A Mother's Poison

Queen Walburga is proud of her position in life and has never doubted for even a second whether she deserves it. Now though, she wonders what she has done to deserve this.

“But why?” asks the whining voice of her oldest child again, hair mussed and eyes wild. Perhaps he’s a changeling, an imposter who replaced my son the day he was born. But no, Sirius may not act like a prince but he’s definitely a Black, willing to shine bright and live life as if it’s a constant explosion.

“Because I said so,” she replies impatiently. Perhaps his carers are at fault, having somehow poisoned his mind like this. Or that wretched girl Andromeda who runs on too loose a leash.

Her son crosses his arms and huffs.

“I don’t like it.” No, of course you don’t. At some point he had been eager to please, following her every rule, hanging on every word—the way Regulus is now—but slowly, without warning, that had changed.

“A prince has no need of ‘liking’, only of ‘doing’.”

“Well, maybe I don’t want to be a prince!” Her eye twitches but he must not notice because he continues. “I don’t want to be anything you want me to be.”

“You’d rather be a peasant, begging for scraps and sleeping in the dirt?” she hisses, “Or a pirate, like you pretend you can be.” Laughing derisively, she tells him “If you can’t be the prince you were born to be, then you can’t be anything!”

She hopes Regulus doesn’t grow up to be such a disappointment.

This is my first time drawing this ‘mother who’d leave her daughter in a garbage dump and act like she was guilty about it’, and was it worth it? Not sure lol.

I’m planning to share my GOFxRE series on here, since I’ve always wanted to do writing and trying to do crossovers. So you’ll be seeing some artwork I’ve done and the stories I’m doing.

Katie Matlin gives me pick me vibes. Her fake nice attitude, her putting other women down, her bullying Imogen, her not being a girls girl, her acting all innocent after having sex with Drew when he was too drunk to consent. In my opinion Katie is a worse version of Ashley

I agree. Especially looking at one of these definitions:

For instance, they might say to guys that [other] girls are “too much drama”. As Courtney Young writes in bustle.com puts it, “a 'pick-me girl' might say something like, 'I just don't get other girls,' with the ultimate goal (subconsciously or not) being to get attention or male validation.

The "too much drama" one especially because even though Katie doesn’t say it herself, it’s canon that she didn’t want to work with Clare because she’s “drama”. But later on, puts Clare with Eli knowing their history (I’m pretty sure that video went viral) and seemed to want to make Clare uncomfortable. Especially her expression when she says that Clare will be “spending lots of time with Eli”.

Like her trying to passing off as this “nice” girl, yet like you said, she would pick on Imogen. I know Marisol joined in too, but the difference is that at least she’s at least HONEST about her moral code. Obviously that doesn’t make it okay, but I’d take someone who can be mean at times but is truly a loving and kind person at heart over a fake nice girl who doesn’t practice what she preaches.

Don’t even get me started on her attitude towards Bianca. Even as far as season 12, Katie calls Maya “Maya DeSousa” when Katie literally had no right to hate Bianca. Also the slut shaming.

And her raping Drew…literally fuck anyone who says that Katie deserves better than him. Especially after fucking him while he was drunk and she was sober. Once again, she definitely knew he was drunk and was playing the victim the next day.

I also wouldn’t even put her in the same boat as Ashley, because aside from a few similarities (having a queen bee bestie, student council president, drug addiction), they’re not the same. For all Ashley’s flaws, at least she did rape anyone. And she does seem to practice what she preaches and doesn’t pretend to be something she’s not.

Also, another thing. I can't decide what irks me the most about her. Her insistence on being cruel to someone she supposedly loves, or her wholehearted selfishness that's endangering her baby.

Darling, you telling about how Nettle is YOURS and not of the Farseer line does not change the makeup of her blood. Her reluctance to see the bigger picture at any given point, even when it's spelled out to her, is so jarring and awful to read.

Of course a mother wouldn't want to be parted from their child, but you have zero right to complain about anything that happens if you knowingly forsake help for your own selfish reasons.

But she will whine. Because that's the character she is. She can't be wrong. She has to be correct and good and true. Because, you know, that's how you wrote a strong female character. :)

listen there really was just something about how in the book, snow’s 3-page descent from hesitant lover boy to deluded mfer happens entirely in his mind. lucy gray gives him no indication whatsoever that she suspects him, that she’s going to leave or betray him. he’s just sitting quietly in the cabin waiting for her to return when that seed of calculated suspicion, which he has needed to survive the capitol, takes a hold of him and chokes the life out of any goodness left inside him. it really drives home your terror as a reader that “oh my god did he kill her? did she escape? what happened to her? why would he even think that?” in a way that when the movie had to adjust for visualization it lost some of that holy shit this guy has lost it emphasis.

the absolute unbearable cruelty that the writers foisted upon Cressida

a woman taught from the beginning in her home, by her own mother, that she cannot trust any other women, who finally, FINALLY felt she had a friend- who didn't care for her much at all. a woman who grew up in a house that is more akin to a mausoleum, a woman dressed up as a doll and made to masquerade and sing and dance for the attention of a half decent man, never to be considered seriously. a woman who is foisted onto a man old enough to be her grandfather, who wants 4 children from her, and intends to keep her locked up in his estate with at most 1 social outing a month, who didn't believe in listening to music, or art.

a woman who goes to the only person she ever considered a friend, saying 'I need to save myself. Run with me. Write with me. Help me.' only for that friend to turn her back on her, and talked ill of her for the rest of her time in her society. a woman who tried to claw her way out of a horrible circumstance, only to be told she's too stupid to do so. a woman who's mother wrote the article that insulted her friend's family, an article she still regretted. a woman who tried to save herself and was then sent off to an aunt even less warm than the circumstances she'd grown up in.

what was Cressida meant to do? she had no one to turn to, and when she tried, she was turned away. she had no options left to her, she exhausted all of them. yes, blackmailing Penelope was harsh, but I would have done almost anything to save myself from sexual assault at the hands of a husband old enough to be my father twice over who was clearly intending on mistreating me, especially if I was dropped by the only person I ever considered a friend.

Cressida's story is so fucking tragic. My heart cracked clean in half for her
