And Billy's hopes, the tiny thread of hope that he'd been nourishing without realizing it, withered and died right there.

Because Munson is a dealer, and kinda loud and annoying. But Billy is a murderer. He still has nightmares about it, waking Max and Susan some nights. What kind of monster kills their own father, inter-dimensional parasite or not? And it wasn't like Billy had been some kind of catch before that.

Steve smiles when Billy comes by the store anyway. Like he's not a murderer, a puppet for an inter-dimensional being, but a person. They had the same taste in movies, and sometimes they would sit there just talking for hours. Steve had been nice after starcourt, and it had made the crush that Billy had secretly harbored in high school bloom into a full on infatuation.

One sided infatuation, apparently.

So it was real cute, actually. Munson and Ste-Harrington. He decided that it would be cute, and it wouldn't hurt any more. Hell, if Munson and Harrington started dating, maybe then...

He didn't know what maybe was, but he was trying to be positive about the whole thing.

And when he sees the van parked by the video store, he just turns right around.

"Racking up those late fees, huh," Steve says with a grin when he finally does bring them back.

"Got a lot on my mind," Billy mumbles in response, hurrying because he thought he saw the van pull into the lot. And he's fine with Steve dating whoever he wants, of course Steve can date whoever he wants.

Billy just doesn't have to be there while it happens.

"Wait, uh..." Steve ducks his head down, and his hair falls over his eyes in that adorable way that makes Billy want to brush it back behind his ear. "How'd you like Ladyhawke?"

Billy glances back over his shoulder, his heart racing when he sees Munson waltzing up, "Good. Gotta go, Steve."

"Wait-"

"You are never going to believe the news I have for you, big boy," Munson smacks the door open and Billy winces.

"See ya," Billy waves his tapes in the air and ducks out the door that's still swinging closed from Munson's dramatic entrance.

He can't see Steve's expression, and he doesn't want to see how Steve smiles for Munson. Billy bets it's real special, all dreamy and doe eyed. So he just ducks into the camero and speeds away over Max's protests.

"You forgot milk duds, dick," She hisses.

"I had to get out of the way," He hisses right back.

"Of what?"

"Budding romance," He says, half sarcastically, throwing his hand in the air dramatically.

Max doesn't say anything back, but she must know. After all how many times has she dragged him practically kicking and screaming when he and Steve got to talking about movies and then tv and then sports...

Billy's certainly not about to come out to a bunch of snot nosed brats. But Max knows. She's heard what his dad called him enough to know what he is.

And it's fine. If there was only three gay guys in town someone was bound to be the odd one out.

That night she totally sides with him for movie night and they watch This is Spinal Tap instead of Against All Odds. She and Susan do watch along obligingly, Susan even chuckling at the 1960s jokes.

That night he can't sleep, tossing and turning in his bed when he thinks about Harrington's smile and that lock of hair.

Munson must be able to tell something is up because after that he starts acting really squirrely when Billy's trying to meet up. Which sucks because he could really use the weed right now.

Heartbreak being a bitch and all.

He's waiting in his car for Max to check out the videos she wants when Steve comes barrelling out of the Family Video, headed straight for Billy.

Billy blows a plume of smoke out the window.

"Alright, Harrington?"

"No," Steve isn't smiling. He looks downright pissed. "I'm not alright. You got some kind of problem with me and Eddie, Billy?"

Billy sucks in a drag and squints at the back of the van parked right up front of the store.

"Problem with what?"

"You know what."

Billy shrugs, "Enlighten me."

Steve huffs, and then deflates, "Look, I know you're working on being better. I heard about you working on basketball with Lucas, and I think that's really... great. But... I..."

Billy waits. And waits.

"You what?"

"You really don't know?" Steve blinks at him, and a shot with those big brown eyes sinks another of cupid's arrows deep into Billy's heart. He pushes his aviators up his nose to hide his face.

"Know what?"

"I thought," Harrington's blushing, and it looks so cute with the green of his vest. "That you heard that I like... that I'm... bisexual. And that Eddie's... um... And you had a problem with it."

Billy snorts, though he doesn't mean to. And Harrington cocks his head to the side.

He doesn't have a problem with it. He has an ache, a pain deep in his chest that he knows there's no cure for. It hurts so bad it makes him a little angry, a little reckless.

"That would be pretty hypocritical of me," Billy says with a sharp little laugh, "Not that I'm you know... dating material. For any gender. In any sense of the word."

Harrington just looks down, "I don't know about that."

Billy huffs, "You don't need to flatter me. I'm no threat to your boyfriend. Though you can tell him I'm gonna actually need to score soon or I'm going to go mental. My stepmother's into wreath making. You know what a wreath can do to a guy's reputation?"

He wants Steve to laugh. He wants Steve to smile. Even if it's just for a corny joke. Even if it's just as friends. He'd officiate their wedding if Steve would just throw Billy a smile once in a while.

"Boyfriend?"

"Oh. I mean," Billy waves his hand in the air, "Pre-boyfriends. Fucking. Whatever it is you all are doing."

Steve's cheeks are really pink now, "We're not... I mean... I like someone else."

"Oh," Billy pushes his aviator's up, trying to school his expression into something calmer, less manically happy. "I'm sorry, I just assumed-"

"No, I... we just gotta stick together, right. L and G and B and T... all... together," Steve makes a weird sort of half sigh sound.

"Yeah," Billy doesn't know where Steve is going with this, "That's you and me. Two B's. Sticking together."

He's never said it out loud before. He always imagined it would be terrifying, but Steve's smile smooths over some of the panic in the pit of his stomach.

"So you're not... sticking together with anyone, exclusively?" Steve rocks on his heels.

Billy snorts, "No. Plenty of girls to be not so exclusive with, but... no."

"Do you... want to do that with me?"

Billy's heart stops still in his chest. He doesn't know what expression he's making but he knows that Steve is smiling. At him. His eyes are crinkled up at the corners, and he...

"I like you, Billy," Steve's hair flops down and it's so easy to brush it back behind his ear. "Thought you were finally gonna break my teeth in about it, so I thought I'd do it first."

And Billy can, so he does. And for the first time in what feels like weeks, Billy smiles back.

"I would never," Billy sucks in some courage with his next drag, so he can say in a dry whisper, "Your smile is the best part of my day."

-Shen Yuan is vehemently "not a furry but just likes supporting artists" who was pretty active in closed species circles for having a ridiculous amount of super expensive rare species that he found really cool. Shen Jiu (no relation) is a very controversial popufur who runs in adjacent circles that sy has a huge grudge against after seeing sj bully a bunch of teen furries (binghe) for their half angle half devile wolf ocs, but even sy has to admit that sj's fursona Shen Qingqiu is really really cool. Sj eventually decides to cut ties with the whole community after getting into another new discourse and sells all of his accounts and fursona art to a broker, who then sells it to sy. Sy logs into the account and is about to reveal what happened, but Yue Qingyuan sends him a super long vent/crying dm and sy feels too guilty and awkward to come clean after getting that bombshell and so he ends up impersonating Shen_Qingqiu in the elite closed DeviantArt group Cang Qiong Mtn Sect group

-Binghe is in the group mostly as a punching bag for everyone to make fun of his half angel half demon oc Xin Mo, but sy recognizes him as the kid he saw sj bully despite being super humble and with great potential for art, so he decides to take him under his wing (I think I was imagining sqq as a dutch angel dragon but whatever you believe here you can replace that with an appropriate body part). My lovely @henderdads Cass, I unfortunately didn't manage to write a full length fanfiction that you 100% deserve for your birthday, buuuut...I saw that your fav Disney movie is Mulan. What if I gave you a very adjusted Mulan Steddie AU idea with a partial apocalypse, joining the army in place of someone you love, and an incredibly annoying voice in your ear who tells you what to say and do...

Eddie Munson is very much anti-war, thank you. He hates the army, hates the cops, tolerates Chief Hopper because he's cool, but overall authority? Nah, not for him. Eddie would never, ever join something violent and wear camo.

The world doesn't care about his preferences. When interdimensional rifts start popping up left and right and the whole planet is currently battling creatures pouring out of what is called the Upside Down dimension, every family has to send a man to join the war.

Eddie should not be joining anything. After a horrific car crash that nearly cost him his life, half of his torso is nothing but scars, his body is weak from spending months in the hospital, plus his aim is atrocious. But the government said someone needs to go, and his beloved uncle Wayne, the 50-ish man who looks like a nihilist but is secretly all the goodness in the world personified, is gearing up to go and serve his country. That just won't do.

He steals the letter ordering someone from the Munson family to join the Hawkins battlefield and prays that no one will have a chance to check his records. They probably won't, most of the documents for his town got burned to a crisp when a rift opened under the office. And because he knows absolutely nothing about the special Upside Down units he's about to join, he's doing what he knows the best - practicing by roleplaying. He's simulating small talk with "the boys". He's trying cheeky comebacks. And he's incredibly, cringe-inducingly bad at it.

Fortunately for him, or maybe not, he has a guardian angel, except the angel is a 13 year old kid he used to DM for. His name is Dustin and he's ruthless. When he stumbles upon Eddie's "Oh yeah, I used to play the ball in high school. Which ball? Uh...all the ball!", he announces Eddie is useless and gives him a small comm he's developed with his nerdy friends. "Don't worry," he says, "I will guide you through everything."

And Eddie believes it might be a good thing, that it might counterbalance his uncontrollable mouth, at least until the moment that he sees his sergeant, Steve Harrington. The guy is friendly, capable, tough as nails and incredibly, mind-numbingly pretty.

"Say good to meet you, sir!" the voice in his ear whispers.

Eddie opens his mouth to say exactly that. "Wow, aren't you a sight to behold, big boy!" is what ends up leaving it.

Dustin finds out the hard way that the barely functioning gay disaster Eddie Munson is impossible to guide through anything. He picks the lock to the showers after midnight to avoid showing his scars - or if he wanted to be honest, showering very heterosexually next to Steve fucking Harrington, the man who pulled him out of harm's way when Eddie messed up, and then nonchalantly produced a spiked bat and beat the creature preparing to snack on Eddie to a pulp.

"Why did you freeze when Steve was discussing tomorrow's mission?" Dustin hisses at him.

"You're not here, you twerp, you'd freeze too if you saw all that chest hair!"

Many things end up happening during the war of the worlds (cliché, but it works in Eddie's head). Eddie somehow ends up saving Steve's life by backing into a cassette player, turning it on and blasting "Master of Puppets" all over the battlefield, luring the creatures away from Steve's position. He tries to explain that it was an accident, but no one believes him.

Eddie notices that the creatures are invading in certain patterns. When people ask him how come he noticed something no one else did, he just shrugs and says: "it's what I would have done if I was running this as a campaign." He ignores Dustin's excited rambling about how cool the campaign would be and that Eddie definitely has to survive now.

Steve starts respecting him, even enjoying his company. How the hell did that happen. And there's definitely some tension between them, not the angry kind, and Eddie is taking cold showers now. For health reasons, obviously.

And finally, Eddie finds out that even if his aim sucks, he's pretty great with a flamethrower. They become unbeatable as a close range fighter duo with Steve.

Eventually, Eddie's insight combined with some secret government experimentation (they experimented on a kid? If it didn't work out so well, Eddie would have punched them and then set them on fire) end the war. The portals are closed, the remaining creatures gradually eliminated. Steve and Eddie are decorated as heroes and sent home. It's all very quick, very "let's not talk about this whole rift thing possibly being a government fault, nope!", Steve finally finds out about Eddie not being fit to serve and spirals into an absolute meltdown about endangering someone who was never supposed to fight in the first place. Eddie finds himself sitting on a bus home with a medal and a broken heart.

It's only a few days later, after Wayne's crushing hugs, scolding, well hidden tears and Dustin's constant visits, that someone knocks on his and Wayne's trailer door. It's Eddie's former sergeant Steve Harrington, wearing a soft yellow sweater and the cutest shy smile Eddie's ever seen. "Hi. Uh...I know it's difficult to make up for putting you through all that and not verifying your records. But..." he says and shushes Eddie when he tries to accept all the blame and get into a spiral of his own, "...I think a dinner would be a good start to that apology. How does that sound?"

Eddie grins at him and reaches for his hand. "I'd say you've got yourself a date, big boy."

I remember a while back you mentioning Severance, any thoughts now that Season 2 is releasing?

I reviewed Severance (professionally) when it first came out, so I was sort of forced to really chew on it when it isn’t my cup of tea, style-and-genre-wise.

I think they walk the line between “dark” and “goofy” really intentionally, which is an amazing accomplishment. You’re sitting there watching it, and you might be laughing just as often as you are jumping in your seat. I also think you like the characters you’re supposed to like and hate the characters you’re supposed to hate very palpably, so that’s also awesome.

I like the emphasis the show places on “truth setting you free,” and I also like the way it appears to be committed to “life has value,” and “you can’t run from reality.”

But what I hate, what I can’t stand, is how the show uses all of that to also push the whole “you can’t just chop up your full self and pick and choose what to feel.” I mean, there might be many and varied takes on this, but I think the majority of the show does paint choosing to be “severed” in a negative light.

And they do that, of course, because LGBTQ+ messaging. Don’t try to argue with me. Don’t have your gay character turn from devoutly following the corrupt religion that’s got him imprisoned and smash a piece of cake in their Holy Scriptures specifically after his boyfriend is killed by that religion…and then decide to “burn it to the ground,” despite the fact that “it” is his whole existence…as a severed aspect of a whole human’s person. And then try to tell me that “don’t cut off parts of yourself” isn’t an allegory for pro-LGBTQ+ ideology.

Of course, you can spin it. You can see how characters say things like “they (the severed parts of you) didn’t choose to exist!” And like, make that a pro-life or pro-choice argument, however you see fit. They walk that line nice and carefully, too.

But the bottom line is, Lumin, the company they’re all trapped in, are the bad guys. Kier and the whole cultic ideology is the bad guy. But nobody making that show is expecting the broad audience to be able to relate to the experience of being in a real-world cult. Being a part of a real-world cult is a niche experience that not a lot of people purchasing Apple TV have had.

So…what are they trying to say? To who? What are they trying to say by having a big cult that science-fiction-separates people’s lives into “cold hard categories” and makes them live by “abusive, oppressive rules?” They’re not really trying to say, to their audience, “some cults are out there, and they’re crazy, man.” That’s not relevant. That’s not applicable, or relatable, or an interesting talking point. What is relatable and applicable and can feel satisfying to anyone who ever felt constrained by their religion, is to make a show that says, “Don’t let these crazy faith organizations puppet your life and tell you who you are.”

The whole show is about people who are in torment in real life, so they “escape” by submitting a part of themselves to a smiley religion. But that smiley religion actually just keeps the “part”of themselves they’ve submitted caged and abused and manipulated, and if only gives the severed-self glimpses of “your real self” in its own packaging, and when you see it like that, it feels so preachy it’s hard to stomach.

We get it. Religion bad. Religion ridiculous. Gay guy good. 🙄 It’s so insipid it makes me angry talking about it. And even the actual shtick of the show, the vibe, the suspenseful “what the heck is happening” from moment to moment? I liked it in the first season but in the second season I feel my eyeballs rolling out of my head. I get it. You’re suspenseful. People make long awkward eye contact and dialogue has no follow-up or resolution. Goooot itttt

I can basically predict that I’m about to be made-to-feel-uncomfortable in every scene now, so it takes me out of it. There’s never any genuine or normal-human moments in there to lull me into a false sense of security before the next weird-thing happens. It’s like. Every moment is weird. And it’s exhausting. And weirdly boring. By far the most vomit-inducing agonizing scenes are the ones with Harmony Cobel. Ugh. Every time she opens her mouth I’m like “I’m in for a lot of forced weirdo dialogue. Maybe she’ll scream or throw something abruptly again.” Every time she features in a scene alone I’m like “well, she’s going to look at things intensely while ominous music plays.” It’s too much, it’s irritating.

But! There are things about the characters and characterizations that I like. I don’t know if you’re caught up but Mark is my favorite character, and I think that actor, (Adam Scott?) is excellent. Really really good, obviously.

He really won me over with the whole no-hesitation, immediately, as soon as the lady says, “I can reintegrate you,” he goes, “yes. Do it. I want to see my wife.”

I mean, they set that up really well. The whole first part of the show with Petey, just a horrible series of events for him to witness and fear reintegration. But the immediate second he thinks there’s a chance his wife is alive he doesn’t even hesitate. It’s like “yep, give me the brains bleeding out my nose and seizures and insanity.” I literally said, “aw” out loud.

I really want it to work. But I think what’ll happen is, next episode, it’ll open with him panicking and backing out (if I were them and I’d written myself into this corner, I’d probably make him see, in his weird flashes, a flash of Petey, and that lady killing that guy with a baseball bat, and then he snaps out of it and gets out of the chair and angrily berates her and realizes this is insane, why should he trust her about his wife, she’s dead, he saw the body, she’s a murderer, etc.) Or it’ll be a really long episode of mind-journeying and they’ll end that episode with him backing out of reintegration, with more questions than ever. Or it just won’t work, but he’ll get like, flashes of consciousness in the Severance workplace or vice versa.

Because I feel like if they have him reintegrate successfully, all of the secrets begin to unravel for the company immediately. Both of those “characters” effectively disappear. And then what’s the show? I think it was a bait-and-switch. And if it was, I’ll be even more frustrated with the show than I am now.

I'll give you some fun bullet points ^_^ !!

* Dave consumes children to accept them as sacrifices. Jack actively feeds him. He's working towards making Dave stronger to accomplish an otherworldly goal. Dave also has ulterior motives.

* Jack is at times very theatric when he's manic and likes to make a great big show for his mass. A lot of the powers involved are fire-based. It's very moving to hear him when he's giving a sermon, especially later when he gets gay about it. Bro is very convincing...and passionate.

* Henry is not dead dead. The creation of Dave killed him, but he is somewhere in the Flipside, unbeknownst to Dave and Jack.

* "Hell" is the Flipside. The Flipside works a little bit differently than in canon DSAF and is still largely pizzeria-themed, but there are massive sections of nothing but void, and...other structures. Dave can traverse to and from the Flipside with ease- it is his domain, although he is too young to know how to bend the Flipside to his will. He's just using it to store his illicit substances and stolen items.

* Fully brainwashed people whose souls have been sold/taken have their heads replaced by Jack and Dave with a phone. The phone head symbolizes "in too deep"- a full conversion.

* Jack and Dave have a happier relationship in this AU than in canon. Not exactly happy, but happier. Their proximity forces them to communicate and doesn't allow Dave to ditch his tangerine. "Abandon him before he abandons me" is NOT allowed. Stinky. They also have a place to live, which does wonders for the psyche. They share a bed you guys (sometimes) (Dave is often on the floor).

* Dee's puppet is purple in this AU– dark purple with white stripes and a white face. She died in vain- it was entirely a mistake. Henry had misinterpreted one of his Divine Visions™ and had sacrificed the wrong "violet puppet". ;)

* The commune is a cesspool of sex and drugs. The mass is encouraged to engage in vices. Gambling is very prevalent. It's like a little Las Vegas, if Las Vegas was controlled by a megalomaniac and his powerful pet demon. Not everyone engages in it, but most do.

* Harry and Jack get really really weird about eachother.

Regulus hadn't even wanted to attend the party. It was the end of year celebration held annually for the seventh year students. The staff liked to pretend that they had no idea the sixth and seventh year students were slipping out into the grounds to drink, dance, and sometimes have sex under the last full moon before summer holidays. They looked the other way and ignored as the sixth years gathered whatever they could from the feast and secreted it into waiting bags. They turned a blind eye to the seventh years slipping out into Hogsmeade and returning with sweets, fireworks, and alcohol. Completely neglectful on the staff's part and absolutely ridiculous, he thought as his friends strong armed him out of the dorm and onto the grounds.

He had better things to be worried about. He had an entire summer of coming out balls and various luncheons and teas that he would be required to attend, ending with his betrothal to some chit for the future of the great and noble house of Black, Regulus reminded himself with an eyeroll. His parents didn’t care that he was gay just like his brother who had been blasted off the family tree the year prior. They just cared that he married and fucked some girl to make an heir and then he was free to have his “dalliance's” as long as he was discreet.

The same concession would be offered to his betrothal, despite his parents disapproval of it. But Regulus refused to saddle some poor girl in a loveless and sexless marriage without any option to seek that in someone as long as she kept it quiet and didn't bring any children from them into their home. And Regulus had his service to the Dark Lord to complete for the betterment of the wizarding world, or so he was told. He didn't actually believe that either, but he had seen what had happened to Sirius when he disagreed. Thus Regulus bowed and bared his arm like the good little puppet he was.

Regulus had given up his arguments and had decided if he had to be there, he was going to get plastered. The group was tastefully late; arriving after the fire had been lit, the booze had already been poured, and the music started. Those not dancing or sneaking off into the shadows were settled onto the lawn with food and a mixture of liquors. The bonfire blazed in the centre, casting a luminous golden hue in the radius of the crowd. Barty pressed a bottle into Regulus’ hands and he swallowed the burning liquid down as fast as he could. Barty howled with laughter and handed him his own drink before dragging Evan off. Likely to skip the preamble and go snog in a secluded spot, Regulus determined.

The more Regulus drank, the more maudlin he became. At some point even Pandora had disappeared into the crowd and left him with his thoughts. Regulus knew he was going to die. The darkness that was quickly consuming him and a small hopeful part of him thought that nothing could save him from hell, except maybe love and Regulus was too realistic to think that was an option for him.

The music switched to something he’d never heard before. The guitar and the drums worked together to create a fast paced rhythm. Cheering sounded as the space by the fire emptied of people, save for one person, James Potter.

The music filled the air as James started to dance, his hips moving and arms flowing around his body and over his head. Regulus’ breath caught in his throat as he watched. Regulus had never been a religious person, but if anyone could save him from the devil inside himself, it would be James. James danced with a passion, like a fire consumed him and his entire soul was dancing along. The crowd started to keep time with their hands, clapping and patting their legs as James spun in circles and the firelight glowing behind him.

Regulus has no idea how he got there, but somehow he was on the edge of the circle surrounding the empty space James was dancing in. It seemed every soul in the area was singing along to the song that he had never heard before and all Regulus could see was James, sensually moving with the moon in his eyes. James didn’t dance like an angel, oh no. James was not from Heaven, James was a siren and the way his body moved was his song. A call to his soul, pulling at him until he found himself in front of the devil himself.

James laughed and his teeth captured his bottom lip in a teasing manner, before he reached out and pulled Regulus close. There was no room left to move in between them and Regulus’ body began to sing in the same way James’ was. They sang to the fire, the wind, the moon, and to each other as they danced. One song turned into many and Regulus forgot where and when he was as his soul reached out tentatively to James’.

Something clicked in Regulus, like the missing piece of a puzzle slotting into place, and Regulus could swear the darkness was ripped from his soul as they danced into the night.

hi!! if it’s not too spoilery, could you tell us a little bit about how haibara’s technique works? i think i understand but i’m also quite slow so i don’t completely trust myself lol. loving 2sorcs like a two dollar whore and can’t wait to see what comes next!!

Ooh twist my arm, anon! I love what I went with for Haibara's technique so I'm always happy to talk about it. Unfortunately since i am not a sorcerer I don't get a power buff from sitting my audience down and breaking the fourth wall to explain everything explicitly (doctors audiences hate this one weird trick clunky worldbuilding device!)

I'll put the full explanation under the cut. It's not spoilery for the fic, but who knows, some people might want to leave it up to mystery!

So, his technique is heavily based on Twink Ponytail Haruta's technique, which is absorbing miracles and storing them as extra life. Like Takaba, the strength comes from Haruta not knowing how it works*. With his notebook, he's like, half figured it out, kind of like Haruta knowing he's lucky.

Haibara's technique, explicitly, is that he has realizations about people/things, then those get wiped from his memory and stored as charges like Haruta's miracle marks. Later, he can use those charges to get a supernatural insight - something he couldn't possibly know/figure out on his own. The use case for it would be like "Hi Universe! Long time, no talk! Could you please tell me if and where this cursed spirit has a weak point? Thanks bestie!"

Because Haibara is constantly being bombarded with Suguru and Satoru doing gay shit that reveals that they are gay and in love with each other, and the universe is constantly sucking up those realizations (for my amusement), his charges are usually topped off, lol. It's a jujutsu perpetual energy generator!

*Side tangent here, but the way jujutsu powers are understood by their user is kind of mind boggling inconsistent. Because you have shit like Nanami's that is *so* technical and there's no way that you could just figure it out without a direct "heavens pop into your head and give you a 20 minute explanation". I think somewhere out there, there's something where Gege says that a technique user basically does get an inherent guidebook. (Yet another plot hole for JJK0 if you think about it, but, eh, whatever.) 10 Shadows would be impossible to use without a guide, but you could justify it because the Zen'in family has centuries of notes.

Obviously some of the CTs require independent study to push the bounds of (Cursed Puppet stuff, Blood Manipulation, etc.) so we know that not everything is explained to a user with a given CT, but they have to have enough info to figure it out for themselves, with the critical component being creativity + insanity.

Narratively, that's kind of confusing, but it's also very inspiring for fic writers like me. You see Megumi do stuff like his barrierless domain, and the author basically says "well if that's how the USER thinks it works, then yeah, it now works like that". It's cool. When you think about jujutsu, especially with binding vows, it makes sense that the only real limits on what you can do are self-imposed mental limits that you have to transcend. (Also CE output, so you can balance the verse lol).

When lvan removes the collar from Till,in that room where he was left alone (that to me looks like a *cough cough* shady club in a red light district. Poor Till) it reminded me of little lvan rebelling for the first time,entering in Till's cell (in Black Sorrow's flashbacks) and freeing him to escape with him. The parallelism is insane...they couldn't escape anymore,forever trapped until the round's outcome. Instead of a meteor shower,we were showered with rain. Good choice,vivinos. I really liked the grey sky.

One more thing,l think lvan was pretending to choke Till.At the end he doesn't gasp for air and doesn't have red marks. It's completely different from Mizi and Luka. Luka eyes were about to pop out. Till abandons himself and gladly accept what Ivan is doing because he was already dead.He is shocked when he feels that lvan has loosened the grip. He opens the eyes just to see him fall and smile. I also think that Ivan's intention was not to be remembered by Till with that kiss. It's obvious he'll remember everything about the round anyway,like his traumatic past. Present. The aliens were so disgusted by the kiss that,from being on the same level,Till surpassed the score. The love and hype for Ivan became anger: he interrupted their show,he acted in an improper way.

The last peck he gives him,the one showed in full frame,is the real deal. It was a ''goodbye'' and not a tactic to make the aliens frown and displeased anymore. He got to kiss him,something he always wanted to do,so it's not really a tactic.

Ivan waited for a reaction from Till,before and while chocking him. At some point his gaze trembles,he can't stand to see him drained from all his determination.He feels lost,but not because he wanted to see the old Till,who acted like his pillar.Not to feel contented,but because he thought that Till really LOST himself.He ponders about what to do next. ''This kiss will not make him misunderstand''. ''What to do next now that I'm choking him.Are we both doomed''. It is true that Ivan is obsessed with Till beyond the concept of devotion,at the point to make his life revolve around him. Till was what made him dream. He wasn't just something that awakened his vitality (and something else) in the emptiness. Ivan was like a puppet you move with strings,apathic,waiting to die. He didn't realize he could react and reapproach to his identity. Still,I don't think he wanted Till to die with him.

In this round,the one who always fight give up .The one who was inspired and obedient, rebels once again because of the glim of that ''star''. His black sorrow.

Rather than "I love you" it was like he was screaming "You have to live. Live on". He never had his love. For the trauma thing he discussed with Sua..well maybe he thought he didn't meant that much for Till,he was describing what Sua had the chance to get and,in his perspective,would have not cherished with her sacrifice.I don't think he was jealous of her. He says ''I feel relieved. The fact I'm not the only one who's messed up in the head'' . He didn't seem to hate Mizi too.

It doesn't surprise me he was ready to risk it all. He let the pain engulf him,going in the monster's mouth. He worshipped everything about Till. He touched Till's scar and then put the fingers on his lips.He wanted to feel his blood. Like if he could get closer to Till in this gesture,to compensate for the emptiness of the love he would have liked to receive from him.

If I were to say something to lvan: my buddy,your dedication truly amazed me. You were shoot three times and didn't even flinch. I'll call you IVANilla. Cause I like vanilla. I'm sorry,you're not only dead but now you have this name.

First of all, I am so sorry it took me so long to get to this ask (and a bunch of other asks as well). There's just been a lot to think about lately which makes things a little overwhelming. This is a pretty long mesage, so I wanted to find time to answer it as best as I can. Thank you for sending such a long ask, I appreciate that you take time out of your day to share all these thoughts with me :)

The constant theme of Ivan saving Till is so tragic, but also it's really interesting how Ivan is able to deactivate collars and restraints so easily? He's incredibly observant, intelligent, and a trusted pet, so he could've picked up the technique from watching the aliens. It's honestly crazy how much power Ivan has? I mean, he's not on par with aliens by any means, but he could've been such an asset in the rebellion. There seems to be a lot that Ivan knew about, a lot of places he could access that other humans couldn't. Anyways, the parallel... Ivan freeing Till as a child and running away with him, contrasting with Ivan as an adult freeing Till yet remaining stationary. As children they had hope, as adults they know they're chained to their circumstances. All Ivan does this time is press his face to Till's, a small, soft comfort before their inevitable doom.

This is a thought I've always had about Ivan even before ROUND 6, but he always seemed like Till's protector in a way. Some call him a "guardian angel" of sorts (it's quite literal now. unfortunately). Despite Ivan's strange and offputting behavior, he always came back to help Till in one way or another. A lot of things that he did seemed to be an attempt to service Till in some way, even if they were done in roundabout manner. Even the childish act of stealing Till's things just to give them back to him is a (albeit fabricated) situation wherein Till needs something and only Ivan has what it takes to provide it to him. Ivan knows how to unlock the collars. Ivan knows where the restricted area is. Ivan knows where Till's things are. Ivan knows where Till is taken when he is hurt. Ivan knows how to escape. Every ounce of knowledge Ivan has is used for Till's sake. This is an insane amount devotion. Protecting and aiding Till by any means possible.

The meteor shower turning out to be rain messed me up actually. There was so much hope for the meteors to make a reappearance, especially since they became Ivan's signature and are associated with the infamous Meteor Scene. It's fitting, though, for us to expect blazing stars and instead be met with rainfall. There is no fiery passion, no bombastic jailbreak, no escape for the both of them. Cure is honestly so tragic because everything that we'd hoped for just... didn't happen (unless you prayed that Ivan would die! congratulations if you did). All we get is the depressing downfall of water. Extinguished flames, their cold and heavy circumstances drowning out hope and passion, emotions that so closely tied themselves to their beloved meteors now dissipating like smoke. Most of all, Till's lyric "Until these falling stars are buried in the blur of time".

After some deliberation, yeah, I agree that Ivan didn't perform the act to necessarily be "remembered". It wasn't his main motivation, at least. Many of my perspectives on certain aspects of ROUND 6 have changed since I first saw it through tear-blurred eyes (still in absolute shock to this day). The Confession comic further hammered down on this fact, as Ivan's states that his act of sacrifice wasn't as cruel as Sua's because he believed that Till didn't care about him enough to crumble for him like Mizi did for Sua. However, I don't think the aliens were disgusted by the kiss. We only see the scores changing once Ivan wraps his hands around Till's neck. They were definitely shocked by it, yeah, some maybe even against it, but I don't think it contributed to his score lowering as much as the "attempted murder" did. Luka tossed Mizi around and stepped into her space a lot (uncomfortably so) during ROUND 5, Till smashed open an alien on stage, so I don't think the aliens are unfamiliar with more... unique acts during performances. What they definitely won't let slide, however, is attacking the opponent. I do agree that the public's love for Ivan quickly soured into something else, at least for certain groups of aliens. His fanbase is now probably divided between the new haters and the diehard fans who are fighting for their lives.

I also believe Ivan wasn't actually choking Till, he just needed it to look like he was. Till didn't show any signs of struggle except for that first instance of shock. My best friend pointed it out at first, too. She mentioned that Till's body didn't react to the "choking" in any way, in fact, his expression seemed almost peaceful. Till assumed that Ivan intended on choking him and gave up, even when he wasn't actually restricting his air yet. "Abandoning himself" is a pretty great way to word it. I think even Ivan was rattled at how lifeless Till was in that moment.

Ivan's face is contorted in this frame, and it could be because of the gunshots, yes (he's honestly holding it together very well for someone who got shot THRICE), but Ivan was shot as well before this frame and he still maintained a stoic expression. To me, Ivan's stress in this scene stems from the realization that Till is not fighting back. Even with the sound of gunshots piercing skin and the weight of hands around his neck, Till remains unresponsive. Of course it was obvious that Till was giving up right from the moment ROUND 6 started, but to see him so readily accept death no matter the method... his star has truly burned out. He was waiting for a reaction that would never come at this point. The paragraph you wrote about this is honestly beautiful.

Ivan and Till essentially "switching" for this round is one of the things that I hoped for ever since they announced production, so I'm really happy (and devastated) to see it come to life. Ivan taking the biggest and last risk of his life in order to save his star, who spurred on all these feelings in the first place. I agree that his act wasn't an "I love you", though. I was a bit wrong in one of my previous posts. I don't think he cared for his own feelings in that moment. He prioritized Till first and foremost, performing the final act with the belief that Till, even up to this point, didn't care about him.

I never thought Ivan genuinely hated Sua, but I do still think that he was envious of her. It's confirmed now in the Confession comic, too. Seeing how Mizi and Sua loved each other, it gave him an "indescribable" feeling, one that made his brows furrow, his face dropping into a complicated expression. I also think that he never hated Mizi, either. After all, why would he? Just because Till loves her? He knows all too well that people can't control who they love. It's no fault of hers.

Thank you so much for bringing up Ivan's tendency for self-destruction. Even in his own personal relationships he tends to sabotage himself. Much of Ivan's character is centered around a "lack" of some kind. Lack of emotion, lack of love, lack of anyone close to him that could understand him (It's kind of ironic to think about since out of the whole cast he's probably the most well-provided for aside from Luka). Due to this lack, he desperately attaches himself to any feeling that could make up for the emptiness. The Patreon posts state that Ivan is deeply fascinated by anyone who possesses qualities that he lacks, which is why he developed such strong and obssessive feelings for Till, who seemed to be his opposite.

Ivan tanking 3 shots with a straight face was so insane actually. His expression didn't even budge. Really hammers in how much "normal" emotional responses he lacked. He only ever focused on Till, his source of feeling. Also Ivanilla is so cute actually 😭 fits since he's fond of sweets.

If Hyuna and Mizi are found, I have a feeling they'd be killed on the spot. What they've done is basically unforgivable to the aliens, and Mizi was supposed to be shot dead at the end of ROUND 5 anyway. It's either immediate death or unimaginable torture. I'm not sure how soon Till will be able to "get up", but I feel like if he caught just a glimpse of Mizi he'd regain some of his strength back. He'd have to carry on for Ivan, too.

Luka is definitely going to have one hell of a time during ROUND 7.
