Thinking about how Dream never really gets praise for the nice things he does sometimes so a Dream x reader where an affectionate reader acknowledges his moments of softness and kindness towards his subjects and/or random humans and Dream is so overwhelmed he gets all blushy and doesn't know what to do

He gets criticized a lot which is fair enough, but i feel like he deserves some "ily"s and "im proud of you"s and realize he has good in him too 😭💔

Dream sulked on the bottom stairs of his throne. His lips were in a tight line, and a glare settled into his eyes. The Dreaming was functioning perfectly, yet why did he feel so angry? Or unsatisfied?

You strolled towards Dream after searching through most of the castle. A smile graced your lips, however it faltered. Dream’s frown made your heart break.

“What’s wrong, Dream?” You asked softly, standing before him.

“Nothing, I am fine.”

“Fine is not good nor great, fine is just okay.” You tipped his chin up, making him look up at you. “And I want you to feel wonderful. Now, talk to me.”

His gaze dropped. “You needn’t worry about me.”

“I do need to worry because you’re my partner and I care for you.” You plopped down beside him. “If I can help, then talk to me.”

He squirmed. What was bothering him? What left this ache in his chest?

“I … I do not feel …”

What was the word?

“Feel what? Happy?” You tried to fill in the blanks.

He shook his head. “… cherished, I suppose.”

You frowned slightly. “How so?”

“I am unsure.” He sighed, staring ahead. “The Dreaming and its residents are my duty and purpose, it is my responsibility to care for them and yet …”

“You want some recognition.” You finished for him.

He perked a little, looking towards you. “Yes, I suppose that is it.”

“Dream,” you cupped his cheek. “You are amazing, okay? You are also so kind.”

“I don’t believe -“

“You are,” you cut him off, somewhat harshly. How does he not see it? “You play with children all the time in the Dreaming, you listen to the people and make changes to accommodate them, you care deeply and it shows.”

The tips of his ears grew hot under your praise.

“Come here.” You gently guided him down. His head rested in your lap. Your fingers immediately ran through his hair. Your loving touch weaved its spell over him. “You’re doing wonderful, Dream. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”

He sighed, closing his eyes. “Thank you, my dear.”

“Anything for you, my sweet king.” You bent down, kissing his cheek.
