So I'm a butchgender dyke, that much is certain, but I've been so confused about my relationship with manhood. I know I want to pass as a man so people use the right pronouns, and being referred to as a man in a public sense feels right. But I don't know if I actually identify as a man? I've spent a lot of time identifying as a lesboy/boydyke, and while I still kinda resonate with those labels, I can't tell if it's because I am a man/boy. Any advice on figuring out if I'm a man or not?
it can be tough sometimes, i get why you're having that struggle! both historically and in my own experiences, i've encountered many butches who have this exact struggle- am i a man, or am i a butch person? do i need to be seen as a man socially in order to not feel dysphoric? does that make me a man or am I just masculine? those kinds of questions will circle around in your head for way too long
i'd say that it's good that you've figured out how you want other people to see and address you, that's a very important part to have figured out. it looks like you have the outside figured out, but the inside is where you're struggling. i'd say take a look at how you feel when you think about yourself as a man:
you don't have to feel over the top joy, but does being referred to as a man specifically feel good or right? do you personally find yourself naturally gravitating towards being called a man, being "one of the boys," or whatever else that would put yourself in a man's headspace without thinking? do you find that you want to see yourself as a man?
it can be hard to reflect on this, because sometimes it can be easy to think too hard and go "well wait, what even is a man?" and confuse yourself further. i think sometimes it seems hard, but it's way more simple than it seems at first. try and focus on what you want for yourself and what you want to do. does that make sense? take care of yourself, good luck figuring things out, you're more than welcome to stop by any time for more help!

a gender that is related to big cats in a specifically butch way (especially where domestic cats are seen as their femme counterparts). this gender may feel simultaneously masculine and feminine but doesn't have to.

Happy coming out day :3 !
I first came out as gay when i was 12 and then i came out again and again to different people, you know how it goes. I also had a gender crisis right after (at 13) and felt like a trans girl but unfortunately i felt like i couldn’t tell anyone in my life or online about it… being a girl was too hard so i let that girl die and numbed my dysphoria. It all came crushing down during the pandemic cause i was alone with my feelings, didn’t shave as often cause i didn’t go outside and the feelings of dysphoria finally caught up to me. I used a bunch of non-binary specific labels like demiboy, genderfluid, agender, xenogenders etc but i’ve settled for just transfem and genderqueer guy.
But in truth my gender is more of a story, it’s not just what i am, i also know why i am— i don’t feel like what i am now is what i was born as, but i did feel every stage of development my gender went through. When i felt like a girl i was truly a girl, when i felt genderless i was genuinely genderless. Also being gay and loving my gayness has made me find joy in my gender as a guy, my feelings surrounding gender are very much connected to being gay, for me being gay is the only reason i enjoy having a gender identity in the first place.
I could make a diagram but im bored but basically, i realized i liked boys as a boy, i realized i was a girl but i had to develop a different gender because the pain of being a trans girl forced my brain to stop being a girl but i have dysphoria residue and im transfem now and also genderqueer. Being autosexual and polyamorous are just byproducts of being gay lol, when you’re queer you might as well do what you’re inclined to do yknow!!
This is just how i feel, every experience is different, not every queer person’s gender intertwines with their orientation BUT FOR THOSE WHO DO!!!!!!!!!! SHOUT OUT TO NONBINARY LESBIANS/BUTCHGENDER/FEMMEGENDER/GENDERD_KE/LESBIANGENDER LESBIANS <3 also bisexuals that are fluid and multigendered because of their bisexuality, aces/aros that lack gender because of that etc, but i relate to lesbians the most cause transmasc lesbians and me transfem gay.omg.we’re matching.
Anyway love you always and forever 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

my redesigns of @/strwbryfemme’s butchgender (left), Lesbigender (middle), and femmegender (right) flags!

Original flags/notes under the cut!
Original flags:

Idk i like the colors and general vibe of these flags but the white stripes on the outside are an odd choice. They completely disappear on white backgrounds and it really doesn’t look good imo. I made some stripes a little more bold/saturated bc i prefer when pride flags have bold colors :)

i think one of the things that helped me realize i was “allowed” to be butch was that it’s more like an identity and its own gender rather than a role in relationships - which can be a key aspect in a lot of cases and has always been for me whenever i dated girls without realizing it (seriously, looking back, all the girls i had a thing with but especially one were very femme in presentation and very timid and i remember being the strong confident one who just wanted to make her feel special), but as of right now i’m single and despite being butch4femme respectfully (i always crush on the more gender-conforming girls <3), it’s my identity. it’s what makes me transmasc. it’s what the tomboy side of me has led up to. it’s why i prefer the masculine, free-spirited, ambitious version of my deadname that i connected it to. it helps me feel stronger and more resilient, like i could be a leader with my confidence for myself even if no one else ever follows for any number of reasons (unpopular opinions, irrelevancy, whatever). it’s so much easier to not worry about how i look or appease to others and frankly as an autistic individual it’s so much better to just wear loose clothing that makes me feel more comfortable and is more of a simple style for me - similarly, i look so much more me with shorter (but wider across iykwim) hair and it’s so much more efficient to wash, comb, and otherwise take care of. i can’t even pull it back anymore, which is kind of a good thing tbh since i never could master that skill lmao. i love being butch, i really do, and i’ll always be grateful to the positivity blogs and flag creators that led to the idea that maybe it really was for me after all!! :>
