merlin who uses his magic everyday in ways that he doesn’t realize isn’t normal. magic helping him see in the dark so he can find his way in the woods or dark rooms with no problem. connecting with the woods around him so he always knows where he is and whats in the general vicinity which allows him to sense bandits just before they attack. using magic to keep warm in the cold or to cool down in the heat. confident and willing to go toe to toe with anyone bc he knows that regardless of what they throw at him, he could always win bc he could just use magic.

then somehow someway (post magic reveal) a sorcerer takes away merlin’s magic. or well just locks it away ig. but anyways merlin doesn’t have this part of him anymore and is left feeling empty, exposed, and vulnerable. arthur, the knights, and merlin going on a quest for answers to their problem and a way to get merlins magic back. but. but. but merlin is all jumpy and he’s rambling more than ever and is often reaching out to grab onto someone (usually arthur) and everyone’s confused and then they get ambushed and merlin freezes in the middle of the path like a deer. he’s watching everything go down around him with wide eyes until he’s targeted and one of the knights have to rush in to save him. afterward merlin is constantly holding someone and his grip is rather tight. he keeps looking around, his eyes scanning the trees around them over and over. when they try and settle down for the night, merlin wont leave the camp without an escort or two and when they’re trying to go to sleep, merlin is flinching at every noise in the woods around them and ends up shuffling over toward the person closest to him and laying pressed up against them.

arthur opening his mouth to tease and call him a coward when the word registers in his mind and he realizes that that’s what he’s actually seeing, merlin scared and defenseless. he ofc doesn’t realize the true depth of it all, i mean he knows merlin is missing his magic but he doesn't know that magic has always been a part of merlin, it makes him him. he’s had magic since he was born, he’s never known life without it. as he is now, he feels bare and exposed and blind and deaf and terrified. the knights are his defense rn and for the past few years, merlins been their protector so its a complete reversal of everything he’s ever known. he’s scared. arthur bites his tongue and lets merlin hold onto his arm and snuggle up close at night for some form of comfort and security. he doesn’t tease or mock and responds to his ramblings of fear with a level of gentleness the knights weren’t aware he even possessed. merlin slowly relaxing as arthur subtly comforts him without addressing it

Currently imagining Arthur + Gwen + the knights asking someone (maybe druids?) who this famous "Emrys" is and they proceed to do a version of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" while Arthur, Gwen and the knights grow increasingly more distressed with each line and Merlin hyperventilates in the background

Took me three hours to find a fanfic where the main character has any other emotion outside of bone-crushing fear for the other characters to sympathize over

POV: You agreed to spar with Lae'zel

Arthur&Lae'zel thoughts: Lae'zel is Arthur's best friend. They don't talk much, and when they do it's really mostly about battle strategies. He feels very comfortable being around her because having no memories makes him like a fish out of water, and she makes him feel not so afraid to make awkward social gaffes around her because she also doesn't understand the world she's landed in! (He really really really relates to her when she mispronounced Faerun 🥺) Their friendship becomes really deep when he comes more clean about his urges and she offers to train with him to help him control his urges in battle. Also, because he is someone who lies so much and has such a fractured sense of identity, having a friend who doesn't lie to him, doesn't pay meaningless compliments, and believes in his inner strength and ability to overcome the obstacles he faces is extremely important to him and his journey. She's ultimately the person who stops him from becoming the absolute - he can't bring himself to betray Lae'zel in such a significant way. On the flip side, I think Arthur forces Lae'zel to re-examine her own motivations and convictions. He's a walking liability: he lies constantly, and is not in control of his actions, and is actively seeking dominance of the netherbrain she needs to destroy for githyanki freedom. I like to think the night Arthur tries to kill Astarion at last light, she realizes the Smart and Correct thing for a githyanki warrior to do would be to dispatch of him, but she does not, and it really starts to make her view her relationships with people in a new way.

AU where Arthur comes back after 1,500 years and Merlin thinks Excalibur sword is very outdated at this point. It is 21st Century and unsurprisingly sword is not the best choice of weapons, magic or not.

So, Merlin creates him lots of new weapons, and soon discovers that Arthur masters everything fast and is ridiculously good at adapting everything to fight. Because if Merlin is the greatest Warlock to ever walk on earth, then Arthur is the greatest Warrior ever to exist.

So, at one point Merlin is just having SO MUCH FUN discovering Arthur’s very OP warrior skill because this man can make everything he holds a legendary weapon.

Who’s top, switch and bottom (or multiple choices)

I can’t believe I’m answering this but:

John’s a top (in theory, he’ll get there someday once he gets a body), Noel’s a switch with top tendencies, Arthur’s also a switch but with bottom tendencies, and Oscar is a bottom at heart but it takes him a while to actually come to terms with that (although. I think he should get to top sometimes as a treat (for me))
