Dream Writing
I’m going to try to write my dreams here. I may not remember to every time but that’s doesn’t mean I won’t try 🤞
This dream was weird and I remember every bit of it.
First sequence of my dream: I was sitting on a roof top with my friend watching this small cruise ship launch. It was normal until this wave came in and capsized it. More people joined me and my friend on the roof to see what’s all happening.
Then suddenly, something from the boat was grabbing random people and pulling them off the roof. I got grabbed and was freaking out so bad but I managed to get ungot and left.
In random dream reasons, I was in this little shaded area that was connected with the beach with a guy from my school, the guy who played Archie on Riverdale (reminded me to make a Riverdale script) and my old art teacher.
After the events that just took place, I started bawling because it was traumatic and my art teacher who, I’ll call Rayburn, just hugged me while I cried. Very comforting.
Second sequence of my dream: this took place a random campsite and I assume happened after the boat incident. So I was watching this deer run around and decided to follow it along the road infront of my tent. One we reached a T in the road, a wolf ate the deer.
That scared me, then suddenly a bear was there too. Some guy with a trailer showed up and I asked him if I could catch a ride bc of the bear and wolfs. he said yes.
Third sequence of my dream: I was in this bar with my parents and we had these baby carriages that me and some guy were supposed to sneak gold into (idk bro) two of these as like a heist thing.
My dad looked into the first carriage and saw that the original objects weren’t in there and instead was a baby Mario toy?? Idk
We were locked in the bar which turned into a bunker thing with loads of beds and my parents were MAD. For some reason my parents didn’t sus me out so I just went on with my life. Apparently we ran out of beds and my mom walked me into this huge house.
One side of the wall was a beautiful big room, while the other side didn’t have a flor was just a 20ft(6m) drop. And for some reason Mick and Ivy from Offspring were sitting in the hallway playing music??
Fourth sequence of my dream: so I was at the art teachers house (rayburn) and I guess this was years later bc I had a kid and a husband (who was Arron Hotchner 🤪). We talked for a while, joked and laughed, she called me fat. You know the fun stuff. I was also hiding the fact that mine and hotchs age difference was weird
Rayburn took me, hotch, and some random people to this old temple thing where we fell down this deep hole. At the bottom was this room full of dresses and suits.
This temple was the game thing where 2-3 people are put in this spot light and they needed to be voter. Who ever got the most votes could stay while the person who got the leave votes was voted out.
So a couple of games pass and I’m voted out. I’m back in the room with the dresses and go find a bathroom. I don’t find one but I do find this door and button. So I press the button and it opens the door where I hear Rayburn speaking, I guess to the players.
I’m getting some Saw vibes and get creeped out when Rayburn notices that she sees light coming from the entrance so I book it from the door
I decide to check out the rest of the temple and come across an office and want to go inside when Rayburn comes out which is weird since I heard her from the other room. She says hi and was saying that she was busy and that I could come in.
So once I’m inside she gives me these chocolate flower petal things with caramel on it. They tasted wonderfully. She starts telling me that the boat incident was because of her and all these people I saw where witnesses who then saw her later that day. She wanted me to help her torcher these people and I, for whatever reason, was like “sure man sounds fun”..???
Rayburn took me to this area in another dimension where it was this shrine of Hades, Zeus snd Athena’s childhood and how Hades was like this hated child. I don’t know anything about Greek mythology so this was so random.
End Dream
Definitely my weirdest dream and best dream bc it stayed on plot for so long, I’m very impressed.
Also does any of this have meaning?? Probably not but it’s worth asking
Stay safe and have fun
HAPPY SHIFTING

So I have this little headcanon (well,,,, not really a headcanon but more of a nice-to-think-about headcanon because it would never happen but it’s- like the title- nice to think about so im sharing it here) in which they’re all going to the beach in this sorta mini-van that bruce rented. And take in mind that this is the wayne family, but at the same time most people that wear a bat on their chest,,,, so they had to whack some things up.
BUT ANYWAYS, it was Bruce’s dumbass idea to buy a van and call it a road-trip, and honestly? no one was ready. That usually happens with big families, even with one that has most kids over 18. And how everyone was on board with the idea doesn’t matter because this is my headcanon and they are all now squished in a minivan and there are bags in the back and towels in the seats and there’s a cooler on top because it didn’t fit.
and just for reference the van was like SMALL. it was sort of like the school buses but way smaller, so they’re like buses in which there are three seats in front, driver, and then like two others (the middle one doesn’t really count because that’s where you put waterbottles and stuff). There’s a sort of space in the back, where you usually put the backpacks (these are like elementary school buses and every single kid has those backpacks with wheels and it’s a pain in the ass-) and then there is another set of four seats (that’s more like a sofa but no armrest- god please have patience there is literally not a single image on google im trying to be specific- and those are facing the back of the bus (so the backrest (?) is facing the place with the bags).
THEN we have another seat that’s close to this one but facing the opposite way but it’s only THREE seats so there’s a space for the next row of three seats and then there’s the back one that’s four again.
In conclusion, you can fit 18-ish people, driver counted.
and continuing with my story, it’s Bruce driving, Alfred as shotgun, a water-bottle or two in the middle, the bags in their respective places... and then...
disaster.
Babs is the only one sitting in the four-seat closer to the bags, harper is in the three-seat, Dick is there as well.
and then there’s the rest. Steph, Cass, Duke, Jason, Tim, Damian, they’re all screaming in the back and they’re throwing towels around and there’s an “OW! THAT WAS MY HAIR YOU DICKHEAD!” and a “THAT’S MINE!” and so many other things because. the back of the bus, it’s cURSED. And Bruce is just driving with a strained smile because he wants so badly to turn around and throw a waterbottle at each of their heads to get them to shut up (of course, it wouldn’t work because not even god can calm down the back of the bus)
Tim and Jason somehow get into this argument of how tim ‘has no friends’ and Tim shoots back that in fact he DOES, that he’s calling them right this instant. And bruce doesn’t even have a chance to yell at them, because now there’s a speedster and a cloned kryptonian right beside the moving minivan and Bruce is lowkey freaking out because none of them (the ones in the van and the ones out) are wearing their superhero costumes, and then Tim is just with his hands pressed on the window and he’s like practically banging the glass and waving and they can’t hear him but he’s like “HEY! HEY HYE HEY YOU GUYS MADE IT!!!” and then dick is just telling them to cut it out and slow down because you know, identities, and Steph is like HOLY SHIT THEY DID MAKE IT and Damian is just sitting upside down with his legs in the backrest off the seat and Duke is in the same position, making fun of Damian because his feet don’t reach.
Kon and Bart seem to get the hint because they slow down, but not before bart has literally jumped towards the MOVING VAN and vibrated through (i’m like 99% sure he is able to do that so-) and then he literally landed on Tim (tim actually softened his fall, because Tim’s back literally made a ~crack~ sound by hitting somebody’s knee) and stood up real quick and then started waving and laughing at kon, who was now running normal-speed beside the van.
And then bruce went FASTER and kon was like WHAT THE HECK OLD MAN and he can’t use his powers so he’s literally running behind the van and bart is laughing his ass off and then tim is like “BRUCE STOP THE VAN!” and then Bart is already calling cassie and telling her what happened and you can hear cassie laughing from over the phone and then Tim is just yelling at bruce in the background. Bruce eventually DOES stop, and Tim opens the door for him and Kon crawls in and Bart’s still laughing, and he’s practically leaning onto Dick and Harper, and they’re squished together and bart’s just laughing on the phone while Kon sits on the really far end of the opposite seat (practically on the door) so he’s the furthest from babs as possible because he’s actually terrified of her. Tim is just sorta awkward because he now realizes that he was a bit TOO excited to see kon, and then the back of the bus/van is staring at them and like what the hell and then Tim goes “who doesn’t have friends, huh?”, and Jason goes ‘pfft’ and he calls roy but he’s spending time with lian; he calls artemis and she goes, “but wasn’t this a family trip? what do you need me for?”, SO jaosn calls bizarro and then he barely answers the phone when bizarro goes “RED HER SAID NO. BYE” so Jason slumps and it’s quiet for a second when steph goes “is that GUM IN MY HAIR”. And then jason laughs and its chaos all over again. (i might make a ‘things that were heard from the back of the road trip bus post bc i have so many ideas oh my god)
and then they are at the beach, the bus barely stops and there’s a few bags thrown out the window, and people yelling at Kon to open the door, and Kon not being able to work under pressure so tim opens it and everyone’s pushing each other and Steph has an uneven strand of hair, because Damian went to ‘extreme measures’ and cut it so now steph’s hair is uneven and they were going to keep cutting it “to make it even” but then Alfred was like “you’re all going to clean the van afterwards so think carefully” and then nobody did anything and there’s literally a ziploc bag with steph’s strand of hair (damian didn’t even cut to where the gum was, he cut even FURTHER but yes, the gum is in the bag).
As I was saying, they get out of the van, and the bags are out and Bruce has NO IDEA what to do. none. It’s alfred that rents a tent and then Damian’s chasing duke into a random restaurant’s changeroom and showers and then cass is dragging harper that’s dragging steph that’s dragging jason and tim is getting the bags with Kon and bart and bart realizes that he doesn’t  have a swimsuit and then he stops walking and Kon seems to realize too and it’s like OH MAN and they can’t run back (because no powers, rule set by bruce when two super-powered bros came in the bus) and They’ recarrying the bags to this tent (do you guys know what im talking about? i feel like we’re imagining completely different things- it’s this but much more people and there’s a bunch of people selling stuff like sunglasses and doign hair, piercings, tattoos even - for the tattoos thing it’s just promo for an actual shop they don’t tattoo you in the actual beach - ) and It’s literally Kon, tim and bart carrying the bags (which they CAN carry between the three, it’s not like they packed up half the manor) and then a minute later or so Steph is sprinting towards Tim and she’s yelling something Tim can’t understand and then Steph points at her bag (that tim’s carrying) and she screams something like “SAND! HOT!” and then she’s like high-knee-ing/sprinting even faster and Cass is just walking barefoot in the sand, super calm, but she’s got Harper on her back. Damian and Duke are racing towards the shadow (because the sand is cooler there), and next thing you know Jason’s aready in the tent with a coconut.
And if you haven’t thougth about how the Batfam would be in the beach then let me tell you, you don’t have enough spare time because i know for a FAT FACT that:
It was Jason that insisted on Bruce buying sand toys (a whole bag, i swear)
Damian tried coconut water, didn’t like it all that much (altho he loves the inside- idk what it’s called but it’s edible i swear)
Bruce put on an excessive amount of sunscreen
Duke has swimming trunks with the robin logo just to piss damian off (also Damian has matching ones but with the batman one)
Steph, Cass and Harper rented a banana boat (here’s a picture) and they dragged Jason and Tim along, just to toss them off in the end
Jason 1000% got stung by a jellyfish
Bruce bought like seven friendship bracelets from this guy that made them because they looked deadass cool
They played beach volleyball and let me tell you Damian can throw a really mean overhand serve (actually, i don’t think you THROW a serve, but like,,, serve one-)
dick got buried in the sand, courtesy of Jason
bart was pissy because he couldn’t go in the water, so he and Kon sprinted with normal speed (they both had water-proof anklets that sucked their powers, so it was REALLY  a no-powers vacation, courtesy of Bruce, again.)
the only ones in stock were neon, and they settled real quick so now theyre sprinting back and cardying a bag of keychains they thought looked rad as hell and now tim caught up to them and all three are practically skipping towards the water
,,,,they forgot to put sunscreen on.... all of them,,, they forgot....
tim made a sand castle
in teams of two (kon/bart, tim/cass, duke/harper, steph/jason, dick/damian) got on each other shoulders and basically spent five minutes trying to see who would be the last team standing, splashing water everywhere and stuff
first team to go down was Dick and damian, because steph pushed damian and by trying to keep himself on Dick's shoulders, damian accidentally poked dick's eye (sort of CLAWED in so you know what i mean).
second team to go down was steph and jason, because damian doesnt play fair and so he swam down and literally just scratched Jason's ankle, knowing damn well that the jellyfish sting was there. Jaosn shrieked and steph lost her balance. so much for vigilantes at night with stealth and talent, huh.
third team to go down was tim and bart because kon insisted on being on bart’s shoulders and that’s easy peasy because i mean, bart’s not WEAK, but he’s not TALL either and it’s not like Kon weighs a feather and they’re on the deeper side,,,,, you can imagine the rest
Now there’s two teams, and they call it a tie because otherwise someone’s gonna end up injured (altho tim likes to say that he and cass won)
There’s music playing in the background, with really vulgar lyrics that alfred disapproves of, but you know. It’s not his beach.
THIS IS REALLY JUST A SCREAM POST SORRY IT’S NOT WHAT YOU GUYS SIGNED UP FOR BUT TAGLIST ANYWAYS: @red-hood-redemption @screennamealreadyused @bikoncon @catxsnow @thesporklecat @thesesickfics-justmakemesick @hauntingsonofrobin anddd i think i forgot someone sorry

Teach Me Something I Don’t Know: Part IV
Tumblr media
Summary: The Halloween parade. Will and JJ are adorable. Anita suggests that Spencer become a classroom volunteer. Reader has a rough week.
Pairing: Spencer Reid x fem!reader
Category: fluff, a smidge of angst
Warnings/Includes: none
Word count: 4.4k
a/n: I wish we’d seen more of Will and JJ as parents because I imagine it would be adorable and hilarious. Let’s see if you can guess all of their costumes before the reveal lmao. Your only clue is that Spencer loves keeping with a theme and the brown vest (I literally learned how to make my own shitty gif bc I couldn’t find the right one in the search and I do not understand embedding lmao) makes an appearance.
Series Masterlist
———
“Did you grab the bags?” JJ swept the pleated, platinum braid out of her face as she bent over to zip up her boots.
“No, I thought you did,” Will called, bouncing down the stairs.
“I put them in the car already,” Spencer informed them, popping his head back in the front door. “There was just the one box, right?”
“Yeah, that was it,” Will confirmed. “Shit— where’s Michael’s sword?”
“Should be on the counter,” JJ huffed, standing up and adjusting the bodice of the blue dress.
“Got it.” Will came around the corner of the kitchen, patting his hips where his pockets would be— if he weren’t wearing an adult-sized onesie. “Keys?” Spencer held them up. “All right then, let’s get this show on the road.”
The trio headed to the waiting SUV, Spencer climbing into the backseat as Will and JJ got into the front. Will and JJ chattered on about dinner plans and schedules for the following week, and Spencer smoothed down the brown wool vest layered over his white linen shirt. He’d spent entirely too long putting together the costume over the last week (with a little help from Penelope). He’d scrapped the Spock getup he’d been working on since September— he could always wear that next year. But he’d only get one chance to attend the Room 105 Halloween parade, and once the idea had wormed its way into his brain, he had to make it happen.
“Spence?” JJ’s voice pulled him from his thoughts.
“Hmm?”
“Would you be able to pick Michael up on Monday?”
He ran his hands down his thighs over the mint green cropped trousers. “Sure, as long as we don’t have a case.”
Will smirked at him in the rear view mirror. “How’s Ms. Y/L/N?”
“You’re about to see her yourself, so you can ask,” Spencer replied.
Will laughed, and JJ turned in her seat. “Whoa, coming in hot with the snark. You really do like her.”
Spencer fought and failed to keep the blush from rising, irritation at being teased blooming sharp inside his chest. He tried to shrug as nonchalantly as possible. “She’s a great teacher.”
“That’s not a no,” JJ noted, eyebrows raised.
“She’s Michael’s teacher,” Spencer said, like it meant something.
“Yeah, so?” Will shrugged his shoulders. “You’re his godfather. Technically, you’re not related, so it wouldn’t be breakin’ any rules.”
“Well, it’s not like that, so it doesn’t really matter,” Spencer insisted.
Will hummed and JJ turned back around in her seat. Spencer drummed his fingers on his knees and watched DC roll past through the SUV window. It really wasn’t like that. Y/N was just… very nice. A nice, beautiful, sweet, silly kindergarten teacher that he couldn’t stop thinking about no matter how many books he read or coffees he drank or chess games he played.
Monday was the last day of his sabbatical, and he was even more relieved to be headed back than usual— grateful that he’d have something to occupy his mind other than her. Because his mind was, indeed, occupied. The way her smile beamed like the spotlight on a stage, illuminating whoever happened to be on the receiving end. The way her hands moved in unbound, buoyant illustrations of her thoughts. The way her laugh felt like the first warm sip of tea or the wrap of his favorite scarf. It was getting out of hand, to say the least.
Will pulled into the parking lot, and instantly Spencer’s palms began to sweat. He glanced at the headband on the seat beside him and felt the mortification clawing at his insides. The costume was ridiculous; he was ridiculous. He should have just worn the Spock outfit.
Maybe he could just wait in the car and pretend like he hadn’t been able to make it. Or he could just leave the headband in the car. But then he’d just be in mint green capris with a sweater vest and platform sandals, and she’d have absolutely no idea who he was supposed to be. Then he’d have to explain it, and it would be even worse.
Will parked the car, and he and JJ immediately stepped out. Spencer watched them near the hood of the SUV, enjoying a rare moment of co-parenting without work hovering right out of frame. Will pulled the hood of the onesie up and JJ laughed, brushing her hand over the brown fabric twigs sticking out of the top. He supposed that if Will Lamontagne, Jr. could strut his stuff in adult footie pajamas, his handmade costume was probably all right.
With one last resigned sigh, Spencer slid the headband on. He grabbed the box of Halloween treats, opened the door, and hauled himself out of the vehicle. He pushed the door closed and looked in the reflection of the window, adjusting the headband around his curls and blowing out a breath.
“Ready?” JJ called, peering around the side of the SUV.
“Yeah—yeah,” Spencer agreed. He moved around the vehicle to join them, the three of them walking to find a spot in the crowd of parents standing around the carpool loop.
When they found a suitable spot, Will looked up at him and shook his head. The sandals added three extra inches to Spencer’s height, putting him a good six inches taller than Will. “Those shoes make you look like an actual giant,” Will chuckled. “I know that’s the point, but I feel like even more of a shrimp next to ya now.”
Spencer set the box of candy bags on the ground and would have shoved his hands into his pockets if the linen trousers had any. Before he could respond, JJ pointed to the door of the school, cooing, “Oh my god, look. Remember when the boys were that small?”
The PreK classes came out first, and Spencer could acknowledge that they were very cute, barely out of the toddler stage and holding hands with a line buddy. But he was waiting on a very specific cutie.
He’d barely had the thought when the kindergarten classes started to emerge from the door. He almost didn’t recognize her at first— just an orange blob and green shrubbery. But the converse gave her away.
“How is she so cute?” JJ threaded her arm through Will’s. “Even when she’s dressed as a giant orange blob.”
“It’s a gift,” Will agreed. He glanced up at Spencer. “Right, doc?”
Spencer nodded but didn’t take his eyes off Y/N. “I think so, yeah.” Will grinned and bumped JJ’s shoulder, but Spencer barely even registered his own response.
Thankfully they’d picked a spot near the very end of the loop, so he had plenty of time to get himself together before she was in front of him. While Will and JJ waved at all the tiny superheroes and princesses, he watched Y/N. She was all orange fabric from her shoulders to her knees, with bright orange Chucks to match. On her head was a strange variation on a party hat, bright green ferns sprouting from the tip of the cone and falling into her face. She looked absolutely ridiculous and entirely adorable, and he was in so much trouble.
When the class finally approached the final curve of the loop, Will nudged Spencer and gestured to the box of goodie bags. Spencer crouched down and lifted the box, standing back up to see Y/N laughing at Will and JJ. “Very cute, Lamontagne Family.”
Her gaze traveled across, then up, and then her eyes went wide and her mouth fell open. Spencer wondered if maybe the earth could just open up and swallow him whole.
“Oh my god, are you—?” She stepped forward and ran her hand lightly over the vest, and he didn’t dare breathe. “Are you the BFG?!” Her hand dropped from his torso, and he didn’t have time to be disappointed before her face split into quite possibly the biggest smile he’d seen from her yet.
A tiny Superman shouted, “Ms. Y/L/N, we’re making a gap!”
Y/N came back to herself, gesturing to all three of them. “Don’t go anywhere.” She accepted the offered box of treats from Spencer and then turned to help her class catch up.
Will gave him a look. “It’s not like that, huh?”
“Oh my god, she likes you.” JJ clapped her hands together. “This is amazing.”
“I’m takin’ credit for this,” Will bragged. “I’m a regular ol’ matchmaker.”
Spencer couldn’t even be bothered to attempt a denial. He was still thinking about the feel of her palm on his chest, how it might feel to hold her hand, the way her eyes practically sparkled when she saw his ridiculous headband. He was in so much trouble.
Fifteen minutes later, the classes filed back out into the parking lot for dismissal. Y/N led the class down the sidewalk, grinning at the excitement coursing through her line. As they approached the end of the loop, Y/N caught sight of them and waved. The kids lined up in their normal spot, chatting excitedly about their costumes and candy bags.
“Lord, Ms. Y/L/N, you’re something else,” Will laughed.
“Is it not the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever seen?” She laughed and tapped the green shrubbery hanging in her face. “I have the kids do a little persuasive writing thing every year. They draw a picture and write a sentence about what they think Ms. Y/L/N should be for Halloween, and then we take a vote.”
She waved her hands in that way Spencer loved, the way that was so similar to his own. “Usually the options are pretty tame, you know—ghost, witch, bumblebee. This year was a near tie between runner-up Jojo Siwa and well,” she gestured at herself, “carrot.” Y/N cackled, and the leaves on top of her head shook with the action.
They all laughed along with her, and then JJ added, “The details are truly incredible. Is this an actual plant on your head?”
“I really thought about it,” Y/N laughed, “but no, it’s just fake ferns stuffed into a cardstock funnel.” She gestured at Will and JJ. “But also, excuse me— this family costume is ridiculously cute. Mr. Lamontagne, loving this onesie. Mrs. Jareau, I didn’t even know it was possible to look prettier than you usually do, but here you are. And Michael’s Anna costume?” She held her hands up. “Incredible. Show stopping. I wish I had an aunt Penelope to enlist the help of, because that cape is the actual height of fashion.”
“She helped Spence, too,” JJ prompted, stealing a glance in his direction.
“Oh yeah?” Y/N asked, turning to smile at Spencer.
“We um, 3D printed the ears,” he clarified.
“No way!” She took a step closer to him, peering up at the detail on the headband. He leaned down a little for her to get a closer look. “That is so cool. I’ve never actually seen anything 3D printed up close before— did you design them yourself?”
She met his eyes briefly, and he realized how close they were— close enough that he caught the faintest whiff of sandalwood and cardamom. Of course she even smelled like warmth and home. “Well. I, um— I drew a sort of sketch, I guess. And then Penelope did the software coding. I— I’m not very good with technology, honestly.”
She ran her fingers lightly over the plastic, and he decided she was really trying to kill him. “Yeah, I’m not sure I really understand how it works.”
“Well, first you create a blueprint file of the design you want to print, which you can do through modeling software or three-dimensional scanning. Then you convert the file into an STL file— named for Stereolithography which was the first ever 3D printing process. The STL file is made up of triangular mesh polygons, which is the data that describes the surface of a three-dimensional object. After that, you use a software program to complete the process of slicing— essentially dividing or chopping the 3D model into hundreds or thousands of horizontal layers that the printer can print one at a time to create the 3D object. And then the printer prints each layer until you have your finished product.”
Y/N was quiet, and he pulled back to see her grinning at him. “I thought you said you weren’t very good with technology?”
“I’m not good with using technology,” he clarified.
She nodded. “Gotcha. So you just know everything about it.”
Her joking tone had a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “I read a lot.”
“How much is a lot?”
“I can read at a rate of 20,000 words per minute, so… a lot.”
Her eyebrows shot up into the tangle of ferns on her head, and he was just so overwhelmed by how adorable she was. “Well, if I ever have a question about anything, I know who I’m coming to.”
He was sure he was blushing, but he couldn’t really bring himself to care. “I’m happy to answer any and all of your questions.”
She let her gaze travel over the rest of the costume. “Oh my god, the sandals! Man, you really nailed it. I’m very impressed.”
“Thank you.” He cleared his throat. “I thought about being Trunchbull, but I couldn’t find the sweatshirt,” he joked.
She laughed, and he wanted to bottle it up to keep forever. “As much as I would have loved to see your hair in a bun… you’re much too sweet to have been able to pull that off.” She smiled softly at him. “Much more suited to our friend the BFG.”
He rubbed a hand down the back of his neck, and it was only then that he realized Will and JJ had gone to the car. He looked back to Y/N, opening his mouth but unsure of what he was going to say.
“Y/L/N!” He turned his head to see Anita jogging toward them. “Did you—” The giant cardboard box she was wearing knocked into one of the few kindergarteners left in Y/N’s line, nearly sending them to the ground. “Oh my gosh, sorry sweetheart!” She righted the startled child, and Spencer gave her a once over, completely at a loss as to what her costume could be.
“What in the world are you supposed to be?” Y/N asked, choking out a laugh.
Anita looked at her deadpan. “A monopoly piece. Remind me that I’m never participating in team costumes ever again.” She rolled her eyes and gestured at Y/N. “Next year I’m gonna wear an orange t-shirt, call myself a carrot, and be much more comfortable.”
“I’ll have you know this costume was a lot of work,” Y/N remarked, crossing her arms.
“I’m sure it was. You could have put on an orange dress, stuck a green pipe cleaner in your hair, and called it a day, but that’s not the Y/L/N way.” Anita’s eyes slid across to where Spencer stood. “Well, hello, doctor. I have absolutely no idea what you’re supposed to be, but I love everything about it.”
“Spencer’s the BFG,” Y/N said, and Spencer could have sworn she sounded almost proud.
“Ah, Roald Dahl, of course.” Anita smirked. “I see you, Spencer. I see you.” She put her hands on her hips— or rather where her hips would have been if they weren’t covered by a ridiculously large box. “So, when are you going to volunteer?”
“Sorry?” he asked.
“Like, when are you going to volunteer in Y/L/N’s classroom?” She held up her hand, palm down, and made a circular motion between the two of them. “You know, hang out, but professionally.”
“Oh my god, did you need something?” Y/N’s squeaked, eyes wide.
Anita ignored her. “You just have to do a background check, but I’m sure you’ll pass it.”
“Lopez,” Y/N said, staring her down. “Do you need something?”
“Oh, I was just going to ask if you got the email about the PD after school on Tuesday. But this was much more fun.” She winked at Spencer. “Bye, Spencer.”
They both stared after her as she nearly skipped across the grass to the building. Y/N turned to him. “I’m— so sorry.”
He met her eyes and took the leap. “Volunteering could be fun.”
He watched her press her lips together to contain her smile. “It could be.”
He didn’t bother containing his own. “I’ll um— I’ll shoot you an email.”
“I’ll respond to your email.”
When he walked in the door, Spencer made a beeline for his desk. He opened his laptop and pulled up his email account, writing as fast as his one-finger typing would allow.
Spencer Reid Re: Volunteering
Hi!
I’m just following up about volunteering. Anita mentioned a form that I needed to fill out? Now that I’ll be back to work, I’ll just need to plan around the BAU schedule. Could you give me a list of days that would work for you?
Really looking forward to seeing you in action.
Spencer
He checked his two other email messages, and then left the browser up while he thumbed through his most recent reading material.
He sat at his desk for the remainder of the afternoon, distractedly perusing his book and glancing at his empty inbox every minute or so. His gaze flew up to the screen at the ding of a new message at 6:30, only to find a promotional email from one of his favorite indie bookstores.
He closed his laptop with a sigh. It was a Friday night. Y/N probably just didn’t check her email on the weekend. He could wait until Monday. He’d see her on Monday.
He limited himself to checking his laptop twice a day on Saturday and Sunday. When Monday rolled around, he checked it in the morning. He leaned back against the leather of his chair, staring at the empty inbox. He had some errands to run, and for the first time in his life, he wished he had a phone that had email on it.
He ran his last-day-of-sabbatical errands and stopped in at his favorite coffee shop for most likely the last midday, sit-down coffee he’d have for a while. Before he realized, it was 2:30. He brought his empty mug to the counter and waved to the barista. Then he walked to the car and prepped his conversation starters.
“Did you get my email? I sent you an email, just wondering if you saw it? Hey— Hello— Hi, I wasn’t sure if you got my email.” He blew out a breath. “Hi. How are you?” He waved his hand. “I’m great. Did you get my email?” He laughed into the empty car. “Ridiculous, Spencer. You’re ridiculous.”
When he pulled into the parking lot, his heart was racing and his palms were slipping against the steering wheel. He pulled around the loop, looking with a furrowed brow at the area where Y/N should be. In her place was a short woman with cropped grey hair. She held a clipboard and looked generally overwhelmed.
Michael sprinted to the car as soon as he saw it. He pulled open the door and let out a world weary sigh. Spencer turned in his seat. “Everything all right?”
“No, everything is terrible,” he huffed dramatically. “Ms. Y/L/N was sick today. Mrs. Franklin was our substitute, and she smells weird.”
Spencer looked through the window at Mrs. Franklin, struggling to keep a few rowdy boys in the line. “I’m sorry, buddy. I’m sure Ms. Y/L/N will be back soon.” He was secretly relieved that he had a potential explanation for the unanswered email.
“I can’t take another day of Mrs. Franklin,” Michael sighed, buckling his seatbelt. “I hope Ms. Y/L/N’s back tomorrow.”
Spencer let out a breath and pulled away from the curb. “Me, too.”
JJ huffed out a breath, glaring at the stack of paperwork in front of her. Spencer was nose deep in a book, but he glanced up at the sound. “I can take a few of those if you want,” he offered.
“No, it’s fine,” she sighed. “I’ve really only got six left.”
He looked at his watch. “Each report takes you approximately 37 minutes. With eight minute breaks in between, you’re not going to be out of here until almost 6:00.”
JJ laughed. “I can’t believe I missed out on these scathing performance reviews for thirty days.”
“Suit yourself.” Spencer dropped his gaze back to his reading.
His first week back from sabbatical had been uneventful to say the least. The team had just wrapped a local case, and they’d spent the better part of the week going over consultations and potentials. It was finally Friday, and Spencer was finished with his stack of backlogged reports.
He was finishing the last chapter of the book when JJ dropped a string of quiet curses. He continued reading, waiting for her to ask. She was quiet for another minute.
“I forgot I’m on duty to pick Michael up today.” Spencer looked up at her, slight panic coming over him.
“I really don’t mind finishing your reports,” he offered.
JJ raised her eyebrows. “What, no offering to visit Ms. Y/L/N?”
Spencer closed his book. “I, um. I sent her an email a week ago, and she hasn’t responded.”
“So?”
“So…” Spencer ran a hand through his hair. “That’s weird, right?”
JJ laughed. “You don’t really use email, so I’d imagine your inbox is pretty orderly. But if you use it a lot, it can be easy for messages to get lost.” She looked at him pointedly. “I can almost guarantee that she’s not ignoring you, Spence.”
He sighed. “I guess there’s a quick way to find out.”
...
Spencer drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, watching the door of the school. He glanced at the clock, noting the class was later than they’d ever been. Without really understanding why, he pulled out of the loop and swung back around to park in the lot. He exited the car, and as he rounded the hood, he spotted them.
Y/N was at the front of the line, hands stuffed in the pockets of her jacket and mouth pressed into a thin line. The line behind her was unlike he’d ever seen it. No waving arms, no smiles, no giggles. Twenty small bodies followed behind her with absolute and total solemnity, and he felt uncomfortable just watching them. It would have almost been funny if it wasn’t so dramatically out of character.
The line weaved around the more rambunctious classes, maintaining their grave expressions and quiet pace. They reached their spot on the sidewalk, and Y/N didn’t even have to say anything. Spencer watched as the line took their spots behind her. She held one hand up to acknowledge parents as they pulled up, murmuring stoic goodbyes to students as they headed to their vehicles.
He hung back at the hood of the car until the majority of the class was gone, slowly making his way across the parking lot. Y/N’s line of sight was pointed in his direction, but her eyes were unfocused in the afternoon sun. He could see the moment that she registered his presence, her eyes widening slightly and bottom lip releasing from the place she’d been absentmindedly chewing. She shifted her weight as he closed the final few feet between them.
“Hi.” She held a silent hand up in greeting. He clenched and unclenched his fingers. “Rough day?”
“It’s not always sunshine and rainbows, despite what everyone thinks,” she snapped. She blew out a breath and rolled her eyes up to the perfectly blue sky, mocking her mood. “I’m sorry. Yes, it was a rough day.”
“You don’t need to apologize.”
“You don’t deserve my wrath.” She gestured vaguely in the direction of the students. “They didn’t either, but— too late for that.”
He watched as she lowered her head back down, rubbing a hand over her face. He desperately wanted to slay whatever dragons had given her normally brilliant eyes such a grey cast. “You have strong relationships with them, and kids are resilient. I’m sure they know you—”
“Please— don’t.” Her voice was thick, and she looked at him with desperate eyes. “I— I appreciate the thought, but I’m— I’m a frustrated crier.” Her shining irises proved her point. “And I’m just— I’m really just trying to keep it together for the last four minutes of my contract time.” Her words were practically a whisper, and she swallowed thickly and glanced down the line, just Michael and one classmate left, eyes downcast.
“I understand.” Spencer shoved his hands in his pockets to keep them from reaching out and touching her. “I’m sorry. I— I hope your weekend is better than today.”
Michael slowly left the line, murmuring a quiet goodbye to Y/N. Spencer put a hand on his shoulder and steered him toward the car, stealing one last glance at a crushed Y/N.

Re: Re: Volunteering
Hi,
I meant to respond to this email, and then a bunch of things happened, and then I was out all week.
I don’t know if you even still want to volunteer after this afternoon, but it felt rude to not respond at all.
I’ve attached the background check form to this email in case you’re still interested.
Y/N
1 Attachment: Background Check
Hi,
I meant what I said this afternoon. Your students love you, and they know you love them. If my conversation with Michael in the car was any indication, they’re feeling rightfully embarrassed and guilty about their behavior while you were out.
Regardless of what happened today, your relationships with your students are strong enough that they will come to school tomorrow knowing that you still care about them. Children don’t hold onto things nearly as much as adults.
It would be a privilege to volunteer in your classroom, even on the worst day.
Spencer

If I wasn’t already crying, I would be now.
Thanks for that.
No sarcasm intended. Really. Thank you.
This might be inappropriate, and if it is, please just pretend like this email doesn’t exist.
I have a favorite cafe in the DuPont circle area, Soho Tea & Coffee. They have an excellent tea drink made with honey and milk that I like to order whenever I’ve had a particularly difficult day.
If you’re up for it, it’s on me.

DECEMBER 23RD, 2019 | 17:34
[17:34] she's my girlfriend: just to push it a few hours... or maybe rain check for tomorrow? promise to make it up to you.
“'We'll go to the place you like this time, hm?'” Jimin reads the thread of messages flooding his phone sent from you out loud. Back slouched against the couch, mind working a mile a minute to figure out what kind of emergency could Miju be having right now. And why were you always so willing to drop everything to be there for her.
Being bitter was the last thing that he wanted. Rocky roads with your best friend are something that takes a long while to sort out for girls, he could see that. Just hoped that you'd soon realize that something's gotta give. That he wouldn't always be so keen on letting Miju shift the plans that he made for the two of you.
All of this could definitely be fueled by the fact he's now pushing telling you what he should have a long while ago until the next time you were both free to spend time together. It won't be that bad, right?
[17:36] to – she's my girlfriend: yeah, baby. it's fine. if things clear up before late, let me know nd ill come pick you up.
The best he could do at this point, he'd just wait for you to have a free moment. He was done pushing this off, knew that speaking to you should've been at the top of his list since he found out about it. Would've been able to do it today if it wasn't for Miju. Would there ever be a time where he wasn't falling second to her?
“What's with the scowl on you face?” Yoongi's voice is breaking through Jimin's thoughts as he crosses the living room, entering the kitchen. He rummages through the cabinets before pulling down a box of cereal, head cocked to be able to see Jimin who's shifting his position on the couch.
“Yn canceled on me.” Saying it out loud made him feel shittier than he had been originally. What kind of boyfriend couldn't buck up when their girl had important matters to tend to? Got sulky because she needed to handle an emergency. At least she had the decency to text him about it, right?
You could've just stood him up.
Yoongi doesn't stop the snorted laughter that falls from his lips, shaking a large amount of cereal into an even larger bowl. He moves toward the fridge to fish out the half-finished carton of milk he hid behind Joonie's growing vegetable collection.
“What she finally get tired of you?” A lighthearted joke directed to his best friend that has Jimin's eyes rolling instantly. He rises to enter the kitchen where his friend had just sat at the island.
See? Why couldn't girls make up like this? Had, had his own dispute with Yoongi weeks ago and they were back on speaking terms – the normal way. No need for some serious sit down that wasted both of their time. Just the understanding of who was in the wrong and the changes that needed to be made to fix it.
Girls were too emotional, always wanted to talk and talk about everything when really?? telling someone when they're being an asshole is the most effective form of friendship counseling in Jimin's opinion.
“Yeah, right. She's crazy about me.” Jimin gloats, reaching for the cereal box Yoongi had left out and pulling a handful out. “That girl had some type of emergency so she wanted to reschedule... help her sort it out,” He shrugs his shoulders, opening his palm to pick out the marshmallow pieces instead.
“Her friend? You mean Miju?” Nodding, Jimin drops the cardboard tasting pieces back into the box, dusting his hands off in front of him. “Wait. Miju told Yn that she had an emergency which made Yn cancel on you?”
With a short laugh and a roll of his eyes, Jimin is nodding again. “Yes, that's what I just said. You feeling alright, buddy?” He teases, not noticing the perplexed look on his best friend's face.
It takes a few short seconds for Yoongi to put the pieces together, eyes widening at his realization. There's no way she'd do anything like that, right? He had been talking to her for weeks and it seemed like she had given up on her whole 'catch them in the act' plan. But this wasn't catching them in the act, this was just... wrong?
And there was Jimin, no the wiser, picking marshmallow pieces out of the cereal box without a care in the world. He had to tell him. That's what any self-respecting best friend would do. Especially with the growing regret in the pit of his belly, the knowledge of the mistake he made with letting the information slip.
The last thing he thought Miju would do was try and ruin this for Yn. Had it set in his mind that if she was able to get through this maturely with his help then she'd start looking at him the way that he had hoped she would. Maybe he was wrong.
That was a conversation for later, though. Right now, he had to prepare Jimin for the shit storm that was coming. The shit storm that he had unintentionally caused when he refused to mind his business.
“I don't think Miju actually has an emergency...”

 With a quick tap to your thumb over the blue button, your promise to try and make it tonight was being sent to your boyfriend. Ooh, your boyfriend. Just thinking sent a flutter through your chest.
Your boyfriend. Jimin. Park Jimin was your boyfriend. Yours. And you were his. And finally, you were starting to feel comfortable with him. Despite everything. It was like nothing could put a damper on the shine in your heart.
Not even the walk up to Miju's front door, knowing the conversation you were about to have. The conversation that you were going to have to force onto her no matter how much she tried to fight it. You were done feeling guilty, you were done lying to her. Finally ready to just be at peace with Jimin and if she wanted to support you great, but if not?? too bad.
Definitely, Jeongguk speaking, but you were sticking to it. If she didn't want to support you, then too bad!
The front door is swinging open before you even have the chance to knock. Miju stands opposite of you, wearing a pair of frilly shorts and a tank top despite the chilly weather outside. She greets you with a large smile, waving you into her warm home while stepping out of the way for you to enter.

“You told her!?” Words can't describe how angry... how betrayed Jimin feels right now. Out of all the low things he could imagine someone he had referred to as a close friend doing to him? This had to be the lowest.
It wasn't a secret that he wasn't a huge fan of Miju, so why did Yoongi think that it would be a good idea to share his business with her? All because of his stupid crush? A crush that was pretty much one-sided at this point. The boy needed to open his eyes and realize that she was using him. For this exact purpose.
“Listen, I didn't think-” Yoongi starts, but Jimin is cutting his words. “Didn't think what? That she'd do something irrational with the information you've given her? Use what she knows as a way to hurt Yn, you didn't think she'd do that? And for what reason?”
Jimin was the most laid back in the house, what pissed him off pissed him off but he was never one to raise his voice. Always one to keep a level head in an argument, careful not to let words slip that might ruin things in the long run.
But right now and lately? It's like Yoongi has been testing his patience almost on purpose. For what? He had no clue, but he was starting to get tired of it. And it was starting to show.
Yoongi could see it. That he had royally fucked up. That Miju wasn't the person that he thought she was and it would take a lot more than just a few late night conversations to get her to see the error in her ways.
Her only focus was getting back at Yn for humiliating her and sleeping with Jimin. Nothing else mattered. No one else mattered. He was starting to see that now.
“I've been talking to her and she seemed-” Yoongi stops himself this time, the fact that he's been keeping quiet contact sort of a secret up until this point. Knew that it wouldn't sit well with his friends if they knew he was getting close to them who they all perceived to be the bad guy.
She never seemed all that bad to him, though.
“Jimin, be honest. Do you think she'd really go ahead and tell Yn? I mean, you guys were pretty fucked up for going behind her back – but do you really think she'd stoop that low?” Yoongi's words have Jimin's eyebrows lifting, hiding underneath his bangs.
What type of seed did that girl plant in his best friends head that had his mind all screwed up? Could he not see the blaring signs right in front of him? Was he just that against lying or was he really this pussy whipped?
Level headed, level headed. “Are you really trying to blame me right now?” He tries not to hiss his words but can't help the way they slip through his teeth. “Yes, Yn was wrong for lying about our relationship and I guess I was wrong for going along with it. But-,”
Hit with a sudden headache, Jimin is stopping his words. Hands washing over his face as he paces around the kitchen. A sigh leaves Yoongi's lips, his butt sliding off of his seat to make his way over to his friend.
“Look, Jimin. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything,” It really had been an accident. He didn't agree with how Jimin was going about things, but he would never sell him out like that. They were best friends, it just came out. And he's telling him all of that, Jimin only half-listening past his racing thoughts.
Desperately trying to figure out how he was going to fix the mess that was being made right now as they stood here talking. “I need to call her,” Rushing to find his phone, Jimin is quick to scroll through his messages to find your contact.

“You came fast,” Miju notes with a smile, watching as you loosen the belt of your light coat, pulling it from your shoulders. It falls heavy on the couch with the added weight from your phone in the pocket. “Yeah, you said it was an emergency.” You nod, taking a moment to peak around for any 'emergency signs'.
The air is tense, tight. Suffocating in a way. There's this awkward silence looming over the two of you as she stands there staring with those big accusing eyes of hers. Clearing your throat, you reach your hand up to push your hair back.
“What's the emergency?” You wonder, generally curious what had her texting you 911 when everything seemed fine?
The usual pout that she wears settles on her lips, eyebrows furrowing slightly to add to the whole look. “It's in the kitchen.” She turns without another word, leading you out of the living room and into the kitchen.
And you follow behind her, eyes landing on the mess littering the kitchen counter. “I have nobody to make everything but the kitchen sink cookies with me.” Her arms spread out at all the different ingredients she has laid out, peaking over her shoulder to shoot a large smile in your direction.
“We use to make these all the time when we were younger, remember? And this morning I woke up craving them, which is so weird because I never crave sweets.” She's moved to the other side of the counter, picking up the half beaten bowl of batter she left out. “And who better to share these treats with than my best friend, right?” She smiles, but there's something else written in it.
You don't have a second to analyze it because she's waving you over with a wooden spoon, handing you the utensil once you're close enough.
“Was this really it? I had plans tonight...” Despite the disappointment in your tone, you're still taking the spoon from her hand, reaching for the bowl that she had kindly set out for you.
Miju's ears perk at the mention of your plans, wondering if you'd actually let it slip what you had intended to be doing tonight. “Plans? Who with?” She asked, feigning curiosity, although she knew all the answers to her questions.
“Just plans. And when you said emergency, I didn't imagine you meant baking cookies?” Not paying much attention to your words, Miju busies herself with reaching for the sugar, measuring some out into her bowl.
“It's not about the cookies, it's about our friendship, Yn.” Her attention quickly shifts to you, pinning you with that 'duh' expression that she likes to pull when it seemed like people just weren't getting it.
Your friendship. Right. So right now is as good as time as any. If she had been thinking about your friendship recently, then she'd maybe take the news well, right? Not blow it out of proportion once you're able to give her all the details, remind her how much you thought about your friendship the entire time. How hard it made things for you. Jimin. And that you were done lying and sneaking around, that you were ready to come clean to her. For the sake of your friendship.
“Actually, it's funny you say that, because-”
Her words overlap yours in panicked haste, bowl clambering onto the counter, the large spoon falling suit. “And I've been really sad, lately!” As expected, she's hitting you with a large pair of sad eyes, paired with a pouted lip. She doesn't wait for you to ask what's wrong, she doesn't need to. Know that you'd listen despite the fact you were literally in the middle of a sentence.
“I know we haven't really been talking to each other, about boys and stuff... but I found out earlier that.” She pauses, reaches to push the loose strands out of her face. “Jimin is moving... to New York! And things have been so weird?? with him lately. I'm just- I can't believe he's leaving.” There's a whine in her voice, paired with a stomped foot.
But your mind is so far from whatever fit she's throwing. Eyes blinking slowly as you try to register the words that had just come out of her mouth. Jimin was leaving? Like moving, leaving? Packing up and going to New York... and he didn't tell you?
No way he wouldn't tell you something huge like this. No way he'd leave you clueless for God knows how long until you're finding out in your best friend's messy kitchen in the midst of making cookies. No way he'd do that.
“Jimin's leaving? How do you know that?” She must've got the wrong information, overheard it wrong. Jimin wasn't leaving. He wouldn't just leave and not say a word to you about it.
She's raising her shoulder in a slight shrug, eyes focused on the thickening cookie batter. “Yoongi told me.” Yoongi? As in Jimin's best friend? So if he was saying it then it had to be true, right?
“Yoongi told you? Or you just heard it?”
Miju's sucking her teeth at your pestering, facing you to get a good look at your face. Taking in the distraught crinkle of your brow, the frown on your lips, the widening of your eyes. “He told me. Jimin is moving to New York. Next semester.” She repeats, slowly just in case you couldn't hear.
Her brow furrows in mock confusion, head tilting to the side slightly. “Why do you look like that? Does Jimin moving mean anything to you?” She lets out a laugh to add to her facade. “I should be the one frowning. I mean, it's my crush moving six thousand eight hundred and sixty-three miles away. I looked it up.”
Miju doesn't take her eyes away from your face, lifting her hand to suck the batter from her thumb. You can only imagine how you look right now, could literally feel your heart shattering in your chest at the thought of Jimin being so far away.
Being so far away and not telling you about it. There was no telling the way it showed on your face right now. “You're getting really worked up over a guy that you're not even interested in, Yn.” She pushes, dropping her spoon again to set her hands on her hips, looking at you expectantly.
Jimin was leaving and he didn't tell you. He kept it from you. He lied to you. The two of you didn't lie to each other. Maybe to other people together, but never to each other. And here was Miju, staring at you – enjoying this all too much. She knew, didn't she?
That's why she had invited you over. That's why she made up this whole stupid cookie emergency. What? Did she want to rub it in your face? 'You may have stolen my crush but he's been lying to you this entire time'. Well, she won.
“Are you mad? That's so weird. You're mad?” She continues and you can feel your blood boiling just from the sound of her voice.
Droning on in your ear as if she had no end. Asking if you were mad, wondering why you would be mad about someone that you had no involvement with whatsoever moving away. Why would you even have an opinion on the matter whatsoever? It's not like you're the one that's in the love with him – and that's where you snap.
“God quit it! Alright!? I'm with Jimin, okay? Is that what you wanted to hear? He's my boyfriend. Happy?” Voice much louder than you had intended it to be and you see her flinch from the way you're yelling at her.
Yet, you can't stop yourself. Can't find it in you to use your inside voice. “Is that why you called this whole fake emergency? Not two fucks given about 'saving our friendship', or whatever bullshit you made up. Just wanted a chance to get back at me?”
“You've been lying to me for weeks, yn! And you're supposed to be my best friend!? Best friends don't lie to each other.” You don't bother to mask the bitter laugh that falls from your lips.
Best friend. Best friend. The way she threw the word around as if it meant nothing. Treated it like it meant nothing. Just a label. Only close because you lived that way, but all the other best friend elements? Zero to none. The way she went out of your way to do all of this just proved it, more than anything.
“Are you supposed to be mine? Have you ever stopped to think why I felt like I had to hide this from you, huh? Or did you even think about how much it was killing me knowing how badly this would hurt you? Because that's the last thing that I wanted to do.” You're not yelling anymore, voice oddly level. And it's more off-putting than the sound of your shout.
“And I bet you thought I jumped at the chance to be with him, huh? Did you think for a second that I tried to fight my feelings for in, for your sake, and couldn't? Fuck all of that, right? Why would you have to worry about that, it's not like it matters, right? No, fuck the fact that I've actually fallen in love with the guy – which is much more serious than a stupid crush, might I add. Fuck all of that, because it makes you unhappy, right?”
There's more at the tip of your tongue, so much more than you've been holding back for the past seventeen years. Things that you didn't even think had bothered you before, but it's like the list keeps going on and on. You want to lay it all out, but your head is such a mess and it feels like everything is slipping all at once.
Tightness growing in your chest and spreading to your cheeks, eyes feeling heavy like they always do before you start crying. Sad about Jimin. This stupid friendship that you wanted so badly to save. Realizing that you had been the only one that cared that much.
“You don't love him. You were just trying to take him away from me like you always do...” Her words have your eyes bulging out of your head, jaw-dropping in disbelief. This girl really didn't quit, huh?
“What?” You try because maybe you didn't hear her right. Maybe she didn't disregard all of what you had managed to get out, focusing on the one bit that had absolutely nothing to do with her. “Name one thing that I've ever taken from you, Miju. Because how I remember it I've been bending over backward just to keep you from falling apart.”
She scoffs, rolls her big eyes before answering. “Yeah, exactly. You were always looking down on me. 'Ooh, poor little girl can't take care of herself, let me swoop in'. Always two steps behind me all the time, making sure nothing happens, protecting me when I never asked you to!”
“You're mad because I looked out for you?” Disbelief is evident in your tone. Slightly convinced that she might be joking, because if she was really mad about something like that then she should've learned to hold herself up a long time ago.
Not made it seem like she was so needy all the time, acting helpless until you were forced to swoop in and fix everything. Like you always did. Without a moment of hesitation, but not anymore. Way past over it. Over the worrying. Over this fight. Over this conversation. Over her.
“I can't do this,” You're deciding with a shake of your head, a defeated raise of your arms. “I can't even be around your right now.” You're turning to leave the kitchen, scooping up your jacket discarded earlier.
Miju is hot on your trail, flops hitting against the hardwood as she moves to catch up with you. “Wait. Where are you going?” You don't say anything as you pull your jacket back on, her being the least of your worries at this point.
There were more important things than this childish back and forth with her. You had tried to tell her, the right way – maturely. She didn't want that, and instead came up with this whole plan to do what exactly? Hurt you as you had done to her? Make you feel humiliated? Great, she did it.
Got her way like she always did, you just couldn't bring yourself to care like you always do. “I'm going to see my boyfriend.” Eyes piercing as you lift your gaze to her, tightening the bow on your coat before turning and exiting her house.
Letting the door slam behind you without bothering to look back.
PART TWO OUT TOMORROW!

Miles & Black Coffee - Part One
Tumblr media
“When you’re on a golden sea, You don’t need no memory, Just a place to call your own, As we drift into the zone...”
-Island in the Sun by Weezer
Hello, and welcome to part one of M&BC! She’s split up into parts, a day late, and a bit rusty... but she’s here! It’ll be my first new piece of writing since I rejoined tumblr, so it’s a bit nerve-wracking. Thank you to Kate @andwhenshesays, Anne @oh-honey-styles, and Anna @for-fucks-sake-h for organizing this entire challenge, you’ve brought so much joy to our little tumblr community. We love you all dearly ♥️ (4.5k words)

Warnings: mild drinking, mild drug use (just weed)
You and Harry would never be friends. You were up and down, night and day, oil and water. You just didn’t mesh. He was your roommate’s insufferable older brother, and that is all he would ever be. Well, at least that’s what you thought before….
or
the one with campfire conversations, cabin getaways, and enemies that were never really enemies after all.
MONDAY
Pine trees and cornfields flew by in a blur as you stared out the window of your roommate’s minivan. Every once in a while, there’d be a pasture of cows or a horse ranch. It had been exciting at first, but now you were just bored.
“How much longer?” You called over the music, trying to keep the whine from your voice. It had been hours since you left your apartment this morning, and you’d only stopped once to stretch your legs and take a bathroom break.
“The GPS says we still have an hour and a half to go,” Callie groaned, stepping a bit harder on the gas pedal.
Normally, you loved road trips, but this particular drive was more cramped than you’d bargained for. There were seven girls packed into the van, and you’d been unfortunate enough to get squished into the backseat with your twin sister and her girlfriend, who hadn’t stopped with the obnoxious PDA since the car got on the freeway.
You took a deep breath and closed your eyes, trying to will away your nauseating carsickness. This week had been marked into your calendar for months, and you’d be damned if you let this god-awful car ride ruin it for you.
Callie, your college roommate, had a cabin in northern Wisconsin that she’d been raving about for years. She’d been going there with her family for decades, every summer since pre-school, she’d said. According to her, it was a beautiful property, equipped with a private lakeside beach, fire pit, and a full bar.
It was going to be the perfect getaway. You and Callie had rounded up all of your girlfriends, packed all of the essentials for a spa night, junk food, board games, movies. You’d packed four swimsuits just in case; the weather forecast looked fantastic, high seventies and low eighties all week long.
It was going to be the perfect vacation. Well, almost perfect.
Harry was going to be there.
Harry, the constant thorn in your side. Harry, Callie’s older brother. Harry, the one who eats all of your food whenever he visits. Harry, the one who constantly picked fights with you. You and him had never gotten along, not even for a second.
There wasn’t a single person alive who got on your nerves more than he did. Generally, you got along with most people, but Harry was the exception to the rule. You couldn’t seem to shake him off.
You weren’t about to let him ruin this trip, though. There were going to be fourteen people staying at the cabin, so it should be a piece of cake to avoid him for a week; there were plenty of other people to interact with. And even if you couldn’t avoid him, you were going to let his inevitable snarky comments roll off of your back. Well, you’d try to, at least.
Perhaps that’s what annoyed you most about him, the reaction you’d have from the smallest fight. With anyone else, it was water under the bridge… with Harry, you thought about it for days afterwards, thinking of better comebacks you should’ve said or ways you could have changed your schedule to steer clear of him altogether. He made your skin prickle with irritation, and turned you into somebody you didn’t like very much.
It had been months since you’d seen him, not that you’d been keeping track. He typically visits Callie a few times a semester, but his senior year was more intense than he had anticipated, according to his sister. He just couldn’t spare the two hour drive from his university to yours.
But now it was summertime. Gone were the papers, projects, and responsibilities… it was finally time to relax and have fun. You only had one year of college left before graduation, so you and your friends wanted to make the most of it. Harry and his friends had just graduated, so they were at the cabin for their last hurrah before real life kicked in.
If you were being honest with yourself, you were excited that Harry was bringing some of his frat brothers along. You and your ex had just ended things recently, and you were finally feeling ready to get back into the dating game. Being trapped in a cabin with a handful of cute guys felt like a dream.
Finally, after what felt like centuries, Callie slowed the car down and turned onto a dirt road. The other girls in the car started desperately peering out the window to get a glimpse of the lake and surrounding forest.
The moment the cabin came into view, your jaw dropped. You knew Callie’s parents were loaded, but this hardly looked like the rustic getaway you were expecting. There were three buildings, each labelled with a birch bark sign. Two speedboats and a pontoon were docked at the beach, inflatable tubes and paddleboards littered around the sand nearby.
It wasn’t until Callie parked and shut off the engine that you heard a heavy bass thrum coming from the building marked MAIN CABIN. The other two buildings were labelled GUEST CABIN and SHOWER HOUSE. You were snapped out of it when Olivia and Jane, who had been sitting in the middle bucket seats, swung their sliding doors open and practically fell onto the ground.
“I don’t think I remember how to walk normally,” Charlie, a girl from your art history class, groaned, “like, we were sitting in that car for so long….”
“Oh, shush,” your sister, Morgan, scoffed, “at least you got to sit up front. I was crammed into the back between these two.”
Both you and her girlfriend, Isobel, huffed in protest, but it wasn’t worth picking a fight over. You’d have plenty of time to bicker later. For now, the fresh air and cool breeze were like heaven after a long road trip.
“The boys beat us here,” Callie remarked.
Sure enough, there were two other cars already parked in the driveway. Back behind the main cabin, a plume of smoke rose into the air. You could hear loud laughter, loud enough to drown out the trap music they had playing.
“They’ve started a bonfire!” Olivia squealed, clasping her hands in front of her chest. “I’m ready to get partying… it’s four in the afternoon and I’ve spent all day in a car. I need a drink.”
A few others were laughing and nodding in agreement, already making their way towards the boys, but you hung back. You’d party later, but after spending an entire day stuck with six other people, you just wanted to be alone. Plus, you wanted to drink tonight, and you’d never get around to unpacking your bag if you were wasted.
You managed to dig your duffel bag out from the pile of luggage in the trunk, letting it fall to the ground with a thump. Callie had just been finishing up with a phone call when you looked up.
“Hey, you’re not joining the others?” She asked. “I was about to head over, they’ve got a fire going. Just had to call my mum to let her know we made it.”
“I’ll join in a bit,” you promised “but I want to unpack my things first… where are we all staying?”
“You’re in the main cabin, I have you sharing a room with Charlie, is that okay?” She questioned. You nodded quickly, relief flooding over you. You liked all of the girls who came on the trip, but Charlie was by far the easiest to get along with. “Harry and I each have our own room in the main cabin, too, so you won’t be alone. Everyone else is in the guest cabin, though.”
“The guest cabin,” you giggled, slinging your bag over your shoulder as Callie lead you into the main building, “this place is swanky, Cal.”
“We host all of our family reunions here,” she shrugged, “we need lots of space. Plus it’s fun for occasions like this… we’re just lucky my dad is letting us use the boats. He treats those things like they’re his own children, only Harry is allowed to drive them this week.”
You made a face at the mention of her brother. “I’ll be staying far away from the boats, then.”
“Oh god,” Callie groaned, “I know you two don’t get along very well, but please try to be civil… we’re here for a whole week, after all.”
“I’m always civil,” you protested innocently, “it’s him you need to worry about.”
“Always civil,” she scoffed, “we both know that’s not true, but I’ll let it slide.”
Okay, so maybe you had a slight temper when it came to Harry, but nine times out of ten, he was the one who started the argument. You were never the type to actively seek out conflict, but Harry seemed to thrive off of it. Whether it was eating all the food from your half of the fridge, throwing his dark blue t-shirt in with your load of whites, or playing his guitar in your living room until three in the morning when you had a test the next day… it felt like he was out to get you.
And he was never apologetic. Of course not. He probably got off on watching steam blow from your ears.
You took a deep breath as Callie led you up a wooden staircase, trying not to let yourself get worked up. The cabin was gorgeous from what you’d seen on the main floor. Though you hadn’t lingered, you’d noticed that there was a bookshelf that took up an entire wall, packed to the brim with books with faded spines, vinyl records with worn edges, and an assortment of candles and bookends sprinkled throughout randomly. You couldn’t wait to explore the entire property.
Photographs lined the walls of every hallway, snapshots of Harry and Callie running around as kids. There was a hilarious picture of a young Harry crying as he held a fishing pole, a bare hook dangling from the line. The Styles family clearly had a great sense of humor. You made a mental note to take a photo of it on your phone later; it would be perfect ammo for the next fight that Harry would inevitably start.
“This is the bathroom…” she drawled, “no shower though. We all just use the shower house, which isn’t really as bad as it sounds. Just make sure you bring clothes with you, otherwise you’ll have to walk across the lawn in just your towel.”
You grimaced at the thought. As she continued to lead you down the hall, you saw two doors, one with CALLIE’S ROOM written in bright pink bubble letters, and the second with a wooden plaque, the word HARRY written in what was clearly a child’s handwriting.
“This is technically my parents’ room, but we use it as a guest room if it’s just us kids,” Callie explained, stopping at the last door in the hallway, “they have a king bed, so I figured you and Charlie could just share.”
“That’s fine,” you assured her, not hesitating to drop your heavy duffel onto the side of the bed closest to the window, “this place is awesome, Callie.”
“Right?” She grinned. “I’m stoked for the week, it’s gonna be so fun.”
“You should go down to the bonfire,” you told her, placing a hand on your bag, “I’ll come join as soon as I’m done.”
Luckily, your roommate of two years understood that you needed alone time sometimes, so she left you without protest.
This was exactly the recharge time that you needed. You were the kind of person who loved being around friends, but there was only so much socializing you could handle before you needed a break to be on your own. Even though you hadn’t spoken much on the ride to the cabin, being squished into a mini-van with six other girls drained your social battery. Giving yourself a moment to breathe and relax was necessary if you were going to rejoin the group.
Pressing the shuffle play button on your spotify, you smiled when the soft melody of your favorite folk song thrummed through your headphones. You swayed from side-to-side as you unzipped your bag, which had been packed to perfection.
Four swimsuits, a different outfit for each day (plus a few extra items… overpacking is better than underpacking), sunscreen, bug spray, all of your toiletries. It was fun to organize everything into the empty wardrobe by the window; looking at all of your stuff just made you more excited to be here.
Time flew by as you danced around the room. Most of your things were put away, and you’d stashed your empty bag under the bed. The one thing you hadn’t put away yet was your assortment of swimsuits. It had been difficult picking out which ones you wanted to bring, but you’d settled on three bikinis and a one-piece with the sides cut out. You were itching to change out of your leggings and t-shirt; they felt gross against your skin after sitting in the van all day.
Just as you went to pick up your navy blue sequined bikini top, a hand abruptly clamped down on your shoulder.
“Holy shit!” You spun around on your heels, hand flying to cover your beating heart. You were less than pleased to find Harry standing there, wide-eyed and trying to mask his amusement by biting down on his lip.
“Didn’t mean to sneak up on you,” he chuckled, “forgot how jumpy you are.”
“I’m not jumpy,” you frowned, pulling your headphones out of your ears and crossing your arms over your stomach, “what are you doing in here?”
“Nice to see you too,” he scoffed, dimple indenting into his cheek, “I was just using the loo, then I was gonna go back to the party, where we’re having fun. Foreign concept to you, I’m sure.”
You rolled your eyes, turning around so he couldn’t see how hard you were scowling. He always knew just what to say to get your blood boiling.
“Are you implying that I don’t know how to have fun, Harry?” You asked sarcastically.
“Ah, I knew you were smarter than you looked,” he grinned. “Cute swim top.”
It was only then that you noticed his attire. Well, lack of attire. He was wearing the smallest swimming shorts you’d ever seen, his chest tanned from the sun and completely bare apart from a single cross necklace that hung over his sternum. His hair had grown out since the last time you saw him, and it looked a bit ridiculous with his sunglasses on top of his head.
He looked good, not that you’d ever admit it. Luckily, you were fantastic at masking your wandering eyes; he had a tendency of walking around your apartment in his boxers during visits, so you’d had plenty of practice.
“Shut up,” you groaned, throwing the bikini top back onto the bed. You’d been planning on wearing that one, but Harry ruined it with his gross comment, just like he ruins most things for you.
“I’m quite incapable of shutting up,” he mused, throwing himself down onto your side of the bed, “you should know this by now.”
“Trust me,” you were completely unamused, still standing with your arms crossed over your stomach, “I’m well aware.”
“You should come join the party,” he continued speaking as if you hadn’t said anything, seemingly unfazed by how visibly irritated you were, “it’s the first day and you’re already being a buzzkill. Maybe you should try like… try stepping out of your comfort zone, just for the week.”
“Thank you so much for that lovely unsolicited advice,” you said sarcastically, “now if we’re talking about comfort zones, you laying on my bed is definitely out of mine.”
“Please, you love me on your bed,” he smirked, closing his eyes, “this is a dream come true for you.”
“Are you delusional?” You were running out of patience. “Did you hit your head?”
“Why?” He said innocently. “Are you thinking about playing nurse? Because I hate to break your heart, but I’m not into wet blankets. Maybe if you loosened up a bit.”
If he wasn’t gone in thirty seconds, you were going to scream. He seemed to be enjoying himself, arms crossed behind his head with a twinkle in his eye as you stared daggers at him.
“Are you quite done?” You spit. “I can feel my IQ dropping every time you speak. Plus, I need to change before I come down.”
“Ooh, can I watch?” He waggled his eyebrows.
That was it. “Harry, get out, okay?”
“Jeez, okay, fine,” he grumbled, rolling clumsily off of the bed, “so bossy, you are.”
You pointed a finger towards the door, leveling him with the steeliest glare you could muster. “Out,” you repeated.
“You should come down sooner rather than later,” he said, completely unbothered, “I’m sure you’ll be much nicer once you’ve had a drink or two.”
He was gone before you could think of a response. The annoyance bubbling inside you was so intense, you felt like you wanted to break something. Instead, you punched your pillow a few times to release some tension, taking a deep breath to compose yourself after.
You wrinkled your nose at the blue bikini top, choosing to wear an orange floral patterned one instead. You’d never give Harry the satisfaction.
~~~
The fire was absolutely roaring.
It was perfect. The fire pit was lined with wooden logs, the tops shaved off to make benches. There was hardly enough space for all fourteen of you, but you managed to squeeze in as you all roasted corn and hot dogs over the fire. It wasn’t too windy, so you didn’t have to worry about smoke blowing into your eyes, but the bugs were relentless.
The air around you smelled of smoke, bug spray, and good food. There were a few different conversations happening, and every once in a while, a few people would break out into loud, contagious laughter.
Harry had tried to talk to you when you came down, but you’d avoided him like the plague. You had absolutely nothing nice to say to him after his snarky comments in your room, and any further interaction with him at this point would just end in disaster. Thankfully, he was quickly distracted by some of his frat brothers, and he hadn’t tried to approach you again all night.
Now, you were chatting with Olivia and one of the boys, Luke. By the time you’d gone down to the bonfire, everyone was several drinks in. You’d been forced to play catch-up by way of tequila shots, so you had a pleasant buzz running through your veins.
“This is a perfect summer night,” you sighed happily, pulling your skewer from the flames to keep your corn from burning.
“Almost perfect,” a boy named Archie corrected, “we haven’t been out on the lake yet.”
Harry and three of the other boys had arrived a night early to get the boats ready, and now that Archie mentioned it, the pontoon was looking mighty tempting. The sun hadn’t fully set, but dusk was beginning to settle in, blanketing the forest with pink and orange hues, a gorgeous reflection of the sunset above you. It was the perfect time to go out on the water.
“How do we feel about the pontoon?” You wondered out loud. There was no way you’d all fit, but you could go in groups.
“It’s too buggy to be on the water,” Callie wrinkled her nose, “I’m getting eaten alive as it is.”
“I’m down, as long as I can smoke a spliff while we’re out there,” James, one of the other boys, shrugged, “obviously I’ll share, I brought tons.”
A few others around the circle chimed in with their interest, and before you knew it, people were standing up to make their way over to the docks. You weren’t the best with names, but much to your relief, you’d introduced yourself to everyone going on the boat. Obviously, you already knew Morgan and Isobel, and were somewhat friendly with Jane, Archie, and James.
“I’ll come along, too,” a voice behind you yawned. When you turned around, you immediately felt yourself melt. Ryan, a boy you’d had a single class with freshman year, was stretching his arms out as he stood up, and he was looking directly at you with a flirtatious smile.
You’d had a major crush on him for the entirety of your class together, but you’d been too shy to say anything to him. He was a whole year older, after all, and that had been intimidating when you were eighteen.
You returned his smile, biting down on your bottom lip shyly.
“I guess I’m going too, then,” Harry sighed, shoving the last of his hot dog into his mouth before dusting his hands off.
Immediately, your face dropped. Harry snorted when he saw your expression, digging around the pocket in his swimsuit to retrieve a key.
“I’m the only one allowed to drive the boats, remember? Dad made me promise.”
Your shoulders slumped. You’d completely forgotten that Callie had mentioned it to you earlier. You weren’t about to turn down a sunset boat ride though, especially now that Ryan was coming along as well.
Everyone scarfed down the rest of their food in a rush as Harry went over to untie the boat and make sure it was good to go. You watched as he leaned far over the edge of the dock, so far that nearly fell face-first into the water before righting himself and trying again..
“Hey,” Ryan had walked next to you, following your line of sight, “he’s gonna fall in, isn’t he?”
“I hope so,” you giggled.
“You were in my History 204 class, weren’t you? Sophomore year?” He asked.
Your entire body flushed. You didn’t think he’d noticed you at all, let alone enough to remember you years later. Having Ryan up at the cabin, talking to you, felt like a dream come true.
“I was a freshman, but yeah, I think so,” you nodded nonchalantly, “I hated that professor.”
“Oh god, same!” He laughed, shaking his head, “such a drag, just constant pop quizzes!”
“Ugh, yes!” You turned your body towards him fully. “And that midterm assignment….”
“Don’t even get me started,” Ryan pretended to shiver in fear.
You laughed loudly, and from the corner of your eye you saw Harry turn to glance in your direction. Upon a closer look, he’d managed to wrangle the boat so it was right up against the dock.
“All aboard!” He shouted.
You rolled your eyes at his ridiculous antics. He always thought he was so funny, especially when you were the butt of his jokes. You hoped he’d be too busy driving to bother you.
Luckily, Ryan seemed keen to stay by your side, even helping you step into the boat by taking your hand to keep you balanced, so Harry didn’t have much of a chance to say anything. By the time the boat was moving, everyone was sitting in a circle on the floor, clipping in the life jackets that Callie had forced us all to wear.
As soon as the wind blew through your hair, you tilted your head up and closed your eyes. Lakes didn’t smell great, but you’d always loved it. It was classic, nostalgic. You’d spent every summer of your life swimming in Midwest lakes, so it felt just like summer.
James was true to his word, and pulled out four fatly rolled joints, passing them around with a lighter. You didn’t do this often, but it felt like the perfect moment. The sun was disappearing fast, and soon enough you’d be able to see the stars.
At some point, Harry slowed the engine down to a gentle hum when the boat reached the middle of the lake, getting a couple of the others to help him throw the anchor over the edge. Afterwards, he moved back over to the driving console and fiddled with a few buttons until quiet, staticky music sounded out. He then sat down across the circle from you, immediately accepting one of the joints from Archie.
You stood up on your knees, and looked around. Water lapped lightly against the sides of the boat, so it took you a moment to find your equilibrium. The silhouette of the tall pines surrounding the lake were awe-striking.
Nobody wanted to break the silence, so you didn’t. The weed was starting to take effect, making your body feel heavy and your head feel light. You started to lay down, unclipping your life jacket to use as a pillow. Slowly, your friends followed your lead, the sounds of shuffling and buckles popping open momentarily interrupting the tranquil silence.
You watched the sky change from pink to a deep blue, only turning your head away when the first stars became visible. Morgan was laying next to you, staring straight up at the sky. To anyone else, she looked like she was lost in thought, but you knew her better than that. There was a slight frown, watery eyes, a little crinkle across her forehead... she was worried about something.
“What are you thinking about?” You asked, trailing a hand down her arm. She let out a long exhale.
“This is gonna sound so soppy,” Morgan sighed, “but I can’t stop thinking about like… how different I would be if I could just, change things about myself.”
“I like you the way you are,” Isobel frowned, sitting up slightly to look at her, “plus, you can change things about yourself. People do it all the time. New hairstyles, piercings, clothes. You could completely rebrand yourself anytime you want.”
“She’s not talking about her appearance,” you said softly, squeezing Morgan’s hand, “she means… like, changing who you are, at your very core. Things you can’t help.”
“I get that,” Ryan chimed in, “I think about that, too. If I could change one thing about myself, I would make myself more motivated. My life would be so different if I could just… alter one tiny thing.”
“Exactly!” Morgan nodded. “I would… make myself less impulsive, I think. I have so many regrets, and it’s all because I never properly think before I act. I’d be so much better off if I could just learn to be more careful.”
“I like how spontaneous you are,” Isobel hummed, “but I think I know what you mean. If I could change anything about myself, I’d make myself less anxious. Anxiety has always held me back so much… I mean, fuck… I haven’t even come out to my family yet, even though I know they’d support me. I’d be so much happier if I could appreciate the good things in life, rather than stress about how to keep them.”
“I’m with Isobel,” Harry spoke. He’d just taken a rather large pull from the joint, so his voice came out rougher than gravel. “Anxiety is such a bitch, and it’s like, out of our control. It’s kept me from talking about my feelings so many times, and I feel like I’ve missed out on some really good friendships because of it.”
Despite the heaviness of the conversation, you felt happier than you had in a long time. You’d smoked just enough to feel numb, and the waves were rocking against the boat so gently that it felt like you were floating. You took a deep breath in through your nose, feeling the crisp forest air fill your lungs before exhaling. The stars were shining in the cloudless sky, crickets were chirping along the shore, and soft music was filtering through the cheap boat stereo. It was peaceful, listening to your friends pour their hearts out.
Each person took a turn sharing what they would change about themselves. Archie would get rid of his bad temper, James would become a better listener, and Jane would be less self-conscious.
“What would you change?” Morgan turned to look at you.
You and your twin sister were very different people. So different, in fact, that you sometimes forgot that you were identical. In moments like this, when her eyes were watery and hooded, voice thick with sadness and hope, that you were reminded of how similar you could be.
“If I could change anything about myself….” you mused, closing your eyes. “I think I would… let things go.”
“Let things go?” Archie echoed.
“Yeah,” you nodded, “like, let go of the past. Whenever something bad happens to me, I let it really get to me. Negative memories and feelings just… constantly eat away at me. I wish I could just wake up in the morning and think about the future… because thinking about the past is exhausting.”
Nobody spoke after your confession. Nobody tried to assure anyone that they would be okay, or convince anyone that they didn’t need to change. There was something comforting about lying in a circle with your friends, your sister… even Harry, because you were all flawed, and none of you knew what the future would bring. You all found solace in the fact that you were here, right now, laying in a circle on a boat, with an old jazz song ringing through the air.
And who knows… maybe someday, you’ll all find a way to change the parts of yourselves that bother you. Maybe you’ll learn to appreciate them. Maybe your flaws will end up helping you in the long run.
But for now, none of you were alone. And that was enough.
It was one of your “off-again” periods, Klaus couch surfing with other people, but you’d be damned if you showed up at your one normal friend’s wedding alone.  So, you knew what you had to do.  Swallowing your pride, you asked him to meet.  You needed a date to this fucking wedding if it killed you and strangely enough the thought of asking anyone else didn’t appeal to you in the slightest.
It would be infinitely easier to ask someone else, hell, even Diego would have probably gone with you if you’d asked him, but damn if you ever made anything easy for yourself.
It definitely wasn’t because you missed Klaus.  No, certainly not because of that.
“Heyyyy [Y/N],” he exclaimed, seeming genuinely happy to see you as he scooted into the booth across from you.
“Hey Klaus,” you replied, instantly drawn in by his effortless charm, your heart filling at the sight of him.
“It’s really good to see you,” he murmured, plopping his chin in his hands, arms resting on the table between you and you couldn’t help the smile that spread across your face.
“It’s good to see you too,” you found yourself saying, your traitorous heart noticing all the tiny details you missed, all the things you loved about him.
“So, to what do I owe this pleasure?” Klaus asked, pulling you from your thoughts.  If he felt guilty about going off on his own again he didn’t show it.
You heaved a sigh, bringing the mug in front of you to your lips as a play for time, if only a couple seconds.  “I have a bit of a favour to ask,” you answered and Klaus cocked a brow, leaning forward intently.
“I see,” he intoned playfully, his eyes sparkling with curiosity, or perhaps just the promise of getting something in return — you weren’t sure which.  “And what sort of favour are we talking here?” he wondered aloud.
Taking a deep breath, you braced yourself for his inevitable rejection and met his eyes.
“I need a date for a wedding.”
Whatever Klaus had expected you to ask, this clearly wasn’t it.
“What?” he spluttered, faltering, “like suit and tie, you may kiss the bride wedding wedding?”  Leaning back, he stroked his goatee, “and you wanna go with me?”
“Y’know what, uh, forget it,” you muttered quickly, running a hand down your face, “I don’t know what I was thinking.  I’ll just ask… someone else.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, hold on,” Klaus exclaimed, holding up his hands and you hesitantly uncovered an eye to peer at him.
“I didn’t say no,” he pointed out and a thoughtful look stole over his face, followed by that smile that never failed to make you slightly weak in the knees.
“Sure, why not.  Besides, I don’t want you to ask anyone else.”
——
You weren’t sure how you’d pulled it off with only a couple days left til your friend’s wedding, but somehow you’d managed to find a suit that fit Klaus, and the day of, as you showed up on his arm, he actually looked presentable and not as if he’d just woke up from a bender and rolled off the couch ten minutes ago.
Glancing over at you Klaus’s eyes flicked quickly down and back up, a grin tugging at his lips.  “Wanna know something?” he asked, leaning close to whisper in your ear.  “You look absolutely ravishing, the bride who?” he teased and you fought back a giddy grin of your own.
“I think you’re a little biased,” you murmured back and Klaus merely shrugged.
“Maybe so,” he admitted, but his hold on your arm as you walked in seemed tighter than before and he eyed anyone askance if their gaze seemed to linger on you too long for his liking.
The rest of the ceremony was a bit of a snoozefest, though your heart gave a small flutter every time you caught Klaus watching you, and as the couple exchanged their vows, Klaus covered his mouth, looking a little teary eyed.  When they finally kissed he let out an excited gasp, grabbing your hand as he leaned into you.
“Awwww!  I always get so choked up at weddings,” he exclaimed with a dreamy sigh as you watched the newlyweds make their way back down the aisle and you rested your head on his shoulder, wearing a soft smile.
——
Sitting at your table at the reception, you let your eyes wander the dancefloor, watching your friend and his new bride dance, their eyes never leaving each other and you wondered what it would be like to one day have that.
Interrupting your thoughts, Klaus returned, two drinks in hand and you took yours with a faint smile, sipping it to take away the sting of such thoughts.  After a few minutes Klaus eyed you thoughtfully.
“Wanna dance, my dear?” he asked, holding out his hand in invitation.
Eyeing it, you tipped back the rest of your drink before taking his hand, letting him pull you out to the floor.  It almost felt as if the two of you had never been apart and if you weren’t slightly tipsy you probably would be cursing yourself for letting him back in so easily.
Spinning you into his arms, Klaus laughed, his eyes crinkling with mirth and you felt your breath catch, your head swimming, and you held onto him tighter.
“I’m glad you asked me to be your date tonight and not someone else,” he admitted, his eyes carefully avoiding yours.
“Oh?” you asked, but before you could get a response your friend tapped you on the shoulder.
“Think I could cut in?” he asked and Klaus ducked his head, stepping back.
“Ah, ah, ah, hands where I can see ‘em now, and no funny business mister,” he exclaimed, wagging his finger at him, though his grin somewhat ruined the effect.
“I would never,” your friend gasped in faux offense, cracking a smile moments later and the two seemed to come to a silent agreement, sizing each other up.
“Guess this means I get to dance with the bride,” Klaus joked, clapping your friend on the shoulder.
Before swanning away he leaned in to press a kiss to your cheek, as if it were the most natural thing in the world and you watched him, dazed, your mouth falling open slightly as he headed toward the bride.  Blinking, you tore your eyes from Klaus’s retreating form and you noticed your friend watching you, an amused expression on his face.
“What?” you demanded, but he only laughed, shaking his head ruefully as he held out his hand for you to take, placing his other hand on your waist.
“Nothing,” he assured you, but the smile he wore said otherwise.
“Out with it,” you insisted wryly as you slowly spun and swayed to the music.
“It’s just nice to see you this happy,” he answered.
“Mhmm,” you mused skeptically, waiting for the rest.
“I just want you to be careful,” he continued, his eyes finding his wife and Klaus across the dancefloor, Klaus dancing rather animatedly and making her laugh.  “I know you’ve been carrying a torch for him for years, and he certainly is charming,” he observed.
“He certainly is,” you agreed softly, and when Klaus turned, catching your eye, he flashed a smile and waved, your heart clenching.
“I just don’t want you to let him hurt you again,” your friend finished and you sighed, turning back to him.
“Yeah, me either.”
——
“I think we should think about finding somewhere to stay tonight,” Klaus suggested as you swerved again and he caught the steering wheel.
“No, I’m fine, Klaus, really,” you tried to assure him, but your words slurred and Klaus shook his head.
“Usually I’m a fan of bad ideas,” he muttered, “but not this one.  I think there was a motel somewhere along this stretch of road,” he mused.
“Motel?” you asked, “I dunno about that…”  Unsure if you trusted yourself, your very drunk self not to make any decisions you might regret the next morning.
Keeping Klaus at arm’s distance was harder than you thought, especially when he looked like that and all you wanted to do was kiss him and never stop.
“Ah, there!” he pointed, and you reluctantly pulled off the road into the half empty parking lot, your vision swimming dangerously.
Okay, maybe he had a point.
“There you go,” he said, “we’ll get some rest and head back in the morning.”
“Look at you being the responsible one for a change,” you slurred.
“Ah ha, well.  I don’t really care if anything happens to me, but you…” he trailed off, shaking his head, continuing in a murmur you weren’t meant to hear.  “If anything happened to you, I’d never forgive myself.”
Helping you out of the car, Klaus led you to the motel office and asked to book a room.  The receptionist looked you both over and grinned sleazily.  “Unfortunately I only have single rooms available,” he said when you insisted on a double, trying to forget the hurt look in Klaus’s eyes.
“That’s fine,” you growled, snatching the key from the man, irrationally annoyed at the universe and it’s sense of humour.
Inside the room you turned your back to Klaus as you slipped off your dress and when you turned back around you found him still struggling with his tie and you clicked your tongue, forgetting you were half naked as you circled the bed to stand in front of him, swatting his hands away to help loosen his tie; your fingers automatically falling next to the buttons at his throat.
Swallowing, Klaus pointedly kept his chin up and his eyes on your face, though you almost wished he’d look anywhere else, his dark rimmed emerald eyes rather distracting and as his hands brushed yours to finish unbuttoning his shirt, you realized just how close to him you were, your cheeks heating swiftly.
Retreating to the other side of the room once more, you crawled under the covers, scooting as far away from the center of the bed as possible.  However when you felt the mattress shift, Klaus crawling into the bed as well and you felt his back touch yours, you held your breath.  After several minutes of awkward silence you heard Klaus sigh.
“You’re still mad at me, aren’t you.”  It wasn’t a question.
Taking a deep breath yourself, you answered him.  “You know I don’t like it when you just leave like that.”
Klaus shifted behind you, but you didn’t dare look back.
“I know,” he said softly, the room falling into silence once more and you were thankful you were still buzzed because it meant sleep came faster than usual.
——
Stirring, the first thing you noticed was the warmth.  As you began to wake more, you noticed the comforting sensation of being held; two strong arms surrounding you and you subconsciously snuggled closer, slotting yourself in where you fit so perfectly.  And when you finally opened your eyes, you gave a start, finding yourself in Klaus’s arms, your head resting on his warm chest, and your legs tangled together with his.
You didn’t remember even turning toward him, but apparently some time in the night you’d both sought each other; the thought of which made your chest ache.
Before you could attempt to untangle yourself from Klaus’s embrace, however, he took a deep breath, his long eyelashes fluttering as he woke and he looked down at you, rather unsurprised.
“Well, good morning,” he moaned, stretching slightly before curling around you once more, resting his chin atop the crown of your head.  “D’you think they have room service here?” he asked, as if he didn’t find this situation unusual in the slightest.
“What?” you asked, shifting to look up at him.
“I could totally go for some breakfast right now, but I’m too comfortable to get up--”
“Klaus,” you murmured weakly, feeling yourself slip, your residual anger at him dissipating in the light of morning.
“-- and we should really get some food in that booze filled belly of yours,” he continued.
Of course he had to go and be an absolute sweetheart when you were trying to keep your distance and not fall for him all over again.
Realizing you didn’t want to fight it any longer, you sighed, letting yourself fully relax into his embrace and Klaus smiled softly, feeling the difference, slowly running his fingers soothingly through your hair.
“Yeah, that does sound good,” you agreed.  “Did you sleep well?” you asked, tilting your head back to nuzzle your nose against his jaw.
“I always sleep better when I’m with you, you know that,” he said, squeezing you tighter.
“Yeah?” you murmured sleepily, “then why don’t you stay at my place for a bit then when we get back?”
“I’d like that,” he replied.
an idea that's been bouncing around my head like the dvd screensaver: fun ghoul x reader, enemies to lovers. reader is taken in by party after she helps him and kobra against a drac ambush. Tension between her and fun bc he thinks shes into party or just him being him? She goes out on a run and doesn't come back for longer than usual-> they think she's dead, he starts wearing her choker she left behind. but surprise she's alive, just barely, and its just super fluffy at the end.
I Don't Believe In Luck
Pairing: Fun Ghoul x Female Reader
Rating: General
Word Count: ~1950
Requested By: Anon
Author's Note: I hope this is sufficiently fluffy for you anon. As always, (YKN) is your Killjoy name.
Tumblr media
Fun Ghoul looked on with annoyance as (YKN) and Party laughed together across the diner. (YKN) was always hanging around Party ever since he brought her back to the diner a few weeks back and Fun couldn't stand it.
Party and Kobra had been on a regular supply run out to Zone 4 when the Trans Am started having problems, but while trying to fix it, the Venom Brothers were ambushed by a carload of Dracs. The way Kobra tells it, (YKN) arrived seemingly out of nowhere and picked off more than her share of Dracs and saved them from getting dusted. In exchange for saving their lives, Party made her a member of their gang since she wasn't running with any other crew.
Fun knew that as the de facto leader of the Fabulous Killjoys, Party had the right to bring anyone into their fold, but it didn't change the fact that it bugged him. Having a girl changed the whole dynamic of the gang and he was pretty certain her presence was a distraction and someone could end up getting hurt. Or at the very least he knew she was distracting him.
(YKN) must have noticed him staring as she glanced over at him. He rolled his eyes and went outside despite the sun beating down, baking the hard, dry desert. He grumbled the whole way back to the shed behind the diner. It wasn’t fair. He couldn’t put his finger on what exactly, but something about it all just wasn't fair.
~
After a few more days of awkwardly ending conversations when the other would walk into the room, and going out of their way to avoid each other, to Fun's relief he heard her leaving on her bike. He sighed, now things were back to normal for a few hours.
But then (YKN) didn't come back. As the sun moved across the sky, a tension headache started building in the back of Fun's head and he hated it. He hated it almost as much as not knowing where (YKN) had gone to. It was nearly sunset when Fun couldn't take it any longer.
“Where has (YKN) been?” Fun asked when he found Party in the kitchen.
“I dunno, maybe she decided she didn't stay here anymore," Party replied pointedly.
"What does that mean?" Fun retorted.
"I thought you'd be glad she's gone," Party answered. "You never made her feel welcome."
Fun was stunned. “Why does it matter how I make her feel? She's your girl, don't you care where she is? She could get dusted and you wouldn’t even know where to find her mask to take back to the mailbox!”
“What the hell do you mean my girl? Me and (YKN) are just friends! We’ve never even hooked up, I’m not into her like that.”
“Really?” Fun's tone was much softer.
“Yea. Again, I don’t know why you're suddenly so worried about her, but she can hold her own. And if not, well… not much we can do now,” Party said as he pushed past Fun Ghoul.
Fun shook his head and went into the back room and started pacing. Something wasn't right, he could tell. He glanced over at her cot, that’s when he noticed something near her pillow. He rushed over and picked up her choker, the one he’d never seen her take off.
“Fuck,” he muttered as he ran his fingers along the necklace. He wrapped the cord around his neck, tying it securely. He couldn’t decide what to do; go look for her and hope she’s alive and just over being at the diner with them, or more specifically him and his shitty behavior, or if he should just accept that she was gone, either alive or dead.
Fun groaned as his headache started to worsen, laying down on his own cot to try to relieve the tension. He closed his eyes for a moment and by the time he opened them, sunlight was coming in the small window and the others were asleep in their cots. Except (YKN).
"I gotta find her," he muttered to himself before getting out of bed. He snatched the keys to the Trans Am from Party's coat pocket and set out.
He wasn’t sure where he was going because he didn’t know where she went. As his eyes searched the road from behind his aviators, he decided that there was no point sticking to the main roads, someone else would have found her by then and word would have gone out that she’d been dusted. He remembered overhearing her telling Kobra there was a road off Route Guano that she loved driving down and she had recommended he check it out some time.
He turned off the main drag and onto the side road, hoping it was the right one. As he drove he thought he spotted something reflecting the morning sunlight back at him. He floored it and quickly recognized her bike on its side in the dirt just off the side of the road. On the other side of the road was a white car that the Dracs always rode around in.
“Fuck,” he groaned as he pulled up and scrambled out. All around were the corpses of dead Dracs. Party was right, she could hold her own. He started to look around for (YKN), she had to be around there somewhere he reasoned.
“(YKN)?!” He shouted, when he spotted running her laying in the sand under a small outcropping of rocks. His heart started hammering in his ears as soon as he spotted her. “Fuck, please be ok, please be ok."
“Fun?” She mumbled, raising her head, her voice barely above a hoarse whisper. "What the hell are you doing here?"
“I came to find you, are you hurt? What happened?” He asked quickly, looking her over.
“I got caught off guard and surrounded by Dracs. I held my own but that one got me while my back was turned,” she said pointing to the corpse on the ground in the distance. “He shot me in the leg, and I can’t walk on it, so I’ve been hiding out here, just kinda waiting to die.”
“You're not gonna die out here, I'm gonna bring you home," he said, helping her to sit up.
“What do you care? I thought you'd be glad I was gone."
"I'm not fucking heartless (YKN)," Fun replied, looking a little hurt.
(YKN)'s brows furrowed as she looked at Fun, his hands still on her, sitting closer to her than he ever had before. Then she spotted it. She reached up and ran her fingers along the necklace that hung around Fun's throat. "You found my lucky necklace."
"I don't believe in luck," he mumbled as he tried to hide the shiver her fingers grazing his skin gave him.
"Where was it?" She asked as he helped her to her feet.
"On your cot."
"Oh, must have fallen off."
"That's how I knew you hadn't intended to leave for good."
(YKN) tried not to smirk as he helped her to the Trans Am. "Party let you take the car out? That's surprising."
“I didn’t ask him. Not to be a snitch, but the other guys were gonna let you go.”
“Damn. I mean I told Party I wasn’t sure if I wanted to stick around, but…” she trailed off.
“But what?” Fun asked as he started the car.
“But that was because I didn’t think I was totally welcome at the diner.”
A pang of guilt ran through Fun and he winced. “Because of me.”
“Yea,” she said while looking out the window.
The ride was silent, but Fun Ghoul’s mind wasn’t. He got it now, he understood what it was about (YKN) that bugged him so much. He liked her, he liked her a lot, because she was a total badass, and so pretty and he had no chance in hell with her because Party met her before he did and who would ever pick him over Party?
They pulled up in front of the diner and before (YKN) could even get her door open, Fun was rushing to the passenger side to help her out. “Easy does it. Let’s get you inside and rehydrated and fed.”
(YKN) nodded as Fun slipped a tattooed arm around her waist as she wrapped the other over his shoulders.
“(YKN)? Fun?!” Jet asked in shock as the pair walked into the diner.
“What the hell happened?” Kobra asked, jumping up to help get her in a booth.
“I was on a ride, but I got ambushed. Sound familiar?” (YKN) laughed lightly. “I was just waiting around to die when my hero here came and saved me.”
“(YKN)! I thought you left!” Party exclaimed as he walked back into the front of the diner just as Fun was bringing her a drink.
“Nope, just left for dead apparently,” she said, shooting him a look.
Party glanced from her to Fun. “Sorry, I thought you didn’t wanna be here.”
“Who would wanna give up being a Fabulous Killjoy?” she asked, glancing back at Fun.
He couldn’t be sure, but he felt like there was something to the look she gave him just then. More than just appreciation for getting her home. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking.
~
Later that day (YKN) was back on her cot, recovering and Frank was hovering outside the door. He wanted to go in and talk to her but he didn't have any reason to. Then an idea popped into his head.
"Hey (YKN), I meant to give you this back," he said, taking off her choker and holding it out to her.
(YKN) shook her head. "You said you don't believe in luck, but I think it was luck that helped you find me today. Keep it, find some more luck."
Fun hesitated for a moment. (YKN) had to know that you don't just exchange jewelry with anyone in the Zones, it was a significant gesture. He nodded and put the choker back on.
"It looks good on you," she said and when he looked up, she was smiling at him.
A smile tugged at his lip as well when he was struck with an idea. He pulled off one of the beaded bracelets around his wrist and offered it to her. "Only seems fair."
She looked from the bracelet to his face and back to the bracelet in his hand. She took it from him and her fingers lingering on his hand before slipping it on. "Thank you. For everything, especially coming to look for me. I never thought you of all people would."
"I could never leave you for dead," he said. "And sorry for being an asshole to you for so long. I…" he trailed off.
"You what?"
"I really like you. I was jealous and being an immature jerk about it."
(YKN) smiled. "I told you that necklace would bring you luck."
"Why?"
(YKN) sighed. "I like you too Fun. I was thinking about leaving not because you were an ass, that I can handle, but because someone I like being an ass to me, that hurt."
"I'm sorry," Fun apologized again and (YKN) couldn't stand the sight of him feeling so ashamed.
She reached back up and tugged on his hand, pulling him down to her level. "Try your luck again," she breathed, their faces inches apart.
It only took a second for Fun to close the small distance between them, kissing her hard. She smiled into the kiss as she ran her hands through his long hair. When they pulled back Fun rested his forehead against hers. "Ok, maybe I do believe in luck after all."
Hi first of I spend last night reading through so many of your asks they’re AMAZING. It got me thinking about Billy’s first birthday at the cabin. I feel like he wouldn’t tell anyone about his birthday because they were never a big deal for him and they’d discover it was his birthday a few weeks later and they’d feel really bad about it. So they pick a day in the next week and treat it like his birthday as a surprise and Billy is completely overwhelmed by the all love. Thoughts?
First off: you’re so damn sweet, @kingsandsaints, goodness me thanks hun ♥ (also this was so long ago but I legit started writing this right after you asked it god i’m so sorry it’s taken this long to finish)
Second OHMYGOD i love this idea so much!!!
Okay, legit the only person who knows the exact day of Billy’s birthday is Max. Like, not even Steve knows.
Billy just never talks about it. And I mean never. For as much of a ham as this boy is, he doesn’t actually like all that much attention from most people. Especially the people at school. He’s so sick of them- he’s so sick of everyone hanging off of him and touching him like he’s there to be touched. Like he’s there as their toy to play with. Like he’s there for their entertainment.
He gets so fed up.
Bc Billy is no open book. He’s real good at keeping his emotions pushed down and hidden away. He’s a private person and he’s very adamant about that because, as far as he’s concerned, no one needs to know any of his business. And his birthday is very much his business. It’s his day, his life, his choice on whether he wants to tell people and his choice is… nope.
He debated telling Steve this year just to hold it over his head bc Steve was being a bitch and Billy just wanted to hang out and smoke and suck the boy’s dick or something. But he decided against it. bc if he tells one person, he runs the risk of way more people knowing and then they fuss and they coddle and they pay way too much attention to him and he doesn’t need that.
So his birthday comes and goes and no one is the wiser. Hop picks a small fight with him that morning about drinking out of the milk carton, El accidentally scuffs a pair of his favorite boots as she was stomping around the house, and he got a C on his math test even though he finally felt fucking good about it. His teacher gives him so much attitude and he wants to pull someone’s teeth out.
But it’s a normal day. And he’d rather take the comfort of a normal day over the extravagance of some day people decide they’re obligated to be ‘nice’ to him. He doesn’t need that shit. He doesn’t need fake pity or kindness.
But, y’know… he still goes out with Max.
Bc she’d be pissed if he didn’t at least see her on his birthday. She’s gotten bratty about it. When his birthday comes around she likes to cross her arms and scowl and pout and stand in his way until he gives in and drives them down to the nearest ice cream place so she can buy him an ice cream cone or something. It’s really stupid. He thinks it’s stupid. No he doesn’t smile at all on their little adventure, thank you. And if his chest feels warm when she hands the ice cream over with that smug look on her face that Billy can’t help but think she learned from him… well he’d never ever admit to it.
This year is no different. After school he forgoes hanging out with Steve or heading home to cart El around to wherever she wants to go in favor of driving Max to the nearest ice cream place, which happens to be the next town over.
They’re bantering and bickering with each other, Max asking if she’s still the only one he keeps in his life who knows about his birthday.
“Yup.” He says, fixing the cuffs on his jean jacket. She rolls her eyes.
“Seriously? It’s still a secret?”
“Yeah, and you better keep it, you brat.
“Shut up, what flavor do you want?”
He puts his hands on his hips. “You know what I always get, Roc-”
“Yeah, yeah.” She turns to the person at the counter. “One… two scoops of Rocky Road please.”
Billy eyes her suspiciously.
“In a dipped cone.”
“Alright, what’d you do.” Billy asks, fixing the cuff on his other sleeve.
“Nothing.” Max sounds tired.
“… you break one of my records?”
“No!”
“Scratch my car?”
“Oh my god, no.” She’s rolling her eyes.
He gets down to her level, eyeing her curiously, lifting an eyebrow and then the other before asking:
“You kill someone?”
“Shut up, Billy! Oh my god.”
He straightens out with a dark chuckle. “How am i supposed to know? You’re not exactly the generous type.”
“You’re so full of shit.” She grabs the cone and shoves it his way (as if that was easier than him getting it himself, which it definitely wasn’t) before ordering her own scoop of strawberry.
They sit and enjoy the kind of humorously comfortable silence that only they have with each other before Max breaks it.
“You need to tell someone.”
Billy hits her with a look.
“I’m serious, Billy.”
“Yeah, so am I, brat. Who gives a fuck about my birthday?”
“Well no one if you don’t tell them.”
“Exactly.” Billy stares at his cone as he takes a large lick. “Looking to keep it that way.”
Max rolls her eyes. “You’re so damn stubborn.”
And billy goes about the rest of the day and then the rest of the week, more than happy to be stubborn as fuck until…
Well until one day in the next week where everyone’s acting… strange. Really strange. All antsy and secretive around him, quiet about the way they speak to each other and giving him these weird glances that make him think he’s out of the loop. Make him know he is and this is the shit he tries to avoid. He doesn’t like the whole “not knowing” thing. He likes to be in the know.
And that’s all what makes him dread coming home that day from school. Steve said he was too busy to let him come over but wouldn’t say why (Steve is the worst liar Billy’s ever known. He wonders if he’s just a bad liar to Billy or if he’s this way with everyone) so he has nowhere to go but home. And it’s not even fear in his body, it’s just nerves because there’s something going on and he doesn’t know about it.
So he walks up to the house quietly and slowly, eyes shifting over to the window before he reaches the door to see if he can see anything but the curtains are closed.
And then he’s opening the door slowly, trying to prepare himself for whatever’s going on, probably overpreparing himself if he thinks about it too much, and-
“Surprise!”
Billy flinches.
Bc while he was definitely prepared for something, some kind of surprise, potentially for his birthday (which he wasn’t actually dreading. Not that he would admit to it), he wasn’t prepared for confetti being thrown in his face.
Billy covers his eyes, wiping the little pieces of paper off.
“Oh, honey!” comes Joyce’s voice. Billy begins rubbing at his eyes and sees a blurry vision of Joyce gently taking hold of El’s arm. “Try to avoid his face.”
Billy groans a bit. He tries to make it sound like he’s not irritated.
“What’s going on?”
“Happy Birthday, Billy!” comes a chorus of voices that sounds like Max, El, and 2 quiet Byers brothers.
Billy shakes his head, scanning the people that are there, trying his goddamn best not to let his face split into a smile because… because… well what the fuck.
Everyone’s here. El, Max, Jim, Will, Jonathan, Joyce…
And Billy is absolutely beside himself. He never quite understood that phrase until exactly this moment. He feels like he’s viewing this from a spot slightly to the left of where he is, watching himself watch in awe at these people that are… that are his, aren’t they? That went out of their way… stopped their day, honestly, just to do this. To celebrate him and his existence and this is a little ridiculous. For a second he remembers why he finds birthdays a little silly. They’re all looking at him with smiles on their faces like they’re just happy he’s here and it’s… it’s just ridiculous. Why?
He scans his surroundings in a second, though it feels like slow motion. He sees the streamers along the ceiling that were probably placed there by El (with the help of Hop), a banner in the back with ‘Happy Birthday Billy!’ written on it that was definitely painted by Will, blue balloons floating around everywhere with curly ribbons hanging off of a few of them, a couple of gift-wrapped presents on the coffee table, and then his… his family, standing right in front of him, beaming like he did something right.
He shakes his head again, the words still floating through the air.
“It’s not my birthday.” Billy says in vain, because he knows that’s not the point here. A couple of chuckles hit the air, but Billy’s still eyeing the decorations around him.
“We’re making it your birthday.” Comes Will’s voice, and Billy turns to see him smiling wide. Billy rolls his eyes, biting the inside of his bottom lip to stop the smile forming.
“You guys are-”
There’s a knock at the door behind him.
He takes a second to turn, still dealing with the slight shock flooding through his system that only deepens when he finds Steve on the other side.
Steve’s smile widens quickly.
“Happy Birthday.” He says like he’s saying ‘I love you’ and it makes Billy’s chest burn.
“I-”
“I got you something.” Steve says, pushing a (poorly) wrapped present into Billy’s chest, forcing him to take it. It’s heavy.
“You guys are ridiculous.” Billy mumbles down to the present he’s now holding close to his chest, fully aware of his face turning pink. And it only gets pinker because Steve decides to lean over and kiss Billy’s cheek and he’s gonna riot. He’s gonna fight someone for making him feel so seen.
Billy’s still standing in the doorway when Steve yells out “I brought the cake!” To the rest of the room and moves around Billy to walk into the cabin.
Billy stands there for a minute, willing his blush to go down before he closes the door and ventures into prey.
And it’s… quite the evening. Hop puts on one of Billy’s favorite records and helps Joyce make burgers and homemade french fries (that are either very crispy or very soft) for them all to eat. As they’re getting the food ready, El pulls Billy to dance with her and Will and Max as Jonathan shows Steve where to put the birthday cake and Billy is…
Billy is kind of floating in place, being pulled around by El to the beat of the music and he kind of just wants to sit. El notices Max drag Billy over to the sofa, so she grabs onto Will instead, spinning around with him.
“Happy birthday, jerk.” Max sits on the sofa.
Billy flops next to her onto the couch in response, looking at the decorations around him before absent-mindedly pulling on the ribbon of one of the balloons.
“Do you like your party?” Max asks, leaning forward to look the boy in the eye. He just kind of scoffs a bit.
“I… I dunno what to do.” Billy says, pulling the balloon down to eye level before letting it float back up and doing it all over again. It’s an oddly nervous gesture that he doesn’t feel he has very much control of. “This is so… awkward. This is why I didn’t want anyone knowing. Birthday parties are so dumb.”
“It’s just because you’ve never had one.” Max says, punching Billy’s shoulder lightly. He pulls the balloon back down again so he can bat it into Max’s face.
“Hey!” She shrieks a bit, swiping it away.
Billy notices Jonathan walk up to them then, and he looks up to find Steve has gotten swept up in the dancing.
“You good?” Jonathan asks, settling himself next to Billy to watch his brother and El spin poor Steve around like crazy. He hands Billy an opened beer bottle. “Courtesy of Hop, by the way. He said the birthday boy deserves one.”
Billy chuckles as he accepts it. “Thanks. And yeah, I guess.” he mumbles up against the lip of the bottle before taking a swig. “S’just weird.”
“Don’t like parties?” Jonathan asks with a smirk on his face.
“Not really.” Billy swats at Max’s hand as she reaches for his bottle.
“Hm… I don’t believe you.”
His grin is smarmy. Billy glares weakly at it. “I don’t. Not parties about me. What’s that thing about big parties having more privacy?”
Jonathan laughs. “Are you quoting The Great Gatsby?”
Billy shoves his shoulder into Jonthan’s. “I don’t fucking know! I guess? There’s something… different about people looking at me when I don’t really know them. It’s easier that way.” He takes a nervous swig of his beer.
“Well, if you want, we can all ignore you for the rest of the night.” Jonathan offers with a smirk, leaning back on the sofa. Billy grabs a pillow from the couch to shove into Jonathan’s face.
“Shut up.”
“I’m serious. I’d be more than happy to ignore you. Easiest birthday gift I’ll ever give.”
“You’re so nice to me, Byers.”
“I know, my generosity is endless.”
The two are near laughing with each other when Max makes a confused noise next to them.
“You guys are weird.” She says with a scrunched up look on her face. She’s going to get up to join the dancing when Joyce and Hop call everyone to dinner.
And it’s… it’s nice. The food is good and the conversation is fairly easy. Hop and Joyce ask Billy a few questions about how his day was and how he feels now that he’s 18 and how he’s a really “handsome and confident young man” (Joyce’s words) that may or may not make Billy tear up and have to hide it in his burger. He’s thankful that Jonathan notices something’s up (maybe even gives him pity, though Billy doesn’t want to think about that) and changes the subject while Steve puts a comforting and warm hand on Billy’s thigh.
The conversation shifts away from him and he’s thankful for it. They joke around and laugh and smile and then Hop’s putting on a different record as they sit Billy down to open up his presents.
And this is where he feels every bit of awkwardness, because everyone’s sitting around waiting for him to open the presents that they specifically bought for him. Waiting for his reactions to these things that are being given to him with the implication of putting a smile on his face and it’s just… the weirdest sort of pressure?
And he likes these people. They’re like… they’re his family now. So he can’t even just not care about how they feel about his reactions. He wants to make them feel good about what they gave him.
But it’s really not that hard, bc, lo and behold, these people actually know him pretty well. It’s a… weird feeling. He can’t remember the last time he got a present from someone who actually cared this much. Max hasn’t bought him a present ever bc he makes such a big deal about hating his birthday. But here he is, a little bundle of presents in front of him and he… he feels spoiled. It’s a first that’s been happening for a few months now. Every day that he gets that spoiled feeling feels like the first time bc it’s so alien. He’s not sure he’ll ever get used to it.
So he opens them up slowly. There’s a little gray box from Will, with a cool as hell charm on a chain inside. It’s a little skull, delicately painted in various metallic colors. It almost looks mosaic from the paint.
“It’s an earring.” Will explains in a nervous, bouncy kind of excitement. “I found the charm and then painted it.”
Billy’s amazed at the detail. He musses up Will’s hair with a smile and gives his thanks, taking his own earring out to put his new one in.
There’s a very poorly wrapped present leaning up against the table, labeled “From El and Max ♥”. From the shape of the crinkly, potentially used wrapping paper, Billy thinks he has an inkling of what it is. He still acts shocked when he opens it, if only just for El.
“Skateboard!”
And my lovely friend @okayshitbird helped me out w/ ideas for presents for Billy and had this WONDERFUL idea of 1. Max yearning to skate w/ Billy again bc we both agree that Billy 120% used to be a skater back in Cali before he got a car AND taught Max how to skate. And also 2. El wanting to learn to skate bc she thinks Max is so cool and i think we can ALL agree that we were ROBBED of Max and El skating w/ each other. SO.
Billy opens it up to find a skateboard. And it’s like… a nice one. It’s clearly not brand new, it’s got a little bit of use on it’s wheels and a couple scratches already, but it’s obviously close to new. The deck itself is pretty sweet, too. The pattern is neon and psychedelic looking, and it takes a couple of seconds for Billy to make out a picture of a frog with large eyes, hidden in the chaos of the pattern. It looks… familiar.
Bc @okayshitbird ALSO had the wonderful idea of El and Max maybe possibly asking Heather for help in lifting a skateboard they may or may not have seen in the Lost and Found at the pool. And Heather definitely rolled her eyes, but she thinks Billy’s kid sister is funny so she did it for them for the low low price of a package of her favorite bubblegum. She’s nothing if not kind and generous.
But Billy remembers when he had to confiscate this. He shoots a skeptical look at the girls.
“Looks kinda… familiar. Where’d ya get it?”
“Oh uh… we may have had some help-” Max begins before-
“Heather!” El cuts in.
Max covers El’s mouth. “It doesn’t really matter where we got it, does it? But it’s yours now!” Max hurriedly grabs the board and places it down under the coffee table. “Alright, next gift.”
The next gift is in a paper bag with a little bow placed on the front. Billy pulls out the gift.
“A sweater?” Billy asks, looking to Hop and Joyce, who he assumes this is from.
“You need warm clothes.” Hop says flatly.
“Fine-”
“For the love of god, please don’t rip holes in it.”
“Fine.” Billy says with more attitude this time, putting the bag down and seeing something at the bottom of it. He looks in curiously to see a $20 bill folded up neatly. (keep in mind, back in0 1985 that’s like… $50 bucks by today’s standards.)
Billy shoots Hop a knowing look and Hop gives a nod and a little smile.
“Thanks pops.” Billy says with a little smile of his own, shoving the sweater back in the bag. He feels a little weird about pulling money out in front of everyone, so he doesn’t, but he wants him to know he appreciates it.
“Yeah yeah.” Hop nods and mumbles into the lip of his beer bottle.
The last gift on the table is the one Steve shoved at Billy.
“Best for last?” Billy mumbles a snarky little thing in Steve’s direction, revelling in the embarrassed look Steve gives.
“No no, it’s nothing.” Steve says nervously.
Except obviously that’s wrong. Bc obviously Steve 1. Is very rich and 2. Spoils Billy absolutely rotten (or at least…. As much as Billy allows for). And hell- the present is HEAVY. Like…… there’s definitely something in that box.
And Billy’s honestly irritated when he opens it. Bc goddamn it Steve…
“Do you like it?” Steve is wringing his hands.
It’s a portable stereo. Like… a brand new one. An expensive one. Billy doesn’t have one- he left his old stereo back in his old house, not wanting to carry anything he didn’t need in the move. When he listens to music he either forces Jonathan to let him use his player or he listens to records on the record player out in the living room or he just… sits in his car.
“Woah.” Jonathan mumbles, leaning in a little closer from his spot on the side chair to look at it.
Billy’s heart is fluttering.
“Billy?” Steve asks, voice obviously nervous but Billy’s a little caught up bc goddamnit. He’s… he hates being spoiled but this thing is sick and then Steve’s hand is reaching out for his knee and Billy kisses Steve’s cheek quickly and knocks his shoulder into him.
“Thanks, pretty boy.”
And Steve is blushing and so is Billy and Max is smirking and Jonathan notices Joyce is about to start cooing like she always does so he decides to save Billy from the embarrassment. Someone give him that “brother of the year” award already.
“Well open it, I wanna see.”
So Billy tears into the box, taking the stereo out and shit it’s nice. All metallic blue and steel and buttons and dials and shit it’s gonna sound so nice.
They cut into the cake (Billy refuses to let them all sing happy birthday to him, even though Max and El still do, as loud as possible, as Joyce cuts everyone a slice)(Billy tries to tickle them to get them to stop, but they just dodge him) and if Billy is feeling warmth in his chest, he’ll blame it on… heartburn or something.
It’s not too long after everyone is done with their cake that Joyce yawns, claiming herself tired. Jim nods, giving Billy the biggest bear hug possible- y’know, to really embarrass him- before heading to get ready for bed. He throws in a “Happy birthday son.” for good measure as well, to which Billy, with a strained voice as he’s being squished, says “S’not my birthday.”
El attacks Billy with a hug, Max right behind her and joining in.
“Happy birthday, you idiot.” Max mumbles. Billy pulls at her hair. Max swats at his arm before getting dragged off to El’s room to probably listen to music or read comic books or something before they crash for the night.
Billy’s the one who initiates a hug from Will, bc the sweet boy, bless him, is standing there so awkwardly, feet moving nervously with each other, mumbling a quiet “Happy birthday, Billy.” Billy doesn’t let that slide though, grabbing roughly onto his shoulder and pulling him into a tight hug, giving a gruff “Thanks, pipsqueak.” bc Billy doesn’t even try to hide it: Will is his favorite of the kids.
Joyce is still moving around the kitchen, putting plates away and refusing help from Steve, moving even after the plates are all put away, wiping at the counter like it needs to be cleaned even though it doesn’t, when Billy catches Jonathan’s eye.
Jonathan brings a hand up to his mouth, pretending to bite at his nail before his fingers move to look like he’s smoking. Billy nods, and Jonathan gives a little smile, turning to Steve and nodding at him. Steve, however, is oblivious. Bc Steve doesn’t know their weird little ~signals~ they give each other bc Billy and Jonathan always seem to be talking in some kind of code. They’re so weird w/ each other. No one understands them.
So Steve is confused.
“What?”
Jonathan rolls his eyes. Smoke. Jonathan mouths, but Steve’s eyebrows furrow.
“Smo-?”
Billy grabs Steve’s hand. “Get outside, moron.” Billy mumbles, pulling him towards the back of the house, where Jonathan is already lazily walking to.
“Oh, Billy! Can I uhm…” Joyce begins, obviously nervous. “Can I talk to you?”
Billy’s nervous now, too.
By the time she’s done digging through the drawer for whatever it is she’s looking for, Jonathan and Steve are already out on the back porch. She’s holding an envelope with a ribbon tied around it.
“I uhm… I know it doesn’t really matter as much… now that you’re 18 and all. But here’s my present to you.”
Billy eyes it curiously, taking gentle hold of the envelope, untying the ribbon, opening it up.
And thanks AGAIN to @okayshitbird for the idea bc-
“It’s the adoption papers. For my side. If you want!”
She’s so nervous but Billy’s only vaguely aware now bc… Bc his heart is dropping. She wants him to be her son. Like… for real.
She’s still rambling a bit, talking about how she doesn’t wanna force him and “you don’t have to” and “I just wanted to give you the option” and-
Billy throws the papers onto the counter to hug her. Bc goddamnit this comes with a lot of emotions. too many emotions but the good outweigh the bad and he’s a little overwhelmed and-
“Thank you.”
Joyce gives a strong hug back.
“No need to thank me, honey.”
And so she sends him a warm smile and a quiet “happy birthday” before heading to bed. Billy goes to tuck the papers back into the envelope. He places them in a safe spot in one of his drawers in his room.
When he gets outside, still a little shocked, Jonathan’s finished rolling the joint and is laughing easily with Steve.
“Finally.” Steve says, pouting a bit and reaching for Billy. “Jonathan’s been ribbing me this whole time.”
Jonathan shrugs lazily. “Somebody has to.”
“I get enough from him.” Steve says, pointing to Billy. “I get all I need from him.”
There’s some kind of insinuation in it that makes Jonathan gag.
“Please stop now. He’s my brother.” Jonathan pulls a face.
Billy’s mind is a little busy. Gets even busier at the word brother. The other boys notice.
“You alright, babe?” Steve asks quietly. Billy turns to Jonathan.
“You’re… you’re actually gonna be my brother, now.”
“Huh?”
“Joyce is adopting me.”
Jonathan’s silent, eyes getting wide. “Really?”
Billy nods. Steve breathes out a bit. Everyone understands the implication. Bc they know Billy now. They know how important this is for him. They know this is big.
They’re quiet for a second.
“Damn, does this mean I have to be nice to you?” Jonathan asks before the placing the joint in his mouth and lighting it. Billy laughs.
“If you are, I’ll send you to the psych ward.”
“No need.” Jonathan says, exhaling smoke and handing the joint to Billy. “They’d send me away for being too crazy.”
“That sure?” Billy asks before he inhales.
“Once I get to talking about the monsters that abducted my brother, yeah.”
Billy and Jonathan laugh. Steve has a bit of a harder time keeping up with how the tone shifted so quickly. He’s not sure he’ll ever understand these two.
They each take a couple of puffs on the joint in silence before Jonathan jumps to life again.
“Oh, go grab your fancy new stereo and put this in.”
He tosses a cassette in Billy’s direction. Billy has to unwrap his arm from around Steve’s shoulders quickly to catch it.
“Oh shit, Motley Crue’s new album? Sweet. I didn’t know you like them?” Billy’s in awe and Steve leans in to look at the track list.
“I don’t.” Jonathan chuckles a bit. “It’s for you, genius.”
Billy looks up in confusion. Jonathan rolls his eyes.
“Happy birthday.”
“Serious?”
“What? God forbid I buy you something?” Jonathan asks, standing up a bit to accept the joint from Steve. “Just get your stereo.”
Billy chuckles back a thanks.
And so they listen to the tape. Jonathan admits he was deciding between a few (Ratt, AC/DC, or this) but picked this tape bc he doesn’t hate the song “Smokin’ In The Boys Room”. Steve admits he thinks every song sounds like the last and gets a slap on the thigh from Billy, who huffs harshly on the joint at the words. Jonathan makes eye contact w/ Steve to let him know he agrees. Then Billy decides that the heavy guitar of “Save Our Souls” is too seductive and hot not to start making out with Steve, to which Jonathan makes a gagging noise and gets up.
“Gross.” He groans, standing up and burning the last of the joint out. “I’m heading to bed.”
Billy waves at Jonathan from where he’s locked onto Steve’s lips, but Steve pulls away to give a proper goodbye, his face red.
“Uh, g’night Jonathan!”
“Yeah, goodnight.” Billy mumbles into the skin of Steve’s neck.
Jonathan rolls his eyes, but Billy doesn’t see it.
“Just don’t fuck on the porch.” Jonathan says flatly before heading into the house and being careful to close the door quietly.
“You’re so embarrassing.” Steve chastises before pulling Billy back up to kiss him soundly.
They make out a little more, sitting just like that, listening to the music nice and clear on his new stereo.
“Did you have a nice birthday?” Steve asks quietly, rubbing Billy’s sides.
“Yeah… but I still think you’re all ridiculous.”
Steve laughs, leaning back in for another kiss.
ship : tsukkiyama. | tsukishima x yamaguchi |
genre : fluff.
warning : none.
From the moment Tsukishima’s eyes peeled open, he knew that his day was going to be a bad one. From the way his head pounded, to the way his muscles ached - and not to mention how gloomy today was. It was dark, foggy, and he could hear small drops of rain splashing against the road. There were no cars, signifying that it was probably very early in the morning.
Groggily, he sat up in his bed ; hastily searching for his glasses. He finally found them, grabbing and putting them on. A small scoff escaped his lips, forcing him into a coughing fit that rendered him breathless. Soon after he finished, he found his chest feeling tight, and his breaths rigid. He felt so hot... A small whimper escaped his lips, he felt so horrible. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so sick. His nose was stuffed, so he couldn’t even breathe through his nose. But he didn’t have time for a break. He didn’t have time for this.
Checking the time, he soon realised why there were no cars. It was 5 in the morning. He figured that it’d take him some time to get ready, considering how shitty he felt. So it was only for the best. At least he wouldn’t run late. His boyfriend, Yamaguchi, always told him to look on the positive side of things. So that’s what he tried to do. It took him a while to get out of bed, and to walk to the bathroom too. Probably over 10 minutes. With a small cough, he cringed at the way he looked in the mirror. His skin was all clammy, he had dark circles under his eyes, and he was visibly sweating, it wasn’t a good look on him.
Quickly taking off his glasses, he began to wash his face. The ice cold water splashing against his face sent a shiver throughout his entire body. He didn’t like this feeling. It made him want to genuinely cry. He didn’t even know how he was supposed to go to practice, or hide it from his far too observant boyfriend. He supposed he’d have to pass it off as a cold, and not sleeping well. Not that he thought it’d work. He got dressed, tried fixing himself up so he wouldn’t look as crappy, which - much to his dismay, didn’t do much. By the time he was finished, he received a text from his lovely boyfriend.
From : yams 💖
Time : 7:00 am
Hey, Tsukki! R u coming? You’re running a little late. Is everything okay? 😅
To : yams 💖
Time : 7:01 am
Mhm. Woke up late. Didn’t sleep good. Sorry.
From : yams 💖
Time : 7:01 am
Aww, that’s okay! Take ur time. Well, not too much bc we’re gonna be late. Y’know what I mean!! <33
To : yams 💖
Time : 7:03 am
Mk. See you soon.
He felt bad for making him wait, and for lying, but he felt so sickly. And he didn’t want to make him deal with it. Sighing, and sniffling a bit - he put on his shoes, and tried his best to get there on time. Thankfully, he managed to get to Yamaguchi just in time. With a small nod of his head as a greeting, they began to walk to school. As he anticipated ; Yamaguchi immediately noticed how clammy his skin was. He could already feel his worried gaze lingering on him, watching every slow, shaky step he took. Every small sway his body made, signalling that no, he wasn’t doing all that great. Not in the slightest.
But he didn’t say anything, since Tsukishima had told him that he hadn’t slept well. But eventually, as in, after a few seconds, he just couldn’t help but worry. He couldn’t help but ask him if he was okay. Tsukishima obviously didn’t look okay, and his boyfriend, Yamaguchi - or as Tsukishima tended to call him, Yams, was too worried for his own good. Too worrisome for his lover, that he couldn’t help but ask him a simple question, that he already thought he knew the answer too. But Tsukishima was smart, despite the way he felt, the way he felt knives stabbing into his head, the way his muscles ached, the way he felt so weak, as though he’d collapse at any second - and not to mention how hot he was, how stuffed his nose was, he just - wasn’t okay. But he’d simply downplay it, instead of denying he was sick at all.
“Tsukki? I’m sorry but- are you okay?”
Tsukishima knew that question would come up. He stifled a small cough into his fist, nodding, despite the fact that he was swaying on his feet, which were visibly trembling. On one side, admitting that he was sick could go against him. But as long as he managed to downplay it enough, just as one of those nasty colds that went away in about 2 days, then he figured that Yamaguchi wouldn’t worry as much. At least, that was the reaction he was hoping for. Hopefully it’d work in his favour.
“Mm. Cold. It’s a cold. I took medicine. It should kick in soon. I’ll be fine.”
“What about volleyball? Do you think you can make it to practice?”
“Of course. I told you, it’s just a cold. I’ll make it. N I’ll nap when I get home.”
“Tsukki, your voice- it’s so... Rough. It sounds painful. Sure the medicine is going to kick in?”
“Yeah. ‘M sure.”
He didn’t want to speak too much. He wasn’t that much of a talker in general, but his throat hurt so much - he could hardly swallow. But of course, he kept up his stone walls, and said that he was perfectly fine. Which was completely normal to him, of course. Yamaguchi avoided asking anymore questions, and just went with it, despite not being completely sure that he was fine.
But during classes, Yamaguchi had noticed that Tsukishima was getting progressively worse and worse. He noticed the way he struggled to stifle coughing fits, the way he wiped sweat off his forehead, the way he shivered, the way he clutched his heaving chest after every coughing fit he stifled. Not to mention that he missed a few questions from the teacher, who kindly excused him, and told him not to worry, that it was fine out of her own place of worry, and kindness.
And then practice rolled around. Tsukishima was exhausted. He could barely walk without swaying, his legs trembled so much he felt as though he’d collapse at any minute. He could hardly properly walk down the stairs. His ears were slightly ringing, his head was pounding in his ears ; only adding onto the ringing, he felt like he was about to faint any second. So he freshened up in the boys bathroom, got changed in there to avoid the others, and went to practice. He wasn’t swaying as much, but he was leaning on any wall he could find for support.
“Tsukishima, we’re going to have a small practice match, would you like to join us? You don’t seem like you’re doing too good, you can sit out if you want?”
Daichi suggested, he shook his head ; as if to reject sitting out of the match. He silently walked onto one side of the court, not paying any attention as to who, what and why they were even doing this. Everything felt hot, blurry. He was trying so hard to focus, he didn’t even move once the ball was in the air. He felt like he was overheating. Everything was going in slow motion, yet he couldn’t make a single movement. He could feel all eyes on him, whilst a small, strained cough escaping his lips. And suddenly, everything went completely black.
After a few hours, he felt his heavy eyelids opening - only to be greeted with the face of his loving, and very worried boyfriend, along with a few other heads staring at down at him. He could hear a few voices, but he hadn’t fully gained consciousness - so he couldn’t hear exactly what it was that they were saying. Once his blurry vision cleared out, and he was visibly looking around. Only to figure out that him and Yamaguchi were on a bench, him laying down on Yamaguchi’s lap. He let out a groan, attempting to sit up.
“Easy, Tsukki...”
Yamaguchi spoke, hand on his back - helping him sit up. He tried to speak, but found that his voice was now gone. He felt so much weaker than before, and much more groggy - considering that he’d just woken up after collapsing. The others eyed him worriedly, Sugawara placing a hand on his shoulder, and giving him a reassuring smile. It did make him feel a bit more reassured - it didn’t take away of the embarrassment.
“I’ll take him home.”
“Come on, Tsukki - careful. Think you can stand?”
He gave a nod, leaning onto Yamaguchi, who helped him stand up. Saying a quick goodbye to everyone, Yamaguchi helped Tsukishima all the way home. Akiteru was still at work, considering that practice hand ended, so Yamaguchi would have to take care of Tsukishima by himself. Which, he didn’t really mind doing. This was his boyfriend, after all. He wasn’t afraid of him throwing up or anything. And he’d taken care of him a few times before, but, those times - it was just a simple cold. And this was pretty different than your average cold.
Once they came back to Tsukishima’s place, Yamaguhi helped Tsukishima into his room, he suggested to help him with his clothes - but he, of course, stubborn as he is, said he’d get changed by himself. In the meantime, he went in the kitchen to make him some tea. Knowing Tsukishima, he most likely would refuse to eat anything. So he decided to put it off until a little later, he hoped that Tsukishima would gain an appetite a little later. Which usually, was the case. At least in the past times he’d taken care of Tsukishima.
Once he came back, he was greeted with the sight of Tsukishima in his dinosaur onesie, cuddled up in his blankets, visibly drifting off. It brought a smile to his face. He walked up to his bed, sitting down next to him, and placing a small hand on his back - gently shaking him awake. He tried his best not to be too forceful. Tsukishima carefully sat up, stifling a few coughs into his arm. Yamaguchi giving him a sympathetic smile, and handing the teacup to him. He placed a small kiss on his forehead, beginning to play with his hair, to give him a sense of comfort whilst he drank his tea.
As soon as he finished, he placed it down on the bedside table. Laying down almost immediately, gently pulling down on Yamaguchi’s sleeve - as if to ask him to cuddle. Which, naturally, was very rare for Tsukishima. He had taken off his shoes and everything, but his clothes weren’t the cleanest. He was about to speak, only to be pulled into laying down. Yamaguchi let out a small giggle, wrapping his arms around Tsukishima - and for the first time, he was the ‘big spoon’.
“Thanks...”
Tsukishima muttered, eyes closed. Yamaguchi, in turn, placed a kiss another kiss on his cheek. Tsukishima was so cute when he was sick, and even though it pained Yamaguchi to see his precious boyfriend so sick - he was so adorable. Well, he always was. But at least now, he didn’t deny it as much as he usually did. He was glad to have Tsukishima, and so was he.
“Tsukki, you don’t have to thank me. I’ll always take care of you, I won’t leave your side until you’re better!”
The Witcher - Favorite Reads Masterpost
Tumblr media
So, the previous one was getting really super long and Tumblr refused to save the latest update three times, which I’m taking to mean I’ve reached some kind of length limit. In view of that, and with a poke to @nyliekeo who asked to be tagged, here’s the second volume of my Witcher fic-reading adventures!
(Pretty much all Geraskier, because I’m only a multishipper in the sense that I have many ships across many fandoms.)
Volume 1
Last updated: April 10th, 2020.
Non geraskier fic
Summary:  When Geralt was a child his mother kissed his forehead, wove flowers in his hair, and let him dance around the campsite they shared with the other druids. He loved dancing, the way his body moved and flowed; he was like water.
And then she left him in the road, spilled water on his feet, and a faint trail of dust where she and the cart were no longer. And a man came and took Geralt and made him into something new.
“Were you short? Waifish? Did those witcher mutagens turn you into, you know, the hulking sexy man that you are? At least they gave you such male perfection, what with the stubble and the jaw and the--”
He has no home to return to between stints with Geralt, whether a sprawling mansion vaunting his wealth or a comfortable cottage replete with souvenirs from his varied exploits. You eat normal amounts of food when eating in public, instead of your usual awe-inducing giant amount. You sleep more when you’re hurt, but that’s the only way I’d ever know. You’re a bit weird about your potions and you count them a lot.” He glances up and grins. “Shall I continue?”
Jaskier had thought he’d reached his peak when he was younger. He had been proven wrong, of course, practice truly did make perfect. Yet he settled and settled as if he had always been there. He wandered the cliffsides, the beaches, the streets. He strung shells together and gifted them to the ladies of the village with a wink that betrayed the charming young man he once must have been. Summary:  “So do you have a name?”
“Yeah.” The man who had saved his life less than an hour ago – the white-haired, absurdly buff, weirdly sexy man Jaskier might have called taciturn if he was feeling charitable and surly if he was feeling less so – dug into his second burger.
Jaskier waited. “Are… you going to tell me what it is?”
The man paused mid-bite, and looked at him reproachfully as if to say how dare you. How dare you interrupt me. Can’t you see I’m enjoying my cheeseburger. Can’t you see this cheeseburger is the most important thing in my life right at the moment. He swallowed, and said, “Geralt.”
It turns out almost getting eaten by a werewolf can make your whole life go careening off in a new, terrifying, wondrous, artistically flourishing direction. Who knew?
Professor Pankratz - martistarfighter
Specs: 1 147 words - Teen & Up Audiences - Established relationship
Sumary:  “Come teach my class with me tomorrow.” He whispers in the witcher’s ear. He’s sporting a neatly trimmed beard these days, and it tickles Geralt’s neck in the most tempting way.
Geralt chuckles dryly, but the lack of an immediate quip tells him that Jaskier is serious. It’s a little scary how often they can read their minds by now.
“Don’t think so. You’re the teacher, Jask. I’ve got nothing to tell them.”
“But you’re the reason I’m still alive and teaching in the first place. Besides, you can just sit there, look pretty and answer some questions. My students have heard a lot about you, they’ll adore you.”
As someone pointed out, there's too much 'witcher watching out for his idiot' and not enough 'the witcher is a himbo who loves his college educated bard husband, who is qualified to teach' content out there. So I'm fixing it with a self-indulgent ficlet!
“Not particularly.”
The smile swiftly disappeared.
“It’s not terrible,” he amended, stepping back to let Jaskier inside the apartment. Then Jaskier’s initial words sank in. “Wait. Yen did what?”
"This is a very broad question, but I was just curious, no need to answer if you don't want to -" Jaskier starts, having learned that giving the man a way out is always a good bet.
"Just get on with it, won't you?"
Jaskier clears his throat, leans down, puts his elbows on the rim of the tub. "How do you feel about pet names?"
They spend a great deal of time watching each other; when they finally fell into a bed together, they spent most of their nights learning what the other liked, mapping the plains of skin and muscle underneath the other.
“In my body,” said Geralt.
“Yes,” said Jaskier, with the insolent cadence that was unmistakably Jaskier’s, but in Geralt’s voice, emerging from Geralt’s face and frame.
some Turgon thoughts
so @siphilemon asked on discord for Turgon headcanons and I, a known Turgon apologist, was all too happy to oblige! I rambled for awhile and thought that maybe some other people might be interested in my thoughts, so I’ve gathered them here. under a cut because it’s a Lot.
General Turgon HCs
Turgon is fiercely devoted to his family, whether that's his siblings or his dad or Finrod or Elenwë and Idril...and he outlives. all. of. them. except for Idril and the Fëanorians, who he does NOT like
He's grumpy, more of an introvert than Fingon and Finrod are for sure, he was never really fond of the Fëanorians (esp Maedhros) but that was more because “someone in the family has to stand with Dad against them and it isn't going to be Fingon or Aredhel, so I guess it's gonna be me” and then add the whole thing with Fingon and Maedhros being in love on top of that...he's protective of Fingon
And then. things get bad.
There was never any question that Turno was going to follow his family to Middle-earth, he's devoted to them above everything - and I think he and Elenwë were very much in love and devoted to each other (some of my personal Elenwë hcs is that her parents weren't very excited about her marrying Turgon, and she kind of chose him over them, hence her being the Only Vanya who leaves with the Noldor) and he knew Elenwë would go with him
That's why Baby Idril went along on the Second Most Dangerous Road Trip In All Of Arda (which after the burning of the ships becomes the Most Dangerous Road Trip, surpassing the Great Journey)
but I don't think that (at first) Turgon was very excited about going to Middle-earth for himself? it isn't until Ulmo gives him the dream about Gondolin that he really gets the idea of creating a city of his own, a land of his own
And Gondolin is said to be Very Much reminiscent of Tirion - and Turgon is the one who keeps sending messengers back to Valinor - he missed his home
And he blames the Fëanorians for everything that went wrong. Morgoth too, but he's always kind of resented the Fëanorians, and then Elenwë died and it's all Fëanor’s fault but then when he arrives in Middle-earth Fëanor is dead so he shifts his anger onto Maedhros instead. Maedhros is a very sore spot between Turgon and Fingon.
And after Fingon dies.....well, Turgon blames himself, but he's angry with Maedhros. IMO Turgon is very much a hypocrite - he hates and hates and hates but does the same damn things he hates people for doing (i'm a sucker for Finrod/Turgon which is a juicy parallel to Idril/Maeglin...)
Turgon & Idril
Turgon is intensely protective of Idril, almost suffocatingly so
he was always kind of inclined to be an anxious helicopter parent but after Elenwë dies (it's fucking canon that both of them nearly die but Turgon has to choose between saving Idril or Elenwe, which fucks me up to no end) he's literally Never Letting Her Out Of His Sight
In the immediate aftermath of Elenwë’s death / the rest of the journey across the Ice, that's fine? it's a survival strategy, a coping mechanism, and Idril is traumatized and doesn't want to leave her dad
but then they get to Middle-earth (and Turgon loses his little brother, which makes him cling to his daughter even more) and Idril starts to grow up. IMO she was pretty young when they left Valinor, and she comes of age in Middle-earth. She can finally walk around barefoot in the grass again, and she starts making friends and learning to live without her mom.
which is something that terrifies Turgon, because he doesn't know how to move on without Elenwe, and he's always always looking back to Valinor but Idril barely remembers Valinor by the time she's older, and he's terrified she'll forget her mother
Idril loves her dad but he's very controlling and overprotective - and the dangers of Beleriand only make him more paranoid, even after the Dagor Aglareb ensures the Long Peace...
When Turgon builds Gondolin of course Idril is coming with him. He doesn't even ask her. She wants to go, she loves her dad even if she kind of resents that he still treats her like a child, but she wishes he'd asked her how she felt about the whole thing instead of assuming
(In general Turgon is really really bad at communicating. Elenwë was good at teasing out what he was feeling and getting him to talk but after losing her he shuts out the world. Finrod - whether we're going in a shippy context or not - is also good at understanding Turgon, and that night at the river they have an almost breakthrough together... but then Ulmo visits them and clouds their memories and they forget about it until way later)
But back to Idril: once they're in Gondolin and she can Literally Never Leave, Turgon relaxes a little bit, gives her some more freedom, because this is his city and she's safe here, right? But then everything happens with Aredhel and he's terrified again because if he can lose his sister what about his daughter---
Except now he has Maeglin to take care of too. Turgon is torn between parenting both his daughter and his nephew and ends up not doing a good job of either even though he tries...and Idril doesn't want to be parented at this point, she's a grown ass woman! Maeglin however does need a parent-figure and Turgon "Bad At Communicating" Nolofinwion horribly miscommunicates a lot of his intentions toward Maeglin
Anyway - I think Turgon is oblivious to Maeglin's feelings re: Idril? Until Tuor shows up and he can see "wait this mortal is in love with my daughter and is acting suspiciously like Maeglin...oh shit"
part of his motivation for letting Tuor marry Idril (aside from her being like "Dad I am gonna do what I want and you need to accept that") is fuck she can't marry MAEGLIN
Turgon & Aredhel
So I think that Turgon and Aredhel were the middle siblings who always kind of picked on each other in a loving sibling way? Like Finno is the Golden Child, the Responsible One, the Big Older Brother who adores them both - if they try to nag him it just bounces right off
but they know exactly how to push each other's buttons
and in Valinor that means they get into a lot of low-stakes petty fights that always resolve with them fiercely loving each other
after the ships burn Fingon is just...broken by Maedhros' betrayal. Aredhel, however, is fucking furious that Curvo and Tyelko would do this to her and she starts to channel that fury into hating them as much as Turgon does - which brings her and Turgon closer together
they forge a very deep bond on the Ice, especially with Aredhel kind of stepping in to help parent Idril after Elenwe dies
but unlike Turgon, when they get to Middle-earth Aredhel starts to heal (like Idril). she fights with C&C and then forgives them, and they go back to being friends. she gets to be carefree and happy again. and she'd still die for Turgon, she still looks up to him and loves him, which is why she follows him to Gondolin, but it was inevitable that she would get restless in Gondolin
Turgon resents Fingon for having Maedhros (i think he knows about their relationship and hates it but won't like, spill their secret bc he does love his bro) and he resents Idril and Aredhel for moving on from Elenwë & Argon's deaths because he can't do that, he feels like he's shouldering all the responsibility among his siblings
But most of all he resents himself for not being able to save them, and not being able to move on like a normal person (he's got some massive undiagnosed anxiety/depression). He kind of feels like he's suffering so his family doesn't have to, and since he loves his fam so much he thinks this is the "right" decision
(He's very hung up on morals for someone who is bad at following his own moral code)
So yeah he's angry that Aredhel wants to leave this safe place he created, but they fight and she pushes his buttons and he pushes hers except they're hurting still (aredhel is affected by everything that's happened, she just tries to focus on the positive) and they don't have time to makeup before Aredhel up and leaves
But he's not going to tell her she can't go because he does respect her decisions and her autonomy. and then when she disappears he's worried and then she comes back and he's overjoyed (and disturbed about what happened with Eöl) and then she dies and it's his fault and he blames himself....but Maeglin is also blaming himself and their self-pitying and grieving is magnified by being close together and they both come away worse for it. Maeglin thinks Turgon blames him, and Turgon thinks Maeglin blames him
And yeah, there is some I told you so in there, Turgon feels he was right, but he hates that because he'd rather be wrong than have his sister be dead
I wish you would write an au where you have the age your soulmate will be when you meet them tattooed on your wrist. For the reader it says like 40's to 50's and she was kinda nervous that she wouldn't meet them until she was old, but it turns out it's an age gap. This could be for anyone you want and ebd how you want idm 💛
Omg I loved this idea so so much. I'm a sucker for AU's don't know how I haven't written one yet
- so kids get their marks around their 1st birthday. At the party, Y/N's parents are so excited to see the numbers, only to come across 42
- they already imagine that their girl will lead a quite sad, lonely life, but that doesn't mean they're not gonna be there for her
- as a kid, little Y/N is sad that her number is so high while some of her friends have 20, 25 or even 15 on their wrists. She always does her best to hide her number
- as she gets older, it slowly but surely stops being a problem. Y/N sees it as an advantage to live a free, crazy life, that she'll share stories about when she finally meets her soulmate
- except, life is not always predictable
- at the age of 25, and since the age of 14, Y/N's dream is to be a photographer. She had classes, and between working at a coffee shop and a clothes store, she also made some photography works on the side
- one day, one if her uncles calls and asks if she's still into photography, and Y/N says yes in a heartbeat. Her uncle, a sound engineer, tells her he's going on your with a band and that it could be a great chance to make an awesome portfolio, and how the freaking hell would she ever say no to that?
- so 2 months later, she's ready to go on the road with her uncle. She'll be photographing Velvet Revolver's tour
- Y/N does not think much of it, except that is a great photography gig, until she actually runs into one person from the band
- she is walking down a hallway while a bunch of people pack stuff away, when Slash slightly bumps against her on the way
- she nearly spills her drink but manages to balance it again right on time, and Slash pauses his quick walk to check on her
- when they look into each other's eyes (or so Y/N guesses, bc his are covered by sunglasses) everything feels different
-it was too cliche to even be real. Shit slows down around them, sound gets muffled and seemingly nothing else matters but the man standing in front of her
- she brushes it off as a feeling of meeting someone she's been a fan of for a long time, and assures him she's alright, and they both get back on their path
- however, a feeling still lingers inside her, and she's trying to figure it out
- then all of a sudden, she gets a random itch on her wrist and it's like something snaps inside her
- how old is slash?
- a quick search on Google informs Y/N that he's 42... one hell of a coincidence... right?
- Y/N does her best to ignore it all for as long as she can
- Slash, on his side, has the exact same feeling, except he has no way of finding out her age without directly asking her
- he doesn't know who she is, what's her work on the tour... nothing at all...
- then a little light goes off inside his brain. He had seen her talk to Jack, one of the sound engineers, so he quickly takes off searching for the man in question
- as usual, he finds him buried in meters of wire and casually goes up to him, asking if he knows this girl
- Jack smiles and tells him it's his nephew, who came to photograph them while they perform
- he wants to ask the number on her wrist, but the question feels odd, too personal, so he stops himself and finishes the chat and leaves
- the question naggs his mind for days until Duff tells him something
- apparently Y/N had spoken to him, completely out of the blue, asking about what number Slash had in his wrist. So weird right?
- Slash agrees, but he doesn't pay attention to the rest of the convo. Instead, he leaves the backstage room they find themselves in and goes in search for Y/N
- he finds her getting a bottle of water and calls her name to get he attention
- over the last days, Y/N has spent all of her free time watching every single interview she can find of him and every show, trying to see what number there is on his wrist, since duff hadn't told her. No such luck, but she's hopeful
- Slash tells her he knows she's been asking for the number on his wrist, and if he doesn't truly care, she asks what's hers
- she reads right through him, as if by destiny, and says 42
- Slash is silent for a bit, and after a while, unconsciously shakes the multiple bracelets on his wrist and asks her if she's 25, to which Y/N says yes
- there's another moment of silence, but this time it's broken by Slash being called to get on stage by Duff and he really has to go
- they both try to go about normal while he performs but, during his solo, Slash ends up looking to the side of the stage, only to find Y/N looking at him with such an intense gaze...
- he keeps playing. And playing. And playing. The solo goes on for much longer than practiced, but it's so beautiful, so sentimental, that no one else in the band as the courage to play along and ruin the moment
- eventually, the roses of the crowd wake him up and he forces himself to carry on with the show
- afterwards, instead of celebrating with the band, Slash goes to her and they talk. About the numbers and about the feeling they get when they look at each other
- they agree to go on a date the next day, and also agree to keep it low for now. No need to draw attention to something that might be just one hell of a coincidence...
- they don't believe it is, but life has not been kind to them on the romance end, so they'd rather be safe than sorry
------
Thank you so much for this request <3
Wish for a fic!
What was coming out like for you?
For years I was closeted and i really didn’t want to do it. I go back and forth between whether or not I thought it was unnecessary or I told myself it was unnecessary so I wouldn’t have to do it. It was probably a little bit of both.
I knew for a while that at the very least my mom knew since she was the only one dropping hints. But if she did so did everybody else. After I was like truly accepting of myself, I really did buy into the narrative that i didn’t need to do it. On one hand I felt like everyone in my family already knew so there was no need to inform them, there was no need to bring it up out of nowhere unprompted, and it’s just ridiculous that that’s something anyone has to do. I’m more than my sexuality and straight people don’t have to come out.
Anyway this ended up being a really long post feel free to read all of it, but the main takeaway is that coming out was scary. Even when I knew nothing big was going to come of it, there’s just like this anxiety I had and I think it’s normal. Im lucky to live a life where I can be myself freely without having to be concerned about repercussions. I would say me coming out to my friends/just not hiding who I was from them was a great experience. My cousins were so great. My mom and my sister, I guess I wish that those had gone better which is crazy to me because they had known the longest and had so long to prepare and just didn’t have ideal reactions (far from awful but it was kinda just like uhhh ok?) and then my dads is probably my favorite bc that’s how it should be for everyone. It was ultimately very freeing for me but it was also like very uncomfortable for me.
My coming out happened in 4 phases:
1. College freshman year: i was struggling with my sexuality after I got my first crush and wasn’t sure whether or not people would accept me and eventually I told one friend that I lived with and he never treated me differently, I think I told three other friends that were girls, but overall it was extremely difficult to communicate for me. I would say that this was a time in which I was still closeted.
2. I now work on accepting myself and don’t really talk about it with people unless it comes up for the next three years. I’m now in my fourth year of college and join an org where I’m placed on a committee that’s essentially 60% gay males 40% straight males (and girls). My goal when joining was just to be open and let people get to know me. I was still middle ish of the road and sorta wanted to be perceived as straight. I think people just kind of started to assume I was gay and it was like “oh I don’t have to think about telling anyone anything or acting a certain way. I can just be myself” and I kinda just let loose and as we started hanging out and going to parties together I was able to open up and be myself judgement free and it was just so much fun and that’s when I like TRULY accepted myself and I was like life should be like this all the time. I can’t believe I haven’t been doing this. This was more of like a me coming out to myself than anything else and showing myself how enjoyable life can be when you don’t bottle yourself up.
3. Same year (after my first semester) Even though I was very open with my friends at school, this was my first time home for a ‘long break’ and I wasn’t as open with my family. Me and my two female cousins went out for a day together in the city and then ended up at a bar where they were talking about the kind of guys they were into and my one cousin mentions that she’s into older guys and I didn’t say anything and then our other cousin went to the bathroom and I was like btw I’m gay and I only wanted to preface that bc when u said u were into older guys I was like legit same I know exactly what you mean. My other cousin came back from the bathroom and then we laughed about it, but they were the sweetest and most supportive I could’ve wanted. I don’t think I’d ever felt as close with them as I did in that moment. They asked if anyone else knew and I was like well my friends but that’s it and they said they wouldn’t tell anyone and I thanked them.
A few nights later I met my sister out at a bar for her birthday in the city. I was hanging out with her friends (who I knew just not on a real personal level) because she was dancing and making out with some guy. This is actually kinda funny. It was winter and the bar was hot so I tied my jacket around my waist (as I often do bc that’s just typically part of my look, kinda like a staple of mine tbh) and her friend is like “ryán why are you wearing that around your waist, go put it in the coat check” and I was like no thanks like I really don’t mind having it on my waist, I like the way it looks and I honestly don’t wanna pay and she’s like “you have to check it, any girl who walks in here and sees a guy with a jacket around his waist will not want to get with him” and I looked at her and laughed and was like “lol ok well that’s fine because I’m into guys anyway” and she was taken aback like “OH” and I was like lol r u surprised and she was like well your sister just never told me that and I said well idk why she would, like for one I’m not sure why that would be a topic of discussion between the two of you and for two I haven’t told her anyway. She and my sisters other gay friend practically forced me to tell her the entire night and I was like um ok. And then my sister got mad at me for telling them before her and made it all about herself and I was drunk crying running to the bathroom lol and she followed it up with SO MANY questions and was like you gotta tell mom and dad we talk about it all the time. And I was like 1. No I don’t, if they wanna know they can ask me I don’t care 2. That’s kinda fucked up that you guys talk about me and my sexuality all the time behind my back?? 3. If you just said u all know why do I have to tell you. There isn’t really more to the story there, it was her telling me to and me saying no.
4. It is the 2019th summer. Id thought many times about telling my parents I wanted to go to pride and just like ended up saying nothing. Fact of the matter was that I wasn’t proud and honestly even if I wanted to go I didn’t know who I’d go with. My parents are VERY religious and when I was younger I had heard my mom express worry about a girls mother after the girl had come out as a lesbian l o l. Years go by and my mom got me a pamphlet for the lgbt center mixed in with a bunch of other papers when I moved in my freshman dorm, said a lot of encouraging things to me like telling me “you can date anyone you want” and asking me about my love life (this kind of stuff happened between stages 1 and 2). Nothing was explicitly said but I think we both silently acknowledged it. She even asked about one of my gay friends bc I think she thought we mightve been dating (between stage 3 and 4) which we were not and never have hooked up or anything. Honestly I knew they’d be supportive and I knew they weren’t going to kick me out, I just didn’t know how they’d honestly and truly take it. And by the time that I didn’t give a fuck about how anybody “took” the “news” I was aware that they knew and subscribed to all the beliefs that I listed above. If they wanted to know so desperately they could ask me. At this point I wasn’t even trying to hide it. A guy kinda fucked me over right before school was over and I was talking to her on the phone and she was asking how I was and why I sounded meh and I just told her guys suck without trying to get into it. Anyhow picture this, straight pride has just been confirmed for August 2019. Gays are distressed everywhere. Can we not have one thing??? I share a post to my insta story stating something along the lines of “straight pride isn’t necessary and you should be happy you don’t need it. LGBT people need pride because we still don’t have equal rights and people get killed every day for being a part of this community and people get kicked out of their homes for loving someone, etc.” and I guess my mom saw it and was like that was an interesting post on your instagram and I was like lol ok thanks. (She had thought I didn’t think I was safe in my own home and that’s why I wasn’t coming out) And she’s like is there something you want to tell me? And I say is there something you want me to tell you? And she says only if you want to. And I say “what mom do you want me to tell you I’m gay? Like it’s not a secret. I know you know and everybody else knows.” We went on a walk and she said some highly questionable microaggressions but meant with overall support. At this point though like I already accepted myself so I could just roll my eyes and be like lol whatever you don’t get it.
Then my dad comes back and she calls him to the kitchen and is like I think you should tell him now. And i was like gurl what? This is so out of nowhere and so ridiculous. You’re really going to do this after we just had an hourlong discussion on why I didn’t feel the need to come out. And my dad comes in and is like what’s up and I say hey just so you know I’m gay, ok? And he says ok.
series masterlist
requested: yes | no
warnings: nada.
word count: 5,562 [ wow i write too much lmao ]
authors note: ok i’m so so sorry this took so long to get out, but it’s finally here! this series was such a bad idea bc writing it is lowkey making me fall in love with tyler lmao. i’m so sorry (again) that this is so late [i think like 2 weeks? a week? idk but still] and i swear i’ll update regularly now lol. i hit some writers block writing this, so i hope it doesn’t suck too much. i hope you all enjoy and as always, i love hearing from you guys– your theories of how the series as a whole will end, your likes/dislikes, anything! tysm for taking the time out of your day to read, ily and i hope your thanksgiving table is full of your favorite foods and surrounded by your favorite people!!
You weren't sure what exactly woke you up first– the slight throbbing of your head or whatever the hell was touching your face. It couldn't have been 10 AM yet, Kennedy knew the rule you guys had when it came to the morning after a big party, so there was no way she was trying to wake you up now. You groaned and rolled over, tugging your blanket with you and forcing yourself to fall back asleep. Suddenly, a huff of air followed by something wet, pressed against your ear. "Kennedy cut it off" you mumbled, waving your hand in that general direction...only to touch something soft and furry. You opened an eye and looked over to see Cash sitting next to you wiggling his but against the blanket as if he was waiting for you to greet him. "Hi boy," you yawned, rolling over onto your back and patting your stomach. He immediately put two paws onto your chest and started to lick your face. "Okay, hi, I can't breathe,"
You laid there, trying your best to focus on your surroundings as you rubbed the top of Cash's head, which was now rested on your chest. In the first few moments, you were wondering why the hell one of Tyler's dogs was in your dorm room. When your eyes took in the fancy, less dorm-esque furniture around you, you realized that you were at Tyler's. Okay, so maybe Tyler was being a good friend and teammate and Big Rig called him for a ride. Everyone must have been so obnoxiously drunk that Tyler decided that instead of walking the three of you to the dorm, he'd just have you crash at his place.
That thought seemed extremely logical until you remembered that sometime before everything started to blur, Big Rig and Kennedy had left the party. Okay, so maybe it was just you that stayed here, which made perfect sense. The boys were set to leave this morning to fly to Winnipeg for the beginning of their road series and you always took care of the dogs, so maybe Tyler just brought you here early. Tapping Cash on the nose, he stood up and jumped off of the bed you were lying in. You took a deep breath and yawned before throwing off your blankets and sitting up. He greeted you on the other side of the bed before walking into the bathroom.
Wait...Tyler's guest room didn't have an attached bathroom.
Slowly, you looked around the room again to notice that there were little things left out, throughout the room. Receipts, clothes hamper, suits still in their dry cleaning plastic. Holy shit. "Oh no," You stood up quickly, almost making yourself dizzy as it settled into your brain– you were in Tyler's room. "No, no, no no, I didn't," you rushed into the bathroom after Cash and came to a stop in front of the mirror. You were wearing a Dallas Stars dri-fit that sported Tyler's 91 on both sleeves and when you turned slightly, you could even see his last name labeled across the back. "Please tell me that I didn't."
You closed your eyes and grabbed onto the bottom of the shirt, lifting it slightly before peeking through one of your eyes to see that you still had on your black spandex from the night before. "Oh thank God," you sighed, leaning forward and resting your hands onto the marble bathroom counter. You looked back up at your reflection to see that your face was...surprisingly clean. You must have remembered to take your make-up off the night before. You could hear beeping coming in from the bedroom and you walked back to the bed to see your phone screen lit up with messages.
Picking up your phone, you unlock it and click on Kennedy's message to see a mix of some from the last night and just now.
"HE DID WHAT?! OH, WE'RE SO SPIKING HIS CHIPOTLE BOWL THE NXT TIME WE SEE HIM."
"OH SHIT GET IT GURLLLLL"
"okay damn. 12 pm and you haven't texted me back or open any of my snaps. did the dick appointment with tyler kill you?"
"dick too bomb?"
"okay but seriously are you alive rn or should i send 911?"
Your eyes widened with every message you read. It wasn't possible, you were still dressed...granted, in Tyler's shirt and your bandeau was gone...oh no. You scrolled up to the last message you had sent her to see that it was a picture of Tyler's back as he was walking towards his closet, taken from an angle that would only be possible if you were sitting on the edge of his bed. It wouldn't be that bad if you hadn't sent a text along with it that said– "dick me down daddyyyyyy 🥰🤪🤤
You felt a chill travel down your spine as your sent Kennedy and thumbs up and a 'we'll talk later' message before locking your phone again. Okay, so maybe it was possible, that you and Tyler did have sex last night. But, and you felt extremely bad for thinking this, but...wouldn't you at least remember it? You almost considered asking him that very same question but decided that maybe a more, subtle and less offensive approach would be best. You sighed, rubbing your eyes as you walked out of the bedroom, already planning the awkward conversation you'd have with Tyler. But at least you wouldn't have to have it until he came back from his road trip.
As you walked down the stairs, the closest you got to the bottom of the steps you could hear some music coming from the kitchen. You slowed down, wary of who else could be in the house as you quietly walked through the living room and peeked around the wall to see Tyler. You ducked back behind the wall, shaking your head to yourself before checking your phone again. It was almost 12:30 and instead of being on a plane...Tyler was dancing in front of a stove, shirtless.
You peeked back around the corner as the song señorita played from the small Bluetooth speaker on the counter. He was completely oblivious to your presence, which only allowed you to admire his bareback. Pale as he may be, you couldn't help but almost drool at the definition in his back muscles as he worked whatever he was cooking on the stove. Your eyes traveled down to the band of his sweatpants and you titled your head to the side. He was right, he had some serious buns of steel.
"Okay no, get a grip Y/N. Stop being a creep," you mumble to yourself, taking a deep breath before stepping out from around the corner. You walked over to a stool at the counter and sat on it, resting your elbows on to the counter as Tyler was still oblivious to your presence. "Nice moves Seguin."
He whipped around so fast that he almost slipped on the kitchen floor. His eyes widened until he saw it was you and then he relaxed, though he was still holding up his spatula as if he was going to use it as a weapon. "Holy shit," he exhaled, pointing the spatula at you. "Warn a guy next time, eh? You're just in time by the way."
He grabbed a plate from his left and turned back around. "For what? You to hit me to death with," you gasped, bringing a hand over your heart, "a kitchen utensil?"
"Ha Ha," he said sarcastically as he turned back around and placed the plate down in front of you. "Your toast might be a bit cold considering you slept like a dead person, but the omelette is warm, so bon apétite."
You picked up the fork he placed down next to the plate and looked at the food as he went back to the stove. Not only could you get used to the view, but you could also get used to Tyler cooking meals for you. He turned off the stove and turned back, placing his plate on the counter and staying across from you. "Sorry, I don't know what you eat, so I just made what your brother normally eats. I'm assuming you have similar tastes."
"That we do," you smiled, picking up a piece of toast and nodding at him. "Thanks, this is great."
"Cool, enjoy," he just nodded and went back to focusing on his breakfast.
An awkward silence settled between the two of you, the only sounds being your forks clanking against your plates or the dogs' paws moving across the floor. He didn't bother to look back up at you since you thanked him for the breakfast and you couldn't help but wonder why he's not the least bit bothered that you woke up in his bed. You grew up with two manly, hocking playing brothers, so based on experience, you knew that the odds of him hiding his panic was probably slim. Unless that was the reason why he wasn't even bothered to start a conversation with you? What if you did have sex with him last night and him making breakfast for you was his way as trying to brush it off? Cause that's a thing, right? Hookups get breakfast the next morning? God, you felt so out of tune with hook-up culture these days since you'd been chained down in a shitty, toxic relationship for the last few years.
You cleared your throat, pushing around a cut off part of your omelette. "So um..."
He looked up at you, holding his fork in front of his mouth. "Yeah?" He brought the fork into his mouth, chewing the bite of his omelette he had cut off.
"Didwehavesexlastnight?"
His eyes went wide as he coughed, nearly choking on his food. He hit his chest a few times before turning away from you and taking a long sip of water and looking back at you, still panicked. "I'm sorry, what?"
You took a deep breath, letting the fork rest on your plate. "Did we have sex...last night?"
He downed some more water, shaking his head. "No, we didn't." Before you could get your follow up question to leave your lips, he cut you off. "I slept in the theatre."
"Oh," was all you could say as you looked down at your plate, turning as red as one of the tomatoes in a bowl on his counter. "Well uh, this is awkward."
And disappointing, but you knew you probably shouldn't say that.
He slid your glass of water closer to you, nodding down at it. "Do you even remember anything from last night?"
"I remember the party and doucheface Cole cheating on me," you crossed your arms on the counter and shrugged your shoulders. "But the last thing I remember is getting into your car and everything after is a blur."
"I kind of figured it would be, you were off in la-la land the entire car ride, and then when we got here," he pursed his lips and raised his eyebrows. "The drinks hit you like a truck."
You groaned and rested your head onto the counter, enjoying the cool marble against your forehead. "I don't even want to know what I did."
"Well, you tripped in the garage, broke your jack daniels' pants and then told me that my dogs love you more than me, which is probably true," he laughed, taking your plate away from you and walking to the sink. "And then you tried to do God knows what and run into my living room and when I threatened to carry you upstairs, you ogled my body and said 'yes please'"
You shot your head up and grabbed the paper towels off of the rack near you, raising them. "No I didn't....ogle your body."
He shrugged his shoulders, "alright, whatever you say, drunky. Anyway, we went upstairs, I grabbed you some clothes...well, a shirt and then you uh," You could see a red tint start to form on his cheeks.
"Okay, okay you can stop," you waved your hands in front of him, shaking your head. "I don't need to know any more. But I will ask one question, why aren't you on a plane to Winnipeg?"
"Game got rescheduled. The weather up there is pretty shitty, so we don't leave for Calgary until Tuesday." He put the dishes into the dishwasher before coming back onto the counter and resting his elbows down. "So, are you going to tell me what happened last night?"
"What do you mean? You just told me?"
"No, I told you what happened last night when I got to you. I have no idea what happened before you called me."
You took a deep breath and shrugged your shoulders, clasping your hands together and smiling at him. "I mean, what else is there to say besides the fact that my boyfriend...ex-boyfriend, of two years has been cheating on me for three months?"
Tyler went to reply, but you cut him off. "Not to mention, that dress I wore to your Halloween party? The one Cole spilled a drink on and then blew up on me for ruining it? Yeah, it turns out that it was her dress," You scoffed, feeling the urge to cry become stronger. "No wonder he was so worried about it. But don't worry, she said her dad's dry-cleaner was able to get the stain out."
"Y/N..."
"You know what the worst part about all of that is?" You looked at him, eyes brimmed with tears. "She's so nice that I can't even hate her. Cole's a manipulator and I think I feel more upset at the fact that she was fooled, rather than him cheating on me. Does that mean something's wrong with me? The fact that I can't bring myself to dislike the 'other woman'? I mean, aren't I supposed to hate her?"
Tyler just stared at you, his mouth opened slightly as he looked away. You couldn't help but laugh because he just looked absolutely clueless about what he was supposed to do. "No, don't worry about it," you sniffled and wiped your cheeks of the slight evidence of tears and smiled at him. "You may have two sisters, but just like Jamie and Jordie, you're a tad bit clueless on what to say in this situation."
"I mean, yeah I don't know what to say because I'm not sad that you dumped him. Am I pissed that he cheated on you? Hell yeah, because I've told you once and I'll tell you again...you deserve so much better than that." He stood up and walked out of the kitchen, coming to a stop at the stool beside you. "I'm just sorry that he hurt you like that and I hope that I never see his bench-warming ass again or–"
"You'll put him in an ER bed, yeah yeah I've heard it before." You sighed, looking up from the counter and at Tyler, giving him an appreciative smile. "Just don't let him touch your pretty face."
"You think my face is–"
"I mean that is how you get all of your endorsements."
He rolled his eyes and shoved you as he walked into the living room. "I'll have you know, I get my endorsements from my killer body, more than my face."
I believe that, you thought, only to clear your throat and step out of the stool.
"So what are your plans for the day? I can give you a ride back to campus now if you'd like."
You sighed, leaning against the back of the couch belonging to the cushion Tyler was sitting on. "Well, I was planning on slaving away in the library all day, just to go over notes and stuff, but now...." You chewed the inside of your cheek slightly, avoiding Tyler's gaze. "Now I just kind of want to lower the risk of ever running into them on campus, but I also know that I can't just hide away in my dorm room forever."
Moments of silence passed between the two of you before Tyler stood up and walked out of the living room. When he came back, he had a shirt tossed over a shoulder, he changed into gym shorts and was smiling. "Grab the dogs for me?"
"What?" He walked out of the room again as he put on his shirt. "Why?"
"Because...just because."
You walked towards the front door where the dogs' leashes were kept. "Can you at least clue me in?"
He came around the corner from the kitchen with all three dogs following behind him and a big smile on his face. "We're going for a run."
"A RUN?!" The question came out a lot louder than you intended it to, followed by a confused look. "I can't go for a run."
"Exercising helps a hangover, Y/N. Trust me, you'll be fine."
"No, it's not that. It's just I..." you crossed your arms and sighed. "I don't have a sports bra and I doubt my bandeau would do any good if I could even find it."
Tyler instinctively looked at the shirt before clearing his throat and looking away. "Oh yeah, about that," he disappeared down the hall again, coming back with your bandeau in hand. "You kind of threw it on the floor last night before uh–" he coughed, nodding his head. "Never mind. But, I washed it with a laundry load this morning, so it's clean." He handed it to you and once again, you felt embarrassed. "So, no run, maybe just a walk instead?"
You nodded, holding onto the bandeau tightly. "Yeah, a walk sounds great. Just let me put this on and we can go."
He nodded and grabbed all three leashes from you before turning towards the dogs. You walked into the bathroom downstairs and shut the door behind you. Looking down at your former missing bandeau and remembering about what Tyler said, you couldn't help but think.
Why the hell did you throw your bandeau onto the ground and what was he going to say before changing the subject?
❒❒❒❒
Tyler was right, exercising did help you feel better. Sure, it wasn't the exercise he originally planned– but both the nice, strangely cool air, and being with Tyler and the dogs...helped a lot. You walked around the neighborhood a few times, even stopping at the small dog park and letting the dogs run around for a while. It was here while taking a quick break, Tyler suggested that you could hang out with him and the dogs for a little while longer, just to make sure that yours odds of running into either Cole or Paisley were extremely slim. You definitely weren't opposed to the idea and had to make sure that you gave a convincing performance of you contemplating whether or not it was a good idea. Though in reality, you wanted to say yes the moment the idea was spoken into existence.
When you guys got back to his house, the cool air had disappeared and Tyler suggested that you guys go hang out by the pool. You reluctantly, and after plenty of reassurance that it was washed, wore a bathing suit from Tyler's 'Lost and Found' and swam with the dogs while Tyler made you guys his 'special drink.' It took all of the power in you to refrain from laughing when he brought out a pack of white claws– though you did call him a basic white girl, to which he didn't even bother to argue. Any sense of awkwardness that once existed from earlier in the day, was completely gone by the time Tyler cannonballed into the pool. Whenever you guys were in the water, you were either playing keep-away with the dogs' toys or busy splashing or dunking the other under the water. You were the first one to initiate getting out of the pool and moving over to his jacuzzi, but it only took a few seconds for Tyler to follow you over– after he put the dogs away in the wet room so they weren't running wild before they could be hosed down.
The two of you sat in there and talked for what felt like hours, about anything and everything. He seemed really interested in your schoolwork, asking you about the courses you'd taken the last four years, what got you into the career choice. The conversation went from school to Toronto, your shared dream travel destinations, your childhoods, and as cheesy as it sounds, your fears and dreams. It was all so...personal, like two friends just passing the time, and you loved it. You weren't sure how long the two of you had been out there talking, but when you did notice that time had passed, the sun was starting to set and you were starving. Tyler ordered pizza for dinner and helped you hose off the dogs. He struggled to get Cash to cooperate until you distracted him by scratching his ears. At that point, Tyler probably sprayed you more with the hose than Cash, but you got your revenge when it came time to hose down Gerry. The young dog wanted to do anything BUT get hosed down, which resulted in Tyler having to chase him down, carry him out of the pool and hold him still, which is how you got your revenge.
After the dogs were hosed off, Tyler put them away into their designated room until they dried off. He offered for you to take the first shower, and before you could protest, saying that you had no clothes, Tyler replied 'I've got it covered.' You finished up your shower to see that he had laid out some sweatpants and another Stars 'Seguin' t-shirt out on his bed with a note that said 'don't worry, the sweats aren't from the L&F– they're Cassidy's.'
Any worry you had about you taking too long to shower was swept away during the time that you waited downstairs for Tyler to get done. In the time that he was upstairs, the pizza was delivered, the dogs were dried and fed, and you had gone through his DVR list and found a pleasant surprise– he had at least five Hallmark Christmas movies recorded. When he came downstairs, he was a little scared of the knowing smile on your face and when you asked why he had Hallmark Christmas movies recorded, he blushed and rubbed the back of his neck saying that he was thinking about giving them a try...since you gave them such a glowing recommendation. You guys hung out on the couch, sharing a blanket and just eating your pizza and watching Hallmark Christmas movies, most of which you've already seen.
After you finished the second movie, it was almost 9:30 and you definitely needed to get back home to your dorm. You told Tyler you could just order an uber back, not wanting to bother him anymore– but he insisted that he take you back to the dorm– and that offer sent the butterflies throughout your body. You never wanted the car ride to end, but with Tyler living as close as he did, you knew that eventually, it had to. This entire day was just, perfect. It was everything that you needed for what felt like a long time, and you couldn't help but be amazed that it happened with Tyler.
"I already told you, you really don't have to walk me to my dorm," you sighed, crossing your arms as you held onto your lanyard.
Tyler tugged on his hood, making sure it wouldn't fall off. "And I'm telling you, again, to suck it up because I'm doing it."
You laughed and rolled your eyes as you walked down the hallway and to your door. "You need to work on your arguments, they suck."
He just gave you a sarcastic smile as you opened the door and walked inside. "SHUT THE DOOR!"
Your eyes went wide as you saw Big Rig almost fall off of the bed while trying to grab the blanket. "OH MY GOD."
"Sorry, dude!" Tyler said, grabbing your elbow and pulling you back into the hallway, closing the door behind you. "So...that just happened."
"Oh my God," you said, bringing your hands to your temples. "Were they just?"
"Going at it? In the middle of coitus? Participating in sexual relations? Having sexua–"
You covered his mouth, giving him a glare. "You can stop now, I know what they were doing."
His laughter vibrated your hand and you pulled it away as he nodded at the door. "I guess we should give them some time to clean up?"
You knocked on the door, standing close to it. "Text me when the two of you are decent, please." Turning back to Tyler you smiled, "Walk you to your car?"
"I'd be honored."
As you made the walk out of the building and to the parking lot, you took notice of how the silence between you was comfortable and nothing like the awkward silence from this morning. Tyler had his hands buried in his sweatshirt pockets, whistling to señorita and walking at your pace.
"This seems a little opposite of how it was supposed to go, doesn't it?" He laughed, looking at you.
"Well, consider me your bodyguard so you don't get ambushed by fans, yeah?"
  He took the time to check you out, his stare making your stomach feel all warm inside. "Nah, you're too scrawny to protect me," he reached out and grabbed your bicep. "Your arms have no muscle."
"Uh, rude!" You scoffed, slapping his hand away as he laughed. "I'm sorry not all of us can freely eat a million carbs and still look like you."
"I'll take that as you appreciate my good physique." He laughed, letting the silence settle back in as you reached his car.
You could hear his keys rattling in his sweatshirt pocket as the two of you stood by the drivers' door. You brought your hands into the long sleeve shirt before crossing your arms and rocking back on your heels. "Thanks for last night, you really didn't have to do that."
"Will you stop apologizing, Y/N?" He said, shaking his head. "I'd help you no matter what the situation."
"Cause I'm Jamie's sister?"
The question came out before you could even speak and the tone hid a bit of harshness in it. You didn't know what you meant by the question. Whether you wanted it to be a neutral one or one where for a split second, you despised the fact that he was your brother's best friend, and that that small fact could be in the way of any potential relationship between the two of you.
Tyler shook his head. "No. Because you're important to me."
The fact that his answer, at least to you, seemed to be leaning in the exact direction that you wanted it to, made you happy. You sighed, leaning against his car. "Thank you for today, too, Tyler. I needed that, like...really needed it."
"I had a lot of fun and the dogs love you," he smiled kicking his shoe out towards you and nudging against your leg. "You'll have to go for walks with us more often, I swear they behave better when you're around."
"I can do that. So you really had fun today? Even with the Christmas movies?"
His smile overtook his face as he looked down, rolling his head back before looking at you again. "I guess they're not that bad."
"Oh come on, you loved ‘Christmas Under Wraps!’"
"I still stand by what I said. It was very obvious from the beginning that Garland was the North Pole and that his dad was Santa!"
You laughed and rolled your eyes as your phone vibrated in your pocket. You took it out to see a text from Kennedy saying that she and Big Rig were dressed. You sighed, putting the phone away and looking back at Tyler. "Kennedy says they're decent now, thank God. I don't think I'll ever be able to get that image of his bare ass out of my head."
Tyler just laughed before standing up. "I'll walk you back to your dorm and–"
You reached out and touched his chest, stopping him from walking any further. "Nope, you've got to get home to our puppers and give them the attention that they apparently so desperately need."
He looked at you with a look that you've only seen whenever he was flirting with someone in a bar– it was his flirty look, followed by his famous smirk. "Our puppers?"
"I take care of them when you're gone, so yes. Our puppers, now go!" You pushed him back slightly as he unlocked his car and opened the door. You turned around and walked up onto the curb, starting to walk back to your dorm.
"Y/N, wait!"
You stopped and turned around to see that he was jogging the short distance to you. He looked nervous and you just reached out with your foot and nudged his leg. "Feel free to speak before the sun rises, Seguin."
He took a deep breath as he chewed on the inside of his cheek as if he was going back and forth with himself in his thoughts. Instinctively, you reached out and touched his arm, scared that something might be wrong. "Tyler, what's wrong?"
He looked down at your hand and when you started to let it fall, he held onto it, intertwining his fingers with yours. "I mean it," he said, letting out a hard breath. "when I said that you're important to me...I meant it."
His face gave off the impression that there was more that he needed to say, but wasn't sure on how to say it– but you couldn't hear anything even if he was able to say it. Your heart was beating against your chest so hard that you're sure Tyler could hear it. When he said it the first time, you weren't all that sure of what he meant– you only hoped that it meant what you thought it could. But this time, the way he said it...you knew, and that was enough to send your nerves into a spiral. Before your mind could even begin to come up with a response, Tyler leaned in and pressed his lips softly against yours.
In what felt like minutes, but was really only a few milliseconds– you took in the way of how soft his lips felt. Forcing yourself to memorize how his beard scratched your own skin and the smell of his cologne. In case this was all a fluke and it never happened again, you needed to be able to save those tiny details in the back of your mind. When his hands came up to cup your face, that's when it settled in– this was real.
Tyler was kissing you, this wasn't a dream.
You grabbed onto his sweatshirt, closing the distance between your bodies and trying to pull him closer than was physically possible. You've wanted this for what felt like, and could possibly be, years. And now it was happening and you never wanted it to end. The moment you made the move to take the kiss from PG to at least some good PG-13 action, Tyler pulled away.
You didn't want to open your eyes, scared that if you did, Tyler would probably be looking at you with some sort of regrettable expression– and seeing that would probably break you. Because even though he made the first move, you were unsure of whether or not it was something he wanted to do. You opened your eyes anyway to see Tyler standing there with wide eyes, but a small smile– as if he was surprised himself that he had kissed you. He reached down and held onto your hand again, squeezing it. "I had a lot of fun."
Just as soon as he had squeezed your hand, he let it go, turned back and jogged to his car. He wasted no time getting inside and turning it on and before you could even wave goodbye, he was already making his way out of the parking lot.
You stood there for a few seconds, watching him disappear from view and still in shock from what just happened. He had actually made a move. Weeks of back and forth and he had finally done what Kennedy and Big Rig said he probably wanted to do. It wasn't an extravagant kiss in any way. It was a simple, yet perfect kiss that set your body on fire.
You laughed to yourself, running your tongue along your teeth before shaking your head and walking back to your dorm.  There were a lot of things that you knew about Tyler. Some you'd learned years ago, some you learned through the press, and some that you had just learned today. Of all of the things that you knew, your favorite had to have been the one you found out just moments ago.
That with a kiss so frustratingly innocent and perfect, one that still left a lingering feeling of his lips against your own– he managed to set fire to your entire body...and left you wanting so much more.
HIHI !
I go by Fany & she/her -- it’s been a looong time since I rped so honestly pretty excited to be here and get this muse on the road :> no lie it’ll probably take me a bit to adjust and get in the groove of things so forgive my extra slowness but I’d love to plot n chat with all of you peeps like actually please lets !! do have a profile page up you’re free to check ( still being worked on shh ), and a rules page that’s really just more an info dump about rping with this mun & muse and some stuff about me in general if you’re curious ye
don’t have any plots up for grabs sadly, yet, but brainstorming is much welcome
here’s some tidbits about muse that might be helpful in the meanwhile tho ;
to start off, where she actually comes from;
From where her lineage diverged the Gwan bloodline has notoriously been known as very powerful divination magick practitioners within the Kyegeum house
alongside being super cordial with other houses and often the other genera as well, but generally aloof in matters that did not strictly concern them. this extended to the normal world and society as well
this was especially true for her grandpa, Gwan Youngchul
who ended up being turned in a surprise attack from a werewolf when the man had been out with his familiar companion -- Seok -- who despite best efforts could not save the witch from this sudden fate, could not stop their treasured bond severing
and despite managing to keep Youngchul alive through the whole ordeal, it would not take long ( if anything, suspiciously quick ) for a certain group of hunters to get whiff of the circumstance and swiftly rid off the ex-witch
Perhaps one bright side to look at was that he was able to communicate last wishes, some of which had already been written on letters hidden for the chance of an unlucky situation such as the one they were currently in arising. one of the wishes being a plea to protect his only daughter Jiyeong
At a tender age of seventeen Jiyeong took the news with surprising grace, not to say she wasn’t devastated and cried but what seemed to be request of her father to bond with his familiar was accepted after a moment of thinking it over, and bonding ritual decided to take place within the week
Jiyeong’s mother had been the one to mainly oversee her training once abilities started manifesting, a Kyegeum witch herself, with very different abilities compared to her husband
It was perhaps no surprise then that Jiyeong became very adamant not long after father’s death to focus studies and abilities on what her father had been so revered for; divination
something his older sister, Jiyeong’s aunt, was known for as well and gladly helped the girl with alongside taking the widowed family under her wing and protection
Jiyong followed after her father’s footsteps in many other things, most notably making friends and upholding favorable relations to the other houses, other genera as well
was endlessly fond of nature magic too, had an abundance of flowers and plants in every nook and cranny, a beautiful garden she tended to with care
many would even say she was touched by the sun itself, vibrant and warm soul she was, nurturing not with only plants but people themselves
eventually met a man who slowly swept Jiyeong off her feet, and not but a few years later they had a child, naming her Sooah. my muse. we’ll get to her in a bit I promise ._.
the man aka Dad is a human, just plain ole’ human. orphaned at a young age so while they wouldn’t know for certain if he has any sliver of witchy magic in him it’s unlikely
insists he fell in love with Jiyong at first sight pretty much. which is frankly understandable she was such a lovely person ;u;
was surprisingly chill about all the, well, witch stuff and whatnot, very curious too but also did want her to be careful and if possible not be that involved with that world
for about next 10 years things went on fairly normally, ya know, living the happy family life, going to work, mingling with the magical side of society
then she started getting sick every so often, out of the blue, however nothing even remotely seeming serious. though it was odd for a witch to be affected with flu so often
she didn’t think it was serious itself, and had a habit of hiding it in the beginning too when it wasn’t even noticeable
until it got to the point it simply could not be ignored, could not be just a passing small thing, could not be cured by any means she knew
and the next thing anyone else knew she was gone. almost like someone had reached and snuffed out her flame, just like that
where in the story we get to Sooah, so;
her early life wasn’t that special in honesty, if you don’t count all the stories her mother told about the secret magical world she too would be part of one day, and the lineage she was to inherit, abilities she would discover, all to be learned together
she had been a deviously curious child, daydreaming every other moment and next begging to see if even take part in what her mother was doing with her own magick
Sooah was quite interested in the guy sometimes accompanying her too, a friendly face she’d grown to know as Seok who she had learned eventually was mom’s bonded familiar, a fact she was entirely too excited about. but who also was before bonded to her grandpa that the girl never got to meet herself
would not fail to mention to him many times how she was going to one day find a familiar to bond with too, someone who was fun and kind and wanted to go on adventures and they would be the bestests of friends ever. and definitely cooler than him
she was always eager to understand and practice the power inside her in general, which she was starting to more and more by the days, before the sudden passing of her mother
it broke her :<
dad too, for a while he was nothing but basically a walking shell. she’s sure neither of them really truly recovered
backtracking just a lil because one very, very important notion was the familiar was of course bound to die soon along with the mom, Sooah was well aware of the fact by then and while she was stricken by grief at the time she was dedicated to finding him, no real plan in mind but urgent to know he was okay, like it would somehow make the situation any better
she did end up meeting him, understandably shaken himself but apparently already accepted own fate-- which at the moment did not sit well with her at all and Sooah, not even yet 14 years old, decided she was not going to let him just wither away and die alone how horrible would that be, how sad for that to be the end when her mom had exuded everything opposite, she was not going to let that happen no matter what
which meant the only thing she could actually do was to bond with Seok and by sheer force of will and maybe some tears - definitely some tears - did manage to convince for him to agree to it
a whole mess
she doesn’t regret it one bit, absolutely refuses to, yet does occasionally wonder if it was the right thing to do or even fair to him
but ultimately she’s glad he is in her life, aiding in any matter she may require, definitely now seen as a big brother she never had-- if she’s not too busy calling him grandpa bc seriously he’s old as all fuck. it still surprises her from time to time
( okay but it is hilarious to think Seok going from being as old as he was, looking about 40 to then having a 14 year old’s body lmaoo )
bless the grandma tho she was really a rock in this emotional time, even though she was dealing with the loss of her daughter, after having lost her husband so early in their lives too !
she kinda took over seeing to Sooah’s teaching and helping in any other way as well, more than welcoming to having her stay over for however long she needed or wanted to
she’s still thankfully alive and has a good relationship with both Sooah and Seok ;u;
Dad on the other hand.
they have both moved out of the house the family used to occupy with mom, into their own places
also have a somewhat strained relationship nowadays, more to do with his insistence on getting her to quit all the witch stuff cause it’s dangerous yadda yadda and she’s obviously not going to do that
not to say she’s not paranoid herself, and knowing how both her mom and grandpa died barely halfway into their lives even more so
it’s not only made her fearful of same fate but made her swear to stay away from any sort of divination magic if she can help it, somehow convinced that to be a factor in all of it
does have randomly prophetic dreams though, but nothing that has been major or necessarily that important so she’s.. okay with that. kinda. does keep a dream journal just in case
It’s coming up 10 years after the mom’s death, so I’m sure there’s been some rumors or other witches wondering if the Gwan family was just cursed or something, probably mostly from older and the more traditional types. doesn’t help Soaah’s dad being a plain human. or that she’s not sure if that might just actually be the case oof
as thus she’s definitely a lot more withdrawn when it comes to the other houses, or even Kyegeum themselves, doesn’t exactly feel like part of the community if you will
but is friendly to everyone and usually can be outwardly seen as having nothing weird or unusual going on beyond what you’d expect of a typical witch in this day and age
designs and sometimes makes jewelry for The Gem Lab actually, or if an individual knows to ask her personally Sooah does take custom work too ! and yes they all have very carefully picked gems or crystals, often imbued with enchantments of basic protection or if one wants something very specific she can probably do it
is kinda rich?? like grandpa was very up in there and left part of his inheritance to the mom, who of course left part of hers to Sooah. who doesn’t really like using that money as it is so it’s just sitting in a whole separate account. probably partly also because she’s not exactly the best when it comes to handling finances so. yeah.
uhh
this is so long already god I’m not gonna get into her personality or any of that now, yall can figure it out along the way or read up what I have on her page -- which isn’t much yet but it is something !! I’m def figuring her out myself too as I go haha
so ay if you wanna plot drop by my ims please ;; I do have a discord if you feel that’s easier too just ask for it !
also go show some love to Seok  ouo
