the Sarek family is hilarious to me because you have so much drama in one place. there have got to be at least 3 like, holo-documentaries or whatever about them. how could you not?

you have Sarek, the patriarch: one of the UFP's top diplomats, who knocks up a Vulcan princess then goes “hrm I am ambassador to Earth therefore I should marry a human” and he does, upsetting all sorts of the worst kinds of people on his home planet and causing racist hate groups to try to blow him and his family up multiple times, and seems honestly more put out by his son joining Starfleet than his other son becoming Vulcan Moriarty

Amanda, the matriarch: an accomplished educator and quite possibly the only well-adjusted member of the family, but when her son Spock shows up on her doorstep after growing a beard, having a mental breakdown and apparently murdering several medical staff she still shrugs and hides him in the family mausoleum

Sybok: Amanda's stepson from the aforementioned princess fling, who becomes an antiestablishment criminal mastermind with an edgelord fake name, hooks up with a hot space pirate, finds religion, starts a cult, takes an entire colonial government hostage sparking a diplomatic incident involving three galactic superpowers, and hijacks a Starfleet ship to the galactic core to find the Vulcan Garden of Eden, where he dies fighting god in hand-to-hand combat

Michael, a traumatized human girl Sarek brings home from a work trip, who joins Starfleet, becomes their first-ever mutineer, goes to prison, saves the Federation from a war most people think is her fault and gets “killed” in a highly classified, very suspicious incident involving an experimental starship and a series of red lights that appeared across the galaxy like a divine omen (oh, and returns 900 years later to solve the dilithium crisis, kill the head of the Emerald Chain and save two entire star systems including her siblings' homeworld)

and last but not least Sarek & Amanda's one-of-a-kind hybrid baby. Spock, who gets accepted into the Vulcan Science Academy, tells them to go fuck themselves when they're racist about it, runs off to Starfleet instead, gets so famous his arranged marriage falls apart resulting in him publicly strangling his own captain to death except not really, steals the Federation flagship twice, invents time travel, saves the entire planet Earth, dies and comes back to life, goes into his dad's line of work and achieves peace with the freaking Klingons as his opening act, then after a long successful career suddenly dips to go do extremely dangerous underground activism on one of the most paranoid authoritarian worlds in the galaxy to unify the Romulans & Vulcans who've hated each other for over a thousand years — and he isn't around to see it but it eventually works. then he fucks off with the VSA's high-speed prototype ship full of the most dangerous substance known to science and gets sucked into a black hole of his own creation, never to be seen again. and this is just the stuff that's public knowledge!

then you dig into the novels where Sarek's ancestor basically makes out with Zefram Cochrane 5 seconds after meeting him and Amanda tells the press her husband has a huge cock

imagine you’re a combat medic, highly skilled and capable. you joined the army to help people. you wanted to make a difference, so you spent all your time trying to sharpen your skills.

after a few years of hard work, you were offered to join a new task force. task force 141, created by captain john price.

you knew this was the right career move for you. you knew you’d help people.

the first man you met was the captain himself, john price. he was gruff and serious, yet you could tell he was a good man. he wouldn’t say it, but john held you in high regards already. he admired your loyalty and dedication.

the second man you met was kyle ‘gaz’ garrick. your first mission was with him and price. gaz was immediately drawn to you and your nature, striking up conversation with you, asking about yourself and what you liked. you two became fast friends.

gaz was close to your age, so you felt comfortable around him. he was also very trustworthy, which made you relieved.

gaz fell for you first after a few weeks, he adored your personality and how gorgeous he found you, even if you were wearing your dirtied uniform. he wrote it off as a dumb little crush.

not long after, you met two men. first, johnny ‘soap’ mactavish. he was funny, flashy and confident. he’d immediately come off as flirtatious towards you, probably using some stupid pickup line.

second was simon ‘ghost’ riley. he had little to no interest in you at first. he knew you were a good worker, which he appreciated, but nothing more.

over the span of months, you and the men in your task force grew closer. you accomplished quite a lot. they’d all saved your ass multiple times.

price would start to fall for you seeing you take care of injured soldiers so kindly, even if you didn’t know them at all. he also loved your loyalty. you always tried to save someone, even if it was a dumb decision.

for soap, the flirty jokes were a joke until they weren’t. he thought you were so gorgeous and funny. you never got annoyed with him or wanted him to leave. you enjoyed his presence. the flirtation becomes more personal, more serious.

ghost definitely fell for you last. after a particularly rough mission, as you stitched up his arm and tried to comfort him, ghost felt something he hadn’t felt in years. being around you made him feel alive again.

at some point, the men all picked up on each other’s adoration for you. price would always try to help you and guide you, his way of showing his affection.

gaz would always be so thoughtful of your needs, like buying you a drink if you said you were thirsty. small gestures.

soap would openly flirt with you and touch you innocently, vying for any affection or flirting back.

ghost didn’t have a lot of experience with romancing someone. he honestly just stayed close to you and watched your back.

all the men became more and more forward. they needed you to choose someone, they couldn’t let this issue divide them.

if only you got the hint.

does anyone want like a part two.. with like graves.. or laswell.. or alejandro.. ik they’re not tf141 but they do work with them.

the good thing about the slog is that because such little of true import happens over such a long chunk of the series, the show is quite well-positioned to be able to tell the whole story cohesively in any number of seasons after 4. only 4 seasons would be tricky, but 5 or 6 would be just as doable as 7 or 8. (disclaimer that there has not been any news or speculation about potentially getting less than 8 seasons so don't panic haha it's just a topic i was randomly thinking about today! that being said, i do think 8 seasons is pretty ambitious in today's television landscape, especially if it continues to take 2 years to make each season, so while we're all hoping for the full 8, it's worth imagining how they could do it in fewer.)

i expect s4 to roughly coincide with the end of LOC, so, dumai's wells for rand and being raised amyrlin for egwene. perrin, mat, nynaeve, and elayne have more wiggle room in what they might be getting up to during s4 (it seems possible the ebou dar trip might be absorbed into tanchico in s3, and perrin may have to get an invented plotline or have a later plotline brought forward for s4 since he has so little in TFOH-LOC), so i won't guess at the endpoint for them beyond that it will likely leave them ready to kick into a fresh new storyline for s5. and nynaeve frankly doesn't have a book storyline after ebou dar (she's just supporting rand's & lan's storylines), so i'll ignore her in this post and just focus on the other 5 mains. fingers crossed the show will come up with more for nynaeve to do during this part of the story, but that's a separate topic.

after LOC, as far as i can recall, each of them only has 1-2 main things they strictly Must do before the last battle (obviously i've left out a bunch of stuff, but i'm thinking of just the absolute bare minimum essentials here):

rand: cleanse saidin (only requires 1 episode); reach his lowest point, then pull himself back up again, all the while simultaneously working to get as many nations under his banner as possible

egwene: unite the tower as uncontested amyrlin

perrin: finish wolf training; fold the whitecloaks into his army

mat: rescue moiraine (only requires 1 episode); get himself in charge of the seanchan forces

elayne: become uncontested queen of andor

so if s4 ends where i speculate, they'd all be perfectly positioned to spend 4-6 episodes of s5 doing these things, then the last battle for the remaining 2-4 episodes, and boom, we've fit all the most crucial things into only 5 seasons.

i know the instinct is to gasp and insist that they all have so much else to do, but.........do they really? everybody agrees that egwene & elayne & perrin only have 1 plotline during books 7-11 which is dragged out for more books than is needed to tell it, so mat and rand are really the sticking points. but if you think about it, mat spends this time repeatedly starting one plotline but then getting yanked out of it partway through to start a new one, so he doesn't actually accomplish that much story-wise. rand, meanwhile, is on a bunch of little 1-book quests (taking illian, seanchan campaign, hunting traitor asha'man, trying to meet with DOTNM) that could be cut for time or merged into his Darth Rand emotional arc from TGS. honestly, he's so emotionally stagnant for most of books 7-11 (he's either not present, dicking around doing nothing, or repeating emotional beats he already did in TSR-LOC) that i don't think going from dumai's wells straight to Darth Rand would be a bad idea at all, if the show had to; in fact, dumai's wells is kind of a perfect launchpoint for that arc, emotions-wise, and plot-wise, if they wanted to replace some of the arad doman events with some slog events, but just put the Darth Rand emotional spin on those slog events, they could easily do so (for example, him being reckless/arrogant with callandor against the seanchan and getting his own people killed could sub in for natrin's barrow in showing how ruthlessly Ends Justify Means he's becoming).

but anyway, these are imo the absolute most crucial pre-TLB plot points of the second half of the series (at least for these main characters, i'm not taking ALL characters into account in this post) and they could be fit into only 5 seasons without much trouble. now if you've got 6, 7, or 8 seasons, that gives extra room to expand these plot points and also add in some additional, not-strictly-required-but-nice-to-have plot points like more Little Rand Quests, elayne taking the throne of cairhien, egwene & gawyn hunting assassins in the tower, and the faile kidnapping plotline. (while making this post i actually had a wild thought of the faile kidnapping being perrin's s4 plotline followed by wolves & whitecloak stuff in s5 then into TLB, or alternately the whitecloaks being part of the kidnapping plotline as perrin's unlikely allies rather than the seanchan; could be a great structure for a 5-6 season scenario, but for 7-8 it would cause perrin to run out of content too quickly haha)

I know I usually post twisted wonderland works, but the idea of this story made me really excited, so please be kind.

You had spent your whole life trying to please your family.

You were a Wayne child, and although you knew certain things would always be expected of you, having your accomplishments ignored broke you.

You had lived almost your whole life with out your mother. She was a sweet kind woman with a troubled past. While you knew you had a father, you never knew who he was until her passing. When the state came to collect you they informed you that you’d be placed with your father, Bruce Wayne. Even though you lived outside of Gotham, you still knew who tech mogul and billionaire, Bruce Wayne, was. While you were quite shocked at who your father was, you still tried to comfort yourself with the idea of a warm and loving home, like your mother had always tried so hard to provide for you. Unfortunately once you arrived at the manor your hopes were dashed. While all your physical needs had been met your emotional ones were left completely ignored.

When you first arrived at the manor you tried your best to stay hopeful. You smiled and played the dutiful daughter hoping your father would notice you, and give you some sign of affection. Every test you took you received an A, every competition you entered you won a gold medal, but it still wasn’t enough. Your father would never acknowledge you, and your brothers gave you a cursory nod at best, or completely ignored your existence at worst. You just wanted to be loved, was that really too much to ask?

Apparently it was, because no matter how hard you tried everyone was always busy. Damian would sneer at you when you tried to start conversation, Tim would just walk by you, too sleep deprived to take time out of his day for you. Jason seemed to hold your relation to Bruce against you, and never showed you much good will. Your last hope was Dick. You thought for sure the golden boy of the family would care for you, but unfortunately you were wrong. Dick didn’t mean to ignore you, really, it’s just…you’re so…unremarkable. He honestly forgot you existed most days.

Your father wasn’t much of a difference either. He acknowledged your presence and would pay for any and all of your needs, but whenever you would ask for his attention he would never even look up from his papers. You were left alone to deal with your emptiness and grief even though you lived in a house full of people.

So that’s how your life went at Wayne manor for a very long time. You became content with your solitude and decided you rather enjoyed being a wall flower in the family. Even without their recognition or connections you still achieved a lot on your own through the power of networking and the natural charisma you had been blessed with. Everything would have continued that way if you hadn’t crossed paths with a man by the name of Harvey Dent .

Never had you heard your name called so many times in the span of a single minute. In front of you was a wall of photographers, all trying to get your best side, even if you yourself weren’t sure of what side that was. You could already see the headlines: Joseph Quinn Debuts Longtime Girlfriend At Paris Fashion Week. 

You had never really been interested in going to Joe’s fancy events or anything— in truth, he never used to be invited to fancy events. The biggest thing he had ever done was the BBC Les Miserables miniseries, and you had only just started dating back then.

Then, suddenly, the role of Eddie fell into his lap, Stranger Things happened, and your sweet Joe became a cultural icon. The past few months had been the Summer of Eddie, and you were endlessly proud of your man for all that he had accomplished. You hadn’t gone to any events yet, mainly because you were scrambling to keep hold on your anonymity for as long as possible, but, eventually, you knew you had to give in.

Joe had spoken about you in interviews briefly, nothing too invasive. The world knew your name, and people had managed to dig up an older picture of you attending the Catherine The Great premiere (one of the only events you had ever gone with Joe to), so they knew what you looked like; you had been shocked to hear that people wanted to know more about you.

So, in order to satiate the world until you were comfortable becoming a true public figure, Joe had been sprinkling in information about you during interviews: “Oh, my girlfriend hates mushrooms, she won’t touch them”, or “I wish my girlfriend was here, she would love Brazil”, or even “My girlfriend said she liked Eddie’s hair, so I may have to grow it out for her”. But nothing was enough, and people wanted more; hence, your presence on a rainy Paris afternoon.

“You alright?” you heard a quiet whisper from beside you, and you turned to look at your Joey. God, he was handsome, all done up in a full-black Dior suit, the neck open to show just the slightest bit of chest hair. You had protested the haircut he had been given last night, whining about “Aw, your curls! They were getting so long!”, but the trimmed hair suited him. 

You nodded, pursing your lips as you gave the cameras a thin smile. You honestly could have been a little better— your dress didn’t fit quite right, the strap loose on your shoulder and threatening to fall every time you moved your arm, but you wouldn’t dare complain. You were in Paris, at a Dior fashion show, with the love of your life. It was an absolute dream, despite the impending wardrobe malfunction. 

Joe’s eyes were big as he watched you pose for a moment, his arm tight around your waist, and he drew you in closer and buried a kiss in your neatly-done hair. “You look a little…” he started against your head as the flashbulbs popped in front of you. “Uncomfortable.” 

You sighed, keeping the smile on your face. “It’s a lot to get used to,” you told him simply. 

“It is, isn’t it?” Joe chuckled lightly. “But you look gorgeous, and you’re doing so well.” 

“Thanks,” you replied. “I’m just nervous.” 

“Yeah,” Joe agreed. “It doesn’t get much easier. But you’re a natural.”

You took a step closer to Joe, intent on setting a kiss to his cheek, but your dress had other ideas. The strap slipped off your shoulder for just a moment, not even far enough to really be an issue, but Joe was quick to see it happen. In an instant, he stepped forward, shielding your body from the cameras with his own, and his hand swiped out to push your strap back up. “Alright?” he asked, his eyebrows furrowing as he guarded you.

“Yeah,” you replied, adjusting the strap back to its usual place. “I’m good.”

Joe waited until you stopped fiddling with the strap before stepping back into his place, and a relieved smile washed over you. “Just making sure you’re okay,” he told you, and you leaned in and finally kissed his face. The clicking of the cameras got louder as you nestled your lips against his scruffy jawline, and you whispered, “There’s the money shot.”

“Huh?” Joe smiled, his hand flattening against your back.

“That’s the pic every news outlet is gonna use when they talk about me,” you returned, and Joe nodded as he understood. 

“How about this?” he asked, and he drew you in closer to press a kiss to your mouth. It surprised you a little, a squeak leaving your mouth as your boyfriend kissed you, but you tugged him closer and kissed him back for just a moment before you broke. “Now they’ve got a few options.” 

“You’re so goofy,” you told Joe, and he gave you his big smile, that award-winning smile of his. “But I love you.”

Your technical skill with lineart and shading is amazing in itself, but it's your ability to convey emotion and atmosphere in your work that is trademark to me :) its incredible how you can show through gesture and body language just what these masked, expressionless characters are feeling, and how the environment itself conveys that. Your lurien comics, especially the one that ends in something along the lines of "I return to the kingdom you abandoned" are I think the spark that made Lurien go from Some Guy to Deeply Interesting for me, and your use of color pop and shaky line contributed so much to the feeling in those comics. You are one of the artists whose skill at evoking emotions I aspire to <3

Oh wow, I've been reading and re-reading this for the last 20 minutes this is amazing.

So, emotions!

If there is one thing I'm proud to have accomplished during my time in Hollow Knight, it's the skill of expressing tone. Because here's the thing, facial expressions are just one of the many components of tone. (I even wrote about this in another ask some time ago.) Colors, gestures, camera angle, lighting, paneling, lines and narration - all of these come together to convey the mood of the scene.

Check out these wips from the Watcher and the Watched comic, for example.

You can see that color played a huge role in setting the atmosphere in the comic. It shows that this comic is taking place in the Watcher's Spire, but it also gives a dark, subdued feeling that wouldn't come from idk, a yellow background. The backlight emphasizes the ominous tone of the last page. As does Lurien's pose - coupled with the butler looking up and Lurien looking down, it makes it look like Lurien is looming over his butler (and the reader). All this builds up to deliver Lurien's lines with maximum impact.

So yeah, a lot goes into conveying tone in comics, and I'm very happy to hear that it was recieved well!!

The Lurien, Dreamer comic. It's almost 2 years old now but it's still one of the favorite comics I drew about him. Together with the City of Tears comic, it's the epitome of my interpretation of Lurien. My characterization of Lurien's relationship with the Pale King was quite different from the usual fanon at the time (I don't know how it is now, I haven't gone into the tags in years haha) and I wasn't really sure how people would take it. So I'm glad to hear that it got you interested in Lurien!

It's the one that took the longest too lol. Usually I draw comics in a single setting, but that one took 3 days. Besides Two Ghosts (which was an 18 chapter+@ comic that was over 50p and took about 2 months), no other comic has broken this record. I put in a lot of care into it, and it still holds a special place in my heart.

Honestly half the reason I use messy, sketchy lines is that I suck at drawing clean lines lmao. But I like to think that I've made the best of it and utilized it as an art style. In that comic especially, because the whole thing takes place in the dream realm and I wanted to give a rough, unreal feel to it.

I'd show breakdowns of this one too but the file is so big it keeps crashing lol. (Pro tip - draw your comic pages in separate files. Don't be like me and draw 300dpi 10p comics with 30 layers in each page in a single canvas. It will crash and you will be sad.) But drawing the White Palace was a interesting challenge because I usually draw in highly saturated colors whereas the Palace is, well, white. So I had to work out a way to color this without making everything looking grey, while also making it recognizable as the palace. iirc I used a lot of overlay & burn & dodge layers along with a few difference & subtract layers to give the white a slight yellow tint to stand out from the dark blue. (I'm pretty sure they're the culprits crashing the file.)

Mars Be Down to Earth

Why?- So, we step into the cool world of Earth Mars. The Earth element is known for its steadfastness and its mastery of making what I refer to as 'money moves'. Because Earth is their turf; that's what they know like the back of their hand. It's their arena, and we're just hanging out in it, you know? I love admiring these creatures simply existing in their habitat. I learn a lot from them because I barely have any Earth in my birth chart at all, lol.

But yeah—Earth energy is all about being practical, grounded, and reliable, kind of like standing on solid ground, really. This Mars crew has a solid drive for the material world, finding fulfillment in real, concrete accomplishments. This is because they understand the tangible world like none of the other elements can. It's their superpower. They have the potential to realize their manifesting potential if they choose to align with it. They stand to be master manifestors and can teach it to the rest of us peasants as well.

There are a couple of ways, out of the infinite ways, it could manifest.

It could show up as a patient persistence, a (extremely sexy) dedication towards whatever it is you desire to have in your life. Plus, you probably dig channeling your energy into creative and sensory experiences, wink wink because you've got standards and love being comfortable. You could be interested in the idea of lasting success over instant gratification. in which case, good for you, Taurus Mars. You're already better than most of us on days when you're feeling yourself. If you can harness this power of yours, you stand to create successes that most people can ONLY dream of achieving. Your methodical approach to most things in life allows you to map out a plan to realize any dream—honestly, any god-loving dream out there. With your step-by-step strategic approach and action, you could go places, kid.

Now, if disciplined ambition, hard work, action rooted in wisdom, and endurance got thrown into a pot, the resulting concoction would be none other than a Capricorn Mars. Honestly, it's crazy how this sign tames the flames of Mars to bring out a more mature and sophisticated version of the fiery energies of Mars. Mars here isn't as prone to being impulsive, resulting in all its energetic impulses getting funneled into pure goal-oriented action, on a good day at least. Imagine Mars playing chess. If you did, you probably caught the essence of Virgo Mars. Smart, fast-thinking, doesn't miss the details and perfection-striving, Mars here is quite a force to be reckoned with. Mars goes for nothing but precision and will achieve it no matter how long. You guys will analyze the living crap out of any of your mistakes, which allows you to learn from them in a deeper way and make some pretty efficient changes to your overall plan to get where you need to go. Y'all are adaptable like that, which is quite impressive—it's great decision-making. Another thing about Mars here is that Virgo bestows a service-oriented mindset to the natives having this Mars, which, in turn, makes y'all humble-ass badasses, which is ridiculously amazing. OMG. Also, y'all enjoy taking care of your physical bodies and well-being, and it shows! Y'all love looking the part as you're kicking ass on your good days. This energy commands respect in a quiet way, which is low-key some big-dick energy. Love it!"

So that was my take on Mars in the Earth element. hope you liked it!

I'm not sure if this is has been done or not, but Larissa with a Normie (gn) s/o who is very introverted (the complete opposite of Larissa quite honestly) loves books and what not, but the main point is they don't like their own birthday, especially surprise parties. And poor Larissa doesn't know that about her s/o, because s/o never said anything about the situation or even hinted about they wanted on their birthday (even previous ones). If s/o had a choice, they wouldn't have told Larissa about their BD, Larissa just happened to stumble upon it somehow. But Larissa throws a grand surprise party for her s/o at the school and everyone, and I mean everyone was there. S/o doesn't want to ruin this for Larissa even though it is their day, so they try to stay with the party but gets anxiety and hides away somewhere. Someone eventually points out they aren't here and Larissa goes to finds s/o in their usual hiding spot, she just comforts and holds them and slowly understanding where s/o was feeling about the BD situation and deeply apologizes for this, but s/o told her it wasn't really her fault.

The days coming up to your birthday were always stressful. You had managed to keep your cool and act normal for most of it, but sometimes the need to be alone was encompassing. You knew it would all be over soon, and you would be a year older, and everything would be fine, but the sheer expectation of having something to show for it was too heavy to bear.

The thing was: you didn't accomplish much in your life. Sure, you were the first doctorated child in your family, but a PhD didn't make you fun at parties. You taught super-powered teenagers the importance of literature and were surprisingly adored by the little hormone-filled humans, but they weren't the posh politicians or CEOs your parents envisioned you spending time with.

You were proud of your achievements, they just didn't seem like achievements most of the time and especially during this time of year.

When the day came and no one acted differently, you could kiss every single person that passed through you. Nobody knew, of course, apart from Larissa, who only discovered it because last year your mother called to offer congratulations and passive-aggressively pry on your life. Everything was good, and tomorrow you would be older, wiser, and a hundred per cent not stressed over a disaster party going wrong.

That was until one of your students, Yoko, went looking for you close to seven, claiming someone was looking for you in the entry hall. You knew what it was about, and walking through the corridors to the unlit stairs the nausea of having to talk to people without previous preparation began to clog your throat.

"SURPRISE!" everyone screamed at you when the lights turned on. Oh wow, they weren't even close to what you thought they'd be. The entire school was crowding the spacious hall, a long dinner table had been brought and all types of party snacks decorated it along with an enormous cake saying "Happy Birthday, y/n"

Through the crowd, the culprit of that anxiety-inducing nightmare came to you with open arms and the warmest smile you had ever seen her wear. Larissa hugged you tightly, the proximity easing the knot in your gut by an inch.

"Happy birthday, my love," she said before kissing your cheeks and lips "I hope you liked the surprise."

"Yeah, of course!" your half-strangled high-pitched voice rang in your ears. You were going to pass out, there was no denying it.

A lot of students went to you with birthday wishes and handmade cards, and it was overwhelmingly sweet of them, but all you wanted to do was bolt.

Your colleagues were there as well; every single one shook your hand or hugged you or gave you an awkward but well-meaning pat on the back. Everyone seemed weirdly happy to celebrate one more year of y/n y/ln being alive and it was too much.

You talked with the biggest amount possible of people you knew and endured stale chitchat with the ones that you never saw before but, half an hour in, you could not do it anymore. You waited until no one was paying attention and ran like mad to your safe haven, leaving the blasted function behind.

It took more than you felt comfortable analysing for someone to come looking for you. It was nearly an hour, and you were sleepily going over some poems in a random book you picked by the window when Larissa's soft voice caught your attention.

"Love? What are you doing here?" she was concerned, her bright eyes widening at your own, glossed over with tears you didn't have the energy to shed.

"I was just a bit overwhelmed" you offered simply. Should you explain? You probably should, but you felt too tired to even speak too much.

Larissa quickly joined you at the library seat, taking you in her arms and kissing the top of your head. That had to be the best thing about her: she gave the best cuddles known to men.

"I didn't know you'd feel uncomfortable. I'm so sorry, darling" she whispered atop of you.

"You couldn't know… I never told you" you said weakly against her chest.

"Told me what?"

"That I hate it. All of it," she lifted your face and looked at you questioningly "I hate my birthday. I hate the expectations of having something to show, the fear the friends I invite don't actually want to come, having to talk with my family just to hear how everybody else is excelling at life while I barely can get sixteen-year-olds to read eight books a year, it just-"

"Shhh, love" she touched your lips with her thumb, her hand cupping your cheek and a sad smile. She traced her pad over your bottom lip and leaned to kiss your forehead "I am so, so very sorry for not asking how you felt. I swear I'd never have done any of it if I knew"

You know this. You know she had nothing but the best intentions and while it touched you how far she could go to make you happy, it also meant your undoing.

"It wasn't your fault" you turn to kiss the palm of her hand, pressing it against your mouth with your fingers before leaning on her again "If I had told you it never would have happened."

She held you close and played with your hair, the sounds from the party were slowly subsiding and you could hear people walking the corridors and talking. Probably students going back to their rooms.

After some time, you too wandered to your quarters.

That night you played Scrabble in bed while eating coffee-and-chocolate-flavoured cake and Larissa held you close until you fell asleep, whispering sweet nothings into your ear.

I am answering a lot of asks RE: GT and AL below so please don’t click *keep reading* if you don’t want to read them.

It’s sad because you know how difficult it is to accomplish anything as an actor so to get everything just because you know the right guy is simply unfair on people who work hard and have talent but don’t have the privilege. Even in the most basic job it fucks you off when promotion goes to boss’ family member or bestie even though they don’t know anything while competent people get overlooked. This is what happens every time AL and GT get jobs that could have went to someone better.

However I also think that it says a lot that with such backup they’re still not becoming famous on their own - sometimes someone just needs a little help and then they do all the work themselves but the fact that the only roles they get is through nepotism says everything really.

I was pretty sure that they both would be with MS on red carpet so to see them within the audience not even acknowledged said to me that their roles have to be very insignificant. We will see I guess.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about them. Think of the fact that there’s still years to go and so many things can happen within that time. The nepotism would frustrate me a lot too but what would surprise me more is if they both jumped at the opportunity to act in GO3 knowing it’s pure nepotism. Well, maybe I wouldn’t be surprised, I guess.

I don’t have trust in NG that he won’t try to insert them for their fans sake but I hope everyone around him will remind him that this is suppose to be a quality show. Not a spot a family member show.

I honestly doubt they’re actually friends. I mean… we all have friends. We know what kind of selfies we post, how we talk about each other, how it looks. Their whole thing only began when the photoshoot happened and suddenly they were wives and totally loved each other. Come on 😂

GT didn’t last long before going a little sarcastic on a fan saying they’re linked (😂) which makes me think it’s far from the warmth they’re trying to portray. Also I think she doesn’t like AL copying her. Which she does quite a lot actually. Pretending they’re wives is a huge reach when I doubt they are even more than acquaintances.

They went together to prepare for BAFTAs so it’s not exactly personal either tbf. Whether someone thinks they’re promoting everything about DT/MS out of love or to get attention themselves - either way they’re getting attention which AL needs desperately at the moment.

I wonder if she will be working overtime at the BAFTAs.

There are two ways to get a tick on insta, she either went through the whole verification process or paid them. I’m hardly surprised to be fair, she’s been begging to *be famous* for years now. Nothing has worked, so now they paid for the photoshoot and involved GT in her promo, she increased her visibility a lot, linked herself to Tennant’s, damn she was even allowed to post about David, but nobody is calling so she got a check to *be verified* now too which she hopes will help too. Honestly, as much as I doubt in her modeling career, let her try, I don’t know how many more miserable Michael selfies I can take!

Priorities eh 😂 Girl wants her fame, maybe she wants to escape too so she desperately keeps on reposting, using famous surnames, and now even grabbed her tick on insta to appear more established and trust worthy hoping for that job offer. It all started with her photoshoot and her PR was very obvious. I wish her luck but I think she’s looking in wrong departments.

There is a huge difference between her and MS and DT/GT in many ways - it is quite surprising how people who have two kids together can feel like such strangers five years later.

Well we don’t know who spent Valentines with who because both ladies posted their men without their women…

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that AL is fighting very hard for a career suddenly and her PR is very obvious, and MS is making a point to show he is not happy when they’re together, and MS/DT rumours are increasing. All done by the four people in question.

The Dream

Now that the evening reblogs are out of the way, I promised @citylighten a little bit of a deep dive into Hope's Dream, why I triggered it, why I was apprehensive about it (sprinkled with a little writer's insecurity) and what I was hoping to accomplish;

TLDR; the dream symbolized Elliot's hopes for the future and Hope's way of saving Elliot.

I posted the reminder to filter your tags last night because I would be depicted a deceased body which of course is a trigger (fun fact: the reason there was never any blood is because it was already emotionally charged and sometimes that's worse than blood and gore, plus blood nauseates me). We are literally still in the first day home after a two week hospital stay and Hope is coming back into a very harsh reality. What I am attempting to do is unroll that reality as realistically as I think I can.

Don't mean to get mushy on main, but I was apprehensive about that post. Insecure about it even. My reasoning is, its not an easy subject to tackle and when you're writing something visual it has even more of an impact. Honestly, sometimes I think I take things too far. But the way my brain works, it *had* to be a nightmare and it *had* to be vivid. So the apprehension was like "Damn Cin, maybe that was *too* much". But I posted anyway because I believed in it. Believe it or not, that post came together over the course of the night last night with a ton of ice water, some turkey jerkey and a dope ass playlist... I digress

I figured that the wedding attire and location may throw people off and it did. The preset I used was super white with a dark sky (silent hill preset). It had to look like a dream. White symbolizes innocence and purity in western society. Hope's subconscious mind was showing her what Elliot wanted. Them to be married. It should have been him. They have the history. In the dream he's squeezing her hand, he's afraid. He's quite literally dead. He asks what happened as if he doesn't understand. So she's stuck with telling him, in all white, walking down the aisle. And then the next thing we know he's limp on the ground. Another angle is Hope's subconscious mind showing her what would have saved him; them staying together and marrying.

So this is super long already but I wanted to at least give some background as to where I was going there. I understand that some have had to back away from the story for awhile and I support that wholeheartedly (folks unfollowed and blocked me when Darren was abusive toward Indya, even more did after she married him because to some, abusers can't change). Up until last week it was a beautiful story of a beautiful romance, a beautiful wedding and a beautiful honeymoon and then the whiplash upon return was a lot to handle.

I get it.

okay so i've decided i have some concerns regarding netflix's adaption of avatar: the last airbender (which for the sake of my poor fingers, i'm shortening to natla). i will admit that i may have been taken in by the beautiful trailers and i can further admit that the actual cinematics do look fantastic. i love the costuming, the cgi of the elements themselves, and the animals. but...the more i hear about the overall storyline of natla, the more concerned i become.

first, the removal of sokka's sexism shows that the showrunners simply fail to understand his characterization and the innate flaws that make him a character to root for as he grows and changes. sokka grew up the only real man in his tribe because his father and the other men left to fight in the war against the fire nation. not only that, but we can see based on the northern water tribe that there is a sort of innate sexism therein entirely with women being relegated to healing duties when they could bend and men as warriors. and honestly, when you really view it through the correct lens, it makes sense.

but removing that deprives sokka of a great piece of his character arc. not only does his sexism eventually become broken by his sister, but he learns from the kyoshi warriors new ways to fight and comes to respect them not only as 'girls' but also as seasoned, accomplished warriors. my concern is that the removal of his innate sexism is not only going to do a disservice to the character but also to the viewer themselves by sanitizing a story that, frankly, can get quite dark when you think about it.

second, what really worries me is the change to avatar aang. i read an article where they decided to remove the random stops here and there and instead basically have the gaang go immediately to the north pole to begin learning waterbending which...that's not really staying true to aang's character, in my opinion. the article i read basically says that aang learns about the fire nation, goes 'well, let's get to the north pole asap' and off they go. but that does a disservice to aang's character as well. a key point of aang's entire arc is that he does not want to be the avatar. he never wanted to be. it was a title forced onto his shoulders and a mantle he never desired to wear.

by removing those random stops throughout the earth kingdom - and eventually, i assume, the fire nation given that they REMOVED THE FUCKING COMET WHAT THE ACTUAL FU--okay, no, ran, breathe. stay on topic. woosah. - then they are also taking away the chance of the audience to see how severe the war, colonization, and oppression has become throughout the world thanks to the fire nation. not only does this offer the potential sanitization of the fire nation's hundred-year-long war for total conquest and dominion, but it also takes away key parts of the storyline, depending on how much of the early plot lines they scrub.

it is key for aang to see those things. he needs to see the forest that the fire nation burned and help to soothe the angered spirit (which i will say i think we are getting, thankfully). he needs to see the fact that the fire nation is in so many towns and cities throughout the earth kingdom. there may be no war in ba sing se but the rest of the earth kingdom has been feeling the effects of the war with the fire nation for a century now.

i'm not touching the removal of sozin's comet in this post. like. nope. not doing it.

basically, i am concerned. i am beginning to see why the original creators decided to leave over differences and i am really worried that netflix does not understand how to adapt atla and the importance it has with so many of us, myself included, who grew up with it and adore it so. i rewatch atla at least twice a year, often far more than that, and while i desperately want to see a live action version, the "it's a remix, not a cover" line concerns me. and sure, it doesn't need to be a word-for-word, shot-for-shot cover, but i feel like the scrubbing of the two above issues has already broken the heart of the storyline and the hearts of its fans.

i dunno. maybe i'm wrong and need to trust the process and wait. but i've been badly burned by a live action atla before and i don't wanna go through that again.

The Warp Effect Ep 12 (Finale) Stray Thoughts

The week of finales continues! I was forever changed by My School President. Will this show change me as well?

Last time, things finally came to a head at Jedi and Rose's wedding, which used prom as its theme. Jedi and Rose continued to make me believe in long term romance. See-ew committed the cardinal sin of proposing at someone's wedding. Mollie and Nim managed to reconcile a bit. Joe and Army danced in public, and are building their romance. Alex learned that the sex ed teacher was his bio dad and refused to forgive him for abandoning his mom. Alex tried to reconcile with Jean, but Jean refused. Kat is hanging out with Tony now. Alex learned that the camera came from his bio dad.

As always, so much happens on this show.

I do enjoy the sci-fi conceits of someone experiencing this huge period of time, and then returning to an earlier moment. Everyone else being so confused amuses me.

I also like Alex immediately going to reassure his little brother.

Clize and Sing are so funny together. I hope we see them paired again.

Alex getting ahead of the Mollie issue by kissing her himself is unexpected, but makes sense to keep it from becoming a rift between Nim and Mollie.

Oh, Alex, please don't out Army and Joe.

Yep, they're still closeted jocks, so yeah that's definitely the same outcome.

Jojo definitely likes Kill Bill, Vol. 2.

I love Jedi and Rose so much. Mark and Best look so comfortable together.

Absolutely comedic poses for Jean and Alex's consensual first time. Still, that was much nicer than what happened originally.

This friend group is honestly impressive if they all not only stayed in their pairs, they also remained friends for a decade.

Kinda hope Alex gets the memories of the better ten years and doesn't have to piece those together too.

Final Verdict: 10, Highly Recommended. This show was an absolute delight from start to finish. I cannot overstate how impressive it is that this show remained legible despite the sheer volume of threads it was managing. This show managed to be funny and sexy, while still continuing the mission to make people more comfortable with their bodies and aware of their own sexual health. It also managed to accomplish those educational goals without feeling like an after school special. It's also the queerest show we've gotten to enjoy in quite some time. I'd say in some ways it cared more about queer issues than some of the BLs we've watched. Please watch and enjoy this.

i'm glad to hear that you ( and others ) agree! honestly, i was quite nervous to post my thoughts on the matter in the main tag, considering how crazy fandom spaces can get nowadays, but i felt so strongly about this in particular that i couldn't help it. my main issue with the discussion surrounding this deleted scene is the fact that it feels extremely pointed. for the last few months, jackienat as a romantic relationship and as a platonic pairing has been gaining steady traction ; they've become a staple to most fics as an essential dynamic and something that heavily matters to both characters. besides shaunajackie it's easily the second most popular ship for jackie, and in a way i think that's the problem. ever since gaining more popularity, there's been very odd comments thrown it's way? people taking every given opportunity to claim they don't see the 'jackienat romantic vision' on edits, saying it would never be a thing because of jackie's one slut shaming comment about natalie, etc etc. before this deleted scene dropped there clearly were handfuls of people who would do anything to tear this dynamic down and then they finally got the biggest chance to do so ... and they did! i've seen people call jackienat's whole dynamic 'completely fanon', people saying this was a satisfying scene to them because of jackienat shippers disliking shaunajackie, and excuses after excuses as to why this scene is, in fact, canon and why it works. overall it was just saddening to see? just feels like a good majority of yellowjackets fans see jackie as shauna's property rather than a fictional character people can do whatever with, so the idea of her having a relationship with natalie quickly became this threat that they had to belittle and claim as ooc at every given opportunity. which is weird! considering shauna has so many other ships that don't include jackie at all. it's also a little amusing since a good chunk of these people happen to ship shaunanat, most of them quickly rallying behind the 'nat pointing a gun at a pregnant shauna' scene as shipping fodder. don't think i've seen anyone saying 'oh shaunanats lost with this one' despite the heap of comments saying this for jackienat.

point is : i find the intent behind people's talk for this scene to be rather weird more than i find the scene itself to be sad or despairing. simply because it is just not canon. when scenes are cut for time, they've usually been filmed first -- considering that said scenes made it into the final, 100% solid script. this is true for the shauna and adam bdsm scene because we've seen clips of that in the actual show, meaning they filmed it and just cut it for time. same thing with a lot of s2's cut for time scenes! lots of the actresses and actors said these moments had been filmed but just didn't make the final cut. to me this signifies a time issue to some degree, especially given how long some of these scenes would've been! but the jackienat thing would've been a couple seconds tops? it was nothing more than jackie sitting outside and then the two of them passing her all while nat gives her a scathing, hateful look. considering we see shots of jackie sitting by herself with the cabin's front door in view, this would've been fairly easy to accomplish! i don't think people get that, per se. which to me signifies it was cut from the script before they started filming, or that by the time they got to the finale they saw this as ooc. idk. it just doesn't make sense for this to be cut for 'time issues' like the way some people are trying to argue. and even if this was the case, it proves that the writers deemed this moment as something unimportant enough to not include.

also, i don't see why this is the be all end all of jackienat either. is it bad to say this scene would've made me like them more? picturing this scene as canon and then having to watch natalie's anguish in s2 ep3 makes her guilt all the more agonizing to me, honestly. it was already such a hard hitting scene : seeing nat treat jackie's remains with respect, to see her shed her walls and be vulnerable with someone she didn't know well but cared for, and to get a peek into the fact she feels so guilty because, naturally, natalie sees this as her fault. they ate jackie because she couldn't find food fast enough. they killed her because she hadn't been there. these are things nat doesn't need to feel guilt and shame over, because jackie wasn't her responsibility or her friend, but she feels them anyway and she feels them intensely. now imagining this scene in a world where the deleted part was canon? awful! those emotions would've been way more heightened, all those personal blames would've had a fraction of truth to them, and natalie would be forced to acknowledge that when someone needed her help, she had just left them behind in the cold. something which would also intensify the pain of her watching javi drown in freezing water all while crying out to her ... a moment which she'd be wearing jackie's necklace. also, i'd find it kind of interesting that it'd be implied natalie has all these complexities and personal hatred over letting jackie taylor die just like shauna. they'd be the two who take her passing the hardest, the ones who blame themselves more than anyone else. to me that's just gayer than what we got canonically lol. but in turn, i think this could've been another reason why it was cut? this guilt and shame and hate was something reserved for shauna alone, because it's so pivotal to her character and growth, to the point that the writers couldn't let anyone really share that same feeling. it would've taken away from shaunajackie, i think, and what makes them special. if natalie genuinely had walked past jackie out of hate only for her to die the next morning, i believe we would've seen this guilt permanently etched into her character from the beginning. people forget just how quickly nat is to blame herself for things! and be very obvious about that blame! just feels like we would've known if natalie had left jackie out there on purpose, which isn't something we know at all in regards to the actual show.

anyway! i've rambled on quite enough. to me, this scene isn't that bad at all, and i don't think this takes away from the potential of jackienat whatsoever. there's really no evidence that it does! even in the worst case scenario of this scene being canon, it just makes the dynamic much more tragic, which fans eat up on this show. and at the end of the day i wouldn't give the discussions much attention, considering most peoples reasons for wanting this scene to be canon are very petty.

rant about ofts writing problems

only friends is a series with great potential, good actors, important themes and a major pacing issue.

the arcs are either too spaced out or too close together. the characters go through a lot of redundant scenes, then race through underdeveloped yet key scenes.

the dialogue is often filled with exposition, meanwhile many circumstances could've been more fleshed out and made more clear, if only certain hints were more precisely sprinkled all throughout the series.

example: there could've been a couple of scenes showing sand reminiscing about boeing during the season - nothing too long, no expository dialogue whatsoever. imagine: sand alone in his room, after a major fight with ray, looking through his phone contacts, seeing boeing's name, looking at the screen, in doubt about whether to contact his ex or not, and then giving up and turning off his phone. literally this scene alone, that could've lasted, like, 15 seconds or something, would be instrumental to developing sand's lingering feelings for his ex. another scene could be sand, after bumping into top or seeing ray with mew, for an example, staring at a similar plane model in his room, obviously given to him by boeing, in apparent internal conflict, before putting it away somewhere out of sight.

imagine - two scenes like these, sprinkled during the show's season, each shorter than a minute, would've helped build up sand's emotional turmoil over his ex, would've further developed his resentment towards top and it's just SIMPLE FORESHADOWING for boeing's ressurgence.

I'm a professional screenwriter and playwright, btw, and I cannot stress enough how often my fingers were ITCHING because of the urge to get my hands on these scripts and give them at least a couple more rewrites.

they aren't bad scripts by any means! they're unfinished, rushed. they needed a few more treatments and revisions. I feel like the pacing issue is an industry problem - the writers are most likely rushed and possibly have to cater to less than helpful notes from executives who are oblivious to dramatic writing structure (VERY common, at least in my country's ent. industry).

the show is okay (which is already an accomplishment, honestly - people who don't know the ins and outs of working in television can't imagine the odyssey that is putting a show together). in many ways, ofts is very subversive and probably quite revolutionary for the cultural landscape. remember the context in which the show is produced, my people.

sure, it has problems, but please give grace to the writers. we are an underpaid class, often working under people who underappreciate and barely understand our work. we are most likely hyper aware of when our work is lacking.

this is a show that could've been better with more time and more budget - in every way (sound mixing, extras, set design, rehearsal time - the quick, cheap production style of a lot of these short tv dramas actively works against the quality of the shows and robs them of their true potential).

always keep that in mind. the artists are very clearly competent - the circumstances under which they work are very detrimental to the work itself.

but it remains frustrating to see a good piece of art that is so obviously unfinished.

💫A goofy AHHH review💫

hey guys it's ya boi Rusty here again!! and I'm here to review:

Yes yes, I can hear y'all now saying "but it's made for kids" "bro why are u watching this" 🤓☝

This show is pretty good so far, all things considered! I decided to watch it for the nostalgia (and for mah boi Smee ofc!)!! I watched this show a little bit when I was younger, so I remember it fairly well. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it isn't cringe! (Well, some parts are a little iffy but we'll get to that in a minute.) It's actually tolerable and even made me laugh at some parts!

💫The songs💫

The songs aren't that good, in fact their kinda cringe. (But ofc I gotta go easy on this show cuz yes, it is intended for little kids with no brain cells.) At the end of every episode (wich usually consists of two episodes ranging from 15 minutes long each, making up the 30 minute mark.) There's these two ideots called Sharky and Bones who sing a song, and it's cringe. The lyrics arent funny, and their singing isn't even that good. I get that the humer is supposed to have zero brain cells, but come on guys. U gotta try a bit harder than that. The background music for the episodes is ok, nothing I would casually listen to though.

💫The characters💫

We have a few new characters to add to the Peter Pan universe by the names of Jake, Cubby (WHY ARE THEIR TWO CUBBYS?!), Izzy, Skully, Sharky and Bones. (And Captain Hook and Mr. Smee of course!!) The character designs are good, they work well for everyone, except Hook. Hook just looks weird in this art style honestly. And at first I didn't like Smee's design in this, but it grew on me. (The og is still better though!) In fact, he might even look kinda cute! :D

The voice acting for them is great too!! Its very expressive and something you wouldn't normally get from a kids show. The new voice actors for Smee and Hook almost sound IDENTICAL to the og's! There are some minor differences, but nothing to really make me get annoyed at. The animation is smooth and fluid too! I can tell that they used computer Riggs, but it's barely even noticeable! Which from what I heard, computer Riggs are pretty hard to do. So thats honestly impressive!

First off, I wanna talk about how Smee is portrayed. In the og movie, he's supposed to be a bumbling ideot (but a lovable ideot imo!). In this series, he seems to have a few brain cells, which I dislike. They didn't stay true to his character! Neither did they with Hook. He isn't that goofy anymore, neither is he evil, but he's in between. I can't really describe it, but something is off with his personality.

Like I said before, the music isn't very good, and neither is the pacing of each episode. It's inconsistent and feels too slow at times. The plot points for each episode are predictable too. The kids find something to play with, and Hook wants whatever it is and steals it and they take it back etc etc. The dabloons make no sense either! They collect dabloons each episode for their chest, but why?! What does it accomplish?! Maybe Im not smart enough to understand but that makes no sense to me. It's repetitive too, but not to the point where u want to shove a gun into the side of your head and call it quits. Like I said, it's tollerable! It does feel like Micky Mouse Clubhouse though (I HATE MICKEY MOUSE CLUBHOUSE.), but with Peter pan 💀

💫Conclusion💫

I like this show, and I think it's cute! It has potential!! Maybe just get rid of the repetitiveness and the cringe songs and it could be good! I reccomend this is you want the nostalgia from your chilhood (well technically I'm still a kid but whatever LOL)!!
