Hates Me. specifically. it’s unclear why (my theory is that the anesthesia from her spaying rewired her brain, since she liked me fine before that) but she definitely actively dislikes me.

Sunrise on the Reaping theories + thoughts so far (pt 1)

here's a collection of the most likely and most interesting head-canons and stuff I've seen, both fandom-made and my own

NOT MINE BUT EXPANDED & CONNECTED BY ME:

• Tigress pov, as an audience member, maybe she's Haymitch's designer

• we got a tribute pov, a mentor pov, now we could get an audience pov because of the themes of propaganda she emphasizes... we could also get multi pov if she wants to do smth crazy and appease all fans

• Unreliable narrator, perhaps screwing with the reader's head on what actually happened in the games, capitol editing footage out

• Perhaps Tigress observes the games and originally starts off oblivious to the truth but the more she watches and helps Haymitch the more she begins to see the truth, and so the capitol punishes both her and Haymitch for it

• Lucy Gray is midnight, Haymitch/Maysilee is sunrise, Katniss/Peeta is sunset (symbolic of the progression of the games. Lucy Gray wiped out and forgotten, Haymitch the escaped glimmering sliver of change, Katniss the blazing fire and finale)

• Maysilee wore the mockingjay pin in the arena but the capitol edited it out of all the footage

• Themes of light vs dark, truth vs lies, the audience starts out unaware and conflicted but comes to see how things really are

• Katniss parents could appear??? Maybe we'll see Mr. and Mrs. Everdeen fall in love??

MY THEORIES + THOUGHTS:

• (canon) The arena is an illusion. Flowers, water, fruit, mountains, animals. It's beautiful, heavenly, too good to be true, it doesn't seem real... well, it's not real. Everything seems normal and like you know what it is, but the Entire Setting is actually poisonous and deadly. JUST like the theme of propaganda and lies, she says the book is about. The arena itself is a meta layer to things not being as they appear.

• the cover will have a mockingjay and a sunrise or sun-flare, gold against purple

• the "sunrise" in the title is symbolism, for a person and a theme, likely symbolic of Maysilee Donner because of her kindness and humanity and spirit casting light in the face of violence and war (the reaping). A light the capitol would've snuffed out, to hide the truth. (I have a whole essay on this + maysilee's importance pls check my feed)

• Maysilee is the real mockingjay, and very important, not just a random dead background character who passed down the pin to Katniss. We know how Collins' brain works. Look at TBOSAS. Look at how she foreshadowed Lucy Gray as early as the first book. 

• the mockingjay isn't just one person, but a symbol of resistance and goodness and freedom, that anyone can take on as a mantle, an idea rather than tied to one thing or person. Lucy Gray, Rue, Katniss, and likely Maysilee.

• a rebellion almost happened with the mockingjay pin and Maysilee and Haymitch and perhaps Tigress seeing the truth last minute, but the capitol snuffed it out and destroyed all the evidence of such a thing ever happening, including Haymitch's family and punishing Tigress, leading Panem and the readers themselves in the dark and at peace. Maysilee is the warm sun to bring the spark of a fire, her pin symbolically passes onto Katniss through her niece, thus passing on the resistance and legacy. ....symbolic of how the mockingjay had the will to survive, even when it was destroyed and wiped out.... It escaped and became stronger in the face of its enemies....

• ...for all we know, Katniss' dad didn't die in a coal mining accident, but perhaps was a rebel himself and the capitol planted explosions in the mines to get rid of him. we can't just blindly trust the narrative.

• If Haysilee is a parallel to Everlark, what if Haymitch's girlfriend is a Gale figure? This isn't just because I'm a haysilee shipper I'm built to be a multishipper I'm FIGHTING not to be biased I'm openminded, but i feel the haysilee content in my bones and it's definitely a possibility

• the capitol (and Snow) believes that humanity is vile, that humans will always give into instinct and fend for themselves, that you can't trust or love or anyone lest it lead to your downfall. So... If Ballad was about humanity's corruption, perhaps Reaping is about humanity's goodness (the bond between Haymitch and Maysilee, Tigress seeing the truth despite being a capitol/audience member, perhaps the Capitol cut the footage of that bond to prevent a rebellion like Everlark's relationship later induces) 

• Most people are saying this book will be super depressing and focused on the capitol's propaganda succeeding to stop a rebellion, and I do agree, but, that doesn't cancel out highlighting themes of goodness and friendship but rather enhances them. Perhaps that very thing is what we're missing from the footage, what the capitol succeeded in covering up, raw humanity being the thing that defies their propaganda the most, and punished anyone who acted otherwise (Haymitch, Tigress...)

(suprise) and they have this like moment where it felt like they were the only ppl in the world, THEY ALMOST KISS but she wakes up, then she transfers to the same school as the boys and Bella Swan wannabe, then she becomes friends with the boys and sooha is already hating her ass bcus she doesn't like another girl being the group, but with niki she feels familiar with him but she doesn't know why(ik the dream but like the catch she doesn't remember his face), they became like sorta bffs like they only hangout alone when it's night time, TIME SKIP YADA YADA, then like sooha is jealous of how much niki and mc are like she is not as close with him as he is with mc then sooha and mc are duelling with swords and like sooha is about to hit her really hard and NIKI JUST COMES IN ALL PROTECTIVE AND SHIT JSBSKQBEJDIDNDDIWJ ITS MAKING ME BLUSH then he says something to her, the drags mc away checks up on her and mc is just looking at him fondly like he hung the stars himself THEN FLUFF HAPPENS THEN THEY LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER

absolutely say no more mate. i didnt get this headache for nothing. the details r fuzzy but im lucky enough to have weirdly vivid dreams. i think this was supposed to be like? the next scene after the hospital one is over? we dont know if its day or night so my brain defaulted to ‘dad puckett took max to the hospital as soon as he got home, meaning this is still the same day as ch5 just at night’.

so isabels out on her own doing a night patrol in her pjs on her bike- except shes less looking for spirits and moreso riding around and thinking about the actions of that day. except because shes so in her head and less looking at where shes going that OOPS she almost hits a guy. with her bike. she stops just in time but when she goes to apologize or yell or smth the panel changes and Oh Hey Its Johnny, Also On A Walk Troubledly Thinking About The Actions Of That Day.

and then they kind of just stare at each other for a moment before sourly going ‘oh. its you.’ and i cant really remember much of what happened after that but its late and theyre both tired and through the combined efforts of their backhanded insults they both accidentally end up letting some genuine+ personal things slip, isabel about the club being tense lately and johnny about seeing shades. which is how isabel accidentally ends up being the first person to know johnnys a spectral and johnny learning isabel’s involved with the whole Lightning Legs OConnor Floating Ed And Max deal. and the scene ended with this mutual feeling of ‘oh shit now we both know more about each other than we intended to and on principle i don’t really like you but i dont think we can call ourselves enemies after this. i know your weird secret and you know mine and i dont know where to go from this point.’

and then i think it moved to isaac but that was my isabel johnny first Real interaction dream and as soon as i woke up it gave me the worst headache ever. zack please make it real

i think in some earlier ramblings, i might haaave touched upon smth like this on my own because god knows i have the Most Specific, Unknown Headcanons known to Humankind (tm).

ig what I liked abt both Leafy and Pin from the canon materials is that their actions had potential to be more gray on the morality compass? Thinking specifically abt Leafy trying to steal Dream Island (which, to my head, registers as "you know what? she can commit crimes"). Also when Pin apparently tries to murk Leafy that other time about it (which, to my very single organism brain, registers as "yknow what, she can also be capable of coldblooded murder").

also enemies to lovers moment. It's not my top tier favorite (I'm kind of soft and like friends to lovers) but it can hit so hard if written well!! i wish i may have included it a bit more, but i'm a little rusty on my BFDI lore (gotta make room for the EXPANSIVE warrior cats lore i contain) so i might have ended up... forgetting that part oops. i'm not too mad about it and i do my best to kind of recreate that friction when the plot calls for it. yes, girlies so deeply in love but they're kind of so stubborn in their ways that when they butt heads, it can be pretty intense.

other tropes? i'd say the way i write Pin is in the sameish vein as that yandere trope/cliche but it's not something I've type out loud. Personally, I think it's too strong of a word but she's somewhere in that... shakes hands at area, ya feel? Also, I kind of want to leave it up to whoever reads my leafpin stuff for interpretation. If anybody thinks she's unhinged enough to be dubbed a yandere, go for it (it tells me I'm writing her right). I still keep her canon traits but maybe dial them up to 12. She's a prideful, egotistical, power-hungry manic that really shouldn't be left in charge of anything and that's the way I like 'em.

Leafy is uh VERY experimental when I write her and I think that's the coolest part of my edition of her in writing. I'm very familiar with stuff like passive aggressiveness which is often meanness coated in sugar and it's the biggest thing I rlly like writing about her. It LOOKS like she cares but, unless ur Pin, she puts her own needs first. Her character in my writings is more about building up social trust to the point where others look at her and say "Oh! Leafy wouldn't EVER do that" when she very well can. It can allow her to do things that can be swept under the rug bc she would be the last suspect. Kinda a wild card and even though she's maybe not as physical as someone like Pin, she can still ruin someone just as easily.

Tbh, I haven't settled on settings, anon. Don't tell anyone 💀

(unclear how young exactly, but he looked between 14-15 if im being generous…? it said it was 3 years ago I think, so that puts him around 18? he looks older than 18 imo adjkf make him more babyfaced…) using a portal? did he build it or did he find it from where his dad mustve come thru it?

-interestingly, he says to his dad something like 'you abandoned me and mom!' …no mention of layra? were they not born yet? are they possibly an adopted refugee from xyz dimension? I say adopted bc 1. layra is clearly traumatized by SOMETHING and I think a War would fucking do that. 2. assuming they hadnt been born yet and his dad stayed in fusion dimension, his mom either got a new partner (and, we havent seen her with anyone else? except. maybe the bodyguard JKDSHKJF hes my other suspect. but then that wouldnt explain why theyre so TRAUMATIZED, either.) …or LEO had a kid with a woman in fusion world and tried to train them as a child soldier and reiji saved his new sibling?? like he was trying to save serena? -ok…so reiji's plan to keep the city from panicking about the other dimensional invaders looking for serena is…to turn the city into a huge duel grounds for a battle royale for the tournament. surely the entire city's population isnt in that stadium/indoors… I GUESS he trusts his lil squad to go duel them all, but we already know all the duelists who are in the tournament will be involved and have to step in since theyre the main characters…why not just?? tell them too?? I feel like theyd all be willing to duel to Save Their City & be able to keep it secret..surprising them with it is a dick move.

i was walking to potions class when someone bumps into me - jihoon. the strong smell of his cologne hanging in the air. god, that smell. jihoon gives me a glare like it was my fault when he was the one who walked into me. "watch where you're going", i mumble. he just looks me up and down and walks off. i hated him so much. okay maybe hate was too strong a word but he was just so annoying at times and i hated that i couldn't stop thinking about all the annoying things he does. the scent of his cologne is still lingering as i walk to class. i enter class and turns out all the seats are taken, and the only empty seat is next to jihoon - ugh. i ball my fists, take a deep breathe and walk towards him, placing my books on the table next to him, taking a seat. he doesn't even spare me a glance.

today's potion class was about amortentia. it's a powerful love potion and it smells different to each person, according to what attracts them. that part always fascinated me, how it smelt different and unique to each person. i wonder how it would smell to me.

the potion is on the table in front of us, the teacher putting us in pairs to test and it out and see what it smelt like. i internally groaned at being paired with jihoon. i glanced at him, only for him to quickly look down. had he just been looking at me? i shake that thought off and watch as the steam rises from the potion in its characteristic spirals.

"you first", he says looking at me. i lean towards his potion, the pearly sheet reflecting off the glass. i take a deep breath and smell it. it smells like books and citrus and...that smell. the smell that bumped into me this morning - jihoon's cologne . and at this discovery, my eyes find him and he's looking at me with the slightest tilt of his head like he's wondering what i might be smelling. why did he somehow look charming today?

jihoon's pov:

i'm looking at y/n as they smell the potion, and after a few moments, her eyes go wide, like she's realized something and her eyes find mine before looking back down. i watch as she hastily grabs her pencil as she writes down something. i wonder what she smelt. '

you might think i don't like her but it's quite the opposite actually. she's cute and charming in a way and whenever i get close to her or bump into her, it's like i don't know what to say or do, hence i just look at her and walk away. and now it's become common knowledge that we're enemies, that we don't like each other, which is not true - at least on my part, because what if she actually doesn't like me?

it's my turn and i take a step toward her and her potion. i take a breath and smell the pearly sheer-looking potion and close my eyes. i smell something spiced, like cinnamon, and strawberries. im surprised strawberries made it on the list since i don't really eat them often. i walk towards my book and note down the scents, wracking my brain wondering why i smelt strawberries. i didn't know how i was attracted to that smell to be honest, how odd.

class is over and we shuffle out, heading for lunch. i sit down when someone takes the seat next to me. it's y/n.

"jihoon", she says, clearing her throat and that's when i see a bowl of strawberries in her plate. of course. that's why i smelt strawberries from the potion - because of y/n. she's always eating them. but then does this mean i was attracted to her? wait...does this mean i like her?

"what did you smell from my potion", y/n asks, mumbling about how she was really curious to know and she looks at me, waiting for an answer.

"um, i smelt cinnamon and strawberries", i say.

"strawberries? interesting", she say, taking one of the strawberries from her bowl and biting in, the sweetness of the fruit wafting into the air. and it's when she chews she realizes the connection, eyes going slightly wide, making me gulp.

"well what did you smell from my potion", i ask, hoping to distract y/n. she swallows before soflty saying she smelt books and citrus.

"what was the third one", i ask, knowing she didn't tell me one.

"what do you mean?", she asks. "you wrote down three smells, i saw you", i say.

"god, you're keeping tabs on me now?", y/n says annoyed and flustered.

"it...it was nothing", she says, not letting up.

"come on, i told you, i won't judge", i add.

it was your stupid cologne okay", she says with her eyes closed, afraid to see my reaction but i only bite my lip as i try not to smile.

she quickly tells me about how she's late for class and speeds walks out of my sight while i'm left there amused by this new information.

Now imagine the enemies inflicting said torture on mc?

Maybe not with them being tortured (but if you do so, I’m not saying no you’re the writer you decide lmfao), but maybe saying some horrible things, starting from gentle loving words to slowly berating and downright shaming them, attacking their deepest insecurities. For days the voice plays while they’re trapped in a room and forced to listen to it, food and water delivered to them from a lil hole and basic things for human necessities but they can only focus on the Voice

Marius Von Hagen:

A soft click echoed in the dead silence of the room, successfully alerting a half-unconscious Marius and forcing him to open his weary eyes. The youth gritted his teeth in agony as he struggled to straighten up, the still-bleeding gashes on his stomach making the simple action a living hell. But Marius didn't pay attention to the blood endlessly dripping to the floor. It was time for 'that' again.

The monitor in front of his eyes flickered open and your now-familiar image, bound and strapped to a chair in a similar position as Marius, came into view. 'Those psycho fuckers-' Marius clenched his jaw tight, as rage and mental weariness started to creep upon him within seconds. He tried to pull himself together and prevent his mind from sinking into despair, but weeks spent in the torture room simply conditioned the young CEO to dread seeing you in that monitor.

At first, Marius screamed. He raged and yelled and threatened to erase his kidnappers from existence if they so touched a hair on you. He tried talking to you, gaining few weak words in response that allowed him to slightly relax. In the few first days, Marius held on to his sanity as he woke up on your gentle tone telling him to “hang on tightly, baby” and that “we will definitely go home soon.”

Even when Marius' skin was burned with cigarettes and his flesh was torn apart as the familiar-looking bastards took their time torturing him, he still kept himself together because you were there for him, whispering “it's going to be alright, it's going to be alright” over and over again in his ears.

Once the first week-mark was reached, Marius started to detect eerie wariness and despair in your tone. Your usual “I love you” turned into curt “please leave me alone” and “I don’t have the energy to talk at you, you’re not worth it anyway.” But Marius didn't mind. He didn't mind if you ignored him and remained silent as he begged you to respond. Marius only crumbled down when you pleaded to him to leave you alone, that “nothing you do will fix things, no amount of money will turn back time.” You blamed him for all that has happened and sarcastically thanked him for ruining your peaceful life.

That is when Marius snapped. His life did no longer matter for him. All he wanted was for them to stop hurting you. He was even ready to offer his onw neck if that made them satisfied enough to leave you alone. But those fuckers were never satisfied. They made you sob and scream and hate Marius even more as they forced him to see and hear it all.

Marius wished for death for the first time in his whole life.

Vyn Richter:

Vyn’s chest rose and fell as he took a few deep breaths. His mouth twisted, fresh blood dripping from his lips, despite his efforts to remain motionless. The woman in the white lab coat turned to glance at him, her beautiful features wriggling quickly into a look of disgust seeing Vyn’s calm face. Eventually, she clicked her tongue and carefully cleaned the tools sitting on the table before exiting the room in a foul mood.

Vyn took another deep breath, his eyes slightly trembling under the harsh light of the room. It was time for ‘that’ again.

Vyn could feel his heartbeat speeding up at the mere sound of the monitor being turned on. He clenched his jaw, mind conjuring up every sound and logical argument he could think of to persuade his own self to keep calm. But the human mind was such a terrible thing, Vyn were aware of that, and his breaths came out quick and short despite his best efforts. Anxiety was slowly settling in. The monitor in front of him hummed once again before a broken murmur echoed in the room; a quiet “I hate you” reached Vyn’s ears for the umptieth time that day.

“Nothing can shake down Dr. Richter!” Vyn remembered your gentle voice and sparkling eyes as you exclaimed a long time ago. That was an undeniably truth. Or at least, was an undeniable truth. From the very first days, Vyn had already formed doubts about the hunched figure strapped to a chair he was viewing in the monitor. Hearing you weakly mumble his name and desperately asking for him to reply had a significant effect on him, but did not manage to make him crumble. The possibility of this all being a mere sadistic game set up by whoever kidnapped him was too high for Vyn to simply lose his calm and allow his heart to be broken by your helpless yells.

Only when your voice, or the voice pretending to be you, told him in a clear and slow manner “I hate you” did Vyn began to feel his sanity slipping away. 

Ever since then, the voice changed. It no longer shouted in pain or howled in anguish. Instead, it began to drip in venom and spout poison. It mocked Vyn and picked at each one of his insecurities like it was nothing. “Did you really believe I loved you?” you, no no the voice, told Vyn one morning. “Did anyone ever tell you how pathetic you are? It’s incredible how low I had to pull my standards down for you,” you whispered in the middle of another night.

At each of your words, Vyn kept his face as neutral as possible, hoping that no one sees that his heart was what was actually bleeding.

Artem Wing: 

“You’ve never been loved, I can tell.” Your voice rang out in the eerie calm of the night; carrying a hint of undisguised hatred. Artem slightly flinched, his chest rising up and down in obvious difficulty, as he turned his gaze away from the monitor. “Is that why you easily believed I cared for you?” a haughty laugh followed your words, making Artem’s hunched figure shiver once again. Few seconds passed as the attorney brought his breathing back into control and clenched his jaw tight. He will not crumble down completely. Not yet.

The kidnappers, the sickest people to ever exist on this planet if Artem had to judge, carefully thought this out. Artem was known for his calm rationale and steel nerves. They were aware that mental torture would not have yielded any results if they didn’t select ‘something’ important enough for Artem to panic.

For the first few days, Artem intensely studied what was supposed to be his lover’s voice and judged it to be fake with certainty. But knowing something and not reacting to it were two completely different things. Artem knew it was a trap. Knew it was all for the purpose of forcing him to break down and to bring him down to his knees. But hearing your voice, dripping with raw hatred, picking at each one of his insecurities and mocking his affection for you proved to be more draining than one could ever imagine.

Secrets he has only ever divulged to you, precious childhood memories, his deepest regrets and pettiest doubts were all dragged into light and exposed. Every word shook Artem’s once stable-core and made him doubt his own judgement. Questions (is it really you? are these her true feelings?) haunted the older man day and night, bringing him to the brink of madness.

And the voice never really stopped. It was always there, waiting, watching and looking out for openings to fully bring Artem to his knees. Physical torture never truly bothered the attorney. He was able to handle it; the pain and the blood. He was able to grit his teeth and bear it all. If only the voice remained silent for one day, then Artem would have been able to collect his wits and remain sane.

But his sole wish never came true. For the voice actually stopped echoing a long time ago. It was just in his head now instead.

Luke Pearce:

“Fucker.” Luke heavily panted as he leaned on the wall. He raised his left hand and harshly wiped the blood dripping down his lips. The laugh that rang out at that second, as if its owner was precisely waiting for Luke to curse her out, made the young agent frown more intensely. “Fuck-” Luke cursed once again.

In fact, it was quite impossible to keep Luke under control for long. Three days were all that took for him to unlock his restraints and escape the gloomy basement he was being kept at. But even as Luke made him way up the complex hallways of the building he was brought to, comfort never really filled his heart. His kidnappers were careful; way too careful in fact. Taking into consideration Luke’s exceptional abilities, they prepared for his escape. Instead of trying and failing, to restrain him, they opted for another alternative. Mental torture.

When he first heard your voice, desperately calling for him for help, Luke froze for an entire minute with his eyes trembling before he finally got back into control. The possibility of his kidnappers faking your voice in order to toy with him was too high for Luke to simply lose his bearings. But slowly, the pain became too harsh to bear. For the simple cry for help was just the beginning of the real torture. 

“You only ever brought me pain and I’m sick of it.” Once the words were uttered, Luke froze in his attempt to destroy the electronic lock on the door in front of him. He heavily swallowed and closed his coral eyes, desperately trying to regain his composure. His hands started to move again, albeit more slowly this time, and the voice did not miss this opening. “We are never going to have a happy ending, just remember that,” you whispered in half-broken words and Luke’s hands stopped once again.

Oh, how much he wished he could escape your voice. But the building’s security proved to be much harder than Luke originally anticipated. Without his proper tools, Luke’s progress through his escape was too slow. Too slow to salivate his sanity.

The voice accompanied him, all day and all night, never growing tired and never really yielding. All it did was scratch at all of Luke’s hidden wounds until they bled, left them alone so they can fester, before picking at them again. Throughout it all, Luke simply took one step forward, gritting his teeth all while not knowing what do you with all of his broken pieces of his heart.

He had to go home to you.

Buuuuut, for those who reached here and still want a happy end, I will let you into a little secret. The voice is not MC’s, in reality. She was not kidnapped nor tortured. After few weeks, she manages to locate her lover (with the extensive help of Darius and Celestine) and successfully rescues them. They do eventually get better with MC’s help and assistance (and lots and lots of therapy, y’all).

Dani raced into the library and sat in front of me. The sound of the doors slamming and her bag loudly rustling caused the other studying students to shush her.

“Party at Christian’s house,” she whispered to me, although we still got a few glares from the surrounding tables. “Tonight. I’m going around 8 to help set up.”

“I have an assignment due Monday, Dani. I can’t go to a party,” I told her.

Dani scoffed. “You have all weekend, and you already know you’re gonna pass. Take one Friday night to let loose and have fun.”

I looked down at my assignment and thought for a moment. “Will...will Mark be there?”

“You know he will be. He lives there.”

“Then no, I’m not going.”

Dani rolled her eyes at me. “You have to get over this stupid feud with Mark. You run with the same friend group, you have to get along eventually.”

“I’ll try when he does.” My outburst earned us more shushing and dirty looks.

Knowing I was too frustrated to continue working, I packed my things into my laptop bag and walked out of the library. Dani quickly followed me out. Once the doors closed behind us, she began talking again.

“Okay, you’re right, I’m sorry,” she said. “I know this is all on Mark. I still don’t get what his problem is.”

“He’s a jerk,” I responded simply. “And a fuckboy, and all those bad words to describe a guy. I don’t match up to his standards or whatever, so he has to put me in my place.”

“But you’re like me, and he seems to like me.”

“But you’re dating his friend. I’m not saying he wouldn’t be nice to you if you weren’t, but by proxy he has to be nice to you or else Christian would beat the shit out of him. She smiled and gave me a hug before racing off for the class I knew she was late for. I laughed and rolled my eyes before going the other direction.

After a lot of internal debates with myself, I decided to go to the party, but only for Dani.

I planned everything out the minute I got out of class: I’d show up early enough that I wasn’t the first person there, but that there weren’t too many people already. Just enough that I could slip in without Mark noticing I was there. I’d stay for an hour or two and hang out with Dani, then I’d go home before it got too crowded, or before the great asshole himself found me.

I got ready at my place and decided to drive myself, so I wouldn’t have an excuse to stay too late and drink. I even parked down the road to make sure I’d be able to leave without being blocked in.

Unfortunately, my timing wasn’t exactly the best as I was the first person to arrive, besides Dani who was still helping set up. The minute I walked through the door, she bounded towards me and hugged me tightly.

“You came!” she said. “I’m so glad!”

“Yeah,” I said, trying not to seem as awkward as I felt. “I decided fuck it. Like you said, we haven’t let loose together in a while. Although, fair warning, I won’t be letting loose too much tonight. I drove myself, and I intend on driving myself home.”

“That’s fine, I’ll pump you full of water after I make you so wasted you can’t walk straight,” she said with a nonchalant shrug. I laughed, although I wasn’t sure if she was completely joking or not.

“You realize you’re supposed to show up fashionably late to parties, not fashionably early, right?”

I cringed at the sound of the voice I wanted to hear the least. I looked past Dani to see Mark standing in the kitchen, putting drinks in a cooler that was set out on the counter.

“Oh wait, I forgot, you have a self curfew. Wouldn’t wanna fall behind on next week’s homework,” he continued.

My body tensed and my grip on Dani’s hands tightened.

“Mark,” Dani snapped.

“What?” he asked. “I’m just saying. I’m sure Miss. Teacher’s Pet can afford to be an actual college student for the night and actually attend a party like a normal person.”

I had to bite back the tears I felt welling up in my eyes. This was why I didn’t like hanging out with the friend group. I really felt like I didn’t belong there, and it was all thanks to Mark.

“Open your mouth one more fucking time, asshole,” Dani hissed. “This may be your house but I will not hesitate to kick your ass to the curb.”

Mark rolled his eyes. “Whatever.”

“Ignore him,” Dani whispered to me. “I’m glad you’re here early. Wanna help set up? Christian wants to do beer pong and the table is down in the basement.”

“Where are you guys gonna put it?” I asked, looking around their cramped living room.

“I don’t know, I told Christian I’d figure it out,” Dani responded, waving away my question. “I just need help bringing it up.”

I shrugged and followed her down to the basement. Like the rest of their place, the boy’s basement was also a mess. It was hard to know where we’d be able to find anything since it looked like everything was just thrown around.

“I’m not shocked,” Dani said upon seeing the state of the basement.

“Neither am I,” I responded. “Do you know roughly where it is?”

“No idea,” she said with a sigh. “I’ll go ask Christian. You look around, give me a second.”

She raced back up the stairs. I looked around the messy basement. I had no desire to dig around in someone else’s mess, but I figured the quicker I found the ping pong table, the quicker I could get out of there.

I heard the door to the basement open again as I was shifting some boxes around. However, instead of Dani, the voice I wanted to hear the least spoke up.

“It’s not over there.”

I spun around to see Mark walking past me towards the wall opposite of the stairs.

“Where’s Dani?” I asked.

“She sent me down to get the ping pong table. She said she wanted to do the last of the stuff upstairs.”

“What else does she have to do?”

“Beats me. I think this is the only thing.”

Mark shoved some stuff aside and pulled the folded pool table from against the wall. I started to approach, but hesitated. “Do you need help with that?”

“No, I got it. Go open the door for me, though. I don’t wanna drop it going up the stairs.”

I quickly bounded up the stairs, excited to get out of that situation. I went to turn the door knob, but found that it wouldn’t budge. “Did you lock the door behind you?”

“What? No. The doorknob locks from the other side.”

“Well, someone locked us down here.”

I heard Mark’s footsteps behind me on the stairs. He reached past me to try and jiggle the doorknob himself. The stairwell was so close that he had to basically be pressed against me. Despite my distain for Mark, I couldn’t help but feel nervous with his closeness. I could smell his cologne, and it made me feel weak in the knees.

When the door knob wouldn’t turn for him, he began beating on the door. “Hey! Guys?! Did someone lock the door?!”

There was no response. My heart began to race, this time in a bad way. I started thinking of the worst, that something had happened to everyone upstairs and Mark and I were going to be locked in the basement until someone came to find us. Who knew how long that would be?

“Is there a window we can climb out?” I asked.

“Don’t be so dramatic, there’s gotta be someone out there to let us out,” Mark responded before banging his hand on the door again and calling out for someone to come open the door.

“I know. I just wanted to know...just in case.”

“Someone will come get us eventually,” Mark repeated. He sat himself down on the stair and looked up at me. “You can sit while we wait. Better than standing.”

He was gesturing to the stair just behind him, which would’ve still had us sitting far too close to one another. Despite my weird feeling from being close to him moments before, I was remembering why I didn’t want to be locked down there with him. I shook my head and pressed my back against the wall.

“Why?” Mark asked.

I wasn’t prepared for the question, so my brain didn’t exactly have a response ready. I stuttered out some nonsense before finally saying, “I-I’d j-just prefer to stand.”

Mark rolled his eyes at me. “Suit yourself.”

It felt like no time was passing as we waited to hear someone outside the door. There was no way to tell how long we had been waiting, and we had both left our phones on the other side of the door. Convenient, huh?

I kept shifting weight between my legs but they were still starting to hurt. I was hoping Dani would finish with setting up soon, or would realize Mark and I had been gone for a long time, and would come to find us. Just thinking about sitting on their comfortable couch was making my legs feel more and more sore by the second.

Noticing my discomfort, Mark grabbed my arm suddenly and yanked me down to sit next to him. I stumbled a little, nearly falling down the stairs, but finally settled onto the stair just behind him. The narrowness of the stairwell caused Mark to brush against my mostly bare legs, which caused my stomach to fill with butterflies.

“Looking at you was making me tired,” he told me. “I don’t understand why you were being so stubborn about sitting down. I’m not gonna bite you or anything.”

“You might,” I muttered to myself.

“I’m not into biting,” Mark responded, smirking at me over his shoulder.

This was new. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Mark was trying to flirt with me.

“I don’t get you,” I blurted before I could stop myself. I could feel my face burning with blush, but I couldn’t take back what I said now.

“What do you mean?” Mark asked, looking at me with a confused look on his face.

“Maybe 10 minutes ago, you were insulting me about being a teacher’s pet and mocking me for showing up so early to the party. Now you’re here giving me a look as if I’m one of those poor girls that you pick up from the clubs every weekend. Can you just decide if you hate me or not and leave it there.”

I was just as shocked by my own outburst as Mark seemed to be.

“I don’t hate you,” he admitted.

“Well, you have a weird way of showing that,” I responded. “You thrive off of making fun of me. I’m pretty sure that’s, like, the definition of not liking someone.”

It looked like he was taking a moment to take in what I had said. Finally, he spoke again. “I guess...I guess I’m not exactly the nicest to you.”

I scoffed. “That’s an understatement. I dread having to hang out with Dani when it means you’re going to be there, too. She had to convince me to come here tonight, and the reason I came so early was to leave just as early so I wouldn’t have to be here with you for so long. The things you say are fucking hurtful, Mark. You make me feel like dirt. Like less than dirt. I don’t understand why you treat me the way you do when I’ve been nothing but nice to you.”

“I know, I know. You’re right,” he said. “Some of the things I’ve said...I’ve taken it way too far. I’m sorry.”

Did Hell just freeze over?

“Did...did you just...?”

“I did. Wanna hear it again? I’m sorry for being such a prick to you, (Y/N),” he repeated. “It’s so wrong of me to act that way, and I’ve taken some of my comments too far. I’m truly sorry.”

I was stunned into silence at this. I couldn’t believe that he was actually apologizing. Never in a million years did I ever think I’d hear the words “I’m sorry” come from Mark’s mouth, and that he’d actually mean them! I was starting to wonder if this was all some sort of elaborate prank he was pulling on me.

“Why do you make fun of me?” I asked. “I’ve tried to be your friend since day one, I don’t think I’ve ever did anything to you.”

Mark looked down at his hands. I could see him trying to work his way through some type of response. Finally, he sighed, sounding defeated, and responded, “Because I like you, and I didn’t think you’d ever like me. So I thought it’d be easier just to push you away than to even try and be friends.”

Well, tonight really is just filled with surprises, huh?

“That’s...a lot to unpack,” I said. “First and foremost, why do you think I wouldn’t like you? You haven’t even given me time to get to know you.”

“You wouldn’t want to get to know me,” he said. “You’re this perfect person in every way. You’re excelling in your classes, you’re so hard working and determined. I’m basically the exact opposite of that. I have zero drive to do school work, I’m just barley passing. I have no idea what I’m doing with my life, but you seem so sure of everything. A girl like you would never fall for a guy like me. And I mean...that fucking stings, but you’re probably better off that way. I’d just hold you back.”

I let his words settle in for a moment. I wasn’t sure what to say. I wasn’t even sure how much I believed him. After so long of Mark mocking me and putting me down, I had a hard time believing anything he had to say.

“What makes you think I wouldn’t try to help you with that stuff?” I finally asked.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean...if you had told me this from the start, we could’ve worked on that together. I could help you with school work, and help you figure out what you wanted to do with your future. Even if it took years to figure that out, I could’ve helped you.”

Mark lifted his head to look at me. “Would...could you...do you have feelings for me, too?”

“I might,” I admitted, “but you have to work to find that out. You’ve been treating me like trash since we met, it’s not exactly the best start to a relationship. So, I propose we start over.” I held my hand out to him. “Hi, I’m (Y/N).”

He smiled at me and shook my head. “I’m Mark.”

“Nice to meet you, Mark.”

His smile was actually really nice. He looked handsome when he wasn’t trying to be a colossal douchebag.

Near seconds after our little make up, we both heard the lock to the basement door turning. We quickly rose to our feet as Dani pulled the door open, trying (and failing) to hide the grin on her face.

“I didn’t realize the door was locked! Sorry guys.”

Dani had always been a bad liar.

Mark and I shared a look before he walked out of the basement before me, completely abandoning the ping pong table, which was why we had gone down there. Dani was smiling brightly at me as I passed her. I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t help but smile back as well.

you had the amazing score, the amazing concepts for plot and characters, the solid solid worldbuilding???

if you just told me about how raya's setting and premise, i'd probably be "wow this movie sound like the whole package"

and then i'll actually watch the movie and have just as much trust issue as raya did :/

A DISNEY MOVIE WITH SEA CULTURE AT ITS HEART AND SOUL

do you know how diverse sea culture is??? VERY

and one thing i was very happy to see was how raya handled it

it was by no means perfect but

the subtle shows of culture in the way the characters acted, and the environment of the movie was just CHEF'S KISS

not only that but the ideas the movie had in terms of its world and the people in it felt genuine, it felt alive

a dragon that isn't the typical fire-breathing lizard

characters who look like they could easily be my neighbours or children i've played with

instead of pandering to this movie felt like an actual homage to sea cultures

and for good reason bc seeing all those familiar names rolling in the credits had me feeling some type of way :")

also that fucking soundtrack gave me chills throughout my watch of the movie

okay now that we've got the things i actually like about the movie, let's talk about what i don't like

if there's one word i could use to describe disney's raya it would be: rushed

like i said in the beginning, all the groundwork for an astounding disney movie were already there

but all of it just goes to waste bc the plot and it's characters feel so Unfinished

the movie felt like a bullet-point presentation of the story

WHICH IS SO FUCKING DISAPPOINTING BC THE CHARACTERS SEEMED SO INTERESTING but all we got were shadows of what they could have been

cardboard cutouts of the archetypes they filled

i'm not asking for a bottomless well of depth, but i at least wanted more for the cast than just: angry misunderstood princess, angry misunderstood princess with an undercut, that one dancing kid from moana but with more spice, boss baby, and the mountain

and i get that they had to sacrifice some of their depth to keep the run time of the movie short but you have got to be better than this disney

i hate to compare but it felt like this movie tried to go beyond what moana gave us, and shot so far that it ended up back to where it started, and then stumbled back a few steps

AND IM NOT EVEN SAYING A DRAGON MOVIE WITH A BIG CAST IS IMPOSSIBLE

maybe this was just me but like, i felt so bad for the friend who watched this movie with me bc all i could go on and on was how the plot felt like it was getting in the way of itself

why didn't the different kingdoms (??) kept the gem in rotation or smth, when did they decide that heart would keep it and then get mad at heart for keeping it????

why didn't awkwafina dragon just show herself to the kingdoms bc everyone seems to be in agreement that dragons good right? that they would be the key to getting rid of the druun right??? SO THEY'D ALL AT LEAST HEAR HER OUT OR SMTH RIGHT????????

and yes raya has trust issues but it seems to only spring up at the most convenient times plot-wise, we didn't really see her learn to trust other people again OTHER THAN THE TIMES WHERE SISU WOULD HAMFISTEDLY SHOVE IT DOWN OUR THROATS THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE GOOD SOMETIMES RAYA

She's a shy girl who likes staying alone most of the time, she'd usually be lost in her thoughts daydreaming about Idia- I MEAN IDEAS (the second thing is true okay) When she's alone she sings too, sometimes she gets too shy to sing in front of a crowd unless she knows she's allowed to be loud. This is why she joined the music club to help with her stage fright while doing what she loves

also, she is not organized... like... please don't look at her gaming desk... or bed... or just her room... unless if she feels that some things are easier if organized that's the only time she'll groan and clean up a little bit

She likes learning random stuff that she'll probably never use but I-I just find it interesting tho-

Very quiet a lot of the time, but ofc trigger smth in her brain by mentioning her interests then you'll get a text as long as this whole thing

She agrees to do a lot of things because she has neutral/idc-that-much feelings about most of them, which is why she's easy to get out of her shell, and she's pretty open to new things. She's easy-going, so she won't mind a sudden change of energy to join in on some chaos she may or may not regret later, she's gotta cure her boredom somehow-

She tends to be very tolerant and understanding even when she's uncomfortable with some people's behavior. Though of course when it gets too much she'll confront them about it with as much tact as she can, completely ready to lose them just so it wouldn't hurt for her if they don't take it so well.

What I mean by this is that she's been embarrassed a lot by not thinking or knowing much about a subject before making anything related to it, statement, idea, etc. So basically assuming things is her worst enemy. She'd learn a lot about it first bc she's interested and to make sure she's at least a little qualified to even have her own opinions or thoughts about it.

So she can't stand it when others just assume things just for the sake of what they think is right or what happened. This is why she's also focused on seeing the other side of a problem/argument.

smh if only she put in just as much effort in class-

also, *picking up a new interest and then getting bored and then finding another one intensifies*

please be patient with her if she suddenly goes from being loud and somewhat energetic to suddenly trying to escape from you- it's not personal- she's just tired.

also okay so like,, I'm not sure if you wanted these headcanons to be like,, "sara was returned to the ship already brainwashed & clearly turned against the other legends" But,,, reading this prompt has sparked,, a bit of a different, more angsty idea (still the same premise, just a bit of a twist on the when). and, well, i'm sucker for angst so,,

-okay so like. bishop altered her when he cloned her. we Know this. he spliced her DNA with an alien's DNA, obviously, but like. also. we know he has the capability (and no moral or ethical objections at all) to alter other stuff, ie he altered his own pain receptors. so like, it begs the question: what else could he have changed? what else could he have altered that sara didn't notice?

-like, okay, let's be real, bishop would have absolutely No qualms about coding sara's brain to make her turn against the legends at any given moment. and sara would have no idea. like,, he could've coded her brain to make her turn on the legends at the snap of his fingers. he clearly has no moral objection to doing so, and with the way the whole thing has been thus far explained, it sounds like a plausible thing that he couldve done

-so, anyway, onto the rest of the headcanons, assuming that this would be the reality: bishop altered sara's brain and 'coded' it to make it so that he could make her turn against the legends at any given moment

-he lures her into a false sense of security, gives her time to start thinking/believing that the only thing he changed was the alien DNA. he lets her get comfortable, being back with her team and especially being back with ava

-he does it in a moment where everyone would least expect it, in a moment where they're all together, hanging out, and all their guards are down for the time being (because. y'know. Of Course he would choose a moment like that)

-it's like,,, they're all having a family dinner or like,,, having a team movie night or smth. one moment sara is laughing and smiling with her team, thinking about how much she loves this and how there's nowhere else she'd rather be, and then the next minute the switch has flipped and she's been turned against her team, and suddenly she's attacking everyone with like,,, full force, not holding back bc why would she if her brain's been turned against them (think like,,, okay so i'm pretty sure it was divergent that i remember this from: without like,, getting into the specifics of divergent, basically sara's brain, i guess, would be altered so that instead of seeing the legends as friends they become the enemies. i mean like,,, obviously,, but i mean like,, okay idk where i'm going with this whole divergent thing but-)

-so anyway, she starts pretty much full-on attacking them out of seemingly nowhere, and no one knows what the hell is going on, but they know this is Definitely Not sara (like,, okay the Know it's Sara but they know it's not necessarily like,,, her,,, in control)

-the more,,, observant,,, legends noticed a split-second before she started attacking that something in her changed, first by the look in her eyes, and then immediately after how she went from laughing and smiling with the rest of the team to just,,, like,, nothing at all, and a second after that is when she started attacking

-now like,,, anyone on the ship who was there during the whole death totem thing would know like,,, sara when she's not in her own head and not in control of her body,,, is Very dangerous and could be very lethal if they're not careful, so,,, they mostly take an,,, avoid and tactical retreat type of strategy rather than like,,, offensive/defensive type thing (because they know how that turned out last time and they know that they'd most likely lose)

-none of them really know what to do because none of them are really sure if this is something that can be fixed, they don't know if there's any way that they can get sara back to normal,,, and that Hurts them, because they all love her and they really don't wanna think about what would happen if this couldnt be reversed (and also like,,, the fact that they would have just somewhat-recently gotten her back from outer space it's just like,,, it's a lot)

-eventually (and it was,,, Not easy) they get her to the brig or w/e it's called now (i think ava's called it a dais?? idk lmao) and they get her inside and like,,, trap her in there until they can figure out how to get her back. they probably also maybe like,,, take extra precautions and like,,, chain her up or smth (bc like,,, they'd still have to let the barrier down to give her food n stuff so,,,)

-since she's chained up n can't exactly do much, ava decides to go in there one day, "just to see, because we've tried everything we can think of so far and there has to be a way to get her back, there Has to be, and she's strong, alright, and maybe if she just,,, Feels me, maybe she'll come back to us. i have to Try"

-so she does. she lets down the barrier, steps inside, puts it back up. the rest of the legends are in the room for back up (just in case), and they watch as ava steps up to sara, who's struggling against the chains, trying to break free. ava puts a hand against sara's chest, right over her heart, and then leans her forehead against sara's, and she talks softly to her, saying whatever she can think of that might get sara to come back, to Remember

-sara struggles against her at first because she's still brainwashed, but sara is nothing if not strong and stubborn and persistent, so of course she ends up fighting through and remembering who she is and who the legends are

-she's confused for only a moment before she remembers and looks around at her team, and then she loathes herself with every fiber of her being, and she kinda just,,, loses all the fight that she has in her for that moment and just kinda,,, falls so that the chains are the only thing holding her up

-ava undoes the chains and then pulls sara into her arms so she doesn't fall completely. sara tries to push her away because she doesn't think she deserves this and also she's Terrified that she'll end up hurting ava anyway, even though she's back to herself. ava just holds her tighter though and they kinda both slowly sink to the ground

-the rest of the legends let the barrier down and kinda like,,, step closer to her

-normally sara would Hate anyone but ava seeing her this vulnerable but this isn't really a "normal" situation and also she's like,,, a little too wrapped up in self-hatred to be able to make sense of much, so the rest of the team kinda just like,,, piles in n surrounds her in a group hug to like,,, try to get through to her and show her that they all still love her

-it kinda works for a little bit and sara just like,,, lets herself sit there and break down surrounded by her team, but as soon as the night comes and she's laying in bed with ava all the self-loathing comes back again full force. at some point she manages to fall asleep, but not for that long bc she wakes up from a nightmare soon after

-she kinda just,,, shuts herself down for a while and like,,, isolates herself/pushes everyone away as much as she can

-the legends know it's a lot for her to deal with and they can't imagine the guilt and self-hatred she must be feeling (bc they know sara is Like That) but they still like,,, wish that they could get her to see that itll be okay

-it gets so bad one night that none of them get any sleep because they're all really worried about sara (and also because sara is in the gym, working herself out to the point of exhaustion and collapse and,, well,, she's not being very quiet about it)

-so they all end up in the gym with her that night, watching her break Another punching bag. and because nothing seems to be working, she grabs one of her throwing knives and throws it back into the wall farthest from her (nowhere near where the legends are standing) and then she kinda just,,, sits down,,, doesn't do anything else or say anything else, just sits down n puts her head in her hands n her shoulders start shaking

-one by one the legends all go n sit down with her and they get into as much of a group hug as they possibly can. its then that they finally get through to sara, even just a little bit, and nothing's really like,,, okay,,, because sara's still very much Not Okay about the whole thing but like,,, they all have a feeling that like,,, maybe,,, maybe itll start to get better from there on out

· he was never really a child or teen, he was just a monster that happened to break into the foundation's reality one day (i say this bc i cant really imagine him as a child or teen, he's more monster than human and we may never know if he was a normal human that adopted these powers or came from smth else)

· he is both a reality bender and anchor, more so using his bending powers more

· he has many forms, whether the 'human' one is his true one or not is still a mystery, seeing as those he may not be showing his true capabilities or if he has another twisted form that is a lot more powerful

· he may be a rival of kondraki and they hate each other's guts, but he still respects him a lot. clef even met draven (kondraki's son) and admires how konny is a good dad, so he only gives kondraki a hard time and doesn't actually dislike him (clef 🤝 kondraki: good dads and clef finds it cute)

· more than anything, he wants to take meri out on a dad and daughter day. go to the movies, the mall, buy her anything she likes, etcetc. he thinks she deserves to be spoiled rotten (and she does!!)

· but he really dislikes how his daughter is super christian, so if she ever finds out he may be the devil or even states he could be anything satanic or sinful, it wont be pretty on her side

· his face isnt that comprehendible until u personally get closer to him. if ur a complete stranger to him, its impossible to directly look at his face without some sort of problem. it'll seem like static or as if nothing is there, and itll make u want to look away since its too much for ur brain to handle (can make people have headaches or their eyes sore). if ur a pal or a well known enemy of his, you'll see some features like his sharp and terrifying grin, and sometimes his 3rd eye (which will make anybody be in distress)

· he, surprisingly, has a great voice. what makes up for his lack of face or any horrifying features is his voice. sometimes you'll hear him hum a melody or quietly sing a song in his office, he sings more calming songs than anything energetic. if ur lucky enough he'll hop his ukulele out and start singing a wonderful and peaceful song

· he loves guns, but not in a weird way. back to my first headcanon, once he entered this reality and had a somewhat stable form, the minute he found out theres metal shiny things you can hold that make loud kaboom sounds and have many varieties hes like "holy shit!?!? that is so cool!!!!!!!" and its really his comfort item. he usually goes to any open range and practices bc it is a great distraction and he loves holdin em (like a stim!). he cleans em regularly, like a hobby of some sorts

· he's made his own songs before, but he keeps em in private. he may sing em for his daughter though!

· hes more in touch with anomalous beings then regular humans, cause every anomaly thats been locked up by the foundation can relate on something

· he has yet to comprehend human emotions, mental illnesses or neurodivergency, he may be able to trick and mess with someone in their head, but being able to fully comprehend human feelings and such is far out of his abilities. maybe one day though

· mess with his friends or family? hes already at ur house bud. there's no saving ur miserable life now

· the infamous 'dr clef can't be affected by anomalous things or properties' still holds very true. he can be affected by 166's powers tho!

Genshin Impact Chapter 1 Act 3: A Reaction.

Chapter 1 Act 3 is what took my experience with this game from “good game” to “masterpiece”.

THIS POST CONTAINS MANY, MANY SPOILERS FOR GENSHIN IMPACT CHAPTER 1: ACT 3

Genshin Impact has some problems— actually, it has a shit ton of problems. But during the fight against hordes of Fatui, with the Adepti channeling their abilities through my gang, flying through them as Oz, decimating them with Diluc— I just thought, this is the best time I’ve had in a mobile game in my life.

This game might not be perfect now— it’s only a quarter of the way done if we’re counting Karenri’ah. But it will be a fucking masterpiece once it’s all out. If this is the level of quality we’re getting for our archon quests, this game is going to be an amazing time on story alone.

KEQING

I love Keqing with all my heart. If she were alive today she would be a socialist here to topple the ruling 1%. When ningguang asked Aether who they trusted more, her or Keqing, I hit the Keqing button as fast as possible.

I think one of my favorite things about Keqing is that she’s so completely honest, which is unusual for a Liyue politician. If she doesn’t like something, she’ll speak out against it. If she thinks something else should be happening, she’ll make it happen. She can probably be deceitful at times, but in general she’s straightforwards in that she wants a government for the people and by the people.

I can’t wait for her story quest!

NINGGUANG

pretty.... voice pretty....

Ningguang is cool. Her JP voice is very pretty, like she could do ASMR videos online or smth. One thing I decidedly did not like about Ningguang is how her personality just ???? flips? In the middle of the quest, for no reason other than “because plot”.

It’s established that Ningguang cares about two things more than anything— the Jade palace and Mora. Why, then, would she destroy the Jade palace for the sake of Liyue? I get that she’s a good person at heart at all, but I want to see more of her indecision, her brain saying “mora” and her heart saying “Liyue”. The way she just flips on a dime isn’t really strange but it does contradict with her preexisting characterization.

Childe’s Boss Fight!

The section of this quest from Childe’s fight to the Adepti + Qixing battle is just nonstop adrenaline.

Childe is IMO a lot more fun than Dvalin (sorry Dvalin). I’m at WL5 and have a tendency to play fast and loose with important mechanics like.... dodging, for example.... and Childe’s Mask Electro form ended up destroying my team. I killed him with Guoba because everyone else besides Xiangling was dead. I

Another thing I really enjoy about Childe’s boss fight is that in the irrationalities of Childe as a character, it actually makes sense. Genshin is decent at making weekly bosses logical excursions— Andrius wants you to get stronger, Dvalin’s weekly fight is ~~all a dream~~; but tbh sometimes the weekly bosses don’t make sense. Andrius wants to train us, not murder us! How does dvalin, a dream slash memory that doesn’t exist, manage to knock someone out?

Childe as a weekly boss actually makes perfect sense. He’s an adrenaline junkie addicted to the thrill of fighting people— to put this in modern AU terms, he’s the guy who’s first in line to ride the rollercoaster that failed all of its health and safety checks. Childe wants to befriend the Traveler entirely because they’re stronger than him, so that he can fight them over and over again until he’s the strongest. Of course, this will never happen, because the Traveler is the MC and therefore is stronger than all others. However, in this way Childe being a repeatable boss makes 100% perfect sense— he actually wants to fight the Traveler again and again and again.

The one question I have about Childe is how in the living feck are the Fatui letting him join the Traveler and fight for them *against the Fatui*??? I think this might be touched on in Childe’s Story quest, which I’ll do in a bit, but like????? They let him keep his delusion and just walk over to Aether like “aight fam I’m on your team now”? How?

Jade Chamber/ Guizhong Ballista vs Sea Monster Fight!!

Basically, all my charged adrenaline from nearly dying to Childe just came to a head in this one huge fantastic fight.

And Xiao :)

I absolutely loved seeing the Adepti and the Qixing work together. This fight was probably my favorite fight in the whole game— the music was amazing (soundtrack where), the graphics were so nice, the adepti were so feckin cool, using everyone’s abilities was n I ce. My adrenaline was reaching its highest point at this fight and it was just perfect. It was just so fecking fun after days of WL5 pain, having to pop like five ultimates to kill one hillichurl, to be able to just demolish swathes of enemies with Fischl and Diluc, run around like a madman thanks to Xiao, have infinite health idr who did that for me but bless them, just absolutely destroy.

Ever since I hit WL5 I haven’t been able to really just go insane during a fight and stop caring about HP/ when to use skills/ dodging and this have me that opportunity.

Zhongli’s Deal

*punches Zhongli across the room with the power of being the player character* I love this man so much.

Zhongli Zhongli Zhongli Zhongli Zhongli. I AM VERY ANGRY AT HOW THE PLOT RESOLVED HIS STORYLINE. But it also makes a lot of sense. And I think, for once, Zhongli should be allowed to be selfish.

Because choosing to leave Liyue was a bit selfish. He’s leaving the country that adores him, loves him, gives him shit for free; to its own devices and then to a completely unknown fate once the new Geo Archon becomes god and takes over. But he made a frankly fantastic plan and can now leave the country, for now, in peace.

I was absolutely delighted to see Zhongli in Morax form. Making deals with La Signora, being a complete and utter puppet master who set this entire situation up and played Childe like a kazoo; but just like his dear friend Venti, I think Zhongli is happier when he’s just Zhongli, the eccentric mortal. He seems so much happier and so much more relaxed when he’s forgetting about mora and eating dinner with Aether and Paimon. Rex Lapis might have just put Liyue through the wringer, but he can now put down his 3000- year long reign and just be the happy, eccentric Zhongli.

Zhongli’s little bit of insecurity over being a “bourgeois parasite” makes perfect sense now— he doesn’t want to be seen as Morax, a superfluous god who’s using his name to get whatever he wants from the humans he watches over.

But also the part of my brain that feeds off lore nEEDS to KNOW what Zhongli got from Tsaritsa. What could be worth a gnosis? His own happiness isn’t enough— Tsaritsa is likely going to use his gnosis to try and destroy Liyue. What could be worth that?

My main thought would be either “someone’s protection” or “another gnosis”, but I don’t think the latter is possible. The former could be possible but doesn’t really make sense either— a) whose protection is worth putting an entire country, much less the world, in danger and b) the Fatui are out to kill everyone who isn’t Fatui, so they won’t agree to spare a major player in the war to come like that. Brain go brrr.

I’m very hyped for Zhongli’s story quest, which I think is coming with his banner on Dec 1, when Childe’s banner ends. I really hope that Zhongli visits Mondstadt and chills with Venti for a while, but anything with this guy would be fine lol.

LORE

We got a lot of lore this update and I am delighted by it.

Firstly, we get a tiny hint of how Visions are bestowed— “if a person shows true strength of will at a desperate and fateful moment in their life, the gods will look upon them with favor.” Vague but more than we had before.

Next we got some neat lore about Inazuma— firstly, that it’s led by a god named Baal and secondly that it steals everyone’s visions. I’m very hyped to visit because guess what fam aether doesn’t have a vision.

Final Thoughts

In case you can’t tell from my insane ramblings, I loved Chapter 1 Act 3 and I absolutely cannot wait to play through Childe’s story quest and Chapter 2 and beyond.

The Prologue in Mondstadt set the stage for Genshin. We started out in a fantasy environment with a fantasy tale of an immortal bard and a dragon. Mondstadt was an excellent introduction to the world of Genshin.

And now? We’re starting to build on that. Chapter 1 brings us another story of another god and their relationship with the country they watch over. Liyue is much less of a traditional fantasy setting and takes the darkness we saw in Mondstadt— a friendship ruined by manipulation and suffering— and build on it. Now we don’t just see the Fatui more often but we also see more of the Treasure Hoarders and the way both groups kidnap and experiment on humans.

Mond started to introduce us to the Fatui, but Liyue is where they really start bringing continuous plot relevance. Inversely, we saw much more of the Abyss Order in Mondstadt than we did in Liyue. I’m extremely disappointed we didn’t see any more of the Princess this chapter, but it makes sense given that Chapter 1 was really more about the Fatui than the Abyss Order.

All I’m trying to say is the Liyue arc was an excellent continuation to the stage Mondstadt’s arc set. Now, we’re on to the world of the Eternal Shogun, Baal! I’m really excited to meet new characters and experience new stories of Inazuma, but I hope we’ll continue to see Mondstadt and Liyue in the future. Mondstadt is likely going to be the most “boring” of the countries we experience, cuz it’s just so classically fantasy- themed, but it will always be the first country we explored in this world.

After Inazuma (if I had to take a shot in the dark, inazuma’s arc will take from December 23 to maybe March or April) we’ll go to Sumeru, which I am really extremely hyped for because it sounds extremely different from Mond and Liyue and we’ll meet Cyno and possibly even Collei! (just me extrapolating lol). I can’t wait to see where Genshin Impact goes story- wise, because its first major update has brought so much to the table.

-did. did tucker really just say esperanto was a dead language only spoken as a secret code between geeks. google says around 100,000 people actively speak it. oh my god...it being an auxiliary language doesn't mean its 'just for geeks to speak in code' ...it helps bridge gaps between people who don't have a language in common...

-johnny and danny bein friends and staging a fake fight (which danny takes too seriously, once again this child has aggression he NEEDS TO WORK OUT) I hope these three stay friends, I said it before but danny needs more friendly ghosts to hang with.

-at this point, Danny's ghost enemies are a lot like, I dunno, batman's rouge gallery is the first thing that comes to mind. they all have their own gimmick and unique designs, but most of them are easy to beat after learning the Moral Lesson. I still get excited when any of them show up again, though. 18 is another valerie episode!!!! :D skulker really said you two will get along if I have to handcuff you together <3 and the gym teacher really said, youre married now, have a flour baby! ngl, I'm not really watching this show for the shipping stuff (which I am very scared to look at the fandom for after I finish this watch through- I feel like there's probably discourse/arguing about ships...) but. I'm gonna put my opinion out there. valerie/danny > sam/danny. maybe I just really love the enemies to lovers trope. And the secret identity stuff adds Extra Flavor.

-danny, you just...collapsed the water tower. and then attacked the nasty burger machine...mascot thingy...out of anger..I KEEP SAYING HE'S GOT ANGER ISSUES BUT. HE REALLY NEEDS A LESSON IN MANAGING COLLATERAL DAMAGE!!! So does valerie!! They're both pretty focused on each other. I mean it's good of Danny to say he's trying to make sure PEOPLE don't get hurt, but... (I mean I guess it's not something 14 year olds WOULD worry about, but as an adult im like, who's going to fix that? how much money will that take??)

-TUCKER MAKING BANK. and sam and tucker being super emotionally attached to their flour baby and being pretty good parents. that's cute...also him just straight kissing her and being like. WAIT. O_O JDSKAFHD. his mom baking them into cookies was the funniest possible result. tbh I dont feel like this is on tucker, if anything the other kid's shouldve been more responsible! He was just taking an opportunity to get that $$ which I respect

-Danny being more understanding of Valerie's situation in the end (helping her at her job, too, and trying to keep that a secret for her!!!) And seeing them work together this ep, and also her letting phantom get her out of the ghost zone...was very sweet. LOVE that. more valerie eps pls

-sam's grandma is hilarious and the most valid member of her family and I love her. thats my grandma now. and tucker covering for sam by dressing as her. thats true friendship <3 also skipping school to go to a goth circus. just bestie things! sam's parents are haters but for all the wrong reasons.

right so, vent below on all for the game aka the book series I finished in three and half days bc my stupid brain would not let me live my life if I didn't finish and I haven't studied for two tests I've got tomorrow but this is somehow more important in my brain (and everyday I'm more convinced about adhd)

first things first... I love neil josten with all my fucking heart and oh jesus christ I AM IN LOVE WITH HIM, he's the typical damaged mysterious character I always love but I can't regret it, like I love every single one of these characters which is a lot to say bc that never happens? (well except maybe aaron, but he has his moments, and I totally get his attitude) BUT NEIL owns my heart, like genuinely, he is my everything now, he might be one of my favorite ever characters?? like I said, I love this type of angsty character, and it's dumb but I love him

also can I say how much I love this bc it literally is one of my favorite tropes? like found family? check. queer? check. mentally and emotionally unstable? check. enemies to friends to lovers? check. abusive pieces if shit getting what they deserve? check. did I mention found family????

like I genuinely love this, and the suspense of wtf will happen next is honestly what's pushed me not to sleep this past few days and push my assignments aside (which is so not me lmao) because I physically need to know what's gonna happen fr

like nora is a very clever writer that way, even though three books cover a year which is odd, she really has a way to captivate the readers, ffs she got me to read a sports novel?? I just love the simplicity and symbolism of her writing

but oc at this point, if you have any semblance of how I am you know exactly what my vibe is... andrew and neil. lowkey toxic relationship at first, andrew was truly a piece of shit as a friend, but am I a sucker for characters finding that person they can call home and feel safe around after not ever having that?? absolutely. (warm is the word I love when describing this, a person that makes you feel warm) the way their relationship was shaped over the three books and how subtle the details are is amazing

and how much of a fucking simp neil is. there you have andrew hiding his sexuality like a pro for a long ass while and then neil just cannot stop staring at andrew like dan howell looks at phil lester. he really did nothing to try to hide his fondness for andrew once they started hooking up even though they pretended it was purely physical. I just love how hard neil fell for andrew in so little time, like he went from yes I think I'm attracted to andrew to loving and looking for andrew like nothing else mattered (big percabeth vibes)

also can't not love andrew's development. like not in the literary character development kind of way, but more of a... personal kind of way, like it's not in a writing sense, it's simply his emotional development in a human sense. idk how to say it. it's not like apollo's in toa or damon salvatore's or tony stark's. it's simply his personal development from being self isolating, possessive, closed off, and just done with everything, with no semblance of a purpose to live, to someone whose doors just opened in every way. he gave in to his own dreams, his feelings, and he understands that he truly is not alone, he has aaron again and kevin and nicky and renee and neil and everyone else. he actually allows himself to be happy and live for once instead of just existing, and maybe he's not there yet, but he's definitely working to get there now, and I love him so much istg I wanna cry rn as I write this

but getting back to neil and andrew, god I love their relationship. they worked through every step of the way, they're so caring and careful of each other's boundaries and triggers and stuff, and they just understand each other so perfectly. not one of them expects of the other more than they can give, and they just work so well. I love that they never told anyone absolutely anything, their relationship is theirs, and theirs only, they don't deny anything, they're not ashamed of being together, but I really love that they chose not to let the others make a big deal out of it.

and I can't ever forget how much andrew must really love neil. we know neil is head over heels for andrew, but technically we don't know how andrew feels. except every single action he does proves it. it's in the details. from the second book and onward, andrew has such a soft spot for neil, even through what happened with drake in TRK, god andrew cares so fucking much for neil it hurts. he may pass it off as 'there's nothing here', but every one of his actions proves otherwise. even right after coming back from rehab, he cared for neil like he cared for no one else, not aaron or kevin. everything that happened was perfectly paced. from their first kiss to their last. just andrew even going against kevin when he was being too aggressive to neil is enough proof, not to talk about andrew letting the deal with Aaron go to be with neil, or everything when neil was kidnapped.

it's just, they both deserve all the happiness in the world, and I'm very fucking happy they found love in each other after all they've been through.

I'm sorry I'm ranting so much, but you can guess how I feel about smth when I've slept so little the past three days bc I was obsessed with finishing it despite having too much to do (I didn't pay attention to a class bc I was reading and it's fair to say I didn't do good in the following quiz), so yeah I have a lot of feels for this series

I just love their little family so much, you don't understand <3 found family is just my favorite ever trope and I have to stop my rant short before I write way too much when I should be studying for my very important tests to come
