Tome of the Damned - Chapter 1

It was a radio like any other, only it felt and looked more like an antique than anything. All she knew from this rather rotund looking man with an accent was that it was a gift to her from somewhere below—whatever that meant. Even if it came from a complete and total stranger, she couldn't pass up a gift such as this. For whatever reason, the item felt as though it called to her in some way.

Placing it perfectly right near her writing chair on the small desk that could only fit the antique and a lamp, she prepared to settle down for the evening. It had been a long day and even the desire to skip out on showering was an option she juggled back and forth in her mind until making a decision.

It was late and she couldn't deny her exhaustion from dealing with the emotional agony of her job. Physical exhaustion would have been one thing, but the mental anguish was on a whole other level. She felt very underappreciated in her line of work.

The aggressive rain that night was her lullaby to a peaceful slumber… or at least, so she assumed.

A noise unfamiliar to her buzzed in the background of the room, making her curious as to who or what was making that sound till a voice labored by static called out to her.

“Salutations, my dear!”

Hearing such a chipper and (seemingly) welcoming tone call out to her from the old radio, she found herself lying in bed trying to discern if this was a dream or not. There was a pause shortly after this man’s greeting, making her curious if she even heard what she thought she had.

“Can you hear me? I’ve been dying to meet you.” There was a weird glitching noise accompanying the vocals in the second part of his speech, making the tone go from welcoming to almost eerie. 

Adrenaline raked through her body, making her shoot upright in bed. “Who-Who’s there?!”

“You are unaware of who I am? Well, that’s a pity. I’ve heard a lot about you for many years now.”
