🌴 Some canon muses get as overlooked as many OCs, or even more so. I have OCs and canons, Ive seen both sides and I'm not downplaying how hard it is to write OCs, but I feel bad for canon muns every time I see posts that say canons always get tons of attention for doing nothing. Lots of canons put so much work into their muses, all for one or two interactions. I feel like for a lot of people when they say "canon", they're actually saying "POPULAR canons" like Dean Winchester, Bucky Barnes, Obi Wan Kenobi, or Valkyrie, and they dont consider many (most) canons don't actually have the privilege of being Fandom's Golden Child like those are. Maybe they don't realize that?

Personally, it's always a bit wild to me to see commentators interact with the Hunger Games franchise as if Collins were writing science fiction stories instead of essays with faces. She's just not that interested in fleshing out side characters or digging into the details of the worldbuilding. These characters are concepts and symbols before they're people. There's an almost mathematical precision to who and what she explores and how deeply she does it. This is a step or two away from pure allegory. If she were writing a couple of centuries ago, she'd have named her characters things like Innocence and Anger and Watch-Carefully-Your-Soul-Lest-Ye-Be-Damned, but since she's writing for modern audiences, she has to settle for puns and allusions. If she has another essay to write, she'll assign some faces to it; she's not going to look into backstories or other eras just for the sake of storytelling, and it's not a failing as a writer that she doesn't.

🌴 It's funny how when someone writes a cis swap, they get run off the rpc for being transphobic. But when a popular franchise does the same thing (e.g. Fiona from Adventure Time, Casey from tmnt) then it's acceptable.

listen, i have no idea what’s currently canon in dc comics and i really don’t care to BUT regardless of what continuity we’re in, i think jason todd might be the funniest character of all time. just the biggest hypocrite ever and i’m obsessed. like, so many people have pointed out how crazy it is to be pissed off at tim for replacing him as robin when he literally replaced dick while dick was still alive, but then to go and parade around bludhaven as a murderous nightwing while dick is (again) very much still alive and THEN form a team with dick’s ex girlfriend and best friend??? jason todd is THE definition of “replacement” or what the fuck ever he calls tim and i actually find it so funny. stay crazy girl <3
