do get left in the dust half-written. Honestly, though, they’re the ones that probably should stay there.

All of the authors above for various reasons, but also august because her writing is so spare and delicate and devastating, and runawaymetaphor because she writes the most delicious Janeway/Paris, and @seperis​ because I read In the Space of Seven Days literally 20 years ago and I still haven’t recovered, and I could be here all night raving on this topic but there are still many questions to get through.
44. What ship do you feel needs more attention?
Janeway x Paris. I’m so happy there’s been a little bit of a resurgence in J/P fics lately. Thanks, @curator-on-ao3​, you’re doing the lord’s work.
I’ll also take Janeway x Johnson content any day of the week.
45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?
What the hell? I can’t pick just one! Ugh!
... but okay, here’s the first one that came to mind when I tried to think about this: if you came this way by tree. I’m not sure I’d call it my favourite, but it’s one I revisit often. Ugh, there are so many other fics I’m thinking of now that I really want to list.
46. If someone was to read one of your fanfics, which fic would you recommend to them and why?
Oh, that’s hard. I should probably pick an angsty smutty J/C because that’s a fair proportion of what I write and it’s good to let a new reader know what they can expect. But honestly, I think the best fic I’ve written is The Uncharted Sea. (It’s safe for work. Maybe not for makeup.)
47. Archive Of Our Own, Fanfiction.net or Tumblr - where do you prefer to post and why?
The Archive, of course. Where else can I find ad-free hosting on a stunningly user-friendly interface with absolutely no moralising content restrictions and the world’s best tagging system? That Hugo award is well deserved.
Tumblr is good for headcanons and meta and gifsets and a few other formats that I’m less likely to post on AO3 because I’d feel like I was pissing off people who subscribe to me by giving them some random garbage.
I also have my own website, but I’m not really sure why. Sometimes I post fic there that doesn’t make it to tumblr or AO3.
48. Do you leave reviews when you read fanfiction? Why/Why not?
I try to. Honestly I do. I love it when I get reviews, so I figure paying it forward is the least I can do. I’m less scrupulous about leaving comments when I’m busy or reading on my phone.
49. Do you care if people comment/reblog your writing? Why/why not?
I mean, I love it when people reblog, but I certainly don’t expect it. @arcadia1995​ is amazing for reblogging stuff *blows kisses*
Nobody owes fanfic writers shit, but I feel like there’s a tacit agreement that if you like what you just read for free and you’re on a platform that makes it easy to do so, you leave a review or at least a kudos, because I’m not gonna lie, posting a fic you’ve worked super hard on and seeing it get very few kudos or comments is a bit deflating. I’m sure a lot of us have been there.
50. How did you get into reading and/or writing fanfiction?
During Voyager’s original run I was trawling the internet for Endgame spoilers (I don’t know why; I usually love surprises) and I guess I googled (or whatever the 2001 equivalent of googling was) something like “how does voyager get home” and somehow I stumbled across Revisionist History. At first I had no idea what I was reading - was this a lost story pitch that somehow got leaked? A professional novella commissioned by the showrunners?
Then I started following links and discovered yahoo groups and webrings and Trekiverse and fanfiction.net and all sorts of incredible things I’d never guessed at, including the now defunct ‘archipelago of angst’, a collection of Voyager writers who focused mainly on a darker Janeway than most of the other fic writers I was encountering, and I was hooked. So I wrote a few of my own pieces, and then I lost interest for 15 years. I’m still not sure how I got dragged back in.
51. Rant or Gush about one thing you love or hate in the world of fanfiction! Go!
Honestly, in what other way can I indulge my obsessions, hone my skills and talk about it endlessly with like-minded people? Where else can I instantly find a plethora of fiction about the exact topic I feel like reading about on my mobile device and for free? Fanfiction is fucking amazing and I’m so glad it exists in my life.

what happened to your fic?
It is up and I'm still working on Chapter 2. I've been experiencing mental and autoimmune related health problems for the past few months (I do not recommend getting an autoimmune disease, it's basically a -25 modifier on all actions) that have been eating a lot of my energy and attention. So I haven't been able to work on it as often as I'd like. However it is always on my mind and I'm hoping to get chapter 2 uploaded before the end of September.

Yes! This is one of the few titles I'm very proud of as I feel it sums it up very well.
It's an AU I started writing based off a prompt I saw here on Tumblr one day that was: "Sometimes guardian angels don't always have a lovely singing voice and a set of fluffy wings, sometimes they have a deep frown on their face and a very bad attitude." Credit: @creativepromptsforwriting
So I took that as my inspo and just changed the second half: "Sometimes guardian angels don't always have a beautiful singing voice and a set of fluffy wings, sometimes they have a bad attitude and sad secrets."
That was the case for Lee Adama and his guardian angel Starbuck.

It's a modern AU and reincarnation AU, also a soulmate AU if you really wanna get into it
Basically the main idea is this takes place like thousands of years after the end of Battlestar and Lee has been reincarnated. But Kara has not, she's still existing as an angel like she was at the end of the show. God or whatever higher being in charge of the angels gives her the task to be Lee's guardian angel and she is initially upset by that as she's still super hung up over him (her having not had the chance to reincarnate and have another chance at being with him yet has also left her kinda bitter) but she agrees anyway.
Being an angel that helps guide a human there are certain rules she needs to follow (like limited visits/only when he truly needs her help, not much physical contact, etc). but she tries to bend and break them, her feelings for Lee not helping her to take her job as seriously as she should and her personal feelings getting in the way (all the while Lee is oblivious as he doesn't have any recollection of his past life that had her in it).
God eventually gets to a point where he has had enough of her breaking the rules and he gives her the choice to choose between continuing to do so and not having the chance to reincarnate again for a very very very long time/to basically be stuck as only an angel or to actually follow the rules and finally get reincarnated within the next 500 years. All the while Lee has to try and figure out why his guardian angel is so damn familiar and why he cannot stop thinking about her no matter how hard he tries to distract himself.
Sorry if I went way too into explaining it I am very passionate about this wip because it's an excellent balance of humor and hurt and it's been very fun to write so far!

What's the craziest fic idea you've ever had? (writen or not)
Okay. 
The two craziest stories I’ve ever written are a BSG fic where Adama and Cavil were roommates, someone had a cat, and Roslin was their cleaning lady. It is the very definition of crack. Then there’s my NCIS fic which draws inspiration from Nightmare, Inception, and Rose Red: "Jenny is kidnapped and tortured, forced into a nightmare world that only Jethro can rescue her from.”
For JB, I have two rather out there ideas. The first is an 80s Vampire AU, drawing lots of inspiration from The Lost Boys. The second is an adult movie AU, where Brienne and Jaime film a racy (supposed to be avant-garde) scene in a medieval bath tub.

I’m Athena, and I got tired of creating things for myself and friends and decided to make this sideblog to share. I have been an avid consumer of “character x reader” fics for a while now, and started getting ideas of my own and thought “why not?”. Plus I felt a certain lack of sapphic fics, so I’m gonna try and focus on that for a bit :) I’ll be taking requests for imagines, one shots, maybe I’ll even get inspired to write something bigger!

-haven’t written nsfw in a long time so that’s a maybe
-I’ve been on a top gun, star trek, battlestar galactica kick so that’s what I’m more comfortable writing for rn. and vikings. I’m always on a vikings mood when it comes to fics.
