So, uh, to recap on the ladies of Andor, the pinnacle of progressive writing according to internet consensus:

Bix: After her character consisting only of "good at mechanics", formerly crafty (in the first Ferrix arc) and "traumatised", Bix gains a new character trait this arc - helpless rage and ✨✨✨drug addiction✨✨✨! Goodie. I'm so mad at this arc for her. We never see this woman happy independent of her trauma. We see her make happy for men - the shopkeep, Cassian occasionally, Brasso and co. in the first arc - but the only time we get an unobserved smile is when she gets her big Girlboss Yay Feminism revenge. And the featurette has everyone going "oh this is her moment", "this scene is about her" - IT'S NOT!! It's about Gorst! It's more trauma porn! Her happiness and functionality once again are dependent on men! She couldn't save herself from her trauma - she needed Cassian to help her get the drop on Gorst (and let's ignore how fucking improbable all that is for a moment, how does he even know where Gorst is???), and her happiness is fully dependent on Gorst living or dying. Her character does not EXIST without him this season. Why do we only ever see her take charge of her life to kill her abusers? The only other positive thing she's done for her life this whole season is to clean up the apartment, and she was doing that to *checks notes* hide her drug habit from her overprotective boyfriend. Feminism!! Please don't read this as an indictment of people struggling to cope with trauma, or substance abuse - I'm just so tired of everyone acting like this is such an uplifting, empowering narrative for this character, because I really, really, really don't see it.

Bringing up Maarva and Kerri as people Cassian failed to protect and nothing else is so telling. That's not even what happened! He was abducted as a child, he didn't abandon his sister, and what was he going to save Maarva from? Old age?? But that's their whole narrative purpose to the writers I guess...

Mothma: Well, I know the constant political downward trajectory is her whole thing, but we really spend the whole arc seeing her do nothing but failing to convince other politicians (mostly men) of anything and being made to look like a fool for even bothering. So far all we've given her this season is being too soft and emotional (which, by the way, is why it's a little odd to me they're pinning the same thing on Cassian - why do we need this narrative redundancy here?). And her one "big moment" (read: over thirty seconds of uninterrupted talking) she gets to have this arc is either a front for Kleya's and Luthen's business or a pointless and reckless lashing out at Krennic's overt imperialism and propaganda.

Dedra: Yeah, she's holding all the strings, but in a weird way, her whole narrative is dependent on Syril now, and I have a bad feeling this is all leading up to him being butthurt about being used. It's a great spy storyline, but just like Mothma's part, great as it is, in combo with the deeply uncool treatment of Bix, it starts to feel like an unfortunate pattern.

Cinta: I actually liked her scenes a lot! Especially the scene in the café - it had an interesting ambiguity, for a moment there I was wondering if Cinta was running Vel, getting back with her to keep her on track on someone's orders. I think I may be giving the script too much credit here, given how weirdly stilted the other two romances were handled this arc it might have rather been a case of "the writer really thinks lovers talk that way". But even if it was an accident, I think that would be an interesting feature in the show, because they're the one couple who genuinely seem to be compatible and on the same page about what they want! And I get that they were making a point to get her killed so uselessly, by friendly fire, on accident. But man, this show refuses to give a woman happiness, even for the span of a timeskip. Whenever any of the ladies seems happy or get something she wants for herself, you can already be sure she's about to die or have something incredibly heinous happen to her immediately after. And the execution of that scene pissed me off, because if that scuffle had even just been relocated to the tunnel entrance, I would have bought it. But no, they're in a really wide, mostly empty alleyway, the blaster was mostly pointed at a wall and trapped between the two men wrestling for it, and you don't even see anyone being close behind them, and yet Cinta not only manages to get hit but instantly killed - what are the fucking chances? And yes, it's a metaphor, but again, with the overall bad aftertaste, it feels targeted and cruel at this point. With how little we got to see of Cinta, it really made her death seem like an afterthought. Like Brasso, this could have packed a punch, but we knew so little about her and had seen her even less, so it just fell flat.

My only positives(ish):

Vel: Her character is really growing on me! She has such a nice, well-executed, subtle development compared to most other characters on this show. She's clearly learned from Aldhani, and she's learning from Mothma and Luthen, too, and her resentment at the life she's leading is so beautifully expressed by her last scene: The greatest punishment she can imagine is recruitment to her cause. Because that's what she's doing to this guy. Recruitment. This is on you forever, this is all your life is now, you owe me and everyone whatever you have to make up for this. That's so heartbreaking, and so real. Am I pissed that Vel is constantly and pointedly denied happiness at absolutely every turn? Yeah! But at least for her, it feels like there is a little more agency, because she chose this life, even though she clearly has options. For her, it feels a little more tragic and narratively weighty, and less like a pointless onslaught of misery.

Kleya: I love her so much. And I could (and should) point out that it feels a little shallow to have her be completely reduced to "being the only competent person among men who are losing their shit at all times". We know nothing else about her, other than that she is Girlboss(TM). But, unlike with Bix, we actually see her be outstandingly competent completely on her own merit all the time, and even though the script neglects her, too, there is an implication that she has actively and deliberately sacrificed the rest of herself to be this spymaster - instead of the writers simply forgetting to give her anything more. And I just think Elizabeth Dulau is KILLING IT. In a weird way, Kleya is giving me the power fantasy that most Star Wars gave to little boys. It's not exactly a win for feminism - it's yet another flavour of "women can either be competent and powerful OR express their emotions and be vulnerable with people" - but I do have a soft spot for her, and her moment at the exhibition was the tensest shit I've seen this whole season. Nothing more gripping so far than watching this woman attempt to turn a screw.

just some thoughts re: Dale Dimmadome's potential redemption arc

(cw for mentions of abuse and neglect) i see a lot of folks hoping that Dale Dimmadome gets some kind of redemption arc - and i'd love to see that too! the writers would do an excellent job as they're doing with all of FOPANW... ...but at the same time, i almost hope that that doesn't happen. FOPANW is noticeably less cynical than the OG series, with a great deal more optimism and less pain: especially with Hazel being such a bright protagonist and having wonderful, loving parents. but Dev and the relationship with his father feels like something straight out of the original show.

i think it's one of the things that made the original Fairly Oddparents so beloved - lots of us could really relate to Timmy and other characters who were routinely mistreated by the adults in their lives, even in a cartoonish way. i think Dale's abuse and neglect of Dev is in line with the more emotionally sensitive writing we're seeing out of kid's cartoons now: it feels very real, and it's so nice to see that type of pain validated by giving Dev a fairy godparent 💖 i'm very curious as to which direction they'll go in. if they do give Dale a redemption arc, i wonder if they'll go through a whole Dimmadome lineage thing and also address Dale's past history at the lemonade sweatshop. it feels like, compared to the original, they're bringing up this topic in a much more nuanced and real way, which is why so many people are comparing Dale to Clay Puppington: a sinister combo of neglect and manipulation which, if this were a more adult show, could become very dark. i think either outcome could be very satisfying. if Dale gets a redemption arc and learns to love his son, treat him better, and let go of his trauma, that would be brilliant - and i think more likely. however, if the writers choose to go for a very real 'you don't need to seek approval from people who harm you' message, i think they'll do it an age-appropriate way, and with a lot of skill 🔥🔥🔥

202E(lle) - Plans for 2025

More like an extension of my current goals, because this year will be MY year!

Prologue: Every year, we all get a chance to level up, to change what we didn't like about the previous year, or to continue maintaining where we are. For me, writing goals is just a part of the new year that helps me have a general direction throughout the year, which is very necessary to avoid stress and get over the occasional burnout (not the one caused by overworking while in menstrual phase lol). Even if you've just written one thing that you want to accomplish this year, at least you've got somewhere to go, a target to hit.

My goals for the year have been placed in different "categories" - more like little boxes with cool names so I don't get bored looking at them - each representing the major or larger goal to be achieved. They all represent different aspects and traits I wish to attain (gotten from songs, books or general ideas).

Fresh face, brand new día: do more gua sha/face yoga, continue my skin care routine (with the main focus on getting rid of texture).

Body go wild: work on maintaining my natural figure, more Pilates and ballet/barre classes, become more flexible.

Revving up my aura: become more elegant, alluring and charming, keep a calm and authoritative tone, be kinder and more graceful, become very knowledgeable.

Person to person: listen more, change my language (replacing negative words/tones with positive ones and use proper language), be well spoken.

Purple into gold: Continue expanding my business, get a writing job, take courses on skills I want to grow, take more risks and start more projects.

Focus on my mind: read more articles (5x a week) on all sorts of topics, read 20 books this year (about multiple genres: investing, stocks, astronomy, anthropology, etiquette etc.), increase skills in hobbies, prepare and get all necessary information for university.

Good health=Good wealth: Continue my current workout routine, go on a calorie deficit, look into more healthy ways of eating, and other good things to add to my diet.

I Rediscover: Spend more time journalling and writing, more time visualizing and planning, working through and letting go of past traumas/bad experiences.

My friend just reminded me of the 2010s Disney era and so resurfaces my need for

VilYuu StarStruck-styled romcom

(It is objectively NOT a good movie but it really stuck in my impressionable preteen head back then)

Anyway! I was thinking it started somewhere in book 2, while Cater lead Riddle, Adeuce, Yuu and Grim to investigate the culprit behind the Magift/Spelldrive incidents and that's when they crossed path with Vil! (Actually they were out to see Rook but you know, the vice housewarden was always around his housewarden blah blah). Yuu might have been genuinely entranced by Vil's beauty (as they should) but that's the extent of their impression.

But unfortunately they may or may not have made a fool of themself in front of Vil (due to either Grim or Adeuce bumping into them, making them trip and fall face first in front of the Queen). So naturally, Vil assumed this little potato was yet another admirer, and while he was flattered, he was not at all amused with how they "bent over backwards" just to see him. Just try to approach him normally next time, and maybe he'd be inclined to help them fix their clothes!

We know he really meant well despite how strict he acted, but Yuu didn't. What a self-centered, condescending arse he was! Coupling with the embarrassing situation, Yuu vowed to never like Vil, like ever <3 Not even Cater-senpai's long list of Vil's achievement can change their little stubborn mind! Not like they'd ever willingly see his works, his films, his interviews, his modelling on their own accord!

Fortunately, they never crossed path again so neither paid any more mind to the other. Unfortunately (for Yuu), they gotta bit back their complaints when they was forced to welcome Vil and his NRC entourage into Ramshackle dorm in book 5. Ok they might have tried to play a nice host, but that's because of their friends and because they actually got manners, unlike some superstar! Unfortunately being a magicless half-student and all, they couldn't really voice their opinion, but seeing Epel's "pitiful" state they silently sided with the boy and felt some type of camaraderie with him. Vil, being emotionally dense as he was, didn't realize Yuu wasn't his biggest fan, he just assumed they were a little too starstruck and shy when facing their favorite star <3 (to his defense he was quite astute with malice, and Yuu's awkwardness around him does nothing to indicate that they didn't like him, they just seemed like some of his shy fans <3 which was adorable in a way)

Things started to change along with how the events unfolded, and Yuu started to see other sides of Vil and see through his tough facade and his smart mouth. And Vil... finally got to understand that Yuu neither was shy nor idolized him, they simply did not like him, and that was because of Vil Schoenheit the asshole upperclassman who "made fun" of them (sorry for pointing out the person who fell flat in front of his heels), who "forced their friends go through unimaginable horror" (it was just stretching exercises and a ban of unhealthy snacks), whose "attitude and approach suck harder than a prostitute with a dick" (he'd never heard such... vulgar and graphic comparison before, but that aside he had no justification). They hadn't even seen his work! They hadn't even seen his portrayal of evil villains and all, so their perception of him was just... refreshingly just another student in NRC, albeit a very mean one. Kinda like Epel in a way (though Epel's case was another can of worms... no preconceptions whatsoever except his ideals for manliness).

And throughout his breakdown and overblot, both Vil and Yuu gotta face the inner demons of Vil's, and Rook's encouragement for Vil's beauty as long as he himself believed in it, and the first years chimed in and said how awesome Vil was, and Yuu quietly admitted to misunderstanding him, and they were sorry for accusing him of being superficial despite they themself were superficial when it came to judging him.

And all of those words meant a lot and Vil put his all in his performance, with Yuu, more objectively this time, witnessing his highness' in all of his glory ✨️✨️✨️

i'm so mad because i find the concept of hsr's chimeras to be so fun. scientists trying to revive extinct species but every attempt just pops out another weird little hybrid Creature. instead of the individual animals they were trying to reproduce... that's a fun little concept!

and then they went and kind of ruined it by establishing that the chimeras are 10000000000% sentient and as intelligent as any human and can be communicated with and it turns out the citizens of okhema are... exploiting them for free manual labor..? huh. and now you are given a quest where you become a manager for a squad of chimeras and now you have to turn them into top performing laborers but they don't really want to Work. but you have to ignore that and ignore their desires for self-autonomy and make them work anyway. Huh

and throughout the quest you are given options to point out that it's literally textbook exploitation and that you don't really want to participate in putting these little HIGHLY INTELLIGENT animals into what is essentially slavery. and when you complete the quest you are awarded with a little medal for having the most productive chimera squad and you can respond with "i don't feel happy about winning this." so it's not even like the writers were simply blind to the strangeness of it all. they point it out themselves! BUT NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT!

the chimeras never get an opportunity to dictate their own lives everything is controlled by the humans around them and yeah i guess there are laws in place against straight up abuse but it's still not like they're getting compensated for their work. they don't get money to go buy little chimera groceries or toys or anything. and they're shown to be fatigued and overworked and stressed and like it's just so fucking weird and uncomfortable

these little aminals should not be concocting plans to call in sick for work. like what the hell leave them alone
