The best comic book relationship trope by far is: ridiculously over-powered literal goddess and her boyfriend, just some guy who’s embarrassingly in love with her

Dating life of an immortal teen
Jazz developed a liminal gift around the time of dannys accident due to exposure.
She starts to suspect since she hasn't grown as much since she was 17, it was so subtle barely anybody noticed: jazz has the gift of longevity and is not ageing as fast.
Unfortunately her parents were among the small number that started to notice and she had to leave 'for college' before they tried any 'experiments' on her (they were always far too quick in suspecting jazz of being a ghost).
So started the continually cycling aliases of Jazz [no last name given] as she tried to live her life travelling around the country.
Occasionally she would meet someone and be happily in their life for a while, before having to move again (either forced or scheduled)
Her secret finally comes out when one of her early ex's recognises her in a photo with their younger co-worker... who then realises another co-worker is also an ex... until most of the group realise they've dated her at one point in their lives... then it gets noticed by their sister organisation who also recognise her.
Now anywhere else this could be humorous except these are no ordinary coworkers...
They're hero's.
Jazz has accidentally been 'Dating' her way through a large chunk of the the justice leagues civilian identities all across america and the world! (Not to mention JL: Dark) she has no idea they were hero's only that they were charming and she was lonely.
now the paranoid members (eg. Batman, the Question, Constantine, wonder woman) are worried she was preying on them and need to investigate.

Do you believe in fairies?
No one could deny that all the Robins had a unique and lively spirit, they began their career with stars in their eyes and feet in the air. Or at least most of them, Damian was still a work in progress.
Due to how the League of Assassins had raised him, it was a bit difficult to communicate with him. And most of the experiences or dreams that kids his age had were just not available. Dick had done everything to show him the "magic" but nothing was working. Not even his weekly Disney movie marathon.
That's why Dick decided to be a little more...literal about it. He asked Constantine and Zatanna for help in contacting a fairy (Zatanna looked at him as if he was crazy), this was because the last movie Damian had shown interest in was "Peter Pan". Or at least it was until Tinkerbell showed up and Damian declared that "he didn't believe in fairies."
Unfortunately for Constantine, he owed the former Robin a favor, so he tried to summon a Fairy. Of course, since the universe is engaged in making his life miserable, something went wrong. And instead of a Fairy, a ghost was looking around in confusion.
Danny didn't know where he got to, or why the boy in front of him asked him if he was "a fairy", but he decided to play along and quickly form crystal wings out of his ice. The halfa was quite amused by the situation, while Constantine looked doubtfully at the supposed "fairy" who didn't look like a fairy at all.
Danny smiled happily as he sat in the circle, he could leave at any time (and he hated being summoned) but the situation seemed extremely interesting.

I know I poke fun at the john constantine pink triangle incident but jokes aside i'm genuinely curious what other people think about it. imo it's a great blaring example of how incapable dc is at writing john's bisexuality into a story that doesn't surround corporate pride or getting together with a man.
I tried talking about it once on tiktok (idk what i was thinking either) and a few people defended it saying things like "how else would you explain a blond hair blue eyed man being sent to a ww2 ghetto?"
didn't the joker send him there? was that not reason enough? 'the joker' was kidnapping girls and ordering soldiers around, we can't suspend our belief that she had the power to send a british soldier caught undercover as a nazi away? the pink triangle and 'bunny that doesn't breed' comment was necessary to the plot?

“Superman adopts Billy Batson!” “Batman adopts Billy Batson!” Okay yeah but have you considered if John Constantine somehow was roped into adopting Billy Batson.

“DC characters are too overpowered! It makes them boring” No. DC characters being too overpowered is what makes them NOT boring. It gives writers and fans space to play with the reasons why the character doesn’t use all of their powers. It gives them a whole setup for development and their morality and can be an arc for itself with every overpowered character if someone ever wanted to do it. It makes them interesting and unique because everyone’s reasons are different but they do have reasons more than just “I physically cannot do that”. Like Spider-Man, marvel fans love that Spider-Man is strong enough to crush Hulk skull, they also love that he doesn’t because he wants to be responsible with his powers and to him, killing is not being responsible. It gives them depth.
And plus when it’s the type of comic/series/movie where them being overpowered doesn’t work out, they just don’t overpower them. Like look at JLU or Dark Apokolips or Death of Superman, all of those are instances in which the characters were severely underpowered to fit the narrative. No one cared. Everyone understands that sometimes being overpowered makes it hard to write a story or take a story to the place it needs to be taken. Sometimes a character’s full strength is the sacrifice and everyone’s fine with that.

💭 + love
he has a tendency to fall in love with passionate creative types: artists, sculptors, writers, dancers. if he was going to dig too deep into it, he'd say he's attracted to people who truly build things, rather than destroying, cannibalizing, and warping ones that already exist like he does. but artistic creation also reminds him that there's meaning in pouring your heart out for something that may never be noticed in the long run: that ideal of sacrifice as something producing beauty. he loves people who shape the world into their own image without it costing anyone else, and people who can turn all the misfiring signals in their brain into something meaningful.
he also has a habit of picking up hobbies / hobby-specific information from said creative type partners, because he's someone who likes to hold a conversation about a partner's interests, and you never know when something like fine detail sketching or metal-etching might come in handy for some delicate bit of spell-work or other. that "magpie of magic" title applies a lot of different ways. he got some basic knowledge of color theory & painting techniques from emma, sketching with pencil & charcoal from kit, and miniature crafts & shorthand note-taking from dani. he's not a master at any of them, but brushing up every now and again is a nice way of remembering the people he loved once he loses them.

okay so this is just a rant ( long. i am sorry if it is jumbled ) on justice leagu dark but specifically the new 52 run. because i don't have an issue with the rebirth run. but seeing as milligan started off the new 52 run, can anyone be surprised i don't like it.
never really understood how in justice league dark and whenever john is on a team in general. when people know he's a bit selfish when things look like they are not going to work in his favor/look hopeless in general and he gets the fuck out of there or does something to benefit himself. and everyone knows he consistently does this. yet they are like "what the fuck john. we trusted you." after giving him shit because they didn't trust him or didn't want him on the team. like guys.
for example, zatanna. she knows firsthand he's a dipshit from her last experiences and prior to new 52, she's kinda kept away from him. and honestly? you go, girl. get that toxicity out of your life if you find him to be toxic to you. but i don't like the way she's written in the initial jld because it's always "where's john" ( and, vice versa to shove the john/zatanna concept in our faces, john being all up zatanna's ass, which i personally feel does not do their characters justice. if you want to ship them, let them be them. show me why they work. not shove the "they're in love with one another" in my face and give me... dried out, squeezed sponges of their characters with absolutely zero substance. though maybe i just didn't like the writers for new 52 jld ( though the newer run is more enjoyable! zatanna feels more like herself ) because i don't think they wrote anyone well. sorry for the random tangent here ). zatanna is supposed to be intelligent. people look to her. so why would she consistently place her trust in a man she knows is going to hurt her and the team? then get angry with him for acting human even though he keeps saying he's not a hero and he will do anything to save his skin then people keep REPEATING IT AND THEN EVERYONE JUST GETS MAD AT HIM WHEN HE DOES EXACTLY THAT.
no, this is not just about zatanna. this can extend to deadman and everyone else as well, and the others, but i had the image in my mind if her quite literally yanking him from the bathtub and throwing him out of the bathroom and into a wall when she eventually took the house of mystery again because john left them all.... as he typically does.
overall, i think the initial justice league dark run was written terribly. like. astronomically bad. i don't even know why john led that team. i don't know why john was involved. i don't know why it had anything to do with argus. the newer run? with upside down man and stuff? okay, that i'm alright with. but i can quite honestly say that the writing in justice league dark new 52 was absolutely terrible AND OF COURSE IT WAS BECAUSE MILLIGAN WAS FIRST. i think it set the tone for the series and honestly it may be my own personal biases against him that clouds my judgement, but i hated the initial run. i think everything happened too fast, then shit started making absolutely no sense, and honestly, the most interesting thing that happened was whatever was going on with nightmare nurse.
okay, so. necro. unneeded. what was the point of nick necro. genuinely. to get john and zee together when they already have history but instead of allowing them to keep that history, it gets shit on for the sake of john seeing zee on stage and being like "wowza" and then having some weird competition with necro initially, just to lead to necro being? what, upset? at one point? i am so confused. like john and zee are kissing and zee apologizes to necro, and then he's like "eugh. i knew about you two. blah blah blah" like? he's not important to me. i don't care about him. why couldn't john and zee have just been together this guy literally solves very little plot purpose. even when he shows up later on. like dude. who ARE you.
anyways. anyways! that's my rant. just on random things. LIKE I DON'T KNOW WHY PETER MILLIGAN WAS ALLOWED TO PUT HIS GRUBBY FUCKING HANDS NEAR JOHN AGAIN BUT WHATEVER.
is any of this even canon anymore? i hope not.

First Look @ Zatanna’s Webtoon
Zatanna & The Ripper:
Synopsis:
“ Giovanni Zatara is one of the world's most talented magicians. His daughter Zatanna, on the other hand, is among the world's most powerful. On her 21st birthday, Zatanna witnesses a fight between her father and the sorceress Allura. Before Allura can get to his daughter, however, Giovanni blasts Zatanna far away-to London, England...in the 1800s. Zatanna tries to use her burgeoning magic to return home, but fails. What she can do, however, is pull things out of the future (and past). So her small, 19th century room is now filled with modern gadgets. It seems she'll be stuck forever until an old friend finds her—John Constantine. Recognizing him from her past—or her future, he tells her he knows how to get her home. on my knees crying begging comic writers to not age down characters who's motivations are directly inspired by the time period they grew up in. i think coming up with a canon friendly reason why they're still alive/active is far less jarring than interchanging historical circumstances or pushing their birth date decades in advance
