author's notes: picture’s kind of what it looks like after Jason found Y/N teary-eyed in bed, minus the book perhaps? movie name’s The Reader, 2008.

Ever since you moved into that apartment down the East End, no night has gone without you staying up until you see a familiar shadow walking through the doorsteps. You don't mind the scarce night-outs, you much prefer staying at home and making comfort food anyway. And sometimes Jason'll actually come home when the food hasn't gone cold.

Selfish as it is, sometimes you just want him to stay home with you. God knows how lonely it is in this part of the neighborhood, having recently moved to the city for college from a country half the earth away.

Your melancholy's been plaguing you every night now, but the weather at least changes a bit.

Look at the stars. Look at the apartment complexes blocks away from you. The things you do to keep yourself from thinking too much about him, hoping that you’ll catch his silhouette somewhere.

Read a book. Listen to a new album. Washing the mugs Jay leaves at unorthodox places. Still, it's taking too long. He's supposed to be home by now. Yet the only sound is the blabbering of late night shows travelling from the living room.

You climbed into bed and began weeping. Bundling up the blankets, lying like a croissant on the cold bed and feeling like a mess. God, you're so sensitive when telltale acnes start appearing around your chin.

Then comes the foot shuffling. The slight odor of sweat and iron.

Oh, finally. You sat up, slowly regaining your composure, feeling his gloves wiping away your tears.

You almost tried to hide it, but then realized Jason's not going to let you get away with bottling it all up. "I just miss you, that's all Bluebird", you confessed. He looked like a sad puppy.

Since it seems like he's still anticipating you to talk, you decided to let it flow like a flood on everything. On how you miss your family. On how you notice he always makes the door creaks at a certain fringe of time in the night. Everything. And throughout your distraught rambling, he listened attentively, nodding understandingly.

So what's he gonna do now?

You looked at him sitting by your side, seeming like he's thinking of something. Just before you pulled away, he scooped you up, to the bathroom, telling you you needed a shower. Judging by the looks, he needs it more, but this is one of those nights where you'll let him be the caretaker. He scrubbed your back and washed your hair clear of the grimes that had been building up since two days ago. Then he took care of himself, while you sat on the toilet absentmindedly.

At one moment, his slight tremor lifted you out of your thoughts. "Tim gave me some bath bombs because I recently mentioned you were trying to DIY some. Do you want to join me?"

You smiled, walking over to lay into his arms in the warm water of the bathtub. You watched the water fizzes, at the same time turning into a cloudy turquoise with swirls of purple. The bathroom smelled like olive and lavender.

You laid your face on his chest, legs draping over the sides of the bathtub. At that moment, you felt like all the boundaries between you and Jay blurred away. Somehow you were him, and he was you.

That was how you finally found peace after months of sucking it all up and trying sometimes too hard to care for people. You felt even better when he wrapped a towel around your head, trying to pat your hair dry when both of you were still enveloped in the warm mist.

It's no use trying to dry my hair with that much humidity in the air! you thought. But that's your soft spot for him. For letting his guard down around you, despite the façade he puts on outside of this sanctuary.

Christmas Gift Ideas 2020

All of the gifts below that I thought of can be altered/customized to your budget, personal style and resources.

Face Mask’s

If you are handy with a sewing machine then this is a great one for you, using fabric scraps you already own or thrift bedsheets/t-shirts etc you could make your loved ones some custom face masks. Bonus points if you find a silk shirt and flip that into some face masks as silk, is hypo-allergenic, breathable and causes less friction on the skin so is perfect for anyone suffering from maskne (mask-acne). However, if sewing isn’t for you then places like Etsy have a wide range of masks for everyone and purchasing from sellers on their also supports small business.

Candle and match sticks

Candles are all the rage with thousands of reels and tik tok’s on how to twist candles. If you are brave enough then go for it! You can gift your hand-twisted candles to your friend along with a box of nice matches. Writing empowering messages or mantra’s on the matches (maybe get extra-long ones if you have large handwriting!) will mean that every time your loved one goes to light a candle there is a message from you to brighten their day. There is no need to twist candles, you could support a small business and buy theirs or just get a standard candle. You don’t have to support every trend! Bonus points for matching your loved one’s colour palette to the candles or vice versa. For example, my favourite colour right now is green so a set of candles ranging from emerald to sage would be much appreciated.

Seasonal Drink

It may be the British in me but Christmas is a time where having something to drink on these long winter nights is the norm. I am speaking of something alcoholic but non-alcoholic also works. I love vintage/second-hand glasses and they can be pretty cheap €1 a glass. You could get a second-hand glass of your choosing and send it to your friend along with a bottle of their favourite drink. If you want to amp it up, you could also include a cocktail/mocktail recipe book and some drink rocks. Drink rocks are reusable and do not dilute your drink. If they aren’t a spirit/liquor drinker then a stainless steel ice cube tray is also an eco-friendly and plastic-free option. I could go on with more items to include in this bundle but metal straws, coasters, fabric napkins and more are all ways you could expand this gift idea.

Seasonings

If you know a good amateur chef or home cook then getting them some fancy salt, oil and or vinegar may be an interesting idea. You could buy; one, two or all three and either make sure they coordinate e.g. Rosemary salt, garlic oil and lemon vinegar or they could be contrasting e.g. Truffle salt, chilli oil and amaretto vinegar. The endless combinations make this a fun gift and allow for some fun experimentation when cooking. If you’re a big diy’er you could infuse the oil and make custom labels for everything. You could also add in crackers, olives and risotto to turn it into a Mediterranean hamper or harissa, dried apricots and Ras-el-hanout to make it more North-African.

In the Bag.

A thrifted bag from a second hand/vintage shop (if open where you are) or one bought of Depop/eBay may make a great gift for a fashion-conscious person you know. Then you could add in a lip balm and/or a lip-gloss, a packet of their favourite sweets, a cute bottle of hand-sanitiser and a travel-size bottle of hand cream. These are all optional, the bag would be more than enough but they are just extras for you to think about. You could also make any of these extras vegan, cruelty-free, plastic fee etc

Cosy Toe’s

I don’t know about you but I get really cold feet in the winter. So thick socks are a must! A great idea could be to give someone a pair of fluffy socks. They could be practical or whimsical. I have been gifted thick, grey woollen pairs and a fun foxed themed pair (I love foxes). You could embroider a message or design on them if that’s your thing or pack them with some foot cream and a pedicure kit. As salons haven’t really been open this year pamper time is even more important.

Dried flowers

I do not mean the trendy ones, all over insta interior posts, I mean the Victorian past time. Pressed dried flowers, you could use flowers or leaves you have, buy some and then press them or that sounds too long then you could even buy pre-pressed and dried online. I saw a cute DIY on YouTube where they had been glued on to a small bowl or plate in a pretty pattern. This could be used to display jewellery, makeup etc. Furthermore, you could also arrange pressed flowers and plants into a pattern and place them on a canvas or in a frame to make a minimalistic art piece for someone.

Body care kit

I often joke, I am secretly an old lady as I have dry skin and so am always re-applying lotion. Now, its wintertime that is an absolute necessity but it’s also an act of self-care and 2020 has been a long year so extra self-care is needed. So gifting someone a kit of body scrub, body wash and lotion is a little bit of luxury we all need right now. You could expand on this and include a dry brush to get that circulation and lymphatic drainage going as well somebody oil or a bath bomb to increase the level of pampering. Making body scrub is quite easy but I recommend sugar and not coffee grounds if you do go the DIY route and you can turn regular liquid soap into fun shapes with jelly moulds and gelatine.

Homemade bookmark

Before you laugh, I am not suggesting the ones you made when you were seven unless you were an expert crafter. I am suggesting more sophisticated ones but the end product is up to you so I take no responsibility, I am just the provider of ideas! Those pressed flowers we had earlier? Extra ones could be attached in a pattern and glued onto card. You could go full out an paint one using all your creativity. Or make one out of photos of you and the booklover you’re giving this too. Lastly, it could just be an inspirational quote like: you deserve another glass of wine

Or you could do one of each and give them a medley of bookmarks for all their mood and needs.

Last but not least a Playlist

I know this may seem a little 2012 Tumblr but bear with me. You curate a playlist for them on their preferred app; if you don’t have access or its different to your one then give them detailed instructions for how they should assemble it). The playlist could be based upon a memory you have together or something you’re planning to do with them in the future, or anything you want! Then write out an explanation behind why you chose each song, what it reminds you of and why you thought that person would get it. You could burn the playlist onto a CD if you have the tech for that. For all the artsy types you could illustrate the written out reasoning with drawings, attach photos, collage – whatever you like to get the emotion across.

To everyone reading, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and for those who don’t celebrate then this list may come in handy for another gift-giving occasion. I don’t know about you but I cannot wait to be stuffed full of food on Christmas day, opening presents and sharing laughs.

Rafael Barba Relationship Alphabet

A for Arguments - How often do you two argue? Who apologises first? How do they make up? etc Not so much as arguments just little disagreements. The two of you are very different and differ in opinions a lot but it’s why Rafael fell in love with you. But if there is an argument then it’s a big one. 8/10 times Rafael is the one to apologise first because he can’t stand to be the reason you aren’t happy. He’ll send you a text first and judge the reply. He’ll bring you home your favourite ice cream and some flowers, he’ll just try his hardest to do everything he can to make sure you aren’t mad. When you apologise, you wrap your arms around Rafael. He always tries to stay mad but he can’t and when you feel him melt into your body you whisper a quiet sorry.

B for Bedtime Routine - Do they prefer to be the big spoon or little spoon? Favourite sleeping position? etc Rafael is always in bed first, he’ll be sitting up reading a book while you are in the bathroom doing your usual routine. When you join him in bed he becomes the big spoon straight away, he loves holding you close and you always feel so protected. After a particularly hard case for the two of you, Rafael need to be touching you just to know that you are safe and still with him.

C for Cook - Do they cook? Can they cook? What type of food do they like to cook for their partner? Unfortunately, because you are both so busy take out is a common thing in your house but when there is a chance to cook Rafael does. He loves to cook you all the Cuban dishes his Abuelita taught him when he was younger and he’s even started teaching you how to make a few.

D for DIY - Do they like to make gifts for their partner? Are they good at general DIY around the house? Do they enjoy doing it? Rafael is amazing at a lot of things but DIY is not one of them 😂 whenever anything breaks at the apartment you always call the super Because Rafael will just make it worse.

E for Effort - How much effort do they put into their relationship? Your relationship with Rafael is very chill and easy-going. That doesn’t mean you don’t put a lot of effort into it, it’s just that your professional lives are so busy that when you are together you like to just be able to be lying around and relax together. You always try to get date night at least once a month though.

F for First Date - Where do you go on your first date? How does it go etc Rafael took you out to a really nice restaurant for your first date. Him dressed in a suit and you in a beautiful outfit, it was set to be perfect... until it was ruined by Sonny calling you to say there was an all hands on deck case. When the two of you rocked up to the precinct together, dressed the way you were, there was no stopping the teasing comments coming for the rest of the squad.

G for Gifts - What kind of gifts do they gift their partner? What kind of gifts do they receive? etc Rafael, I reckon, would be the type of guy to randomly buy you flowers. Or get you your favourite bath bomb when Liv would text him to tell him you’d had a particularly tough day.

H for Honeymoon - Where do they go on Honeymoon? Details on the honeymoon etc. Rafael would take you to Cuba to meet all of his family and to show you all the places that were significant in his family. The home is mother grew up in, the church where his grandparents go married etc before jetting you off to Greece to relax and spend some quality time as a married couple before heading back to the mayhem that is New York.

I for Intimacy - What do like they like? Where do they like to be intimate? Are they experienced etc? It all depends on the moment and what you both need. Rafael can do hard and fast but he always loves to take his time and watch you unfold beneath him. He’s an experienced lover and it definitely shows.

J for Jealously - How jealous are they? How often do they get jealous? How they react? etc Oooooh boy does Rafael have a jealous streak. He hates the idea of you being with someone else. It takes all his might not to barge in on an interrogation when he sees how a suspect looks at you or flirts with you. He’s even gotten angry at a couple of uniforms when they get a bit too close for comfort. He knows he has nothing to worry about, you only have eyes for him, but he can’t help it sometimes.

K for Kink - Do they have any particular kinks? PAPI PAPI PAPI do not try and tell me that Rafael doesn’t love it when you call him Papi or counsellor.

L for Long Distance - How do they cope with Long Distance? How they prefer to keep in contact? etc When the two of you have to go without each other for a bit of time texting is your favourite form of communication. Sometimes it can be hard to coordinate your schedules for calls so texting is your best bet.

M for Marriage - Do they want to get married? Their wedding etc. yes, Rafael wants to get married. Before you, he hadn’t really thought about marriage and kids but you changed him. The thought of him having you by his side for the rest of his life never fails to make him smile.

N for Night’s Out - Where do they take their partner on nights out? How often do nights out happen? Nights out are not very common for the two of you, again, you are both very busy. Sometimes though you’ll make it to a Broadway show or you’ll manage to convince Rafael to come out to a bar with you but that usually includes the rest of the squad.

O for Often - How often do you see each other? How many times a week? etc Considering the two of you work together you see each other every day. The two of you move in together relatively quickly because the two of you realised that pretty much you would be at his apartment or you would be at his.

P for Public Displays of Affection - Do they like PDA? Do they have boundaries etc. At work, there are very few moments for PDA. Both of you are focused on the job, it’s just a lot of stolen glances, a squeeze of the hand when walking past each other and if your lucky a quick kiss whether on the lips or cheek when you get a moment alone. When your not a work, however, Rafael always has his hand on you. Either around your waist, holding your hand or around your shoulders, he loves to be touching you and he will kiss you at any moment possible.

Q for Quiet - Why do they get quiet? How does their partner solve it? Rafael goes quiet for 3 reasons. The first is if the two of you are in an argument. The second is if he has had a hard day and the third is if he is feeling insecure. To solve it, you’ll just cuddle up to him, remind him that you are there for him and that you love him. There’s nothing else you can do really. He loves just to know that you are there for him.

R for Reunion - How they like to reunite with their partner? After being away, Rafael would show up to the precinct and walk straight to your desk and plant a kiss on your lips. You’d squeal in delight wrapping your arms around him, never wanting to let him go.

S for Surprise - Do they like surprises? What kind of surprises do they like to get etc? Rafael says he doesn’t like surprises, “I need to know everything about them I don’t want any surprises on the stand”, but there’s no denying that he doesn’t love little surprises like you showing up unannounced at his office for something not work related or when he gets home and you’ve made his favourite meal.

T for Texts - How often do they text? How do they react when they receive texts from their partner? Everyone can tell when Rafael gets a text from you. It always leaves a goofy grin on his face, Liv loves to make fun of him for it. The two of you are constantly messaging each other. It lets the other know you are thinking about them.

U for Unity - How well do they work with their partner? Do they make a good team? You and Rafael make the best team. You fit together and work so well together not just personally but professionally too. It’s because you are so different you just work together perfectly.

V for Vacation - Favourite vacation spot to take their partner? Rafael loves to take you to Miami. His family that made it to the states from Cuba live in Miami so he loves to be able to spend time with them as well as you but he always loves to be able to relax in the Florida sun.

W for When - At what point do they move into together? What kind of place? etc Like I said the two of you move in relatively quickly but it just makes sense. What’s the point of having an apartment if you are only there half of the time? The two of you get a 3 bedroom apartment in Manhattan - your bedroom, a spare room and an office for Rafael. Though you know it won’t be your home forever once kids start coming along...

X for X-ray - What is their favourite body part on their partner? Rafael loves everything about you but if he had to pick one thing it would be your eyes. He loves the way you look at him and he can always tell how you are feeling by them. It makes his heart fill with joy when he notices your eyes brighten when you see him.

Y for you - A random headcanon about your relationship. Sunday mornings When you both manage to get a Sunday off it is 100% spent in bed. The whole day. Besides getting up for the bathroom and food, you are in bed. Legs intertwined, your head laying on his chest as your fingers draw small patterns on his skin, completely and utterly relaxed.

Z for Zoom - Zoom into the future, what does your future look like? A house in the suburbs big enough for your family with at least 3 kids - you want 3 anymore after that is a blessing. You’d definitely have a dog and despite Rafael saying that it’s not allowed on the bed, you’d definitely come home after a night shift to see Rafael and the dog sleeping in bed together.

The Woes and Antics of Living Together-18

AAAAHHHH!!!!! I've gotten to another chapter I've been dying to write!!! And while the part I was most excited for didn't come out quite like I wanted (Curse me for never writing things down when they happen five months ago) I still like the way that it happened. I'll admit, I'm a little bit mean to Poppy in this chapter but Branch helps make it better.

The sky was cloudy but bright with a light breeze as Poppy happily walked back to the apartment, Planning Clipboard in hand. A bag a of fresh, blank invitations hung from her wrist, ready to be customized for the upcoming event. Creek's surprise birthday party was coming along and she couldn't be more excited. Of course, everyone knew Poppy always threw her friends' parties, ever since she was young, but the how, when and where was how the surprise came in and boy did she love to throw surprise parties. They were her jam after all! And she had to make sure this one would be perfect for Creek. She was finally going to tell him how much she really felt about him and ask him to be her boyfriend. There was never any rule that said she couldn't be the one to ask and she was tired of waiting.

Poppy flipped through her list of party essentials as she hummed a love song, check-marking things off as she went. Suki had told her the music was set, a mix of songs to dance to and more mellow ones to set the atmosphere. Alongside some of Creek's favorite instrumental scores from movies. Decorations were all gathered, the usual collection of balloons, streamers, tablecloths and fairy lights, with some more unique additives to fit their theme. They had small Buddha statues to set around, lotus flower cutouts to hang up, scented and non-scented candles, a few incense burners and some pretty gem stones to sprinkle around. Next was the menu, which thankfully they had found a happy medium for, tasty but healthy snacks. They'd have various dips, hummus, guacamole and a Greek yogurt one Poppy found a recipe for, with a host of vegetables and baked chips. Dried fruit and nuts to nibble, fresh fruit parfaits, homemade fruit punch and some of Biggie's infamous deviled eggs. They'd also have a few more traditional party snacks and, of course, the six dozen carrot cupcakes Poppy was going to bake. She also had plans to make Creek a full sized cake too.

Last but not least, was the venue and Poppy couldn't be more excited for it. The university had the perfect outdoor area, trees and flowers surrounding an open area that could host tables and decent sized dance area. There was even a covered area, a pretty wooden pergola, built close enough where they could set out the food! Poppy had checked with the school and had luckily been able to rent the place for the night and she just couldn't wait! It would look so pretty all lit up with twinkling lights and candles. It was going to be magical.

Poppy nodded to herself, seeing just about everything checked off, the only things were whatever last minute details that always popped up and of course her present for Creek. She had thought about going along with the Pack's idea of just her being his present but she wanted to gift him something as well. Trouble was, she couldn't decide. She had seen a really pretty incense burner at the shop they got all the stones from but she also knew he had a tiny collection of them, so she felt like she could find something different. There was also the necklace she saw with the small charm of a mandala but Creek really wasn't big on wearing jewelry besides the friendship bracelet she had made him. She could just always find him a new pair of flip-flops, at least that's what Branch had said when she had been brainstorming out loud. Then it hit her! The perfect gift idea! She could make up a basket of all his favorite bath products! Creek always loved to talk about the benefits of good hygiene and Poppy knew long, hot baths were the only guilty pleasure he really allowed himself. It was perfect!

The pinkette made a note about her idea, listing what she'd need to get alongside a reminded to look up some DIY bath-bombs. She'd always wanted to try making some and that just seemed like it would help make her gift just a little more special. Giggling, she danced a happy jig, her excitement and inspiration overflowing before heading inside her building, an invite decorating storm was about to take place!

Branch was not amused to come home to what could only described as an explosion of paper and glitter. Scraps of construction paper littered the floor around the coffee table, with said surface overflowing with Poppy's collections of craft supplies. Small buckets of shaped scissors, stamps, stamp ink and shaped hole punches were stacked across the far side, various ones Poppy had already used laying loose. Her extensive sticker collection was spread out around her, the folders she kept them leaning beside her on the couch, with a few empty sheets on the floor. There were various types of glue sitting in places and the table sparkled with the tell-tale sign of glitter having been spilled out of its container. A pile of invitations sat completed on the farthest corner, ready to be given out by a smiling Poppy, who was just finishing up another colorful piece of art.

“Welcome home~!” The pinkette sang, grinning up at him happily as he came inside.

Branch had to try very hard not to look away as she flashed that beautiful, happy smile at him. After her little drunk incident, it had been even harder to look at her without blushing but he had promised her he'd try not to act weird around her after that. But it could be so damn hard, she was just too gorgeous when she was in a good mood and it almost, almost, made him want to spill his guts about his affection for her. Add in he could now recall her saying she wanted him well...the last few weeks hadn't been that easy for Branch when he was alone with her. Especially since Poppy had spent a good portion of them planning out a party for Creek.

“Hey.” He finally said back, turning to go find something in the kitchen. What he really didn't know but he couldn't take the risk of just staring at Poppy, “I see you've made a mess of our living room.”

“Oh shush!” Poppy giggled before throwing her arms out wide and shouting, “Art knows no bounds! And invitations won't make themselves!”

Branch rolled his eyes before mumbling, “Could always just get pre-made ones...” Even though he knew she would never, Poppy adored making custom invitations and, if Branch was being honest with himself, he liked seeing her creations. Even if he didn't show it.

Poppy gasped dramatically, having heard him, “Nonsense! I would never!” She giggled before perking up and flipping through her finished pile, “Speaking of...” She pulled one out and scurried over to Branch before thrusting out a colorful, sparkling envelope at him.

“Poppy...” He warned, of course she would try to invite him to the party she was throwing for Creek.

“Please?” She begged, eyes wide and she held out the invitation, “I know, I know. You 'don't do parties' but I promise it's not gonna be a loud, crazy, super amazing one. It's gonna be a little more calm, no flashing lights but still a lot of fun one. Pleeease? You'd have fun~”

Branch doubted that. There was no way he was gonna watch her, and everyone else, fawn over Creek. “No.”

Poppy predictably pouted before she gently shoved the small packet of paper into his hands, “Just think about it, okay? There's time to change your mind.”

Branch wasn't going to but she didn't need to know that. He just took the envelope without fuss and made to go to his room, saying something about having some homework to finish. In reality he was going to add the newest invitation to his collection after opening it. He just hoped she passed on the glitter bomb this time.

The day of the party arrived a few days later and Poppy could barely contain her excitement. She had spent all of the previous afternoon baking and frosting cupcakes, so now she had four dozen carrot cake cupcakes, alongside another two dozen of vanilla. The vanilla ones she had decided to bake at the last minute for some variety and so she could use sprinkles. Sprinkles made everything better. She had also baked up a vanilla bean cake just for Creek and now that it was cool, she just had to work her frosting magic on it but first she was heading to the university. She wanted to get a head start on the decorating before handing off the duty to Guy and Biggie.

Poppy took a look around the courtyard they would be occupying when she got there, grin wide as she pictured how wonderful it would look when they were done. Gathering all the supplies she would need, she stacked all of the streamers, paper hangings, lights, lanterns and all the other bits on a table, organized for easy handling. Then taking a roll of light purple crepe paper, the pinkette looked around for a good starting point, deciding to start with twisting it around the pergola's posts. Once finished with the purple streamers, Poppy grabbed a roll of a pretty aqua green to wrap around the alternating posts and from there started to hang long, twisted rows across the beams. By the time Guy and Biggie showed up, with Suki and her DJ equipment in tow, she had a good base of things started.

Her friends quickly jumped in to help her, so Poppy took a quick moment to film them while they worked before placing her camera back on it's mini tripod. They worked together efficiently after years of doing this and soon they had more streamers stretching overhead with lights intermingling. Suki had her DJ table set up under an awning where it would close enough to hear but out of the way so no one would trip on any wires and Poppy was standing on a chair hanging paper decorations when Smidge rolled in with Cooper. They had the coolers and bags of food with them, so Poppy directed them to store it all inside the small kitchen of the building the pergola was connected to. Said building was part of the Home Economics division and had a few kitchens, one of which they were allowed to use. Once everything was looking like Poppy had envisioned, she left the Pack to complete setting up the tables and such while she headed home to decorate Creek's cake and grab his gift.

Coming home, she wasted no time gathering up the ingredients for buttercream frosting, calling a greeting to Branch who was reading, and threw them all in her stand mixer. Carefully, she pulled the cake out of the oven, where she stored it for safe keeping, and divided it in two. Once satisfied with her frosting, she split it in half and dyed one lavender and the other mint. She then spent the next hour and a half making the cake look how she wanted it. It would have been quicker but she'd wanted to make sure that her crumb coat was fully set in the fridge before continuing, that particular cake recipe was always crumbier than others. She had just piped some frosting flowers around the edge and was piping 'Happy Birthday Creek' on top when she decided to ask Branch again if he wanted to come along.

“Are you suuure you don't wanna come?” She said, focused on her cursive, “It's gonna be fun~”

“Yes, I'm sure.” He grumped at her from his seat in her chair, eyes not leaving his book, “I told you the weather report said it was going to rain today and I am not getting stuck out there in it.” The other reason, of course, was because he didn't want to see Poppy hanging off of Creek and listen to whatever crap the 'guru' always spewed.

Poppy rolled her eyes, setting her piping bag down to gesture outside the window, “It's not gonna rain, Branch! It's sunny and clear,” True it had been a little breezy but that was nothing, “The weather report has been wrong before.”

Branch scoffed, “Still not going and don't blame me when you get rained out.”

Poppy was just about to reply when Satin and Chenille came through the door, “Poppy!”

“We came to get you and save you another trip,” Satin exclaimed, “Are you ready?”

“Just about!” She quickly added a few finishing touches to the cake before sliding it into a box and grabbing Creek's gift basket, “See you later, Branch!”

“You're gonna get rained on!” Was his parting reply.

After arriving back at the venue, Poppy slipped the cake into the fridge for safe keeping until it was time to serve it before placing her gift with the other few. She then took in all of what the Snack Pack had done while she was gone with a grin. Tables were set up, the white tablecloths fluttering in the breeze, with candles and small flower centerpieces adding charm and whimsy. Some of the incense had already been lit so there was a faint aroma of lavender and vanilla in the air and the lights had just been turned on. Poppy was ecstatic with the way everything looked, especially with the setting sun starting to cast a pinkish glow over everything. Taking her phone out, she quickly snapped a photo to post later before turning to her friends.

“This look amazing, you guys!” She clapped before pulling them into a group hug, “I think Creek's really gonna like it!”

“Oh for sure,” Guy agreed, smirking playfully, “You planned it after all~”

“Stop,” Poppy giggled, “You all helped.”

“But you did the majority of it,” Satin said, wrapping her arm around one of Poppy, “But we'll admit, it needs one more thing...”

Chenille wrapped her arm around Poppy's other, “You to look amazingly stunning~! Come with us!”

Poppy laughed as she was dragged away to the nearest bathroom for a patent Couture twin style up.

Almost an hour later, Poppy twirled in front of the bathroom mirror, once again impressed and proud of the fashion sisters. They had sewn a brand new dress for her that was a dark aquamarine in color and in the halter top style she loved. It had a sweetheart neckline and the straps wrapped around her neck, leaving her back bare for her tattoo to show. The waistline was cinched slightly under her bodice with a small decorative bow off to the side and it was knee length with a sheer overlay of sparkly organza. Her hair had been pulled up into a higher ponytail with the ends curled so they bounced when she moved alongside the tendrils that framed her face. Her make-up matched with glittery eye-shadow in the same color, light pink blush and strawberry pink lipstick. A matching headband with one silk flower and silver, strappy heels completed the look.

“Girls...” Poppy awed as she spun again, loving the way the dress spun around, “This is beautiful! Thank you so much~”

“You're welcome!” The chirped in unison.

“Now there's absolutely no way Creek won't ask you out tonight.” Giggled Chenille.

“Yes! And we'll all make sure he gets a chance to!” Satin added.

Poppy giggled with a nod, “Right!” She then spun the face them with a clap, “Now let's get out there! Guests should be arriving soon and after that the birthday boy himself! You guys made sure to tell him to meet us here for something right?” It was a safe bet Creek already knew there was a party happening, Poppy was never subtle about that sort of thing but she still hoped it would be a surprise anyway.

“Guy texted him at lunch saying he needed to see him for some school thing.”

“Great!” Poppy clapped, smile wide, “Then let's get out there!” This was gonna be awesome!

When they rejoined the rest of the Pack, Suki had started up the tunes as a few people had already started to show up. Poppy greeted them happily, trading hugs and thanks for coming. She got lots of compliments for how pretty she looked and was even pulled in to some selfies with Guy, since they were both looking gorgeously fabulous. As more and more people began to arrive, Poppy could barely contain herself as she eagerly awaited Creek's arrival, excited for when he'd come to see what they'd put together for him.

The sky was turning progressively darker as time went on, dark clouds moving in and blocking out the few visible stars and the slowly rising moon. Poppy couldn't help but bite her lip as she looked up from lighting a few candles. She hoped they would just blow away soon and that Branch wasn't right about the weather taking a turn for the worst. Her friends tried to assure her it would be alright, if it started to drizzle they could just take the party into the hallway of the Home Ecs building. She had nodded but a tiny knot of worry was starting to form in her stomach, especially when there still wasn't any sign of Creek.

She was trying not to let it show how much she was starting to fret, it wasn't like Creek to miss something without saying anything, when she felt the first rain drop hit her nose. She glanced up at the clouds as more drops began falling, the peppering of rain hitting the sidewalk echoing around her. She and the Pack quickly directed guests indoors before the rain got too bad, snacks and gifts being grabbed to save them from the water. Poppy hoped it would just a quick little storm, nothing bad enough to delay the party too long but as the rain began to fall harder and faster, soaking all their hard work, the pinkette couldn't help but be disappointed. It also didn't help that there still hadn't been any word from Creek.

Poppy looked down at her phone, hoping to see some missed notification or something indicating Creek had reached out but all that greeted her was her lock screen's picture. She tried not to frown, tried to interact with everyone but as time went on and people started to leave before the storm got any worse, she couldn't help it. It was so unlike him to not say anything, even if he didn't know they were throwing a party for him, he knew they wanted to see him so for none of them to have a message from him...Poppy didn't know what to think. Suki had suggested calling him but before Poppy could try, Guy mentioned he already tried that with the call going straight to voicemail.

Poppy sighed, thoughts and feelings a turbulent mess, “Let's just...call it a night then...” She didn't want to, she hated canceling parties but there was nothing else to be done with the weather the way it was and with the guest of honor missing.

“Pops...” Suki exhaled, reaching out to place a hand on her friends shoulder. She knew how much Poppy had been looking forward to this.

Poppy forced a smile at her orange haired friend, trying not to let it show just how upset she was, “It's okay, Suks'. It's getting pretty bad out there anyway.”

Suki nodded slowly before pulling the pinkette into a hug. Poppy sighed softly and hugged her back, soon enough being engulfed by the rest of the Snack Pack. When they disengaged, Biggie and Guy helped Suki gather her equipment, Cooper went to look for something to store and carry the small pile of gifts, and Smidge went to break the news to the few remaining guests. Poppy peeked outside from the door, looking out into the storm and knowing that they'd have to come back in the morning to clean up when Satin and Chenille approached.

“What do you say to a sleepover tonight?” The younger twin offered, smiling hopefully at her.

“Yeah, yeah! We can give each other Mani-Pedi's, facials, watch trashy romance movies~” Chenille' chimed, hoping the allure of some girl time would help perk Poppy up.

“Ah...” Poppy stalled, not wanting to hurt their feelings but not feeling up to all that, “Thanks you guys but...I think I'd just like to go home...”

The twins shared a concerned look before nodding at Poppy, “Alright...”

“At least let us drive you home?”

Poppy quickly shook her head, “No, I won't let you guys do that. You live almost on the other side of town from where I do and I won't have you out in that for longer than you have to be. I'll just take the bus.”

“But Poppy-” Chenille started.

“Guys, really, it's okay.” Poppy really didn't want to try and explain that she...just didn't want to be around anyone right now. She kind of just wanted to cry really but she didn't want that happen in front of her friends, she was sure it wouldn't help them feel any better about this situation either, so she'd rather have it happen when she was by herself.

The twins frowned and huffed slightly but relented, not liking letting Poppy be by herself tonight. That was when Milton approached, an umbrella in hand, and smiling softly, offered to escort Poppy to the bus stop. She accepted and after another group hug, and promises she'd meet them tomorrow to clean up what was left outside, Poppy and Milton left to reach the bus stop before the next bus arrived.

Poppy waited for the bus for possibly a little longer than she had to after she waved goodbye to Milton. She had been thankful he hadn't tried to talk her into going home with him and Smidge and had just shared a sympathetic smile before leaving her. She shivered under the awning as she sat there, thinking maybe she should've changed but unable to fix that now. The pinkette stared down at the ground as she waited, frowning at the cement as she hugged herself for warmth. She couldn't accurately describe just how she was feeling at the moment, disappointed that the party had gotten rained out and that all their decorating was now ruined; sad, upset, hurt that the person this was all for hadn't shown up or even called! It was so unlike him too... And the more Poppy thought about it, the more she felt the prickling of tears in her eyes, but she wouldn't cry...not yet at least.

When the bus finally pulled up, she scrambled up the steps and, after disposing of some change, took one of the many empty seats. Poppy leaned her head on the cool glass and listlessly watched the scenery go by, wondering if there had been anything she could've done to change the night's outcome. Of course she knew she couldn't have controlled the weather but maybe she could've been the one to tell Creek to come or maybe even tell him they were throwing a party for him. That would've ruined the surprise sure but...maybe he would've shown up. Sighing, she really didn't know, she closed her eyes tightly to prevent tears from falling as the urge to swelled. She really didn't want to cry here on a public bus, she'd rather wait until she was surrounded by her many stuffed animals and could muffle herself in her pillow.

It was weird to see the streets of town so empty, she thought once the urge passed, the storm having forced everyone home or inside. Poppy watched the rain run in thick sheets down from the sky, the wind blowing it at an angle and sparing nothing from getting drenched. She sighed, wishing for nothing else that she was at home and curled under a warm blanket. Well...she also wished Creek had texted or called or something because it was so unlike him not to and she couldn't figure out why. She knew he wouldn't allow his phone to run out of power or be turned off, it also wasn't like him to misplace it and he would never, ever, just not show up. He always made sure to let someone know if he couldn't make it or if something was wrong. Poppy had worried briefly if maybe he was hurt or had gotten sick but that was silly as he was always safe and was as healthy as can be. There was no way he couldn't have gotten sick, he was fine when she had talked to him that morning.

Sighing once more, the young woman just couldn't come up with a reason as to why he hadn't shown up. Looking out at the dark streets, Poppy noticed a few familiar shops and realized she was close to home, a few more blocks and she could go curl up in her room. However as she was picturing herself cuddling the stuffing out of Fuzzbert 2, the bus started to slow down, with no bus stop in sight. Looking toward the driver, Poppy saw him struggling with the controls before the bus came to a complete stop. The driver tried to turn the bus back on by turning the key a few times but nothing happened.

Sighing, he turned to face Poppy and the two other patrons, “Sorry, folks. Looks like we've run into a little engine trouble. We'll be stuck here until help comes.” He then turned back around to make a phone-call for help.

Poppy leaned back against her seat, frowning, before thinking about what she could do. She really didn't want to sit here... Glancing outside, she knew the thought in her head probably wasn't the best idea but she really just wanted to be home right now. Plus a little rain never hurt anyone. Getting up, she went to the front of the bus and asked if she could be let out here. The bus driver gave her a skeptical look, tried to tell her it would better if she just waited on the bus but she assured him she didn't live that much farther from where they were. Shrugging, he said alright and opened the door for her. Poppy said her thanks before rushing out and under a convenient shop awning.

Bracing herself, she continued to race under awnings and overhangs of shops until she was around the corner and out of sight of the bus. She then took a moment to lean against the side of the building she was by and stare out into the rain. Okay, so yes, this was a bad idea, to walk the rest of the way home in the pouring rain but she was already wet now. Closing her eyes, she let out a little whimper, finally breaking and letting her tears fall. Stepping out into the rain, Poppy let it wash over her, flattening her hair against her skull and ruining her make-up. She really didn't care all that much though, but she did hope the twins would forgive her for soaking the dress they'd made. The dress they had made for her to impress Creek, Creek the person they had been trying to throw a birthday party for, the person that hadn't shown up...Poppy let out another whimper as she thought about everything again, but just wound up more confused and hurt than she had been already. This night had been a disaster.

Finally reaching home, she went inside to the elevator and shivered as she rode it to her floor. She hoped Branch was occupied in his room or maybe even asleep because she really didn't want to listen to him lecture her. Digging out her keys with wet, shaking fingers, she unlocked the door and let herself in.

However the universe wasn't on Poppy's side at that moment as Branch was standing in the kitchen. He looked at her as she came in with wide eyes at her drenched state, hair and dress clinging to her, the flower on her headband dropping and creating a puddle from where she stood. She watched him open his mouth to say something but she held up her hand to stop him, “Please, Branch...just...don't.” She sniffed and hugged herself, head dipping low, “You were right, okay? It rained, enough said, I don't need you to lecture me...”

Branch blinked at her, shocked not only at her coming home so early and admitting she was wrong but also at her body language screaming that something else was the matter. Wanting to ask what was wrong but not wanting to upset her more, he ran a hand through his hair, he was out of his element here, before growling, “Just...stay there.”

He hurried to the linen closet and pulled out two of Poppy's biggest and fluffiest towels before coming back and finding Poppy had only moved to drip on the kitchen floor. Ignoring the way her dress clung to her curves, he wrapped one around her shoulders and after she took hold of it, draped the other over her head. He began to rub the towel over her hair, frowning when she didn't make a noise of complaint. Branch had figured she would be disappointed when the party was ruined by the storm but the way she was acting...something else had to have happened. This wasn't the usual Poppy he dealt with.

When she sniffed quietly under the towel, he couldn't help but ask, “...What happened?”

She was silent for a long moment, and he wasn't going to fault her if she didn't want to answer, when she softly murmured, “...Creek never showed up...”

Branch stilled, unable to comprehend what he just heard but also completely able to believe it. That absolute bastard! Poppy hadn't been subtle with her planning, never was when it came to something for her friends, he had to have known, but for him to not show up?! That was low, even for him. Wanting to go find the jerk and rip him a new one with the sudden, overwhelming urge of protectiveness, Branch's attention was brought back to Poppy as she sniffed again. Taking a deep breath, he'd contemplate what he wanted to do to Creep later, right now Poppy needed to be taken care of.

Carefully tilting her head up so their eyes met, he spoke softly, “Hey, listen to me, okay? Go take a warm shower, nothing too hot or you might shock your body. Then blow-dry your hair, okay? You shouldn't go to bed with wet hair and I am not dealing with you if you get sick.”

Poppy blinked, taken slightly aback from Branch's soft tone but nodded anyway, “Okay.” She then carefully stepped back and shuffled around him to head to the bathroom.

Branch watched her go, concern written clearly across his face before sighing roughly and running his hand through his hair again, there had to be something he could do to cheer her up, right?

~*~*~*~*~*~

When Poppy emerged from the bathroom almost an hour later, wrapped in her comfiest pajamas and feeling...well not better, she was still pretty upset but the overwhelming urge to just cry had left, she was met with the sound of whip-cream being sprayed and the delicious aroma of hot chocolate. Wandering back down the hall, she found Branch by the counter, spraying a large dollop of whip-cream into his mug, one of hers sat next it with a smaller dollop flouting on top. Branch glanced up at her and almost dropped the can before smiling awkwardly.

“Uh, hey,” He greeted, rubbing the back of his neck, “I-um..made some hot chocolate.” He carefully held the mug out to her, “We were out of marshmallows though, so I hope you don't mind the whip-cream... I, um, also plugged your phone in and texted everyone you were home.”

Flashing a very small smile, Poppy took the mug gratefully, “That's fine... Thank you.”

“Ah...no problem..” Branch mumbled, feeling just a little uncomfortable doing this, he wasn't use to doing things like this, “I-uh...” He cleared his throat and tried again, “I also queued up a movie if you...felt like watching something...”

Poppy looked over at the TV and sure enough there was Tangled, one of her favorites, all ready to be played. She felt another small smile grow across her face before she took a sip of her drink and glanced at Branch, “I think I do actually. Thank you...” She paused before asking, “Do you...wanna watch with me?”

“Ah, well...” Branch grimaced, hating to disappoint her more, “I actually have to finish studying and writing a paper,” He gestured toward the table that was covered in his text books, “But I'll be out here...”

Poppy nodded and shrugged, “Okay.” She then shuffled over to the couch and, finding Fuzzbert 2 already there waiting for her, snuggled in to watch.

~*~*~*~*~*~

Poppy watched the credits roll, a soft, content smile on her face as she leaned on Branch's shoulder. He had come over and watched the last few minutes with her which had made her glad. She twisted her head to look up at him, arm wrapping around his in a show of thanks and affection as she thanked him. While she still didn't feel better, she was starting to feel less sad.

“Not a problem,” He answered her, not bothering to remove his arm as he watched the credits. He glanced at her from the corner of his eye before asking, “Want to watch anything else?”

Poppy thought for a moment before nodding, “Yeah, I think I do.”

Branch moved then, getting up the switch movies, “Any requests?”

“Hercules, please.”

The blue haired man nodded and loaded in the movie, joining the pinkette back on the couch before pressing play. She snuggled back into his shoulder, arm wrapping around his again and happily waited as the movie started, all while the storm raged on.

When Poppy awoke later on, she knew it was later in the night; or early in the morning; and the storm was still going hard, rain and wind rattling the window. The TV was the only light source, casting a dull glow around the living room, the start screen for the movie still showing. She blinked blearily for a moment before realizing she was warm and that her pillow was moving. Glancing upwards, she found Branch sleeping soundly and that she was cuddled into his chest. Smiling, she shifted slightly before crossing her arms and resting her head on them, watching her roommate sleep.

He was the absolute sweetest, even if he didn't want to admit it, having done all he did for her when she came home wet and upset. Grabbing towels quickly for her and drying her off, making her hot chocolate, watching her favorite movies with her until they fell asleep in the couch, it was everything she hadn't known she'd wanted to be done. Sighing softly, feeling content and safe in his arms, Poppy was happy to fall back asleep but not before carefully leaning up and softly kissed his cheek and whispering, “Thank you.”

She then happily snuggled back down, sighing blissfully as Branch unconsciously hugged her tighter to him.

Morning came and with it's dull, gray light filtering into the apartment, woke the two on the couch. Poppy's eyes fluttered open before she yawned, noticing the storm had passed and was now just a steady pitter-padder of rain. She rubbed at her eyes as Branch shifted beneath her and let out a large yawn himself. He groaned slightly, not bothering to open his eyes and tried to sink farther down into the cushions.

“We've got to stop falling asleep on the couch...” He mumbled, uncaring that his arms were still wrapped around Poppy's waist.

The pinkette giggled sleepily, gazing up at him, “Want some coffee?” After Branch hummed his affirmation, she shifted to get up, placing her hands beside his head as she hovered above him.

Branch opened his eyes then to look up at her with a drowsy expression, “Hey...You feel better?”

“Yeah...” She answered quietly.

He smiled then, something small and sleepy, before unconsciously raising a hand to tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, “Good...Like seeing you happy...Suits you.”

Another soft giggle and Poppy gently nuzzled her cheek into his hand where it rested, “It suits you too.”

Branch snorted before letting his hand fall away and his head lull backwards, grunting, “Coffee.”

Poppy giggled once again and got up, letting her hands trail through his hair as she walked away to start the coffee machine. Humming the tune to 'I See The Light' softly, she filled it with some of their shared favorite brand before turning back to see if he had sat up, only to find he had instead fallen back asleep. Watching the steady rise and fall of his torso, Poppy decided to let him sleep a little longer, it was the least she could do after all he'd done for her. She would always be thankful for that and for having such a caring best friend.

And Creek's a real creep not even texting to say he's not showing up but that was all planned and we're getting really close to the climax of this fic! I can't tell you how excited I am for that!!! I've been waiting to write these next few parts since January!!!

I solved Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD/Seasonal Depression) so you don't have to. 9 easy proven steps

Summer is winding down. Despite the ponderosa, we’ve had some great fun and enjoyed living in a way that felt like it might never happen again. But that means Moody Emo Spooky Libra Sweater Weather Season is right around the corner!

While I love spooky season, it also signals the start of my annual decline into a depressive episode that lasts until somewhere near the spring equinox. Some people call it seasonal affective disorder (SAD); I call it hell. Though it is torturous to live like a zombie for 6 months a year, I’ve found ways to make my ride down the river Styx a lot more comfortable.

For example, our Fall releases are usually our best of the year because it matters more than any other time of the year. These creations are more than just new stuff to sell, they're a reason for us to take care of ourselves, remain sensual, creative, continue our rituals, and honestly stay alive.

But that’s just one part of this 1100-word article on beating seasonal affective disorder aka SAD aka Seasonal Depression aka the Fall fall. Since I personally deal with this shit, I’ve learned a ton to make this crappy season feel a lot better and I’m as excited as I can be to share them with you all!

Change your meds

"Treat yourself like a child or wild animal in a zoo. Plan activities or even just new stimulation for yourself. " -- Jerome

The change in seasons causes a change in brain chemistry. Even if your meds had been working previously, now might be the perfect time to increase your dose, add a helper or take a break. If you’re not on meds, it might be a good idea to think about. Talk to your doctor and see if there’s something you can try.

8 years ago, around my birthday, I started taking anti-depressants for the first time - Wellbutrin 100mg daily. A couple years later, I asked for a switch to something different and she added Zoloft 50mg daily. Which helped me regain my sense of optimism, creativity, and imagination. It’s been a long time; I’m glad to have them back.

Invest in a 5500k or higher lightbulb

Light therapy has been a great treatment for SAD and major depression for people closer to the poles for a long time. Light boxes are an easy but kind of expensive option – cheap ones start at $50. Whereas you could install an outlet timer and fluorescent bulb over your head to wake you up with a burst of “sunlight” every morning for about $25. You could also spend less than $10 and buy a specialty CFL (compact fluorescent) or a LED equivalent bulb that’ll fit in any standard outlet.

Keep busy, be useful

Because I like projects and fall on the frugal side, I prefer the DIY options for the tip above. Even if you have the cash for a light box, it’s always a great idea to aid your sense of accomplishment with a series of short projects or a long-term hobby. Although I have found some types of tasks, projects and hobbies work better than others.

For my depression, getting a useful hobby with measurable results has been a life and mind saver. Having something to care for, watching something grow, getting better at something, these things keep me connected to the world and people around me.

Give yourself a break

My depression feels like nothing, and everything is happening at once. The result is an exhausting mixture of behavior that is at times frantic, tense or eerily still – sometimes all at once. A bitch gets tired from time to time and when that happens, I give myself the time to rest up, even if that means sleeping for 24 hours straight.

Even under ideal brain conditions, rest is necessary. Autumnal depression or SAD has a way of zapping our energy like nothing else. It’s important to know when it’s time to rest. You’re not a failure for needing a nap or some solo Netflix and chill time.

Get stimulated

Now, I’m not a doctor or an expert on this. So, this is just some personal experience, not advice.

For me, the morning is a crucial time. If I can find a way to just start my mind right when I get out of bed, I can usually rev up to a functional level of energy; if not, I’m fucked. Previously, I fixed that with some not so legally acquired Adderall, but it raised my blood pressure too high. Now I start my day with a cup of coffee or two.

There’s something in the getting up and doing a useful thing plus ingestion of a stimulant that really seems to help me. I also like smoking cigarettes for the same reason. If you don’t like coffee but do like cannabis and tobacco, a spliff with a tobacco and a strong, energizing sativa might be a great option.

Novelty & Enrichment

Treat yourself like a child or wild animal in a zoo. Plan activities or even just new stimulation for yourself. Change up what shows you're watching, what you're wearing, the fragrances of butters you're wearing, the bath bombs you're using, the color of the light in your room, reorganize your space, change what you're eating, and who you’re fucking.

Maybe also trying some new things, even something you might think of as traditional and boring. Something like playing cards, board games, drawing, painting, taking a dance class, bingo, or working out.

Exercise

Look I understand that you already know this is a fact and if you want it to work out, you'd be working out already. So, this is going to be a very short section. But just know that exercise will make you feel better, moving on.

Stay away from downers

Whether it’s joy sucking people or intoxicants, it’s important to minimize the things that are zapping your energy and spirit. If you’re a weed smoker, stay away from indicas as they will make you sleepy. If you’re on SSRIs ask your doctor if adding a stimulant to your meds might help. If you’ve got a case of the fake people, say goodbye, goodbye to all the fake people your life.

Be selfish

Being selfish gets a bad rap. Usually, though, selfishness is actually healthy. We often overexert ourselves trying to be there for everyone. We need to spend more time being there for ourselves. Selflessness and sacrifice are valuable features in martyr, but martyrs die and you’re trying to live. Be a little selfish, sacrifice less of your soul and you’ll have a greater ability to lift yourself, which, funny enough, will still help to lift others.

Cutie Reviews: NMNL April 20

Okay, so something’s wrong with my front page picture. Instead, we’ll change things up a teensy bit, and I’ll make the front image the April Glam Gift set.

So as you saw above, our GG for this month was based around Witch’s Pouch, a brand that happens to stay classy with a touch of cute whimsy. The products are a variety of cosmetics and some extra useful items, such as primer and cleansing pads.

Pores Clear Pack Peel Off & Foot and Heel Peeling Mask

Our first two items are peeling packs, but for different parts of the body. First, we’ll begin with the pore pack, which comes from the brand Porez. It’s applied directly from the bottle and is made from Moroccan lava clay and charcoal to absorb pore impurities while cleaning the nose.

Honestly I’m not sure if it really does much, other then help pull up some more loose/dry/flaky skin from my nose. It always feels nice after I apply some facial product though. It has a strong scent, I’m not really sure how to describe it.

It goes on pretty easy but until you get the hang of it, you can expect it to be a little blotchy, and if you’re not careful you could have a wet layer beneath a dry layer, rather then satisfyingly removing it all at once. The hole it comes out of can also be kind of messy, but it’s easy to clean up.

I was super-excited for this next item :D we don’t get foot peeling packs very often (in fact it’s been like 2 years since I did it last, if not longer).

This one features a little cute panda motif and is made from natural extracts of fruits and herb. What makes this pack fun is that not only do you apply the product to the socks yourself, but they include cute paw print sticker/tape strips to help hold them on.

Alright, so it’s only been about 3 days since I used them. The description says it takes anywhere from 4-6 days before the skin begins to peel, so I’m not going to be rating this one yet. I’ll have an update on it when something starts to happen in a future post. But for now I’ll say it smells wonderful prior to putting it on, right after removing it, the scent is still there but there was also a very strong alcohol scent overtaking it. It really irritated my nose DX

Mediheal Hair Sheep Steam Pack

I was also really excited for this one, simply because a few Youtubers I watch have tried it out. It’s always kind of fun to get a product you recognize :3

This product promises to leave your hair feeling silky and shiny after use, and it “heats up“ to help repair damage like split ends, and frizzy dryness. It contains items such as goat milk and hydrolyzed collagen.

So... I have mixed feelings about this one. It’s really cute and sounds kinda fun, it also has a decent scent. But I really don’t think it actually did anything for me (but to be fair, it’s about a year old, that could be why?), and it kind of felt like an inconvenience. After you wash your hair you have to towel dry it, then put this on for so long, and rinse it out. My dad of all people had to help me put it on too, because I was having trouble keeping it open (product is inside of it) and hold my hair up.

Animal Beating Net

Next up is this ultra-cute looking sponge that comes shaped as a froggy, bear, fish, or ducky! It also includes a small mesh-ish net that you put the little sponge into and wet, then you apply a facial cleaner or soap to foam it up nice and good. This was made to increase the foam/lather while cutting down on how much product gets used.

It’s silly but I hesitated a little to open the package; it’s so cute looking, I didn’t want to ruin it... but I did, and I set my little froggy free.

Initially, I didn’t really think much of it, but the more I was using it the more fun I found it to be. It’s so cute, and yeah you have to clean it up afterwards, but that’s besides the point. You get a good amount of lather, and you can keep re-foaming it with a bit more water if you need more.

Arm Massager

This item comes from the brand Tsubosh. It’s available in this really light pinkish color or white. You roll it around the shoulder or wrist to loosen the joints and pressure points.

I wasn’t really sure if this was doing anything honestly. But because of my stiffened joints and aches as of late, I feel like it’s been helping that a little bit. My mom (who is still bedridden, but she’s capable of standing and using crutches now, and she can walk a teensy bit) really likes it too, and she’s been using it as a make-shift weight to lift.

Tinted Lip Balm, Bubble Lip Pack, & Heart Blossom Blush

I really didn’t need to cram all 3 of these into one picture, but I don’t hate it.

First we’ll begin with the blusher, which comes from one of my favorite brands, Etude House. This is a limited edition for spring, featuring a cute heart-shaped window and flowers etched into the blush. It’s soft with a faint shimmer, and was available in two colors: Attracted Love or Unrelenting Spring.

At least the booklet says. Mine is listed as the color Just Clicked on the box it came in. It’s a sort of... coral-ish color.

Well it gets high cuteness points. It’s also really pretty, and the container it came in makes me feel so fancy~

The color itself sort of worried me, given how orangey it looks. But when I applied it on my cheek, I noticed it’s not nearly as pigmented as it was on my fingers (you’re supposed to use a brush or puff or something but I didn’t have one nearby), so it sort of just added a natural looking glow to my cheeks.

This cute little lip pack comes from Choosy, a well-known lip-based brand that we’ve seen countless of times within these cosmetic boxes. This was really fun, it was just like using one of those foaming face masks, but on your lips, and it has a lovely mint scent!

I really, really like this. It’s not a long-term product as far as I can tell, but it’s really fun to use and it smells so good. My lips feel refreshed after using it, especially when you apply a little bit of lip balm afterwards.

Also, I’m not really sure but I think you can use this multiple times. You can’t reseal it, but you get so much product, I can’t imagine using it all at once. It only takes a little swipe to fully cover my lips. Even days later, it’s still fresh and works fine.

Our final item and probably my most favorite of the bunch is this kawaii Pokemon heart-shaped lip product from IT’S DEMO. I like this brand too, although I don’t see it nearly as much as some others.

Each tin has it’s own flavor and color, and feature unique Pichu/Pikachu themed artwork. There was:

I love love LOVE this! It smells amazing, and it’s so ultra-cute ♥

However, I don’t know if it’s because it was sitting around for a year or what, but mine seems to have a “jellied lip balm film“ over it. I’ve never really seen anything like it before. Also, the lid is fairly loose. It rests on the tin well enough, but if you hold the lid, it slides off. Depending on the angle, it seems to stay on slightly longer, but other times it comes right off. Only if you hold it by the lid though, it doesn’t randomly pop up if you’re not touching it or anything.

I wish I could get the other three still~

Content - 5 out of 5. I liked everything, it was very fun and cute. There are a couple of things I think I may have liked a bit more in our previous box, but I like this one about the same. Even that sheep steam pack that seems not to have worked at all; as I said it could be my fault for not using it sooner. I’m super-excited for the foot peeling to begin!

Theme: 5 out of 5. I suppose? I’m not entirely sure how to judge this one, but it’s all stuff you can use in the home.

Total Rank: 9 out of 10. Everything worked, maybe not to the extent of what was guaranteed, but I still liked it all. The theme wasn’t all that special or anything, but it wasn’t a bad idea either. Everyone should be allowed to feel beautiful inside and out, in the house or outdoors.

For now, that concludes this review :3 I just got my Gacha Gacha crate while I was working on this, and I’m planning on getting it done tomorrow. So until then, stay cute!

of course ! here are some of our own ideas, things that we like to do to make the distance not feel so painful in our own ldr ::

gifts, since you mentioned making a drawing ;

a drawing -

a drawing as you mentioned is a great idea, you could draw her, or the two of you together, or something she really likes - you know her better than i do, i’m sure you could find the perfect drawing idea that she would love and it would mean a lot to her because you made it yourself just for her !

a card or a letter -

if it’s a card you can decorate the front of it as well, and you can write all about your feelings for her, there are plenty of things to write about ! a good way to write a long letter is to focus on a broad topic - i actually *don’t* recommend just writing about how much you love her because what i find is that you just want to say “a lot” in 20 different ways, and what else is there to say other than that ? of course you can make it sound beautiful and poetic, but i personally recommend it more for something shorter, like the card.

for a letter, topics that i find are easy to go on and on about are things such as : reminiscence about how the two of you met, talk about how and who you were just before, what your first impression of her was, how she may have changed you as a person, and how glad you are to have met her, and describe to her your entire thought process during all of this ! everything that you’ve ever thought about her. let her see from your eyes how you fell in love with her.

another topic could be imagining your future together. start from the day you or her get on that final one way flight (i’m assuming you’re a flight away, sorry if it’s not quite that far !) tell her a story about how you/her will go through the airport, the nerves yet excitement you will feel, how you will meet each other and how emotional you will be, and how you will start your new life. then you can go big and describe things that you wish to do together someday, from domestic things like cooking breakfast for each other to big things like travelling the world together. describe to her the amazing future you’re going to have with her.

bath bombs -

i’ve always thought bath bombs were a super fun gift, so of course i always send ruby plenty ! it actually started about a month or so after we first started dating, she’d mentioned that she had never tried a bath bomb before so i was like, “excuse me what. no i’m going to make you Experience this. i’m ordering you some right now.” if the one you’re looking for a gift for has never tried them, i definitely think they would find it super fun ! and even if your girlfriend has, they’re still a lovely gift. they allow her to relax in a nice warm bath, with beautiful colours and smells, and just take care of herself and feel at peace.

a project -

homemade gifts are always super special. don’t ever feel like you have to spend money and it means less if you can only make something yourself, it doesn’t ! homemade gifts come from the heart and it shows the person that you put a lot of time, energy, and creativity into them. not to sound like a mom, but i love looking on pinterest for project ideas. you can see so many creative diy projects that your girlfriend will love ! some ideas to get you started are :

a 365 note jar : give her a little note to read every single day for a year, and decorate the jar to be adorable. you can also decide what you want the notes to be of, if you don’t want to make them as they are in the image, you can choose something else, such as 365 reasons why you love her, which is actually what i made ruby for her christmas present !!

a playlist : this idea’s more well known, but it’s adorable and lets you tell her how you feel through songs that make you think of her ! you can burn it onto a cd for her to be a little more old-fashioned (i think old-fashioned things like that are adorable) and even do some doodles on it.

i love you because… : a simple set of little messages you can use to make her feel loved and cherished.

open when… letters : personally i really love this idea and would love to do it one day, and i know ruby’s been working on one for me ! write her a set of letters to read whenever she needs them!

activities for when you’re in a ldr ;

a website that allows you to share a computer screen and both interact with it, so you can watch movies or youtube together, or go on any website. you can use voice and video call, or simple text chat, while doing so.

play a game together -

ruby and i love going on animal crossing or minecraft dates ! in fact for this valentine’s day we are planning to visit a working amusement park world that she found in minecraft, so we can go on rollercoasters and stuff c’: if you have any multiplayer game that you both love, it’s fun to voice call while playing !

watch the other play a game -

if you have a fun single player game and the other person doesn’t mind watching, you can call on skype and one person can play while sharing their computer screen and game sounds on skype, for the other to watch. ruby and i love doing this with sims 4, in her game we have just the two of us living in our own apartment, and in my game i’ve been building my irl house and family, and herself as well, so we could have her in my actual house ‘visiting’ me, before the day that she actually does (soon) !!

draw together -

if you can draw digitally, there are websites where you can both draw in real time, and complete a drawing together ! this site is my favourite, and we had a lot of fun drawing together on it. we drew the first two OCs we’ve ever made together, which, designing couple characters is also a super fun activity to do together.

Prompt: I had the idea for dyed cheese balls to look like bath bombs (cause Jared love the cronch) and it kind of evolved into this mess. If you want read some background on your relationship HERE are some headcanons about how you met and why ‘cronch’ is significant

Fandom: Dear Evan Hansen

Pairing: Jared Kleinman X Reader

Summary: You decide to surprise your boyfriend with a party that is entirely dedicated to him and his meme-ness.

Word Count: 2,046

Warnings: Food, memes? Probably cursing?

A/N: Okay so I had this idea and then lost momentum, but then the headcanons I wrote about ‘the cronch’ (here) gave me inspiration again, so here you go. This is further into your relationship and you want to surprise Jared. I do not own the idea of Jared loving bath bombs nor do I know the context it was created, I kind of just winged it. I also don’t know if Jared has a canon birthday or if the time frame works with it, but I’m just going to pretend it does for the sake of the fic.

“Evan! I need your help,” you said as you approached him in the hall, his locker door open. If you were going to get everything done before the special day, you knew you were going to need Evan’s help. Not to mention that he would probably want in on planning this surprise anyway.

“Uh… S-sure? What d-do you need m-me f-f-for?” You could see the anxiety on his face and rushed to explain what you meant.

“It’s nothing bad, I promise. I want to plan a surprise for Jared’s birthday, and I was hoping you could help me with some ideas or something. Since you two are best friends, you probably know the most about him.”

“Give yourself s-some credit, (Y/N). You’ve been dating Jared for how long? I’m sure you could do it by yourself, easy.” Evan shuts his locker, and adjusts his backpack.

“But planning parties by yourself isn’t any fun, plus I know how handy you are when it comes to DIY’s and baking. I’m going to need those hands of your Hansen.”

“For nothing sinister, I hope.” You whirl around to find that Jared has walked up behind you. Plastering a smile on your face, and giving him a quick kiss on the cheek, he lets out a chuckle. “What are you two nerds planning?”

“Just some project for our history class. We get bonus points if it’s 3-D and I know how creative Evan is, so I was hoping to employ his talents,” you reply, with a pointed look at Evan. He nods along when Jared looks to him for confirmation.

“Okay, nerds. While you two are talking about school, I’m going to be getting lunch and drowning myself in pudding as a reward for my B in English. I’ll see you later.” With a kiss on your cheek, he heads towards the cafeteria. Letting out a sigh of relief, you turn back to Evan.

“So, will you help me?” you ask, hopeful.

“Yeah, but I really don’t know what we’re going to do… I mean, what would a party for Jared look like?”

After a moment of contemplation, you both answer at the same time, “Memes.”

Smiling with giddy, you grab Evan’s arm and give it a squeeze. “I’m so excited. I already have a few ideas, can you come over some time this week to get organized?”

Evan nods and you give him a quick hug before heading to the cafeteria to find your boyfriend. You knew it would probably be hard to keep it from Jared, but that wasn’t going to stop you from trying. Keeping yourself composed, a week goes by before Jared asks you if anything’s wrong. You assure him you’re fine, just a little stressed over the history project, and he lets it go.

After two more weeks go by, you find yourself spending more time at Evan’s house working on decorations with the silly internet photos. You try out different recipes for gag snacks, and wrap your gifts with comically relatable paper. You actually kind of get into it a little more than you probably should have, but you wanted it to be perfect.

You put all your effort into it, even if that meant cancelling on Jared a couple times. It was all for him anyway, so after he found out, you were sure he would understand once he saw how much work you put into keeping it a surprise. Jared was a little suspicious about how much time you were spending with Evan, but he knew that you would want to try your best since the project seemed to be important.

The day had finally arrived. You had been planning with Evan for almost a month, and now it was either going to all pay off or all crash and burn. Jared’s birthday was today, and you had wanted to give him the best day you could, since it was the big number 18. He was going to be an adult. Although a scary thought, you knew that you needed to do something special, hence all the work that went into this.

You greeted Jared in the morning with a kiss and a small gift, which also acted as foreshadowing for what was to come. He tore off the normal paper to reveal a pocket copy of the Meme Bible. He let out a small smile and chuckle, before drawing you into a hug and kissing the top of your head.

Taking his hand, you give it a squeeze and peck him on the cheek before heading to first period. When lunch rolls around you sit with everybody and let them know about the party that will be at Evan’s house and decide whose responsibility it will be to get him there. Everyone seems excited, but you hush them when you see man in question making his way over to the table.

Smiling at him as he takes his seat next to you, he grabs your hand before easing into the conversation. About a quarter of the way through lunch Evan leaves so he can start to get stuff ready, but before lunch ends Evan is sending you quite a few texts in a panic over the cake. When you keep checking your phone Jared starts to get suspicious, and is ready to really start questioning you when you leave, but everyone holds him back from going after you.

Arriving at Evan’s house you find him pacing in the kitchen. You lead him through a few deep breath exercises before he calmly explains that the cake he baked last night has shrunk and that the cookies were rock hard. He started rambling about how he made it, going over everything which ultimately led him to start panicking again. Calming him down again, you say that you can just make another cake and no cookies are always an option.

“And if all else fails, we can always go buy one at the store, right? With all of the decorations we made, a store bought cake isn’t going to ruin the party.” Evan sniffles, and nods collecting himself some more. You give him a hug and rub his back a little before pulling away and saying with a confident smile, “Now, what do you need me to do, chef?”

Evan gives you directions and soon enough you have another cake in the oven and have started on the cookie dough. You decide to change the plan a little since you ran out of chocolate chips, and added M&M’s instead. As you lay out the cookies, you get a text from Jared wondering if you want to skip the rest of the day to spend with him.

You think on your toes and say that you weren’t feeling good and went home, apologizing that you couldn’t spend his birthday with him. Jared knew you weren’t telling the truth, but he wasn’t sure how to call you out on it. As the day continued, the voice in Jared’s head continued to point out his flaws and poke at his insecurities. By the end of the day, he wasn’t in the mood to celebrate or see you with how bleak his thoughts were.

When Connor asked for a lift to Evan’s house Jared reluctantly agreed. However, as Jared pulls up to the Hansen house and sees your car in his driveway, Jared’s somber mood turned to anger. He gets out of the car and storms through the unlocked door without so much as a knock. But when he sees the state of the house he freezes.

You turn around at the sound of the door opening and stop at the sight of Jared. Connor steps in after him with a sheepish look on his face. “Connor! You were supposed to text us when you were in front of the house!” you say exasperated.

Jared is still struck still, just staring at all the things that were there. “Sorry, he just bolted out of the car, and I didn’t want to tackle him since it is his birthday.”

You nod your head and move in front of Jared. His eyes finally move from surveying his surroundings to you, and you grab his hands before quietly saying, “Surprise Boi!” Jared still hasn’t said anything and you start to get a little nervous. “Jared?” you ask, hoping he’ll do something.

The next thing you know, and his lips are on yours. Caught off guard you eventually melt into the kiss, until you hear quiet giggling. Quickly pulling away you’re me with Zoe and Alana standing in the entryway looking at you and Jared affectionately. Connor has made his way over to the snack table that Evan just finished setting up. He’s standing next to it, avoiding your eyes with tinted cheeks.

You smile and hide yourself in Jared’s neck. The girls make their way to the snack table too, and you pull away to look your boyfriend in the eye. What you see is pure adoration and you kiss him again, unable to stop yourself from reciprocating.

Jared squeezes your hand and pulls away one last time. “I take it that your project on the history of internet culture went well,” he teases. You give him a light shove before pulling him over to the food table. His eyes light up at all the snacks. From minion decorated marshmallows, to poop emoji cookies. But his eyes are immediately drawn to the multi-colored balls in a bowl.

“Are those…?” he asks, and you nod your head. He bursts out laughing and everyone rolls their eyes at him. When he can speak again he’s able to choke out, “I can finally enjoy the cronch,” before losing himself in another fit of laughter at the dyed cheeseballs. As he tries to recover, you head into the kitchen and grab the cake, lighting the candles.

You carefully maneuver back to where everyone is. When you have everyone’s attention you start to quietly sing ‘Happy Birthday’, with the others joining in. You can tell that everyone is happy to be there when they finish it off with a ‘Happy birthday dear, insanely cool Jared Kleinman. Happy birthday to you’.

As Jared blows out the candles and takes in the majesty of the Pepe cake he can’t help but shake his head as his friends cheer for him. He gives you another kiss as you cut him a slice and lets out a triumphant whoop as he takes his first bite into adulthood.

After everyone eats, you play some games and take some silly photos. Soon enough, the night is coming to an end and you help Evan clean up his house as Jared watches some TV upon your insistence that the birthday boy should not have to pick up his own party. Once everything is put away, you and Jared say goodbye to Evan as you head out the door.

Standing next to your car, Jared holds your hand and gives you another kiss. “Next time you want to plan a surprise though, please let me know about it,” he whispers to you.

“That’s the point of a surprise Jared. You aren’t supposed to expect it.”

“Maybe, but at least plan it with Zoe or Alana so I don’t get unnecessarily jealous of Hansen.”

“You were jealous of Evan?” you ask in exasperation. You get your answer as he shyly looks away. You shake your head at him before pulling him into a long kiss. “I promise that next time I plan anything for you, I won’t put it ahead of you, and that if anyone helps me with it they’ll wear a paper bag over their head.”

He lets out a chuckle. “Well I think that you should be the one with the bag, I mean your good looks are the thing that gets you into trouble.” Giving him a little shove, he chuckles before pulling you into his embrace. Snuggling into him, he kisses the top of your head. “But, seriously. Thank you for a great birthday.”

“No problem, my insanely cool boyfriend. Sorry the surprise wasn’t all that great though.”

“Are you kidding? That was the best Surprise Boi ever and there’s nothing you can say to convince me otherwise.”

Lately I've been losing motivation to do anything. And I've been feeling so lazy, worthless, and I'm so stressed out. Like I feel I cant and won't do anything right. Finals are next week and I have late work from some of my classes. Any advice?

I don’t understand why, but stress makes people loose a lot of their motivation. Forget about “getting work done”, the second I feel stressed I start binge watch crime dramas. Science Side of Tumblr please explain.

My advice to you is to take a little bit of time to relax. I know this may seem counterproductive, but you’re not going to be able to get the work you need to do done if you stay stressed. Spend some time taking care of yourself, and then take care of everything else!

Stress Relief

1. Take A Bath. Baths are my go to stress reliever (I like to watch my crime dramas while submerged). Use whatever you already have lying around:

Bath bombs

Bubble bath

Tea candles

Incense

Bath salts

2. Spa Day. There is nothing that I love more than a low-budget Spa Day. It’s so important to take care of your skin- it’s the largest organ in your body.

Mud mask

DIY face mask

Exfoliation (ya’ll should be exfoliating at least once a week)

Body lotion

Essential oils

Deep conditioning mask

Nail polish

3. Day Trip. It’s so hard to get away, especially when you’re trying to plan a long trip with friends and/or family. Treat yourself to a day trip solo or with a few close friends. Day trips don’t have to be big occasions! They can be as simple as driving a few towns over and getting food and seeing a movie. Here are some ideas:

Hiking

Biking

Road trip

Picnic at a destination

Visiting a museum/planetarium/aquarium

Shopping at a speciality shop

Visiting a friend who lives a couple hours way

4. DIY/Home Repairs. An easy way to feel productive is to do some simple housework. This can be anything from straight up cleaning to simple DIY repairs.

Hang the poster you bought three months ago

Clean out your closet and donate to your local shelter

Weed your garden

Bake an apple pie

Sort through your old paperwork

Groom your pets

Mop your kitchen while listening to the Broadway station

Tighten any loose screws in wooden furniture
