So I have a carousel gumball machine, and I think it'd be really fun to put it to use this halloween.
Y'know set it to free vending, fill it with like m&ms, skittles or something, get little dixie cups or baggies the kids can put their candy in. A fun spin on handing out candy.
Thing is, coin mechanism is sticking like crazy and I have no idea how to clean it or repair it if some internal mechanism is worn down.
Like I can get it to turn, but it takes a lot of force and struggling, and it honestly turns the easiest when I just take it fully out of the machine.
Also I got to clean the inside where the candy sits because whoever owned it before me must have just let gumballs like melt in there at some point, because there's old gum residue on various parts of the inside that I gotta scrub off.
So advice on both what to do to make the handle turn better, and what I should use to clean the old gum residue off the inside of it with that's food safe.

It's time for another adventure of Verden, the Green Gummy Bear!
When we last left our hero, Verden had successfully helped to overthrow the Great Green Merciless Emperor, only one short day after defecting from the Emperor's Royal Guard. Now, eight years later, Verden has worked tirelessly to atone for the atrocities he helped commit in the name of the Emperor.
"A new danger now threatens to overtake us." Verden tells the assembled bears. "It could destroy the peace we've worked so hard to maintain these last eight years."
Tumblr media
"Mecha-Bot the Destroyer has taken up residence atop the Gumball Dispenser." Verden explains. "From that vantage point, he can blast anyone and anything in our kingdom with ease."
Tumblr media
"We will gain access to the Gumball Dispenser via the Tower of Yellow to the East. From there we will ambush Mecha-Bot and neutralize this threat to our land. It's a daunting task."
Tumblr media
"Fortunately," the former guardsman continues. "We've got some very powerful allies on our side. This is Agent Carter, and my psychiatrist, Dr. Indigo Dragonstein."
Tumblr media
"There's no one better to help us in our struggle."
Tumblr media
Late that night, under cover of darkness, Verden, Agent Carter, and Dr. Dragonstein approach the Tower of Yellow, and prepare to infiltrate.
Tumblr media
Their path is blocked by Charmander, who demands to know why they have come.
Tumblr media
Verden puts on his best diplomatic voice, first cultivated during his time with the Emperor's Royal Guard, and refined over the years during his service as an Agent of SHIELD. "We are here to fight an enemy who threatens all of us, including the residents of the Tower of Yellow."
Tumblr media
"Oh, you mean Mecha-Bot?" Charmander says. "Yeah, that guy's a dick. By all means, have at it."
Tumblr media
As the sun rises over their shared kingdoms, the small team of heroes ascends the Tower of Yellow and prepares for their confrontation with the enemy.
Tumblr media
"Mecha-Bot!" Verden calls out as Dr. Dragonstein flies him close to the automaton's perch—
Tumblr media
"—wait," Verden says to his shrink. "If you can fly, then what was even the purpose of infiltrating the tower?"
Tumblr media
"For the drama," Dr. Dragonstein says gleefully.
Tumblr media
"Whatever." Verden returns his focus to the robot atop the Gumball Dispenser. "Mecha-Bot, we have come here to—"
"It's no use, Gummy Bear!" Mecha-Bot taunts him. "I shall never alight from my perch! I shall blast everything within my sight and I—waugghhhh!"
Tumblr media
And just like that, Mecha-Bot slips from his precarious perch and crashes to the ground.
Tumblr media
"Well that was rather anticlimactic," Agent Carter says. "I didn't even get to throw a punch."
Tumblr media
Verden looks down upon the wreckage of the once-great robot. "We could have resolved this peacefully," he says with a sigh. ".....after Agent Carter landed a few punches, of course."
Tumblr media
Back home, Verden lays on the psychiatrist's couch. "I don't know, Doc, it kind of feels like we didn't really do anything."
"But nevertheless, our kingdom is safe," Dr. Dragonstein reminds him. "And our people know that you made the effort to help keep it that way."
Tumblr media
"You're right," Verden agrees, standing. "I guess the only way any of us can go is forward."

A wizard that has their keep hidden in a gumball machine at a grocery store. The machine functions normally when you place a quarter in it, but if you place 25 pennies in it you shrink down and are within the wizard’s mechanized manor, watching the gum balls dispense from below.
Every now and then an annoying child will accidentally complete the ritual, but it’s okay because the wizard just submits them to the torture crucible, extracts part of their essence for future potions and spells, and then erases their memory and gives them a gumball. It’s a pretty quick procedure, so parents usually don’t notice the child going missing for 24-72 hours.

Armchair Psychology Anon (not a real Psych just notice patterns)
I dunno if you've seen the new poster for Brandon's new show, Class Acts? It's actually pretty melancholic and depressing.
The tag line is "its never too late to dig up dead dreams".
"Announcing my next series: He's been teaching how to achieve the dreams he can't, since 2009"
But the tombstones on the poster all reflect his inner fears as an artist/actor.
"Be taken seriously" "act better" "teach theater" "be a star" "be respected" "win an oscar" "make money" "find fame" "inspire someone" "be on TV" "find love" "make a difference" and so on
He's talked about having these feelings when Seeing Stars came out. Blitz breaking down about being on a show and not taken seriously as an entertainer as a child and an adult are definitely derived from Brandon's real feelings. I think that's why he was uncomfortable with Stolas (didn't he say he based him off his ex at one point?) being in a relationship with his character.
I've also noticed his social media posts aren't very lively. I'm not sure if they used to be, but he just seems very drained/depressed. The only happy posts I've come across are about his dog or family.
Hell, he just wished his friend Trevor Wallace, a happy birthday online. And this is what he said:
"Trevor it is your birthday."
And under the post, someone was kind enough to say: "Still love that you two are buds makes me hope for Trevor to have a guest spot on Helluva Boss"
This made me cringe. I'm sure it makes Brandon cringe as well.
He can never get away from these shows now.
The low views on his og content vs. his HB content must be depressing for him. I don't think he's particularly excited to be voicing Katie either. I think he's just taking a paycheck for it and hopes he can continue to stay relevant.
Viv probably had him do it to get away with saying misogynistic things. I'm very worried about it.
I think he used to do comedy shows around the US, too. I don't think he's done them in awhile? I really think Viv is sucking the life out of him.
I don't know how to feel about Brandon as I obviously don't know him, but his socials do say a lot to me. I can't help but feel like he could also potentially be a bad person (as you never really know anyone through social media), but as an artist myself, I can relate to his struggles.
If his depression is Viv related, then I hope he can find the strength to cut ties with her.
Jesus...that's absolutely fucking heartbreaking.
Whatever's behind Brandon seeming so down lately, people need to let him -- let everyone associated with this show -- breathe and stop treating them like gumball machines that dispense content. I don't care if HH/HB is your favorite thing in life and you think Vivzie is the second coming, let Brandon have a life and a career outside of Helluva Boss.

Checking out a fairly new Arc in Lakewood, CO.
1-2. Gumball machine- the knob turns a disc that can dispense gumballs but I couldn't figure out a way to fill it up, top was kind of jammed on.
3. Dope ass space bookends
4-6. Someone's grandpa gave up their sick stereo system 😔 There's a record player inside too and the plug looked fairly old too.
7. Bat lantern!!

Episode Review: "Fionna Campbell"/"Simon Petrikov" (Fionna & Cake, Eps. 1-2)
If you had told me on the day that Adventure Time was canceled that almost a decade into the future, I would still be writing reviews about new episodes, I would have never believed you. And yet, today saw the release of not one, but two new episodes. (It seems that the fun really will never end!) What a world we live in!
----
When I first heard that Fionna and Cake would be the focus of the newest Adam Muto-produced Adventure Time spin-off, I was a touch apprehensive. It is not that I disliked the characters... I just worried that they might not be able to anchor ten 22-minute episodes. After all, the two were always something of a funny gimmick. Other than explaining if they were real, what more was there to say about them?
My tentative apprehension started to dissipate when I learned that the one, the only Simon Petrikov would play a major part in the miniseries. Simon was always a strong character, and there was much to his story that still needed to be teased out. His presence in the miniseries signaled one thing: Fionna and Cake would not just be a fluffy romp, but rather one of mythological significance! Needless to say, my interest was fully piqued, and I began to count down the days when the miniseries would debut.
And now that the first two episodes are out, I am happy to say that my tentative fears were likely misplaced. Indeed, if "Fionna Campbell" and "Simon Petrikov" are indicative of the overall quality of this miniseries, we're in for a good time!
So let's dig in!

The miniseries kicks off with "Fionna Campbell," which follows the story of Fionna the human... No, not that Fionna the Human. This Fionna does not live in a magic land, and it is only in her dreams that she's a swashbuckling hero. Instead, the Fionna we meet lives in a mundane world very much like our own. This Fionna seems to feel as if she fundamentally lacks any sense of purpose. Accompanying her throughout her non-adventures in this alternate reality is Fionna's (non-magical) cat, Cake. The main plot of the episode begins after Cat and Fionna have a strange dream, whereupon Cake begins to act erratically; it is almost like she desperately needs to be in contact with ice of all things. After a series of humorous set pieces in which Fionna repeatedly discusses the dullness of her reality with a variety of uncannily familiar characters, Cake goes bananas and makes a mad dash for an ice cream cart. As Fionna gives chase, Cake dives into the cart, which turns into a magic portal and teleports Cake to a different world...
Of the two episodes discussed in this review, "Fionna Campbell" was the least impactful. Do not misunderstand me: It was still a fun, charming episode, but it did little more than introduce us to our heroines and set up the plot of the miniseries. The issue with this is that it makes much of the episode, on a strictly narrative level, superfluous (for instance, were you to have Cake dart over to Fionna's ice dispenser and have it—rather than an ice cream cart—the overall story would still work just fine). But while much of this episode is technically "unnecessary," it nevertheless mines a lot of goodwill and humor by introducing us to gender-bent "real world" versions of beloved Adventure Time characters (e.g., "Queen" [Queen of Ooo], "Ellis P." [Lumpy Space Prince], "Gary Prince" [Prince Gumball]). Perhaps I am biased as a Marceline fan, but hands-down the best of the gender-bent bunch is Marshall Lee, played once again by the uber-talented and oh-so-witty Donald Glover. (That said, Pen Ward's oddball hobo-vet character, "Ellis P.," is a close second.)
Regardless of any narrative weirdness, I applaud Muto et al. for approaching this Fionna and Cake storyline from a different angle. It would have been very, very easy to simply drop us back into the genderbent world that we have already visited in the main series. This, honestly, is what I was expecting the series to do. Instead, the writers decided to introduce versions of Fionna and Cake that feel more like they are from our world. This makes them solid audience surrogates. Over the course of the episode, I came to see Fionna as a character in and of herself, not just as a female version of Finn. Likewise, Cake felt less like "feline Jake," and more like a goofy house cat (albeit one that has a case of the Zoomies from Hell). "Fionna Campbell," in a word, gives Fionna and Cake a chance to become their own people before throwing them into the wider world of Ooo.

After the purposefully abrupt ending to "Fionna Campbell," we are suddenly thrown head first back into the familiar Land of Ooo with "Simon Petrikov."
This episode picks up several years after the main series. Simon is now living a, shall we say, "unorthodox life in a museum-like facility, where he is treated as a relic of the past. He has lost his sense of purpose and direction, and he struggles with loneliness and boredom. Simon, in a word, is depressed. It does not help matters that people keep asking him about "his" Fionna and Cake novels--novels that he repeatedly emphasizes Ice King wrote. Alas, it is no use, and so Simon goes to the tavern owned by Dirt Beer Guy (A+ cameo) to drink his sorrows away. It is here that he runs into a 20-something Finn in all his himbo glory. Finn sees that Simon isn't doing well and insists that he must go on an adventure to reclaim his joie de vivre. Simon reluctantly follows Finn into the most primordial corner of Ooo, where the two are nearly killed multiple times.
At the end of the episode, Simon returns to his museum-home feeling just as bad as he did before. After sneaking off into his closet, we learn that his depression has driven him to create a shrine to GOLB; using the demoniac power of Evil Choose Goose, he subsequently attempts to summon the deity, presumably to reconnect with Betty. But, just like the best laid plans of mice and men, Simon's scheme fails to summon any eldritch abominations, but it does open up the portal we saw at the end of "Fionna Campbell." And out from this portal pops Cake the Cat!
The episode immediately shifts to Prismo's time room, where we see an alarm on the wish-master's remote begin to blink ominously…
Wow, what an episode!
I appreciate the focus "Simon Petrikov" places on depression and the struggle against nihilism. Simon, after all, is a man thrust into a new world. Everything he used to strive for is gone. Even the madness that took his old world away from him is gone. This might sound like a good thing, but interestingly, it seems to have had a deleterious effect on Simon’s psyche: Previously, when Simon was metaphorically locked within the recesses of Ice King's mind, he had something to strive for: He could overcome the crown’s curse and regain his sanity. And then he did! Thus, Ice King ended and Simon was back. But alas, his arrival occurred at the literal end of the story. The big bad was gone. The goal had been reached. All that was left was the ride into the sunset. But Simon could not do that, because even though he regained his sanity, it ultimately cost him his love, Betty.
I won't lie: I found Simon's story to be deeply relatable. For those who don't know, I recently earned my PhD. It was a long, uphill battle, and after I earned that degree… I didn't know what to do. In truth, I still don't know what to do. I have been a student almost my entire life, and now the rest of that life lays out in front of me. I achieved what I originally wanted; it is time to figure out what I currently want. Honestly, it has been an occasionally gloomy time, and I won't lie, I have struggled quite a bit with depression these last few months just trying to figure everything out. In doing so, I have realized just how much of my life I have sunk into my degree. It has been a bit disheartening to realize that while I have a doctorate, but it cost me the entirety of my 20s to get it. So yes, while I did not lose the love of my life to an eldritch demon-god, I still empathize with Simon's listlessness and his existential angst. (As an aside, post-PhD depression is very a real thing, y'all!)
When you have gained what you thought you wanted and lost that which was really important, what do you do? Of course, it is easy to simply collapse in despair. This is capitulation to vulgar nihilism, and it is something that I have struggled with ("Why even bother doing anything..."). At the start of "Simon Petrikov," the titular character is very close to this collapse, too. Indeed, Simon starts off in a dark place, but paradoxically, this darkness holds the seeds that can grow into a life-changing journey. After all, when we are at our lowest, the only (productive) way to go is up. Put most simply, Finn was actually right: Simon needs an adventure to reignite within him that sense of drive and purpose. But the catch here is that that adventure needs to be meaningful to Simon. It needs to spark something unique within his soul. The bizarro arrival of Cake may thus be exactly what he needs. Cake is not just a mystery—she's a mystery that perhaps only Simon can solve, since it was Simon (or, at least a version of him) who dreamed her up in the first place!
Simon now has a purpose.
Purpose.
Once again, Adventure Time is reminding us of the importance of "purpose." Purpose, the show seems to be saying, is what gives meaning to our lives, what motivates us to overcome challenges, and what inspires us to contribute to society. Without purpose, we may feel lost, empty, or hopeless. What, then, is the show suggesting we do to gain this sense of purpose? It is hard to say, given that the miniseries isn't over, but my guess is that the show is emphasizing that while meaning can emerge from even the most chance of occurrences, it is not enough to just recognize these coincidences. Instead, we have to seize them, embrace them, and make them our own. We have to act on our purpose, and not let it slip away. At the end of "Simon Petrikov," Simon is put in this exact spot, and while he might show some reluctance to seize the moment, something tells me that he'll eventually act in a major way.
Am I on the right track? I guess we'll have to wait a few weeks to find out!
----
When news about the series first started to leak, I remember there was a lot of hubbub about its more "adult" tone. I was a bit apprehensive when I heard this; part of what I love about Adventure Time is that it is capable of being scary and profound without having to stoop to the shock value of cheap swears and bloody violence. After seeing these episodes, my worries have mostly been put to rest. After all, most of the "swearing" is pretty mild, and it seems to be used rather judiciously. (That said, I did a double take when Cake told Fionna to "Puke [the bad guy] up"—I thought she said another "-uck" word!) On top of all that, it was often just funny! Queenie shrieking "Jesus!" when Fionna ripped her pants off was comedy gold, as was Finn's line about "bust[ing Simon's] balls" back in the day. I'm a bit more ambivalent when it comes to the gorier elements (e.g., Finn killing that mudskipper in a bloody splatter), but that's largely because it feels a bit incongruous with the lighthearted Land of Ooo that we know. Adventure Time was often violent, this is true, but it was rarely gory. That said, the violence in these episodes is not over the top—this isn't Superjail! or anything—and I hope the show continues to maintain that nice balance. Right now, everything mostly feels "right."
All in all, these were solid episodes. In addition to all the positives that I outlined above, there were a variety of other things that made me smile. I'm quite happy that the show is returning to the multiverse lore, as I always felt that was a story thread that the show never explored to the fullest. The various cameos were also delightful (I had a lot of fun guessing who all the gender-bent normies were supposed to be representative of), and I loved the little post-Mushroom War Simon & Marcy moment. And of course, hearing Marceline say that someone is "pissed" is something that I didn't know I needed to hear!
I cannot wait to see what the series has in store for Simon, Fionna, and Cake.

So, this is NOT a slot machine.
It's a TRADE STIMULATOR.
It did NOT dispense coins, tokens, or any sort of prize if you won.
These were placed on the counter of a store near the cashier, if you won, you had to ask the shopkeeper to verify the result and give you the appropriate prize.
The prize would be some sort of item the establishment was trying to promote, in bars and smoke shops the prizes were cigars or alcohol, in soda fountains the prizes could be candy or soda floats.
Later models tended to dispense a gumball or piece of candy each play, technically making it a "vending machine" and not a gambling device.
Others would invite you to "check your fortune" by referring the spinning reel results to a table that claimed what sort of luck you would have based on what fruits came up.

Here's a confession:
one time I stole my brother's M&M's cause he put them in my little bubble gum dispenser
I'm totally the victim, he was a poopy head.
HEY WAIT A SECOND
I took my little brothers gumball dispenser and put my M&Ms in it because they just fit and he left it on the floor to be broken so I fixed it. I HID IT AND THEY WENT THROUGH MY THINGS TO FIND IT, HE WENT ONTO MY BED AND UNDER MY PLUSHIES AND PILLOWS TO EAT MY CANDY AND TAKE THE DISPENSER

i saw that post of you wanting pople to ask you about your regular show rewrite and i saw the bits of it you posted and i wanna know more
okayyyee sry this is a late response
like most things I invented this lore alongside @crystalfloe and she's brilliant and amazing and the guy who got me into regular show
first things first you need to understand this is. for some fucking reason. a lore heavy regular show au/rewrite. it's so cringe man. please remember this is regular show
that aside the general premise is that The Park is haunted/cursed. The Park is a magical landmark that wants to preserve itself + nature and needs guardians/workers to take care of it. so it "selects" people (normally those who live on park property).
Mordecai and Rigby do not know this. they are 2 normal human dudes who suck at life and desperately need a job so they go to The Park, which they know always has Help Wanted signs (because nobody wants to work at The Cursed Park).
They meet Benson, who Is A Gumball Machine, and they're like... yooo wtf. they don't know why he's like this. but in this world it's not unheard of for weird mutants or objectheads to exist, so they decide not to ask questions because dude that's totally insensitive.
Benson hands them an employee contract and stresses that they Need to Read the Fine Print if they want to work here. Mordecai and Rigby do not read the fine print. They freak the fuck out when The Park starts Cursing them by turning them into animals.
Turns out The Park is a big fan of character development, and mutates the people it Selects to encourage it; if mordecai and rigby stop being dicks, their mutations reverse. This is how you get blue haired anime boy with wings out of a greasy emo art dropout. The general Plot of their lives know is dealing with this forced character development, hiding their mutations because they're 20 and easily embarrassed, and learning to work with them instead of fight against them.
Mutations generally follow a theme based on the Most Character Development Needed. Benson is uptight, doesn't know how to relax, and is awful with children, so he's Cursed™ into being a literal candy dispenser. Mordecai has shit self-esteem, so he's a flashy preening bird. There is nothing wrong with Rigby Rigby doesn't shower /has general living issues so he's a literal rodent but one that's actually known for its hygiene.
If you become aware of The Curse, The Park gets pissy and makes it so you can't reverse your mutations. This is what happened to Skips; his anger issues when he was younger translated into being a gorilla, and then he found out how it worked /tried to game the system, and now he's stuck like that. It can still get worse, but it can't get better
Muscleman + hi five are a unique case. 'Mitch' was a park employee who was an insane daredevil with no regard for his own safety, who ramped a car into a flaming pit and died in the wreckage (maybe this was The Curse, who knows). MM and HF are the aftermath; MM is the zombie corpse reanimated, and HF is Mitch's ghost/soul. Neither of them remember their past or even know that they're technically the same guy, and there's like a whole character arc around that and realizing that you're a different person now
Techmo is also a unique case (thumbs up for techmo enjoyers). instead of being a human who was cursed, he was actually created directly by the park to be a nature guardian. he got a little silly obsessive evil with it until he realized what The Park was doing to him, so he left and got into technology in an effort to distance himself from the nature of The Park as much as possible. There's parallels now between him and Mordecai; Mordecai has main character syndrome, and so The Park is trying to basically make him a second Techmo.
Pops is. Uhhh I don't think we worked Pops out fully. He's an alien still and not actually tied to The Park the same way the others are, which gives him a little more freedom. Plus he doesn't need character development he's already the perfect man
generally, The Park isn't actually an inherently *good* entity. It has goals and a specific mindset it wants its Guardians to have, and part of the nuance of working at The Park is balancing helpful character development (such as Benson learning to relax) with The Park's fucked up selfish agenda (like replacing Mordecai's mind to have the ideal Guardian. don't worry about it).
and that's the regular lore
